Peace begins in the mind. Anyone who wants to live peacefully has to start working on calming down the mind, thoughts and worries. There are various techniques to do so; one of them is of course meditation.

People subconsciously long for peace, so why do they fight each other? Why are there always groups of people who fight other groups? This kind of situation has been going on from the beginning of the human race. Deep thinking on the subject will bring one to see the absurdity of this situation.

Please set aside a few minutes thinking on the following ideas. What is a human being? There is a machine, the body, which is alive, because of the spirit that animates it. I won’t get now into why and how it was created. The bodies of all human beings on the planet Earth are built in the same way, and are made from the same stuff. There are no bodies made from some more precious metal than others.

Then there is the Spirit. There aren’t many spirits, but just one indivisible Spirit filling the whole Cosmos. It is the same Spirit filling and activating all the bodies in the Cosmos. There is no one spirit better than another, because it is the same Spirit manifesting through all the bodies.

True, every body looks different from another, but yet they are made of the same stuff. There is a difference in way the brain and nervous system function, which means there is a difference in the way that the Spirit can manifest through each body. Some brains and nervous systems convey through them more easily and smoothly the energy of the Spirit, and others do not convey it so easily. It is the same as electricity. The electric current flows faster and with less hindrance through certain metals than others.

Between the body and the Spirit there is the personality, the ego. It comes into existence between of the Spirit and the body, when these two unite. I won’t enter into explanations what it is and how it comes into being, except saying that the pure Spirit manifests and sees the world through this personality. It is like looking at the world through some sort of eyeglasses, and here starts all the trouble in the world.

The personality, which is the ego, is composed of thoughts, ideas, habits and memories. A person living in a certain society grows with this society’s ideas and beliefs, no matter whether these ideas are positive or negative, true or false.

People are born into a certain societies, tribes, nations or religions, and seldom change their ideas and beliefs. Later, as they grow up, they join, clubs, support certain sports teams, join certain societies, political parties or other groups. People with same ideas and beliefs often join and unite with people having the same ideas and beliefs. If their beliefs are positive or harmless, it is all right. The trouble begins when they start thinking they are better then others, and when they start molesting or hurting other groups.

This gets more dangerous, when people regard others as members of one group, as a unit, which on the material, human level is true, but not on the spiritual level.

Look at a flock of fish. A fisherman does not distinguish between one fish and another in a particular flock. They all look the same, and all he wants is catch some. People under the effect of emotions behave in the same way. If they are angry with a particular person, because of something he has actually done, or because they erroneously assume he or she had hurt them, they try to hurt everyone connected with that person, even if they are innocent. Too often they do not distinguish between the members of a group. That is why one group of people fights another group, one country fight another country and one religion against another religion. Isn’t it futile and ridiculous?

Suppose two babies were born to a certain family, and one of them was taken for adoption by a family in another country or of a different religion. Each baby grows in a different society, with different beliefs, goals and behavior, yet both of them are brothers. They grow to see the world in completely different ways, and might even fight each other one day, as citizens of two countries or members of different religions. Doesn’t it seem absurd? This is all due to the way they were brought up, and to the way their minds, thoughts and beliefs were shaped.

The aim of a human being should be to rise above the ego, above thoughts and beliefs. One has to look at the world through the eyes of the Spirit and not through the eyes of the ego. From the point of view of the Spirit, the ego is only an illusion and is temporary. Why should one be enslaved by thoughts that come and go? Why should one harm others because of certain of thought that rule his or her life? Why should one accept certain thoughts and beliefs and reject others? Thoughts ate like clouds that pass through the sky. You are the sky, not the thoughts. You are one with everyone else in the world, an inseparable part of the One Spirit.

Peace and real freedom come from within, when one is able to rise above the mind, above the ego, and to able to live in the Spirit and look at everything from the eyes of this Spirit. You can do that. You can start today. How? By changing the way you think, by making inner changes, by inner work and through meditation.

There is nothing more important to your prospects than their prestige. They treasure it. They’ve worked hard to get it. In their opinion, it’s who they are. And although they might never brag about it, they’ll sharply pay attention when you let them see you appreciate it.

Because this desire for recognition is so strong, social psychologists have discovered in this sharp attention an ironclad persuasive law. When you use this law properly, you’ll get more qualified leads. And here is the added bonus. When you get more qualified leads using this persuasive law, you’ll close these leads faster.

