The Principle Behind Online Paid Surveys

People who take online surveys because they get paid to fill out the survey questionnaire are sometimes a bit self-conscious about giving their opinions. They may say defensive things such as, “Hey, I don’t know! That’s just my opinion. Someone else might think differently!” or, “Who am I to say? Who am I to decide that?”

What they need to understand is the principle of opinion sampling. The principle of sampling states that with a more or less homogeneous population, a sampling of a representative few of these will accurately reflect the whole population within a few percentage points. To get more accuracy, take bigger representative samples.

That means, for example, that if a mayonnaise packer and seller wants to know what percentage of the people in Pennsylvania prefers lemon flavored mayonnaise over other flavors, they don’t have to ask everyone in Pennsylvania to find out! If they ask a representative sample of Pennsylvanians, say 1,500 to 3,000, which they prefer, they can project the results onto the entire population within a ‘margin of error’ of between 2.5 and 4%. That’s close enough for most marketing planning purposes.

So when you receive an invitation to take a survey, don’t worry about what other people might think or say. Your survey info is part of the sample they are taking. Chances are if you think a certain way there are others who feel the same way. Just give your honest opinion. The survey maker does not care if you are in the 90% group or the 10% group. What they care about is whether the opinions are split 90-10 or 10-90 (or 60-40!).

When people make buying decisions the only valid opinion is their own, which is only fair, and entirely correct. After all, they are buying the product for themselves, with their own money! So they will act based on what they honestly think. And that reality is what the market researchers want to know.

At base then, all opinion surveys of whatever type are using this same basic principle. It means that to know pretty well what a large group thinks you do not have to ask all members of the group, just a small representative sample.

This is what makes it possible to find out what people think in an economical way and it makes surveys of all types, including paid online surveys, work and yield valuable information. Because of this the Market Research people can afford to pay 2,000 people for their opinions because that tells them what maybe 4,000,000 would say if they asked them every one! When they pay the 2,000 their $20.00 each for their opinions, it is really only costing them a penny each to know what the 4,000,000 would say!

The bottom line? Take the paid online surveys offered to you, give your honest opinion, whatever it is, and take your $20 fee proudly, knowing that it saved someone somewhere a lot of money even if it did only take you 10 minutes to fill out!

Roman Antiquities - Roman Glass Beads and Intaglios

In the 2nd millennium BC, the Romans emerged from a small settlement near Rome to begin a course of expansion that was to make them the dominant power in the Mediterranean. By the 1st Century AD, Roman territories expanded from Britain in the north to Egypt in the south. Much of the Roman culture and crafts reflected the preceding Hellenistic period, however, their extensive trade network provided them with a great variety of materials. Artisans often combined styles and materials creating their own unique designs. While personal adornment was frowned upon by the early Romans, their attitude of austerity had diminished by the 1st Century BC and a rich variety of jewelry abounded. Roman jewelry reflected both the Hellenistic influence and the Eastern taste for colored stones.

Roman period, is considered to be 100 BC to 400 AD. This included all the many glass working centers throughout the Roman Empire (what is now Syria, Egypt, Italy, Switzerland, the Rhineland, France and England) however, probably did not consist of any production actually in Rome itself. Many technologies were both rediscovered and newly invented over this time period. One of the most significant was the invention of the blow pipe (Sidon). It was used to make drawn beads, but the technique differed from the earlier methods in India. In fact, it does not appear that they were familiar with these other techniques and the blow pipe method was developed independently. This was a faster cheaper means of making beads in mass than the individual wound method that had been being used in Europe and the Mediterranean before. The blow pipe also allowed the artisan to expand a bead (or other glass object) from the inside, thereby eliminating the weight and shear amount of glass needed for the core formed methods. This might explain the disappearance of the core formed beads, and vessels around the 1st c. BC. Due to these more efficient methods, there were more glass beads produced in the 1st century AD than in the previous 1500 years.

An Intaglio is an engraved or incised figure in a hard material. The shapes of the gems cut in Rome or for the Romans do not differ much from those of the Hellenistic Greek world. Circular stones are perhaps less common and oval ones rather broader. The subjects chosen for engraving were notables, generals and emperors. Heads and figures of divinities are common, especially those most favored by the Romans or appropriate as signet devices like Fortuna.

