Some Ways To Celebrate Veterans Day

This Veterans Day will be a time you can really use to honor those who have served in the armed forces during times of war. Certainly going into service is a duty and can be a heavy weight to bear under stress. Many of those celebrated on this day each year have been in war and have seen what it can do, so they’re memories and experiences serve as valuable reminders and reasons why we should all be aware of their sacrifices.

How can you appropriately honor this effort put forth during war? Most veterans will say you can honor them by remembering, spending time during this day with them or going to one of the many memorials around the country. You can easily pick up some flowers or go and freshen up a gravesite. Even if you go to a site commemorating one of the wars long past you’ll be celebrating this Veterans Day appropriately.

If you have living relatives who are veterans surprise them with a party in their honor. Create a guest list with all their pals and relatives on it and hold the party in a large outdoor area so everyone can enjoy the air. Those with large numbers of guests coming to their parties can turn it into a potluck and tell guests to bring samplings of their own favorite foods to give all a chance to try new things. You’ll be able to provide paper supplies themed after Veterans Day that feature the nation’s flag or a view of the armed forces. You may need lots of cups and plates for the affair because guests tend to throw them out after one use.

However you choose to celebrate this special day, the most important element is taking a little time to remember what it’s all about.

A Valentines Day History

Valentines Day, also known as St. Valentines Day, is an almost world wide holiday celebrated even in Japan and Africa, amongst many others . This holiday, originated well over a thousand years ago in Europe, is held in celebration of Saint Valentine. Well, actually there were several founders, all martyrs of Christianity with the same name. No one knows exactly why they are celebrated, and even Pope Gelasius I who started the holiday in 496 A.D. only says they were great men whose deeds where known only to god. The idea of two lovers celebrating romance came in much late later near the 14th century probably to make up for the vagueness of the celebration or at least that was the first time it was associated with love in one of Geoffrey Chaucer’s poems.

Regardless of where this lovely holiday came from, nowadays it is practically the second most celebrated holiday right after Christmas, according to greeting card sales. The main theme of Valentines Day is hearts, lots and lots of red and pink hearts floating about everywhere. You could also throw in a cupid or two aiming a heart shaped arrow at someone. The best and most prominent way to celebrate Valentines Day is to send a valentine to close friends and families as well as anyone you may have fallen in love with. This usually consists of a Valentines card, and chocolate or flowers. Handmade Valentines are preferable, though store-bought is certainly good enough if you need a lot of Valentines.

A lot of people choose to go on a date for Valentines dinner, but for lunch with friends and family you could try to hold a small party. Just make sure to have plenty of paper plates and plastic cups, and utensils so that you can clean up quickly to have time for later. You may want to purchase a heart shaped bracelet or necklace as a gift as well.

Honda Refreshes IT Systems Before F1 Season Starts

Formula 1 is one of the most exciting motor sports around. Different teams vie for the constructor’s championship. To help them achieve this feat, everything has to be in place.

Every system must be checked carefully in order for teams to perform at their highest level during each and every race of a season. From the drivers to their cars to the crew, everything should be prepared for well before a season starts or before a race begins.

The start of the new F1 season is coming closer, and in connection with this, the Honda Racing Formula One team has replaced their IT systems. Later this month, the step taken by the team will ensure that the technology they are going to use will not be prone to breakdowns or malfunctions.

A team’s IT system goes wherever the race goes. They should be at hand since these systems play a major role for the team and for the whole race. Since these equipments go along with the rest of the race crews and drivers, they are exposed to heat, cold, dust, noise, and vibrations from different racetracks all over the world. This is the reason why IT systems are replaced every two years. This is needed since the races take the drivers, cars, crews, and the IT systems all over the world. See, some countries that the F1 Grand Prix visits each year are Australia, Bahrain, Canada, England, Brazil, Malaysia, and the U.S.

