Creating Effective Ads

Online advertising on the Internet leaves a lot to be desired. We have ads that emulate Windows-warning boxes. We have pop-ups and pop-unders. All of these are developed with the intent to make people notice them. However, most of them only end up irritating them. Advertisers, especially those with small budgets, can’t afford to waste money on ineffective buys. In order to optimize your advertising buys, you need to concentrate on improving your creative.

Here are some tips that might help:

Step 1: Define clear goals of your advertising campaign

The most important aspect of any advertising campaign is to have a clear objective in mind. You may be targeting a specific group of people, your initial aim may be to target at least 1000 internet surfers and so on and so forth. Have a well defined, clear purpose.

Step 2: Identify the most effective sites for achieving your goals

Sites that are most relevant to your product or service will, more than likely, be your best bet; but also consider larger sites or networks that can target the audience you’re trying to reach. They can be very cost-effective. If you have multiple products or services that appeal to various target markets, you’ll have to consider sites that reach all those various segments.

Step 3: Craft your message to fit the needs of the audience you’re targeting

This comes down to understanding the audience of the sites you’re advertising on. The message you use on a technology site to appeal to technologically savvy customers won’t have the same appeal for visitors on a small-business site. Focus your campaign.

Step 4: Content of your Ad

Pay particular attention to the content of the Ad. The content should be such that it clearly distinguishes your product or service from your competitors’. Have a catchy headline. The headline is probably the most important part of the Ad - It is the customer puller.

Step 5: Formulate the specific promotional messages that correspond to your goals

The promotional messages should concentrate on the major selling points of your product or service and have a strong call-to-action.

Step 6: Make the desired action clearly visible

This certainly doesn’t mean the desired action should necessarily blink, bounce or do flips, but it should be visible within an accepted format for the media you’re using. In the case of the Internet, underlined text links, “click here” text entry boxes, and pull-down menus are all ways you can make the desired action clearly visible.

Step 7: Design the ad so it looks like it belongs on the sites where you’re advertising

For instance, you may want to use the site’s font faces in your text, color schemes in your background, font color choices overall, and emulate images where appropriate. Try to conform to the environment so potential customers visiting the site don’t gasp in shock when they see your ad.

Step 8: Produce multiple versions of each ad

Create three or four versions of each ad, changing the promotional message, call-to-action, font faces and color schemes. This is especially important if you’re doing price testing or gauging reaction to specific promotions. By splitting your advertising buy among the various versions of your creative, you can then start to optimize your buy based on the message that works best.

Steve Oliver “Positive Energy” Smooth Jazz Music CD Review

Not sure what’s happening with me on this one, but it seems like the more I listen to it, the better Positive Energy gets. Positive Energy simply stated is one of Steve Oliver’s best CDs to date.

Refreshingly, this was one of those CDs I was able to just pop in and comfortably listen to from beginning to end. Every track is enjoyable and was pretty easy for me to listen to from start to finish.

Positive Energy is a pleasantly varied, mix of 12 tracks that are very well written songs by this clearly outstanding artist. Most of the songs display a lot of the kind emotion that makes for a really great listen. Seemingly drawing from what I can only imagine are his own personal experiences. At different points touching on the most real emotions of love, and the pain of failed relationships can certainly be heard.

Steve Oliver possesses the characteristic of being able to bowl you over with his talent alone. The kind of artist I really enjoy listening to.

Overall Positive Energy is excellent from beginning to end. One of those CDs that after a few listens the songs are just etched into your memory. A must have for the Smooth Jazz fan. Really spectacular from beginning to end.

While this entire album is really very good the truly standout tunes are Positive Energy [track 2], Day’s End [track 7], and Come On Home [track 10].

My SmoothLee Bonus Pick, and the one that got Sore [...as in "Stuck On REpeat"] is track 4, Ocean Blue. Outstanding!

Cultivating New Customers

Text links, banners and search engines are all ways to attract clients and build a customer base. It’s our buyers that’s we’re really talking about here. But the Web isn’t the only place to look for customers even for Web-based businesses. Some of the old traditional methods like word-of-mouth referrals still work just as well, and still bring me a fair bit of cash each month. Here are some tips to help you grab as many customers as you can while you’re setting up your business and getting your online marketing programs in place.

Know Your Market

Whatever your line of business, you’ve got to know your market. You have to know who your clients are, what they want and what makes them buy. Do the market research, check out your competitors, create a formal marketing plan-but take the effort to put yourself in the shoes of your buyers. Otherwise you won’t get any!