Let me explain how this persuasive law works.

Social psychologists like Robert Cialdini have observed that your prospects have a mechanical response to requests that use this type of persuasive laws. You’ll get a mechanical response every time you request attention from your prospect, when giving due respect to their prestige. This response will trigger their intuitive appreciation for you, making you instantly more credible.

There is no big secret in the idea that compliments get you far with your prospect. But we must understand how powerful this “appreciation” response is and why we don’t use this rule more often.

Paying attention to your prospect’s prestige is simply about valuing your prospect’s human nature. When you weigh their prestige honestly, you’ll get more qualified leads.

And when your prospect responds by liking you, they’ll be making a small commitment to you. Getting this small commitment from you prospect opens the opportunity to persuade them that your product is what they need. Also because of this small commitment, your prospect will want to be consistent with their behavior, and will thus stay with you longer in your sales cycle. They will even initiate closing the sale faster than you expected.

Use This Persuasive Law in Ways that Gets You Results

Dan Kennedy, a leading copywriter, has seen this principle work in many ways. In his book, The Ultimate Sales Letter, he writes:

“I have a client who markets expensive (i.e., $5,000 and up) home-study courses on business and self-improvement. At various times, he has required prospective purchasers to listen to seven hours of introductory material and sign an official-looking affidavit attesting that they had done so before they were permitted to buy. Another client, a trade school, requires prospective students to furnish letters of reference.”

Asking prospects for this type of work upfront works because it appeals to the prospect’s desire to be recognized for their prestige. Your prospect is not just like everybody. They desire to be part of an elite or inner circle. They feel complemented by the fact that a company deemed them important enough to ask them to watch the videos before talking to them.

Depending on the honesty of the letter and its presentation (if it’s worth their prestige) the prospects will watch the video and sign the affidavit. When they do that, they’ll be making a commitment to you that’ll be hard for them to break . . . they hate to be inconsistent with their behavior.

This persuasive law depends on you honestly appreciating your prospect’s prestige. The reason this is hard to do is because we have a problem honoring others in our egalitarian culture. But when you can see the value in your prospect’s prestige, then you’ll have no problem seeing how you can structure your lead generation around it.

If you can honor others above yourself, you’ll have a definite competitive advantage because you’ll be able to use this persuasive law honestly. Remember that chances are your prospect can see easily through deception, pretension and false flattery.

One Powerful Tactic To Double Your Event’s Effectiveness

Here is one tactic you can use. Remember the idea is to leverage your prospect’s prestige by inviting them to join an inner circle or elite group:

1. -Selectively -invite prospects to a webinar or a special event. ensure the -invitation comes from your CEO. The selection has to make sense and -give the honest impression that you’re asking your prospect to -join this group because they deserve it. For instance, if you invite -CEOs, make sure you invite only C-level persons of about the same -size organization.

2. -In -an invitation worth their prestige, make sure you specify why you -specifically selected them to attend.

3. -Match -the quality of the webinar or event to your prospect’s high -expectations.

4. -Provide -value to your prospects, even if it’s not directly related to what -you’re selling. For instance, you can invite a notable speaker to -talk about the big-picture software trends. Use every detail of the -webinar or special event to reinforce the idea that you appreciate -your prospect’s prestige.

5. -Make -sure you know what your next step is regarding those you invite. If -you prepare a persuasive plan beforehand, you can design a call of -action before the webinar or special event ends.

I know webinars and special events are popular now. But using this tactic can pull a lot more of your prospects, shorten the sale cycle and close more sales.

For instance, a few years ago, Walker and Showcase Software teamed up with IBM to offer a webinar. They sent an unusually shaped and exclusive invitation to C-level prospects, followed by emails. The topic, the presenter and the technology of the webinar matched the exclusivity of the invitation. The result? Walker and Showcase pulled 75 to 80 attendees for this monthly event. Based on their past experience, they only expected 25.

Although it works every time when well done, I do not see it used often. Usually organizations fail to leverage the prestige of their prospects when presenting webinars or special events.

For instance, I once attended a special event that featured a presentation by Clayton Christensen, a distinguished Harvard professor. -He was superb, and the organization delivered a very elegant and professional event that included an excellent lunch.

