Pet owners do have extra considerations in purchasing cars. This is because they wanted to ensure safety and comfort even on board a car. Simply, they wanted the best for their pooches, felines and all other animals that a person could actually own as a pet.

Above all features, safety is ranking high. Safety features cover fabric used and height of doorstep. Dog owners, for one, rate cars according to safety and slobber concerns. This is the reason why some automakers are entertaining dog-friendly features in their product lines.

When traveling in a car, “animals need to be treated like people,” said Joe Wiesenfelder who works as a senior editor at Cars.com in Chicago. “The absolute best thing is to have the pet restrained, in a crate or in a harness,” he said.

One of the famed automaker for pet lovers is Volvo. It is one of the handfuls of car makers that promote features specifically for dog hauling. Volvo is not only considering safety of persons but occupants in general, including pets. Hence, when it is designing cars, the quality of Volvo strut mount or other auto parts is not the only consideration - it takes into account other features to make it stand out from the rest of the cars in the market.

The Volvo V70 station wagon which is priced at $30,045 carries a steel barrier between the back seat and the cargo area. Volvo also sells vertical dividers and a back gate that swings open and they are priced at $157 and $95, respectively. The options are available in the XC70 and the XC90.

Traveling with dogs requires necessary accessories. The dogs, almost always, leaves wads of hair, slobber and annoying aftermaths of queasy tummies. Lisa Peterson, a dog breeder and the director of club communications for the American Kennel Club, said that she has driven as far as Denver from her home in Connecticut to enter her three Norwegian elkhounds in dog shows. So every time she travels, she carries large travel crates for her dogs.

Peterson added, “I measured my back clearance and made sure I had 48 inches across the back.” She also chose leather seats, which are less likely to catch the elkhounds’ long, thick hair. And she preferred a vehicle with a cargo hold that was low to the ground. “It’s easier on the wear and tear of their hips, and it’s easier to lift the kennels,” she said.

According to a recent study by the American Kennel Club, about 47 percent of dog owners think of their pets when buying a car. Most are looking for a vehicle suitable for bringing their four-legged friend to the beach or park.

Automakers like Subaru, Honda and Chrysler are also offering auto accessories to protect occupants including pets. These accessories include rubber or plastic mats, steel barrier, washable urethane flooring, expandable cargo-hold, fabric designed to resist stains from dirt, oil, and stains. Additionally, Pawshop.com, Petco Animal Supplies Inc., and other pet retailers sell removable plastic ramps that assist old or arthritic dogs climb into cars.

The Volvo C30, the newest entry-level of the automaker, has one great mission to do - and that is to attract the young generation drivers and make a purchase.

Volvo runs the extra mile to promote its compact hatchback. As a fact, it is going outside its comfort zones by invoking a new maxim: “The Volvo you have when you don’t want a Volvo.” The hatchback is especially engineered to respond to the modern needs of customers without compromising affordability. The four-seat hatchback will be the cheapest Volvo in the showroom when it goes on sale this April. The car, which is slotted under the Volvo S40 sedan, is priced at $34,450.

“The Volvo C30’s target audience does not currently shop Volvo,” said Alan Desselss, the managing director for Volvo Cars Australia. “The C30 heralds a whole new era for us. It will bring people into the brand that would not previously have considered a Volvo.”

When asked about the convincing power of the C30, Desselss has this to say: “We’re not out to convince them of anything. Our target audience is smart. They are well informed and they do their research. So we are going to engage them. We’re going to ask them for their opinion on the car. Do they love it, or hate it? Do they want it, or not?” Desselss further noted, “The C30 is a departure from the traditional Volvo mindset. It’s not a family car. It will appeal to a younger buyer, an active single or couple. And, at the moment, just one-in-eight Volvo buyers are in the ‘pre-family’ phase of their life.”

The automaker noted that majority of its consumers are aged between 36 and 54. Desselss believes the Volvo C30 will resonate well with the under-35s group. The Volvo C30’s goal is to bring customers into the ‘family’ earlier than any vehicle in its current lineup can. Desselss added, “We anticipate that three of every four C30 buyers will have not owned a Volvo before.”

