How To Price Your Auto Detailing Services For Profit

Pricing your auto detailing services for profit can be a daunting task. Underpricing the detail work you offer to customers is the quickest way to go out of business. Every service you offer, from an exterior wash to engine cleaning has a fair market value (a price at which both buyers and sellers are willing to do business), attached to it. If your goal is to be near or the top of that scale as often as possible your professional skills should mirror the prices you charge.

Incorporating a professional looking price sheet that shows the customer your set prices makes it easier to get the price your skills call for. Many consumers think that it’s bargaining time if you just quote the price verbally without referring to a price sheet or at least something you looked up on the computer.

When pricing a detailing job first take into consideration the condition of the vehicle you’re asked to comfortable detail. Interior cleaning is one area that takes time, patience and thoroughness. An interior on one vehicle with a large soda stain on the front passenger seat might require two to three hours of time while another might only need an hour. Obviously, an SUV is going to require more of you and your pricing should reflect such. Let’s assume your price for an average size car is $150; most SUV owners understand that although bigger might be better, bigger also means costlier. And not just a bigger body, but bigger tires, rims and more cargo space. Most car trunks will usually just need a good vacuuming, but because in an SUV what would be considered the trunk might be used as play space for the kids or seating space, more cleaning is required, so raising your price $25 to $50 to account for additional cleaning will not only sound fair but very reasonable.

How do you price for profit? Understanding the value of your time (labor) is the first step. Factoring in the cost of supplies and equipment use is next. Last, but not least is your skills. Let’s begin with supplies and equipment.

Figuring the cost of supplies and equipment you’ll use is relatively simple. Soap, water, tire dressing, even towels (cleaning) have an expense attached to them. On average it will cost $5 to $7 in supplies to detail the average size vehicle. Jobs that require purchasing additional supplies can be priced accordingly. What most detailers forget to factor when pricing a detail is equipment cost. Not only does it cost to run the vacuum, but each time you plug in that hi-speed buffer consider the cost of electricity to operate it, then include the future expense of eventually replacing or upgrading. Sure, these expenses are small but keep in mind that updating your equipment and consistent inventory upkeep is what keeps your business growing.

How much is your time worth? That depends upon two things, the skills you’ve acquired and more importantly, your self-image. Whatever the going rate for a complete auto detail in your city, it should afford a professional detailer an annual salary in the $30,000 to $50,000 range assuming you operate year round. That means your time should translate into a minimum of $15 per hour. In many southern cities where winter temperature averages hover in the 40 to 50 degree range, it’s not hard to maintain a comfortably consistent income.

If you’re not comfortable using buffers or have not yet learned to clay a car, you are limiting your financial possibilities. Get trained. This is where your skills come into play. I once quoted a potential customer a complete detail price higher than what he was used to paying. When I mentioned waxing and buffing during my exploratory conversation with him he quickly said he did not want any type of buffer used on his car because of a previous bad experience. Once I explained to him the differences in buffers, the relative risks involved, and how the detailer’s experience comes into play when choosing and using orbital or high-speed buffers, he felt at ease enough to allow me to buff his car with a 16 pound orbital. Because I came across as knowledgeable, experienced and confident he felt comfortable paying a higher price.

I’ve found that the biggest obstacle to getting paid what a professional detailer thinks he should get paid largely depends on self-esteem. What makes one detailer think they can charge $225 when another detailer in the same market four blocks away is providing essentially the same service but charging $150? Self-esteem! What are the skills and experience you’ve acquired worth? $15 an hour, $25 an hour, or maybe you believe you’re worth even more!

It’s all up to you. Pricing your services is an art. With each quote consider the condition of the vehicle, your costs, your skills, your knowledge, your experience. But most of all, consider your time. You’re worth what you believe you’re worth!

Shrek 1 And 2

There is very little to say about these films that you probably don’t already know. Shrek is that lovable ogre who likes to be scary but rarely is. The films are made by DreamWorks and both of them [Shrek 1 and Shrek 2] can be watched either alone or together. Both films are captivating and of loveable quality. Watch with your children without feeling guilty. Oh, and have a good laugh while you are there (as well as booing the bad guys).

It features up-to-date and captivating animation which is noted for its detail and quality. There are voiceovers by famous people such as Mike Myers and Eddie Murphy. The latter plays the annoying donkey. And, despite his annoying traits, who could fail to love the donkey and want to take him home? Add to this the fact that the soundtrack is great as well and you have the perfect recipe for a great couple of films.

