We All Love Stuffed Animals

Stuffed animals are one of the precious possessions of kids. It would not be wrong to say that adults love to have stuffed animals too. Stuffed animals are stuffed with straws, beans, cotton or other substances. This is not a new trend but can be seen way back in the history. It can be seen in the ancient Egyptian civilization where it can be seen in the paintings done on the tombs that they had used stuffed animals not only for religious purposes but also for children’s entertainment.

It is also seen that in the middle ages of Europe there were stuffed animals used in plays to symbolize the animals in the Bible like lions, serpents etc. Therefore the stuffed toys have been present since centuries. Since the middle of the 17th Century when the world was taking a turn towards industrialization, the production of toys started on a large scale and since this was an untapped area, the companies turned their attention towards making stuffed animals on a large scale.

The production of stuffed animals on a large scale brought huge financial returns to the companies and this was then considered a complete business entity in itself. The most common stuffed animals these days are the teddy bears, sock monkeys, rabbits, hamsters, hippos. The production of stuffed animals is a complete industry in itself and the company who is known as the pioneer of stuffed animals is Steiff located in Germany. Among Steiff, other commercial manufacturers are Ty, Gund, Russ Berrie and Build-A-Bear Workshop etc.

Preparing Your Pond For Warmer Weather

Spring is on the here and your sleeping pond is ready to awaken. Help your pond or water garden make a healthy and stress-free transition back to life with these helpful tips:

Early Spring:
Plan Improvements - Don’t worry if it’s still too early to open your pond. Use the time to plan pond improvements. Is this the year to add a fountain? Or a waterfall? Or perhaps install a new, energy-efficient water pump?

Take inventory of your pond maintenance supplies,
Was there something you wish you had last year to make pond maintenance easier? A better net or a pair of Aqua Gloves? Are there new products you want to try or something you’ve been meaning to get - like Chest Waders to keep you dry and warm when standing in 45ºF pond water? Check your existing inventory, stock up on essentials such as extra tubing for emergency repairs, and take the plunge. Try new timesaving maintenance products.

Get supplies for a healthy pond ecosystem
In early spring, the pond ecosystem is in a fragile, transitional state where water conditions can rapidly deteriorate. Increased biological activity means a greater demand for oxygen, especially in dirty ponds. As organic materials from the previous year begin to break down, they can lower pond pH, release harmful ammonia, and provide an abundant supply of nutrients for algae. Be prepared with pond water conditioners including pH adjusters, biological additives, ammonia detoxifiers, and a pond aeration kit.

Check plumbing & electrical
Carefully examine your filtration system to make sure everything is in working order. Check for cracks on the filter or kinks in the plumbing line and also test the ground fault circuit interrupter (GFCI) outlet. Replace all equipment or parts that are damaged or not working properly. This will ensure proper filter operation once the water temperature is warm enough (above 45°F), to start your pond filtration system.

  • Get a head start on your pond
Many natural processes that help maintain a healthy pond environment need time to establish. As soon as water temperatures are warm enough to run your pond filtration system, use bacterial additives to help jump-start biological filtration. Without bacterial additives, it can take a few weeks to establish efficient biological filtration. Natural products such as barley straw also require time to work effectively against algae. Add barley straw early in the season, before you have an algae problem, to reap its full benefits. If your pond water still turns green, products like AlgaeFix can be added to keep algae growth under control without harming ornamental pond plants.

  • Make planting easier
Pick a warm day and remove a small amount of water to simplify plant maintenance. Use an extra water pump and tubing to remove water without disconnecting your fixed system. The lower water level will make it easier for you to move over-wintering plants on the bottom of the pond to their respective shelves. As you move the plants, examine their overall condition. Keep extra plant baskets and planting media nearby so you can divide and repot the plants if they are crowded or are growing out of their planters. Use this opportunity to add plant food tablets and to remove larger settled debris. When refilling the pond, remember to use a dechlorinator.

