Throw Book Parties For Kids

Book parties are a really new and an innovative idea to bring people closer to the books so that they can read and share their thoughts and views. Book parties can be organized by universities, schools, book stores, as well as by parents at home. The habit of reading is really wonderful and it opens up the doors of intelligence in a child’s world. It is from where the child starts to learn and understand different things and understand them in its true sense. Parents stress their children to read books but that can all be transformed into fun through book parties.

The best way that parents can inculcate the habit of reading in their children is to throw book parties. Parents know what kind of books their child likes to read. First of all you need to ask your child to come and sit with you and share with them the idea of book party that you have come up with. Next, you need to ask your child as to the friends that they need to invite to the party. Remember that this party is focused on developing a reading habit in your child. Then you need to make invitations with the help of your children so that they are a part of the entire event right from the very beginning till the end.

Set a date for the party, decorate the room and plan educational games that the kids can participate in and win prizes. For example, you can give them a spelling test or a word puzzle and who answers it the fastest will get the prize. You can ask them to read story books to each other and at the end you can serve food to all. You can also add more games to the party. The book parties will not only develop a habit of reading in your child but will also help him socialize with other children.

How Do I Develop Self Love? 3 Essential Starters

Q. How do I develop self-love? Sometimes I really hate myself and can’t see any way to change my feelings. (Rose)

A. A very good question Rose. Not so glib to answer because it is difficult to do. It means you have to try to overturn years of negativity and being undervalued by parents or lovers. However, it starts with 3 things:

* Gratitude for all your blessings in life

* Self-appreciation and living in the present, and

* Self-forgiveness.

A lack of self-love comes from a feeling of being unappreciated and unwanted, usually from our childhood which is then reinforced in adulthood. It also tends to keep us in the past reliving those unloved moments. I have learnt that when we keep ourself in the past it is because we don’t like our present too much. We probably feel isolated, excluded, unloved and unappreciated, so we secretly blame ourself and live unhappy lives. We use our depression to maintain attention, but of a sort which, sadly, alienates us from others and have counter-productive effects. In short, our current unhappiness helps us to hark back to the past to remind ourself of how terrible we are.

We tend to keep the negatives stuck in our head, perhaps for sympathy, instead of facing them, acknowledging them, forgiving OURSELF and others and moving on. I could not forgive until I found love: self-love. To find true love from someone else, you have to love yourself first. No one can love you for you.

To begin the process of self-love, we have to ask ourself these questions: When did I last give deliberate thanks for waking up and seeing another day? When did I give thanks for the people in my life? For the things I have been blessed with? For the talents I have? For the faculties that still work? For my beauty, life and experiences? Do I just take everything and people around me for granted? When did I affirm and reinforce someone?

I cannot answer those questions for you, Rose, only you can. But people who live in the past tend to take their present for granted and are often mean with appreciation for their blessings, while many others have not been so privileged to even have a life. We have no present or future if we live in the past because we are so busy looking back there, we have no time to make a future or to appreciate what we really have.

The Power of Personal Habits

Someone once said, “If you want to know what your future will be like, look at your habits now”.

Whatever habits you have today will dictate your tomorrow. So, if you have negative habits that keep you stuck in the past, you will only keep getting what you’ve always got. Your future will be no different from today. Your habits, the way you do things now, will guarantee that.

So, we have to stop beating ourself up over past actions, stop aiming for perfection and stop comparing ourself to others, otherwise we will always feel inadequate. We also have to appreciate our limitations, praise ourself DAILY for being a wonderful and unique human being. Stop seeking the approval of others when the only standard should be your own, and look outwards to others in love and appreciation than just focusing on yourself.

I have found all these to be most helpful in developing self love but, most of all, accepting myself as I am and giving thanks for every new day of my life, instead of taking it for granted, have been the biggest factors in nurturing my self love and moving from feeling awful to feeling fantastic. Do remember that no one can love what you reject, Rose, and if you really want to be appreciated, regardless of the opinion of others, you have to begin by loving yourself and being satisfied with who you are.

Baseball Is My Game

Baseball is the leading sport played in the United States. Let us explore a brief history of baseball. As per the records it was found that the first ever game of baseball was played in 1792 in Pittsfield, Massachusetts. There was another reference that mentioned that baseball was being played in the peripheries of New York City what was known as Greenwich Village in the year 1823. Another reference showed that Knickerbockers were the first team to play the first game of baseball. The first baseball club was formed in September 23, 1845.

