Why No Affair is Ever a Mistake

Often one hears men, particularly celebrities or those in the public eye (British Prime Minister John Major and his mistress Edwina Currie come to mind), when their affairs are outed, bemoaning what a mistake it was (always the men, for this one!) and how mad they must have been to have that affair. But that is such nonsense, when taken with hindsight, as well as being most derogatory and insulting to the women involved. It is a futile exercise comparing feelings across time. No one ever makes a mistake in their choice of partners. Our choices are dictated by that essential moment in time, the way we felt then, even if they are not appropriate now. Regardless of the options we had before us, that final choice was the only one we felt capable of accepting at that single moment, for whatever reason.

We are constantly seeking happiness through personal reinforcement, affirmation, significance and value because our overriding need in life is to be accepted and wanted. Our parents and partners usually provide that for us. When it is missing through a lack of attraction, being taken for granted, being ignored or simply falling out of love, we seek it elsewhere. Our actions are always dictated by one primary factor the way we FEEL at that moment in time. Feelings and emotions control us and that is why, no matter how upright and conservative we are in actions, alcohol releases our inhibitions and the feelings we try to suppress. If we are feeling down, isolated, unloved and excluded we are likely to behave in an entirely different manner, more negative and selfish, than if we feel wanted, uplifted, loved and appreciated. Therefore apologising for behaving badly is pointless because that represents the negative side of our character. We cannot apologise for who we are. The best thing is to learn from it and move on. Otherwise apologies and regrets become substitutes for the continuing bad behaviour. We can always apologise, which then makes it right!

No affair is ever a mistake because it was the choice of that moment to improve our feelings, whatever they were at the time. What happened then might not be the right thing for now, three or five years on, when times and feelings have progressed, but the decision we make at any point regarding the involvement of others is always the appropriate one for that precise moment because of our evolution. If we could have behaved differently then, we most certainly would have done so, and that is a point worth stressing. Very few people act without reason or need. Regret comes only when our mood and situation have changed, or we lost something valuable in the process, then we use hindsight, and the mood and experience of today, to judge the inadequacy, immaturity or momentary madness of yesterday.

Learning from the Situation

Most importantly, the consequences of the choices we make, whether positive or negative, help to shape our individual development and experience. It is thus pointless living in a land of regret, beating ourselves over the head because of unplanned detours we made in our lives. We cannot make excuses for past action we cannot change, because the very act of behaving in that manner will have actually influenced and shaped the person we have become.

Furthermore, that relationship was probably necessary to get the two parties involved through a difficult period of their life; to reinforce them as valued people and to clarify the issues around them. Having benefited from it and moved on, the relationship cannot then be viewed as a mistake! It was a crucial part of defining the people involved, the situation they were in, the pressing needs they had and where they both wanted to go. If they are not too happy with the outcome, the best they can do is to learn from it and avoid a repetition, but it will still have added to, or even changed, their perspectives on life for the better. The least they would have learned is that an affair is never the answer to resolving a problematic relationship.

No experience in our life is ever wasted and every direction we take is part of our natural development. If you steal as a child because of a dare with friends, or it was easy to do, it is pointless berating yourself for that act 20 years later when you are more mature and knowledgeable about life and when those acts of deviance with your peers helped to reinforce you then and make you into the character you are now. Regrets do nothing but diminsh our esteem and induce self-doubt. However, acknowledging those actions as stages in our evolution and development, and using them as learning tools to improve the quality of our life and interaction with others, will make the biggest difference to our journey.

Swing trading and other types of investors put substantial time and research into selecting the best stocks in which to place their money. However, it is not unusual to find those same investors haven’t spent a similar amount of time in determining when to sell or pull out. This can be especially true of the first time investor.

The good news is that if you have chosen the stocks to purchase carefully and wisely, you hopefully won’t need to pull out for a very long time. Maybe even as far in the future as when you are ready to retire.

But there will inevitably be specific instances when you will need to consider selling your stocks before you have reached your financial goals.

