Oily hair can be so frustrating! It can occur only minutes after washing your hair and it can cause the hair to look dull and lifeless. Whilst there are so many different treatments available out there, often many of them simply do not work. That is where home remedies come in!

Some Good Home Made Remedies to Beat That Greasy Hair!

It is thought that mainly people with fine hair have more of a problem with oily hair than anybody else. This is because they have more hair per square inch of the scalp, and the more hair you have, the more oil glands you have, hence a problem with greasy hair can be a lot worse if you have fine hair!

It is thought that greasy hair can be made worse by various things including heat, and the male hormone androgen. However, whatever the cause of oily, greasy hair, it is still a nightmare and luckily there is some home remedies to help!

Homemade Astringent

In order to clean excess oil away from the scalp, a homemade Astringent may be the answer. One way of creating a good one involves mixing equal parts of mouthwash and witch hazel, applied with cotton wool. Be sure to only use this on the scalp however as it could damage the hair or irritate it if there is too much contact with it. The witch hazel acts as an Astringent and the mouthwash acts as an antiseptic. If you find that you scalp is really oily, you could always use this every time you wash your hair.

Try an Acidic Rinse

Lemon mixed with a quart of good water such as distilled water, makes a great rinse. It is best to use the juice of two lemons and this can really help to reduce the oil on your scalp.

Also, vinegar often makes a really good rinse, though it does not smell as good as the lemon! It is better to use white vinegar and it is thought that two tablespoons of the vinegar mixed with one cupful of water should work perfectly. The vinegar acts as a tonic for the scalp and it clears any remaining soap away from the scalp, which can often cause oily hair to be weighed down.

Create a Good Shampoo

A shampoo you can create yourself includes using some of your regular shampoo (try and use one as mild as possible), and simply add 1/2 a teaspoon of Aloe Vera gel, and 1 tablespoon of lemon juice. It is best to use ¼ of a cup of your normal shampoo and blend all the ingredients together. After you have blended it all, wash your hair with it and then rinse thoroughly.

All fresh recipes should be stored in the fridge to enhance their shelf life. Usually they last for around one week and you should use it every day.

Baby Powder is not always Just for Babies!

If you are in a bit of a rush but your hair looks really dull and oily, you can always sprinkle a little baby powder into it, leave it to stand for around five minutes, and then simply comb it through. This in theory should soak up any excess oil in the scalp.

Overall, home remedies really can help as they are not as harsh as some specially designed shop bought shampoos and conditioners for oily hair. All the ingredients are natural and they are fairly inexpensive to create. There is no harm in trying them and who knows, you may even find the perfect remedy for your oily, dull, lifeless hair!

Gifts in Disguise

The highest motive in life is to be like water. It fights nothing or no one. It flows from and back
to its source and in the flowing it smooths and wears away all resistance.
Taoist Proverb

If you knew today that you wouldn’t get exactly what you wanted but that something even better was trying to make its way to you, would you step aside and open the door to invite it in? Or, are you standing at the peep-hole of life’s doorway, waiting to see what shows up before you risk opening the door?

If you weren’t resisting, where would life be taking you? Sometimes we are looking for things to
show up that matches the perfect pictures we have in our mind. We miss the opportunities that come dressed in disguise.

Recently, I was struggling with an important decision. I was feeling unhappy, and frustrated about my options. Rather than let go of trying to control the outcome, I was doing everything in my power to resist what was. Believe me, it was causing me alot of physical stress and needless suffering.

Then I had a dream about being in my car which was parked and wedged in between two other cars. Feeling stuck, I reacted by pulling the car forward onto the sidewalk. In the process, I hit an old historic building and it came tumbling down in pieces. Alarmed by what had just happened, I quickly drove to the courthouse to report my crime. I went through a crowd of people and finally found a bailiff to assist me.

I believe my dream was showing me two ways of proceeding with my waking reality. I could force my will which could result in destruction or, I could stop resisting what was happening and look for the answers in disguise.