Bring Out Your Benefits

You might think you know what your product’s sales points are-you might even be dead proud of them-but the fact is, your buyers don’t give a toss about all the wonderful gizmos you’ve packed into your product. They just want you to answer one question: what’s it going to do for me?

That’s what all your marketing has to be about: explaining to your buyers how you’re going to improve their life.

Make Your Site Sing

It can take a fair bit of effort and not a small amount of time to create a website that works. But you can’t stop there. You’re going to have to keep updating it, checking it and making sure all the links and addresses work. It’s the first place to look when you notice your sales starting to drop, and it’s crucial to keep them coming in.

Be Alert for New Marketing Opportunities

You must always be alert for opportunities to make new business contacts and not allow yourself to be caught off guard when opportunities arise. It doesn’t matter if you’re out shopping or at a Chamber of Commerce meeting, make sure that you have professional business cards, brochures, etc. on hand-and don’t be afraid to use them.

Don’t Keep Your Business a Secret

Tell everyone about your business and your product. You might even consider sending out a mass mailing to everyone you know, telling them what you’re doing. Chances are, someone knows someone who wants what you’ve got, and friendly referrals usually bring the best business!

Find Repeat Customers

When it comes to building customers, there are clients who buy once-and clients who buy lots of times. It’s the latter that you want to pack into your customer list; they’re worth their weight in gold. Big companies are good places to prospect for repeat business (they have big demands and budgets) but always treat your repeat customers well. That might mean the odd discount or the occasional freebie, but the extra business should make up for it.

Get Checked For Prostate Cancer Now

If you have prostate cancer, are concerned about getting it, or if you’re looking out for the health of someone you love, this article can help. In most men, prostate cancer grows very slowly: most men will never know they have the condition. Prostate cancer is the third most common cause of death from cancer in men of all ages and is the most common cause of death from cancer in men over 75 years old.

Prostate cancer is normally a slow growth cancer that can take years before it becomes deadly. The most common cancer in American men, excluding skin cancer, is prostate cancer. Prostate cancer is the second leading cause of cancer deaths among men in the U.S.

Other symptoms might include unintentional weight loss and lethargy. Additional symptoms that may be associated with this disease are bone pain or tenderness, and abdominal pain. One symptom is a need to urinate frequently, especially at night.

If cancer is caught at its earliest stages, most men will not experience any symptoms. One prostate cancer symptom is difficulty starting urination or holding back urine. Weak or interrupted flow of urine and painful or burning urination can be symptoms to watch out for.

One downside to PSA testing is that health care providers are detecting and treating some very early-stage prostate cancers that may never have caused the patient any harm. A chest x-ray may be done to see if there’s a spread of cancer. What is called a free PSA may help tell the difference between BPH (benign prostatic hypertrophy), an enlargement of the prostate gland, and prostate cancer.

A prostate biopsy usually confirms the diagnosis. The decision about whether to pursue a PSA test should be based on a discussion between you and your doctor. A bone scan can indicate whether the cancer has spread or not.

Hormone manipulation is mainly used as a treatment to relieve symptoms in men whose cancer has spread. Prostate cancer that has spread (metastasized) may be treated conventionally with drugs to reduce testosterone levels, surgery to remove the testes, chemotherapy or nothing at all. Anyone considering surgery should be aware of the benefits, risks and the extent of the procedure.

Urinary incontinence can be a possible complication of surgery. Some drugs with numerous side effects are being used to treat advanced prostate cancer, blocking the production of testosterone, called chemical castration; it has the same result as surgical removal of the testes. Thoroughly discuss your treatment options and concerns with your doctor and other health professionals; it never hurts to get a second or even third opinion or more if necessary.

Radiation therapy is used primarily to treat prostate cancers classified as stages A, B, or C. Impotence is a potential complication after the prostatectomy or after radiation therapy. Surgery is usually only recommended after thorough evaluation and discussion of all available treatment options.

Medications can have many side effects, including hot flashes and loss of sexual desire. Surgery, radiation, hormonal therapy and chemotherapy all have significant side effects; know fully what they are before you proceed. What you can do now is begin to understand what exactly your treatment options are and where you’re going to begin.

If chemotherapy is decided upon after the first round of chemotherapy, most men receive further doses on an outpatient basis at a clinic or physician’s office. Surgery, radiation therapy, and hormonal therapy can interfere with libido on a temporary or permanent basis.