The Volvo C30 hatchback shares much of its auto parts with its sibling - the bigger S40 sedan. The Volvo steering rack, suspension, engines and some body panels are the same. Volvo Cars, the Swedish brand of the Ford Motor Co., allowed the C30 to use some components of the Focus including its turbocharged engine. “The diesel engine it uses is a very advanced unit, and costs significantly more than a petrol engine to produce,” said Desselss. “We think buyers will be attracted to the diesel for environmental reasons.”

Todd Hallenbeck, the Volvo spokesman, said, “We expect they will know these things and we’re not going to try and hide it. We think they will see the value, refinement, resale and other advantages that the C30 has. “We’d love to steal sales from the Focus XR5. It’s a competitor just like the Audi A3, BMW 1-Series and Volkswagen Golf.”

Winter’s final blast is over and it is high time to think of the thrilling adventures of spring. Budding flowers on the garden, birds chirping on the trees, soft breeze brushing your hair, and the exciting ride offered by a convertible are few of the reasons to long for the spring to come. But spring is here so it is high time that you ready your extra energy to enjoy the season to the fullest extent.

It is high time to go bold and topless. No, not you. I mean the cars. The convertibles can do that to your satisfaction. They could offer you one-exciting spring ride. Wherever you are in the globe you can share the joys of convertibles. They come in different colors, shapes, styles, amenities and prices. This year’s hottest convertibles include the Saturn Sky Redline, Volvo C70, and the Chevrolet Corvette.

The latest Saturn Sky has transformed from a monotonous coupe to a surprisingly stunning machine. To deviate from the usual, the Saturn Sky Redline is given an aggressive and sharp stance. It was also given a hearty performance boost coming from its turbocharged four-cylinder engine. The Sky is a front-engine, rear-wheel-drive roadster with a relatively huge front end and tiny rear deck, just like the Solstice. The Saturn Sky defines what a pure American vehicle could do. The 2007 Saturn Sky Redline is priced at $29,025 while the turbo version starts at $25,325.

Another gorgeous coupe is the 2007 Volvo C70. The enchantment is not on Volvo starters - it is on its drop top feature. The roof of the Volvo C70 is the center of attention. With the motorized whirring, harmonized separation and exactness of folding, viewers cannot help but be amazed.

The Volvo C70, a two-door coupe, is the kind of vehicle fit for aficionados who wanted the free-spirited ride offered by a convertible. With just a button-push away, the C70 could already offer the wonders of a convertible. The car is has a base MSRP of $38,710.

If you wanted visceral escapades, the 2007 Corvette Convertible could lead you there. Thinking of a romantic weekend getaway? Let Corvette show you the way and cruise under the blue-hued sky.

If you are a European car fanatic, you might find the Corvette overly forceful. However, according to an aficionado, “While I’m a fan of many European brands, I still enjoy whatever chance I get to drive the latest version of Chevrolet’s iconic sports car. I actually didn’t car much for the last iteration — the ’90s version in particular had a sheen of middle-age-crisis and Viagra-prescription desperation — the new, shorter and more agile model is a visual treat.” The 2007 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible has a base MSRP of $53,335.

Guided Imagery can often provide considerable healing benefits by using the mind to affect the body.

The brain uses images and other senses such as smell and hearing to communicate with other organs.

What can Guided Imagery do for you?

*Heal Yourself & Gain Better Health
*Reduce Stress & Anxiety
*Sports Enhancement
*Leadership and Self Confidence
*Reduce High Blood Pressure
*Lower Cholesterol
*Boost Immunity
*Weight Loss
*Reduce Pain

Just imagine what else is possible with Guided Imagery.

Guided Imagery can help you heal, ease pain and even speed recovery. It’s quite remarkable how you can use the power of your mind to heal yourself. Guided Imagery works by the mind visualizing images, sounds, smells, pain or whatever.

By using images you are using the minds language. The brain understands these images and uses them to communicate with your body.