Although set in past times, it is up to date in its feel and character. The overall moral is that beauty is in the eye of the beholder and Shrek, the ugly ogre, falls for the princess who is also an ogre. You cannot fail to love all of the characters but especially the ogre and the irritating donkey.

Certainly suitable for children of all ages plus adults will love it. This has got to be one of the best movies for years and one that, I will bet, no child will ever say was not worthy of watching again and again.

Unusually for a sequel, Shrek 2 is equally watchable and a perfect companion to the first movie.

Guggul - Herbal Remedies To Lower Cholesterol

General Description

The guggul tree (sometimes spelt as ‘guggulu’) is an indigenous Indian tree which found abundantly in the temperate climates of north India. It is a small shrub, not more than 4 meters in height. It has a thin bark with thorny branches and trifoliate leaves. It has red or pink flowers with four petals each.

The gum of the guggul tree is used extensively in Ayurvedic medicine. This gum is a yellowing resinous substance that is obtained from the stem of the guggul plant. The guggul plant is very well established in Ayurveda. Even in Sushruta Samhita, one of the most detailed works on Ayurvedic medicine, the virtues of the guggul in the treatment of obesity and rheumatism are recorded. Guggul is commercially available for the treatment of cholesterol and triglyceride deposits in the body. Western research has proven that guggulsterone, a chemical available in the guggul gum is the main beneficial factor in lowering cholesterol. Guggulipid, an extract of the guggul gum is also effective in lowering blood cholesterol.

The guggul is famous in the west with the name mukul myrrh tree. Biologically, it is named Commiphora wightii or Commiphora mukul. In Ayurveda, guggul is rarely taken in its pure form. Whenever it is prescribed for direct oral medication, the guggul needs to be purified. This method of purifying the guggul herb is known as the shodhana. Shodhana is done by boiling the herb in either cow’s milk or its urine. This makes the drug more acceptable to the human body, but it reduces its volatile oil content and hence makes the drug a little less effective in therapeutic terms.

Properties

Guggul is known to have the following properties:-

(i) Guggul disintegrates the cholesterol accumulated in the body. Hence it is used in the treatment of various cardiovascular problems.

(ii) Guggul flushes out the toxins from the body and promotes easy digestion of foods. It has a mild laxative effect.

(iii) Guggul is known to be a liver stimulator.

(iv) Guggul purifies the blood.

(v) Guggul has a treating effect on the nervous system.

Uses

(i) Cervical Spondylosis

Cervical spondylosis is a special type of arthritis which affects the cervical vertebrae, i.e. the vertebrae of the neck region. For the treatment of this disease, guggul is by far the best remedy. It is used in the form of its preparation Simhanada Guggul. The dosage prescribed for the patients is two to four tablets twice a day, followed by a glass of hot water or milk. Due to its laxative effect, it also removes the ama, i.e. the toxic buildup of waste materials in the body. If the bowels move in a regular fashion, the pains of spondylosis are very much reduced. In fact it is only after treating constipation first that any medication for the spondylosis would work.

(ii) Constipation

Guggul is a laxative. It facilitates the movement of the bowels and keeps the digestive system clean.

(iii) Obesity

Guggul is used primarily in the treatment of obesity. It is used in a very unconventional way. The gum resin of the guggul is used to make incense sticks. These are lighted and the fumes are inhaled. Guggul can also be given internally for obese people. Both Navaka Guggul and Triphala Guggul are effective in the treatment of obesity.

(iv) Rheumatism

Yogaraj Guggul is extensively used in the treatment of rheumatism. Two to four tablets twice a day need to be taken. The dose must be followed by a glass of hot water or milk.

(v) Sciatica

Guggul is very effective in treating problems related to the nervous system. It is given to the patient of sciatica in the form of Yogaraja Guggul, of which guggul is the main ingredient. The dosage is two tablets four times a day along with warm milk or water.

Special Ayurvedic Preparations

(i) Guggul Tiktaka ghrita

Guggul Tiktata ghrita is elaborately prepared by boiling guggul in a special kind of butter.

(ii) Navaka Guggul

Navaka Guggul is a combination of guggul with other important herbs. It is generally used in weight loss.

(iii) Simhanada Guggul

Simhanada Guggul is a preparation with guggul with the main ingredient which is used as treatment for cervical spondylosis.

(iv) Triphala Guggul

Triphala Guggul is a compound extract (of triphala) to which guggul is added.