You may think that the time to sell is when the stock value is about to drop, and it could be your broker has advised you to do this. However, this isn’t necessarily the right course of action.

Stocks go up and down all the time, depending on the economy and other factors. And the economy itself has a relationship with the perceived value of the stock market. This is why it can be hard to determine whether you should sell your stock or not. Stocks go down, but they also tend to go back up.

The best advice is to do more research, and understand the stability and performance of the companies in which you invest. Certain changes in corporations have a profound impact on the value of the stock. For instance, a new CEO can affect the value of stock. A plummet in the industry can affect a stock. A prospective take-over bid can affect the price of the stock. Many things, all combined, affect the value of stock. But there are really only three good reasons to sell a stock.

The first reason is having reached your financial goals. For example, once you’ve reached retirement, you may wish to sell your stocks and put your money in safer financial vehicles, such as a savings account. This is a common practice for those who have invested for the purpose of financing their retirement.

The second reason to sell a stock is if there are major changes in the business you are investing in that cause, or will cause, the value of the stock to drop with little or no possibility of the value rising again. Ideally, you would sell your stock in this situation before the value starts to drop.

If the value of the stock spikes, this is the third reason you may want to sell. If your stock is valued at $100 per share today, but rises suddenly to $200 per share next week, it could be a great time to sell. This would be especially true, if you feel the outlook is that the value will drop back down. In this instance, hopefully you’re able to sell when the stock was worth $200 per share.

If you are new to swing trading and other types of trading, you should definitely consult with your broker or a financial advisor before buying or selling stocks. Making the right decisions at both ends of your transaction can be the difference between profit and loss in your investments.

There are many techniques you can use to temporarily increase your brainpower. These include problem solving techniques, exercises in imagination, and stimulants like deep breathing or caffeine. Some argue that these don’t actually increase IQ, but only temporarily improve performance. But since you can choose to use them all the time, including during IQ tests, the improvement can be permanent.

Of course, to do anything consistently and repeatedly over time is a difficult goal. What if you want to make real and permanent improvements? Can you increase brainpower permanently, or at least as permanently as things can be for mortals?

Yes, you can change the physical structure of your brain, in order to improve its function. There are two basic ways to do it. The first is to physically build and strengthen your brain with mental exercises. The second is to strengthen it by doing certain physical exercises.

Mental Exercises To Increase Brainpower

Mental exercises do not just create temporary changes in your thinking. Exercising the brain has been shown in many studies to actually generate new neuronal growth. It has even been shown to halt the decline of mental function that often comes with age.

What mental exercises should you do? Ideally ones that you enjoy, because you will get more involved and be more likely to keep doing them. There have been many activities used to test neuronal growth that results from exercising the brain. No specific ones have been singled out as more effective yet, so we are left using our common sense.

Watching TV, for example, is not mental exercise, because it is too passive. Doing crossword puzzles certainly is good mental exercise, as is playing word games, arguing philosophy, or doing mental math while driving. Other possibilities include learning and using memory techniques, habitually redesigning things in your imagination, and inventing lyrics as you sing a song.

Physical Exercises To Increase Brainpower

Physical exercise has been shown to improve brain function indirectly. This is easy to understand. A better cardiovascular system means better blood flow, and it is blood that carries that much-needed oxygen to the brain. Of course, this better oxygen supply to the brain will persist only as long as you stay in shape. Are there physical exercises or activities that will make more permanent changes in the brain?

Yes. Activities which involve timing and coordination cause dendrite growth in the brain, resulting in more possible connections in your brain. Having more connections means learning and thinking can be more flexible and efficient. Physical exercise, then, can increase brainpower - if it is the right type.

Athletic activities likely to help include tennis, basketball, soccer, and tossing around a frisbee. Less athletic activities that require a lot of coordination and timing will also accomplish the same thing. These include playing musical instruments, especially those that require precise timing, like piano playing. You can also try activities which involve hand-eye coordination, like painting or drawing.