The event was well executed. But the organization invited all that were willing to pay a fee to attend the event. Although I left satisfied with a copy of Professor Christensen’s latest book and a few good ideas, I didn’t feel appreciated.

In spite of attaining some valuable information, I had no more commitment to anyone in the organization than before. They had wasted an opportunity to close more sales.

Four Principles That Gets You the Most From Your Webinar

For this tactic to provide you with more leads, make sure your invitees feel they’re joining an inner circle or that you honestly appreciate their prestige. In order to get the most out of your webinars or special events, here are four principles you need to pay attention to.

1. -Similarity. -Invite those people who appear to be similar in standing, position -and background. Additionally, make sure the host is also of similar -stature, and the speaker is someone

the guests think is credible.

1. -Rapport. -Your host and those working the event have to be

attuned to the peculiarity and personality of the guests. Gain rapport by responding alike to behavior and interests of your guest. For instance, if you invite mostly A-type persons, make sure your host is an A-type person.

Believe me, they owe you something because they must to be consistent with these beliefs and emotions.

This is why they will most likely give you an opportunity to persuade them. When you have a product that does take care of their pain, they’ll close the sale sooner than you expect.

1. -Pay -attention to your prospect’s prestige and get more qualified leads.

2. -Your -prospect will like you as an automatic response to your appreciation -of their prestige-this is human nature.

3. -When -you can honor others above yourself, you can honestly appreciate -your prospect’s prestige.

4. -When -putting together special events or webinars, consider using this -persuasive law.

5. -Make -sure your guests get a clear idea that they have been invited -because of their unique standing and deserve being part of a special -inner group.

6. -Pay -attention to the principles of similarity, rapport and compliments, -and get everyone focused on a common problem.

7. -You’ll -get more leads that cost a lot less to close. They will close -themselves sooner than you expect.

The world around us looks so real, and to proclaim that it is only an illusion may seem sheer nonsense. How can it be? Yet, it is possible to accept this idea. I believe you agree with me, if I say that the body is some sort of an extraordinary machine. It is made up of a combination of materials, but it functions as a unit. Can you say confidently that you are the body? Are you the hair that is cut and thrown away when you go to the hairdresser? Are you your fingers nails, nose, legs or thighs?

The body changes through the years, are you this changing form?

Can you say that you are a particular thought? Many thoughts pass through the mind each day. They are like a movie that passes in front of your eyes. Sometimes the movie is interesting, and sometimes it is boring. Sometimes it engenders happy feelings sometimes it causes the rise of sadness or anger. Do you remember a thought that you thought an hour ago? Yesterday? How can these thoughts be the real you? You think them, but you are not them.

The same thing goes for your feelings. It is not true to say, “I am angry”, “I am sad”, and “I am happy”. It is truer to say, “I am letting now a feeling of anger, sadness or happiness to occupy my consciousness for a while”. You, the basic you, stay the same, while feelings come and go. You are not your feelings, which change constantly.

Then who are you? The mind cannot describe what is beyond it, because it has not been there. It can understand mental descriptions, which only give it a clue of the reality beyond it. To know who you really are, you have to transform your awareness beyond the mind. You are beyond the physical body, feelings and thoughts. You are the eternal, impersonal consciousness that created and infused life into this conglomeration of body, feelings and thoughts that you call “me”.

This homogenous, indivisible, complete Consciousness manifests in everything. It is the life principle of the manifestation that you consider to be yourself. The manifestation, which is the combination of body, thoughts and feelings, is nothing without this life principle. We can certainly say that the Consciousness is the only real thing, and every manifestation is just a creation, and therefore not permanent, eternal or real in the sense that it can exist by itself.

Can you become aware of this great Consciousness? Yes, of course. You are it. You are letting thoughts and feelings cloud it. If you constantly pay attention to the outside world, then it becomes very real for you. If you find a way to detach yourself from it, and turn your attention within, to the Consciousness beyond the mind, you can tear off the screen of illusion, and live consciously in this great Consciousness.

Silence of the mind is the prerequisite to awakening spiritually. Only when the mind is silenced and there are no thoughts, you realize who you really are - the vast, eternal Consciousness.

This is what has been called spiritual awakening or enlightenment. This is what yogis, saints and seekers on the spiritual path seek. It is here and now. All you have to do is change the way you view the world. You have to learn to dis-identify yourself with your body, feelings and thoughts, and develop true detachment. Through constant meditation the mind is made quiet. Then, from deep inside will raise a great silence, peace, life, consciousness and being. This is the real you. This is enlightenment.