The one thing that you should not do however is rely on any information obtained from the Internet to make your final decision. With the advent of PSA testing, most prostate cancers are now found before they cause any symptoms. In the end, only you with the help of your doctors, knowing your individual situation, can determine the best treatment program for you.

How To Select The Ideal Business Server

A web site for the business that you are conducting is essential nowadays, and this implies the use of business hosting. The web site can be your online store, but it has to be stored somewhere. That’s why you will need to contact a hosting company, and then you will be able to choose from the business hosting options they have for you.

Finding a hosting company is usually the next logical step after registering a domain name. You can also find a company that provides both of these services, which could make things easier for you.

Now, as far as the hosting options go, you will have more than a few. The choice really depends also on the nature of the site you want to have, and the size of your business. The most important choice is made when deciding whether to store your site on a shared server or on a dedicated server.

The dedicated server has all the advantages when compared with the shared server, except for one though, which could make all the difference: the price. Dedicated servers don’t come cheap, and the costs soar to a few hundred dollars per month.

But it dedicated hosting has some undeniable advantages. First of all, you don’t need to share the server’s bandwidth with anybody else. In other words, your web site will not be slowed down by other high traffic web sites stored on a shared server.

Then, you can customize a dedicated server according to your own needs and desires. You can install your favorite operating system, your favorite pieces of software, in short, you can personalize it any way you want. You would not be able to do all these things on a shared server.

When deciding for a web hosting company, take your time and search for one which offers you with the bandwidth, disk space and applications needed for your web site. Make sure that you check the background of the company and you read some reviews.

It might be a good idea to tell the host a little bit about your intentions with your web site. What is the purpose of the site and how are you envisioning the web site? You can also ask the company’s assistant some questions about their equipment. Find out if they own and operate their own data center. Ask for some information on their data center and the specifications of their servers.

It is important to realize that a hosting provider, who may be ideal for one business, may not be suitable for yours. Most people make their final decision based on cost. However, I warn you to take your time and carefully consider what is available. After all, you want stable and reliable business hosting.

Classified Ads

Offline, classified ads are cheap little adverts that appear at the back of newspapers or magazines. They work well if you’re trying to sell your old Ford Escort or you’re looking for a new home for your tatty sofa, but they’re not too profitable for businesses aiming to keep repeat sales coming in.

That’s offline. Online, things are a little different. But not hugely different.

I post adverts on classified columns, but I don’t expect to make a lot of money from them. What I do expect though is an opportunity to test my headlines and ad copy before I start spending hard cash on AdWords, text links and sales letters.

That’s why I don’t bother with the dollar ads. If I’m going to spend marketing money, I’d rather give it to a search engine than a classified ads column. The return on sales just doesn’t justify it.

But there are places where you can place free ads, and you can actually do this on some of the really big sites like AOL and Yahoo. Even if I don’t make many sales, the fact that I’m getting my product in front of so many people certainly won’t do me any harm.
Occasionally, I’ll post an ad on one of these and monitor how many replies I get.
Normally people will send an email to you and ask “what is the product you selling, how good is it? and Is it real?

Market Timing - The Golden Rule Of Entering Trades For Big Profits

If you are entering ANY Trade and want to maximize profits you need to obey the golden rule of timing your trade entry correctly.

Most traders ignore this rule and time their entries incorrectly and lose. So what is the golden rule of market timing?

Let’s Find Out.

The Golden rule is:

Trade On Confirmation and don’t predict!

Many traders like to predict where prices are going to go with no confirmation from price action and impose their view or emotions on the market.

Let’s look at some examples.

1. Buying Into Support

A trader sees prices move to support and buys.

They simply hope support will hold however, there is no room for hope in the market.

If the trend is down assume prices will continue.

You need to wait for support to hold and price momentum to reverse this confirms the move.

The best way is to use a momentum indicator and the best one is the stochastic. Wait for price momentum to turn up on the stochastic and then go long.

The same logic applies to selling into resistance.

2. Buying a breakout

Buying breakouts from new highs is one of the most effective ways of catching the big trends and the majority start from new market highs NOT new market lows.

Most traders however psychologically cannot buy a new market high and miss the move

Why?

They actually choose to ignore the confirmation of a new trend and want to buy at a lower price i.e they want to buy the pullback!

Fact is however that most major breakouts don’t pull back - they continue and the trader never gets on board.

If a breakout occurs the market is confirming the trade to you so take it.