You could say “Cut, I want you to heal”, but you should imagine your wound actually healing by visualizing it. Watch it starting to shrink, as it heals until it’s completely gone in your mind. This is what the brain can understand.

You may want to become aware of other images you have at times that aren’t in your best interest. When you have realized this, be sure to replace these with positive images.

Your thoughts have an influence on how you feel and heal. Try your best to eliminate negative thoughts. Staying positive brings on even more meaning when you understand how your mind works.

Imagery has been use in ancient civilization and has been understood for ages by many. Now you too can benefit from this knowledge.

Athletes today use Guided Imagery to enhance their performance, stamina and accuracy. In billiards, before you actually shoot a ball, visualize it going where you want it to. Your brain will genuinely believe it, and your shot will improve.

See it, feel it and experience it before you do it. That’s the power of Guided Imagery or visualization.

So if you want better health, less stress and anxiety or the desire to improve your quality of life then you owe it to yourself to learn more about Guided Imagery.

Besides the health benefits you can vastly improve your leadership ability, job performance and mental attitude, all of which will let you enjoy a better lifestyle.

Hopefully I perked your curiosity enough for you to explore this further. For starters, search the World Wide Web for information on Guided Imagery.

Do you have a project simmering on the back burner? Is there something keeping you from moving the intention up to the front burner, where the heat is, where it will really start cooking? I’ve had projects like that, we all have. To stay with the culinary analogy for just a little longer, here is a simple recipe that may help you to make your project the pot-boiler that you know it can be. Here are the vital ingredients…

Discern - Dare - Do.

I told you that the program was simple. In fact, you have probably used this recipe many times before, without realizing it. By identifying the steps and consciously putting them into practice, you now have a method which guides the process more smoothly.

Discern:

This is not a hap-hazard waiting for inspiration that may take too long to arrive, if it ever does. When we intentionally discern a project or opportunity, we are using our intellect to recognize and observe its significant features. We discriminate, judge even, and find that we have made an expansive analysis of the pros and cons, in a more formal and usually, more beneficial manner.

Dare:

Yes, every accomplishment requires an element of daring. I said it was simple, but it does require courage and to dare always implies an element of boldness. This comes as no surprise, as every act of creativity, no matter how modest, has within it an element of risk. Some latter-day sage has said that to accomplish spectacular things, one must be prepared to fail in a spectacular manner. When we think of great art, architecture, or our modern day space exploration, we quickly realize the truth in the sage’s observation. It goes without saying then, we must approach the venture courageously.

Do:

The final ingredient seems simple enough. Certainly, to accomplish anything we must act. But, how many worth-while projects have died at this stage? Many times the modest word “do” has been defeated by its much bigger foe, “procrastination.” Do or die, the hero says. It may be that she/he becomes a hero by the recognition of this truism. This may be the most essential of the three steps. We must make a supreme effort to “do.”

The three “Ds” will lead us in a logical and pragmatic pattern, to the accomplishment of our desired task. Each step builds on the previous one and with each step we gain confidence and momentum until the deed is done. You will then realize that once again, the three “Ds” will have triumphed over inertia, indecision and yes, even procrastination.

Learning how to stop a panic attack before it really begins is an important step in the recovery from anxiety and panic issues.

While there are a number of techniques that can be utilized in order to take back control from a panic or anxiety attack it is imperative that you first take the time to discover the biological responses behind panic and anxiety attacks. Once you understand why the physical symptoms that you experience during a panic attack are caused you can then begin taking back control. Although a panic attack is certainly frightening, the biological responses behind it are quite normal. An attack occurs when adrenaline is released into your bloodstream. When you sense fear, regardless of what the trigger was, a signal is automatically sent to the adrenal glands that you are in an emergency. They begin to work overtime and the adrenaline is released into your body in order to amplify your abilities in order to respond to the perceived emergency. This is frequently referred to as the fight or flight response. It is this release of adrenaline that results in many of the physical symptoms most commonly associated with panic attacks including a rapid heartbeat.