Honda’s IT director, David France, said that “the equipment is vital to get data from the cars and make it immediately available for trackside analysis.” He also did add, “There must also be connectivity to the main factory to enable a data exchange with our strategic systems. We will be replacing everything, from the servers to the switches, routers, and laptops for staff.”

The data that the IT systems hold are very vital to ensure optimum performance of the car. Some of the data that it gets from the race car is the amount of fuel left and this is a vital piece of information since in Formula One racing, one of the strategies used to get ahead of the competition is the number of stops a car has to make to refuel. The brakes are also checked by the system, this is also vital to protect the car and the driver from meeting an accident on the track.

In addition to the restructuring of their IT system, Honda has also released the design for their new cars and will also launch a website to support it. The site will be available in a few weeks before the start of the new season later this month. “The IT department was brought in five weeks ago to develop the site,” says France. “Pipex has hosted our site for several years and was asked to develop the new site,” he added further.

Pipex Communications PLC is a British company which specializes on internet and telecommunications solutions. The company has moved the new sites to another location in order to increase bandwidth. This will translate continuous availability, faster speed, better security and support.

Mark Blower, an analyst for the Butler Group, commented that F1 teams uses technology for leverage. “It is critical that data is available all the time so the infrastructure must be robust and resilient and must be replaced before it breaks,” says Blower. “Cost is not as much of an issue as it is in other commercial environments. Because Honda has a mobile infrastructure, it should be easier to simply remove and replace existing equipment,” Blower added further.

Thanksgiving - A Holiday History

Thanksgiving Day is one of the largest holidays celebrated in America, and therefore is one people are most likely to notice if you’ve planned it poorly. The history of this particular holiday is quite well known and is taught for several consecutive years in elementary and middle school, so it is imperative to not make a fool of yourself by not knowing why this holiday came to be. Way back on December 4th, 1619 the Virginia colony held what is considered the first thanksgiving celebration for the harvest they received that year. However, this was not considered a true thanksgiving, as harvest festivals were fairly common back in Europe. The first true thanksgiving festival was in 1623 to celebrate a rain shower that had occurred after a long draught. Sometime during the mid-17th century this evolved into an annual tradition. This is now celebrated on the fourth Thursday of December.

So now you know some of the history, but the most important part of this or any holiday is how to celebrate it. Mainly with food, since this is a harvest holiday food is the most important thing to have. If you intend to cook the traditional turkey dinner you need to prepare at least a day in advance as turkeys take an extremely long time to cook. As well as the need to add stuffing and preparing various pies such as pumpkin, which is also quite popular. If you intend to purchase precooked meals however this stage is less important.

Setting up the theme would be the next step. Orange, brown, and red are all good colors to use, but just take a look outside at the fall scenery if you need any more ideas. You may wish to buy some common party supplies, such as paper plates, napkins, and plastic forks, spoons, and knives. Even paper table clothes, as it will make clean up afterwards a lot easier. The decorations could include wall hangings, pilgrim hats, streamers, and banners, but most importantly don’t forget to pick up the paper turkey table centerpiece.

Some St. Patricks Day History

St. Patrick’s Day is one of the most popular green holidays you can come across. This holiday came all the way from Ireland to celebrate, obviously, St. Patrick, the enemy of snakes everywhere. St Patrick is the patron saint of Ireland and is accredited with the conversion of Ireland over to Christianity during the second half of the 5th century. This is an unofficial holiday that is quite popular in the U.S. The first celebration in the U.S was held in Boston on 1737 by the Charitable Irish Society, later it came to New York in 1766 when a Irish soldiers marched through the city.

However, it came to be this is still a popular festival and luckily very easy to theme. The main thing to know is that everything must be green. Chicago even went so far as to dye its river green in celebration. Gold is a secondary color, but is to be used very sparingly. Three and Four leaf clovers are the symbol of choice for St. Patrick’s day so of course anything with clovers on it will also add to the theme. Most people seem to think that alcohol is an integral part of the celebration so expect any adults to be asking for some, mainly beer.

