Running An Energy Efficient Household

With going “green” being the new global mantra, home-owners are increasingly switching to energy saving mechanisms to lower household costs. Household electronics and appliances are much more energy efficient than they were generations ago. However, the sheer increase in the number of appliances and gadgets in use across the country mean that energy saving still remains a priority for the government. Larger electronic gadgets and high speed processing computer systems require greater amounts of power that can eat into your household budget.

The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) has outlined the following guidelines for home owners to help them conserve energy and savings.

Use appliances with the Energy Star labels.

Unplug mobile phone chargers when they have been fully charged.

If your personal computers or lap top computers come equipped with energy conservation devices, make full use of them. Refer to the owner’s manual to see if other electronic equipments in your home offer such energy saving features.

Once you have finished watching a movie or playing a video game, make sure to switch off the television monitors and game consoles.

Make sure to plug your television sets and DVD players into power strips. Turn the power strips off when the gadgets are not in use especially over long periods of time.

There are a variety of new age automation products and services available today that enable you to control heating, lighting and cooling from a central point in the house.

Opt for multi function gadgets rather than buying one gadget for each function. Save fuel by shopping and banking on line. Discuss part-time telecommuting as a work option with your employer.

Choosing The Right Community To Buy A House In

The old “location, location, location” phrase might seem cliched but it holds true as much today as it did when it was first coined. The right community can enhance future resale value while a not so desirable one can lead to rates plummeting in no time at all.

When choosing a community, it is always advisable to choose a city that has a stable, thriving economy. Take the time to check out the state of the local community. Are the roads and pedestrian ways well maintained? Are the stores and retail centers full of shoppers? Is there evidence of community pride exhibited in the locals?

Find out if the local fire services and police personnel are efficient and closely situated. Above average crime rates will lead to a fall in appreciation. Check to see if the city has adequate youth sports facilities and parks. Community events such as those for children and teenagers will have a bearing on the overall appeal of the house.

Even if you do not have kids nor plan to have any, it is imperative that you check the local school system. This is because your potential buyers in the future might have children of school going age and the lack of good schools nearby might put a damper on your sale. Find out if there are enough schools for the local population. Also, check to see how well these schools fare on standardized tests. You can get this information online.

Find out the rate of property taxes. If they seem higher, you can be reasonably sure of a higher level of maintenance.

A Billion Dollar Facelift For Atlanta

Long known as a sprawling concrete jungle, Atlanta is finally getting a swanky new makeover. Last week two of the biggest names in real estate announced plans to create a massive development project in the Midtown area of the city. Spread out over three blocks, the new project will include office space, luxury hotels, high rise condominiums and luxury boutiques.

At least six more such multi billion dollar projects are in the pipeline. Atlanta has always been known for it’s office space and the city’s skyline is well known. However, there have not been any mixed use projects that are increasingly finding favor in urban areas across the country. The goal is to create chic, walkable neighborhoods along the lines of New York and Chicago, encompassing office space, trendy restaurants and upscale boutiques.

For a long time, the city’s office and residential space was concentrated in the outer suburbs. Recently, however, there has been a marked shift from the suburban areas to the city as more and more young professionals move to the city for employment. These young, college educated professional create a demand for increased downtown recreational activity. Their presence has also bolstered the demand for residential towers in the city center. Adding to this exodus are retirees moving to the city to avoid the long commutes from the suburbs. Most of the retirees in all probability, spent their office-going years commuting to and fro and in their golden years prefer to move to the heart of the city.

Work Abroad - Is An ALT Position Abroad Right For You?

ALT stands for Assistant Language Teacher. ALT’s are the guys and gals that go into the public schools and teach English along with a Japanese teacher. For teachers in Japan, ALT work is one option for employment. I was an ALT for a year. It had it’s ups and downs. Your experience as an ALT depends a lot on what school you get sent to. Here’s a little bit of what you can expect when you teach abroad as an ALT.

Most ALTs teach in elementary schools, junior highs or high schools. I went to a junior high. Everybody generally agrees that junior high schools are the most boring to work in. It’s all really textbook-based. These are the schools where you end up being a Human Tape Recorder. The kids don’t know much English, so it’s basically impossible for them to communicate with you. Plus, we all remember, that’s a tough time in kids’ lives. They’re going crazy with hormones and getting big and their voices are cracking and they’re awkward and feel weird.

