From Paddling Pool To Swimming Pool

Owning your own pool is beyond the wildest dreams of most people. Many rumours exist about the cost of installing and running a swimming pool. In practice most people don’t really have much idea about what’s involved in setting up and running a swimming pool until they actually own one. In recent years, the introduction of a large range of PVC based above ground pools has brought the ownership of a swimming pool within reach of many more consumers.

These pools, generally referred to as above ground pools, are now offered in a range of sizes from several major global brands. Two of the most well known are Bestway and Intex. They have a selection of pools which range from the shallow 8ft diameter pool right up to deep pools over 20ft long. Shapes are slightly limited but are on the increase. Currently round, oval, square and rectangular pools are the norm. Most of these shapes can be found in both of the two most popular styles of above ground pool. These are the metal framed pools where the pool is situated in a metal frame. These pools can often be left up all year round and are the more robust type of pool. The other style has an inflatable ring around the top of the pool. This is inflated prior to filling. It acts as a float on the water and ensures that the top pf the pool stays above the water line. Both of the brands mentioned above also offer a hybrid of the two types of pool. Usually this hybrid can be found in the oval shaped pools. The larger pools are effectively as big as the in ground equivalents that many people would install if they could afford them.

Compared with installing a pool as a permanent feature buying and installing a flexible substrate pool can yield significant savings. Looked after, these pools will last for many years, although probably not as long as a permanent pool. Installation of these pools is usually a DIY job and requires little more than a level piece of land and the time to do it. Usually the assembly of the pool is quick and easy and within the space of a day you can go from empty garden to fully installed pool - although depending on your pool size and water supply it may take more than a day to fill the pool.

Once full the pool is usually ready to be used immediately. A mistake which is often made by many people is to use the pool in the same way as they have used children’s paddling pools. These pools are designed to be swimming pools. As such they are not designed to be emptied and refilled on a regular basis. Many are supplied with pumps and filtration equipment. This is designed to be used with conventional pool chemicals to keep the water clean thus eliminating the need to continuously empty and refill the pool just as one wouldn’t empty and refill an inground pool on a regular basis.

Treatment with chemicals normally follows the same sorts of routine that a permanently installed swimming pool would require. This can be time consuming and expensive but is essential to keep the water fit for bathing in. Without treatment pool water will become unsuitable for bathing in within a couple of days, often with algae appearing within 5-10 days. However, as with many products, as owning a swimming pool becomes more popular then technology on pool treatments moves on. For example several companies now offer method of treating swimming pools using salt as a sanitiser. Although the salt is cheap the units required to do this are not and the electric bill to run them can sometimes be significant. Others such as Chemipool in the UK are working with the chemical industry to formulate multifunctional liquids which are just added in the required dose once a week. This makes treating one of these pools both cheap, quick and easy.

Another area of development is in heating these pools. Again, as with their permanent counterparts, flexible above ground pools can often be heated with similar equipment to the traditional pools. Exactly what is required to heat the pool depends on the pool volume. If you require a heated pool it is worth spending the time and money to buy a heater which is sized for your pool. To small a heater will have almost no effect on heating you pool. Spending money on to small a heater is wasting your money. Some companies have developed solar panels to heat the water. The effect of these can be quite good for heating the water but they can be expensive to install. Some owners have made their own solar panels by placing a longer pipe on the return to the pool from the pump and weaving this backwards and forwards behind a plate of glass. Some very effective results have been informally reported.

6 Tips That Eliminate Mistakes and Rebuild Your Poker Bankroll

In the coming weeks I will try and cover the wide range of factors that play into each poker player’s decision when they go to battle around the green felt.

Today I’d like to address, 6 tips that eliminate mistakes and rebuild your poker bankroll.

AGGRESSION IS THE KEY:
Bet enough to make your opponents make a tough decision. They can either call with a weaker hand or fold the best hand.

RAISE WHEN YOU ARE FIRST TO ENTER A POT:
I see a lot of amateurs try and get cute and see the flop cheaply. All you are doing is giving away the strength of your hand, giving your opponents a chance to catch up, and you have no idea what they may have and no idea of where you stand.

STEAL THE BLINDS:
Put significant raises in when the antes have started. When you walk around a tournament, it’s not surprising to see the best players have all the ante chips. Every poker professional has bought cars and houses with the blinds they have stolen.

