A Few Words About Affiliate Programs

Affiliate programs are ways for you or other companies to partner with you to help increase market exposure, sales, and brand recognition.

Affiliate programs work in two directions.

1. Having your own affiliate program where other companies can sell your products or services for you can obviously bring you more business in the long run. Depending on your service or product this can be easily achieved. However, it is important to work with a third party company such as Commission Junction or LinkShare.com to take advantage of the tracking, commission payouts, and so forth for all the companies that choose to become an affiliate of yours and sell your products.

2. Participating in other companies affiliate programs can be an easy revenue generating method as well as increase the spectrum of services and products your company already offers. For instance, a popular type of website would be a fan site of your favorite band. In addition to posting information about the band, one could sell the bands music directly through iTunes. It’s logical, content relative, and profitable. This same conceptual formula can be applied to clothing, mortgages, and more. The most beneficial part to the participant of the program is that the host company handles all orders, processing, and shipping of these products. The affiliate is paid commission for the sale.

As mentioned above, most reputable companies will offer their affiliate programs through a third party marketing service such as Commission Junction or LinkShare.com. Please visit these sites if you are interested in learning more about generating revenue through affiliate marketing and sales.

Leadership 401…It’s All About Communication

Talk about high-powered business wisdom. The deans of some of the most prestigious business schools in America held forth on the topic of leadership in an issue of the bold business magazine, Fast Company.

Here’s a list of 4 of the top items:

  • Take full responsibility/motivate people by using your emotional intelligence (Stanford)
  • Communicate the true spirit of those you lead–articulately and repeatedly (Tuck)
  • Listen to the people–young, old, infirm, minorities (Wharton)
  • Let every single person feel successful by helping them find what they’re good at (Harvard)

Doesn’t look like what you expected, does it? Emotional Intelligence? Come on. Isn’t that psycho-babble stuff? Communicate authentically? Hmm. Be yourself, be honest, say what you mean… You must be joking. People don’t really want the truth, do they? Listen to everyone? Yeah, yeah, yeah, sure, pal. Everybody says that so they can look like they’re being democratic, but that stuff’s for wimps who are afraid to make the tough decisions. Don’t just fire people, help them find something they’re good at? Are you kidding? Who has time for that? What happens to the bottom line?

This is a powerful set of imperatives for anyone who aspires to be a true leader. And it’s not about learning this or that chunk of information, not about holding onto power or cutting people out so you can prove you’re stronger, not about having the most prestigious perks or money.

This list is about knowing how to communicate–and caring enough to do it.

If you want to be a leader, take these principles to heart. If you talk it, but don’t want to walk it, you can still gain recognition and power, but chances are you won’t be achieving a lasting legacy as a leader. If your only agenda is getting rich or becoming famous enough for a term or two in the Senate, you have a good chance of getting there if you’re persistent enough. But it’s doubtful you’ll effect significant change for the better among the people in your neighborhood, your company, city, state or nation–you might be too busy holding on to your position.

If you think this list is bogus, ask yourself what it means to be a leader. You can recognize those qualities by the way people happily follow true leaders. Our cities, our companies, our world need such leaders more than ever as we navigate the violent waters of change that are upon us. If you know in your heart you can’t or won’t do the things on this list yourself, why not just acknowledge their wisdom and hire someone who will do them on your behalf?

Hiring the right mix of proven experts–management and HR and communication professionals–goes a long way toward building your credibility as a leader. Intelligent hiring and compensation policies, appropriately applied, and a strong communications program will pay off in loyalty and satisfaction among your people and your customers–guaranteed. And you will have proven yourself a true leader and a passionate, empowered facilitator of solutions.

Managing Change - Air Cover

Imagine you’re landing on the beach in war and I guess we could say you are like those poor unfortunate souls, the Cuban Freedom Fighters (if you’re old enough to remember that one) who landed down there during the Bay of Pigs and were slaughtered because in the last minute, maybe hours, President Kennedy withdrew his support.

In the change wars going in across the land people aren’t killed but careers are, everyday. Let me explain the connection. When you start a change war you have to have a team and you have to give that team support. Every leader of course says they will, but in reality, just as in the Bay of Pigs, it is often withdrawn at a critical moment.