Meditation, which is part physical and part mental activity, also changes the structure of the brain. Recent research shows that it increases the thickness of the cortex in those areas that are involved in sensory processing and attention - the prefrontal cortex and the right anterior insula. Other studies show that highly skilled musicians and linguists also have thickening in the relevant areas of the cortex.

Bottom line? Areas of the brain that you exercise grow bigger, from new neurons, and from bigger blood vessels and supporting structures like glia and astrocytes, and from increased branching and connections. It is clear that you can increase your brainpower by physically improving your brain.

Prefabricated Homes - The Good, The Bad And The Downright Ugly

Warning: fsockopen() [function.fsockopen]: php_network_getaddresses: getaddrinfo failed: Name or service not known in /wwwroot/gphone-android.com/wp-includes/class-snoopy.php on line 1142

Now, would not it be great if the prefab industry could build extremely beautiful and gorgeous looking homes in a week - homes that would satisfy every individual whim and taste and still be very, very cheap and affordable to everyone ?

That would of course be great ! But the problem has always been satisfying every individual taste and yet making prefabricated homes easily affordable to the vast majority of the people. You see, if prefab homes have to be made affordable, then at least a few designs would have to be mass produced. And if just a few designs were to be mass produced, then a majority of the homes will start looking and feeling the same. And people always want their homes to be better looking than their neighbours’ homes. Which essentially means that mass producing homes may not work. So prefabricated homes cannot always be made cheaper than homes built the regular way.

But still, the prefab industry offers a ray of hope for today’s environmentally conscious people. They do have their strengths. But like many other promising things in life, not everything about them may be hunky-dory either. Here is a brief list of the tradeoffs …

The Good - Why A Pre-Fabricated Home

Prefabricated homes are fast to build, and they are not as damaging to the environment as building a home the regular way could be. They offer the potential to reduce wastage and offer the benefits of mass production - lower prices, faster and easier to build, and a range of designs to choose from.

Fewer defects, much faster construction, lesser skill requirements, reduced energy consumption and wastage are possible the chief benefits of prefabricated homes. But that is not all - in colder climates, faster construction is essential because the building period is relatively shorter. And prefab homes reduce the amount of disruption the neighbours will have to put up with.

If you have deep pockets and relatively expensive tastes and are very environmentally conscious, the a prefabricated home may be just what may be good for you.

The Bad - Just How Much Does It Cost ?

No prefabricated home manufacturer may be able to give you a quote without seeing the site where the home will be built. And the final cost may depend on many factors and so it may be almost impossible to get a good idea of what the home is going to cost before the manufacturer has had a chance to get to see the site and talk with you about your tastes and requirements.

Though prefab homes are said to be available at all budgets, it does help if money is not a constraint as some of the best designs - especially the very high end high tech designs - do cost quite some money to build. The low cost designs may not be very appealing to everyone.

The truly lovely prefabricated designs are still designed mainly for the high income families and affordable prefabricated home designs that appeal to a large percentage of the population may not yet be exactly around the corner.

And The Downright Ugly - What Are The Disadvantages ?

Many of the supposed advantages of prefabricated homes are still hotly contested and may still need to be proven definitively. Some people opine that prefabricated homes actually may cost more than traditional homes. And prefabricated homes are manufactured at factories that have fixed overheads - labour, plant and machinery and more - and this makes it difficult for the prefabricated industry to respond to changing market conditions.

To manufacture homes at very low costs, the prefabricated industry will have to mass produce homes in very large quantities. But for that to happen, the prefab industry will need to have very large capacities. Unless this happens, the costs of prefabricated homes may not drop very appreciably.

And contrary to what may appear to be the case, prefabricated homes may actually need a lot more skilled labour to precisely assemble factory made parts. Otherwise, all the benefits of prefabricated homes may not be available to the occupants of the homes.

Also, there seems to be scanty evidence that prefabricated homes actually reduce wastage. In case there is a problem with a design that already has become very popular, then lots of homes will have to be repaired because they would all have been mass produced. This could actually increase the amount of wastage in manufacture and transport.

Then there is the question of value - will most people be willing to pay as much for prefabricated homes as they would for a traditional home built using methods they have become so familiar comfortable with ?

