Myths About Dizziness - The Truth Behind Two of the Most Common

Myth: I’m so dizzy; I must have had a stroke
Truth: There are many causes of dizziness, and not all are life-threatening
Benign positional vertigo (BPV) is the most common cause of dizziness. It is caused when the tiny crystals in your inner ear - those responsible for balance - break free and float around in the inner ear fluids. When the head moves in certain positions, these floaters tickle the balance cells, causing transient vertigo.

There are other causes of dizziness as well. Labyrinthitis is an inflammation of the inner ear caused by viral infection or other causes. Its symptoms, which include dizziness, usually last for several hours and then diminish.

Meniere’s disease is another cause of dizziness. Although the causes of this condition are varied, the symptoms include a build up of excessive inner ear fluid, causing pressure. This results in hearing loss,
stuffiness in the ear, and debilitating recurrent vertigo spells that can last hours.

So how can you tell what is causing your dizziness? If you have BPV you will likely experience room-spinning vertigo that occurs with looking up, down or rolling over in bed and lasts a few seconds.

Labyrinthitis is marked by violent vertigo with nausea and vomiting lasting for hours. There is usually no hearing loss or other ear symptoms, and an attack may be followed by weeks of unsteadiness or temporary vertigo when rolling over in bed.

Meniere’s disease is accompanied by recurrent bouts of vertigo, possible nausea, and vomiting lasting 30 minutes to hours. Meniere’s disease is usually accompanied by hearing loss, pressure in the ear, and roaring or ringing in the ear.

Luckily, all of these conditions can be successfully treated. BPV is treated in the office, where a vestibular therapist performs a maneuver called the Semont Maneuver that moves the crystals away from the balance cells. Ninety percent of patients with vertigo are cured with this treatment, which occasionally it needs to be repeated.

Labyrinthitis is treated with oral medication to reduce the dizziness sensation and replacement of fluids for any associated nausea and vomiting. In severe cases, hospitalization is required to provide medications intravenously until the symptoms subside.

Meniere’s disease is treated with a variety of medications and surgical procedures, all designed to help reduce the frequency of vertigo attacks. Among the medications used to treat Meniere’s disease are diuretics, circulatory medication, sedatives, and steroids

Despite these possible causes of dizziness, stroke cannot be ruled out, as it is also a cause. A stroke occurs when the blood flow to the brain is interrupted and the brain cells are deprived of oxygen. There are several symptoms of stroke, including
–sudden onset of dizziness or vertigo;
–difficulty walking or loss of coordination;
–numbness or weakness of the face, arm or leg;

–confusion;
–difficulty with speech; and
–severe headache.

If any of these symptoms suddenly occur, the person should be rushed to the emergency room for evaluation and treatment. Every minute that the brain is deprived of oxygen the potential for brain damage increases, so it is imperative that a suspected stroke be evaluated by emergency room physicians immediately.

Myth: My balance is bad because I am getting old, and I’ll have to live with that
Truth: Age is not a factor in maintaining healthy balance function

Your balance mechanism works like a tripod. The three arms of the tripod are the balance canals in the inner ear, eyesight, and sensations from the joints and muscles in your legs and feet. Sensory messages from three sources are sent to the brain, where they are organized into meaningful information. Based on this information your brain then sends out new messages - instructions to your muscles to maintain your balance.

There are many causes of dizziness and imbalance. Confused messages, blocked message pathways, or weakness in the brain or the tripod limbs all can cause imbalance. Other possible reasons include:
–lack of circulation to the balance area of the brain,
–drop in blood pressure when you move from sitting to standing (orthostatic hypotension),
–inner ear disorders,
–vision problems,
–diseases of the bones and joints,
–side effects of medication, and
–drug interactions.

Additionally, an irregular heart beat or heart condition and neurological diseases may cause lightheadedness, dizziness, or imbalance.

But the majority of balance problems result from dysfunction in the inner ear balance canals. And dysfunction of two tripod limbs at the same time makes it even more difficult to maintain balance.

In order to correctly diagnose the cause of your dizziness you should be evaluated by an ENT physician. This evaluation includes specialized tests that measure inner ear and balance function. In some instances, a neurologist or other specialty physicians may need to be consulted.

You can note some basic symptoms yourself and share them with your doctor, aiding in the diagnosis process:
–If your imbalance occurs only for a short time when getting out of bed or when rising from a sitting position, it can be due to a transient drop in blood pressure.
–Unsteadiness or imbalance only when walking can be related to problems in the balance center of the brain or the balance canals in the inner ear.
–Vision problems can also be a cause of dizziness or imbalance.

