Free Yourself From Arthritis Pain Now With These Tips

There is a little-known natural solution to curing oneself of arthritis pain, which I discovered several years ago. During my nursing career I was never able to find relief for my arthritis pain until I turned to the field considered natural or alternative medicine.

To get the arthritis pain relief you’re seeking it’s helpful to understand how arthritis works. Arthritic joints appear to be larger, are stiff and painful, and usually feel worse the more they are used as the day progresses. Arthritis pain can be experienced whenever a stiff or swollen joint is used.

The cartilage is slippery tissue that coats the ends of the bones. In young people, cartilage is about 85% water and in older folks about 70% of cartilage is water. The ability to make repairs to cartilage becomes limited as cartilage cells age.

Researchers report a higher incidence of osteoarthritis between parents and children or between siblings than between husbands and wives. The cause of arthritis (osteoarthritis) and the factors leading to the deterioration of cartilage in osteoarthritis is still not understood. Possible causes of arthritis include lesser known: bleeding disorders, like hemophilia, which causes bleeding to occur in the joint; disorders such as avascular necrosis, that block the blood supply closest to the joint; and conditions like hemochromatosis, that causes iron build-up in the joints.

Some people swear by morning drinks of raw apple cider vinegar and honey for arthritis pain relief. Try avoiding the eight most allergic foods, wheat being the most allergenic; they are wheat, corn, eggs, milk, peanuts, fish, shellfish and some nuts, not all. Some people swear by glucosamine and/or chondroitin and others say it didn’t help at all.

Many have told me that going off dairy products and gluten containing foods relieved their arthritis pain entirely. Making a ginger tea, by adding a thin slice or two of fresh gingerroot to hot water, is helpful to many people I know. For snacks, choose raw nuts without salt instead of lifeless roasted nuts.

The first step in managing your arthritis is to change your diet; I think all experts would agree on this. Dried Montmorency tart cherries seem to be helpful for arthritis pain also.

Make smoothies with fruit only using a base of two bananas, adding a cup of frozen or fresh blueberries and mango chunks or substitute any other fruit and add an energy boost of two tablespoons of coconut oil; add one or two leaves of kale for another highly nutritional boost — no one will ever know. Many arthritis sufferers have changed their diets and noticed significant or total improvement.

Even the lightest exercise can go a long way to maintaining your joint mobility and overall health. Sign up for water aerobics classes at your local community center. If weight is an issue, try to use exercises that will help you in losing weight such as walking. A good exercise routine is the key to beating arthritis and arthritis pain.

Keep a bedside basket of arthritic aids for arthritic hands (theraputty, hand grips, Taiji chime balls, etc.) to be used at bedtime or while watching television. Fight arthritis through proper exercise! Stretching and warming up the joints should always be the first step in your exercise routine to make your joints more flexible.

Only you know which treatment option is best for you. Drugs commonly used for arthritis pain can cause ulcers, heart disease and liver or kidney damage.

Let your doctor and pharmacist know about any other drugs, herbs or other supplements you’re taking, to ward off any adverse drug reactions that might occur from the combining of different drugs or supplements.

Your treatment plan should include an anti-arthritis diet, exercise, and a positive mental attitude. I got rid of my arthritis pain years ago when I stopped eating dead food and changed my diet to all living foods; you can do it too. Begin your treatment program with a diet change, exercise and weight loss plan to see results and pain relief fast.

Interesting Facts About Buddhism

An interesting fact about Buddhism is its history.

Buddhism first developed in India through the teaching of Shakyamuni Buddha about 2500 years ago. His teaching is carried on in the Theravada tradition of Buddhism or the Teaching of the Elders.

So the Theravada tradition is the Shakyamuni Buddha’s original teaching. It is called the Path of the Elders. It is also called Hinayana Buddhism or the lesser vehicle. This is in comparison with Mahayana Buddhism - the Greater Vehicle.

An interesting fact about Buddhism is that it is a living seed and the Buddhist teaching has grown over the centuries under the influence of other enlightened masters. Shakyamuni Buddha - the original Siddharth Gautama - is only one of the many enlightened masters who form part of the Buddhist tradition. The Buddhist teaching grew under the influence of these other masters in North India, Tibet, China and Japan. In all these places Mahayana Buddhism took root. So an interesting fact about Buddhism is the variety of methods that developed over time.