ANY TABLE IS BEATABLE:
If they’re playing too tight, then play more of hands. They’re
making the mistake of folding too much. If they’re playing too loose, they’re risking chips on inferior hands. Tighten up and punish them for playing these hands. And punish them severely!

DO NOT TRY TO BLUFF A CALLING STATION:
It’s something I’d do over and over again and kick myself every time I’d do it. I knew a player is going to call me even if he had third pair and I’d still try to bluff. It’s a weakness I overcame only when I understood the importance of paying attention to every hand and noting my opponents betting patterns.

PLAY WITHIN YOUR BANKROLL:
The most common mistake from amateurs and professionals alike is they undervalue the bankroll requirements. The statistical variations of the game are very large. Winning poker may be only one big bet an hour. The variations are unbelievably massive. Every poker professional has gone broke from playing too big. You have to respect the random nature of the game. Sure you can say you were unlucky when you went broke, but you did not have the bankroll to withstand the fluctuations, is the truth of the matter.

IN SUMMARY:
Eliminating mistakes as a poker player is the foundation of success. Put these 6 tips into action and watch your bankroll grow.

Lower Electricity Bills through Purposeful Landscaping

With the cost of energy increasing, we need to start doing everything we can to lower our electricity bills. Usually, people offer you habits or light bulbs to change. Many of us already turn off the lights when we leave a room or turn off or turn up/down the thermostat when leaving the house. What more
can we do?

The change in seasons brings a new opportunity to save on your electric bill: Landscaping. Planting for efficiency as well as beauty can make it worth the work.

Trees and shrubs are the easiest plants to use while planning your energy efficient landscape. When shopping, find plants native to your area to reduce the amount of additional watering. Whether you are in a hot or cold climate, trees and shrubs can be used to maximize the energy efficiency of your homes. This process has been used for generations in various cultures and climates around the world.

For colder climates, evergreen trees and shrubs can be planted on the northern side of the house to create a windbreak. Windbreaks can decrease the windchill factor and create an environment that helps your heater keep up with the cold. Shrubs can be used in hedgerows to catch snow as it is blown
by the wind. This effective use has been implemented for centuries in England, as well as other European countries. This will keep the snow from collecting against your house. Nearer to your house (about 1 foot away, full grown), you can plant vines and bushes to create dead air space. This space will help to insulate your home against the harsh winter and summer weather.

For warmer climates, trees can be placed to build shade and have a cooling affect on the house. Taller deciduous trees will shade the roof during the summer, yet let sunlight in during the winter. Lower trees should be planted on the west side of the house to shade the walls and windows from the hot afternoon sun. Another key place to shade in a warmer climate is the air conditioner unit. By planting shrubs that will shade the unit, you can increase its efficiency.

There are many ways we can help our homes to be more energy efficient that will not cost as much as a solar panel. By using purposeful landscaping, you can decrease your energy expenditures and create a beautiful place to relax.

A Gimpse Into Life In An NFL Locker Room

As a former NFL player, I spent a lot of my time in the locker room. As many people wonder what goes on inside an NFL locker room, here is a quick look.

As an NFL player, the locker room is our home away from home. This is where the team members become a family. This is where we bond and learn about each other’s different cultures, personalities, and view on life.

On an NFL team, there are people from many different walks of life. People are from different races, different parts of the country, they grew up with different values, different religions, and different cultures. Being able to get to know these people and learn about their life is one of the things I enjoyed most about the NFL. It was such a great learning experience to interact with so many different people.

So what do NFL players talk about in the locker room? We talk about the same thing everybody else does. We talk a lot about our wives, girlfriends, families, children, movies, music, our problems, and of course, a lot of joking around and talking smack. On every team there are a couple of guys who love to play pranks and keep everyone guessing as to what is coming next. It is a lot of fun.

Another fun thing to do is haze the rookies. Giving rookies a hard time is always fun and it helps build camaraderie. How do we haze rookies? Well, we like to get several team members together and go out for dinner with a rookie and then make him pay the bill. We also like to make rookies carry our equipment. To really embarrass rookies, we’ll make them get up in front of everybody and sing or dance. Sometimes we will give them a horrible haircut by shaving parts of their head. Sometimes we’ll shave off their eyebrows too. Embarrassing rookies is always good fun.

