Success Secret - Henry Ford’s Success Secret Revealed

Henry Ford is a great example of how someone can come from an underprivileged life and become an enormous success. Henry Ford gave the world many great things but two of those stick out above the rest. He gave us the automobile and the production assembly line. These two things changed the course of the world.

Looking at a life like Henry Ford’s can give great insight in how to become successful in your own life. Henry Ford revealed one of his secrets of success when he stated, ‘Nothing is particularly hard if you divide it into small jobs.’ Henry Ford was a man of great vision and foresight but his ability to break down this vision into smaller pieces helped him achieve great success.

Have you ever felt overwhelmed by something you knew you had to do? It’s so easy to focus on the big picture and get discouraged because you never know how you are going to get it done. Instead of focusing on the end result, break your tasks down into much smaller, achievable pieces.

This can be compared to doing a puzzle. Have you ever done a puzzle that seems impossible to complete? You see all of these pieces that you have to put together and you don’t even know where to start. So you work a little here and a little there but it doesn’t seem like you are getting anywhere. The best remedy for that is to separate all the like colored pieces. Once you do this, you can then focus on one section at a time. You will see progress being made because you are focusing on only one section of the puzzle. Once you get that done you move on to the next section. As you begin to finish more and more sections, you realize that you have come a long way in completing the whole puzzle.

Use this approach, just like Henry Ford did, to maximize your success in every area of your life. Before you know it, you will be well on your way to becoming far more successful than you ever thought possible.

How To Put The Spring Thaw in Cold Calling

Very often I hear from new business and franchise owners that the idea of “Cold Calling” is intimidating. The idea of picking up the 50 pound weighted phone and calling someone, a business, out of the blue and trying to sell them is a major challenge. So much so that they ignore this opportunity to generate business for fear of failure. In the book of lists, speaking in front of people is ahead of death. I think Cold Calling probably deserves a place next to public speaking.

There are many great sales gurus out there who speak on the subject and they all say the same thing, “throw away the scripts”. I agree that scripts can be ‘a’ problem but not necessarily ‘the’ problem. What scripts tend to do is create a persona and therefore do not allow you to be your natural self. This is then, in my mind, the solution; be yourself. If you start with a script then it should be in bullet form and only to provide you a cue to the concept that you want to convey. This idea is similar to the use of PowerPoint slides to trigger your discussion on the bullet shown on the screen in your public presentation.

I learned many years ago when I was trying to over come my fear of speaking in front of a group of people that if you know your topic and speak from your heart with passion then the people you are speaking to will connect with you and your topic. The same is true when you call someone on the phone.

In addition, don’t call them to sell them something. This is telemarketing at it’s worst and we in North America now have built up a barrier to these types of calls. Your call objective is not to sell but rather to get an appointment. This one mind set change might be enough to start reducing your fear of cold calling.

Secondly, stop calling it “Cold Calling”. How about calling it “Prospecting”. You are just like the gold miners who keep hammering steel stakes into their claim until they find the vein, the mother lode. You are only exploring, prospecting, for the next opportunity.

So the next time you are frozen with fear, bring in spring with a new way of thinking and let the thaw begin.

Success - A Lesson To Learn From Heroes

Success in life can be a somewhat confusing process. Everyone is looking for success in their life but so few people actually achieve it. If you are looking for success, or more success than you have already, you know what the process is like to find the secret or key to unlock that next level of success in your own life.

Although there are many great books, cd’s, and seminars that you can learn from to assist you in achieving success, one of the greatest lessons can be learned from Ralph Waldo Emerson’s definition of a hero. He once said, ‘A hero is no braver than an ordinary man, but he is brave five minutes longer.’

If you think about this, how many times have you or someone you know, failed to achieve success because they bowed out to soon? If you have done this you know how it feels to look back and wish you had stuck it out a little longer. If you are thinking about quitting before you have reached success, just think about all the things that we have today that wouldn’t be here had their inventors quit. If Henry Ford would have quit short we wouldn’t have the car. If Thomas Edison quit short we wouldn’t have the light bulb.

Yet, if you think about this a little deeper you will realize that these heroes don’t have any extra talent or ability than the next person. They were just willing to stay in it for a little longer than the next person. This means that while most people are running the other way, you keep on pressing forward. You will feel the pressure of everyone else running against you. But just remember, a hero is braver for just five more minutes.

Self-Esteem Secret Revealed - How I Overcame A Low Self-Esteem

Having a low self-esteem can be absolutely paralyzing in life, I should know. I used to have a very bad image of myself and never thought that I could do anything of any significance in my life. The problem was that I wanted to have significance in my life but had no idea how to get past what I thought about myself.

One day I realized that it was up to me to do something about this. No one else could make me change even though they may have tried. I got to a point where I had had enough of having a low self-esteem so I decided to do what Ralph Waldo Emerson once said which was, ‘Always do what you are afraid to do.’