The next morning I received the final clue which completely changed how I viewed my predicament. It came in the disguise of a customer service representative that I called to help me
with an address correction. This man was so helpful and pleasant to talk to that I wanted him to know it. He responded by telling me that it was because he was a happy person. He shared the following secret to his happiness.

A few years ago things were not going well for him. He realized that he couldn’t change what
was happening but that he did have a choice about how it would affect him. Now he wakes up everyday and makes the choice to be happy. Since he started making this a conscious, daily
choice his life has changed. He now has a great life.

I knew while talking with him that I was getting more than help with my address correction. I was receiving a gift about how to look at my own situation. It wasn’t what I expected to hear coming disguised in the form of a customer service representative.

Later that day, while driving down the road, I noticed a car in front of me. The license plate had the word “bailiff” on it. Confirmation that the universe had just sent me to the customer
service representative who held the answer to my dilemma. More importantly I recognized the disguise.

The truth is that none of us have control over anything or anyone. We only have control over our response to what is happening in our life. We have the ability to respond. We have the choice
to be happy or miserable.

The messy stuff in life is also part of the fabric of life. When we try to avoid it, by denying or resisting
it, we also avoid the opportunity to live authentically.

If you look at a piece of fabric or knitting, there is always one side that looks beautiful. Then, when you turn it over, there is the messy side. The side that contains all of the loose yarns and threads. You can’t have one side without the other. Both are necessary for creating the finished piece. And,
the same can be said about life. It’s not about perfection but opening to the life that
you are living and working with what life presents you.

Remember, there is always a gift in life and it often comes dressed in disguise.

Is It Really Possible To Control Oily Hair?

Oily hair, otherwise known as greasy hair, can be an absolute nightmare! You wash your hair, it looks really nice and clean, and then a couple of hours later it is oily and dull looking. How can that possibly happen?

The Causes of Oily Hair

Often, oily hair is a common complaint amongst people who have acne. This is due to the amount of excessive sebum. The problem is not actually with the hair itself, but with the scalp. The hair simply takes the oil away from the scalp.

It is more common for people with straight hair to have oily hair, than for people who have curly hair to have it. This is because it takes curly hair longer time to get the oil away from the scalp, than it does with straight hair.

The main cause of oily hair is down to the androgen, or male hormones within the body. They are responsible for the production of oil and the higher the androgen levels, the more oil they produce. Often we have more androgen levels during puberty, or males who are taking steroid enhancing drugs will also have higher levels of the hormone.

Other causes may include the time of year, and the overall temperature. If it is hot and sticky outside, then we are more likely to sweat and therefore our hair can get really oily. Over washing can also be a big problem for people who suffer from oily hair.

This is because our scalps naturally produce moisture to protect the scalp, but when we over wash our hair, it can wash away the natural moisture and the scalp will think that it needs more, hence you will end up with too much moisture in the hair, leaving it oily and dull.

Treatment Available

The treatment which you use for oily hair will vary depending upon the severity of it. There are hair products especially designed for oily hair which are not as moisturized as some other products. You should also avoid over brushing your hair, and cleaning your hair brush every now and again is a great idea.

Although over washing your hair can often cause it to become more oily, it is said that the hair should be washed more frequently than if it were dry. This is to make sure that the scalp is cleansed. If you do decide to wash your hair daily, make sure you are using a mild shampoo.

Also, oil can build up on your pillow case so always make sure that you wash your bedding frequently otherwise the oil will easily transfer to your hair and make it oily. Some women also find that the contraceptive pill can help with oily hair.

Strangely enough if you do not treat your oily hair, you could end up with acne on your chest, face and back as if you touch your hair, you will be touching the oil, which you will then spread onto other parts of your body, causing the skin to become oily too. Also, leaving the hair oily often causes more damage to the hair and it can lead to potential problems such as dandruff.

