The right support group can not only help you cope with IBS, it can also provide you with plenty of information about the condition, as well as open your mind to alternative treatments you may not have considered. For instance, many IBS sufferers find that herbal remedies help them manage their symptoms.

The roots, stems, leaves, flowers and berries of plants have been used for centuries for medicinal purposes in order to treat, relieve and prevent a number of illnesses. Of course, different herbs are used to treat different ailments. As far as herbal remedies for IBS is concerned, the following are the herbs that are most effective in alleviating symptoms.

Peppermint
Peppermint is an effective IBS treatment because mint calms the muscles in the stomach, intestines and uterus and increases gastric juice production. Mint also acts as an effective pain killer as it helps to block pain signals to the brain and numbs the digestive tract. In addition, mint is anti-bacterial and helps relieve indigestion, gastrointestinal cramps, gas, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea.

Peppermint can be taken in the form of tea. Peppermint is also available in enteric-coated peppermint oil capsules.

Peppermint should be taken before meals to prevent symptoms.

Fennel
Fennel is highly effective at relieving and preventing bloating, gas, indigestion and stomachaches. Fennel encourages gastric juice production and has anti-spasmodic, antioxidant, antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, anti-carcinogenic and antibacterial properties.

Fennel is light green-brown seeds and can be taken in the form of tea. You can also chew fennel seeds. Fennel can be taken daily, and making it apart of you daily diet will help prevent gas and bloating from occurring.

Ginger
Ginger relieves many gastrointestinal problems including indigestion and severe cramps and nausea. It aids in digestion, improves intestinal muscle quality, and has some anti-inflammatory properties.

Ginger is available in fresh and dried gingerroot, both of which are highly effective for treating IBS symptoms. Ginger is usually taken in the form of tea.

Chamomile
Chamomile is effective at alleviating gastrointestinal spasms and tension. It can also be useful at relieving indigestion and gas. Chamomile is also known for its sedative properties and has anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, anti-fungal and anti-peptic properties.

Chamomile is a flower and it is usually taken in the form of tea. Chamomile is best taken at night before bed due to its natural sedative properties.

Note: Chamomile is a type of daisy, therefore, if you are allergic to daisies (ragweed included) you shouldn’t use chamomile.

Caraway
Caraway is anti-microbal and has anti-spasmodic effects. It encourages gastric juice production, sooths the muscles in the digestive tract and helps relieve gas.

Caraway is a dried seed and is usually taken in the form of tea, or can be chewed hole.

Anise
Anise is anti-spasmodic and an anti-fungal that helps to settle the stomach and aids and regulates digestion which helps to relieve and prevent chronic diarrhea and constipation. It also helps to stimulate the production of gastric juices, and relieves nausea, gas, bloating, and cramps.

Anise comes in the form of small, black, seeds. It is often taken in the form of tea, but seeds can be chewed.

Oregano
Oregano is an anti-spasmodic that stimulates gastric juice production and reduces and alleviates bloating, gas, stomach cramps and diarrhea. It is an effective muscle relaxant.

Oregano is plant leaves that are either fresh or dried and brewed in a tea. Oregano is also available in enteric coated oregano oil capsules.

All of the above herbs mentioned are considered safe and can be taken daily without the risk of short-term or long-term side effects. That being said, you should talk to an herb specialist about the herbs you are interested in before taking them, as well as your heath care provider.

Most herbs can be found at food and holistic stores.

“Relaxation means releasing all concern and tension and letting the natural order of life flow through one’s being.” - Donald Curtis

I am pleased to announce that my theme for 2007 is the Year of Relaxation. Why would that be? Well, first of all, it feels so good to relax. But, even more important, we know from the Law of Attraction that relaxing and going with the flow is the best way to allow in the fulfillment of our desires - the best way to let in what we have been asking for.