This was, as you can imagine, not an easy task for me. There were more things that I was afraid to do than the other way around because of what I thought about myself. But, I had made the decision that I was going to change so I just did it.

One of the things that I hated to do was talk to people who I didn’t know. So when I was in an environment that I was comfortable in, such as in church or at a friend’s house, I would force myself to introduce myself to at least one person and try to hold some sort of conversation. The first few times were an absolute disaster but I began to discover that people thought much more of me than I thought of myself. As a matter of fact, people actually enjoyed talking with me.

I applied this to other areas of my life because I began to realize that action removes fear. Most often, I was so busy being afraid about something that I would never even attempt doing it. So I just began to do it, which didn’t give me the opportunity to think about it as much.

If you have a low self-esteem, I encourage you to find something small that you hate to do and just start to do it. You will be amazed, over time, how you will begin to break past those insecurities and become the person that you only dare dream about.

Secret of Leadership - The Two Part Leader

There are so-called leaders all around. You probably know someone that is in a leadership position that should have never been put there. Knowing that there are ‘leaders’ like this in the world should discourage you from becoming like one of them. So how do you separate yourself from the rest of the so-called leaders and establish yourself as a leader whom everyone will want to follow?

A true leader has two main characteristics about them. The first is the ability to motivate. Leaders must be able to not only motivate themselves, but also be able to motivate and inspire those they are leading. Of course, the best way to motivate people is to truly be passionate about what you are doing. People long to follow someone who is passionate about something.

The second characteristic that a true leader must have is the ability to create successful habits in their lives. Successful habits are the glue that keeps everything together between the time where the motivation began and the end when success is achieved. Habits will make or break a leader.

You see, these qualities have to go together. If you are a good motivator but don’t have good habits, then things will fall apart. If you have great habits but can’t motivate, you will not inspire anyone to help, follow, or assist you along the way. If you want to separate yourself from the rest of the ‘leaders’ in this world, master these two characteristics so you can be the best leader possible.

Jewelry - Art or Embellishments?

How do we change people’s mind so that their love of jewelry springs from the appreciation of jewelry as a work of art? What may be lacking right now is a face that will represent the hands that make the jewelry themselves. A new Monet, or a Da Vinci of jewelry may be needed to take people’s mind off what kind of metal a piece of jewelry is made of or what precious gem adorns it and instead turn people’s mind towards the artistry of the piece and the skill of the jewelry maker and designer.

Through this, perhaps people will cease to be blinded by the jewelry’s price but will be more appreciative of the way a stone is set and the way every element complements each other. Perhaps, this will lead to a time when people will value a piece of jewelry even if mere seashells adorn it, as long as the jewelry piece’s craftsmanship is superb.

There are a lot of famous jewelers in the world today, but true appreciation and love of jewelry can be attained only by taking the art of jewelry-making and design closer to the public so that people can see past the carats to the art beneath.

The love of jewelry pieces knows no social class or social bounds. Everybody loves jewelry but do we really appreciate it? There are the faux pieces of jewelry worn by children, the belly rings of teenagers, the class rings of college graduates, the engagement ring of newly engaged couples, the wedding ring of married couples, the heirloom jewels from the grandparents. Everyone is touched by the power and lure of this seemingly magical artwork. However, do people really appreciate jewelry as a work of art, or do people just regard jewelry pieces as embellishments?

Leadership - How To Become A Pioneering Leader

Leadership is one of the greatest responsibilities that you can have on this earth. Unfortunately, most people don’t really know how to lead in a way that makes them a great leader. If you are a leader, or aspire to be a leader in some area of your life, make a decision that you are going to be a leader who makes an impact, not just a leader who tells people what do. So how do you do this?

All great leaders have gone where no one else has gone. They are the ones that go off the beaten trail and make a better one. Ralph Waldo Emerson says it like this, ‘Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.’ This is the sign of a great leader.

Great leaders blaze a trail so that countless others can follow behind them. Think of great leaders such as Abraham Lincoln, Martin Luther King Jr., Thomas Edison, and Oprah. All of these people have become known as great leaders because they have created knew ways of thinking and doing things. They saw that the path the world was on was not one that served the world its best.

What is on the inside of you that you know is off of the beaten path that will help those around you and possibly even the entire world? As stated at the beginning, true leadership is a great responsibility because you will be forging a way the others to follow. Decide today that you will become a great leader; one that goes where there is no path and leave a trail for the betterment of the world.

Successful Onboarding - Key to Employee Retention and Productivity

We have all been through it — the company orientation. You know, that brief period of time when we are introduced to a new company or new job at an existing site of employment. Forms, Power Point slides, maybe even an executive droning on about how great the company is; than it’s over and you are thrown into your job thinking, “now what?”