The actual teaching part of the junior high I worked in was horribly boring. I would basically say a bunch of words for the kids to repeat, maybe do a little skit or model a dialog or something. I spent a lot of time walking around the room and handing out stickers. If I was lucky, I’d get to make a handout or game or something, but that was pretty rare.

In spite of all that, it was a good experience for me. After the classes are over, the kids have their club activities. They play sports and have music and art clubs, and they’re really excited if you come and participate. I used to play with the basketball kids, the tennis kids, and I’d sit in with the brass band! Hanging out with the kids was one of the best parts of the job. Plus, I got to practice my Japanese a little.

High schools are a little better to work in, because the kids can speak more English. There are more English clubs and English activities. As an ALT, you will probably have much more opportunity to plan activities and actually talk to the kids. You get more of a chance to help them with speaking English, and not just learning grammar from a textbook.

One cool thing about both junior highs and high schools is that the workload is pretty light. Before I was an ALT, I had been working at a big conversation school, working like a slave teaching 8 lessons a day. So, it was a pretty big relief to actually have some free time. Whenever possible, you should spend time with kids. If you have a lot of free time and there are no kids to hang out with, helping the other teachers with something will score you brownie-points!

Elementary schools are a little different. Depending on the school district, you may be going into a school where they have no English program or texts or curriculum. This means that YOU are the teacher! This is a great opportunity for you because you get to make all the materials and plan all the lessons, but it can also be a lot of work, so don’t do it unless you’re up for it.

Most importantly, I enjoyed my time as an ALT. I think it taught me a lot about Japanese culture. Plus, it was fun to spend time with the kids. I encourage anyone who wants to teach abroad to consider being an ALT. I have more details about work abroad positions available for free at: http://www.Teach-Abroad.net

A Bigger Penis - How Important Is That?

How important is the penis size? Women say that the penis size of their partners is very important. The size is the key for the complete pleasure in bed. A bigger penis can stimulate all the nerves from the vagina, offering incredible orgasms to the woman. Men have begun to be more and more concerned about the size of their instrument and most of them wonder whether the penis size can be modified or not. Some doctors say that it is possible.

There are three types of penis size: small penis, normal penis and big penis. First of all you have to identify the category your instrument can be included in. You have to know that a small penis measures less than 3.4 inches soft and less than 5.9 inches erect. An average penis has 3.3 inches soft and 5.9 inches erect and a big penis measures more than 3.3 inches soft and more than 5.9 inches erect. Take the right measure of your penis size and find out what kind of penis you have. If you have a small or average penis you have to know that this can change. If you decide that you want to enhance the size of your instrument, go for it. You can have a bigger penis in only a few months.

It is true that men are very different. Each body responds in a different way to each person. That is why some men may be able to enlarge more the size of their penis while others won’t be able to obtain extraordinary results. However, doctors say that most men usually obtain good results to the penis enlargement programs. They need to be confident and to follow the treatments.

There are many methods of penis enlargement. You can have a bigger penis by natural means. You don’t have to endure pain of to mutilate your sexual organ. Surgery or weight hanging may help, but doctors recommend treatments with penis pills made by natural ingredients. These are safe and the results are great.

The men’s penis enhancement has become possible thanks to the organ’s anatomy. The penis includes two erectile chambers that are very flexible. When an erection takes place, the blood pressure is higher and so your penis gets bigger. This is what specialists have analyzed. If the blood pressure from the penis could get higher, the penis itself would get bigger under the permanent pressure. The penis enlargement programs use only herbs that can stimulate the blood pressure and this is how your penis grows naturally in only a few months.

You can choose the right method to enlarge your penis by analyzing your needs and your lifestyle. If you are a very active person and you don’t have time to follow a certain diet, then you could use the penis enlargement patch. This is an easy and time saving method. The patch is placed directly on the penis, releasing the substances into the penis skin. You can wear the penis patch at whenever and wherever you want. Penis enlargement pills are also made by natural herbals. Programs with penis pills impose a pretty strict diet. Those who take penis pills should consume more fruits and vegetables and avoid junk food as much as possible. Both methods need patience, because the results won’t appear immediately.