(v) Yogaraja Guggul

Yogaraja Guggul is a very special preparation with guggul as the main ingredient. It is a mixture of about twenty powder extracts, among which guggul is the chief ingredient. It is used as a carminative, for lowering cholesterol and as an antipyretic.

Apart from these, there are many other guggul preparations being widely used such as Gokshuradi Guggul, Salai Guggul, Amrutadi Guggul, Kaishora Guggul, Kanchanara Guggul, Trayodashanga Guggul and Maha Yogaraja Guggul.

Precautions

The use of guggul must always be done under the supervision of an Ayurvedic physician. Excess of guggul almost always causes a rash on the body. But there are other more serious problems associated with an over-intake of guggul. For one, guggul interferes with the liver functions. Hence people with liver conditions must not use guggul. Guggul is used in the treatment of digestive problems. But an excess of guggul can worsen the conditions. People having constant problems such as diarrhea and inflammatory bowel disorder must avoid taking guggul.

Hair Loss Remedies - Simple Ayurvedic Treatments

Hair loss is one of the most embarrassing problem facing most men and women in the world today. It is a common notion that hair loss occurs normally with advancing age, and nothing can be done about that. But that is a wrong belief. There are several effective ways in which hair loss and other hair related problems can be nipped in the bud. The following are some of the most effective home remedies in which this can be achieved.

Treatment with Simple Home Remedies

Remedy # 1

This remedy works if your hair are continuously breaking off and falling. Extract the juice of a single lemon. Finely grind the powder of the root of a banyan tree and mix thoroughly in the lemon juice. Wash your hair with this solution. When done, dry your hair with a drier and then apply more than the normal amount of coconut oil on the scalp. Do this regularly. Within a few days you will find the quality of your hair improving.

Remedy # 2

Prepare the fine powder of the amalaki (Indian Gooseberry) and soak it in water. Keep this overnight. In the morning, squash the powder in the water and let it exude thoroughly into the water. You will get a mild pasty consistency. Then squeeze the juice of a lemon or two. Use this vitamin C rich solution to wash your hair. The solution will foam. Work your hands into the roots of the hair till the foam is profuse. After fifteen minutes of this treatment, you can wash it off. This kind of treatment will not only treat hair loss, but it will also make the hair blacker, denser, longer and softer. A month of this treatment on a daily basis will show you the positive results.

Remedy # 3

Boil some udad daal (lentils) in water. When boiled enough, let them cool. Then mash the daal and apply it vigorously on the hair, working at the roots. This treatment provides proteins to your hair, which is very necessary for their proper growth. Within a few days of this continuous treatment, your hair loss problems will begin to dwindle.

Remedy # 4

This treatment works for alopecia, i.e. baldness or thinness of hair. Take a dry ripe amalaki fruit and grind it to a powder. Put this powder in coconut oil or chameli (Jasminum grandiflorum, Spanish Jasmine) oil. Use this oil to massage the scalp. Then put this solution in water and wash the hair thoroughly. Continue this for a month to observe benefits. You must also chew on the dry amalaki fruit several times a day.

Remedy # 5

If your hair is thinning out, then the following remedy can help. Prepare a mixture of the powders of the seeds, leaves and peel of a pomegranate. Add this to mustard oil. Keep it on a flame. The powders will begin to get cooked. When the powders seem cooked enough, then strain the oil through a cloth and collect the filtrate in a bottle. Cork this bottle. Apply this oil twice or thrice on the scalp in a day. Within a few days, hair loss will stop and new hair will begin growing.

Remedy # 6

Grind some green coriander and extract the juices from it. Use these juices to massage onto the scalp. This will make your hair soft and black and stop hair loss. This remedy is simple but it is so effective that it can even make hair grow back on the scalp. Hence it is looked upon as a treatment for alopecia.

Remedy # 7

This is not a specific remedy, but it is a general method to care for your hair to stop hair loss in the future. Collect one tablespoon of powder of shikakai (Acacia concinna, acacia) and ritha (Sapindus mukorossi, soapnut). Add this powder to half pint of water and boil it. When the boiling has taken place properly, then cool it, strain it, and use the filtrate as you would use a regular shampoo. This is the best natural shampoo in the world, and perhaps the world’s oldest pH balanced shampoo. Daily using this shampoo will keep all hair loss problems at bay.

Treatment with Special Ayurvedic Methods

Bhringaraja is the drug of choice for hair problems. It is either taken orally or is used for massaging the scalp on a daily basis in the form of Maha Bhringaraja taila or Nilibhringadi taila. The general mode of using it is to massage on the scalp thoroughly and then to have a bath one hour later. But it must be remembered that Bhringaraja will first remove the weak hair from the scalp. Hence it may appear that the hair is thinning more in the beginning. This is temporary though; the new hair that will grow will be healthier and stronger.