It is thought that the best shampoo available to treat oily hair contains lemon. There are various recipes you can find online which show you how to make your own hair care products. These are often better at treating any hair condition as you know exactly what is going into them, and they are completely natural so they are less likely to damage the hair.

Overall, oily hair can be a pain and it can be hard to get rid of but there are shampoos out there to help you. You could also speak to your doctor about other alternatives such as the contraceptive pill if you are a woman.

Everything You Need to Know About Ganglion Cysts

Ganglion cysts can be painful, they can change shape, and they can restrict your hands general movement. It is not completely clear what causes them, but they can be extremely annoying!

Ganglion Cysts and the Symptoms They Cause

Ganglion cysts are generally lumps which form under the skin. They are usually found on the wrist, though they are also found on the fingers, the elbow, the feet and the ankles. So, whilst they are not only restricted to the hands, they are usually more common there.

They tend to form due to tissue forming around the joints, which then become inflamed and they swell up with lubricating fluid. It is not uncommon for them to increase in size, and they can also disappear completely, spontaneously. If you do notice that the cysts grow in size, you really do not have to worry. They are not cancerous therefore their size does not mean that they are dangerous.

If anything, Ganglion cysts are more uncomfortable than anything else, and they are usually quite painless. They usually just irritate more than anything else, and occasionally movement may be restricted. The cysts do not spread and they are not contagious so you cannot pass them onto anybody else, or onto other parts of the body.

In order to be diagnosed, a doctor may suggest an x ray or some other medical test. It is important to have the cysts looked at, as though it most probably is just a cyst, there are other conditions the lump could be a symptom of. For example, you could actually have bone spur or a tumor, but the most likely cause is definitely a Ganglion Cyst. So you really do need to make sure that you get the lump checked out as soon as possible.

How to Treat Ganglion Cysts

It is possible for Ganglion cysts to simply disappear on their own accord. However, usually they tend to stay on the hand and wrist for long periods of time, growing bigger as time goes on. Once the cysts become too large, it will start to put pressure on surrounding joints. This can then become painful and uncomfortable, and when this happens removal is usually the best method of treatment.

One method of treatment includes sticking a needle into the cyst, and removing the fluid that way. However, this is not always very effective as the fluid does not always pass through the needle easily. Also, it is thought that up to 50% of people, who use this treatment method, end up with the Ganglion cyst returning again at some point in their lives.

A rather strange treatment method which is also sometimes advised is to hit the cyst with something quite big such as a book, with the aim of popping it. This does tend to work and often the cyst pops and the lining of it is destroyed also which means that it does not tend to come back.

The most effective way of treating a Ganglion cyst overall however, is to remove it completely. Surgery usually involves shelling out the cyst, which mans that both the fluid and the sac are removed. However, although this is the most effective method of treatment, there still is a chance that the cyst will return later on in life.

Overall, there is no way to completely reduce the chance of a Ganglion cyst coming back once it has been removed. All you can do is treat it and hope for the best. Occasionally splints may need to be worn if you are waiting for the cyst to disappear by itself, though really they do not tend to disappear at all, if anything they grow bigger.

Always consult your doctor before undergoing any treatment and make sure you get a correct diagnosis to make sure that the cyst is really a cyst and it is nothing more sinister.

Did you know that you can develop an information product and then simply sit back and watch other people take care of marketing and logistics for you? No, you’re not gonna hear about hiring a whole division of staff to do your job for you; instead, I’m going to tell you about a very simple way in which you can sell your product completely on auto-pilot and pocket the cash while others do the hard stuff for you.

Whenever affiliate programs are mentioned, the first thing that normally comes to mind is the prospect of becoming an affiliate and promoting other people’s products. Up to a point, this is true, and a lot of people figured out how to establish multiple streams of incomes as an affiliate. However, don’t forget the other side of the coin - the prospect of becoming a vendor and having your affiliates do your job for you.

