One of the first things people do to try to alleviate their foot pain is buy ready made insoles or heel cups. Ready-made insoles or cups will not help cure your foot pain problem nor provide balanced arch support, contribute to gait correction, nor cushion your foot effectively.
If you have foot pain problems, start with comfortable shoes that have thick soles and rubber heels to relieve pressure. Then, if you still want to use a ready made insole, cut a round hole about the size of a quarter in it just above the painful area. This will offer support to the rest of the heel while relieving pressure on the painful spot itself.
When combined with exercises that stretch the arch and heel cord, over-the-counter insoles will bring you temporary relief until you can see a podiatrist. Most heel spurs do not cause pain. They often show up on x-rays as an incidental finding. If there is pain, it is more than likely caused where the plantar fascia is attached to the heel bone causing the pain. In any case, Heel Cups will help less than 50% of the people who buy them because the pain is the result of a plantar fascia problem in the first place.
Just remember that using ready made inserts, while appearing to bring pain relief, will more than likely cause your condition to become worse and may even accelerate your foot pain condition. Ready-made insoles once again will not provide balanced arch support, contribute to gait correction, nor cushion your foot effectively. We are limited to what we can do in our everyday life activities if our feet hurt. If we can’t stand, walk, or run with relative ease, our lifestyle will change dramatically and for the worst.
Stop for a minute and imagine what your life would be like if because of the pain, you could not stand erect, walk, and run. Reflect on this possibility in your mind and you will know what to do; pick up the phone and find a podiatrist who is trained to help you.