That said, the prefabricated industry is still in its infancy and offers several advantages including the potential to reduce the harmful impact on the environment - something that could become a very important concern in the near future. But arriving at designs that are both affordable and appealing to the majority of the people and environmentally friendly may still be a long way to go.

The Myths About Coaching

The Truth about Business and Executive Coaching

People from all walks of life are jumping onto the coaching bandwagon, lured by stories of £100,000 salaries, many with little or zero experience are fighting for their piece of the pie.
Let’s get down to facts and demolish a few myths, mostly generated by the coaching industry itself.

Myth One; you can earn at least £5000 a week/month as a life/business/executive coach
Fact: 40% of coaches earn less than 10k a year, and the majority struggle to remain in the profession for more than a year. The reality is in the majority of cases it’s the coach training organisations that are raking in the money.

Myth Two; Coaching is officially recognised
Fact; There is not one official coach training orgainisation or body that is recognised by any government anywhere in the world. The reality is that some of the larger “international” coaching associations were privately founded by commercial training companies for the purpose of externally ‘legitimising’ their training courses. These types of associations typically have a private business agenda that concentrates on adding large numbers of members to their database for revenue generating purposes.

Myth Three; Clients are crying out for coaches
Fact; The industry has more coaches than clients, during a survey over 50% of ICF coaches said it took them over two years to obtain their first coaching assignment. Every week a new coaching company springs up offering “certification”, the industry is already saturated with ill equipped, “coaches” with little or no actual practical experience, coaches are crying out for clients.

Myth Four; You need a ICF (international coach federation) diploma to be recognised as a legitimate coach
Fact; The ICF was formed in the mid 1990’s by Coach U, a USA based online coach provider for the purpose of certifying their own life coaching courses.

Myth Five; Certification adds credibility and confirms level of experience
Fact: Certification means absolutely zilch and does not qualify someone as having the best skills and experience as a business/executive coach.

Myth Six; Coaching organisations are selective in who they admit on to a coach training programme.
Fact: They couldn’t care less as long as you can cough up the cash.

Myth; Coaching can be done over the phone
Fact: Hmm really? How can a coach possibly offer expert advice without meeting the individual face to face? Can a Doctor diagnose an Illness over the phone? No he wants to examine you first. The same applies to coaching, a one on one meeting is essential in the first instance for the effective implementation of a coaching protocol. Then and only then can coaching assignments be carried out at a distance.

So what is important about selecting a coach for your business?
Experience in business! Theo Paphitis on a recent edition of BBC2’s Dragons Den was approached by a prospective entrepreneur to set up a coaching project. When questioned about how many years she had studied, she replied none, I trained with a master over two months (NLP master in this case), the only masters are school masters or as they are more commonly known head teachers or head masters or ships masters. If anyone calls themselves a master run a mile. She was then questioned what practical business experience she had. Answer none. Theo quite rightly then questioned how anyone could set them selves up as a business coach/trainer/mentor/consultant with out actually having experience in business!. As was expected all Dragons, quickly dismissed the business model as impractical.

Lets face it if you need your car serviced you get a qualified mechanic who has had many years experience working on cars, preferably on your make. If you want your plumbing fixed you get a qualified plumber who has served his/her time as an apprentice fixing many sinks etc, if you have gynacologist problems you go to a qualified gynaecologist not a plumber!

The same rule of thumb applies to taking on a coach, if you want to get your sales team motivated, hire a coach that has worked in sales, if you want a coach to help your grow your business get one that has either run his own business for at least five years or who has worked at a senior level for a major blue chip company. If you want a coach to motivate and inspire your staff to overcome obstacles, setbacks and problems get one that has started a business, or preferably several, gone bust, lost everything and started again.

Trust me on this he will offer more value and practical experience to your company than anyone who has a “certificate”.

The coaches’ role is to improve results and performance, coaches don’t know everything and should hold their hand up and say I don’t know rather than trying to be all things to all men. Executives don’t want yet another course, they need unbiased support and constructive input and criticism, the same approach does not work with every client. If you have a suite tailor made in saville row, it wont fit others. Coaching is the same, individual and bespoke taking the needs of the individual balanced with the needs of the client into account.

