Gortys or Gortyn is one of the most important ancient cities of prehistoric Crete. Almost 100,000 tourists visited the archaeological site of Gortys in 2006. Whilst its story goes back as far as the Minoan period, one particularly important period was that which followed the occupation of Crete by the Dorians (1100 BC). Later, during the Roman occupation (68 BC), Gortys was the largest city and the Capital of Crete and Northern Africa. The city was destroyed in 828 AD by Arabs.

One of the many important facts about Gortys is that it was the first city that accepted Christianity. The first Christian temples were built there and the remains of the biggest and most important Christian cathedral of Crete can still be seen today. The cathedral is dedicated to St. Titus, the first Bishop of Crete (6th century AD).

Parts of the Roman settlement, such as the theater (2nd century AD), have been unearthed during excavations. The theatre has two entrances and a halfcircular orchestra the outline of which can still be seen today.

Behind the Roman Theater you can see the socalled “Queen of the Inscriptions”. These inscriptions are the laws of the city of Gortys. The law code of Gortys is inscribed, in the Dorian dialect, on large stone slabs and it is still plainly visible.

The heart of Roman Gortys, is the Praetorium, the seat of the Roman Governor of Crete. Praetorium was built in the 1st century AD, but it was altered significantly over the next eight centuries. In the same area you will admire the ruins of the Roman baths, as well as the temple of Apollo and the temple of the Egyptian gods.

Gortys is connected to the myth of Zeus and Europe. Zeus, the father of all gods, fell in love with Europe, the princess of Finiki in Asia Minor. The young princess was playing with her friends by the beach when Zeus transformed into a beautiful white bull and galloped towards her. Europe admired the approaching bull and jumped on his back. Zeus (still as a bull) galloped off and crossed the sea until they reached the city of Gortys. He and Europe had an affair under a plane tree (platanos), a tree that may be still be seen today in Gortys.

Following this affair three boys were born and they later became the kings of the three Minoan Palaces in Crete. The mention of ‘Europe’ in this myth gives weight to the claim that the civilization of the European continent was born on the island of Crete.

Learning how to make money on the internet is problematic for many people. You may well be one of them. The internet certainly offers unprecedented opportunity. However, it does so against a backdrop of increasing competition. Let me explain…

The problem is that in all your enthusiasm, you’d forgotten one huge detail. And that is you are competing with around 2 billion other websites for traffic! What you’re attempting to do in creating and selling from new website is one of the hardest tasks you can undertake.

But all is not lost. I have a solution for you. When you hear it you’ll probably think it’s not relevant, or it’s too gross, or you’re not going to stoop to that level, or something similar to those sentiments. But please, hear me out…

What you should do with your new product, is sell it on eBay.

Why would I suggest that? Well, the main reason is money - your money. And the second reason is time - your time.

You may not become the King of eBay, but you can have your product up and for sale on eBay literally within a few minutes. You can have sold some of your products, collected the money and shipped the products within a few days. And all without learning how to create a website or how to drive traffic to it.

The reason this strategy works is that putting items for sale on eBay is as simple as completing an onscreen form.

And then, eBay’s secret weapon kicks in to work magically for you. You can’t stop this secret weapon, even if you wanted to. The secret weapon that eBay gives you is traffic. As much as you can handle.

eBay gets billions of visitors each month, all looking to buy items. Your only task is to get your tiny percentage of eBay’s traffic to see your product on eBay. And there is a host of free material available on the internet to show you how to make eBay work for you.

I ask you, where is the logic in trying to make money by setting up a website from scratch and then in attempting to attract visitors in competition with billions of other websites?

Take the eBay route. You’ll be in business faster, longer and richer!

The sweeping transformation is an important part of GM’s blueprint to build Cadillac into a truly global luxury brand that can compete with the likes of Mercedes-Benz and BMW in terms of size and price. Aside from using top-of-the-line auto parts such as GM wheel and others, the automaker has set a concrete plan on how to further enhance the quality of the Cadillac.

The redesigned CTS sedan which is part of the new products will arrive this fall and will be presented as a 2008 model. It will be followed in 2009 by a new CTS coupe and wagon. These two products are aimed more for the European market but will be sold also in North America.