With that in mind, I invite you to sit back, take a deep breath and enjoy the Magic of Relaxation as you read this guided meditation:

I RELAX
I RELAX and breathe
I RELAX into my natural state of Well-Being
I RELAX and know that I can be and do and have whatever I desire
I RELAX and feel at peace
I RELAX and feel safe
I RELAX and feel loved
I RELAX and feel comfortable and confident
I RELAX and know that there is only a Source of Well-Being that flows
I RELAX and know that All is Well

As I relax and breathe deeply, I allow Well-Being to flow to me. As I relax and breathe deeply, I allow Life Force Energy and vitality to flow to me and through me. The more I relax, the larger dose of Well-Being I enjoy. As I relax into this wondrous awareness of my natural state of Well-Being, I breathe in the refreshing, rejuvenating Life Force Energy of the Universe. I relax and drift merrily merrily merrily merrily gently down the stream. My entire body is relaxed and I glow with a youthful exuberance. I am grateful for all the magic in my life and I watch with amazement as everything I desire comes to me easily and effortlessly.

My only work is to relax and breathe, relax and breathe, relax and breathe. I can do that. I can do that easily. Everything happens with ease as I go with the flow. Every day I open to more and more Life Force Energy and good things are eternally flowing to me. Well-Being abounds. I am happy and appreciative. I know that I am safe. I know that I am loved. I reach for thoughts that feel good. And I continue to reach for thoughts that feel even better until I am in a state of bliss. I know that all things are unfolding for my benefit.

Everything I desire is flowing to me as I gratefully let it in. Everything I desire is flowing to me as I bask in my natural state of Well-Being. My only job is to relax and breathe, relax and breathe, relax and breathe. I continue to open, relax, breathe and draw in a continuous stream of Well-Being. I love knowing that the entire Universe is supporting me in the fulfillment of my desires. I RELAX and know that I am safe, that I am loved, and that truly All is Well.

As the meditation ends, take a moment to savor this peaceful state of Well-Being. And please accept my invitation to return to this guided meditation any time you would like to re-experience the Magic of Relaxation.

Crime still doesn’t pay, even if it’s phishing. And although phishing may seem like a new word to many, especially with the latest updated Internet Explorer browser that is said to detect possible phishing activity on websites, it is an old term for old criminal activity involving technology.

With regards to computers and the Internet, phishing can include the following illegal activities (and more):

Attempts to gain private information like credit card numbers with expiration dates and other details to make false transactions later on with your credit.

Attempts to gain user ID and password information so that others can fraudulently use your account(s).

Attempts by an entity to purposely misrepresent a business or persona generally via electronic communications (like spoof emails, private messages or instant messages) but also over the phone, in order to commit fraud.

Brief History of Net Phishing

Early records of phising activities show fake instant messages at AOL as unscrupulous persons posed as AOL representatives seeking to verify account information with unsuspecting AOL customers. When AOL customers logged in through the bogus links in their communications and entered sensitive information, or gave the info via instant messaging communications, their information was captured by the criminals. The fraudulent activity got so out of hand that finally AOL had to attach this statement to their communications, “no one working at AOL will ask for your password or billing information”.

Phishing on the web quickly spread out through many channels with a focus on financial sites, with Paypal being one of the largest targets of continual phishing activity. Criminals try to duplicate the site and Paypal emails often complete with nearly official-looking headers and other Paypal graphics and website colors. Criminal activities include:

- Emails sent to Paypal members asking them to sign in via a link in their bogus emails to update their account information, thus allowing the criminals opportunity to capture the user ID and password into their real Paypal account.

- Fake receipts sent via emails to Paypal members telling them someone has purchased something through their Paypal account, enticing the members to log in ‘through’ the link in the bogus emails as above and give out private information.

- Fake emails to Paypal members that confirm an email address has been added to their Paypal account, scaring people into clicking on the bogus link in the email communications once again, as above, in order to capture private access information.

To avoid phishing activity as best you can, do not ever log into financial - or other online sites via email and other online communications. Always - ALWAYS - -access the site link yourself through the domain name and log in to your account to see if anyone has left you a message or performed any other activities as mentioned in the emails. Or seek the site’s Support for more help.

How To Prevent A House Fire By Cleaning Your Dryer Vent

If your dryer isn’t drying your clothes like it used to, you may not need a new dryer. A dryer duct clogged with lint, reduces airflow so your dryer doesn’t dry as efficiently as it used to. One of the major signs that it’s time to have your dryer vent cleaned is the length of drying time. It should only take 30 to 45 minutes for the average size load of clothes to dry. If you notice that it is gradually taking longer to dry a load of clothes it is more than likely a venting problem.