Recently a number of couples I know are getting a divorce. One relationship ended because one of them found someone who met their needs more than their spouse did and another marriage is ending due to lack of passion. A third couple is calling it quits not because of one particular issue, but instead because of a building up of many little things that went unresolved and turned into one big problem. In each case, one of the partners in the relationship didn’t realize that things were that bad until it was too late and the relationship was beyond repair.

After thinking about these failed relationships, I realized that this is often the same situations that happen in business everyday. Customers sever ties with companies leaving owners scratching their heads wondering “what happened, I thought they liked us.”

Each day, customers are leaving relationships with companies at rates that rival the national divorce rate. So what can companies learn from these divorcing couples that will help them retain customers?

Like the first couple, many companies feel they lose customers because someone better comes along. They think that with cheaper prices, more selection, or bigger advertising budgets, how can they compete? While on the surface this may be true, a customer’s decision was probably not a snap one. Over time, the company failed to meet their needs one little thing at a time. Then “pool boy” came along and the customer fell deeply in love with this new company because it promised to fulfill every need and had cheaper prices, more selection, and better advertising.

The second couple’s problems centered on passion. Passion is critical for customer retention, but that passion is not one-sided. Companies must also have a passion for their customers. They must appreciate them and strive to provide an extraordinary experience which fuels passion or else customers will leave for a younger, sexier company that ignites their passion.

Finally, the third couple offers a valuable lesson. Little issues that go unresolved can add up to big problems. Everything you say and do creates the customer experience, so be proactive and try to solve issues before they arise. Even proactive companies can’t always be perfect, but they can offer extraordinary experiences when they aren’t. If you mess-up, admit it and make the resolution of the issue an extraordinary experience. A problem moment can often be the best opportunity to “wow” a customer and gain them as a passionate advocate.

So work on your relationships each day and make every interaction extraordinary. If you don’t, you may wake up one day to customers asking you for divorce.

Riding Kid ATVs

In the past few years the popularity of kid ATVs has really exploded. Riding kid ATVs has become very popular because of the strides in safety for ATVs and the affordability of kid ATVs.

While riding kid ATVs has become a lot safer over the last few years, it still must be understood that the ATVs are not toys. ATVs are machines and can be very dangerous if they are not ridden responsibly. Therefore, children must be taught how to properly ride an ATV. Before a child begins to ride the ATV he/she should be aware of all the rules that must be followed. Also, the child should completely know how to work the ATV.

Children should also be supervised when they are riding kid ATVs. The perfect and fun way for parents to do this is to ride with their child. That way everyone can have a good time while riding ATVs.

All children should also wear a helmet at all times. Whether or not it’s required by law, helmets always need to be worn while riding kid ATVs. Preferably the helmets should not only cover the head but also the face. Some type of eye protection should also be worn at all times.

It’s also important to buy an ATV that fits the rider. You don’t want the ATV to be too big or too small for the rider. So make sure the ATV is the right size so that safety isn’t compromised.

ATVs used to be quite expensive. However, with the expiration of patents and the advance in the technology of making ATVs, kid ATVs have become very affordable. In fact, many good smaller ATVs can be bought for well under one thousand dollars.

A couple of the better less expensive models are the Jetmoto 110cc and the Kazuma MX-50. Of course the more you spend, the bigger and better ATV you can get. However, some of the less inexpensive ATVs are actually very good quality.

One thing you want to make sure of is that you buy your ATV from a reputable dealer. You want to be sure that the dealer has or can get replacement parts for the ATV. You also want to see how long it will take if and when you need to get replacement parts.

There are actually some very good ATV dealers right on the internet. Some of these dealers will even deliver your kid ATV for free.

Riding kid ATVs has become very popular recently. This is because of the affordability and the increase in safety for kids ATVs. It seems that the popularity of kids ATVs will only continue to grow as the product continues to become safer and more affordable.
