Passover Gifts - Now This One Meaning You Don’t Want To Miss

What is the purpose of the the Matzah Cover and Matzah Plate?

To understand the purpose of the Matzah Cover an Matzah plate, one must first think consider the meaning of Matzah.Matzah is the only type of bread which Jews can eat during Passover and it is made from Flour and water.

On the night that the Pharaoh let the children of Israel go , the children of Isreal had no time to bake their bread. They had to get out of Egypt as fast as they could before the pharaoh changed his mind, so they could not bake their bread.

If you know anything about bread then you know the result of not baking your bread, the yeast in the bread does not get an opportunity to rise. So here you have the Children of Israel fleeing Egypt in the broiling sun with the bread that has not risen

If you know anything about the broiling sun when it makes extended contact with bread then you would know that the bread slowly turned into flat unleavened bread. And as the Children of Israel had no other food they ate this flat unleavened bread.

Now fast forward many generations and all Jews celebrating Passover eat this Matzah. The Jews eat this Matzah in memory of all of those who ate the Matzah on their way out of Egypt thousands of years ago.

Called the “bread of affiliation”Matzah is eaten during the Seder feast. 3 portions of Matzah placed are placed on Matzah plate which is then placed next to the seder plate. The three Matzahs are in specifically in place to remember the Isrealite, Levite and Kohanim tribe of Jews from the past.

Our Matzah cover then comes into use in covering the Matzah while it is not in use. A cloth is placed over the Matzah plate and matzah and then the required Matzah cover is placed on top.

At a point in the meal, the seder leader takes and hides one portion of Matzah for the children to find in a sort of game. The Matzah is then eaten a few more times, by itself and/or mixed with other foods during specific sections of the seder feast.

*The Matzah cover has threes opening which can also be called pockets. Each pocket is used for one of the three Matzah used in the Passover feast.

GPS stands for Global Positioning System. It is a satellite radio navigation system built by the United States Department of Defense. Research on the system began in the 60’s and the first GPS satellite was launched in 1978. It took a while for the entire system to come online but finally on April 27, 1995 it became fully operational. At first, the GPS network was only for military use but in the 80’s the United States government authorized the general public to make use of it too.

The GPS network is composed of:

  • Satellites
  • Earth Monitoring Stations
  • GPS receivers

What is a GPS Satellite?

There are currently 24 satellites orbiting the earth is 6 distinct trajectories. Each satellite completes two orbits around the earth each day, traveling at a speed of about 7,000 MPH. At the highest point in their orbit they are over 12,000 miles above the earth. From this height, the satellite signals can be received over a large percentage of the surface of the earth. A GPS unit works by receiving multiple satellite signals and calculating the receiver’s position based on triangulation of the different signals. Accuracy is increased with each additional satellite signal that is received so the orbits of the satellites are set so that at most points on the earth there are at least 4 signals that can be received. Of course, this is in theory only since the landscape around you can block some or all of the GPS signals.

What is a GPS Earth Monitoring Station?

There are four unmanned monitoring stations in the US and one manned master station which is located in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The four unmanned stations relay position data from the satellites to the master station. The master station uses the relayed information to correct the position of the sat tiles and sends the corrected information back to the satellites. This synchronizes the data that each satellite transmits to your GPS receiver and ensures that your receiver is always working with accurate information.

What is a GPS Receiver?

GPS satellites transmit low power radio signals that can only be picked up if your GPS unit has a direct “line of sight” to the satellite. The signals can penetrate things like glass, plastic and clouds but not solid structures like buildings or rocks. A GPS unit works by triangulating your location based on the position of at least three satellites in the GPS system. It compares the time it takes to receive a signal from each of the satellites in range and calculates your location based on the data.

If you are only able to pick up three satellite signals, your GPS unit can report your location in latitude and longitude. However, when the GPS unit picks up signals from at least four satellites it also calculates your altitude. Now it can report your trip distance, distance to a destination, travel speed and even your altitude if your GPS receiver features an altimeter.

How accurate a GPS unit is depends on its ability to find and lock onto a satellite’s signal. As you might expect, you get what you pay for and the more expensive GPS units are generally more accurate. The best consumer units claim accuracy to within a few feet while the older or less expensive units can be off up to 30-40 feet or more. Where you plan to use your GPS receiver could determine if it’s worth shelling out the extra money for increased accuracy. If you’re using your GPS unit in flatter terrain with a good open view of the sky a less expensive unit could perform nearly as well as the top of the line receiver. However, if you plan to use your receiver in dense tree cover, while hiking in ravines or narrow valleys, or among tall buildings you’ll gain much better accuracy with a more higher end GPS unit.