Life is beautiful

Life is basically a poetry.
It can be lived only with the attitude of celebration.
All else is a drag.

Drag means:
Born in 1970
Died in 1990
Buried in 2065

Let your life be integrated at the centre of celebration.
Only choose that which is celebrating, joyous.
If you can go on dropping all that is non-celebrative, serious,
You will be moving in the right direction.
Cultivate all that brings joy and celebration – at all levels.
Physical, mental, emotional, social, spiritual, financial, occupational.
If only the body dances, it is happiness; something is missing in it.
If only the soul dances then it is very subtle, abstract, not of the earth.
It has wings but no roots; again something is missing.
Between the two is the bridge of the mind.
The mind can divide the two; it can also unite the two.
When the mind divides, it is called division.
When it unites, it is called meditation.
And when all the three –
Mind, body and soul dance blissfully together,
As if they are one - that is celebration.

So let this be your criterion.
Whenever the question arises of what has to be done,
This has to be the criterion:
If it brings joy, do it.
And whatsoever brings joy to you will bring joy to others too.
Sometimes it may not be very apparent,
But this is the fundamental law:
That which brings joy to you is bound to bring joy to everybody,
And that which brings misery to you is bound to create misery for others, sooner or later.
There is no other service.
All that goes on in the name of duty is ugly.
Duty is a dirty four-letter word; avoid it!
Do things out of joy but never out of duty.

Celebration means expansion.
When somebody is celebrating,
Energy starts moving in ripples and can spread all over existence.
An expanding energy can feel moons and stars and suns within itself,
The whole universe within oneself.

Only one who is innocent enough to celebrate small things of life can understand that life exists.
Because life exists in the small things:
The food you eat,
The walk that you go for in the morning.
The love that you have for your beloved,
The friendship that you have with somebody,
Moments when you start falling into sleep,
When you start rising early in the morning.
Life exists in such small things.

Don’t miss a single opportunity of saying yes to life.
When you say yes, say it with great celebration and joy.
Celebration has to become your religion.
Misery is sin.
Sadness and seriousness are companions of misery.
Joy is virtue,
And all that helps joy should be nourished, cherished, invited.
Continue to meditate, and continue to dance and sing.
See life in as many ways as possible, in all its colors’.
Celebrating, you come closer and closer to the heart of reality.
The moment you stop celebrating, you are cut, disconnected.
Celebration is the bridge.
When you dance, it is not only you who is dancing;
the whole existence is dancing with you –
The earth and the sun and the moon and the stars.
It is a celebrating existence…
it is continuously dancing.

Life is beautiful.
God is hidden everywhere and in millions of ways…
The celebration is already happening.
The invitation has been given to you – simply participate.
Unless your life can become a celebration,
a tremendous joy, don’t be satisfied, don’t be contented.
Go on searching:
There must be some method,
There must be some way where you can lose yourself completely,
Madly, in ecstasy.

The world is in a celebration.
You can stand by the side…
You can remain just a spectator.
My invitation is to become a participant.

Be happy, so that you only attract happy people…
Happiness protects.
You attract only people who love happiness and
You think of life in terms of celebration, festivity.
Whomsoever we attract, we attract.
It has been noted that people fall in love
With the same type of person again and again and again.

See the new possibilities
Feel the freedom
Hear the whisper…

It’s time to celebrate life.

Love and Blessings, Satish

Do You Want To Become A Rainmaker?

During my 35 year career, I have had the privilege of being referred to as a “Rainmaker” in several news articles and stories during interviews with some of my clients. I take that as a very kind compliment. Some may ask, what is a “Rainmaker?” The American Indian tradition would say that the Rainmaker used magical powers to bring rain to nourish crops to feed the people of the tribe. Today, the most common and simplistic definition I can offer would be this: A “Rainmaker” is a person who brings the most revenue into a company or organization and the revenue or money is the rain. Today’s “Rainmaker” makes things happen, generates the most new customers, new business and takes the art of the doing business to new levels.