Dryer lint is extremely flammable. In fact, clothes dryers cause many more home fires each year than chimney fires do. According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, there are an estimated annual 15,500 fires, 10 deaths and 10 injuries associated with the dryer vent. Several hundred people a year are also subjected to carbon monoxide poisoning from improper dryer vent setups. The financial costs come to nearly $100,000,000 per year. In some cases faulty appliances are to blame, but many fires can be prevented with proper dryer venting.

Lint is the biggest culprit here. As you know from cleaning out your lint filter, dryers produce very large quantities of lint. Most people assume their lint traps catch all the lint, and that all they need to do is clean them out after each load. However, a significant amount of this lint is not caught by the lint trap and builds up inside the dryer vent pipe.

A clean dryer vent reduces energy and saves you money, increases the life cycle of your dryer, helps prevent dryer vent fires and will dry your clothes in less time. A good rule to go by is if your dryer vent is longer than 8 feet, have it cleaned out once a year.

Safety Tips

Clean out lint trap after every use.

Wash the lint trap screen with warm water and soap every month to remove film.

Do not run dryer when no one is home.

Take special care when clothes have been soiled with volatile chemicals.

Clean behind and under the dryer where debris can build up.

Clean lint inside the dryer and dryer motor areas.

Have the dryer inspected by a professional.

Have your dryer duct cleaned every year by a dryer vent cleaning specialist.

It was the same thing since I was 15. Wake up in the morning, look in the mirror hoping for clear skin, only to find several more disgusting blemishes all over my face that I would have to spend all morning trying to cover before leaving the house.

I tried everything from soaps and lotions to prescription medication from my doctor. Some helped, some made the problem worse, and I started to notice that my skin, whether it cleared or not, got extremely sensitive and would turn red at the drop of a hat. If I got emotional, my face was flushed. Too hot, too cold, same thing. I looked like I was embarrassed ALL the time. And it’s embarrassing to look embarrassed when nothing is bothering you.

It wasn’t until I was in my late twenties that I finally had a doctor who took me seriously. Mortified that I was still breaking out despite everything I’d tried, I asked my doctor for something new to give me clear skin. He looked closely, then again, and said, “That’s not acne, you have rosacea”.

Finally! A proper diagnosis. Turns out everything I’d been using on my face was fine when I was a teenager, but was not suitable for the real problem I had now. Rosacea.

Rosacea can look like acne, with the redness, bumps, pimples and pustules, (which is why it is often called adult acne) but there is a huge difference. Rosacea is actually a disorder of the blood vessels in the face and involves inflammation, and can also affect the eyes. If untreated, the facial flushing can occur more often and persists for longer periods of time, until finally the tiny blood vessels become visible permanently. The most severe cases can be disfiguring.

My doctor said that many things can trigger flushing, including excessive heat, spicy foods, hot beverages, alcohol, caffeine, humidity, and being too harsh with my skin. He suggested a gentle cleanser (I really like Spectrogel now) and prescribed a topical antibiotic gel which is specially formulated for the treatment of rosacea.

What a difference! I no longer use cleansers or pimple creams meant for teenagers, ever, and I am never without a backup tube of my prescription. I still blush when someone embarrasses me, but I don’t have the facial flush that sneaks up on me for no reason and refuses to fade. I wear a lot less makeup, and I hardly have to spend any time covering up blemishes.

Don’t be embarrassed. If your doctor dismisses your skin condition as a problem from your teenage years that you have to put up with, ask questions. It is worth it to finally get to the root of the problem, and when you start treating it correctly, you’ll be amazed at the results!

Ingrid Tiessen writes about health and lifestyle issues, and knows the joy of being able to control rosacea.

How To Use Our “Famous Index” To Your Best Advantage

Chapter 8 of 14

Over the years we have created and used a little phrase that really is our benchmark in terms of our success. We call it the “FAMOUS Index.” The index acronym stands for the following:

F Famous
A Athletes
M Make
O Our
U Uniprise
S Successful

…and they will make your uniprise (or enterprise) successful as well. We have been fortunate enough to surround ourselves and our clients with some of the games greatest, who have performed admirably over the years. Being selective, intuitive, passionate, cognizant, and above all, sensitive to our client’s wishes, has provided us all with a great sense of accomplishment. While accomplishment and high fives are nice, that’s really not why anyone is in business. We use our “Famous Index” and profile to make sure we are bringing the best possible solution to the table for the least amount of money.