Hair loss (and in fact, all problems relating to hair) are kapha problems. They happen when the kapha dosha is vitiated. Hence, kapha must not be allowed to accumulate in the body. This happens when there is a common cold. For this reason, common colds must be treated quickly. The same can be said about sinusitis.

Making Tea 1 - How to Brew a Great Cuppa

It is amazing how few people know how to brew the kind of refreshing, invigorating tea enjoyed by the English-speaking world for a couple of centuries. This is by far the best way for strong black teas such as Assam from India, Ceylon from Sri Lanka and blends like English Breakfast.

These teas are dark in colour with a strong tea aroma and are made up of small pieces of broken leaf. They have been withered and air-dried to develop the distinctive colour and flavour, which gives them a high content of the stimulants theophylline and caffeine. They must be infused with really boiling water for a short time, and develop a very unpleasant bitter or stewed flavour if brewed too long.

The critical factors are quality equipment and materials, cleanliness and maximum flavour extraction. That means you must have really hot water and stir the pot! The method given here is simple and reliable, but can always be varied to suit individual tastes.

You will need:

  1. Good quality, fresh strong black tea
  2. Heavy china teapot with a good spout
  3. Fresh, clean, soft water
  4. Kettle, electric preferred
  5. Tea strainer, stainless steel with fine mesh preferred
  6. China cups or mugs, preferably 200ml or larger
  7. Skim or low fat milk (optional)
  8. Tea cosy to keep teapot warm (optional).

I have not mentioned lemon, sugar or teaspoons since these are all quite unnecessary to enjoy good tea. The teapot, kettle and strainer must be clean as any residues from previous use will affect the flavour.

How to proceed:

  1. Put the water on to boil: about 1 cup (250ml) per person, plus 1.
  2. Pre-heat the teapot by pouring a little very hot water in it from the kettle, just before the water boils. The teapot should feel very hot to the touch.
  3. As the water reaches the boil, pour the hot water out of the teapot.
  4. Add tea to pot: one good, heaped teaspoonful (about 4g) per person, plus one “for the pot”.
  5. Pour the boiling water directly onto the tea.
  6. Stir vigorously with a spoon. Most of the flavour is extracted during these first few seconds, so this step is crucial.
  7. Leave to stand for 3-4 minutes. Any longer and the tannins will start to be extracted, giving the tea that woody or stewed flavour. Cover teapot with tea cosy if room is cold or draughty.
  8. Pour a small quantity of skim milk into each cup (if liked). About 1 tablespoon or 20ml is enough. If there is only full cream milk, use less.
  9. Pour the tea into each cup using the strainer to catch leaves (there should be a few).

All the tea should be poured at once, leaving a little in the pot. Second cups are never as good as the first, so aim to make that first cup large enough!

The tea as poured should be a deep coppery brown, and even with milk added should be a rich coppery brown rather than milky white. The tea in the cup (or mug) should be drinkable for 20 minutes or so, and this time can be extended by covering the cup with a lid.

For a variation, use twice the amount of tea and an even shorter brewing time. This stuff has a real kick!
Enjoy!

Lower Cholesterol Through Ayurvedic Treatments

Cholesterol is quite easily the top of the list of killers among the human race in the world today. An excess of cholesterol can produce extremely fatal cardiovascular conditions such as atherosclerosis, heart aches, heart attacks, high blood pressure, etc. If a person has begun accumulating cholesterol in his or her arteries, then it might well be a way of inviting death.

A common misconception is that all kinds of fats can cause cholesterol buildup. But this is very far from the truth. In fact, only saturated fats and trans-fatty acids are responsible in building up cholesterol in the arteries. Whereas, cholesterol obtained from the monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fatty acids such as from nuts and cool water fishes are useful to the body, and they can bring the level of the harmful cholesterol down.

Even if the cholesterol has built up in the body, it can be certainly brought down using proper herbal techniques, as described in Ayurveda. This article is written with the purpose of enlightening you with some of the most potential remedies that Ayurveda describes for treating cholesterol and also some simple home remedies which also achieve the same task.