What is inside the locker room? The locker room is setup just like home to help players relax. There are couches, big screen TV’s, video games, and an attached cafeteria.

The locker room is also a place where we come together as a team to support each other, like when we lose a game or a player gets hurt or in trouble. The locker room is where a team’s chemistry is created and it is that chemistry that makes a team great when they walk out onto the field.

Connecticut Marriage License Requirements

You live in Connecticut but you are not sure of how to obtain a marriage license. Well do not worry I do. Well below I have outlined the rules and regulations for applying for and obtaining a marriage license.

You must have a government issued identification card. Such as your drivers license, visa, passport etc. You will need to bring your social security card if you have one.

You do not have to be a resident of Connecticut to apply and obtain a marriage license.

You must obtain a premarital certificate from your state health department. The certificate will go to the laboratory with your blood tests. You should contact your local clerk for more information.

Everyone getting married in the state of Connecticut must have a test for syphilis. Also any woman under the age of 50 must have a test for rubella.

You should make your medical appointment for all of your tests at least 2 months before you plan to wed. This way it allows enough time to receive all of your laboratory reports back.

For the marriage license, give the physician your complete name without abbreviations or initials as it appears on your birth certificate unless it has been legally changed.

The physician will notify you when the results are received. You must return to the office and sign the Premarital Certificate in the physician’s presence and at that time the results will be explained to you. When you receive your certificate you will give it to the county clerk when applying for your marriage license.

Their are no waiting periods to receive your marriage license.

The fee for the marriage license is $35.00 cash.

All ordained or licensed clergymen belonging to this state or any other state may perform marriages as long as they continue in the work of the ministry.

The license is valid for 65 days and only to be used in the state of Connecticut.

These are the latest laws and regulations for obtaining a marriage license in the state of Connecticut. Some times the laws change rapidly so we suggest calling your local clerk and confirming the information above.

Singorama - How To Avoid Being An American Idol Reject

I admit it.

My favorite part of American Idol is when they do the auditions.

I realize that many of the people trying out just want to get on tv. They aren’t singers; they only came out to meet Paula or to stick it to Simon. But then there’s that other special group of people auditioning who THINK they can sing well. They usually have an attitude. You know who I’m talking about, right?

These people never really learned the basics of singing. If you watch when Randy tells them, for example, that their singing is pitchy, they look at him like he’s talking about physics. Like they have no idea what pitch is. This article will look at a few music terms you should know before you audition for American Idol.

Pitchy

In music, people talk about sounds being “high” or “low”—meaning high-pitched or low-pitched. Pitchy means off-key. It means the singer wandered off key in places and was “off” on the notes. The singer didn’t hit the right notes.

Key

A key is the scale on which a piece of music is written, think of a key as the solar system… the sun being the key, and the planets are the rest of the sounds of the scale.

Nasally

When Simon says a singer sounds nasally, it generally means the singer is pushing too much air through their larynx, which causes a closed throat. This puts a lot of tension on the back of the tongue and also makes their jaw jut forward. With their jaw in a forward position, they can’t fully open their vocal cords.

There is a lot more to each of these terms. But basically, pitch and key, are rooted in learning how to read music. And nasally has to do with positioning your mouth so you sound your best. If you want to impress anyone with your singing, not to mention Randy, Paula, and Simon, you have to learn these things. Cold.

Find yourself an accomplished vocal coach or consider buying an online singing program. It depends how far along you are with your singing. But however you master the singing basics, you have to master them to avoid being an American Idol reject.

The Importance Of Proper Marketing

The world of real estate has evolved dramatically over the last decade. The arrival of the internet has changed the way people view and purchase homes and agents that do not spend the time and money to tap into this technology are feeling the effects. More and more the internet is the location where people first see the homes that they eventually purchase.

Marketing of homes is one of the main areas of the real estate business that has evolved alongside the education of the average buyer. These two things are closely related as buyers become ever more vigilant and choosy about their purchases. This had led them to seek more and more information in regards to their new homes and the internet has been able to provide this. In fact the agent website has become one of the single most important tools in a realtors arsenal.