Waiting for the price to pullback is one of the most common errors in forex trading.

Of course, we all want to “buy low and sell high” but the real pros know to make money you need to:

“Buy high and sell higher”

Market timing means acting on confirmation.

In both the above examples you can’t buy low - You miss part of the move but this is the only way to trade to make money.

When a move confirms you trade.

People get obsessed with buying the lows. or waiting for the lows to be re visited and that’s why they don’t win.

Learn to trade on confirmation and use the best timing tool of all the stochastic indicator, which gives you short term price momentum.

Cinderella Man - Movie Review

Once a week my boyfriend and I will sit down to watch a movie. Every time we do, we run into the problem of what to watch. This movie Cinderella Man was an easy pick for both of us. A five star rating indeed!

Cinderella Man (2005 Release)

Starring Russell Crowe, Renee Zellweger, and Paul Giamatti.

Cinderella Man is just a given for both of us. Russell Crowe stars as James Braddock. The story takes place in the 1930’s, during the Great Depression. Braddock is stricken as hard by the Depression as the rest of the working world. When forced to take Public Relief and faced with losing his family, driven by his determination and the love of his family, Braddock once again rises to the top. The underlying motivation for him being first his family, and then the determination to succeed is truly inspirational. A simple man, he does whatever it takes to keep his family together and to put food on the table.

The reason I can watch this movie over and over is because of the TRUE “feel good” nature of the film. My boyfriend will say he loves the film due to the fact that it portrays a chivalry that no longer exists, and that Cinderella Man is one of the few movies that he can say portrays a “true” hero.

At the end of the movie, you are left with a warm feeling, a feeling that will stay with you for awhile. I definitely recommend this movie for movie night! It gets a five star rating from me, and is beyond rating for him.

Happy Movie Watching!

Marketing ROI - Make Sure Your Marketing Is Making Money

Today, if you ask any marketer what his biggest challenges are you will no doubt hear Return on Investment (ROI) at the top of their list. With competitive pressures, businesses more focused on profitable growth, and an increased need to do more with less, marketing professionals need to generate favorable returns on most - if not all of their marketing campaigns.

Upon first blush, this looks rather simple. Just take the total cost of your campaign, track it through to conversion and determine that the revenue generated is greater than the expense. However, most people make the mistake of assuming that calculating ROI is only involves direct expenses and revenue. There are other factors to consider when determining your return on investment.

In a moment, I’ll show you a quick formula to help calculate ROI, but before I do, let me explain the types of expenses you need to consider:

Direct Expenses. Any cash outlay you have to develop, create, and distribute your marketing campaign is considered a direct expense. For example, if you’re doing a direct marketing campaign, you’ll have to print your mailer, pay for postage, and offer an incentive. All of these factors are direct expenses because they cost you money.

If you’re marketing online with Google Adwords or a similar type of service, you’re paying for each and every click - this is considered a direct expense.

Indirect Expenses. An indirect expense is something you spend to in conjunction with your marketing efforts but doesn’t necessarily involve a cash outlay. For example, if you pay a copywriter or designer to help with your creative, their time and expense must be considered. Other indirect expenses might include your overhead such as rent, electric, phone, insurance, etc.

Now that we’ve identified some of your expenses associated with an ROI calculation, lets look at a specific campaign example and how we can determine our return on investment in a simple manner.

Example1: MarketingScoop, LLC decides to send a post card mailing to a list of small businesses promoting their directory service listing. Here is a list of expenses associated with the mailing:

Direct Expenses
Post card design-$100
1,000 post cards-$200
Postage– $500
Total $800

Indirect Expenses
Indirect Expenses X .25*-$200

A rule of thumb you can use to calculate your indirect expenses is to multiply your direct expenses by 25%. If you want a more exact determinant of indirect expense, you will have to record the amount of time attributed to this particular marketing project as a percentage of your annual ‘available working hours’. Then, multiply this percentage against your total business expense.

Based on our calculation above, total campaign cost equals $1,000. For this example, let’s assume that the campaign brings in $2,500 in revenue. Simply divide revenue by expense ($2,500/$1,000) to determine ROI. In this example, our ROI was 2.5.

Note: This is a Gross calculation which means that we have not subtracted any product related expenses. This gets into Net Income, EBITDA, and other stuff for the accounting team to figure out.

The key is to use this information as a benchmark for future campaigns. Instead of assuming that a marketing campaign is productive, you now have a basic measurement to evaluate it and compare future campaigns.