Frequently many people misinterpret these symptoms and believe they are having a heart attack, going crazy or that they are even about to die. This increases the sense of fear and even more adrenaline is pumped into the bloodstream, resulting in even stronger symptoms.

When you learn to recognize what is going on with your body you can begin to take back control of the situation. The first key that is necessary to stop a panic attack is to halt the message to the adrenal glands that there is an emergency. As long as the adrenal glands are receiving that message they will continue to produce and release adrenaline.

While a panic attack can last several minutes, if you can recognize what is going on and immediately begin to implement some steps to halt the production of adrenaline you can stop the panic attack within just a couple of minutes.

When you first begin to sense the symptoms of a panic attack coming on, it is imperative that you make an attempt to relax. If you can, even welcome the panic attack. Avoid thinking about “what if.” Take some deep breaths from your diaphragm. Put a half to negative thoughts. This is a common problem with most panic attacks. Your thoughts begin to race, going in every direction and often veer toward negative topics. It is imperative that you stop these thoughts. If you need to do so, verbally tell yourself to “stop!”

Remind yourself that this is just a physical response to a trigger and that you are going to be fine. Tell yourself, repeatedly if necessary, that this is just the fear speaking and that you are not going to die/go crazy.

Continue to take deep breaths and repeat calming statements. Within a couple of minutes the symptoms should begin to dissipate.

By taking the time to better understand the physical responses that are involved you can learn how to stop a panic attack and take back control of your life.

How to Develop Great Presentation Skills - Building Rapport With the Audience (Part 1)

There is an important rule to remember during presentations. The audience is KING! Yes, the audience can make or break you. The audience is who you want to reach out to with your message, pitch etc. There is no need to fear the audience. With practice, you’ll feel much more positively about your audience and in turn, more confident about presenting to them. Remember, the audience is simply made up of individual human beings much like you. I always believe that each person in the audience expects your best and hopes that you deliver your best.

Genuine rapport is based on empathy. Confident presentations are made by people who respect their audience and who use their entire repertoire of communication skills to really connect with their audience.

In part one of this article, we will look at establishing rapport using elements of communication skills

1. Vocal tone:

That’s where the dreaded word monotonous comes in. This will put your audience to sleep. If you your voice is really mono-toned, please consider hiring a speech coach.

2. Facial expressions:

Rehearse your facial expressions using a mirror, or better still, a video. Check that your facial expressions are appropriate and varied. Using the mirror or a video, please check that you have minimized or eliminated any nervous facial gestures you make. Once you are aware of the various weird or crazy facial expressions that you make, you can go on to correct them.

3. Hand gestures:

I have the habit for speaking with my hands, so I’ve had to tame them a bit. Make sure you don’t look too wooden or too distracting.

4. Pacing:

Speak slowly. Don’t rush through. Having said that, don’t speak too slowly as well cause this will only irritate the audience and make you sound stupid. Worldwide, there is an accepted proper pace for optimum comprehension by your audience. What I suggest is to record yourself reading out three minutes of your presentation at your normal pace. If in three minutes you were able to cover more than 480 words, you’re speaking way too quickly. If in three minutes, you only covered 420, the snoring in your audience will let you know that you’re speaking way too slow!!! Hence about 450 words in three minutes would be optimum

5. Pitch:

Please don’t commit the terrible crime of ending your sentences by going up in pitch - unless you are in fact, asking a question. As a rule of thumb, if you really want to emphasize a point, a piece of information, lower your pitch for the last couple of words in your sentence. Make sure you establish plenty of eye contact.

In Part 2 of this article I will give you more tips on how to win over your audience.

The following article is adapted from my new ebook: “How to Develop Great Presentation Skills”. If you like the tools to be able to improve your presentation skills by 100 folds, yes 100 folds please visit

Why LCD Monitors Are Better Than CRT

When choosing a new computer monitor, there are many choices and options available on the market. Consider whether or not you are looking for sharp graphics, bright colors and sleek designs. Perhaps you need a larger monitor for videos or games. Or, perhaps, you just need a basic monitor for basic computer functions. There are two types of monitors to choose from, LCD and CRT. Here are some reasons why LCD monitors are the top choice for computer buyers.