All penis enlargement pills include penis exercise that has to be done daily. Every set of exercises has a manual with instructions that will teach you step by step how to do it right. The exercise will accelerate the pills’ effect and will help you maintain your penis firm and strong.

The most important idea is that men’s penises can get bigger. Your sexual life is very important and that is why you can’t ignore the problem of your penis size. Talk to your partner and make the right decision.

Omar Bailey usually writes about men’s health issues. The article is sponsored by Natural Gain Plus, leading site in penis enhancement pills and herbal supplements for men. The 3 Fears Of Making Presentations

In this fast paced knowledge economy, whether you are a business owner, employee, sales person, student or even a homemaker, success in your chosen field depends heavily on how you are received. How you are received depends on how you communicate or present. Based on how you present an idea, people may or may not buy something from you, may or may not learn something from you, may or may not give you high grades or worse may or may not choose to do business with you!

The ability to get a message across clearly and convincingly can win business, enhance reputations and help people become more successful generally. Top business people rank presentation skills among the most important. Teachers in various educational institutions also observed that top achievers have excellent presentation skills. Making presentations is increasingly becoming more important in the workplace and schools. Increased competition has made the ability to influence diverse audiences positively a critical success factor in an individual’s work and life in general.

Lets look at the 3 fears many people have in making presentations

1. Nervousness

This is in fact the top fear that many people face when making presentations. People tell me that even with just the thought of making presentations gives them butterflies in their stomach. But you know what? Even the most seasoned presenters, entertainers, orators get nervous. There are legendary stories of entertainment superstars who undergo extraordinary episodes of stage fright right before they perform. They experience blurred vision, nausea, and headaches - even after performing hundreds of times. So, if these entertainers face anxiety on stage, is it any wonder that the rest of us may be fearful of appearing before groups?

You would think I am nuts, but being nervous is good! Why? Because when you are nervous, your body produces various chemicals such as adrenaline which would heighten your senses, make you more alert and drive more blood to your brain, so that you can actually think and react better. Harness the energy of nervousness and you are on your way to making a great presentation. Oh yes, one more tip. Never, never, never say you are nervous or acknowledge your fear in any way to your audience or even to yourself. That puts up an immediate barrier with the audience and will deflate any confidence you have gathered

2. Audience Phobia

Many people fear that they will be scrutinized and judged upon once they are in front of the stage or group. This is totally untrue! You got to realize the audience is simply human, as you are. They are there to hear what you have to say and have no agenda that says you are not good enough. In most cases they are there, in the room, hall or venue because they want to be. Learn to relax, smile and connect with the audience. Once that is done, they will love you to bits! How to do it? Read on!

3. Feeling incompetent & Inadequate

Do you feel incompetent and even inadequate after making what you deemed to be a poor presentation? Many of my friends and colleagues feel this way. Even I felt this way during my initial years of presentation. But my friend, presentation is a skill. Being lousy at a skill doesn’t reflect how good or how bad you are as a person. It also doesn’t mean you are incompetent in your job or at the things you do. It just means that you need to improve on those skills and this is what we are about to learn in the later chapters.

The following article is adapted from my new ebook: “How to Develop Great Presentation Skills”. If you like the tools to be able to improve your presentation skills by 100 folds, yes 100 folds please visit http://www.greatpresentationskills.com

Using Promotional Pens For Marketing

Don’t be put off by cold callers

At first glance promotional pens printed with your company logo, name or contact details can seem quite expensive. If you have been approached by a company offering to supply you these goods, the prices are usually quite high. But consider that they are leaving room to offer you a discount and are also probably offering you a higher end range, then a quick bit of shopping around can produce something that’s much cheaper.

There’s a good range of inexpensive options

Plenty of charities, surveys and the likes are happy to give out free pens whenever they send out their mailings. These are usually the cheapest pens on the market and could be a good place to start. From just a few pennies each, including having your details printed on the pen, with a little imagination they can be great for getting your details over to the public.

Obviously, if you are advertising a high class business, then the basic stick ballpen might not be quite the right image, but you can quickly find better looking pens, without having to spend a small fortune.