There are many things you can purchase to enhance your celebration, but the main things you should include in any party are paper products, cups, plates, napkins, utensils, table clothes, all of these can be purchased in a disposable format to make cleaning much easier and usually they can have an Irish theme to them. Other things you can purchase include green top hats, themed stickers, Green glow sticks, bracelets, necklaces, mugs, and of course beer mug shaped sunglass for novelties sake. The real problem is knowing what not to get, though that is up to you to decide.

A Brief Rosh Hashanah Holiday Explanation

Each year Rosh Hashanah is celebrated as the Jewish New Year. Rather than the rowdy frolic of the New Year celebrated on every December 31st, this holiday is part of the special time of reflection on the past year. Each person takes the time to review how they behaved in the past year during the Ten Days of Awe that occur prior to Yom Kippur and Rosh Hashanah is the first day of these ten days.

During this time period there is a traditional blowing of the shofar in some communities. The shofar is a horn made from one of the horns of any kosher animal, except a cow. This horn can be quite beautiful and intricately shaped, though it usually only sounds three notes. In many communities this horn is blown every morning during the entire month. It is meant to ‘remind’ those that hear the horn they are being examined by God for their behavior in the past year.

Since this is the New Year in Jewish religion it also celebrates all of creation and the birth and binding of Isaac, who happened to be the longest lived of the Old Testament patriarchs and the only one who never left the land of Canaan. In general this holiday is celebrated with festive meals, prayers and self-examination.

Larger family meals are filled with many symbolic foods during Rosh Hashanah. Foods like apples and honey represent the sweetness of the New Year and can be made into many tasty dessert treats. Tongue meat and other meat from the head can be served in some places to literally symbolize, ‘the head of the new year.’ Lots of fruit is served up at the meal to help symbolize a fruitful New Year and other foods that are mentioned in the bible are served as well, such as Black Eyed Peas, Leeks, Dates, and Pomegranates.

A Brief Presidents Day History

President’s Day, contrary to its name didn’t really celebrate presidents in general. It instead was originally Washington’s birthday at the first and he was to some people the greatest president of the U.S. However, later on people started celebrating Lincoln’s birthday as well, and since they were both in the same month various states just decided to hold a celebration that combined the two days. This had various different names until around the 1980’s when it generally became known as President’s Day. However, this is not always the case, in some states such as in Virginia Washington’s home state, where it is still legally called George Washington’s Day. Other states do use it as a general purpose holiday to celebrate any president they happen to deem important, usually ones that came from the state in question.

Well, all that confusion aside, this is a fairly easy holiday to celebrate. Since not everyone agrees as to just whom to celebrate on this day you instead can simply celebrate the patriotic nature of the holiday. Anything traditionally associated with America is a good bet including flags, red, white, and blue colors, starts, stripes, politically natural posters, and the like are all good ideas. If you want you could even put up a wall scroll with all the presidents on it. As a final touch anything that shows the history of your community or country that has a long heritage can also be used though it’s not nearly as popular.

With any party there are of course things you can purchase to make things easier, such as paper plates, plastic cups and utensils, as well as table covers. These things are all but necessary for after party clean up, and can be easily found with a patriotic theme to them. Other things you can use to celebrate this day are top hats with stars and stripes, colored balloons, star shaped candles, and a large variety of others.

