If you had a limited amount of capital to invest, would you invest it in the foreign exchange (FOREX) or the stock market? This is a question that is, undoubtedly, pondered daily by small potential investors worldwide. In the ideal world, there should be a well-balanced portfolio including stocks, FOREX and other types of asset holdings. However, due to limited capital and the real need to start somewhere, the investor may not be able to immediately diversify. Incidentally, the investor could seek out some sort of diversified mutual fund, leaving all the ultimate control and decision-making to a fund manager. Nevertheless, for the small investor who wants to maintain full control and decision-making capacity over trading decisions, both the FOREX and the stock market offer such opportunity.

How does one decide which avenue to pursue, FOREX or stocks? Naturally, some sort of meaningful analysis needs to precede any decision on the matter. One approach would be to weigh the advantages and disadvantages of each. Let’s first look at the advantages and disadvantages of the stock market.

Advantages:
1. It is a regulated market; traders have more protection, generally speaking;

6. Limited trading hours, compared to the FOREX.

By comparison, the advantages and disadvantages of FOREX trading are as follows:

Advantages:
1. High leverage is possible, in some cases up to an incredible 400:1;
2. There is a low barrier to entry, with some brokers allowing margin as low as $1.00;
3. Extreme volatility in FOREX makes for great short-term profits;
4. Only few dozen currency pairs are available for trading, making choosing easier;
5. Largest market size of any financial market, moving almost $2.0 trillion daily;
6. It offers 24/7 trading, closing only from 4:00 p.m. Friday to 4:00 p.m. Sunday; and,
7. Pays above-bank interest on margin funds, even when no trading is being done.
Disadvantages:
1 High leverage can result in substantial losses, if leverage is not used properly;
2 Because it is an unregulated market, some brokers may take advantage of traders;
3 The retail side is relatively new, so there are not as many well-written resource materials.
4. There is substantial risk involved and one can literally lose all of their investment in one trade.

After viewing the advantages and disadvantages highlighted above, this writer is of the opinion that the FOREX offers the best opportunities for profitability both long and short term. Of course, the underlying assumption here is that a profitable trader, prior to getting involved, will obtain the necessary education and learn strategies for properly managing risks while achieving profitability. To do otherwise would be courting financial disaster.

Starting with a relatively small amount of risk capital, such as $300, a trader in the FOREX, using proper money management techniques, can theoretically build a substantial nest egg by compounding the profits consistently over a period of time. Albert Einstein once commented that compounding is the greatest force in the universe. Whether or not that is true, it is readily apparent through mathematical computation that compounding can lead to the amassing of large amounts over a rather short period of time. Test this conclusion for yourself on paper by starting with $200 and compounding returns of 10% per month for 24 months. The results may astound you.

In conclusion, it would take substantially longer to accomplish the same financial results in the stock market as it would in the FOREX under the same economic circumstances and with the same amount of limited capital. Such likelihood would seem to favor investing in the FOREX, given a choice. As would any prudent investor, diversify your portfolio as soon as you are in a position to do so.

How they work -When an electronic drum pad is struck, a change is triggered in the embedded transducer (piezo). The resulting signals are transmitted to o the drum module and are translated into digital waveforms, which produce the desired percussion sound assigned to a particular pad. As a drummer that’s all you need to know really. However over the past few years technology has turned electronic drums into serious instruments that impress even the most discerning of drummers.

The Early Days - Early electronic drums gave only an approximation of the sound of acoustic drums, as there were often technical issues with triggering, as well as musical issues such as poor dynamics and tonal subtlety. Consequently, the early electronic drumsets such as Simmons and Syn drums, were often used for effects largely in disco genres in which the drums were usually expected to play rigid patterns and were little more than early drum machines. Simmons however, addressed these problems and produced usable kits that became popular with many of the days top drummers and still has a sizeable fan base today.

Todays State of the Art - There are inexpensive low-end drums and modules currently in production whose quality is just marginally better than their pioneering counterparts. For the most part, these are targeted towards children and hobbyists

Most of todays kits have modules with trigger inputs for the following:

• Kick Drum
• Snare drum + rim
• Hi hat controller
• Toms
• Cymbals(bow+bell ) 0r (bow+bell+ edge)
• Hi-hat cymbal

The ability to assign different sounds to any given pad makes for enormous flexibility giving the electronic drummer unlimited potential for configuring different kits. Today most acoustic kits can be replicated and are practically indistinguishable from the “real mcCoy” Additionally, electronic drummers can sample other drums or non-percussive sounds and use them creatively, no more is the drummer to be regarded as just the tubthumper at the back. Many see this as a great advantage over acoustic drums, as one can have a jazz, funk, rock, reggae, orchestral drumset by merely changing the kit selector switch on the module. Kits by Roland, Ddrum and Yamaha have addressed many of the downfalls of early electronic drums. While each of these manufacturers have entry-level units, the professional kits are geared toward creating a sound and playing experience which is nearly indistinguishable from a quality acoustic kit. Mesh heads are replacing the irritating rubber pads on most top kits and metal cymbals are also available from companies like Smartrigger. Examples include the Yamaha DTXtreme IIS, the DDrum4SE and Roland’s TD-12 and TD-20 Vdrums. Typically, these high-end kits are equipped with:high quality digital samples offering 24 bit samples of actual percussion sounds with hundreds of samples from which to choose.