    Lower fish stress
Fluctuating spring temperatures can be extremely stressful for pond fish, especially goldfish and koi that wintered over in the pond. To help reduce stress, turn off fountains or waterfalls during cold spells to slow the rate at which a pond cools. Do not feed your fish until pond water temperature is consistently above 50°F. Feed an easier-to-digest wheat germ based food once water temperatures remain above 50°F. Add a little bit of pond salt to help encourage a healthy slime coat so fish are able to naturally fend off parasites and bacterial infections.

Spring preparations organize and simplify your pond care, leaving you with plenty of time to enjoy a healthy, beautiful pond in your backyard that is easy to maintain.

Keeping Your Valuables Safe without Costing an Arm and Leg

If you have valuables, you may find it difficult to keep them safe in your home or office. It seems that all your neighbors are investing in intruder alert or motion sensor alarms. It’s great if you can afford these systems, but most of us can’t. In addition to the high cost of the installation of a new system, you also have to pay monthly charges to maintain the service on the system. Before you invest a lot of money, you need to think about what your needs are, and whether it is worth it or not. Many people don’t know that there are alternatives to keeping your valuables safe in your own home or business that won’t cost you a fortune.

If you are deciding what type of security that you need for your home or office, the first thing you are going to have to do is determine your need. Take a look at the things that you can’t afford to lose. This not only includes things that would be expensive to replace, but also things that are priceless to you or your business. Items that can’t be replaced because they are valuable to you are things like family heirlooms or jewelry that has been passed down from generation to generation, even if it’s just costume jewelry. For your business, priceless items could include paperwork, deeds to the property or even material things that are instrumental to your business.

When you are evaluating your valuables, make sure you take pictures of them, so that if you do lose them, you can have proof for the insurance company. Keep these pictures in a safe place. If you have a safe deposit box at the bank, make sure they go there; otherwise have a family member who doesn’t live with you keep them safe. Also, while you are doing this, make copies of your paperwork that would be hard to replace if lost. You can easily fit scans of all of your paperwork onto a CD or a flash hard drive.

Now gather all of your valuables, and you are probably like most people. You have a couple of things that are expensive, but most of your stuff isn’t worth investing the money for a huge security system. If you are like most people, your valuables are worth less than the cost a security system would be. If this is the case, there are some great products that can cleverly disguise your valuables for storage. One that comes recommended is the ‘can safe’. This disguises your valuables in a regular looking can of food, cleaning product or beauty product. This is great, because you can store your valuables close to where you use them. For example, if you have some jewelry, you can disguise it in a can of aerosol deodorant, and leave it on your dressing table next to your jewelry box. During a burglary, a thief will never know the difference, and your valuables will be safe. If you have valuables in the office, you can hide your valuables in a cleaning product can safe. If your home or office does get broken into, your valuables will be hidden away from the thieves.

You may be thinking that this is the same as putting your valuables in the freezer, but it isn’t. If you put some of your jewelry or paperwork in the freezer, you are risking damage to the item from both the cold and the moisture. It just isn’t worth it, especially if you have to wait three hours before your jewelry defrosts from the ice cube tray before you can wear it.

Why Ventilation in Your Home is Necessary

With conservation and the “green” way of life being so important in today’s new home structures, it is important to remember that along with making sure our homes are airtight to keep noxious fumes out, we must also provide a method to keep lethal mold from growing.

In recent years, homes have been built to be more energy efficient than ever before. To do this, the structures have to be built with airtight designs, windows that have better seals and insulation materials that are meant to use less electricity and gas. The result is fewer drafts as well as lower costs for heat and air-conditioning for the homeowner. Unfortunately, the same efficiency also retains pollutants that can be hazardous to the people living in the house.

This is why decent ventilation is so important to install. When quality vents are maintained, whether they have been retro-fitted or drawn into new plans many common household problems can be controlled, if not pretty much eliminated.

All homes, to some degree, have biological pollutants, such as mold, viruses and bacteria. These include dust mites, pet dander and other hazardous waste that can effect the health of the inhabitants as well as to the building itself.

Most of these pollutants tend to thrive in moist environments-most commonly in bathrooms, kitchens and laundry rooms. However defective gutters, defective waterproofing in basements or attics and even humans breathing can also generate the growth of mold and mildew.

