Contrary to popular belief, green tea caffeine content can be higher than black tea. It really depends on the kind of green tea you are drinking.

Oxidation doesn’t increase caffeine content. In fact, some studies have found that the longer tea oxidises, the lower the caffeine content.

Colour is a poor guide to the amount of caffeine tea contains. The finest Japanese green tea - Gyokuro - contains more caffeine than the black Lapsang Souchong.

So what influences green tea caffeine content?

Plant Variety

Camellia sinensis has two sub varieties: the Chinese sinensis and the Indian Assamica.

The Chinese green tea is a slow growing shrub that produces small, narrow leaves. Usually cultivated from seeds, it has less caffeine, ranging from 1% to 3% in dry weight.

The Indian black tea is a quick growing tree that yields large, broad leaves. Usually cultivated using the vegetable propagation method, it contains more caffeine, ranging from 3% to 5% in dry weight.

It is the plant variety, not oxidation, that causes black tea to have roughly the twice the caffeine as green tea.

But not all parts of the tea plant have the same amount of caffeine.

Leaf Style

Many high grade green teas are made from the bud and its adjacent two leaves. These tender shoots are the sweetest, tastiest and healthiest.

They are the richest in catechins, which contains all the antioxidants, and the sweet and fresh tasting theanine, which calms and soothes the mind. Unfortunately, they also contain the most caffeine.

The younger the leaf, the more caffeine it contains. According to Upton Tea, the bud and first leaf contain 5% caffeine in dry weight, the second leaf 3.5%, the upper stem 2.5% and lower stem 1.4%.

It is no coincidence that the finest green tea from China (Longjing or Dragon Well) and Japan (Gyokuro) have one of the highest caffeine content.

Teabags have less green tea caffeine content, and a poorer favor to match.

Black tea is made from larger, more mature leaves. This means that a high grade loose-leaf green can have as much caffeine as black tea, sometimes even more.

Growing and Making Conditions

Now we are in the realm of uncertainty.

The local growing conditions can influence the green tea caffeine content. An often quoted example is the Japanese Gyokuro, which is shaded away from sun to preserve its theanine and caffeine content.

Other less obvious contributing factors are soil, climate and when the tea is harvested. Processing method, such as withering and oxidation also play a part. The longer the leaves are left to wither, the higher the caffeine. But the longer they are left to oxidise, the lower the caffeine.

Now you see why depending on who you ask, green tea caffeine content can vary from 8 to 75 milligrams a cup?

When you think of the leaders in international cricket, the Canadians don’t exactly spring to mind, so as England and Canada face each other this weekend in the cricket world cup, it’s interesting to ask if cricket is Canada’s national sport?

So is it?
Er, no it isn’t.

Canada’s has 2 national sports, defined by law in the 1990s.
They are ice hockey for the winter, and lacrosse for the summer.

Cricket used to be huge in Canada, as an ex-British colony.
In fact, the match between the USA and Canada held in Sept 1844, is not only the oldest known international in cricket, it’s the oldest known international fixture in *any* sport!

I did some research, and it turns out that the game was between a New York team and a Toronto team, but both teams sought players from their countries, so in effect they were representative teams, and it has long been held that it did count as a US v. Canada match!

I love that kind of history in sport - it’s one of the things that’s great about it - a rich history, which is always being added to, only getting ever richer as time goes on!

Cricket didn’t last as a popular sport in Canada, nor in the US for that matter, unlike other ex-Brit colonies like Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, India, etc.

Maybe it’s the cold weather, maybe it’s infiltration of other sports from the US, but the cricket world cup in 2007 sees Canada as just there to make up the numbers.

Having said that about cricket, that is not the case with the sport of curling!
Canada has a huge percentage of all the world’s curlers.
As a newcomer to the sport, I will be watching that sport’s World Champs this week also, where the Canadians are *always* expected to do well.

So, as you enjoy the cricket, the curling, or any sport, you can now show off your knowledge about the oldest sporting international!

If you want to get started selling on the internet, it’s a good idea to learn how to sell other people’s products. That is called affiliate marketing and is a good way to test the water of internet marketing if you don’t have a product of your own yet. Affiliate marketing is an extremely common way of making money online, and a few tips should help you on your way.

You need a website. You will find any form of internet marketing difficult without one, so you are best to start off there. There are lots of web hosts available, but find someone who has their own website and ask for advice, because there are good web hosts and bad ones. I use one costing me under $25 a month for everything I need, include web page design tools, email addresses, autoresponders, a checkout and credit card payment system and lots more.