Our recipe for success goes far beyond what a celebrity endorser might do or not do for a company or product. We take the time to learn what our clients are really looking to accomplish. While we are celebrity endorser brokers, we are also marketing brokers. Our vast experience in practical, everyday, problem solving marketing solutions allows us to identify those things which are pertinent and then fine tune a plan that best fits the needs of the customer and celebrity endorser.

While FAMOUS may be our moniker, a combination of intuition and common sense allows us to strategically place the right celebrity endorser in the right situation. We hope that through this e-book you to will begin to fit the pieces of the puzzle together. It really is simple once you have the entire puzzle laid out in front of you.

To use the “Index”, simply make a list of words, and phrases, in order of importance, for each word in the acronym, and then start applying them as a formula for success.

As a practical exercise we will go through each word with you and give examples of what you want to start thinking about.

Famous - Some questions you might want to ask yourself are: How famous does my celebrity endorser really have to be? What will I be using this person for? Do I need the “A list” or will the “C list” suffice? What qualities does this famous person need to have? Do they need to be male or female? What is the target market for my famous person? What medium will the famous person be used in? Does this famous person have national brand appeal or is it local? What do I need?

Athletes - As you no doubt have surmised, we deal with a lot of athletes. That does not mean we don’t have contacts with other celebrity endorsers, it just means that our comfort level has been securely established with professional athletes. In terms of questions in this index category we might ask questions like the following: What products has the celebrity endorser been successful at promoting lately? What products have they not been successful with in the past? If they were not successful, then why? What demographic is this celebrity endorser most likely going to appeal to? Do they have regional or national reach? Have they had any problems with the law? What about scandals?

Make - Will our selection make or break the company or product? How will we make this the best promotion possible? Will we need a total product makeover in order to develop a sound strategy followed up by basic tactics?

Our- With any celebrity endorsement it really is about “OUR”: our results, our budget, our expectations, our niche, our commitment, our reach, our strategy, our tactics, our follow-up, our long term goals, our competition, etc.

Uniprise - Our uniprise is really the same as enterprise, except with the “oneness” twist. It really is about “one” and what we do with the celebrity endorser and how they affect the “one”…our uniprise. When all is said and done, the one thing that will matter most are the results, both immediate and long-term. With no accurate way to gauge the results, it is really futile to even undertake a celebrity endorser position. We are constantly teaching and preaching that in order to quantify the results, systems need to be in place that will help determine the value of the one event or promotion. There are numerous ways of achieving this, but it’s ultimately up to you and your company to settle on the one fastest, easiest, surest, and most accurate system of measuring results. Your uniprise needs to be able to measure the results…one by one.

Successful - Without the celebrity endorser, your success will be guided by your current marketing efforts. Once the celebrity endorser becomes part of the overall strategic plan, only then will you be able to measure the success of their involvement. Success can mean a lot of different things to a lot of different people and only you will be the judge of what your ultimate success or failure is by choosing to use a celebrity endorser. When done with proper execution, promotion, lead-time and commitment, the end result should equal success. If not, then often times there is an underlying and much deeper-seeded problem with the business itself. Many times, no matter what your choice, you will have seen the same result. Make sure your company or product is on solid ground and that you are only trying to give it a boost rather than achieve far-reaching goals.

Scientific Studies of Lithium Supplements In a 1997 study, researchers at the National Institute of Mental Health stated: “We found that long-term exposure to lithium chloride dramatically protects cultured rat cerebellar, cerebral cortical, and hippocampal neurons against glutamate-induced excitotoxicity… This neuroprotection is long-lasting, occurs at therapeutically relevant concentrations of lithium.” (1)

Simply stated: “Taking long term supliments of Lithium protects your brain cells from all kinds of damage.” This has startling implications for the treatment of many diseases like Alzheimers and other mental disorders. But, it also has a huge potential impact on longevity and mental functioning.

Longevity Benefits Dr Gregory J Moore G.L. in Lithium-induced increase in human grey matter. (Lancet 2000) states, “Rodent studies have shown that lithium exerts neurotrophic or neuroprotective effects … Grey-matter volume increased after 4 weeks of treatment. The increases in grey matter probably occurred because of neurotrophic effects.” This is an indication that a brain with damaged cells can regrow them and even increase in size. This is stated in another article below.