However, there is more to marketing a home than simply posting it online and hoping for the best. There is a variety of secondary marketing that ensures a home will achieve maximum coverage on a given real estate market. This includes more traditional methods such as newspaper ads, flyers and signs and open houses. When you decide to sell your home, be sure to ask your agent about their marketing plan for your home. Make sure that all the avenues are covered and that there are no “holes” in the plan that could lose you a possible sale. A good measure of an agent’s ability to market a home is their track record. Don’t be afraid to ask an agent for references and testimonials, if they are hesitant to supply them with these, then you should be even more hesitant to give them your business.

How To Properly Handle And Store Clothing

Basically, metal hangers are cheapest type and the most commonly available. They are not, however, the best for your clothing. Depending upon their structure, they can damage your clothes, stretching them out of shape. Plain, wire hangers can leave rust markings and they are not always the sturdiest, bending under the weight of heavier clothing.

Select plastic or purchase padded wire hangers. They will not stain your clothes, nor stretch them unduly. Your sheer blouses and delicate outfits fare better with this type of hanger.

In some instances, it is better to rely on hooks. They can be hung over a closet, bathroom or bedroom door. Built to last, they can take the extra weight of heavy garments such as bathrobes. Pajamas and other casual wear-at-home clothing can be hung from hooks without worrying about wrinkling or damage.

Furthermore, one particular hook can be set aside to be used to hang your clothing for the next day.
Do not use dry cleaning bags. They do not allow anything to breathe. The same can be said of placing some clothing within plastic or air tight containers. Wool and silk are two materials that need to breathe. Keep them in out of plastic and away from air tight containers.

If you wish, you can use a garment bag for storage of bulky items such as sweaters or for simple t-shirts and blue jeans. It is not, however, necessary to hang either jeans or t-shirts. They can be placed on shelves or in your dresser drawers. Socks and panty hose can be placed in drawers, but they can also be hung in the closet in a shoe bag or large cloth bag. The advantage of using a shoe bag is you can organize the socks and hose by types.

Organization is the key to proper storage of clothing. You can orderly place your clothing in any number of ways. They can be hung according to function: blouses, shirts, skirts, etc., color and/or length. In some closets where the levels vary, either naturally or through the addition of stackable containers, it might be easier to hang them according to length.

There are some sections considered necessary when you divide your clothing. If you have special clothing, party dresses, and other special occasional clothes you might want to put them in a less prominent place. As for the seasonal clothing, place them in a storage area. They can be hidden high up on a top shelve or put at the very back of the closet. It all depends upon your closet’s capabilities.

There is one school of thought that encourages discarding all poles, replacing them with shelving. This might seem like a good idea, but it does not take into consideration wrinkling and the “fear of ironing” syndrome.

One final thought. When organizing your closet always sort through what you have and discard what you don’t need, never wear and no longer fit into. Culling your closet will make it easier for you to hang and store all your clothing.

Do You Really Have a Penicillin Allergy?

Ask any doctor or pharmacist how many of their patients report a penicillin allergy, and you’ll find an astoundingly high number of self-reported penicillin allergic patients. As much as 10% of the population says they have a penicillin allergy. But this number appears to be falsely high.

A true penicillin allergy may consist of symptoms including rash, hives, itchiness and most concerning are the symptoms of anaphylaxis: swelling of the mouth or throat, difficulty breathing and a drop in blood pressure. The latter symptoms often come on quickly and can be fatal if not treated swiftly.

Symptoms such as stomach upset, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or headache unaccompanied by the symptoms above usually are not related to allergy, but more due to actual side effects of the drug. If you have experienced these symptoms with a penicillin or related antibiotic, you probably do not have to avoid these antibiotics in the future.

Since many people may not know the difference between an allergy and a side effect, it is essential to tell your health care provider what types of symptoms you experienced when you had the “allergy”. This way the health care team will know how best to treat you if you have an infection. If it is not a true penicillin allergy, the medical team may not have to resort to a drug that kills a wide range of bacteria (increases resistance) or a drug that is much more expensive (increases wastage of money)!

Having said all this, what is the actual incidence of penicillin allergy? Surprisingly, it’s only 1-2% of all people! This is determined by skin testing, which can be performed if you are uncertain of the nature of your allergy, or if you don’t know if you are still allergic to a given drug.