Once you have a web host you will need a domain name for your website, but first choose your product type. If you want to sell only goods that can be delivered electronically, go to Clickbank.com who have the biggest range of affiliate electronic products in the world. Alternatively, have a look at what is selling on eBay or simply type ‘affiliate programs’ into your browser, and see what is available.

Having chosen your products, decide on your domain name, which should reflect the products you are selling. If your web host allows you more than one domain, or subdomains, you can add different domain names as you expand your range of product types. Most good hosts allow that.

You should design your web pages to be similar to, but not exactly like, the sales pages of your merchants. Use one page per product where possible, and use it to pre-sell the product by writing nice things about it. You shouldn’t design a sales page. That is provided by your merchant, so don’t repeat what is on your merchant’s page. Check out some other affiliate marketer’s page and say what they do. Pre-selling is a knack that you will eventually develop, and can be critical to your success.

Always have an opt-in form on your page. Every one of your affiliate pre-selling pages should have an opt-in form so that you can build up a list of email addresses. You can offer some free ebooks or software to visitors who register, and also offer a regular newsletter with which you can offer any additions to your range.

Keep in mind that statistically it takes up to seven views of a product before the average person makes a purchase. You need a list to be able to keep in touch or each visitor will be lost for ever and you will lose a lot of potential sales. Your autoresponder should offer list-building software and forms. Hence the benefit of using a web host that provides this software in their package.

You should now be all set. You have your website, domain name, products, opt-in list and pre-sales pages. All you need now is to advertise. Most affiliate websites are not initially sufficiently well enough designed or optimized for high search engine listings, so advertising will eventually take up most of the time you spend on your site.

Pay-per-click advertising can be profitable, but also expensive. However, many find it profitable. Google Adwords and Yahoo Search Marketing (Overture) are the two main ones. You should have one advert for each product that leads the prospect directly to your pre-sales page with the link to the merchant’s sales page and your opt-in form. Never lead a PPC link to your home page. In Adwords you are required to provide two URLs. This first is your top-level home page, and the second is your landing page, i.e. your pre-sales page.

You pay the amount you bid for the keyword every time a visitor clicks to visit your web page. This is why it must lead directly to what you are advertising, since if the visitor does not see the product they want immediately, they will probably leave and you will have spent your money on nothing.

Another good way of advertising is writing an article associated with the product, but not a direct advertisement for it. Submit this to as many article directories as you can and you will earn yourself a few visitors. In fact this could be a major source of visitors, since it is free advertising, and you can do it over and over again, writing lots of different articles on the subject.

Once you have built up a big list from your opt-in forms (a different list for every product though), you will find it easier to make sales by emailing everybody on your list. In the meantime read up about all the possible ways of promoting a product on the internet and use as many as you can.

That’s how to sell other people’s products to make money on the internet. If you need advertising material, your merchant will normally provide that to you. Set up your site, advertise it and away you go. Your sales will increase as you get more experience.

Far too often, I hear women complain after starting to workout with weights that their body weight is not going down or may even be going up a bit.

What these women have to understand, especially thin women is that they are now adding on quality muscle which initially will add body weight or prevent them from losing weight. This is because muscle has significant weight value.

However, in the long term women who workout with weights will be better off than those that do not.

Lean muscle helps to increase the body’s metabolism helping a person to burn calories and fat through out the day even when not working out thus keeping there bodies lean and avoiding weight flux even during times when not working out. Though I am not recommending it, a person who has more lean muscle can get away with having cheat meals occasionally because the muscle they have developed are like a furnace that is constantly burning up those calories twenty four seven. Everyone needs to cheat occasionally, but that’s a story for another time.

Lean muscle also makes the body look more appealing. A person may weigh significantly more than they appear to others when they have more lean muscle. Those with lean muscle will seem more toned and will have much less excess fat and skin hanging loose off of the body. Women can obtain tight lifted butts, arms and a lean looking midsection through weight training that cardiovascular exercise can not do alone.

Those that focus on cardiovascular alone will achieve weight loss if done properly, but will notice a large amount of excess skin and have flabby common areas often found on women such as behind the arms and in between the thighs.

Women in the beginning of starting a weight training program should pay more attention to how there clothes fit and measure themselves in inches instead of pounds. The scale should not be of too much concern. The weight will come off the scale soon enough, just be patient and understand the value of the calorie.