CRT (cathode-ray tubes) is a basic, inexpensive computer screen. While they are inexpensive, they are often bulky and take up a lot of room on a computer desk. Flat screen CRT monitors are also available, but they often create a glare, making sitting at the computer hard on the eyes.

LCD (liquid crystal display) is the newest trend in computer monitors. They are often more expensive but offer many advantages over traditional CRT screens. They also offer sleek, space saving designs and as an added benefit, are good for the user. Space: LCD screens take up considerably less space than CRT monitors. This is a perfect option for those who are short on space. Most computer users do not have unlimited amounts of space to store their computer equipment. With the LCD screen, it can be moved closer to a wall to increase desk space. Some LCD screens can even be mounted on the wall. It is possible to get a larger screen, and still take up less space than a CRT. The actual viewing size of an LCD is much bigger than that of a traditional CRT. A 12-inch LCD screen has only a slight smaller viewing area than a typical 14-inch CRT screen. When purchasing a new LCD screen, remember that the advertised size is the actual viewing area of the screen. This is not always so with a CRT monitor.

Better for health: LCD screens are healthier to use, too. CRT screens direct radiation equal to three electron beams constantly towards the user. Those beams are refreshed every 60-80 seconds. Many people even buy special radiation shields for their CRT screens. Also, the constant refreshing of the screen causes strain on the eyes. Not so with the LCD monitor. LCD monitors use pixels that alternate between on and off. This reduces the strain and fatigue on the eyes. Also, CRT screens are heavy and bulky. The LCD screen weighs about 20 pounds less than a CRT helping to save on muscle strain. Quality: LCD screens have the best image quality of any computer monitor on the market. It has sharp, crisp pictures and has excellent contrast. While a CRT monitor works more like a television, the LCD screens has the technology found in digital watches with a fine mesh of tiny crystals displaying the colors. This makes a higher quality picture on the screen.

The color quality of the LCD far outperforms a CRT screen. Many of the newer LCD screens have unlimited color capabilities, while a CRT screen has limited colors. The resolution on the LCD is also better than a CRT. With an LCD monitor, the resolution is generally the highest resolution possible. With that, the display appears much more in focus and sharp. A CRT screen has a limited amount of video resolution.

LCD screens are way ahead of traditional CRT monitors when space and quality is an issue. The health benefits of the LCD make it an appealing choice as well. As far as price goes, the LCD usually does cost more than the traditional CRT screen. However, a CRT screen will use more energy in the long run. The LCD is more energy efficient making it a wise choice for those looking to save on energy costs. The prices of LCD screens have gone down in the last couple of years. The cost of energy could add up for businesses or people who have multiple computers.

In addition LCD monitors are now sold with a wide variety of extras such as built in speakers, or jack outlets for headphones or microphones. Others might have multiple input connections so more than one computer can be hooked together. Accessories such as anti-glare filters and stands can also be purchased with LCD screens

Hypertension kidney effects are well publicized into today’s world of health
consciousness. Doctors are constantly reminding us of their dangers. So why
is it that so many people are still confused, not only by the idea of
hypertension but the kidneys themselves? The answer is simple: you can’t
just say hypertension kidney effects are devastating; you have to explain
what they actually are. Otherwise, people will continue to suffer
needlessly. Hypertension can be avoided; kidney damage can be avoided. You
just have to know what these things are and what to look out for.

Your kidneys work to remove extra waste and fluid from your body (on
average, they process close to two hundred quarts of blood a day). When you
have high blood pressure, however, this process becomes difficult–if not
impossible. High blood pressure, which can easily become the more serious
hypertension, constricts the blood vessels in your kidneys. With a normal
range, usually one hundred twenty over eighty, fluids are uninhibited, able
to move throughout the vessels. When your blood pressure reaches the level
of hypertension, though, the blood vessels grow small and fluid cannot
escape. This can have devastating effects on your kidneys and the rest of
your body.