The best way to prevent this problem and improve indoor air quality is to obviously reduce or remove as many as the pollutants as possible. Besides installing proper ventilation, it must also be used! This is quite simple. With a flip of the switch when entering the room, the fan goes on and should remain so for at least 20 minutes after the water source has been turned off.

As an example: When you enter the bathroom for your morning shower or bath, turn on the fan. Leave it on while you are finishing up your morning grooming procedures and straightening up your bedroom before heading out for the day. Turn it off before you leave. If it’s the laundry room, put on the unit prior to starting the first load and leave it on until after the last load from the dryer has been removed and put away.

Other steps that should be taken to improve the air quality inside your home: Remove paints, cleaning solvents and other chemicals and store them in a garage, or better yet a stand alone shed. If you do chose to store them in an attached garage, make sure there is an airtight seal between it and the living quarters. Use cleaning products that have a low level of toxicity.

Today there is also continuous ventilation available. All this means is that the unit is installed throughout the complete household structure and is on a timer which includes a sensor. When the sensor is told that a certain amount of moisture is in the environment, it turns itself on.

Fortunately there are also many companies that also have taken the need to adjust for noise pollution as seriously as they have taken the need for controlling the need for clean air. The units today are incredibly quiet.

Ideally, in today’s “green conscious” society, we can all enjoy the comforts of clean, pure air as well as energy efficient homes.

    Keeping It Together

Relationships are complex things. Each person is a complex individual, and a mixture of the two can at times become incendiary. There is a solution, however, to insuring that a relationship will last, and that solution is so simple that I wonder why it isn’t mentioned more often.

Before you met your significant other, there were no problems. You were perhaps lonely, or feeling that something was needed to complete you, but there was no anger or irritability, it was more of longing or feeling of incompleteness. There was no jealousy or fear, or resentment of any kind, only emptiness.

Or perhaps you were completely happy with your life, and the other person only made that happiness greater, only enhanced it. Life became even more enjoyable with each other’s company, and things are going swimmingly!

If your relationship is fine, you should be aware that things could change. If things do change, and you begin to feel uncomfortable for one reason or another, then you must find a remedy for this dissatisfaction. If you don’t, the dissatisfaction will fester and one day you might find yourself reacting badly, or even violently. Long before you allow this to happen, heed the little warnings and become pro-active, this will save you much pain, and might even save your relationship.

As matter of fact, even before things turn south, when things are going good, it is well advised to buy a little insurance for yourself and your relationship by doing a few simple things yourself. If you can get your partner to join in, that would be even better, but if not, a solo endeavor works almost as well.

This uncomplicated insurance policy is to simply sit quietly every evening, (not in bed) with the TV off, the music off. It’s not complex. It means that no matter how difficult life becomes, or how intense, there is something greater that you recognize, and therefore life will never flatten you. And this is all communicated by sitting quietly without the insidious constant conversation that goes on endlessly.

This is a powerful thing. Not only will you both be able to step back from the constant pressure of life for a few moments, but your minds will take on a confidence and a companionship that goes much deeper than the sexual, familial, and financial bonds that you have formed. This is a maturity that changes lives and saves relationships. If you have chlildren, you will be surprised how quickly they get into sitting quietly with their parents as well, especially younger children.

If you find that you cannot sit quietly for ten minutes, that you have more important things to do or that sitting quietly seems silly, then be very careful. This indicates an enlarged ego, and could spell trouble down the line for a relationship.

Try not to connect these special quiet moments to any religion. Keep them for yourselves; go within yourselves and discover the true love that can be found there. This love is not attachment or dependency, but an acknowledgment that both of you understand, and that in that understanding lies a unique love that only the two of you share. It’s a way to not only maintain a relationship, but perhaps save a world.

Where Do You Start With Internet Marketing?