Basically the new CTS is the forerunner of Cadillac’s “next-generation” look which is subtle and less angular than the Art & Science theme pioneered by the original CTS. The styling inspiration of the CTS is derived from the Cadillac Sixteen concept which debuted four years ago at the 2003 North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

As part of the company’s move to a more global image, Cadillac also plans to continue its shift to rear-wheel drive. Such move includes the launching of two new high-end RWD sedans which are directed primarily for North America and a low-end RWD sedan that could replace the BLS compact in Europe.

By 2012, Cadillac will also offer a range of vehicles on four different RWD platforms beginning with a new compact architecture known as Alpha. An updated version of the Sigma platform highlights the ‘08 CTS, while the next generation DTS luxury sedan and a new V12 flagship sedan known as the XLS will be built on the upcoming Zeta platform. The replacement for the XLR roadster will share the new C7 platform with the next generation Chevrolet Corvette.

Additional part of Cadillac’s plans is to add a new midrange crossover vehicle known internally as the BRX which is an off the premium version of the all-wheel drive Theta platform. This new platform is also referred to by suppliers in the code name TE.

The Cadillac’s plan would have some casualties such as the SRX and the STS which will be replaced by new and updated models. The new Alpha platform is said to be the masterpiece of GM product czar Bob Lutz which will be used as the base for a broad range of midsize rear-wheel-drive models for several GM brands which will include Holden, Cadillac, Opel, Saab, Pontiac, Vauxhall, and Chevrolet.

According to GM suppliers the Alpha will make use of bits and pieces from the Kappa platform that will serve as the base for both the Pontiac Solstice and Saturn Sky. It can be remembered that General Motors has provided a sneak preview of the Alpha at the Holden Torana Showcar in Australia. The current design for the Alpha includes a flexible platform that can accommodate both rear and all-wheel-drive as well as GM’s Ecotec four-cylinder engine family.

The top engine choice would possibly be a twin-cam 2.4 liter inline-4, with a supercharged version available for performance-oriented models. Also to be offered across the range is a six-speed manual and automatic transmission.

According to some reliable sources inside General Motors, Lutz would like to see the Alpha platform employed in place of the front-wheel-drive Epsilon II platform on a number of GM products and that would include the planned replacements for the Cadillac BLS and Pontiac G6. Likewise, Chevrolet may also get an Alpha-based successor to the Malibu sedan or a coupe companion named as the Chevelle. The range of Alpha models is expected to reach market by 2010 to 2011.

Do you have a client for whom your product or service has made a noticeable difference in their life? Are they happy to speak publicly about your business? If so, their local paper may be interested in featuring you both.

8. Offer a prize for a competition -
Many publications are happy to mention your business if you donate a competition prize - and then again when they’re announcing who’s won. The value of this sort of free publicity will far outweigh what it costs you to donate a prize.

9. Be topical… -
Link what you do to something that’s happening currently or is coming up soon.

10. …And timely -
Most monthly publications plan issues 3-6 months in advance, so for example if you want to be featured in the January issue you will need to submit information by the preceding September. Topical TV and radio shows have a much shorter lead-in time so ask if you’re not sure.

In the news: General Motors—world’s number one automaker and producer of GM window regulator– have presented two new Buick models during a press conference lunch held in New York. The presentation of the Buick models was made way ahead of next week’s opening of the New York Auto Show. The Buick models that were unveiled include the LaCrosse Super and the larger Lucerne Super which both reflects the effort of the automaker in reviving the Buick brand.

The two new Buick models were given more horsepower coupled with nice interior touches. Buick stressed that it is not trying to attract younger audience which is contrary to what most outside GM insist that the brand needs to survive. On the other hand Buick would like to attract a new generation of older buyers. The average age of a Buick sedan owner is 65 however today’s 65-year olds no longer fit the stereotype of the weakling white-shoed retiree in which Buick was popularly associated with.

According to Steve Shannon, GM’s general manager for Buick, the brand is not embarrassed by its appeal to a demographic that is referred to as simply as “grown-ups”. He also added, “They pay cash, they’re not credit challenged. So these are virtuous, wonderful consumers. They can appreciate nicer things, they can afford nicer things.” Plus many of them would likely appreciate a little more power under the hood.

The “Super” name will be added to some Buick models to reflect performance-oriented versions with upgraded powertrains and suspensions. And to differentiate the cars from other Buick cars they will bear distinctive exterior markings.