There are many drugs related to penicillin:

Cloxacillin, amoxicillin, ampicillin, piperacillin are just a few close relatives that should be avoided if you have a true penicillin allergy.

Other more distant relatives include drugs called Cephalosporins, that begin with “Ceph-” or “Cef-”, such as cephalexin, cefuroxime, cefixime, cefoxitin. If you are truly allergic to a penicillin, there is still a small (around 1-2%) chance of reacting to these drugs, depending on the specific drug. Other drugs that may cause an allergy if you are penicillin-allergic include meropenem, imipenem, and ertapenem. Cross reactivity between penicillins and aztreonam is rare.

In summary, if you are unsure whether you have a penicillin allergy, the chances low that you actually do. But the only way to be certain is if you’ve had symptoms of anaphylaxis to a penicillin, or have tested positive on a penicillin allergy skin test.

Take a Hike - With Your Children

A nature hike is not only an experience worth remembering, but it is also extremely educational for people of all ages. While walking along nature trails, broaden your knowledge about the environment that surrounds you. Before going on your hike, consider brushing up on the plant and animal life that you will see, depending on the area you choose. Follow the clearly marked trails and make sure to pin point any poisonous plants that may be in your child’s reach. Most importantly, have fun with your child while experiencing the wild outdoors. Not only will you be able to bond with one another or members of your group, but you will also get an educational exercise in the world around you.

Going on a hike isn’t just fun, it’s also a chance to build leadership skills in your children. If in a group, consider making one child the leader. This trail leader may be able to choose which paths to take, or create games to play while on the hike for the group. Teach your child not only about the great outdoors, but also about life skills such as, sharing, cooperation and leadership. Follow these simple steps for an invigorating and safe hike with your children.

Ideas for What to Bring on your Hike:

*First Aid Kit — Bumps and bruises always happen with children. Enjoy your hike and be prepared for anything. Insect repellent, a bee sting stick, band-aides, and disinfectant cream are a must.

*Eye Protection for everyone! Even though you may be shaded by the dense forest trees, bring a pair of sunglasses to protect your eyes. Protection not only from the sun, but also from dust or pollen in the air can be prevented. Also, bring hats for you and your children. These will help to keep your head cool and the hike fun!

*Bring sunscreen on your nature hike. When it’s hazy outside the worst burns can occur. Protect your skin with a sunscreen of SPF of 15 or higher. Shield your child’s skin from the harmful rays and not only will you savor their youth for years to come, but you will also enjoy your hike that much more.

*Make sure to bring foods loaded with nutrients and low in fats. This will help to reduce risks of cramping or dehydration.

*Rain or Shine? Have you checked the weather forecast to see what it will be like on your hike? As you know, weather is one thing you cannot control. When you are in the depths of the forest or miles into your trail –the last thing you want is foul weather. Be prepared and check the weather as well as bring extra clothes just in case.

*Flashlights. The optimal time for you to hike, especially with children, is during the day. If it happens to get dark on your walk back, make sure that you have flashlights for everyone in your group.

Safety Tips for a Memorable Hiking Experience:

*Where are you? Even though it might be fun to go off the path, make sure your children know that it’s important to stay within adult supervision. Teach your children that it is better to look at new things with their eyes, not their hands. Foreign plants, trees and animals may be beautiful to look at, but deadly to touch. Also, stress the importance of trail markers. Children will like to find and follow the brightly colored markings found on the trees within the area.

*Take a break! Hiking is exciting — but don’t get worn out. Children tend to get colder quicker than adults do, therefore make sure that they are dressed in layers and bring plenty of fluids and light snacks for a quick “pick-me-up.”

*Listening skills — Make sure you keep your child’s attention at all times and do not lose sight of them. Their skills will be tested while on your hike. Teach your children to stay where they are if they do get lost. Equip your children with whistles in case they stray from the group. Or, bring along “walkie-talkies” for your adventure hike.

Most importantly, have fun on your hiking excursion! Hiking is an event that everyone can enjoy — and is educational! Let your imaginations run wild while experiencing the wild outdoors. Enjoy telling family stories as you trek the mountainside terrain, or sing camp songs along your journey.