Firewall As Security Wall For Computer Protection

Firewalls are security programs for computers that work same as that of physical firewalls protecting them from external hazards things.
If an organization is using a network based environment then there is more chance of getting harm then a stand alone computer. So it is strictly recommended that there should be some security measures that will allow only the permitted things to get in and push unwanted stuff outwards. Even if the home computers uses internet surfing then intruders can easily make home in your computer files.
To avoid such harms and security problems, firewall concept is eve loved. This phenomenon works as just like of barrier to keep damaging forces away. Firewall works just near to the router program scanning out each packet coming to the destination whether it has to forward or not. Usually firewall programs are placed in the separate systems to avoid taking direct request at private network connections.
A lot of firewall products are available in the market that are providing some interesting and useful features like

-Record keeping facility

-Generating reports on regular intervals

-Alarming facility on any attack

-GUI based system

Working of Firewall:

Firewall works on three principles which data is permitted to come in and which not.
-Sorting out Packets

Data on the network is sent in the form packets from one computer to the other computer. So firewall is aiming at packets first, it starts filtering them and then send to the demanding computer and cast off all other packets.

-Proxy

Some proxy settings are done on the network computers by firewall programs. All the information coming from the internet resource is first checked by firewall then transmitted to the requested system.

-Assessment of Packets Content

Not whole of the content is checked by firewall programs but certain keywords are matched to the defined database information in the firewall. If keyword match found they packets are allowed inside the network otherwise they are discarded.

Online Survival Education And Training - The New Kid On The Block

Since 9/11, people have become much more inclined to seek out educational services and products related to survival and emergency preparedness. This does not present much a surprise. It seems like, since that dreaded day in New York in 2001, disaster has been followed by disaster. In the wake of terrorist attacks, hurricanes, earthquakes, tsunamis, and the like, we have come to realize our vulnerability-both at the hands of others and of nature itself. We have now come to understand that we need to be prepared for whatever may befall us in these uncertain times.

Of course the hardcore survivalists have been preaching preparedness for years but, unfortunately, many of this group stand on what, by the mainstream’s standard, would be considered “the fringe” and thus few people have taken them all that seriously. Who has time these days, after all, to live in the woods for extended periods of time honing their survival craft while preparing for the “soon coming apocalypse” while they have jobs to tend to and families to raise? Not me. Likely not you either.

There are options these days, however, for the individual serious about obtaining education and training in survival and emergency preparedness. For one, there are the traditional survival schools. Some offer military-styled survival training, others focus on more primitive skills, others offer a more eclectic approach.

For example, one of the best known survival schools is the Boulder Outdoor Survival School headquartered in Boulder, Colorado. BOSS has been around since 1968 and offers a comprehensive on-site curriculum in traditional living and survival. Interesting to note, the president and CEO of BOSS is the History Channel’s “Digging for the Truth” host, Josh Bernstein.

Such on-site schools are legion as any Google search will reveal, though not all of equal quality. You probably have one nearby or within a short driving distance from your present location. I recommend such training when practical for you but all too often it is the case that such is not practical for the average person. For one, such programs offer their training curricula on-site and this usually involves an absence from both work and home for, oftentimes, an extended period of time. Second of all, such programs tend to be quite expensive-beyond the reach of the average consumer. Third, the programs tend to focus solely on wilderness survival skills or general emergency preparedness, standard curricula rarely bringing the two together.

For emergency preparedness education and training, there are programs out there, perhaps one of the better known is the Community Emergency Response Team program (CERT). CERT training is typically sponsored by local civic groups (police departments, fire departments, etc.) and the training tends to focus on disasters that are likely to occur within a specific community or localized geographic context.

A recent development in survival and emergency preparedness education and training has been that of the implementation of a comprehensive online curriculum. Via online education and training more people than ever before now have access to a complete and comprehensive curriculum in both wilderness survival and emergency preparedness. There is only one company out there right now filling this niche, and I am very happy to be part of it. It is likely that this will be the new trend in survival training and emergency preparedness education for years to come. Though such training does not replace actual “hands on” learning, it definitely augments it and places such education in the hands of individuals who otherwise would not have access to it and it does so affordably.

For those of you interested in survival training and emergency preparedness, you have at your disposal today many options. There are books, there are videos, there are on-site training programs, and now online curricula. Research the various options and decide on which one best suits you and your particular goals and needs. But, by all means, prepare yourself. Your life or the life of your family may one day depend on it!