Positional sensing and dynamic impact detection - detects which area of the drum head is hit providing a sample representing the strike on an acoustic head. Additionally, the volume and tone of the strike is dependent on where and how hard you hit it.

Multiple triggers- Snares and Toms have impact zones for both the head and the rim, allowing for rim and cross stick Cymbals also have multiple zones for edge, bow and bell strikes.

Realistic Hi-Hats- The latest hi-hat controllers produce open and closed sounds with some models offering variations in-between giving the drummer very realistic playing options. An electronic module within the foot controller detects the movement and provides variations of open, partially open, and closed samples as played with different sounds also assigned to a foot close, and a quick close-open.

Multiple audio outputs- For each percussion group (ie. Toms, Cymbals, etc) allowing independent mixing (like the multiple miking of an acoustic kit). Additionally, these groups have independent faders.

Expansion slots/Midi- for upgrading samples and software. Midi for linking up to your computer sequencer or to drive one of the brilliant drum software packages such as BFD or Toontracks

All this comes at a price. To get the same tonal quality as a good acoustic kit you are likely to pay double the acoustic kits cost but hey look at the fun and possibilities you can have not to mention the fact that you aint gonna fall out with your neighbours either.

Sex toys can be made from just about anything, but most are composed of one of the following materials:

Silicone

Silicone toys are non-porous and can be disinfected. Even textured toys are easily cleaned. It warms to the body and retains heat. It is also extremely durable. Because silicone can withstand high temperatures, you can boil silicone toys (as long as there is no vibrator unit inside) for 5-10 minutes or put them in your dishwasher to disinfect them. They also clean well with soap and water. You can use soap, rubbing alcohol, or bleach to clean silicone sex toys (if you are using alcohol or bleach, be careful to rinse thoroughly). Just make sure you clean them thoroughly between uses. In addition to being durable, silicone toys are nearly hypo allergenic; very rarely do people experience allergic reactions to them. You can use a silicone sex toy with a water based or oil based personal lubricant but do not use silicone based lubricants (e.g. Eros, Wet Platinum, ID Millennium). Silicone is very durable, but can tear easily. Keep sharp edges away from your silicone toys. No hard edges, no snags or imperfections - if you run your fingers over these toys with your eyes closed, you might think you’re touching skin.

Remember: It is possible to transmit infections on sex toys that have not been sterilized even if they have been washed. If you are going to share a sex toy with a partner use a condom on the toy to prevent transmission of bodily fluids, or boil your toy before a new person uses it. Non-lubricated condoms are best for silicone toys.

Jelly

Jelly rubber toys are made of soft, porous material that cannot be disinfected. That means these toys aren’t safe to share unless you want to use a condom on them, but they’re so inexpensive, your partner can just go out and buy his or her own! Jelly toys can be quite nice, at nearly half the price of their silicone sisters. While not as smooth or silky as sex toys made from silicone, jelly toys can still bring you a tremendous amount of pleasure. The secret is water-based lubrication - use lots of it. Jelly rubber sex toys are soft, and usually come in translucent colors. They feel a bit more resilient than the older rubber mixes used to make sex toys. Clean them with soap and water, and store in a cool, dry place away from other objects. If your toy is not waterproof, please take care not to get water in its battery pack or cord. Latex is often an ingredient, which some people are allergic to.

Cyberskin

Cyberskin toys are made of porous material that cannot be disinfected. Use with condoms for safety and to aid in cleanup. Toys made from this material become warm with use and are the closest thing to skin-to-skin sensation you’ll find in a sex toy. CyberSkin is also more durable than latex, it can be used in many more and interesting ways, such as cock rings, eggs, and even human-looking robots! Now it costs $200-$500 or so for something decent, but the cost is going down all the time and there are even free versions available also. Macromedia Dreamweaver, Microsoft Forntpage. NVU and XsitePro are all designed to help you in this regard. These are solely created to help individuals in designing professional websites. If you are really ambitious and technically unafraid you can learn about “HTML” or the language computers use to function and you can build your own sites with letters and numbers as things were down before the advent of user-friendly computer software designed for the purpose of web building. No matter which way you decide to go, take your time, be patient and persistent and you will be making your own websites in no time!

Yesterday, while working in the garden, I took a call on my cordless phone. It’s not something that many of us even thing about. Being tied down while talking on the phone is a thing of the past and some consumers don’t even know what a corded phone is.

The convenience of a cordless phone is nice. But there are many downsides to having one. The first is that you have no way of communicating if the electricity goes out. The cordless phone relies on the power, through its base, to be able to make calls. If your electricity goes out, there is no way to even call the power company and let them know you are in the dark.

Cordless phones are basically walkie-talkies. This means the information you speak through them has the potential of winding up on another receiver of some kind. Who hasn’t heard the horror story of the call being heard over the baby monitor?