Baseball is played between two teams and each team has nine players. This game is played with a bat and ball. The ball is thrown by the pitcher to the batter. The batter hits the ball and then runs towards the base. The batter runs to the first base and runs in an anticlockwise direction. These bases are arranged at the corners of a square that is ninety square feet. The game has nine innings in all and in each inning both the teams have the chance to bat and score and half inning of the team ends when three batters are out.

In the US the professional Major League Baseball teams are branched out into National League and American League. There are also a lot of youth programs where they have smaller fields so that it is easier for the kids to pitch and have softer rules than that of the professional players. These teams of young players are known as minor league teams. The kids are really inspired by the professional players and take them as their mentor. To mention some of the Major League Baseball teams, which are Yankees, Giants, Dodgers, and Diamondbacks.

10 Steps To Effective Networking

Most attorneys say that their business comes through word of mouth or referrals. How do we keep those referrals coming? How do we establish and maintain relationships with referral sources and potential clients? Through effective networking.

Here are 10 steps to ensure that your networking efforts are productive:

1. Have a purpose

Set clear objectives when you attend a networking event. Is there someone in particular that you want to be sure to meet or speak with? Do you want to get known within a certain circle? Are you simply trying to determine whether a particular group is worth joining? Are you seeking information about a particular person or group? Are you trying to identify potential prospects or strategic alliances? Do you want to make 2 good connections? Having a clear objective will help you determine whether the event was worthwhile.

2. Focus on quality, not quantity

Networking isn’t a race to collect the most business cards. It’s about making connections. Remember: people do business with people they know, like and trust. Focus on meeting one or two people and establishing an initial connection, rather than just collecting business cards. Make sure to learn something concrete about each person you meet. The more you know about your contacts, the more effectively you can market to them.

3. Get involved with something you’re passionate about

Networking isn’t just cocktail parties and networking breakfasts. It’s making lasting connections with other people that are mutually beneficial. You are more likely to participate if you’re passionate about a cause or activity, and you’ll create deeper bonds with others in the group. Sharing experiences creates a more meaningful connection – and makes it more likely that you’ll get business or referrals.

4. Listen

People love to talk about themselves. What people really want to know when they meet you is what you can do for them or how you can benefit them. If your goal is to meet new people and make a positive and lasting connection, make sure that you’re listening much more than you are speaking. Make it about what you can do for them. Listening allows you to find out about others’ needs and address what you can do for them and how you can benefit them – whether directly through the services that you provide, or by putting them in touch with others that can help them if you can’t. As Bob Burg, author of Endless Referrals suggests, ask questions about others’ needs, business, problems, challenges, and desires. Some examples of questions to ask include:

  • How did you get started in your business?
  • What do you enjoy most about what you do?
  • What would you do if you knew you couldn’t fail?
  • What significant changes have occurred in your business or industry within the past several years? How have those changes affected you?
  • How would you want people to describe you?
  • How would I know if a certain person is a good prospect or lead for you?

5. Be prepared

Be ready to answer the question about what you do with a response that focuses on the benefits to your clients, the problems they face and the results you create, NOT on activities or on what you ‘do.’ Don’t use labels like ‘lawyer’ or ‘attorney’ – usually labels make people stop listening and rely on their pre-conceived notions about what that label means.

6. Seek out strategic alliances

Potential clients aren’t the only reason to attend networking events. You can’t be all things to all people. Consider networking events as places to meet other who can provide services to your clients that are complimentary to yours, and who can become referral sources for your business. Remember that when you’re networking or meeting people, you’re connecting with their entire network, too.

7. Make diverse contacts

Many lawyers make the mistake of joining groups or speaking to people that are too similar to them. That creates an ‘echo chamber’ effect in which people are echoing back the same information and contacts to you. The goal in networking is to widen your net.

8. Follow up

Most networking efforts fail in the follow up. Intentions aren’t enough. Action is the key. Networking is about creating relationships, and real relationships can’t be formed in a few minutes in a room full of people. For networking to be effective, you need to follow up with those you meet at a networking event. Some ideas:

  • Send a handwritten thank you note reminding the recipient who you are, where you met and what you discussed
  • Contact a new connection and suggest meeting for coffee to learn more about their business
  • Send an article or information on a topic you discussed
  • Introduce a prospect to someone else that can help them, personally or professionally

9. Be patient

Research shows that it can take between 7 and 9 contacts with a prospect before they make a decision to do business with you. The same is true for strategic alliances or referral sources. Don’t get discouraged if business doesn’t magically appear immediately.

