Vitamin K: Vitamin K also has a protective role on bones. Menatetrenone (vitamin K2) prevents fractures. Foods particularly rich in vitamin K include Brussels, sprouts broccoli, collard greens, spinach and lettuce. The bacteria in our intestines also produce vitamin K so its deficiency is rather rare. Since vitamin K affects clotting of blood, you must not take its supplements without consultation to your doctor.

Magnesium: Deficiency of this mineral causes thinning of bones. People with osteoporosis often have a malabsorption of this mineral, thus their bones as well as blood have a lower amount of magnesium. 250 mg to 750 mg / day of magnesium may decrease bone loss in these people. However, high amounts of magnesium maybe harmful to diabetes patients and people with kidney disease.

Fish oil and Evening primrose oil: Both these supplements have been linked to increase calcium absorption and increase bone formation.

Vitamin B12: Vitamin B12, which is generally given to cure pernicious anemia, also has been shown to increase bone density, hence it is now prescribed to prevent/treat osteoporosis as well.

Zinc: Its deficiency is linked to risk for osteoporosis. A study showed complementing calcium supplements with zinc works better than calcium alone.

Copper: This is required for normal bone synthesis. Most doctors recommend 2-3 mg of copper a day.

Boron: Its supplementation reduces loss of calcium and magnesium.

Manganese: Its supplementation has been reported to reduce fractures in some people.

Silicon: This mineral is needed only in minute amounts for bone formation. Its supplements have been found to raise bone formation in experimental animals.

Dog Training getting you down? Well for me it definitely was. It seemed that no matter what I did the outcome was the same. Sometimes I wondered what was harder- raising my son or raising my dog

I have a 2 year old Cocker Spaniel named Rocky which I have had since he was a puppy. He’s cute, adorable, charming and has a great sense of humor. He’s an actor and comedian and he’s good at both. Let’s face it, among the current comedians on television and the movies, Robin Williams is one of the top choices of viewers. Since earning his popularity in the 1970s, his name has never lost its sparkle.

Comedy comes oh so natural for this man, although he’s outstanding, too, as a serious actor. But well, it’s always the funny side that we love best because of the light and happy feeling that we get when we can laugh our hearts out. Did you know that Robin Williams’ interest in comedy began at a very young age? Being an only child, he spent more time alone developing his imagination and entertaining himself by memorizing the comedy records of Jonathan Winters. He also developed his quick humor as a defense mechanism against the constant teasing of classmates in the private schools that he attended. His funny side continued to show even until high school during which he was voted as the funniest person.

The actor’s penchant for comic relief never waned after high school. Although he was taking up political science in college, he also engaged in improvisational comedy. However, it’s interesting to note that Williams actually underwent formal training in drama initially at Marin College in California and later on at Juilliard. On the side, he worked as a mime to support his education. Eventually, he became a standup comedian at the Club Circuit after leaving the art school.

Robin got his first big break as a comedian after appearing in L.A.’s Comedy Store. That lucky appearance led to a regular gig on Laugh-In. He was later cast as a crazy space alien named Mork from Ork on one episode of Happy Days. The audience loved his portrayal of Mork’s character that producer Garry Marshall decided to give Williams his very own sitcom entitled “Mork and Mindy” which ran on TV for four years from 1978 to 1982. Of course, the show was a great success and catapulted Williams to fame making him one of the most popular comedians of the 1970’s and 1980’s together with Richard Pryor and Billy Crystal.

On the big screen, Williams’s first title role was that of Popeye in 1980. What followed were several films, both comic and serious ones. However, it was the 1987 film “Good Morning, Vietnam” that made him famous as a movie actor. His role as real-life deejay Adrian Cronauer who was based in Saigon in the 1960’sbrought out the best of Williams’ talent in both comedy and drama. He sure did impressed viewers with his hilarious comedy routines as a radio disc jockey and got their sympathy with his dramatic scenes outside of the radio station. It was no surprise that his great performance earned him an Oscar nomination for best actor.

Robin Williams had several other comedy films that were big hits like Mrs. Doubtfire in 1993 and The Bird Cage in 1995. He had a number of more serious films, too, but fans wanted him back on the comic trail. In 2006, he returned to what he does best - making people laugh - with roles in the comedy films RV and Man of the Year. This year 2007, reports have it that Williams is set to do four movies.