Sounds daunting? In reality, it’s very simple. Once you have your product ready, all you need to do is set up an affiliate program with a major affiliate directory (Clickbank is as good a place as any to get started). Once your product is approved, it will be available on the marketplace and prospective affiliates will be able to find it and promote it for you.

How do you attract affiliates? First and foremost, you have to have a good sales letter on your page. Remember that an affiliate can only do so much to convince prospective customers to buy your product - and if they later visit your site and find your sales letter to be weak or unconvincing, you will be wasting your investment and that of your affiliate. Therefore, make sure that you have a good sales letter in place - otherwise, you will simply negate any efforts by the affiliate to sell the product in the first place.

Secondly, make sure your affiliates always have enough content to work with. This means providing them with banners, text links, keywords and all the other resources they need to help them set up their site and make it stand out. Remember, if you are relying on affiliate partners for most of your sales, it is in your interest to provide them with as much content as possible, since the better their site is, the more money you will earn.

Thirdly, you should work on getting testimonials - as many as possible. Genuine testimonials from satisfied clients will make your product much more appealing and make your potential customers trust you more. A great way of attracting testimonials is to offer a backlink on the front page of your site in return for feedback; another useful method is to offer additional freebies (such as an e-book, a report, one month of free membership etc) in return for testimonials.

Ultimately, always remember that as a vendor looking at how to establish multiple streams of incomes, affiliates are key to your success; however, the success of your affiliates is just as crucial. Treat them with respect and provide them with the right tools and information to get started, and you’ll soon find your product being sold all over the Internet with absolutely no effort from your side.

Could You Have Developed Arthritis in Your Hands? If So, Do You Know How to Treat It?

Arthritis is a condition which quite literally means inflamed joint. Usually in a joint, you have smooth, cartilage covered bones which move smoothly against each other when they move.

Arthritis generally occurs when those bones become worn down by the smooth surfaces becoming uneven and rubbing together. It is possible for arthritis to appear in any part of the body, though when it appears in the hands and the fingers, it is definitely more noticeable.

Arthritis in the Hands

Overall there are twenty seven bones in our hands and two bones which create the wrist. These include nine main ones and eight smaller ones. If arthritis does develop in the hands it can be extremely painful and often disabling. There are various different types of arthritis in the hand including osteoarthritis, post-traumatic arthritis and rheumatoid arthritis

Rheumatoid arthritis causes problems for the cells which line and lubricate the joints. It can affect the whole body and it can often affect several joints at the same time on both sides of the body. The lining of the joint generally becomes swollen and inflamed, and it gradually erodes the cartilage and the bone.

It is also possible for the swollen tissue to stretch the surrounding ligaments which hold the bones together. This usually ends with deformity and instability of the joints. It is also possible in some cases, for the inflammation to spread to the tendons which are used to connect the muscles to the bones. This often ends with ruptured tendons. When a person gets Rheumatoid arthritis in the hand, it is usually most common in either the finger knuckles or the wrist.

The symptoms of Rheumatoid arthritis in the hand include:

Cracking sounds during movement

A little, soft lump on the back of the hand which moves with the tendons which straighten the fingers.

Unstable joints within the fingers or thumb

Any stiffness or swelling within the hand

The above are just some of the symptoms which show once you have arthritis. If you do notice any symptoms you should consult your doctor immediately.

Treatment for Rheumatoid Arthritis

The treatment designed for Rheumatoid Arthritis is aimed towards relieving pain and restoring the hands function. Usually medications are given for arthritis in the hands, which help to reduce any inflammation and to slow the arthritis down so that it does not have much chance to progress. Some treatments include oral steroids and even cortisone injections.

In some cases your physician may suggest that you see a hand therapist in order to exercise the hand as well as providing splints and advice on how you can relieve pain and the pressure on the hand, as well as protect your joints. There are also some devices which could really help with everyday life.