This past Christmas (2004), I was given a very special and interesting book by Jeffrey J. Fox. The title: “How to Become A Rainmaker.” This is a great book and I have reread this book once a month since I got it. Jeffrey Fox has hit a home run with this book, in my opinion, because he has put his advice into a handbook form that is easy to read and understand and very valuable to anyone who wants to become a “Rainmaker.”

And just to wet” your appetite further, here is “The Rainmaker’s Credo” from Jeffrey Fox’s book - How To Become A Rainmaker”

Cherish customers at all times.

Treat customers as you would your best friend.

Listen to customers and decipher their needs.

Make (or give) customers what they need.

Price your product to its dollarized value.

Show customers the dollarized value of what they will get.

Teach customers to want what they need.

Make your product the way the customers want it.

Get your product to your customers when they want it.

Give your customers a little extra, more than they expect.

Remind your customers of the dollarized value they received.

Thank each customer sincerely and often.

Help customers pay you, so they won’t be embarrassed and go elsewhere.

Ask to do it again.

Shiatsu Massage Techniques

Shiatsu is a healing art, originating in Japan, which uses the power of touch and pressure to enable each of us to contact our own self-healing abilities. In a Shiatsu session the practitioner uses pressure with thumbs, fingers, palms, and sometimes elbows, knees and feet, to induce deep relaxation and a feeling of well-being. It is sometimes a dynamic, sometimes a seemingly static form, involving pressure and stretching on the limbs and torso, kneading and releasing tight muscles, and supporting areas of weakness. To receive, Shiatsu is deeply relaxing and yet invigorating, leaving a feeling of tranquility and a sense of being in touch with every part of one’s body. Giving Shiatsu is like performing a moving mediation and leaves the giver feeling as balanced and energized as the receiver.

Shiatsu was developed from traditional oriental massage and, in common with acupuncture and other oriental therapies, it works upon the body’s energetic system, using the network of meridians or energy pathways which relates to the functioning of the internal organs as well as our emotional, psychological and spiritual harmony. The concept of the body as an ‘energetic’ organism comes from ancient Chinese thought, and through centuries of experience and study has evolved into a system of medical theory which is both rich and poetic.

Shiatsu uses physical pressure and meridian stretches to unblock the dams - which show up as tight muscles and areas of stiffness - and revitalize the empty areas - which may feel cold, weak or just needing to be held. Oriental medical theory provides a framework by which the practitioner can asses the body’s energetic state and needs, and can explain why the body holds tension in certain areas or points and feels weak in others.

The techniques used in Shiatsu are both simple and profound. We are all familiar with ‘the healing power of touch’.

All forms of bodywork and massage can fulfill the need for touch, but Shiatsu is particularly applicable and practical in an everyday setting for a variety of reasons. One important aspect is that the receiver remains clothed during the treatment. In removing clothes is a further challenge that can leave the receiver feeling uncomfortably vulnerable. Another aspect is the slow and sustained holding pressure which characterizes Shiatsu actively encourages conscious relaxation. This allows the psychological mechanisms governing muscle tension to release more efficiently than with some other forms of bodywork. Shiatsu is very practical as it does not need any equipment.

Free Quality Website Links That Can Improve Search Engine Visibility - Free SEO Advice

There is no debate that links from quality websites pointing to your key web pages will help your search engine visibility. Google and Yahoo have both recognized the importance of allowing web owners to see who is linking to their website with search commands such as “link:” in the search box.

How to get quality inbound links is a good topic for a debate among SEO consultants. In my opinion, before you open up your wallet and pay for inbound links to your website, you should get all the free quality links that are available with little effort. After you create these free listings, wait 30 days and see if they appear in the Google and Yahoo list using the “link” commands.

If your free listing shows as an inbound link, it is a good indication that these free listings are valued by Google and Yahoo and then you can consider upgrading the listings with additional monies.

When I talk about free inbound links I am not talking about participating with link farm websites that have little content and their sole purpose is to post PPC ads and encourage people to exchange links with their site. Associating with link farms is dangerous because sending a link from your site to theirs, when you have no control of the content, could backfire and hurt you.