But why pens

Giving out business cards and flyers might seem a good idea, but how many just get thrown out with the rubbish straight away? How many are thrown away without being read? With a pen it is something useful - it’s something that the recipient is more likely to want to keep and then every time they see or use the pen they will be reminded of your business. A marketing tool is only good for as long as it is on the person’s mind - by giving them something they want to keep, it’s on their mind a lot longer.

Then the imagination

So you have your minimum order of 500, 1000 or more pens. What are you going to do with them? This is where if you get it wrong it will become an expensive exercise.

Depending on your target market, there are many different ways of finding your public. If you have a shop or restaurant you might like to just simply pass out the pens to existing customers so that they remember you for next time. But this isn’t attracting much new custom.

Standing on the street corner handing out pens might be a useful way for a community website to be announced, but for a business a lot of the pens will be being passed to people who just aren’t going to be your future customers. What do you do if you are, for example, a business to business supplier or car electricals?

Look for shared customers

The answer is surprisingly simple - look in your area for another business with a similar customer base and ask them if they would be happy to pass out your pens to their existing customers whilst the customers are visiting the shop. Offer to do the same back or refer customers to them and suddenly you both share a powerful marketing tool.

Obviously, this is not going to work for competing businesses, but a logo designer, website designer, printers, solicitors and accountants might work well together as could a car electricals with a car parts supplier or service station and a hotel could distribute for local tourist attractions.

Get your pens out in bulk

Swapping with other businesses to promote each other, whilst helping each other and making your customers pleased at getting a freebie might be highly targeted, but it could be a little slow. So what do you do if you have a website with general appeal and want to get it known quickly?

How about sponsoring an event, or at least providing prizes? Look for a local race and ask them if they are giving out goodie bags. If so, how many and would they like pens to put in each bag? Or go to a local school, dance school etc and offer them pens to give out as part of their prizes at prize day.

Whatever you do, do it

Whatever your imagination dreams up distribute your pens, just make sure that you do something. There’s no point having 5,000 sitting on your desk - they need to be out there getting your name known. Even if you just go around your existing customer base and give them each a dozen pens and ask them to pass them onto their friends who might be interested in your services, do something to make sure that the pens work for you!

Keith Lunt runs several successful marketing sites and advises different business on marketing strategies. He recommends his customers to visit Logo Go Go who supply a huge range of promotional materials.

Comparison of CD Printing Processes

Inkjet Printing
CMYK Inkjet printers propel tiny droplets of liquid ink onto specially-coated CD-R and DVD-R surfaces with ability to absorb ink. They are usually integrated into automated robotic systems that load and deposit discs individually, allowing for unmanned operation after the initial setup. With a high-quality printing surface, inkjet results can be stunning printing in high resolution, and finished with a coating of UV-hardened lacquer that protects the finish against smudging and gives more vibrant colours. Inkjets are ideal for small runs with photographic quality print, or when you desperately need a fast job. In higher volumes the unit price does not face a substantial drop, which can be uneconomical compared to silkscreen, or lithographic printing.

Thermal Transfer Printing
The thermal transfer process is based on melting a coating of colored ribbon onto the surface of the CD-R or DVD-R. Each printer contains two ribbons; one containing panels of cyan, magenta, yellow and black. Each color is printed individually onto the second ribbon- the transfer ribbon. The media and the transfer ribbon move together beneath the thermal print head, sealing the surface of the disc with a highly durable coating 100% weatherproof and smudge free. The end result is a product that is highly cost-effective in small runs, with a stunning finish superior even to lithographically printed CDs or DVDs. Because the print process is done directly from supplied PDF artwork, the set-up time is very quick and allows for a very fast turnaround for urgent jobs. With great results, this process has become one of the most popular choices and feedback from clients has been overwhelmingly positive.

Silkscreen (Screen Printing)
Screen printing is a cost-effective method for larger quantities of CDs or DVDs printed as a part of full manufacturing process, but can also be applied to the printing of CD-R, 8cm CD-R/DVD-R, and 12cm DVD-R/DVD+R. Your artwork is transferred onto films each color is a separate film, with up to five colours. These films are used as ’stencils’ across a monofilament fabric screen, with the coloured inks applied through them, onto the surface of the CD or DVD. The resulting finish can produce very vivid colours, and is especially effective at reproducing spot colours (Pantone). This may, however, leave a grainy effect around text and colour gradients. Silkscreen is most effective with simple designs of few colours. Please be aware that most companies will enforce a minimum run of 500 units, but with very little price difference when compared with 1,000 units.