Sometimes there are multiples causes of dizziness, which may require more specialized treatment. But in most instances, dizziness and imbalance can be treated by initiating Vestibular Rehabilitation (VR).

VR is an individualized program of home exercises and activities designed by a therapist with specialized training in balance disorders. Prior to starting VR, your musculoskeletal system will be assessed by testing the strength, coordination, and range of motion in your arms and legs. The therapist will also observe your balance when walking.

With this information your therapist can design a program to meet your specific needs. Then your progress is monitored at regular follow-up appointments.

The goal of VR is to decrease dizziness and increase balance function, improving general daily activity levels. Remember, age is not a factor in maintaining healthy balance function!

Self Hypnosis Help - 3 Helpful Tips

Most people develop an interest in self hypnosis because they want to be able to archive personal development. Without the right procedure most will fail with their goals. Here I’m going to tell you a few helpful self hypnosis tips.

Tip #1

What do you want to archive with your self hypnosis? Try to always be clear about your goals and write them down before you begin the hypnosis. Writing down exactly what you want to change or archive can really help your mind to comprehend your goals and they will become more realistic. Try to keep it short and easy at first, and only one or two goals per session will help you focus.

Tip #2

At what time do you perform your self hypnosis? Just doing it at random times will not help you very much. Self hypnosis is best practised in the morning because then it will set you up for the day. This will keep you focused the whole day on your goals and you have a lot better chance of succeeding. Doing it immediately when you wake up is not good because you might fall back into sleep. It’s better to shower and have your breakfast first.

Tip #3

When you are done with your self hypnosis session, never get up immediately. You should come back slowly and keep your eyes closed for 2-3 minutes after the session. Feel your body slowly get more and more awake before you get completely awake. It’s good to give it 5-10 minutes in the wakeup phase.

Hope these self hypnosis help tips have been useful and if you like it I will keep writing more of these. Just remember to never ever stress yourself during your session. It could be worth going up 20 minutes earlier every morning to get time for your hypnosis.

Antidepressants and Persistent Pulmonary Hypertension of the Newborn

When the drug Paxil was initially released into the market it was hailed, arguably, as the next greatest step forward in the antidepressant and signature drug line and the start of a long expected boom in that industry. Paxil (or paroxetine) is used to treat a number of conditions such as obsessive compulsive disorder, stress, anxiety attacks, panic attacks and of course it is most popularly known for treating symptoms of depression.

While it is reasonably effective in fulfilling its intention, there are certain side effects of taking the Paxil drug that could pose a problem to certain groups of people. These side effects have since been confirmed to be much more severe than initially thought, causing the Food and Drug Administration to increase its warning on Paxil.

One of the worst and most tragic side effects of the Paxil drug was observed in the offspring born to pregnant women that took the drug during their pregnancy. It caused damage to the fetus and many children were born with either a heart or lung defect, and a condition known as , Persistent Pulmonary Hypertension of the Newborn or PPHN for short. The astounding number of reports of children born with birth defects has made the whole tale a sad one and in response to this, on September 27, 2005, the FDA issued a strong warning to pregnant women about the risk of Paxil causing birth defects. In addition to this warning, Paxil labels now include the risk of birth defects but it is a step that has come far too late for some families.

A closer look at PPHN

Paxil belongs to a class of drugs referred to as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors. All drugs in this class are used to treat conditions similar to the ones that Paxil is effective for. Multiple SSRIs, including Paxil have been linked to the PPHN condition due to the absorption of some of the ingredients into the placenta of a pregnant woman and the eventual damaging of the developing fetus.

Persistent Pulmonary Hypertension of the Newborn is a condition that is similar to normal hypertension but is occurring in newborn infants. Infants can not breathe because of the constriction of blood vessels and the cutting off of oxygen to the blood. PPHN can also be responsible for causing severe damage to organs like the brain and the kidneys, both of which are very sensitive to changes in blood oxygen content. Because the problem occurs in newborns and actually happened at a stage of development before birth, the defects can be very severe and cases where newborns are not able to recover despite rigorous and prolonged treatment are not uncommon.

It is very important to note that while Paxil does cause these birth defects, it is not the only SSRI drug to do so. Pregnant women, if taking any SSRI and especially Paxil, should consult their Doctor before doing so and should only take the drug under medical supervision for the duration of their pregnancy. Women that act otherwise are risking that the child they are carrying might potentially be born with a severe lung or heart defect.

Work it This Winter - Must Haves for the Perfect Winter Wardrobe

Winter wardrobes don’t have to be depressing gray and black. Make your outfits shine this season by adding color and texture. Follow these tips and you will easily look modern and trendy while standing out from the drab days and crowd.