Unless you don’t know yet, Williams has actually recorded three comedy albums and has emceed Comic Relief, a yearly televised benefit for the homeless, since the 1980s. And as if that’s not enough accomplishments, just last January 9, Robin won the People’s Choice Award for Funniest Male Star. The Fat Flush diet plan was devised by nutritionist Ann Louise Gittleman who believes that the keys to being overweight are liver toxicity, waterlogged tissues, fear of eating fat, excess insulin, and stress. Like the South Beach Diet and similar diet programs, the Fat Flush diet plan is divided into three phases with the first phase being extremely restrictive. In phase one of the Fat Flush diet plan, you are told to consume 1,100 to 1,200 calories a day, which for many people will be far less than what their body requires. You also eliminate grains, bread, cereal, starchy vegetables, dairy products, alcohol and oils/fats (except flax seed oil).

After two weeks on the Fat Flush diet plan, or four weeks if you have more than more than 25 pounds to lose, you gradually increase your calorie consumption and add healthy carbohydrates and dairy products while avoiding the bad foods mentioned while following certain rules, such as having one protein food with each meal, not eating vegetables and fruits together, not having milk and meat together, and not drinking water with meals.

The Fat Flush diet plan claims that it “melts fat from hips, waist and thighs in two weeks” and that it reshapes and detoxifies the body. However, there are no clinical studies to support the Fat Flush diet plan’s effectiveness for taking weight off and keeping it off. Therese Franzese, M.S., R.D., director of nutrition at Chelsea Piers Sports Complex in New York City, says you cannot detox your liver or speed up your metabolism with specific foods. She also says that any weight loss that results from the Fat Flush diet plan stems solely from a calorie deficit.

In terms of physical activity and exercise, the Fat Flush diet plan recommends walking and bouncing on a mini-trampoline in the initial phases, with weight training coming in phase three. While I agree with the weight training recommendation, I’m left wondering how walking and a mini-trampoline, as the Fat Flush diet plan suggests, can be effective for a world where at least 400 million are obese.

Another factor to take into account is that the Fat Flush diet plan would be very challenging you are vegetarian or vegan as animal proteins play a big role in this diet. In addition, the Fat Flush diet plan can be costly since you have to shell out big bucks for supplements, powders, and oils, in addition to more fish and meat you may be used to buying.

In summary, the Fat Flush diet plan teaches some very important lessons such as the importance of drinking water, consuming healthy fats, eliminating junk carbs and caffeine, and limiting alcohol. However, like many diets the Fat Flush diet plan makes the mistake of recommending a low-carbohydrate and low-calorie initial phase which for many people can have lasting health consequences.

The VW Polo BlueMotion will feature its fuel efficient and low fuel consumption powertrain components under its sleek hood. VW Polo BlueMotion is equipped with a 1.4-liter 3-cylinder TDI engine capable of delivering a maximum of 80 hp (59 kW) at 4,000 rpm and produces 144 lb.-ft. (195 Nm) amount of peak torque output rotating at approximately 1,800 rpm. The engine is combined with a 5-speed manual gearbox along with VW fan and VW fan clutch on the cooling system. The American Automobile Association (AAA) and Parents magazine has recently collaborated to determine the vehicles in various market segments to be included in the 2007 list of their Best Cars for Families. Now on its 5th consecutive year, AAA and Parents magazine aim to determine vehicle models (including sedans, economy cars, minivans, sport utility vehicles, and crossover SUVs) that fits the driving characteristics as well as driving needs of families.

AAA and Parents magazine conducted several test drives for more than 100 vehicle models and evaluated them based on various criteria including fuel economy, cargo and luggage space, and safety features like air bags and child safety seats. Moreover, AAA and Parents magazine also considered the crash test results conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) and selected the vehicles that earned top ratings in the crash test.

Only 15 vehicle models in five major categories (three vehicles for each catagory) are included in AAA and Parents magazine’s 2007 list of Best Cars for Families. The complete list of the winners will be featured in the April issue of Parents magazine. In addition, brief description of each vehicle is also included as well as the reasons why the reviewers of AAA and Parents magazine included vehicle in the 2007 list of Best Cars for Families.