Now you know the basics about how GPS works and can answer the question “What is GPS?”.

Passover Gifts - What Does This One Signify?

Which one am I talking about? The Seder plate. The Seder plate and its contents go back thousands of years ago to the Passover and when the Jews left Egypt. It is not the actual Seder plate than has the spiritual meaning, but rather the contents of this wonderful plate.

There are six items on this plate, with their own symbolic Passover meaning. The first and second items are Bitter herbs. These bitter herbs are meant to represent the suffering and terrible time that the Jews had in Egypt as slaves.Usually a type of vegetable that is bitter tasting is used in this case.

Then there is a roasted skankbone of a lamb which in our time can sometimes be represented by a chicken neck This skankbone’s significance is to help the Jews remember how the blood of a lamb preserved their first bone children from the angel of death when it came over Egypt. Another meaning is that it represents the lamb which used to be sacrificed in the temple before its destruction.

Next , there is a sugary brown substance called “Charoset” which is meant to represent the mortar the Jews used to build Egyptian structures.

Then there is a vegetable dipped which into salt water. This vegetable is can be many vegetables, but is usually either parsley, celery or a potato. This dipping of the vegetable into water represents all the tears and pain of the Jews in Egypt who could only eat plain foods.

Lastly, there is a roasted egg. After the temple was destroyed, the Jews could no longer do daily sacrifice and this issue is represented by this roasted egg.

The Seder plate makes for an extraordinary Passover gift as it is highly relevant and fitting for the Passover holiday season.

The most challenging aspect of building a home based Internet business how you go about increasing the awareness of your products online. There are however ways to go around it and what I’m going to share with you is on how you can submit so called written ‘articles’ related to your products or services as in your website you choose to promote.

The 3 key success to writing a good marketing article are:

1) Researching of keywords;

2) The writing of articles and

3) Submission of articles. Although selection of keyword(s) used in your article is the most important aspect, many of us tend not to do a keyword research. You would need to focus your time to search for keywords to be included in your article ‘Title’, ‘Body’ and its ‘Resource Box’, that is a pre-requisite to enhance your ranking as in any of the Search Engines. It may be important to use popular keywords that are constantly being searched in the internet to bring more targeted traffic to your website, however too popular a keyword may also suggest that your article may takes a longer time to reach a high ranking since that would be more competition. If you are selling organic food online, you may want to search for keywords relating to organic food.. At the same time, take note of the more ‘common’ keywords listed in Wordtracker or Overture that you may include in your article writing. There is a measurement on the effectiveness of a keyword, which is stated by Keyword Effectiveness Index (KEI). A KEI of 10 or above relates to you that a keyword is popular in the search. For a KEI of below 10, it is considered a keyword of poor choice and you may want to avoid using such a keyword.

Second aspect of writing a good article: keep your article content short. An ideal word count for a good online article is around 350 - 800 words. As human concentration span in reading is usually lower than off-screen reading, so you do not want to turn off your readers. My take is to write a problem-based title rather than a solution-based one. An example of a solution-based title may look like this: “The secrets to email marketing success”. This title might be a hit several years ago, which means its effective has gone down over the years. On the other hand, a curiosity or problem-based title like “Do you know who is killing your email marketing?” would arouse your reader more. Remember, you must include the chosen keywords in your title as well so as to increase your ranking over the Internet.

Third aspect: the body of your article. Be concise and straightforward in your writing in this part. Put yourself in the perspective of your readers where they are only interested to find relevant information. A good article would comprise of its main points in the first and second paragraph. Again, your placement of keywords is crucial and should be placed in the first and second paragraphs. To add on, it is also crucial to have your website URL included in the Resource or Signature Box. Information in the Resource Box is to provide readers a better understanding of your services and also an opportunity for you to promote your websites to them. A brief introduction about yourself in the Resource Box is highly recommended as it reflects your professionalism and enhances your credibility.

Last but not the least, upon completion of your article writing, you have to submit your articles to the Articles Directories. Submit to various engines as such: EzineArticles.com, searchwarp.com, GoArticles.com or IdeaMarketers.com, for the fact that they are the highest ranked article submission sites in the Search Engines so far. Start your article marketing today; bring traffic to your affiliated website through the mentioned Articles Directory.

It’s a treat baking sweets, but running out of a crucial recipe ingredient can really gum up the works. Knowing an ingredient’s “equivalent” or substitution can save the day. Many cake and cookie recipes can be adapted by using modern sweeteners if you don’t have ingredients called for in vintage cookbooks or grandma’s desert recipe. Today, Mom helps cooks in the kitchen with tips on granulated, brown, powdered sugars, and molasses.