Alan Watt’s says that Buddhism is Hinduism stripped for export. The Buddhist teaching spread as I said earlier to Tibet, China, Japan and other East Asian countries. In each country it adapted itself to its culture and traditions. The teaching and tradition (of Buddhism) gave birth to many enlightened masters and they in turn enriched the teaching. The peculiar genius of these masters and of the people of these countries colored the way Buddhism took shape in each of these countries. In Tibet, Mahayana Buddhism took root and influenced by many masters permeated the lives of the common people. In addition there were many monasteries and the tradition of the Dalai Lama as the spiritual and temporal head of the country also took shape there. The current Dalai Lama lives in exile in India after the Chinese invasion of Tibet in the 1950s. He is a highly respected figure and has won the Nobel peace prize. So an interesting fact about Buddhism is the way it changed to adapt itself to local customs in various countries.

In China, in addition to the Mahayana tradition, Zen Buddhism took root. The founder of Zen Buddhism in China is supposedly Bodhidharma who came to China from India. To Bodhidharma is attributed the saying, “This very mind is the Buddha.” This one sentence has had a profound influence on my growth and maturity as a human being.

So this is another interesting fact about Buddhism - just one in fact of the many skillful means (upayas) that you will find in this tradition.

Zen Buddhism flourished in China in the first millenium after Christ and during part of the second. It influenced and was influenced by the peculiar Chinese genius - by the philosophy of Confucius and of Taoism. And from China Zen Buddhism spread to Japan.

And it is in Japan that we can now find Zen Buddhism practiced. The word Zen in fact is corruption of the Chinese word “Chan” which in turn is a corruption of the Sanskrit word “Dhyana” There are many schools of Zen Buddhism in Japan and in fact Mahayana Buddhism is also practiced over there.

Zen is unique in the sense that it has no doctrine or philosophy or teachings that can be learned from books. It stresses only experiential understanding. Zen is thought of as being the fastest way to enlightenment. Slower than it is the Mahayana teaching and slowest of all is the Theravada tradition.

In the Zen monasteries in Japan today we many skillful means to aid the student in his quest. Prominent amongst these methods are Zazen meditation and the Koan.

One interesting fact about Buddhism as regards Zazen is the attitude that the monk is expected to bring to it. Normally we do all tasks - including meditation - because we expect a certain result. We meditate because we want happiness peace, enlightenment and the like. This however is just grasping or craving in another form. Monks doing Zazen are for this reason instructed to do their sitting meditation practice for the sake of doing the practice. And not because they want to gain something from their practice - whether enlightenment or anything else.

It is just this attitude that monks are expected to bring to Zazen meditation. And should we apply this to our meditation practice and day to day life it is quite enough to transform our lives

Home Theatre Systems - With So Many Choices, How Do You Find The Right One?

One of the overwhelming aspects of finding and/or designing the right home theatre system is that there are now so many options to choose from. With the ever steady boom in home theatre demand, more manufacturers are producing a wide array of options. Technology continues to change and improve in leaps and bounds, which often means what was brand new and completely unaffordable only twelve months ago may now be right in your perfect price range.

One reason many individuals like having a hand in designing their own home theatre system is that you can basically mix and match to make it into whatever you want. You are not restrained by package deals. It is possible to put together a full-scale, state of the art system with projector, receiver and the works, or if that seems a little over the top, you can buy a quality TV (some almost to projection screen sizes nowadays) and accessorize it with DVD player and surround sound speakers.

The variance can go from a couple thousand, to $100,000 for the ludicrously rich and extravagant. This illustrates the importance of choosing a system that suits your needs and doesn’t break the bank.

In the end, it’s all about getting the best possible home theater system for the money you have available. Don’t be afraid if it’s not state of the art-your neighbor will still be paying that off six years down the road when you’ve already upgraded for cheaper. Because of the rapid move of technology, prices bottom out pretty quickly as companies rush at sometimes break neck speeds to try and out do each other.

Think about your own watching and listening needs. Based on what you prefer, a little research should reveal to you the best brands, the best speakers, the best options for what you want to enjoy.