If the arthritis does get to the stage where the tendons rupture, you could find that you end up having trouble straightening or bending the fingers. If the problem is particularly severe, surgery may be the only option. Usually surgery includes removing inflamed joints and giving joint replacements. If the bones are damaged, parts of them may be removed.

The type of surgery will vary depending upon how severe the problem is and where the problem is in the hand. A hand surgeon will be able to give you the best advice possible as to what surgery you do need.

Overall there is no cure for this kind of arthritis, but there are treatments available which can help you to control the condition. It is always better to treat the condition as early as possible in order to stop any permanent deformities and problems from occurring.

Do You Know These Steps to Beautiful Hands?

Do you see hands of other women and wish yours looked as good as theirs do? Maybe you visit a manicurist frequently and need to save a bit of money.

While I do not recommend that you completely toss your manicurist because of the many benefits that are achieved through the hand and arm massage, I do think that you can cut back on these visits. To make your hands look their best from home, you need to know how to do a proper manicure (sans the massage, which is not very relaxing to do to yourself).

To perform an at home manicure, you will need: a 4 way buffer, a pair of nail clippers, a soft toothbrush, cuticle oil, polish (base, color and top coat), a hand towel or washcloth, and a bowl filled with warm water and a mild, antibacterial soap.

If you like, you may want to get a bottle of cuticle oil, but many men opt to avoid this step. Even if you have just washed you hands, you need to use the antibacterial soap in your water; if you should happen to cut yourself, you do not want bacteria to enter the wound.

Dip one hand in the warm water for about five minutes. Take it out, brush the tops of the nails and under the free edge (white tip), and dry with your hand towel (or washcloth). To dry the nails, rub the towel up your nail, pushing against the cuticle. If you always dry your hands this way (after hand washing, showering, etc), your cuticles will naturally become exfoliated and look neater.

I do not recommend using cuticle nippers or scissors because they will cause your cuticle to become thicker in time.

Trim your nails using the nail clippers. This should not go into the corners of the nail as it can cause a variety of conditions (especially on toes when you cut the corners too deep).

On your 4 way buffer, you can feel the different grits by feeling how rough each section is. Use the roughest section and file the free-edge, rounding the corners (you do not want to scratch anyone).

Using the surface that is the slightly smoother, go back along the edges, removing the filings that you can see. Rub your finger across each edge, smoothing rough places with this same section of the file.

Now, using the smoothest surface (aside from the grey, rubber section), lightly buff the tops of your nails to remove light ridges. Deep ridges cannot be removed because you file too much nail away trying to get rid of them.

This step is only used if you are not going to use any polish, buff the nail with the rubber section of your 4 way buffer. Apply a tiny amount of cuticle oil to each cuticle and massage into the nail and cuticle (you DO NOT want to apply cuticle oil right now if you are planning to polish you nails as the polish will not adhere to the nail properly and may take much longer to dry.

If you are using polish, apply your base coat now, taking care not to apply it too thick. Base coat is a must if you want to grow your nails or you are using colored polish. If you only want a clear polish, simply apply two coats of this base coat and let dry. Again, if you are ONLY using this clear polish, apply your cuticle oil, applying a tiny amount to each cuticle and massage into the nail and cuticle.

If you chose to use colored polish, you may now apply it. Take care to avoid getting the polish on your cuticles. You may need (and usually do need) to use two coats of polish and let them dry partway. If you do accidentally get it on cuticle, you can usually peel it off after a nice warm shower or bath.

Apply your topcoat and let dry. Apply your cuticle oil, applying a tiny amount to each cuticle and massage into the nail and cuticle and voila! You are finished.

Finding A Reputable Lasik Eye Institute

For the over one-million people who have undergone Lasik eye surgery in the United States - since it was first performed here in 1991 - the procedure is one that has transformed their life. For most people, a successful outcome has freed them from dependence on pricey and inconvenient eyeglasses and contact lenses.

But success surely comes as a result of careful consideration when choosing the location for your procedure. Finding a Lasik eye institute that is inline with what you expect, and holds a strong reputation in the industry, is paramount to a successful outcome.