With the increasing speed of business, companies cannot afford to wait for new or lateral hires to “get up to speed” or, worse yet, become disillusioned and leave the company or “quit and stay.” According to industry studies, 90% of employees cement their opinion about a company within the first six months of employment. Clearly, that one or three day orientation does not cut it anymore.

A comprehensive onboarding program is now the approach of choice for best-in-class companies to keep employees engaged throughout their career, reduce turnover, increase employee job satisfaction and, ultimately, raise productivity levels.

Best-in-Class Onboarding

A successful onboarding program does not come in a box. There is no plug-and-play solution. Best practice dictates that an onboarding program should be tailored to meet company objectives and reflect common practices within their industry. Successful onboarding programs, however, share similar traits:

- The program is not an exercise completed within three months or less, but a holistic approach which encompasses an employee’s entire career with that company.

- Don’t just focus on new hires, but also include onboarding employees to new positions, departments, groups or projects.

- They utilize technology to automate forms management, task management, training and other components to increase proficiency and time to productivity.

- Create several “touch-points” or engagements with employees beyond the orientation period. Many employees feel abandoned after the initiation and/or orientation phase of onboarding.

- Have robust mentoring programs, measure retention rates and time to performance, and have remediation programs.

- Reinforce the company culture during every phase of the onboarding process.

The Process Starts with Analysis

The key to initiating a successful onboarding program starts with an in-depth analysis of your current orientation or onboarding processes to uncover the following:

- Components that are currently working
- Components that may, unknowingly, be working against you
- Components that require updates or minor tweaking
- Gaps in your current program, compared to Best-in-Class onboarding practices
- Determining exactly what you want to achieve, objectives and expectations

Skipping the analysis phase usually results in subjective solutions that respond only to “best guesses.” It’s like a physician making a diagnosis and prognosis over the phone; “Well, based on what you are telling me, I think you have heartburn…or maybe heart disease…not sure, but take an aspirin or antacid and see how it goes.”

By performing an objective analysis of your current orientation or onboarding process, however, issues and gaps can be quickly identified and an accurate diagnosis and prognosis made. It can be the difference between a program with a solid ROI and one that is inefficient and does not meet your objectives.

It’s More than New Hire Orientation

Remember that sink or swim feeling after your last orientation? Successful onboarding programs don’t just address new hires or the first few weeks of employment, but encompass the entire employment cycle of the employee from pre-hire to career pathing and advancement.

This series of articles will discuss the seven phases of a comprehensive best-in-class onboarding program. The next article will discuss the importance of the pre-hire stage to successful onboarding. It is important to remember, however, that the first step to a great onboarding program is figuring out what exactly is broken. Only then can the right approach be designed and implemented.

How To Stay Motivated Like Henry Ford

Staying motivated is not always easy with the stress and pressures that you have to deal with everyday. It’s very easy to look at everything that needs to be done and feel overwhelmed. Motivation can seep out of you as you begin to go over in your mind how you are supposed to do everything in the time frame that you have to get them done.

Whenever you feel this way, it’s always good to step back and begin to find ways to take control instead of the tasks ahead taking control of you. If you are able to stay in control, you will be able to stay much more motivated to complete and succeed in everything you do. One of the most successful people in the world, Henry Ford, had a great approach to staying motivated. He once said, ‘Nothing is particularly hard if you divide it into small jobs.’

This is a very simple concept, but if you apply it to your own situation, you will see that it works wonders. Instead of focusing on everything that needs to be done, break it all down into smaller jobs. Remove things that will distract you or are just a time waster.

Doing smaller, more achievable jobs will help you stay motivated because you are able to complete them and move on to the next job. You will feel a sense of accomplishment by completing each job, which will give you the motivation to move on to the next job. Before you know it you will have tremendous momentum going on in your life and will find that the big task in front of you no linger seems quite as big.

Happiness – Discover The Number One Enemy Of Happiness

It’s amazing how almost everywhere you look today you can see stories about people who do all kinds of things to acquire happiness. There is more money, more entertainment, and more opportunities in the world than ever before but there seems to be even more unhappiness than ever before.

You see, people try to find happiness in things like money, relationships, and other material things, but find that it just leaves them empty. The truth of the matter is that you can never be truly happy unless you are doing what you are made to do. There is something on the inside of you that has huge potential and the ability to change the world you live in.

And the main reason why you, along with most people, don’t accomplish that greatness is because of fear. Fear is the main enemy of happiness. If you had no fear, then you would do whatever it is that’s in your heart to do. And by doing so, you would be happy because you would know that you are doing everything you were meant to do in this life.

What fears are holding you back from living your best life? What is it that you dream about doing but are afraid to do? The thing is this, you could have all the things in this world at your fingertips, but if you knew that you weren’t doing what you were born to do, you would live a miserable and unhappy life.

Expose fear, confront it, and make a decision to defeat the enemy of your happiness. Living to your full potential in life is the greatest, most fun, and most thrilling thing that you could ever do.