Building your home theater can be a great experience. If you are a family man, you can enjoy movies with the family without having to go out to the hassles of a theatre. If you’re a bachelor, invite the guys over for the game. If you’re a college student, you are probably incredibly popular (just don’t put it on the credit cards). There are several different factors to consider when picking out the various parts that will go into your own personal home theatre system. Here is a check list of a few things to consider:

* Projector or TV? Are you in a semi-permanent residence, or moving soon? That may make a huge difference in how much you want to sink in.

* If you’re shooting for the projector, then what type suits your needs?

* Small room or larger one.

* What is the focus? Movies? Music? Football games? All of the above?

* Location, location, location!

* Can I do it myself, or should I get help?

Keep this checklist in mind and do your research, and you’ll be sure to find the home theatre system that matches your needs.

http://www.hometheatrefun.com brings you the latest on the home theatre. Home theatre’s are very popular, and we want to bring you the most up to date information online! Be sure to check out our latest information page on home theatre systems

Bill Increases Fuel Standards 4% Annually

The temperature is getting hotter in the Congress not only because of global warming issues but because of the burning fuel standards proposals. Proposals come one after the other. And today, a key lawmaker will introduce a bill that requires automakers to increase fuel economy standards by four percent annually.

The proposed bill by U.S. Rep. Ed Markey, D-Mass., who is known for being a dogmatic critic of the auto industry, is in connection with President Bush’s stated goal of an average four percent raise each year starting in September 2009 for passenger cars and September 2011 for light trucks.

However, the difference of Markey’s proposal is that it makes the requirement a law. In contrast, Bush’s proposal allows automakers to negotiate for a lesser standard during the rulemaking process.

Automakers have earlier endorsed rewriting the federal fuel regulation rather than letting Congress legislate a specific requirement. Automakers call it “picking a number out of the air.”

Markey’s proposal is less strict than previous bills he has penned. The recent one would increase the average fuel economy standard for an automaker’s fleet of vehicles to at least 35 miles per gallon by 2018. With the said fuel standard proposal, improvement of about 10 mpg from current levels is expected to be realized. The bill will also raise fuel economy four percent annually after 2018, “unless it is not technologically or economically feasible,” as Markey noted.

According to a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) analysis, the four percent annual increase would cost the auto industry $114 billion from 2010 to 2017, including $85 billion for Detroit’s Big Three.

Top executives of the largest automakers that include General Motors Corporation, the Ford Motor Company, DaimlerChrysler’s Chrysler Group, and the Toyota Motor North America are expected at the Capitol Hill Wednesday to testify about fuel economy before a House committee.

In complying with the potential four percent increase in fuel standard, the automakers are expected to entertain lots of upgrades and modifications. And these changes entail intensive research and experimentation, as well as huge pecuniary considerations. The said proposal will also require introduction of refined auto parts to blend with the engines, suspension, rotors, filters, Brembo brakes, car accessories and other auto systems.

The Dachshund Personality

The Dachshund is known to have a stick-to-it personality. Because of the purposes they were breed for they are full of courage and tenacity. These dogs are strong headed and can even be quite stubborn. Dachshunds are known to be a clever, bold and a very proud dog. They are quite playful and enjoy chasing small animals and tennis balls with an immense amount of determination.

On the other hand, the Dachshund is extremely happy when around people. They love to be close and cuddle and yet are quite protective and devoted to their family. Their breed causes them to be burrower so if there is not a lap to snuggle into, the Dachshund likes to burrow under blankets. You may find them under clothing or under the bedcovers at night. They are truly entertainers and their sometimes clownish behavior will make them the star of show, the life of the party on any given occasion. They love to be included in walks or drives when the opportunity to go arises. Dachshunds can become a little bit jealous when other animals come around and be a little snippy to show their protection toward the people they love.

The Dachshund loves to play with toys, especially ones with squeakers in them. Their breeding tends to make them pull apart the toy in search of the squeaker inside. This dog will not stop until they have pulled all the stuffing out and found and removed the squeaker. They are almost obsessed to see the task to completion.

The Dachshund makes an ideal companion and family member. With their strong need to be with the ones they love, their lively and somewhat mischievous nature they may even attempt to train the owner.

John Kerry Backs Out of the 2008 Race to Inform Others of Global Warming

John Kerry, the losing 2004 presidential candidate, has decided not to seek the Democratic nomination in 2008. Kerry now wants to focus on remaining in the Senate to change the direction of George W. Bush’s “misguided” war in Iraq. The senator from Massachusetts did a “flip flop”, saying that he made a mistake in voting for the 2002 congressional resolution authorising the $87bn Iraq war.