The free links I am talking about are from reputable organizations that offer free basic web listings which include your website URL. The fact that they allow you to enter your website URL is key to building a link. Some directories only allow your URL to be entered when you pay for a listing, like www.yellowpages.com; Keep note of these for a later date when you are done with all the free sites.

The list I have created below is a great starter list and you should make sure your company information and website is listed accurately. We have a more complete list that we use for our clients but these are some of the best sites that have proven to work so give them a look:

  • Merchant Circle
  • Yahoo Local
  • Superpages
  • City Search
  • New Jersey Business Directory
  • B to B Directory Online
  • Biz Highway
  • Adding Your Company to Create a Link

Be patient when adding your listing. In most cases you have to search for your company’s name in their database FIRST. If it comes up, most allow you to claim the listing and setup a free account to edit and add information.

If your company is not listed, in most cases you will find a link to add your company as a free listing. In all cases you will need to setup a free account. Just be careful to look for the area where you can select a “basic” or “free” listing.

The goal of these sites is twofold; they want to have the best directory on the Internet and they also will contact you to upgrade your listing. In the second case, see if their basic link is working for you and then decide if you want to upgrade. Since there is no obligation or buying requirement, a basic listing may be all you need. It will take up to 30 days to see these newly created inbound links get traffic from web bots and spiders. To see some case studies of SEO success using good inbound links and good SEO content, check our Case Studies on our website. To see what a completed listing looks like, for example, go to Merchant Circle and type: Pasch Consulting Group. When asked for location type: Rumson, NJ

An Additional SEO Link Building Idea

Yahoo Local is just starting to offer a free five page website on their Yahoo Local listings. Get in on the ground floor and pick a URL name that is rich with your keywords in your State. The current tool is very basic but once again, you can create value inbound links to your primary website.

Your Yahoo Local website URL can contain great keywords for your business. There many other sites that offer good free links, so check Yahoo and Google for these companies. Take a look at the sites and make sure they look and feel right. Websites that look like an ad farm should be avoided.

Brian Pasch is a writer on various Internet Marketing topics and is the CEO of the Pasch Consulting Group. His SEO case studies can be reviewed at http://seo.brianpasch.com/case_studies.htm The author derives no revenue from recommending any directory sites in this article. You should evaluate each directory as to their viability to your specific website.

Communications Tips From Your Strategic Thinking Business Coach

“The Greatest problem in communication is the illusion that it has been accomplished.” George Bernard Shaw The great quote by George Bernard Shaw confirms what I have experienced in my 35 plus year career. And in my past 23 years in my own business, I cannot think of a single instance where “communication” was not listed as a problem, challenge, frustration, irritant, etc. in the focus groups, discussion groups and other strategic planning endeavors I have conducted. Communication is a challenge. And it is an opportunity for very positive impressions if one works at doing it effectively.

And let’s remember that communications involves listening and hearing also. I have seen and heard a multitude of slogans and communication campaigns that tout a company, organization or individual as a good listener. Well, I also want to know if they hear as well as they listen. Yes, we need to hear what someone is saying also.

In searching for some quick tips to share with you on communications, I found the following:

Listening, really listening, with our whole being, is a skill and one of the most important compliments we can give another human being. The following 10 “rules” can help.

Stop Talking! It is difficult to listen and speak at the same time.

Put the other person at ease. Give them space and time and “permission” to speak their peace. How we look at them, how we stand or sit, makes a huge difference. Relax, and let them relax as well.

Show the other person that you want to hear them. Look at them. Nod when you can agree, ask them to explain further if you don’t understand. Listen to understand them and their words, rather than just for your turn.

Remove distractions. Good listening means being willing to turn off the TV, close a door, or stop reading your mail. Give the speaker your full attention, and let them know they are getting your full attention.

Empathize with the other person. Especially if they are telling you something personal or painful, or something you intensely disagree with, take a moment to stand in their shoes, to look at the situation from their point of view.

Be patient. Some people take longer to find the right word, to make a point or clarify an issue. Give the speaker time to get it all out before you jump in with your reply.