Well, having decided that the internet marketplace is where you want to focus your efforts, you need a place to start from. Just exactly where is that? “At the beginning, of course,” is the phrase that echoes inside your skull. But where is the beginning? You could drive yourself crazy trying to work that one out, so just to help you, here is a taster of some of the many different ways of earning an honest income on the internet. We’ll cover paid surveys, reading emails, paid typing and sales advertising to get you thinking of a good place to start.

One of the first things you come across in your search for an online income is paid surveys. There are plenty of companies out there offering to pay you for taking their surveys and the pay can vary from points or discount vouchers to actual money from a few dollars to upwards of thirty dollars or more. It all sounds very promising and an easy way to make a living online, but there are drawbacks. The availability of surveys in your geographical location can mean you get loads of work or hardly anything at all. So it pays to read the small print before you sign up for any of these work at home companies. Next we’ll look at being paid to read.

Being paid to read emails or ads also sounds like a great easy way of making money online, but it’s not all it seems. There are some companies offering to pay silly sums of money, as much as fifty dollars, just to read emails. But when you think about it logically, why would anyone want to pay a bunch of people that much money just to read emails? It doesn’t make sense and of course not. There are companies around that use that sales pitch to hook people in and sign up, then when they read the small print, the real pay is just a few cents per email. Ok, you are earning money online, but who wants to work flat out for less than fifty cents an hour? Next we’ll look at being paid to type.

There are a few companies that will pay you to type for them. This kind of work usually involves typing transcripts from audio recordings and requires a high level of English grammar and accuracy. There is often a test to be taken before you can sign up and start earning. If you pass, then you can start receiving jobs to type up. The pay varies from company to company. Often you will have to bid for jobs by setting a price that you are willing to work for per hour. You will be competing against other writers from around the world, so you might not get what you are worth, or if you pitch your price too high, you won’t get the jobs. Next we’ll take a brief look at sales advertising.

If you can sell ice boxes to Eskimos, you might have a chance of making some decent income from selling advertising packs to people who want to promote their own businesses for the companies who market them. It does beg the question that if these advertising packs are so good, why aren’t the companies using their own methods to promote themselves? Makes you wonder, doesn’t it?

In this brief overview of some of the ways to earn money on the internet we found out a little about paid surveys, paid to read, paid to type and sales advertising. This will be enough to get you thinking about where you should start in your quest to earn an honest income online.

Why Am I Working So Hard Without Proper Rewards?

    Q. Elaine, how is it the more you try, the worse it gets? To be happy and carefree seems an impossible request. What say you, oh wise one? I’m just feeling down at the moment, nothing going my way as usual. I work 80-100hrs a week trying to make ends meet. But every time I see the goalposts something goes wrong, and I’m back to square one again. I cannot tell my wife how I feel, because she worries more than me. (Jim)

    A. Hi, Jim, thanks for confiding in me. You sound exactly like where I was 10 years ago. Working every hour that God sent, for very little money, very unhappy and feeling as though I was going backwards instead of forwards.

Then my marriage fell apart because someone somewhere was trying to tell me something and I had refused to listen. I was stuck on this treadmill of deadlines, on and on, being too scared to give up, yet even more scared to carry on in the same vein, while debts were piling and even less money was coming in. Then one day, without warning, I suddenly couldn’t go on any more and my marriage went with it too. That was over 6 years ago. Since then, I have never felt better. I had to go backwards for a while in order to go forward, but my confidence is now at is peak, I feel as though the sky is my limit, I have time to smell the roses and, above all, I feel human again instead of a robot. I have less money but I am far less stressed too and feeling great to be alive.

Often, Jim, we forget that we are not here on earth to work, but actually to be HAPPY, to live and be creative to enjoy that living. If you are working so hard, no wonder you are so unhappy. Where is your life? Where is the appreciation of that life?

    Reasons for Current Actions

What you are doing stems from one, or all, of 6 main things:

    1. A desire for perfection.

    2. A lack of positive reinforcement from those we love, so we just keep on trying to please without much gratitude.

    3. Lack of confidence in ourself.

    4. Fear of change.

    5. Insecurity in our skills and capabilities.

    6. Inability to make DECISIONS because of fear of the consequences.

Which ones apply to you, Jim? And how could you change them for the better?