Mr Kerry says that he now wants to make amends for his mistake during the remaining two years of Bush’s presidency. During his speech declaring his future intentions, Kerry almost choked back tears at one point. Among the leading presidential candidates, only Hillary Clinton has declined to admit her vote for the 2002 resolution was a mistake. However, her criticism of Bush’s strategy have restored some of her credibility within her party.

Kerry wants to introduce legislation that would set a firm one-year deadline for the redeployment of most American troops from Iraq. In addition, he wants to change the American military mission to training Iraqi security forces and counter-terrorism operations. Kerry also proposes to launch a major diplomatic initiative to provide a sustainable resolution in Iraq, which he believes is the only way forward for America.

John Kerry falls with a group of politicians that are considered “losers”. As he lost the Presidency to George Bush, very few people are going to support Kerry again this time. They will view him as someone that cannot win, cannot appeal to mainstream voters. Not a good position to be for any potential candidate.

John Kerry intends to spend his time supporting global warming.

John McCain’s Fortunes Take a Plunge

Senator John McCain of Arizona is one of the Republican party’s most promising candidates for the 2008 presidential election. However, in recent times, his fortunes have taken a hit. Recent polls show Mr McCain trailing Rudy Giuliani, the former mayor of New York, whose strong leadership after the September 11 terrorist attacks has made him quite a hero.

Since the 2008 election is largely going to be dominated by the issue of national security, people are beginning to wonder if Mr McCain is indeed the right choice for president. In recent times, McCain has given conflicting views on the war in Iraq. Initially, he criticized Donald Rumsfeld, the former defence secretary, as “one of the worst secretaries of defence in history”. He also criticized the Bush administration’s handling of the Iraq war. However, he recently came out strongly in favour of George W. Bush’s plan to send another 21,500 US troops into the warzone.

Ever since these conflicting signals have come out, McCain’s poll numbers among registered Republican voters and the US public at large have fallen sharply. McCain’s support for stem cell research and lack of forceful opposition to gay marriages have not helped his cause. His views on abortion are also being regarded with suspicion; he has called for the overturning of a 1973 Supreme Court ruling that paved the way for abortion.

The general public, overall, supports a McCain run for presidency but the the mainstream Republicans do not. As indicative of the CPAC booing his absence from the even. Mitt Romney, a traiditional conservative was the winner of the straw poll.

It is important to support good candidates whose views match yours. Learn the consequences of global warming and be informed.

Vodafone McLaren-Mercedes Team Hits New Era

The Vodafone McLaren Mercedes team is expected to spread out the thrill and the excitement in the race track this weekend. This will be the team’s very first time to invade the track in its new era. Fernando Alonso, Double and his equally famous teammate Lewis Hamilton, have completed their pre-season test programme with the MP4-22s. The test programme covered over 13,300km before arriving in Australia. Fernando and Lewis completed 10,200km while Pedro dela Rosa, another famous racer, covered 3,100km.

Vodafone McLaren Mercedes team infrastructure arrived in Australia by sea freight during the week commencing 26th February, having left the McLaren Technology Centre on 10th January. This was followed by the air freight. On the 11th of this month, the team arrived with Fernando arriving in Melbourne on the 12th and Lewis on the 14th.

Upon arrival in Melbourne, the first task given to the team is to find the freight and start the process of setting up the necessary facilities like the garage and office areas. The few days spent were full of fun and stimulation. On Thursday, Fernando and Lewis will join Pedro for a team event at a beach front restaurant in Melbourne, before arriving at the Albert Park track to walk the track with their engineers and partake in the first technical meeting of the Grand Prix.

The team has spent time during the winter season with Fernando and Lewis familiarizing everyone and building one solid unit. The phase was more like a process of learning and having two new drivers to add element of motivation.

“Having spent the winter getting to know my new team and new car, I feel really at home and am very motivated to start racing. I always enjoy Australia, there is a great atmosphere and I am excited to get out there and see where we are compared to the other teams,” said Alonso. “There are a lot of new things in the sport this season such as new rules, all teams running on Bridgestone Potenzas, drivers changing teams. Everyone is starting from zero and it is going to make things very interesting. Am I going to go out at Albert Park and win my first race with Vodafone McLaren Mercedes? We are certainly going to push hard to try.”