Lithographic (Offset) Printing
Modern offset printing is the most common high-volume commercial printing technique, with a wide variety of applications. The printer will either have your artwork and layout set directly to the printing plate from the computer, or creates a physical “paste up” from your layout that they will expose to the plates using a process camera, film negatives, and chemical treatment. The plate is treated to receive an oil-based ink around the print area, while the non-print area is treated with water. The plate is then ‘offset’ to a rubber blanket cylinder that applies it to the surface of the CD or DVD. This process allows for highly detailed photographic images and small text to be applied to the media in great quantities. Please be aware that lithographic printing is tied in with a full manufacturing process, which requires the creation of a glass master, and an extended production run, upwards of ten days. It is the ideal option if you need upwards of 1,000 units based on highly detailed artwork, producing a superior finish to silkscreen printing at a relatively comparable price.

We always advise our clients based on their artwork and requirements, but hope that this greater understanding of the processes involved, and their benefits and drawbacks can help you make an informed decision regarding your specific project, as always we are here to help and answer any of your questions.

Are You Safe From Hackers?

If ever there was any doubt that hackers and internet fraudsters were on the increase, recent FBI statistics give us the answer right between the eyes, so to speak According to the bureau, IT security problems cost the American economy $62bn in 2006. A figure which, according to past trends, is likely to rise yet again in 2007. Losses from phishing scams in the USA were estimated at just over $650 million.

There can be little doubt that hacking and other internet scams are becoming extremely sophisticated. ‘Under-the-radar’ techniques and schemes aimed at tricking the user into visiting websites that exploit computer programme vulnerabilities are on the increase. This is a considerable deviation from using mass mailing worms which has always seemed to be the favoured route for the delivery of malware.

In the twilight world of hackers and internet fraudsters, malware programming is big business. Indeed, some security experts claim that there are around 6 million different types of malware present on the internet at any one time.

Just to kick the stool from under those who think they are well protected by ant-virus software and suchlike, Symantec has stated that attacks against un-patched security vulnerabilities remain a problem. For example, they state that from January to June 2006, it took 31 days to develop a patch. On the otherhand, it is estimated that it only takes about three days for an underground programmer to develop ‘exploit’ code. Therefore, you don’t have to be a rocket scientist to work out that there is a 28 day window whereby you are totally unprotected against the malware to hit the net.

According to Symantec, they detected almost 900 ‘unique’ phishing scams - note the word ‘unique’. This is said by the company to be an increase of nearly 500 per day over the previous 6 month period. Other security sources report that highly targeted attacks by Trojans, designed to steal personal information and other intellectual property from businesses and organisations, increased from approximately 7 days to 1-2 days!

In a recent report, McAfee predicts that parasitic malware, or viruses that modify existing files on a disk, will rear their ugly head once again - albeit in a much more sophisticated form. As long as there is software there will be vulnerabilities, and McAfee reckons that because malware production has become more professional, criminal programmers are using automated testing packaging as part of the release cycle of malign code, as they call it!

Although there is no doubt that anti-virus and spyware detection software is a must for ALL computer users, it does not, indeed, cannot protect us from the sophisticated fraudsters permeating the internet today, if for no other reason than those designing ant-virus and anti spyware programmes seem to be continually playing catch-up.

By their inexperience, if nothing else, internet newbies are always at greater risk from internet fraud. However, experienced users are equally at risk nowadays. If you conduct an internet business, are a regular surfer or buy goods on the internet the risk of being scammed is greater than ever, if the experts are to be believed. Every year, those duped by internet fraudsters is rising at a truly breathtaking rate. Sadly, as a cpnsequence, many people are separated from their money and suffer dreadful consequences.

As I have said before, and repeat again, by learning as much as we can at every opportunity, we can help ourselves to be street-wise in a place where the criminal awaits to dupe us at the slightest opportunity. The internet is a wonderful asset but it can be a hazardous place as well. By being forewarned and forearmed we can help avoid many scams and other back-door attacks on our computer system. Although it won’t give us full protection, whatever it gives us is far better than nothing!