Women, including those that are so concerned with what the scale reads can lose body weight by understanding calorie intake and expenditure. Not just women, but anyone that increases there cardiovascular exercise and/or decrease there calorie intake can achieve fat loss. Making small changes in the number of calories taken in or expended can achieve this. However, these changes must be done carefully and slowly. Maintaining an adequate nutrient intake of vitamins is very important even while trying to lose weight. Calories only need to be reduced enough to cause weight loss.

Once one reaches a plateau in which weight loss is not occurring then further small increments of the reduction of calorie intake or increase in calorie expenditure is needed. This can be done until one reaches there desired healthy weight goal. The key word here being when one reaches there “healthy weight” goal. Seeking a weight loss goal that is disproportionate to ones height is not advised and can be very harmful to there health. Also, starvation will not achieve weight loss goals in the long term. The body needs adequate nutrients through out the day and if it thinks it is starving, it will hold on to every bit of fat it possibly can at a certain point. Also, a person will feel extreme fatigue and agitation, along with many other serious potential health problems.

Long term weight training is very beneficial to women and will help to make there body’s lean and tight all over. Weight training is a crucial compliment to a proper weight loss cardiovascular program and healthy eating plan.

Publish your articles in large numbers of article directories, and somebody will use your article in their e-zine, complete with your author’s resource box as they are obliged to do. You will not only get the links back to your site from the directories and e-zines that use your article, but you will also be on that e-zine’s mailing list, and your article, and website URL, will be exposed to everybody on the list. Every article you write has the potential to make use of the email lists of a large number of internet e-zines.

In addition to this, you should have an opt-in form on the page you are leading traffic to from your resource box, and you then have the opportunity have somebody else’s list also sign up for your list. This is a perfectly acceptable way of using an e-zine list to build your own.

E-zine Advertising

You can also advertise directly with an e-zine. Since e-zines tend to be themed to a specific topic the readers will be highly targeted to the theme of the e-zine, and if you find an e-zine that caters for your niche, an advert on it will be exposed to highly targeted visitors. This could generate traffic and business for your site, as well as once again offering you the opportunity of registering some of that e-zine’s list to yours.

Your advert should be strong and compelling, and designed to persuade anybody seeing it to at least give it a click to find out more about your site. Keep in mind that the audience is targeted so you can use language that is relevant to the niche. They will understand it, and if you can throw in a few buzz words you will likely get the click.

The Google Sandbox is a kind of virtual holding cell where websites that don’t quite make the grade or that are suspected of spamming are put into a kind of purgatory. As you may or may not know, the Google spiders make two trips to your index before they index it. The first trip by a spider indexes your strengths and weaknesses and if there is a lot of weaknesses then it could take the search engine months to analyze your site. If the site seems like it spamming somehow or inethical it may not be indexed at all.

Basically when the Google Spiders index your site they also take note of how you may be trying to manipulate the search engine rankings. Two things that could definitely get you into trouble are over optimizing the web site with keywords and building too many low quality links too fast.

You should be extra careful about this if your website is new. Over optimizing is what a lot of copycat sites do to beat out the competition and the search engine spiders may note this. If you have a new site with way too many links it is automatic evidence of link farming to the Google search engines who will then penalize you for it – i.e. send your site to the Google sandbox.

There are certain industries that are more suspect than others and that Google may have less patience with when it comes to link farming and keyword stuffing. This includes the porn, pharmaceutical, Internet, work at home business, psychic and yes, even the SEO industry. In fact if you are selling business to business products or ebooks about how to make more money using SEO then you might be a number one candidate to be sent to the Google sandbox as you are displaying obvious knowledge of “cheating the search engines” type techniques in your web content.

If you have a good product, and you know of somebody who has a large mailing list, you could offer them an affiliate agreement on your product if they endorse it and offer it to their list. Many people with lists of hundreds of thousands, or even millions, of email addresses are highly protective of their lists, and do not allow it to be used by others unless the product is good.

It would be a good idea to offer it free to the list owner, and ask them to review it. If it is acceptable to them you could offer them 50% of all sales made to their list. If your product is a good one, and there is no reason to refuse, you could be accepted as a partner in the joint venture. However, your product must be good and your handling of complaints must be acceptable to the other party, or they may not think it worth taking the chance.

It takes a long time to build a large list, and it can take no time to lose it if they are offered a bum deal with poor servicing of the product they purchase, so expect a bit of reluctance at first until you can provide evidence that you are able, not only to provide a good product, but also a reliable one with good after-sales service.

One of the most important things to remember is to treat every jv partner with respect, and respect their lists - they have worked hard to build their list and must be treated with respect.