Lasik surgery is considered a refractive laser eye surgery; its name is an acronym for Laser-Assisted In Situ Keratomileusis. Considered a relatively new procedure by consumers, the technology involved in Lasik has actually been around for quite some time - beginning in the late 1940s - and has evolved over the years until it became a seamless procedure performed on a daily basis. In fact, Lasik eye surgery is one of the most popular elective surgeries performed today - with centers devoted to the procedure continuing to crop up around the world.

A Lasik eye institute is a medical facility focused on performing the Lasik surgical procedure. Initially, it is important to find an institute that is close to your home as you will have to make several visits to the center. But logistics never supersedes reputation.

It is vitally important to thoroughly research any Lasik eye institute in which you are considering having your procedure. Examine their history, investigate their reputation - including if they have any complaints lodged against them, speak to patients who have had the procedure performed in that location, and visit the institute yourself to get a feel for their patient care, cleanliness, organization, and friendliness. This is not a procedure that is normally covered by most health insurance plans which means that patients are putting money out of their own pockets. You should be given a variety of financing and payment options by any center that you choose; and you should always feel that you are getting your money’s worth in care and quality.

A reputable Lasik eye institute will normally begin with a pre-surgical visit or two to determine your candidacy for the Lasik procedure and your overall health. You will have the opportunity at this time to meet with the surgeons who will be performing the procedure and you should feel that your questions are being thoroughly answered with the utmost respect. Get to know your surgeon; it’s not a bad idea to research the particular surgeon with whom you will be working; including education, experience, and reputation.

The procedure itself is mildly uncomfortable but most patients report that it is a painless experience. A reputable Lasik eye institute takes very seriously the comfort level of their patients before, during, and after the procedure. Make sure that you ask about aftercare so that you know what to expect following Lasik surgery. Your surgeon should want to see you for a follow-up examination to assess your comfort level and ultimate results.

Looking after your hands may sound simple, however most people do not bother spending that extra little bit of time required for taking care of them. Usually people associate cracked, dry hands with wintertime; however, the problems can appear at any time of year, even if they are more vulnerable in winter.

Prevention is the Best Cure

Preventing your hands from becoming dry or sore, is by far the best way to protect them. Many hand conditions are hard to treat once you have them. Conditions such as Psoriasis, Eczema, and contact dermatitis, are really uncomfortable and they can take a long time to get rid of. You really will know about it if you end up with a condition similar to those ones!

Dry hands are often the main cause of hand problems. The best way to defeat it is to moisturize daily, sometimes even twice a day. The causes of dryness usually include washing up liquid, detergents and chemicals which are found in most household cleaners and even over washing them can cause them to become dry.

Many occupations cause a persons hands to dry up, such as jobs which involve tearing up cardboard on a daily basis, even handling flowers can make your hands dry up. So, if you know you have a job which puts your hands under constant pressure, make sure you take care of them by moisturizing them as often as possible.

If you constantly do the dishes at home, why not ask somebody else in the household to take over? Maybe your children or your husband/boyfriend can do them a couple of times a week? This will cut down the risk of water exposure, and will therefore keep your hands softer.

If you do not have a kind and generous family however, you should always wear protective kitchen gloves. Many people recommend putting moisturizer on your hands before putting the gloves on, that way the heat soaks the moisturizer more into the hands.

What Are The Best Moisturization Products to Go For?

Depending upon which hand condition you actually have, you will need different moisturizers for each one. Usually, moisturizers contain exfoliating ingredients which really help with dry, scaly conditions such as dermatitis. Others are called humectants which hold more than their weight in water, within the skin.

If you have an open wound, you do not want to use an active moisturizer, as it will really sting. However, if you are suffering from thick, dry and cracked skin, an active moisturizer is definitely for you! Always remember to apply a moisturizer after washing your hands and doing the dishes.