Granulated Sugar - Most sugar is made from sugar cane or sugar beets. The plants are juiced, the liquid is boiled several times to separate out the molasses and the remaining clear liquid is crystallized into the familiar white granules on our tables. If you don’t have 1 cup granulated sugar use 1 cup packed brown sugar OR instead of 1 cup granulated sugar use 2 cups powdered sugar.

You can also substitute sweet syrups for granulated sugars, but you’ll need to remove some of the liquid in your recipe to maintain the correct moisture level. If you are baking it helps to add a leavening agent like baking soda. If you don’t have the soda and you are not baking, then you can probably leave it out and still be ok. But this may effect texture and cooking times, so keep a closer eye on your creation.

If you don’t have 1 cup granulated sugar use 1 cup honey + 1/4 tsp soda and reduce the liquid in the recipe by 1/4 cup. Honey is sweeter than granulated sugar. Or, instead of 1 cup granulated sugar use 1 1/2 cups molasses plus 1/4 tsp baking soda and reduce the liquid in the recipe by 1/4 cup. 1 pound (package) granulated sugar = about 2 1/4 cups granulated sugar.

Powdered Sugar - Superfine or powdered sugar is granulated sugar that has been spun into a powder. Used for a slightly smoother texture especially in frostings and fluffy meringues. When measuring you’ll need slightly more powdered to make up for its fine grain. If you don’t have 2 cups powdered sugar use 1 cup granulated. 1 pound (package) of powdered sugar = about 3 1/2 cups powdered sugar, unsifted (not packed).

Confectioner’s Sugar - Confectioners sugar has been processed past the powdered sugar phase, into an even finer powder. Today the terms are used interchangeably, so check your packaging.

Brown Sugar - Brown sugar or sugar in the raw, has slightly more brown syrup, or molasses than white granulated sugar and is slightly less sweet. As a result, brown sugar has a smokier flavor and darker color. Golden brown sugar has less molasses than dark brown sugar. The two can be used interchangeably, but note the darker sugar will have a richer flavor and color and is generally better if you’re cooking pork.

If you don’t have brown sugar use granulated sugar instead using the exact same measurements. You can also make brown sugar by combining 1 cup sugar with 1/2 cup molasses, but this may throw off the liquid in your recipe, so be careful using this substitution when baking cakes.

Brown sugar will remain soft if it is kept in an airtight container. To soften brown sugar place it in an ovenproof container and warm at 250 degrees until soft, or microwave on high for 30 seconds at a time until soft. Use it immediately as it will be harder than before when it cools! A 1 pound package of brown sugar equals about 2 1/4 cup firmly packed brown sugar.

Molasses - Molasses has a dark, sweet, smoky taste. It is created during the sugar refining process. Molasses is slightly less sweet than granulated sugar. Until sugar prices fell in the 1930’s molasses was the primary sweetener in American kitchens. Sulphur dioxide is sometimes used to make molasses sweet. The term ‘unsulphured molasses’ just means sulphur was not used in the creation of your molasses and it should be the lightest and sweetest type. Measuring molasses is easier (and more accurate) if you grease the measuring cup first with a little cooking spray or butter. One 12 fluid ounce jar of molasses equals 1 1/2 cups. One cup equals 8 fluid ounces.

If you are making a vintage recipe I heartily recommend you spring for a jar of molasses. Molasses is the secret ingredient in many cookies, cakes, ham glazes and BBQ sauces. Granulated sugars will not taste the same. If you have a jar left over, you can use molasses in baked beans, ham, oatmeal, ice cream or added to syrup and butter on pancakes. One tablespoon of molasses provides 8% of your daily recommended iron and 4% of your calcium!

One cup of molasses equals1 cup honey. Bear in mind honey is sweeter than molasses and will change the flavor slightly. OR instead of 1 cup of molasses try 3/4 cup granulated sugar (brown is preferable) plus 1/4 cup water. The extra water (or other liquid) is called for to make up for the moisture in molasses. It is important to replace it if you’re baking cakes or breads. Blackstrap molasses is the thickest, darkest and least sweet type of molasses and isn’t recommended for baking.