In “How To Enlarge Your Brain”, Dr. James Howenstine, MD. writes: “Medical students are taught that there is a slow steady loss of brain cells with aging culminating in gradual shrinkage of the brain. Lithium has long been known to be an effective therapy for Bipolar Disorder (manic depression) when taken in high doses. However, recent research has shown that low doses of lithium preserve and renew brain cells. Eight of ten persons given lithium showed an increase in brain grey matter of 3 % after only 4 weeks.

By promoting brain cell regeneration and increasing brain size lithium can function as an anti-aging nutrient for the brain.” Many other Benefits Dr Howenstine also cites research stating, “Ten years of research by 27 counties in Texas disclosed that the incidence of homicide, rape, robbery, burglary, arrests for drug possession, and suicide were higher in counties whose drinking water contained little or no lithium. Counties whose drinking water naturally contained higher amounts of lithium had significantly lower rates of all these crimes. These counties with higher levels of lithium in their tap water experienced fewer hospitalizations for homicides, mental illness, psychosis, neurosis, schizophrenia, and personality disorder.

Low dosage lithium benefits alcoholism and mood disorders seen in heavy users of alcohol and their relatives. This therapy is often obvious to family members when depression, premenstrual tension, temper flareups and irritability cease affecting the individual. Lithium has been helpful in reducing aggressive behavior in children. High dosages of lithium helped two adult women with severe anorexia nervosa regain 26 and 20 pounds in six weeks. Both women experienced improvement in behavioral problems.”

Should Lithium be added to drinking water? Dr Howenstine thinks so, “The answer is yes, particularly for parts of the country where lithium water levels are low. Placing lithium in the water supply would almost certainly lower crime rates and would also improve the productivity of many emotionally troubled persons.”

In conclusion, there are many things we can do to increase our health and longevity. Most of them are much more difficult than others. Taking a lithium supplement is not only simple, it is very low cost, about $2 a month. I don’t see why everyone wouldn’t want to contribute to making the world a better place by gaining a little mental health edge.

This subject of making up my mind to gain victory over the things that try to defeat me are a constant reminder of who I am in Christ. The more I trust in Jesus, the more the enemy of this world tries to entangle me into doubt and hopelessness. Satan wants me to forget that whatever is over my head, is already under my Savior’s feet. No matter what appears real in front of my face, I don’t stay focused on them. I have been given a new vision. It is one that can see farther than a perfect 20/20, which by the way, I no longer have. This new vision is spiritual. I can see things that don’t exist in the natural. This kind of faith and vision of not believing what this world tries to tell me doesn’t come eaily. It has taken me several years of devout study of God’s promises to me since I am now His child, an heir to the kingdom of heaven. It’s taken years of worshipping Him, and praising Him and knowing He hears me. It is years of experiencing Him in my life, not only what I have learned through His Word. He has already shown me so many times that He cares and loves me. Since I know this without a shadow of a doubt, I am getting better equipped to fight a good fight. No devil in hell will ever own me. My mind has gone through years of transformation, a renewing of my thoughts and getting grounded in the real truth of the matter.

“…if indeed you have learned Him and have been taught in Him, just as truth is in Jesus, that, in reference to your former manner of life, you lay aside the old self, which is being corrupted in accordance with the lusts of deceit, and that you be renewed in the spirit of your mind, and put on the new self, which in the likeness of God has been created in righteousness and holiness of the truth.” Ephesians 4:21-24

Knowing the truth which is in Christ, our salvation leads to the fullness of truth about God, man, creation, history, life purpose, relationships, heaven, hell, judgment, and everything that really matters. This knowledge is what leads us to a renewing of our minds. To remain in sin is to be spiritually separated from God and that leads to death. But to be saved in the blood of Jesus is to be given a new mind set. It’s the ability to see clearly and not be deceived any longer by the great deceiver, Satan. It’s the ability to be victorious over life’s battles.

I keep getting led back to the Israelites on their journey out of Egypt. These people were chosen by God to be His own and He chose Moses to deliver them to the Promised Land. If you know anything about their journey, then you would know that their trek in the wilderness was only an 11 day trek. But for each complaint God added an extra year of wondering. It took them 40 years, so that was a lot of grumbling and complaining. Why didn’t they learn after the first year? Better yet, why can’t we learn from them today? Our complaints about God not doing enough to help us only keep us wandering longer and longer. Why can’t we just accept the fact that God gives us trials to test our faith and make us stronger? The sooner we stop grumbling, the sooner we will arrive to our Promised Land. It’s our ability to trust in Him when life digs a well for us that He will give us a way in which to get out. We know there will be wells dug for us in this life, so we just have to make up our minds that God will give us a way out of them. It’s knowing where there is a well, there will also be a way. It will take strength to get past it, and He will give us a helping hand. But, if we choose to see the worst in everything, He will prolong our destiny.