In fact, why not re-number the list in your priority order, starting from which ones apply to you the MOST. That will tell you what you need to focus on immediately to change both the approach to your life and what is happening in it. I cannot help by advising you, as I really don’t know your situation fully, but I can give some suggestions.

People often take their life for granted but the only time we are guaranteed is TODAY. If we don’t make the most of it, we won’t have another day like it, so time to make some changes in your life. Only you know what they need to be. If you are not sure, look at your HABITS - the way you do things. That is the way to see your future because the habits you have now will continue to give you the same results forever and ever if you do not change them.

    Resisting Change

If your life isn’t working the way you wish, and you keep banging your head against a brick wall, it means you are resisting change by living in denial in order to keep in your little comfort zone. But when we fight against change we lose our confidence because everything becomes more difficult. Moreover, life just flashes by us, leaving us stranded along the way, and feeling even more lost and vulnerable.

The simple solution for sorting out your life, even before you answer the personal questions I gave you, is to DO SOMETHING DIFFERENT. No matter what it is, no matter how big or small. CHANGE YOUR RESULT so that you can have something to start feeling good about again. Often people get inro a rut simply through developing habits which should have been ditched or replaced ages ago. Just like people using paper lists when they should be using computers! However, you have taken the first step by coming to me. That is a subconscious acknowledgement that something HAS to change in your life. You just need to keep searching for those answers which are relevant to your situation.

As to your wife and not telling her, that is your decision. But marriage is a partnership and when partners get surprises they don’t expect, that’s the time they normally want out because they can’t cope with the truth and they are likely to distrust you from then on. However, if they are allowed to share that problem, they might have solutions you haven’t even thought about. Often it is our ego which gets in the way of asking for help, and a fear of the consequences. Yet, we have to fully face whatever life throws at us, especially with the support of our partners, because that’s how we become stronger, more knowledgeable, even more determined and draw closer together.

Hang in there, Jim. Things will improve if you face your fears, change your approach and begin to look at all the possible solutions.

    How Does Anxiety Feel?

Imagine if you will this scenario: You are sitting in your boss’s office taking dictation. Suddenly, and without warning, an empty feeling in your stomach begins to creep up into your chest; your hearing becomes acute; your peripheral vision widens; you are unable to focus on anything; not your boss; not your steno pad – nothing. Then you heart begins to race so hard you think you are having a heart attack. You experience fr

ight and flight, and need to get out of that office and run. You don’t know where – but somewhere safe. You hurry to the elevator, but afraid to board as it is too small; you take the stairs and quickly descend to the outdoors where among the throng of people, you become suddenly in control. You stand against the building; still unable to think clearly. Finally, your heartbeat returns to normal; you begin to focus and are able to breathe without hyperventilating. This is how anxiety feels, and the panic attack that results.

The after affects leave you totally spent; emotionally and physically. You become very tired, and need sleep. You feel cold and shaky. Your body is in shock and begins to return to its normal function after what it primarily thought was an attack. Once home, you fall into a deep and restful sleep. You wake up refreshed, but in the back of your mind you are sure the next time you step into your boss’s office, it will happen again.

What has just been related to you is the harsh reality associated with anxiety and panic attacks. More often than not, wherever a person experiences an attack; that place is never visited again. Moreover, if an attack happens on a bridge or tunnel; they are avoided as well. Soon your world becomes smaller and smaller until you begin to miss days at work; drive less often; avoid crowded places; and finally, never leave your home.

While anxiety attacks were considered “nervous conditions” over 30 years ago; you can be sure they are not considered that today. Panic attacks are real diseases which affect hundreds of thousands of people. Researchers have determined it is caused by a chemical imbalance. Others inappropriately deem it to be a need for attention or other ludicrous explanations.

Unless you have been through an anxiety attack, you have no way of truly understanding the depth of fear associated with it. Fortunately for anxiety sufferers, the medical community does not only understand it, but has sufficient methods to enable people to live with it, and/or rid themselves of it forever. How does anxiety feel? It feels like the end of the world.