A case in point was a few years ago when I was Vice President of one of America’s high flying companies my boss started a change war. Now the politics in this tech giant (who thought they had no politics) would rival Washington on their best day. Our CEO was from Europe so his former business unit over there could do no wrong and when they did you’d better turn your head quick. Well, that wasn’t my style.

My boss had some bad blood with the supply chain folks from over there so he told me to lead the change wars and take no prisoners, including in Europe. Now I’d been around the block a time or two and had my share of limbs sawed out from under me so I worked hard at making sure he and the CEO were aligned with the changes. At every step of the way my boss assured me of his support with a straight face and with zesto. The CEO was less than straightforward but that was normal for him.

Over the course of more than a year my team worked to study, analyze and present the case to close a massive, high tech warehouse that was an albatross around the neck of the organization. The battle included studies by my folks and two major big league consulting houses. In every case the answer was close it … the savings was in the tens of millions of dollars. In each case the European team found some little issue to delay the inevitable.

Our manufacturing counterparts over there also reported in to my boss and their influential leader was behind us one thousand percent. I climbed further and further out on the limb of the change tree, looking over my shoulder mind you but being assured every step of the way that this was a slam dunk.

The day came for the final decision. By now relations with the European crew were out of cold war status and downright nasty. But hey, it wasn’t my idea, I was just asked to lead the charge. But the wear a tear on me and my staff was pretty high. We’d need a break after this one for sure. When the meeting came I wasn’t invited. Now that is one big red flag.

You’ll recall at the beginning I said my boss had some real bad blood with the supply chain head in Europe. So did the European manufacturing manager. When the dust settle the supply chain manager agreed to a move to a new site being opened in his home country in Europe, what a punishment for what he did, and the European manufacturing manager got a promise of a plumb new position over manufacturing and supply chain, a new combined organization. And my boss was happy because he had ‘paid back’ his nemesis in Europe.

Now all the money and time and pain that we spent driving the changes never paid off. My boss in the end had been holding the saw all along and I didn’t see it. I’d only been with the organization two years at this point and the rest of the players in this charade had been there for years. In the end it was like many had warned me, the CEO protected his own in Europe and my boss was a weasel.

But here is the principle, I call it Air Cover. When you send your troops to battle in the change wars be there and keep your word, provide air cover when the shooting starts. My team and I took a hit on this one because when the going got tough my boss went for compromise to get what he wanted, ultimately to have his nemesis removed rather than do what was right and close the facility saving the company and its stockholders millions of dollars.

Air Cover, thinking through the changes and being willing to go to the wall in support of your troops once you send them to battle. Leaders today are failing in record numbers when it comes to this in organizations. If you want to lead successful change you keep your word, in other words - your words match your deeds. Anything less is awful, its not leadership.

Beware Of Hidden Insurance Charges When You Renew Your Mobile Phone Contract In The UK

I have had a mobile phone contract with a major British mobile phone company that is also the largest mobile telecommunications network company in the world since the mid 199o’s. Although I could get an up grade mobile phone every year and just sign a contract for a further twelve months, I have actually only done this a few times. These phones get more and more complicated and as soon as you have got used to one and are happy with it, I don’t particularly want to familiarize myself with a later model.

Last autumn I decided to change my phone on the upgrade system. As normal I went to the local store and as normal they want you in and out as quickly as possible because there is a queue behind you. I was given the contract to sign, (normal procedure) and left with the new phone.

I noticed on the monthly account the words “3 months Free insurance £6.49 - Credit 3 months free insurance”.

This occurred again the next month and in January I saw that I had been charged £6.95 insurance. I looked back on the previous months and saw I was charged £7.41 in December. I phoned the accounts department and they told me that this had been included at the time of the “upgrade”. This was never actually pointed out and as on previous visit got given the contract that is in very small print and asked “to sign here” etc.

They agreed to cancel it. On the next bill it occurred again. I phoned them again and they said, it continues for another 30 days after cancellation and billing came into that time again. I hit the roof and said they had sneaked this in, it was busy in their two person store and I was not happy. They agreed to credit the payment back.

I have a couple of phones on that account and when the other one is due to be changed will be very much on my guard. The annual insurance premium will well and truly pay for another phone so with generous insurance commissions, although they don’t make money on the phones, this with calls and downloads will keep that phone company well in profit.

Do take care you don’t sign up for a policy without knowing about it, particularly if it is covered on your household insurance as well.

Win The Battle Against The Clutter!

