“Just one more lap Paul,” stated my high school track coach. Just when you thought you had heard it all when it comes to getting in shape, you have not.
In high school I joined the track team in my senior year to prepare for football in college. A funny thing happened on the way to living my dreams as a student athlete in college, I had a passion for track.
My favorite event was the 400 meters and mile relay. I did quite well in college, however if the choice came between participating on the track team and getting good grades, I opted for good grades.
What about today? This is the question I have for you, what are you doing about your health today?
As for me, I decided to start 2007 with a bang. That is right, I decided to go on a diet and I am still on it. I lost 13 pounds since January and I owe it mostly to consistency.
For example, I get up every morning and stretch for 15 -20 minutes, then I lift weights, situps, and finish with suicides (continuous exercise until I cannot do anymore), I called this achievement exercises.
Since the weather has improved I am incorporating my walking program. I do not walk at a fast pace, I simply walk at a normal pace.
Research has proven, one only needs to walk at a regular pace to receive life extending benefits from walking. I have a long history of running that includes a half marathon, not bad for a sprint oriented individual such as myself.
I challenge you to get out of your bed, put your walking shoes on and get to stepping:). Do not attempt to walk fast, pick up the pace, accelerate, or walk run.
Why? You will not receive additional health benefits by running. It may seem funny in the beginning, however you will get the hang of it because you have been doing it most of your life.
One more point for you to consider, hydrate before you walk. Exercising without proper hydration is not good over the long haul.
My goal this year is to lose 60 pounds. I have 47 pounds to go and walking will help me achieve my goal. Here is to your heath and mine.