Heavy Metal
Metallics are back this season, but in a more subdued way. Instead of the bright golds and silvers of seasons past, this winter it’s all about bronze, pewter, gun metal silver, and dark gold tones. Mix it up with different textures and intensities of metal to give your outfit extra interest.

Try adding a metallic bag or shoes to your everyday look. They are sure to give your outfit some snap during those gray days. Wear a metallic coat or strapy heels with your little black dress for a dramatic evening look. However you incorporate metal tones into your wardrobe, you are sure to turn heads.

Tight Spaces
Tights and leggings are the ultimate winter accessory. They can instantly add a jolt of color or texture to an otherwise mundane outfit. Not to mention the fact that they are the single most effective way of making your summer and fall skirts and dresses stretch into the winter months.

This winter it’s all about black leggings, black or nude fishnets, or patterned tights in classic colors such as black, navy, or cranberry. If you really want to pop, add turquoise tights to a black dress and shoes and you will be in with all of Hollywood’s fashionistas. Invest in a variety of colors and textures and get those legs out girls!

Boot-ylicious
To wear the cowboy boots this season or not to wear the cowboy boots. They were all the rage last winter, but this season 80’s inspired boots are in hot demand. Pair ankle boots with skirts dresses or skinny jeans for the ultimate 80’s chic look. Slouch boots can replace your cowboy boots, as they have low heels and look great with any skirt or dress or with your jeans tucked in to them. Boots are a great way to update your look without replacing your whole wardrobe.

No need to let the gray days get you down. Whether you add metallic clothes and accessories, funky tights or a new pair of boots to your wardrobe, make a point of adding something trendy to your closet this winter.

Choosing The Best Kind Of Mortgage

The kind of mortgage you choose when investing in real estate can determine your overall success. If you chose the wrong kind of mortgage you can end up losing your property. If you are buying a property and your intention is to rent it out the worst kind of mortgage you can get for that property is an ARM. An ARM means an adjustable rate mortgage. With these mortgages the interest rates can go up or down after a set period of time.

This time is called the adjustment period. The adjustment period can be from one to five years. If your renting out a property and the adjustment period comes up the rents may not cover the mortgage. The best kind of mortgage you can get if you interned to rent a property out is a fix rate mortgage. With a fix rate mortgage the payments stay the same during the life of the loan. When it comes to flipping a house, witch means buying a property with the intention to sell it as fast as you can for a profit. The best kind of mortgage you can get for this is an adjustable rate mortgages.

With an ARM you can chose to only pay the interest but it adds on to the principal, witch is good in a short term basis, but if it’s done long term it can send you to the poor house. The most important thing when investing in real estate is to know what plan you have for your properties. If you use the information you read about here it can help you pick the best mortgage to go along with the plan you choose.

A good web site where you can see more information on topics like this is Real Estate Facts which is highly recommended. Thank you and enjoy.

Search engines use the type of websites that are linked to your site, the number of sites and links, anchor text, as well as page title when evaluating off-page optima ion. To better achieve top rankings with the use of Off-page optimization you need to work on link building. Use more popular links to be linked to your websites. The more popular the site the better it is for you.

When possible use two way linking. Use web site directory submission to gain more off-page exposure to your site. And as with any form of SEO use keywords that directly relate to your site and that are common. People will be searching keywords and that is the purpose of SEO easy visibility via keywords. You could also use article marketing and blog marketing to generate more traffic to your site. Off-page optimization is simply using keywords from your site in other places to promote your site. Small Business Technology - What You Really Need

Overview
Technology is not the answer to all small business problems. You must deal with employee theft, salaries, credit, insurance, customer relations, cash flow and more. But in all of these areas and others the proper implementation of technology can save you time and money and enable you to work more efficiently. Remember, it is all about working smarter, not harder; information technology is supposed to serve that specific task. Here are some must have, low cost tools for your business:

Web Site
This is a low cost and efficient means to give you 24/7 customer support, sales and communication, not just in your geographic area, but around the world. Your Web site can even be a tool of internal communication for your employees. The big hype of making tons of money “over the Internet” is exaggerated, but your Web site can be an excellent communications and advertising tool — which leads to indirect profits — and even a direct money making tool if developed properly.

Email
Neater and cheaper than faxing, faster then FEDEX or the Post Office. Email is the premier tool for communications. For example, one of our client companies had telephone bills that reached into the thousands of dollars per month; their bill after implementing a simple email system was $68.00. They actually communicate more frequently, but email has cut down on expensive faxing costs.