Other forms of moisturizers include ingredients such as Glycolic Acid and Lactic Acid. They really help to soften the skin and to exfoliate hard, epidermis. Urea is another ingredient used, and that is a humectant which really does help to hydrate the skin.

Many people use products with urea in them, in the bath, and that can really help to protect the skin and leave it soft and smooth feeling. You can even combine all three of the ingredients to create an ultimate moisturizer for the body.

Some Common Problems Which Could Occur

If you do not protect your hands there are several problems which can occur. Blisters and cracked finger tips can both be really painful. Our fingertips have the most nerves in them in the hand, and so if you do end up with cracked fingertips, it can be incredibly painful.

Blisters also can be a problem and they are a sign of increased inflammation. This often makes them really itchy, and they end up splitting which again, is really painful.

Other conditions you may end up with include Eczema, and Psoriasis as mentioned earlier. Getting rid of these problems can be a nightmare so it really is in your best interests to prevent any of them from occurring in the first place.

It really does not take long to protect our hands and it does not have to be overly expensive. Just a few minutes each day and you could protect your hands from a variety of different problems.

When I first started power model aircraft flying back in the1950s we only had the ic engine generally available, items did appear in the model press from time to time in the 1960s about the use of CO2 motors,

Unfortunately ic engines had a few drawbacks mainly in the fact they where noisy, there where no silencers for them in those days and as control line flying was in its heyday many complaints about noise started to roll in, causing the loss of several flying sites, manufactures started to produce silencers for many of the bigger engines and there where attempts to produce early electric powered planes, The drawback being these proved very heavy due to batteries, the size of the motor and the radio gear at the time,

A few CO2 motors had started to appear in the UK about this time, Bill Brown in the USA had built he’s first CO2 engine that ran in 1942, apart from The American Brown the English Shark ,Telco, and the Czech Modela, became available, and until around the early 90s this is how things remained,

Enter Stefan Gasparin. Until the first ‘Interscale’ in Nottingham in 1991, this name was known only to a very few people outside of the model fraternity in the then Czechoslovakia for whom Stefan made a very few tiny motors for his friends.

The advent of the Velvet revolution enabled him to consider selling his motors to the west and with this in mind he got together with a small firm which made instruments for full size aircraft (mostly Russian, this company at that time was suffering from a sudden drop in orders) the idea being for the factory to mass produce a new design of motor for him.

At Interscale, Gasparin motors were shown by the editor of the Czech model magazine, Otakar Saffek, also an international F.A.I. judge, to a stunned group of modellers who couldn’t believe a model airplane could fit into a 2oz tobacco tin, let alone have a working motor fitted to it that actually worked.

So today there is now an opportunity to build quite a variety of small, light scale, sport, competition model aircraft, either for free flight or RC, indoor & outdoor. You name it. A safe, clean, and satisfying way to fly. The power produced for their size is astonishing.

A word about how they work. The CO2 and steam engine work on the same principal. They are expansion engines. The main difference, the fuel. The CO2 engine uses gas generated from liquid CO2, as opposed to steam. The gas vapor under high pressure is fed through a small tube from the tank to a chamber with a ball and valve seat in the cylinder head. When the piston, which has a post centered on top, pushes the ball out of the seat (at top dead center), gas rushes in, pushing the piston down. The gas exhausts through ports as the crankshaft swings around toward bottom dead center. As the piston comes back up, the cycle is complete. The engine will run either direction.

The information presented here is quite general and is intended to help the newcomer to CO2 eliminate some problems that can arise from not following a few important procedures. By following these procedures a great deal of satisfaction and good old fun will be yours.

Servicing the engine: When there is a need to open your engine to clean out dirt or foreign matter from a bad landing, replace a damaged seal, etc., assemble parts just finger tight, lock nut, cylinder head, tank lid, nozzle, etc. NEVER use pliers or any kind of wrench.