The way to spiritual awakening is open for everyone. Only attachment and erroneous thoughts and concepts hide it. It can come suddenly, and it can come gradually. The funny thing is that you do not have to search for it, and you do not need to reach anywhere. All you have to do is dive within with a quiet mind, become aware of this inner, eternal underlying consciousness and stay there.

When you are spiritually awakened, your life will probably go on as before. You may teach and you may not. You may write about your experiences and you may not. You will still have to eat, sleep and take care of the physical life, though you know through your experience that everything is just an illusion.

If you view a movie with detachment, you may enjoy it, yet you will not be moved by what happens in it. You know it is just a movie, the projection of light and color on a screen. You see it, but it does not cause thoughts or feelings to arise. It is the same with the world. The world is not real. You, your real “I”, live in an undifferentiated eternity, yet the body seems to continue to live in a created world.

When you are spiritually awakened nothing can influence you anymore. You are beyond life and death. You will still have to provide food, clothes and a house for the body, yet, whatever you do, you will do with inner detachment. You may go on acting intensively in the world, yet remaining uninvolved in consciousness, as if outside of the world.

The power of the mind creates your world - the illusion you are living in. Thoughts and imagination are creative, and they mold this illusion. As your thoughts are, so is your world. When you awaken to your Consciousness, your mind will be quiet, but it will be focused, and you will be able to use it more effectively.

When you awaken to your real Consciousness, and manage to stay in it more or less permanently, you may disregard the power of the mind, or you may use it to mold your illusion - your world, though by now you stop believing in its reality. As the “real world” continues to be seen, why not help yourself cope with the material necessities by using the creative power of the mind?

You can choose the images to be reflected on the screen of your world. The thoughts you focus on become your “reality”. This is the secret of creative visualization. With your mind power you change the appearance of the illusion. What you do is just create a different illusion.

You may say that when you awaken spiritually, you will be beyond the world’s illusion, and material things will not matter any more. This is true, but yet, the illusion has to be lived. You have to eat, pay bills and take care of the body. It is true, you will approach these matters in a completely different way, but you still need to take care of them. Even an enlightened master has to eat, drink and sleep.

Going beyond the mind, beyond the illusion of the world, and awakening spiritually, puts a great power and responsibility in your hands, for then you have the power to influence the world. Your awakened consciousness is an immnese power that can stimulate the spiritual awakening in others. As all Consciousness is one, calming down your mind, and becoming conscious of your Consciousness, influences the whole of Consciousness.

If you are using your own credit and resources to finance the houses you build, you may want to consider a “One Time Close” construction loan for your homebuyer. It is a permanent loan that covers both the cost of construction and a modification to permanent financing in one loan. Unlike traditional housing practices, where the builder borrows construction money to build the home and the home buyer pays off the builder with a permanent end loan, the purchaser borrows the money, pays the interest as the house is built, and the Builder gets paid for his work. What a plan!

Under the OTC program, the homebuyer takes out all the financing to build the home and the loan is closed prior to construction having begun.

The loan is funded as the house is being built through construction draws to the contractor/builder. As the construction draws are funded, the borrower will pay interest only payments as the builder draws funds to build the home. Once the construction is complete and the loan is 100% funded, the lender will modify the Construction Rider into the permanent Note and the borrower’s house payments become a traditional mortgage loan transaction. This process can generate substantial savings to the borrower over the course of the home building process. NOTE: OTC transactions are NOT the same as a Construction to Permanent transaction. A true Construction to Permanent transaction occurs when a borrower converts an interim construction loan into a permanent mortgage. This is considered a “two time close” transaction.

The One Time Close loan program has advantages for everyone involved:

For the Builder The loan is made to the Borrower. This allows the Builder to use their interim financing lines for other properties. (Or not use it at all!)

The Borrower does not have to go through the credit approval process again when the home is completed, unless the homebuyer changes their idea of how to repay the loan at modification. This eliminates the danger of job/career changes, additional debt, or buyer’s remorse. Speculation is taken out of the project because the home is “pre-sold.”

Any interest charge that is usually calculated into the sales price of the home becomes profit. Ta-dah, Take another look at your bottom line!