Local Area Network (If You Have More Than 1 PC)
Increase productivity and communication within your company by networking all the computers in your office. With a network you only need one printer for 10 users, or one Internet connection for all; the days of a modem and printer at each PC are gone. Collaboration and communication within your office is vital, and if you always have to get up and share diskettes with others, you’re wasting a portion of your day just walking from desk to desk. Even a small network of two or three computers requires maintaining. In order to decide whether your support provider is a good choice, you should assess their familiarity with the different types of computer network:

Peer-to-Peer Network
In this type of network, no single machine is more important than any other machine. Each person decides which files will be shared with the network by setting permissions on a folder-by-folder basis, and each user may limit others in the workgroup from accessing portions of his or her hard drive.

While a peer-to-peer network can get the job done, especially in a small business, the main drawback is the volume of passwords and privileges that reside on each machine. In addition, having users access information off another user’s hard drive could slow down processing speeds. This type of network is only recommended for small, low traffic offices.

Server-based Network
A server-based network contains one or more computers that have a central management role in the network. Servers can control file storage, e-mail, printer access, Internet access, security management and backups. There are software packages available that allow you to set up a server-based network, such as Windows Server, LINUX or UNIX. Ideally, a server should be a dedicated machine that is not used by any employee for any other purpose.

For example, a server generally maintains a security database outlining who belongs to the network and what privileges each user has. Users can then access data from any networked machine, based on their individual passwords. Servers can also allow you to centralize your data, simplifying access and backup. Another server option is an “applications server,” which runs all the company software. This option can save money on software licensing agreements by limiting the number of people who can use a single program at any given moment.

One question to consider when using a server-based network is how fast you can access any backups of the server if the system crashes and you need to restore data.

Anti-Virus Software
Viruses will attack your computer systems. The only question is will you fight back. Protect your data! In the 21st century information more valuable than cash! An Anti-Virus program will alert you to a possible virus infection, and be able to get rid of the virus before significant damage occurs. Most modern anti-virus software programs will also protect you from other types of malware, including spyware, bots, and other such internet dangers.

Back-Up System
If your business catches fire, if your hard disk crashes, if your computer is stolen — where will your data be? Across the border? In 10 feet of water? Back it up, store it off-site and sleep soundly. A recent customer recently lost over 10,000 files (email, contracts, original artwork, etc.) none of which was backed up. We were hired to try to recover the missing information. Do you know what a headache it was to manually get back SOME of those lost files? Some businesses never recover all of their data and subsequently, go out of business.

Office Productivity Software
The most common software applications in all businesses are a word processor, spread sheet, database, desktop publishing, and presentation software. These basic business programs will enable you to create, edit and manage information, publish your own brochures, make your own newsletter, and make exciting presentations.

Other must have software products include:

Desktop Faxing: If you must fax, at least stay at your desk, instead of walking to a fax machine. And don’t print paper from your PC just to fax it. Fax right from your PC, it saves time and a few trees. A desktop faxing software installs a working fax machine as a printer on your computer so you never have to leave your desk.

Accounting Software: Save time, reduce mistakes and see instantly what your money is doing. Some accountants will give you a discount if you provide your financial information in computerized format. In selecting an accounting software, be sure to work closely with your accountant, your computer consultant and even your business bankers.

Contact Management: You used to rely on just a Rolodex but now you can track thousands of clients, potential customers, partners and associates with software. Also you can keep a record of every communication with clients to minimize mistakes.

Computer Hardware
None of this software does any good if you don’t have a good computer system. If your computer is old and not working efficiently then upgrade it or just buy a new one. An old computer that runs slower than your workers is more costly than upgrading or purchasing a new machine. Employees will always complain that they need a faster computer. Here is a simple test to determine if they genuinely need a new machine: Who waits for who? Does the worker wait for the computer, or does the computer wait for the worker? If the worker waits for the computer then (and only then) is it time to upgrade.

Technical Support
Where are you going to turn if you need technology help or advice? This is the million dollar question for many small businesses. In some cases, you might know someone that “knows computers.” While this can help in a pinch, your best bet is to rely on computer industry professionals. They can be more expensive than the kid next door but a reputable technology professional can save you much grief and aggravation in the future.

Hopefully, this article has given you a basis for understand what technology investments your business will need. Remember, you don’t need to buy all of them immediately, but eventually you will need to invest some of your hard earned money into computer systems that will make your life, and your business, better.