We all lose the battle against the clutter because we do not equip ourselves with the requisite tools. What tools, you may ask in puzzlement? The tools that will help you organize yourself and discipline the paper that pours into your office. Oh yeah? What are they? You ask. Well, I had those questions too, till I discovered the wonderful power of using office accessories for doing my job. It helped me win the war against the paper regime and establish total control over my business.

Here is what I did. I purchased two desk trays to help me clean my desk. The first one I labeled inbox and the other outbox. I decided to put everything that came in into the inbox and everything I disposed into the ‘outbox’. That took some time to become an established habit, but in the end, I achieved what I set out to do. The paper on my desk became more disciplined and the chaos reduced gradually until there was none. My friends who mocked my efforts soon followed suit and the office began to take on an appearance of neatness and orderliness.

The achievement was all the more pleasing, because we began to realize the peril we had been in. The messy desk was burying all our important documents and forcing us to waste precious time in searching for it. We were attending to trivial work while our important work was gradually getting delayed. Then we were getting into a panic and messing up on the work in our hurry to get things done. The desk tray was an excellent idea.

The beautifully crafted desk trays that I had picked up from SuccessImage added beauty and grace to the room and enhanced the look and feel of the desk at which I worked. We all loved looking at the beautifully polished hand finished hardwood pieces that matched with the paneling of the office. Functionally the pieces helped us clean up our desks and create space for files that were current, reference paper required for information; archive files and papers that had been closed; and so on. We examined every single paper on our desk and took the required action. We threw out irrelevant paper and made an effort file all the loose papers. The desk trays were very useful in organizing this process.

When we had done the preliminary task of cleaning up the desk trays helped us keep track of work efficiently and control the volume of flow of paper. In due course we added a third desk tray to our desks and labeled it pending. All mail that could not be attended to immediately found its way into this tray and stared at us till we disposed them off. In fact we began a race to clear our pending trays so that we could pat ourselves on our backs and claim to be efficient.

All of us are now at a stage where we think we need to augment our desks with a fourth tray called Reference. We shall be getting it in pretty soon. What a boon the desk tray has been!

SuccessImage offers a complete range of solid hardwood desk and office accessories.

How To Refinance Your Mortgage?

People in debt try to break even by paying their monthly installments. However if they are not punctual or do not manage their finances well, the interests gradually eat into their income. These debts go on accumulating and certain solutions have to be thought of. One such solution could be a mortgage refinancing loan. However the situation should be cautiously analyzed and only after careful thought should the decision be taken.

In mortgage refinancing, you get rid of your existing debts by taking new loans. This money is used to pay off the previous loan. This policy is beneficial in a number of ways. Firstly, the rate of interest is considerable lower. Often the mortgage payments occupy a major chunk of a house owner’s income and a lower rate of interest is a definite boon.

When taking these loans one generally has a choice between two different interest rates, either a constant one or a variable one. Mortgage refinancing enables you to toggle between these two rates. People opt for the variable rates when the rates are low. However in the case of higher rates, the smarter option is a constant rate. Also keep track of the interest trends. When you suspect the rates are on the verge of falling, it is advisable to switch from a constant to a variable rate.

Usually, people just beginning their careers or those moving into a bigger home due to the family expanding take home loans. These people then spend at least the next thirty years trying to get rid of the loan. Instead, mortgage refinancing will enable them to accomplish this in about half the time period.

This saves people from the ever increasing interest rates which eat into their hard earned money. Thus they can save a lot more. Also once the mortgage is paid off the money used to pay the installments each month can now be deposited into a bank and one can earn interest from the bank. Thus you can use your money to earn more money. This money could also be used to augment the amount paid as installments to the other loans, thus getting rid of them faster.

Another advantage is that the extra cash now obtained can be put to a variety of uses. It should however be employed smartly. It can be used to beautify the house, thereby increasing its value or for debt consolidation. All these factors help in increasing ones wealth.

How Musicians Can Benefit From Submitting Online Press Releases

Musicians have always struggled with how to get fans to their concerts and how to sell more CDs

To get more fans to attend their concerts, some musicians post flyers in conspicuous places, such as music stores and colleges. Some take out ads in newspapers. And still, others stand out in front of subway stations passing out postcards to their concerts.

Moreover, to increase CD sales some musicians host CD release parties, visit local radio stations and sell their CDs in local record stores.