10. Keep track of your networking contacts

Create a database or place to organize and store information about the people you meet – don’t just throw a pile of business cards in a drawer. Your database should include information about where and when you met them, what they do professionally, and what their business and personal interests are.

Make Extra Money On Your Spare Time

On most week-ends I will have lots of spare time after I am done with helping my wife on household chores. After family time, many people will have time left that they can use for worthwhile activities from which they can make extra money. In my case, when I started first I used this extra money to accumulate and utilized to start up my Online business. I needed money to purchase software or e-books that are very useful for running a small business. If you are up to it there are many things that you can do to make a bit of extra money.

Consider these possibilities:

Utilize your digital camera and become a part-time field inspector. For insurance companies or mortgage companies, etc. You get the orders from the company, take pictures of houses and other properties as they requested, email them to the company and get paid for your service. If you are able to do four or five a day, you can make $100+ easily. Continue that on weekends or when ever you have extra time available.

My son is a computer guy. After his regular work as a computer programmer, he works on other people’s computer issues and gets paid good money. If you have any talent and interest like that, it is fun to work and earn extra money.

Part time landscaping opportunity is an area to look into. If you like working outdoors, you should consider letting others know that you are available for that type of work on their yards. Cutting grass, planting trees and getting paid.

Another way to make some extra money is by using the internet. The internet is the world’s biggest marketplace, and if you know how to use it correctly you can start to make a decent secondary income on even on a part time bases. Find out the options that are available online. For example, one idea will be to create mini websites for businesses and others. That talent can be learned within a couple of weeks. I used a home study course that taught me how to create web sites. It is very good and will teach you step-by-step how to do it.

Become a newspaper delivery person will be one thing that is available. Historically speaking, many people over the years have taken jobs like that. Check with your local newspaper paper entity and see if they are hiring for weekend or evening delivery people. Doing this a couple of days a week can make you a bit of extra money without having to put in too much time and effort.

About two years ago I opened up my Online Shop, started on a part-time base. A couple of hours a day were enough to make a supplemental income. Not only the income, once I become a small business owner I also become qualified for tax breaks allowed by the IRS. With minimum investment and knowledge about how to set up an online shop, you can also do this. The process will be much easier with knowledge.

Overall, making extra money on the weekends available free time is more than possible. Consider the above smile and easy ideas. Hundreds more are available, and you can find them in no time if you start searching today.

Secrets Of Time Management - Who Says?

Double tasking is the secret for multiplying your use of time–according to some so-called experts. We are told to make it a habit to increase our efficiency. But it never produces the promised results.

As an example, remember the special dinner you were attempting to prepare while planning the conference agenda for tomorrow’s meeting. Neither activity was a proud example of your skills or intellect. Or, how much of the food did you really taste while you were watching a favorite television program? The only time that truly exists is now–the past is gone and the future is yet to come. Two things simply cannot occupy the same space.

Most likely, the individuals receiving our “half-attention” will feel hurt and angry at what they consider is an insult. Has this ever happened to you? You go into another office to discuss a new project or give a progress report. All you get is some muttered responses because the person is busy reading and deleting emails or checking the stack of phone messages. More than likely you are not going to be eager to repeat the performance any time soon.

Truly listening to what is said takes concentration but it is worth the effort. You will never know if the speaker has a new, unique point of view unless you listen. Now is the best time to ask questions to clarify any parts that need to be explained. Certainly it is a better use of time to finish the discussion rather than discovering another meeting is necessary to fill in the information gaps.

Assuming we know another person’s mind is risky–even with friends or co-workers we have known for years. Do not anticipate based on past history. What good does it serve you to live today based on your memory of yesterday? You totally miss the present moment.

Everything changes! We may have had many similar experiences together in the past and yet our interpretation of them is different. A classic example is the police report of the same accident viewed by two or more persons. The people are not lying–it is simply that each one saw it from a different viewpoint. These kinds of differences are what make our lives more interesting and challenging. How boring it would be if we all saw everything in exactly the same way!