Sugar Baking Tip: Baking relies on a bit more science than your average frosting recipe. Not only do the ingredients add flavor, they may also serve a specific function like making your cake rise, or binding ingredients together. For best results when baking, measure all your ingredients accurately; like leveling off your measuring cup with the edge of a knife and setting the cup on the counter when measuring liquids. When you resort to a substitution just be aware that your texture or flavor may be slightly different. For more of Mom’s kitchen tips and apron humor visit her on the web at http://www.MomsRetro.com. Lets imagine a person wants to buy one or more books. In the past there was only one possibility : to buy the printed version of them. Today there is another alternative, to buy it as an audio book.

But that person has not finished the important decisions already. After deciding to buy it as an audio book, he has to decide if he wants to download audio books or buying the audio book on cd or tape.

Which are the benefits and drawbacks of buying the audio book on cd?

The size of audio book files is rather big so they can be difficult to download if you don’t have a good internet connection. This is a big issue in some parts of the world, even in the XXI century! So receiving the audio book on cd by mail can be the best alternative.

However, an audio book on cd is usually more expensive then to download audio books, as they are physical goods that need to be packaged, send by plane in some cases, etc.

On the other hand, if you have a good internet connection you can download audio books and have them in a few minutes in your PC, and then decide what to do with them. Perhaps you can burn them to a cd, or maybe you prefer to copy them to your MP3 player or Ipod.

So, depending on the case, you would decide between the two alternatives to enjoy your favorite audio book titles.

The Passover meal consists of several readings, prayers and stories which are linked to the exodus story. This collection makes up what is called the Haggadah (telling) whose contents dates back to the medieval period. All entries in the Haggadah are recited at certain stages of the Seder.

The Haggadah which has been translated into the vernacular can be understood by all who partake at the feast. An example is the opening prayer which is said by the oldest boy of the family. He prays,”this is the bread of poverty which our forefathers ate in the land of Egypt. Let all who are hungry enter and eat; let all who are needy come to our Passover feast. This year we are here; next year may we be in the Land of Israel. This year we are slaves; next year we may be free men”.

When there was a temple, the priest had a very significant role to play at the temple during Passover, as it was the priests who ritually killed the animal for the sacrifice. When Passover festivities shifted from the temple to the home, members of the family would now take on responsibilities in the Seder. For example, the oldest boy in the family is the “master of the Seder”. It is his job (among other tasks) to sanctify the wine and open up the Seder through prayer. Through the Haggadah the whole family has an opportunity to participate in prayer and in song. The women also have a great responsibility in preparation of the special Passover meal.

The Seder begins with prayer and then sanctification and drinking of wine. Next, hands are washed and the vegetable (usually parsley) is eaten with the vinegared water. One Matzah is then broken some of which is used for Afikomen (desert) and other is left on the table. Next , comes the retelling of the exodus story followed by the blessing and drinking of wine, washing of the hands, blessing of grain product , blessing of Matzah and then eating of Matzah. Bitter herbs are then blessed and eaten followed by the paschal offering and dinner. After dinner is Afikomen (dessert), followed by a saying of grace, blessing and drinking of wine, praises to God (from psalms), another blessing and drinking of wine. The meal is then closed by a few words stating that it is completed, a wish of the messiah’s soon return, which is followed by hymns and stories which close the evening.

The second email that you send a woman is perhaps the most important one that you can send in order to meet her in reality.

It is in this second email where you must tell her that you are taking the next step with or without her (not in those words however), that step being meeting in person.

More than likely your first meeting will be something casual like coffee; however, to make sure the odds of meeting her stay in your favor you don’t want to directly invite her for coffee online.

Primarily, because agreeing to meet for coffee means nothing without a time or date in addition coffee isn’t something that you have preplanned ahead of time by yourself.

Instead what you want to do is invite her to something that you already have planned within the next couple of days and ask for her phone number.

It should look something like this:

I find it much easier to click with someone in person, with that in mind this Wednesday I will be at the Fair around 8, if you can let’s meet up then or you can give me your phone number so we can set something up later.

What this does is give her options both of which are winning situations for you and it shows her that you have a life in the real world as well.

More importantly it forces Serial Online Daters to show their hand and protects you from wasting your time with one.

What better place is there to stop by on a 70 degree Tuesday, March evening than at the local microbrew bottleshop? In the mood to pick up something good for embibing while watching the hockey game tonight, I picked up a few known good picks and then, out of the corner of my eye, spied a new addition in the cooler selection roster. Could it be?

Yes, it was, one of the microbrews I’ve been wanting to try but haven’t had the $40.00 to cough up for a whole 24 bottle case (crazy Pennsylvania liquor laws). Troegs Nugget Nectar has been high on my wish list lately, and luckily my local bottle shop just got a supply in and decided to stock it in the general assembly section of the cooler row.