Treatment with Simple Home Remedies

Remedy # 1

You cannot even dream of reducing cholesterol without first making a determination to stick to a particular regimen. If your cholesterol levels are high, then you must immediately and strictly obey the following guidelines:-

§ Stop the consumption of all fattening foods, which contain saturated and trans-fatty acids. These include all the hydrogenated oils, creams and chocolates.
§ Increase the consumption of fish such as salmon, sardines and mackerel and nuts. Always insist on one bitter dish per meal. It could be fenugreek, bitter gourd or bitter drumstick.
§ If you are overweight, enroll in a weight loss program. Keep yourself active and exercise often, according to the capacity of your body.
§ If you are an alcoholic, stop! If you are a smoker, desist! Alcoholism and smoking are lethal in people with high cholesterol.

Remedy # 2

Oranges are very beneficial to eliminate cholesterol because of their high vitamin C content. Sticking to a diet of only orange juice for a day is really beneficial.

Remedy # 3

Watermelon is very beneficial in treating high blood pressure that has been caused due to excessive cholesterol levels. Cut a whole watermelon and rub rock salt and black pepper on its slices. Then extract the juice of this watermelon and drink it. Within three or four days, the levels of the cholesterol will go down and the high blood pressure will also become normal.

Remedy # 4

Crush some coriander and then put it in a cup of water. Warm it so that the juices of the coriander exude out into the water properly. Then cool it and drink this coriander water. Doing this everyday for about a month will bring the cholesterol levels back to normal.

Remedy # 5

Every morning when you wake up, eat two to three cloves of garlic. If you cannot bear the sulfurous taste of the garlic, then you can roast them in a little amount of castor oil. Eat these cloves by biting them and chewing upon them fast. Eat them on an empty stomach each day. This seems to be a very simple thing to do (apart from the pungent taste of the garlic cloves, of course!) but it is proven even by western scientists to have amazing effects in the treatment of cholesterol.

Remedy # 6

Every night before retiring, have a cup of warm water with five grams of Triphala choorna in it. Triphala contains the three great herbs - amalaki (Emblica officinalis), bibhitaki (Terminalia belerica) and haritaki (Terminalia chebula). All these three have been individually proved to have powers of dissolving serum cholesterol. Amalaki is very rich in vitamin C, which is the best known nutrient for the natural dissolution of cholesterol in the blood.

Remedy # 7

Mix equal proportions of Bishop’s weed seeds, cumin seeds and sugar. Grind them to a fine powder in a mixer grinder. Take one teaspoonful of this powder twice a day with water. This is a safe remedy even for pregnant women, and it shows good results in them.

Remedy # 8

Put a single clove of garlic in one glass of milk. Bring it to a boil. Drink this garlic milk when it is still a little warm. Drinking this continuously for a week will surely bring the level of the cholesterol down.

Remedy # 9

Take two teaspoons of honey and mix one teaspoon of lemon juice in it. Drinking this juice twice a day helps to dissolve the cholesterol from the arteries.

Treatment with Special Ayurvedic Methods

Arjuna is the Ayurvedic drug of choice for the elimination of cholesterol. The bark of the arjuna is prescribed to the patient in powder form, or in the form of its various decoctions with other herbs. The general dosage is one gram of powder four times a day. The vehicle to take this drug is either ghee, milk or honey; depending on which dosha is predominant in the body of the person. Ayurvedic doctors may also prescribe Arjunarishta, which is a preparation of arjuna mixed in special butters or ghee.

Friends 1994 - 2003

Perhaps in every living room in America and beyond, Friends is well known for a timeless quality and air of freedom, camaraderie and acceptance. The only reason the episodes have become dated is simply because the have been going for so long. Typecasting is difficult to avoid.

This is the story of a group of friends who often live together, work together, and play together. Their motto in life is to have fun and to show everybody they are doing so. The Friends series is loved by all including children, and the stories have a quaint and timeless quality that everyone will continue to love.

Some of the jokes are a bit risque, but I think even your mother would approve. I would avoid small children watching as they would not understand. Slightly older children would ask difficult questions such as “what ARE they doing, mummy” and “what does gay mean” but other than this, it seems reasonable for all to watch and digest.

The stories include six friends — Joey, Ross, Chandler, Rachel, Monica, and Phoebe. There are plenty of laughs and plenty of tears; and although some of the jokes might be beyond some of us, most of them will get a laugh.

As funny as it may seem, there are some good messages in the anecdotes presented. Yes, life is for living, but friends are important at every step of the way.

Not only are the main characters great fun but also they appeal to the eye in more ways than one. There are plenty of innuendos and open jokes. Luckily the TV series is now easily available on DVDs, so you can capture those moments again and again.