It’s easy to be charismatic and on fire for the Lord when He delivers us from our enemies. We will sing and dance and give Him praise. The Israelites did this too.

“Miriam the prophetess, Aaron’s sister took the timbrel in her hand, and all the women went out after her with timbrels, and with dancing. Miriam answered them, ‘Sing to the Lord, for He is highly exalted; the horse and his rider He has hurled into the sea.’ ” Exodus 15:20,21

But the second that “feeling” of being special disappears, we wimp out. Where is God now that I need Him? Can’t He see that I am in distress? We cry and hold a pity party. It took the Israelites all of three days to start complaining that God Who just rescued them from Pharoah, didn’t care about them anymore. They looked at the circumstances before them and didn’t believe that their Lord could or would help them again.

“Then Moses led Israel from the Red Sea, and they went out into the wilderness of Shur; and they spent three days in the wilderness and found no water. When they came to Marah, they could not drink the waters of Marah, for they were bitter; therefore it was named Marah. So the people grumbled at Moses, saying, ‘What shall we drink?’ ” Exodus 15:22-24

Did you catch that? They grumbled AT Moses. Who do we complain to? If we don’t learn to cry out to the Lord God Almighty, we will experience bitter waters as well. But Moses did what we also need to do by faith.

“Then he cried out to the Lord, and the Lord showed him a tree and he threw it into the waters, and the waters became sweet. There He made for them a statute and regulation, and there He tested them.” Exodus 15:25

Just when they thought all was hopeless, God did something for them again. Unless we ask Him, He won’t act on it. He wants us to come to Him and know that He is in charge. But He will test our faith. Even though God doesn’t make anyone obey, we should be more than willing to show Him that we are ready to obey Him. This is the test, it’s our willingness. God wants us to love and trust Him and do what is right before Him.

“IF you will give earnest heed to the voice of the Lord your God, and do what is right in His sight, and give ear to His commandments, and keep all His statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you which I have put on the Egyptians; for I, the Lord, am your healer.” Exodus 15:27

“If”… this was and still is a condition that He desires we follow. He promises to deliver us out of the wells IF we are willing to follow His Son Jesus and accept Him as the Lord over our lives. In doing that, we know what He expects of us. Being renewed makes following Him a natural thing. When we turn our lives over to Him, He promises to give us an abundant life. We don’t even have to be perfect. We do have to trust and believe that He is Who He says He is and will do all that He says He will do. Being a loving God, He brought them a way out from their circumstances.

“Then they came to Elim where there were twelve springs of water and seventy date palms, and there they camped beside the waters.” Exodus 15:27

God gave them more than enough. Their well had bitter water, but He showed them the way to fresh water that would not run out. Just because things look bad at the time, we should learn a valuable lesson from this. Don’t focus on the circumstances or the wells of bitter water, don’t complain to others. Instead, cry out to God. He hears and He cares.

The more bitter the wilderness experience is, the sweeter the waters of life will be.

Is Your Frenzied Lifestyle the Cause of Heartburn?

What aspects can be the cause of heartburn in a hectic lifestyle?

Poor eating habits - There are different elements that contribute to poor eating habits. The first is eating a diet rich in foods that have a direct link to acid reflux (I.E. fatty foods, pre-packaged foods high in additives and preservatives, alcohol, coffee, tea. Etc.). Unfortunately, many of these foods make up the regular diet of those leading a hectic lifestyle.

To make matters worse, those that are controlled by their busy schedule tend to -

- Skip meals

- Eat at irregular times
- Ingest larger portions when they do eat
- Rush down their food
- Are physically active after eating

Each of these poor eating habits can be hard on your stomach. For instance, eating large portions creates a distended stomach that is full of food. This places pressure on the lower esophageal sphincter (LES). This pressure can result in stomach acid traveling back into the esophagus creating acid reflux, which can be the cause of heartburn.