For the Realtor The realtor’s commission is typically paid at closing, eliminating the wait until the construction is complete to be paid.

For the Homebuyer The loan is closed and ready for funding (draws) immediately by the lender. The Homebuyer and Builder communicate with the lender throughout the entire loan process.

And, Homebuyers generally need not worry about going through the permanent loan credit approval process at the time the home is completed. The Homebuyer can finance up to 95% of the value of the home after completion. This means they need very little cash to close (program specifics apply).

As there is only one closing, the Homebuyer saves the costs associated with title and appraisal fees on a two time closing.

Now, who is going to do this great financing for you? Well, you could go to your bank, and find they have an OTC program, and it might work very well for you, or it might work well for only 50% of the people you sell houses to, and so you’re back to doing financing for the other 50%,

Or you could develop a partnership with a loan officer (you knew that was coming, didn’t you?) who knows the OTC process, (that’s a learning experience!) and who has lenders to fit every homebuyer.

I’d choose a loan officer relationships with many lenders because they know one size doesn’t fit all borrowers. One who has relationships with major banks in the US who do one time close construction loans, and do them for homeowners, second homes, even investors. One who does loans with full documentation, and stated documentation. And that cover most credit circumstances.

There are lenders who put builders through a rigorous approval process (as if you were borrowing the money) and lenders who just want to see liability insurance and a license.

At the bare minimum, you’ll need to furnish contracts (for the lot sale, if applicable, and the construction of the home); plans and specs, a detailed list of costs, and an after completion value appraisal.

The homebuyer submits a standard mortgage application and documentation to support it. The homebuyer is credit approved, the construction is approved, and the two of you meet at the closing table.

Normally, the lot is paid for, the real estate commission is paid, permit fees are paid, and the first draw is paid to the builder to begin construction. Subsequent draws are paid direct to you, based on completion schedules, usually within 48 hours of requesting the draw.

If you shop for a loan officer, I’d recommend that you look for one who has a relationship with multiple lenders who do the One Time Close loans, and who do a minimum of five or six a month, so they know the process. If you have inventory that you’d like to move, as you transition to using the OTC loans, your broker should also have programs to help you sell those properties.

Take some time out to look at styles and construction of cases
for the period that matches your movement and dial. If you are
not lucky enough to be able to get access to any and to have
hands on and get a close look, you will have to scan as many
books as possible. It goes with out saying a good source of
pictures can be found at your local library.

2. Keep Your Eyes Open

Museums and stately homes give a great opportunity to get close
up and have a good scan. A friend of mine once asked a stately
home permission to photograph and take the dimensions from a
table they had so he could make a copy, and believe it or not
they said yes. I’ve never tried it but it might work for a clock
case.

3. Auction Houses

Let’s not forget the old auction houses these can be a great
source for research. Get the catalogue for any photographs, and
then get yourself down to the auction on viewing day and you can
then get a close look at the style with its veneering, stringing
and all its decorative features, and also look inside to see how
the case was constructed.

Once you have drawn up the case you are going to make, with as
much detail as you can put on it, you can then compile your
cutting list.

Listing all the parts you will have to make to finished size,
you can then calculate the exact amount of timber you will need
to buy from the timber merchant and order the veneers and
stringing or inlay if necessary. It’s also a good time to source
and purchase the fittings you will use on the case i.e. hinges,
finials, patera and column caps.

Paint removal is no longer a difficult task with the advent of the heat gun. This handy tool is particularly successful at removing paint from most surfaces if proper care is taken. The temperature can be regulated to make sure that the area does not become damaged due to overheating.

The instructions must be read carefully to know the correct temperature for the type of material you are working with. It would be best to experiment on any object you would not mind scorching as holding the heat gun too close or for too long over an area causes it to scorch, and you would not want to scorch any valuable furniture.

The heat gun is used to heat the paint as much as required to make it malleable and thereafter it can be scraped off with any stripping tool of your choice. Gloves should be worn during the heating process and one should make sure to direct the hot air away from one’s hands. Once the paint starts to soften you must scrape it with care and keep an old towel or rag in hand to wipe off the sticky paint on the stripping tool.

Even the thickest layers of paint can be removed with a heat gun from any surface. The heat gun works especially well on wooden surfaces. An example of such a process would be the restoration of your antique furniture to a state of previous beauty.