Troegs is an independent microbrewery located in Harrisburg, PA and has long been known, especially amongst us Pennsylvanians, to put out some very high quality and tasty microbrews over the years (one of my seasonal favorites being the Christmastime issued Mad Elf, but more on that one later).

Anyway, I picked up two 12 ounce bottles and, needless to say, by the second bottle I just had to post a few notes on this very impressive Imperial IPA offering (to be accurate, the label touts this as an Imperial Amber). Pouring my slightly chilled bottle into a standard 10 ounce beer mug I am greeting with pungent hop aromas wafting up, out and all around the mug, sink basin and nearly the entire kitchen area in which it was poured. This one really eminates an evident “have you been drinking?” clue even if you’ve only just poured one into a glass to sit and admire the sight of it.

The sight of it however is not its strongest pint…I mean point (Freudian slip there, sorry). It did boast a fairly respectable head of about two fingers that stuck around for maybe three or four minutes. But the thing that really struck me was the absolute clarity of this brew. A lighter amber color in my mug, it was essentially a crystal clear presentation, carbonated bubbles streaming everywhere. It reminded me much more of maybe a Yuengling lager than a finely produced craft beer.

When it came to actually finally tasting it, after all of the previously written thoughts swirling through my mind, it was heaven on earth. This is truly nectar of the gods. As I’ve sample many stronger IPA’s in my time, and given the aroma, I was expecting a more standard run of the mill grapefruity type IPA. This one gave off the grapefruit flavors but not in a most astringent manner. There was a malty, almost creamy backbone there that very classily offset some of the commonality of the boasted high level IBU’s (93ish IBU’s as per the bottle label for those keeping track).

Lacing on my mug was highly prevalent and it transferred well to a somewhat slick feel on the palate but not in an annoyingly obtrusive way. A pleasant aftertaste of sip #1 quickly led to #2 and so on.

On the quick, I would say I could picture myself downing a six pack of these on a hot summers day while doing yard work. But upon closer inspection of the bottle, the 7.5% ABV rating would make me seriously consider otherwise. This one is extremely drinkable, almost to a sessionable point but it’s due to it’s incredible balance of all factors involved.

Despite my initial predispositions, and Nugget Nectar’s predominant assault on the ol’ olfactory, Troeg’s Nugget Nectar doesn’t evolve to obscene extremes in any one particular area except for it’s highly overall enjoyable drinkability. My impression is one of a high expectation, leading to complete validation with some meandering surprises along the way, a microbrew with an amiable character and one that I will remember and look for in the months and years to come. I can honestly say that I will be seeking out an entire case (yes at the $40.00 price tag) on my next visit to one of my local area distributors and I will highly recommend that you do too if given the chance.

Troegs Nugget Nectar checks in as a 8.25 rated microbrew in my opinion. Go out and try it today!

In a body building program, the exercises that you do can make all the difference between an effective program and one that won’t do much good. The good thing is that there are many, many body building exercises you can incorporate into your workout that will help grow your muscles and keep you fit and trim.

For big legs, you’ll want to do a lot of barbell squats and dead lifts. The resistance you are putting on your legs when you perform these types of exercises will push your muscles to make them grow. That’s the point of an intense workout program in the first place. Lifting weights with your legs instead of your arms will help the quadriceps and hamstrings become tight and fit.

When working your arms, the body building exercises you should count on will consist a lot of barbell and dumbbell curls and well as bench presses. It’s easy when performing these exercises to just concentrate on lifting the weights, but what you really need to do is focus on the strain the weights are putting on your arm muscles. Really push them as you are lifting and feel how they are working in response.

Great abs are formed much in the same way as any other muscle group. They need to be worked, strained, and pushed in order to become toned. You can get that toned, sculpted look by doing simple sit ups and crunches, but weights can help too. Try hanging from a chin up bar and lifting your knees up, or get on a machine specially designed to tone the ab muscles.

When working the upper back, a pull-down bar machine will make all the difference in the world. This is a two handled curved bar that is attached to weights with a pulley system. You pull the bar down with your shoulders behind you.

It’s important when choosing body building exercises that you pick the ones that you are physically able to do. Then be very conscious of the way the exercise is supposed to be performed. If you don’t pay special attention to your form, you risk injury which can set back your body building program significantly.

Do your research on what types of body building exercises will work specific muscle groups and then incorporate them into your workout regimen. Pick a variety of exercises that will make your body everything you dreamed it could be and do them on a regular basis. The reward is a toned, fit body that you can be proud of!