Although these methods are excellent ways for musicians to attract more fans to their shows and to sell more CDs, they are limited in that these methods only reach a limited audience.

To attract more fans, musicians are starting to discover the power of the online press release:

An online press release, a one-page document distributed to the media via the Internet publicizing newsworthy events of a person, company or organization, can benefit a musician in several ways:

First, sending an online press release may create opportunities for you and your band to get interviewed by music journalists and to have your music written about in feature articles and music reviews. This can happen very easily in that many music journalists subscribe to and monitor industry specific RSS feeds, which give them up to date music news. Sending an online press release can ensure that you will not miss out on this potential form of publicity for your music.

Second, you and your band will experience increased website traffic. How you ask? Online press releases are oftentimes indexed by major search engines, such as Yahoo, MSN and Google for music fans to search. When your press release is returned in a search, your website address is listed in your release, thus allowing music fans and others to find your website.

Moreover, you can include a MP3 file in your press release. This is beneficial for you, because music journalists and fans have an opportunity to hear your music as they read your release.

Although the online press release is an excellent tool to generate free publicity for your music, what happens if you do not know how to write one? Simple. Submit your release to an online distribution service. These services will create and submit your release to the music media, search engines and RSS feeds on your behalf.

Many charge fees starting from $150, depending on where you want your release distributed. Some examples of paid distribution services, include

–PRNewswire.com
–PRWeb.com
–Beatwire.com

Other services are free if you already have a press release ready to submit, but invite contributions from the writer to upgrade services to paid services. Some examples of free services, include:

–PrLeap.com
–Clickpress.com
–PR.com

Submitting online press releases do not guarantee that you will get an interview from a music journalist or that your CDs will sell. To increase your chances of success, you should send a release only when you and your band have some news to share, such as

–Getting a record deal
–Hosting a CD release party
–Participating in a charity event
–Winning an award
–Opening up for a major music artist

When you have something newsworthy to share with the music media and your fans, remember to send an online press release, which will help increase visibility for you and your band, garner free publicity and in the end, help you sell more CDs.

Want To Upgrade As A Paralegal?

Paralegal Careers are available in law firms and legal departments of both Government agencies and Private Organizations. Schools and institutions in which you can advance or begin your Paralegal training are available both online and off line.

Note that a school offering degrees, training and certificates in Paralegal programs may not be accredited to the national paralegal associations and, the American Bar Association may not have approved such a school.

Do not enrol into a school or institution that has no affiliation with The National Federation of Paralegal Association or approved by the American Bar Association.
The National Federation of Paralegal Associations recommends that a person should have a bachelor’s degree to practice as a Paralegal, though this recommendation falls short by almost 50% according to a survey conducted recently to check the qualifications of practicing paralegals in the Unites States, employers are sticking to a bachelor’s degree as the basic entry requirement for a paralegal.

This is, no doubt, because the work of a Paralegal entails a commensurate intellectual capacity, just as a lawyer should have, to be able to discharge legal functions either in a law firm or in the legal department of an organization or Government agency.

However, some people who are already working in a paralegal environment may enrol in institutions that offer Paralegal certificates to upgrade their status, but as said earlier, such a person should be a bachelor degree holder.

The paralegal field is vast, so you can choose classes to prepare you for
public administration, policy-making, ethics and public responsibility, interviewing and research techniques, writing, introductions to criminal law, commercial law, government law, litigation and management.

To recap, do not enrol in any institution that is not approved by the American Bar Association, most employers will not employ applicants who hold certificates or degrees from such institutions in the United States.

Steps To Eliminate Credit Card Debt

Today, as everything moves towards becoming more and more compact and hassle free so has the shoppers belief in credit cards increased. There has been such an explosion in demand that the number of such companies offering services has shot up drastically. Many of these companies also provide the cards immediately on application. Even a common man on the street nowadays, has more than two credit cards in his wallet.

However there is a flip side to this craze. A person ends up purchasing all that he fancies. This causes the debts to accumulate, the monthly installments rise, the time period to pay it off increases and so does the rate of interest. This will add up to an inability to pay off the loan and you will be swamped with phone calls from the credit card companies. The harsh truth is that though you are facing difficulties due to an increasing debt, as the time flies your debts only get bigger.