Never forget that we communicate on unconscious levels. Body posture, eye contact and hand movements add depth to the meaning of spoken words. You gain extra information that words alone cannot convey. Observing body movements gives us clues about the person’s honesty, confidence and belief in the ideas being presented.

Listening to a speaker with the concentration they deserve has another benefit. Your willingness to listen gives them courtesy and respect. That is a good start for any productive business or personal relationship.

Could You Date Someone Ugly?

Q. Can you date someone regardless of how their facial or body appearance is? Does beauty have to be on the outside as well as the inside? (Marina)

A. Anyone who says that beauty doesn’t matter is likely to be lying. If they are not, the statement has an association with how they view themself and their own experience. It suggests they do not consider themselves to be any great ‘beauty’ so they are hoping people will ignore their physicality to concentrate on the inner person. But there are some things in conflict with this approach.

First, until we open our mouths and speak, nature has only one way of bringing people together: their looks. Thus the whole process starts with whether someone’s physical appearance appeals to us in any way for us to take it further and discover more about them. Then it moves to voice, then personality and finally the whole person. Yes, we have to have that inner beauty of warmth, compassion and care. But we cannot know anything about someone’s inner beauty until we make physical contact and it is the outer beauty that decides the fate of the connection before anything else. So, when someone says that looks doesn’t matter and it is only the inner being that should count, they might as well date a horse or a dog, because for them, only what’s inside that matters!!

Secondly, when we speak of looks, we are not talking about some inflexible version of beauty, or certain socially engineeered perceptions of beauty, like the Brad Pitts and Denzel Washingtons of this world. Looks are individual to the person they appeal to. That is why I adore Richard Gere and Robert de Niro, but see nothing so handsome in Brad Pitt. Yet millions of panting women would disagree with me. I am judging Gere and de Niro by my own personal interpretation of what constitutes ‘beauty’ which might not match that of many other women.

So, could we date someone who isn’t good looking?

Yes, we could. Looks are not defined by the rest of the world, but by our own individual perception and yardstick of what we find appealing in another human being, which might then appear ‘ugly’ and unattractive to others. Looks are also racially, culturally and gender referenced. So what might be regarded externally as ‘ugly’ in one culture might be simply beautiful within it. Thus our soulmate’s looks has to appeal to us personally for us to appreciate it, not a universal appeal which is vague and undefining. That’s why we always wonder at the pairing of some couples because we cannot see what they can see in each other. Yet, to that couple, the mutual beauty is clear and unmistakeable. We are not able to see the attraction because we are judging that couple from our yardstick of beauty, not theirs.

Looks do matter, in all forms, particularly one’s face - and boobs!! It’s just that some people like to pretend that it doesn’t, if their own feelings about themselves tend to be negative. The only sure thing about looks is that they are individual in appeal to whomever is attracted, while they can be repelling to someone else, but they are essential in bringing us together for pairing. Everything else is secondary!

Travel Stories - Massage Training in the Jungles of Belize - Life

The Maya ruled what is now Guatemala, El Salvador, southern Mexico, Honduras and Belize. Belize is a multi-ethnic country. The people are Mestizo, descendents of Spanish and Maya marriages; Afro-Creole, descendents of African and Maya marriages; Maya; and Garifuna or Black Carib, descendents of marriages between African and Caribbean, the original inhabitants of Belize. English is the official language. Though a mixture of Spanish and African dialects with Carib has resulted in the delightful sounding Creole dialect.

Another ten miles and we’re driving through Maskall Village. I see tiny, plain faced huts with dirt floors, and square shingled houses on stilts. Barefooted children with varying tones of skin color, dressed in little, or nothing, stare as we pass by.

We roll down our windows. I feel a hot breeze. The air is saturated with strange, pleasant aromas. We pass a mango tree. In the distance I hear drums, beating.

There’s a shocking lack of techno-gadgets in a jungle village. No television, no cars, no computers. Not even basic services exist like indoor plumbing, electricity, or telephones.

My driver informs me that two modern conveniences recently arrived in Maskall. A generator and a telephone. The generator provides daily electrical service from 6 p.m. to midnight. The favorite appliance I am told is a washing machine though television runs a close second.

Villagers communally share their utility services. For instance in Maskall the villagers decided to have their one phone installed at Miss Delva’s centrally located hut. Children stop by, collect the bits of scrap paper with scribbled messages and run, delivering them around the village.