Compounding Effect - A Lesson on How Money Makes Money

If only I had learnt about the compounding effect of money when I was a teenager. I had heard of the seven wonders of the world, but no one ever told me about the eighth wonder, the effect of compounding. Not matter if you are young or slightly older, read on to discover how money can make money.

The compounding of interest earned is one of the most critical lessons that should be learnt by everyone. To explain the effect of compounding I will use a brief example. If you take $10,000 and receive 6% interest over one year you will receive $600. If you reinvest the $10,600 in year two, you will receive $636 interest. In year 3 you will receive $674 interest and this amount increases each year, so long as you re-invest the capital and interest each year.

The next step and even more effective way to use the compounding of interest is to contribute additional money, for example $100, each month to the capital and interest amounts. This will assist in fast tracking your wealth more quickly and has the effect of growing your capital amount at a rapid rate.

Instead of the investor earning interest on principal, they earn interest on principal and interest, year after year after year.

If you start early in life, this can have a dramatic effect on the capital growth over time. If an 18 year old invests $100 per month and earns 6% interest until the age of 65, they will have accumulated $313,187. They would have invested $56,400 in this time, a profit of $256,787. However if the same person started investing at 25 years of age, they will have accumulated only $199,149. They will have invested $48,000 in this time. So by starting 7 years earlier and investing $8,400 more (7 years x $100/month) they will have accumulated $114,038 more at 65 years.

It is crucial that we teach the compounding effect to everyone in our lives as it is THE KEY to future financial success for most of us. For the sake of some short term pain by putting away some money, we can experience terrific long-term gain. Do not be tempted to withdraw from the interest earned each year as this will negate the effect of compounding and will limit success with this strategy.

One of the best things about the effect of compounding interest is that it does not discriminate - EVERYBODY can do it, no matter whether you are rich or poor or where you live in the world. The big decision is when to start and I urge you all to start today.

You can read more information about the affect of compounding and see some great tables that clearly illustrate the effect of compounding at http://www.achievesuccess.com.au/money/compounding_effect.htm

If it is wealth creation opportunities you are after then check out the life-changing information at http://www.achievesuccess.com.au/money

Start compounding your interest today and make the most of this 8th wonder in the world.

Terminalia Arjuna - Complete Heart Tonic

General Description

Arjuna is a tall tree which is very valuable in Ayurvedic medicine. It has been recorded since very old times when it was referred to as nadisarja and was used as a cardiac tonic. The great Indian proponent of ancient medicine, Vagabhatta, was the first to use the bark of the arjuna for heart ailments.

The arjuna is indigenous to India, but is also found in Myanmar and Sri Lanka. It is found mostly near marshy areas. It can reach up to a height of 20 to 27 meters. Its binomial name is Terminalia arjuna.

All parts of the arjuna are important in Ayurvedic medicine. Its bark is the most valuable, which gives a milky white sap when cut. The bark contains a valuable alkaloid, which is named as the arjunine. Other chemicals in arjuna are arjunetin, lactone, sugars and several essential oils.

Properties

The following properties of arjuna make it indispensable in Ayurvedic medicine:-

(i) Arjuna has cooling and tonic effects, and hence it is invaluably used as a cardiac stimulant.

(ii) Arjuna helps in blood clotting. So it can be used in arresting bleeding.

(iii) Arjuna is a diuretic. It is used in removing calculi, which are kidney and urinary stones.

(iv) Arjuna improves the secretion and function of the bile in the body.

(v) Arjuna has astringent properties.

(vi) Arjuna is believed to be an aphrodisiac, but these properties are not yet studied conclusively.

Uses

Arjuna has been used in the following disorders:-

(i) Acne

Arjuna is potent in the healing of pimples. Here arjuna is used for external administration. The powdered bark is mixed with honey and applied on the pimples. This helps in the speedy recovery from acne.

(ii) Asthma

Arjuna is a good Ayurvedic remedy for asthmatic patients. The bark of the arjuna is finely powdered and stores in an airtight bottle. This powder is to be consumed after a fast which is broken by a mixture of condensed milk in rice, known as kheer. Twelve grams of the powder of the arjuna bark is to be sprinkled over the kheer. The person must sleep only twelve hours after eating this. This is considered to be a permanent solution for asthma.

(iii) Bone fractures

Six teaspoonfuls of this tonic are taken twice daily after meals with water in equal amounts. This is excellent remedy for hridaroga (heart diseases) due to all the three doshic imbalances, i.e. vataja, pittaja and kaphaja.