In order to avoid getting into such a mess, it is essential to effectively manage your finances. Each time you go out shopping, make a list of all that you absolutely need to purchase and take only the required amount of money. Leave your credit cards at home. Avoid buying any fancy or luxurious goods and stick to the basics. Make a budget to control your expenses each month and ensure that your income always exceeds the expenditure. This will lead to a decent amount being saved each month.

When it is time to pay your bills, try to pay more than the minimum stipulated amount. Doing so will ensure you pay off your debt faster. Otherwise you will have to bear the brunt of the increasing interest rates for a longer period and this will eat into your hard earned money. If the credit card company offers to increase your credit limit, decline at all cost, as this will only further increase your financial burdens. Never fall back or delay your payments as this will result I a poor credit history.

Credit card management is all about exercising self restraint and showing responsibility. Avoid simply splurging on articles that are of no use to you. Try to stick to your budget planned and do not exceed the limits. Try to use the credit cards only in cases of emergency and not for daily general use.

These steps will enable you to reduce your credit card debt.

Truck Accidents: Could A Lower Speed Limit Be the Answer?

Think the speed limit for big, commercial trucks is too high? The American Trucking Association agrees that it is. A 68mph speed limit for trucks is being proposed by not everyday car passengers but by a group of trucking companies that make up the American Trucking Association.

The American Trucking Association along with Road Safe America has proposed a 68 miles per hour maximum speed limit for trucks weighing at least 26,000 pounds or 13 tons gross vehicular weight. The 3 mph over 65 mph speed limits is given for increased speed needed when passing.

Most of these trucks already have computer-enforced systems called speed governors, but no law exists that requires them to be activated. Speed governors are attached to a vehicle’s engine to limit their maximum speed. Proponents of the proposal believe that many lives could be saved as excessive speed is a factor in many fatal crashes. Truckers face pressures to go as fast as they can to get all deliveries done, make up for road construction and other delays, satisfy customers who have zero-tolerance late arrival policies, and make expensive payments if they’re independent.

The above factors combined with the sheer size of a truck make accidents not only possible, but also more likely to be fatal if they do occur. Should you be involved in an accident, make sure to:

  • Promptly report the accident.
  • Think about it if the insurance company asks you if they can record the conversation. If injuries exist or if you think the insurance company will say you’re not covered, you may want to contact a law firm first.
  • Get details of the accident, like pictures and names and phone numbers of witnesses.
  • Get insurance details of other people involved in the accident.
  • Keep a written record of conversations with the insurance company.
  • Save bills and receipts for vehicle repair work and medical costs associated with the accident.
  • Be honest with insurance investigators so your claim is not denied.
  • See if you have more than one insurance policy that provides coverage for the accident or injury to use.

How To Get Through the Accident Process With Insurance Companies

  • Don’t admit fault. Have the insurance investigators determine liability.
  • Don’t let time limits to file your insurance claim expire. Be sure to file on time.
  • Don’t take what insurance companies say as the final word. Insurance companies give you low estimated losses.
  • Don’t sign a release or waiver.
  • Don’t accept a check as a final payment unless you are sure it’s a fair compensation for your losses.

Truck accidents differ from car accidents in their limited visibility as well as the extent of damages and injuries due to a truck’s size. Areas beside and behind a commercial truck exist where the driver has limited or zero visibility. Trucks also take longer distances to stop than passenger vehicles do. Because these trucks tend to do greater damage in accidents than cars do, truckers must carry more insurance than other drivers.

How Truck Insurance Differs From Car Insurance

  • Minimum liability coverage of $750,000 is required for vehicles weighing more than 10,000 pounds and hauling non-hazardous materials
  • Minimum liability coverage of $1,000,000 for hazardous materials and oil
  • Minimum liability coverage of $5,000,000 for passenger trucks, trucks operating portable tanks, and capacity over 3,500 gallons

Some believe that with a new, lowered maximum speed limit of 68 mph, fewer truck accidents will take place. Others, though, believe the new proposal will hardly make a difference and that it will in fact, multiply other problems. Many worry that with truck speed controls in place, other cars will try to pass trucks more often, which is a major cause of car-truck accidents. Others say the proposed speed will cause traffic flow problems. If trucks stay in the right lane because of the lower-imposed speed, cars could have trouble getting on the Interstate or getting over to the right lane to exit.

The petition to lower truck speeds, closed for public comment after March 27, is proposed to make the roads safer for everyone. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, which studied the proposal in 1991 and said it was not necessary, will have the final say on what happens with the proposal.