Put Me Out Of My Misery

Jesus please come quickly
Put me out of my misery
I don’t know every intricacy
Neither the full detail
Of what makes me be
However the status quo
Greatly discourages me
If you could uplift me kindly
Above, up, and out of this
I don’t care to remain in it
I wish not to name it
I certainly can’t deny it
I have often confronted it
Tried repeatedly to resolve it
Lived graciously through it
Received counsel about it
Prayed for miracles for it
Endeavored to turn it
In my heart scorned it
Silently endured it
Patiently bore it
Been run over by it
Could not quiet it
Can’t contain it
Tried not to quit
Believed the best about it
Yet I no longer can tolerate it
Therefore I invite your Presence
To boldly come impact and impart
Birth for me a brand new start
By Christ the resurrection
Bring to me some of heaven
Remove the vile, poison leaven
That corrupts and contaminates
Hinders me from walking straight
Thwarts my tenderness toward you
Makes me mean in all I say and do
Distorts what I know to be true
Precipitates nasty arguments too
God please do what you can do
Enlighten my darkness with light
Shine forth brilliant and bright
Relieve stress and tension tight
Visit me with power and might
Illuminate and provide insight
Get me through the darkest night
The depth of despair and plight
Cruel and cantankerous like a cobra
Send a wise mediator like Oprah
By the cross of Christ reconcile
Remove bitterness that does defile
Heal my heart so I won’t revile
Give me love unconditionally
Both for me and those most needy
Send your Holy Spirit’s anesthesia
To numb my pain inwardly
Restore my joy wholeheartedly
Turn my misery into victory
So I can arise triumphantly
To tirelessly help humanity
But now most importantly
Deliver me from my misery
Every fatal foe and calamity.

Search Engine Optimization 901– How the Search Engines Assign Rankings

Understanding how search engines assign rankings will better equip any website designer to be able to get higher rankings. Many factors determine assigned rankings from search engines. Keywords in the title, keyword usage throughout the web site (including uses on each individual web page), and keywords used in the description. HTML tags and the URL play a factory ensuring they are adequate with directories and file names.

The domain name, originality and ensuring that it directly relates to the site itself. The Pagerank weighs the importance of the website based on the quantity and quality of incoming links, using backlinks is an important factor as the more backlinks you have, the higher your pageranking will be. However, understand that search engine rankings are not assigned based the number of links to your site alone.

Many people have found ways to “cheat” the system and even beat the SEO, Google for example, says that the Pagerankings are only an estimated number because you can’t be sure who is cheating and who isn’t. Search engines have tried to decrease this by setting guidelines and rules for SEO but as with anything not everyone follows. The best guide to increase your search engine ranking is to follow the guidelines of that search engine and use the keywords the way the suggest you to.

This will improve your ranking and will aid in more traffic coming to your site. Search engine optimization is a great tool for marketing, when used correctly the Pageranking does provide more positive traffic to you. Make sure you perform research and understand the guidelines of a particular search engine before you begin.

The Wine Rack Table - The Height Of Functionality

In the spirit of comfortably decorating our homes, the ability to combine form with function goes a long way towards making our job much easier. And for those with smaller living environments, the inclusion of furniture that serves a dual function can be enormously helpful. For those who enjoy wine as a beverage and a hobby, the purchase of a wine rack table can display wine bottles beautifully and still function with the utmost efficiency.

Choosing a wine rack table depends largely on your personal style, space considerations, and budget. A smaller wine rack table can fit in a corner and hold several wine bottles underneath it, maximizing space and providing vertical storage. The flat top provides an extra space from which to serve drinks. For additional storage, choose a wine rack table that provides space for some stemware pieces and additional barware such as a bottle opener.

If you have a larger space with which to work, then a lower, wider wine rack table may serve a number of purposes. While providing more space for a greater number of bottles than its smaller counterpart, this particular wine rack table also offers a larger horizontal table top for serving and enjoying cocktails. A wine rack table of this variety may also offer drawer space for efficiently storing barware accessories.

Also be sure to consider the overall style of your home when choosing a wine rack table. Manufacturers offer designs of every variety - from contemporary and country to antique and eclectic. The materials of each wine rack table differ largely as well - from solid wood of every variety, to metal and wrought iron. Choose a wine rack table based on your needs as a wine enthusiast, as well as how the particular table will function within your room as piece of furniture and as a decorative item.

Begin your search for the perfect wine rack table by exploring local home improvement stores, furniture stores, and large retail outlets that display a variety of home goods. You will find a range of styles, sizes, and prices so do your homework before you purchase.

A beautiful wine rack table can add sophistication, organization, and functionality to your home, allowing you to display your wine with style.