Watch your own emotions. If what they are saying creates an emotional response in you, be extra careful to listen carefully, with attention to the intent and full meaning of their words. When we are angry, frightened or upset, we often miss critical parts of what is being said to us.

Be very slow to disagree, criticize or argue. Even if you disagree, let them have their point of view. If you respond in a way that makes the other person defensive, even if you “win” the argument, you may lose something far more valuable!

Ask lots of questions. Ask the speaker to clarify, to say more, give an example, or explain further. It will help them speak more precisely and it will help you hear and understand them more accurately.

STOP TALKING! This is both the first and the last point, because all other tools depend on it. Nature gave us two ears and only one tongue, which is a gentle hint that we should listen twice as much as we talk.

Make Money on eBay - Wholesale Prices = Wholesale Quantities

One of the most important activities for all eBay sellers is locating products that they can resell on eBay. Those products must fall into the right market niches, they must be readily available, and they must be priced so that a profit can be made. After all the sellers’ businesses are being operated to make money on eBay.

Yet locating suppliers that will provide pricing that allows for a profit can be a real challenge. There are some simple truths about wholesale suppliers. One of those truths is that to buy at their lowest prices, wholesalers will expect eBay sellers to make purchases of larger quantities of items.

For many eBay sellers the quantity requirements will simply be too great. The wholesaler will expect so many to be purchased that the eBay seller will be unable to make the purchase.

Limitations might be in the total dollar investment required to purchase the items. It might be in the total quantity and the storage that comes with that quantity. It might be the estimated size of the market and concerns about being able to sell out of the items. No matter what the reason, many sellers will simply be unable to make the purchase. That puts them in the position of being unable to make money on eBay because they have no products to sell.

The good news is that there are other options. The first option should be to renegotiate the order size. Possibly the wholesaler will accept a smaller order for little or no change in price. Possibly the order can remain at the same price, but will be split between you and other buyers who are in the same situation. Possibly the order can be split into two shipments that come weeks apart if storage is the problem.

When all options have been exhausted with that supplier, move on to other wholesalers. Keep looking and you may just find the right supplier to help you make money on eBay.

How to Choose a Good Web Host

If you’re out in the Internet market looking for a web host, then you would have come across loads of ads promising you all sorts of things - 99% uptime, Fort Knox-like security, customer support that never sleeps, free shopping carts and blah blah and more blah blah.

How do you filter through these claims and pick out a good web host for your web site? Well, we have the answers for you - Here’s how you check a web host to see if he’s worth keeping or chucking:

    1. What’s his customer support like? Does he have a 24/7 hotline that makes you talk to a recorded voice that promises to pass on your message, or do you talk to a real person? Does his 24/7 online support mean that he gives you a ticket, which his staff will look into after the weekend? A good web host will generally return your calls in 2 hours and will feature live online support. The same goes for technical support too - it must be on 24/7 and there should be a knowledgeable person talking to you.

    2. What’s his infrastructure like? A good web host must have the latest, scalable servers, not just that: the web host must have a redundant server too that comes on when anything goes wrong with the main server. The bandwidth should be fed in from two separate, super fast lines just in case anything goes wrong with one. A generator that runs for 24 hours must be around if the power supply hits a snag. The server must be located in a disaster-free area. And, the web host must back up all data on his servers daily just in case anything happens.

    3. What’s his software support? Does your web host support the latest software including the latest e-commerce and database software? Will he scale up his software if your website needs that technological push in the future? Does he support the Operating System you want to use? Does he provide telephonic installation help? Ask him all these questions.

    4. Does he have a reputation? Check your web host’s client list to figure if he is reputed or not - A good web host will have big and esteemed clients. Is your web host financially sound? Do his clients speak well of him? Find out all this.

    5. Does he provide web analytics? You need to analyze the traffic that comes to your website and for that you need your web host to install a tracking software right into his server and not on your site, because it will slow down your site. If your web host does not provide you with web analytics, don’t even consider him.

Remember, space and costs are not a constraint because nearly every host offers 2-5 gigs at a low rate per month, which should be sufficient unless you want to launch MP3-Part2.com. Everything that’s written above will clue you in about what to look for in a web host. So, go right ahead, and start searching for one.