Both drivers have been working closely with their race engineers during testing at the McLaren Technology Centre. Alonso is working with Mark Slade and Hamilton with Phil Prew. During the Grands Prix, Fernando will have Steve Hallam as his contact on the pit wall and then Lewis will be speaking with Richard Hopkirk. Car racing parts are also checked to ensure maximum performance. These cars may not be mated to Bosch product lines but the power is remarkably better.

“Taking to the grid Australia is the end of one journey for me and the start of an even bigger one. I have been working incredibly hard towards this moment over the past few months, testing, physical training, working with the engineers at the McLaren Technology Centre and studying the regulations,” Hamilton said. “I feel I have the experience I need and I definitely feel ready to get out there. This year will be a learning curve for me, Albert Park is one of the seven new tracks I’ll be racing on, but it is not a huge problem more an exciting challenge. I have always enjoyed street circuits, so it is great to start my career in Formula 1 with Vodafone McLaren Mercedes here.”

Prostate Cancer Treatments Made Easy

The prostate gland is part of the male reproductive system. Prostate cancer is a malignant tumor of the prostate gland. The prostate gland is located directly beneath the bladder and in front of the rectum.

Many men, especially those later in life have made the decision with their doctors to simply watch and wait. The prostate is a small, walnut-sized structure that makes up part of a man’s reproductive system; it wraps around the urethra, the tube that carries urine out of the body. Prostate cancer is the third most common cause of death from cancer in men of all ages and is the most common cause of death from cancer in men over 75 years old.

One of the most common symptoms is the inability to urinate at all. Some men will experience symptoms that might indicate the presence of prostate cancer. Having one or more cancer symptoms does not necessarily mean that you have prostate cancer.

Weak or interrupted flow of urine and painful or burning urination can be symptoms to watch out for. Other symptoms might include unintentional weight loss and lethargy. If you have one or more prostate cancer symptoms, you should see a qualified doctor as soon as possible.

There is a newer test called AMACR that is more sensitive than the PSA test for determining the presence of prostate cancer. A bone scan can indicate whether the cancer has spread or not. When a digital rectal exam is performed it often reveals an enlarged prostate with a hard, irregular surface.

Another test usually used when prostate cancer symptoms are present is the digital rectal exam (DRE) performed by the doctor. There are several potential downsides to PSA testing; for example a high PSA does not always mean a patient has prostate cancer. A number of tests may be done to confirm a diagnosis of prostate cancer.

Since prostate tumors require testosterone to grow, reducing the testosterone level is used to prevent further growth and spread of the cancer. Thoroughly discuss your treatment options and concerns with your doctor and other health professionals; it never hurts to get a second or even third opinion or more if necessary. The conventional treatment of prostate cancer is often controversial.

If chemotherapy is decided upon after the first round of chemotherapy, most men receive further doses on an outpatient basis at a clinic or physician’s office. Surgery, radiation therapy, and hormonal therapy can interfere with libido on a temporary or permanent basis. Hormone manipulation is mainly used as a treatment to relieve symptoms in men whose cancer has spread.

Recent improvements in surgical procedures have made complications occur less often. Whether radiation is as good as removing the prostate is debatable and the decision about which to choose, if any, can be difficult. Be aware that some men chose natural treatment options and forgo any surgery, radiation or chemotherapy.

Besides hormonal drugs, hormone manipulation may also be done by surgically removing the testes. Surgery is usually only recommended after thorough evaluation and discussion of all available treatment options. In the early stages, surgery and radiation may be used to remove or attempt to kill the cancer cells or shrink the tumor.

Anyone considering surgery should be aware of the benefits, risks and the extent of the procedure. Chemotherapy medications are often used to treat prostate cancers that are resistant to hormonal treatments.

If you do choose invasive conventional treatment, you can always change your diet and do non-invasive natural treatments too. As new research comes out adjust your treatment options accordingly. If you haven’t been diagnosed but are concerned about symptoms you should call for an appointment to see your doctor; and if you’re a man older than 50 who has never been screened for prostate cancer (by rectal exam and/or PSA level determination) or not had a regular annual exam, or have had a family history of prostate cancer, make an appointment soon.