Lubrication: It’s very important to keep your little gem well oiled. For the oiling procedure, see mfg. instructions. Every six or eight flights should do it. A small amount with a needle oiler will do. Don’t over oil. Extra oil won’t hurt the engine but will, if done repeatedly, mess up your aircraft.

Chargers for C02 Motors.
There are currently 5 types of charger available.
In the UK we generally use only 2. The simple `spartlet’ type which uses the 8gm bulb used for making soda water is cheap to buy but can be very expensive to run, a box of 10 bulbs only holds 80gms of gas, and anyway, for the larger motors the small fillers are impractable as the tank has a larger capacity than the bulb filling it. In this case by far the most economic way to charge the motor is to use the bulk adapter that fits onto a `Sodastream’ cylinder. These are generally available in some form worldwide, but do make sure if you use a non `Sodastream’ cylinder that the pressure release valve is on the side of the cylinder and NOT built into the head valve.
In countries where the `Sodastream’ cylinders are not available it is often possible to get 12gm bulbs, usually used on airguns. In order to use this size of bulb it will be necessary to use the deluxe Gasparin charger which takes either 8 or 12gm bulbs.

In the UK the `Sodastream’ cylinder can be obtained from Boots, Tesco etc, it is only necessary to purchase the cylinder once, from then on take the empty one back and exchange for a filled one for less than the cost of a box of bulbs. Each cylinder contains 250 gms of gas and can last for ages. Installation of C02 motors is quite simple, the tube from the motor to the tank can be gently bent to almost any shape required, in the case of Gasparin tube, it can be wound round a pencil to take up unwanted slack. The only rule to bear in mind is that the tank must not be mounted more than 45¡ off vertical. It makes no difference to the motor which way up its installed.

Filling the tank can be done in two ways. With the filler nozzle of the motor facing down and the charger nozzle up, a `gas’ charge is made, this is used for trimming and flight testing and also, in conditions of very high humidity. This is to prevent very rapid burning off of the gas which can lead to freezing of the motor cylinder and hence very poor performance.

The other way to charge is a `liquid’ charge. This is with the charger facing down and the filler nozzle from the motor facing up. Liquid gas is introduced into the tank and takes longer to burn off than a gas charge resulting in much longer motor runs. Beware! It is possible, if the pin on the piston is lifting the ball in the head valve at the time of charging, that liquid gas can get into the cylinder. If this happens and you swing the prop, the result is a ruined piston ring which will have been frozen to the cylinder wall by the sub zero gas. Always make sure that the piston is not at the top of its travel before filling the tank.

Should you be unlucky and freeze the ring, it is very simple to change it, simply unscrew the whole cylinder, locking ring and all and lift it off the piston. You will see the ring on the top of the piston, flick it off and fit a new one, don’t forget to put a little C02 lube on the ring before carefully re-fitting the cylinder, remember to slacken off the locking ring before putting the cylinder back, put a gas charge in the tank and screw the cylinder down flicking the prop between turns until the correct speed is set , then lock off with the locking ring. Simple really! BUT! If you attempt to fit a ring to one of the smaller motors, G24 down, I do recommend that you wear a jewellers glass so you can see what you are doing!

C02 motors are now both reliable and relatively inexpensive to buy. They look good on a model that should have an engine and, most of all, although they are virtually silent, the noise they make is most realistic and won’t cause offence to neighbours or the public when in use

Engine speed adjustment: RPM can be changed by rotating cylinder. Loosen locknut, turn cylinder clockwise RPM is increased. Counter clockwise RPM is decreased.

Selecting engine size for your model: Refer to mfg. operating instructions. However, it is wise to install a slightly larger engine throttled down than a smaller engine that has to be run wide open for desired performance.

Mounting tank in model: Locate the tank on the center of balance, or slightly forward. The weight of tank varies with the amount of liquid and if too far from the center of balance it can change the trim of aircraft in flight.

Model weight: Build light. Keep wing loading down. Light models, especially scale, look better as they fly slower.

Good Luck And Happy Landings