Tobacco use - Tobacco can make acid reflux a more prominent problem. Nicotine is deposited in the back of the throat and can corrode the esophageal lining. Furthermore, tobacco also inhibits saliva production. Saliva is one of the body’s natural defenses against damage to the esophageal lining.

Poor sleeping habits - Lack of sleep can increase stress, and leads to the use of more caffeine stimulants such as tea, coffee and soda, which can increase the risk of acid reflux. In addition, eating before bed slows digestion. Other sleeping habits that can be the cause of heartburn includes sleeping without the proper elevation of your head (less than 6 inches) and lying on your back or stomach.

Stress - Although stress does not directly cause acid reflux it encourages the condition. The reason is because stress triggers bad habits such as eating fatty “comfort foods”, smoking, drinking alcohol, and eating late at night. Moreover, stress has been known to increase pain sensitivity.

Medications - There are a number of medications that can affect the LES and be the direct cause of heartburn. Some of these medications include -
- Tricyclic antidepressants - I.E. amitriptvlline
- NSAIDs (Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) - I.E. aspirin, ibuprofen
- Sedatives and muscle relaxants
To add insult to injury, not only can these drugs aggravate the esophageal lining, many people ingest them without drinking a full glass of water or lie down directly after. These actions can increase acid reflux risk. Additionally, repeatedly taking antacids to cure your heartburn can lead to negative side effects including headaches and stomach distress (I.E. nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and constipation).

Here are three ways you can effectively reduce the recurrence of acid reflux in your hectic lifestyle -

1. Control your diet and don’t rush through meals - Instead of skipping meals, eating out, or making pre-packaged dinners, consider eating small portions throughout the day. Make the time to eat breakfast, lunch and dinner and don’t rush through your food. Also, give yourself 20 minutes after you eat to digest. Drinking water can also help aid in digestion.

2. Give up bad habits - If you smoke, regularly drink alcohol, drink excessive amounts of carbonated beverages or those that contain caffeine, it’s time to cut back or avoid these practices completely.

3. Reduce stress - Engage in regular low impact exercise such as walking, swimming and bike riding. Make sure you get a goodnight sleep and take the time to enjoy activities you like.

Despite how hectic your life may be, it is imperative that you make an effort to reduce the elements in your lifestyle that can be the cause of heartburn.

Making your own flower seed wedding favor items has many benefits, including saving cost and having a lot of fun. Let’s see how you can do that.

A wedding is an expensive affair to say the least. On the other hand, it is also your very special day that you want to be absolutely perfect. You probably want people to remember your day for many years to come.

One of the decisions you need to make is what to give to your wedding guest as favors.

You could buy pre-made favors, which will save some time but will also cost more money.

Making your own wedding favors enables you to give your wedding guests exactly what you want. By giving them a packet of flower seed you give them something that they can use. Something edible as wedding favor seems to be the norm. However, once consumed the wedding favor is forgotten.

With flower seeds, when the flowers bloom your wedding guests can admire them and remember that they received the packet of flower seed from you at your wedding. One can say that the beautiful flowers will remind friends and family of the blooming love between you and your spouse.

Pick the flower seed to be of flowers that can be planted during the next planting season following your wedding. It’s of little use if you give your wedding guests a packet of flower seed during summer that can only be planted the next spring.

Give them flower seed as a wedding favor that can be planted in fall if your wedding is in summer, and flower seed for planting in spring if your wedding is during the winter.

To make your own flower seed wedding favors, the first thing you will need to buy is bulk flower seed.

Do not buy the small individual packets. It will be far more expensive than buying in bulk.

Secondly, you will need cards for the personalized message to your wedding guests and small containers to hold the flower seeds.

For containers you can consider tiny wedding favor buckets, small rectangular or triangular boxes, teeny-tiny shopping bags or beach bags, or any other suitable container that will fit your wedding theme.

Make sure that you buy the cards and containers from a wedding favor store, so that your wedding favors look professional and not like something picked up from a dollar store.

By involving friends and family in assembling your flower seed wedding favors, you can have a lot of fun.

You can even turn the “manufacturing task” into a series of social events where you can chat about the upcoming wedding while making your own flower seed wedding favors.

Chrystal Holman recommends these DIY wedding favor items that you can pick from, and these many options for bulk flower seed to give to your wedding guests as a long-term reminder of your wedding.