The Buick LaCrosse is the brand’s most affordable model and will be given a slight makeover coupled with some exterior modifications. Both of the Buick LaCrosse Super and Lucerne Super are to be equipped with larger and more powerful engines pus both of these models will also have interior upgrades.

The LaCrosse Super is powered by a 5.3 liter, 300 horsepower V8 engine. It has a fuel saving feature in which the engine shuts off four of its cylinders during highway cruising when their power is not required. The car’s steering and suspension will also be modified to improve handling and road feel.

The Lucerne Super for its part will have a 292 horsepower, version of the 4.6 liter V8 engine that is currently offered as an option for the base Lucerne. Aside from a powerful engine the Lucerne will also get interior upgrades which include a leather-wrapped instrument panel and other interior touches.

The LaCrosse is scheduled to hit dealerships this summer while the Lucerne Super is scheduled to hit showrooms in the spring of 2008. GM has not yet announced the pricing of the cars but Shannon said that the price premium over an ordinary LaCRosse or Lucerne would be modest. The current price tag of the LaCrosse is about $30,000 without the options while the price for the Lucerne increases to $35,000. Buick has been the low key luxury brand for its sibling the Cadillac since GM was formed in 1909.

There’s lots of energy inside General Motors today and this renewed optimism is brought about by the recent report of profit which the company earned for the end of the fourth quarter of 2006. From among the Cadillac lines of engine, the GT is considered to be the wild one, powered by a 6.0 liter V8 churning out 363 horsepower and 391 foot pounds of torque delivering 0 to 100 km/h sprints in a matter of 5.5 seconds.

And since the Pontiac GTO was never launched at the Great White North then the G8 is viewed to be much better looking than the GT which is considered to be a more practical successor. The G8 is a four-door vehicle and suitable for families as well as enthusiasts. The G8 will be imported from Australia but will still make use of genuine GM components like for its GM window motors and others.

Aussies may see the G8 as a variant of the Holden Commodore but folks from the Great White North will see only see a remarkably powerful car. The earlier GM vehicle brought to the Chicago Auto Show earlier this year possess sexy, inflated body work with an intimidating fender flares. The package includes 20-inch wheels and huge brake discs. General Motors maker of quality GM parts has never really backed out from any challenge especially if it comes from Toyota Motor Corporation which as we all know is hot on the heels of the world’s number 1 automaker. GM is planning to go head-to-head with ToMoCo in targeting fuel-conscious consumers. The world’s number one automaker will sell the cheapest hybrid, the Saturn Aura on the US market, as announced by GM last Monday.

A hybrid version of the Saturn Aura sedan is scheduled to hit showrooms this month and will carry a price tag of $22,695 approximately $100 less than Toyota’s trend setting Prius hybrid. The Aura will be the very first hybrid sedan that will be sold in the United States produced by an American automaker.

And similar to the Prius, the Aura hybrid will also get tax incentives. Aura buyers will be able to take advantage of the $1,300 tax break as part of the federal government’s drive to attract more drivers to purchase hybrid cars. According to Saturn General Manager Jill Lajdziak the tax break given by the government makes true hybrid fuel savings available to more people than ever before.

GM after realizing the enormous success that Toyota Motor obtained from being an environmentally friendly technologically advanced carmaker has finally decided to join the bandwagon. GM’s announcement came at the eve of the President Bush’s visit at the Fairfax Assembly Plant in Kansas City, Kan., where both versions of the Aura are made.

The automaker has also set 2010 goal to start production on all electric car called the Chevrolet Volt which is scheduled to come out with other hybrids that employ different types of technology. The Aura will go up against the Prius which is one of the most popular hybrids in the US with 107,000 units sold last year.

However, beginning in April Prius buyers will be eligible only for $787 federal tax credit which means that GM will have the advantage since its Aura hybrid will have $1,300 tax break. This federal tax credit gradually declines as more and more of a particular model is sold. GM lists the Aura Green Line’s EPA fuel economy rating obtaining 28 miles per gallon in the city and 35 mpg on the highway.

Despite the fact that gas-electric hybrid vehicles cost several thousand dollars more than conventional models; they have become popular with buyers as fuel prices fluctuate wildly.