This is what hypertension does to you. It can be avoided, however, with a
combination of lifestyle changes and medication. You must, of course,
consult with your doctor before undertaking any new sort of life regimen but
the suggestions below are steps that most people can do:

One: lose weight. I know this is never what people want to hear, but to combat hypertension kidney effects, you should begin an exercise and dieting program and loose those extra pounds. Blood pressure correlates with the strain you put on your body; the more your heart has to work, the higher the numbers will be. You need to start a program that will help you lose weight and maintain a healthier lifestyle. Simple actions like daily walks and cutting back on calorie-heavy foods will do much to help keep your blood pressure under control. This will, of course, help you avoid hypertension kidney troubles.

Two: learn moderation. You must at the very least cut down on vices such as drinking or smoking. It is, of course, recommended that you stop these activities entirely. Hypertension has been directly linked to those with elevated drinking
patterns. Overindulging when drinking and continuing to smoke just puts a greater strain on your body. Another thing to moderate is your salt intake; this is not just a seasoning. In truth, salt plays a vicious part of hypertension kidney
effects. It can easily raise your blood pressure level and constrict blood vessels. There are plenty of other seasonings you can add to food to give flavor such as herbs, garlic or black pepper.

Three: take medication. Consult with your doctor about the value of certain
medications and how they will effect you. Prescriptions like angiotensin
converting enzymes have been proven to provide protection to the kidneys and
keep blood pressure levels in a normal range. Naturally, if you have other
health issues like diabetes, then certain medicines may not be available to
you. Your doctor will be able to direct you to the proper ones.

Of course, you may not need medication at all. If your blood pressure levels
are closer to normal, simple life changes may be enough to maintain a
healthy number and keep hypertension kidney effects from occurring. Many
find that daily exercise and dieting will dramatically lower their blood pressure.
There are some debates over the value of certain diets, however (such as the
vegetarian lifestyle and how it relates to hypertension). Still, you will
find that the changes mentioned above are healthy choices to make when you understand how they work to keep you and your body in top form.

Kevin, tell us - what are the most important considerations when someone is setting up a driving range? Frequently, when people approach us about designing a driving range they are just thinking about the range. When we meet with our clients, we try to help them understand that it may make sense to think about this as more than just a driving range. Ideally it should be a golf learning center. This can include a putting green, some practice bunkers, possibly a place for some indoor lessons.

We try to help them understand that, as a marketing tool, the nicer your practice facility is the better positioned you will be at attracting new members, especially if you are a private club. It really is a benefit and an asset. If we can do something more than just a driving range, it will serve the golf course well.

What are the kinds of things you look at when setting up an exceptional driving range? In this day and age, with the developments of technology, we generally have to set up the range to be about 330 yards long because people are simply driving the ball that much farther these days.

So we start with a driving range, then we like to set up an area at the back of the tee where we can set up mats. This is helpful because sometimes you may need to work on the driving area and you might want the turf to be able to recuperate.

We also like to see a good putting area that is about 10,000 - 15,000 square feet.

We also encourage some sort of short game facility. That could be another practice green that would have some chipping areas, some practice bunkers, something that you could hit something 20 - 60 yards.

We generally try to provide some sort of a facility that would allow you to practice all aspects of the game, including: driving, chipping, putting and sand shots.

I’m sure safety has to be an important consideration when you are setting these up? Orientation and having adequate space are two important considerations.. We generally would not want to have a driving range that would have other high traffic areas such as a golf hole or the clubhouse or houses on the right side of the range, the slice side of the hole. So we always try to separate that a little bit.

What about driving range nets? Whenever possible, we try to put the practice facility where we don’t have to use nets. Nets can be quite expensive and not particularly attractive so we avoid them whenever possible.

What about how the range stalls are set up and the design of actual facility? There’s some common sense issues like circulation on and around the teeing area, things that we do about radiusing the tee (pointing the tee a little left of center), looking at the overall orientation, the prevailing winds, the rising or the setting sun. Ideally we would like to set the range up to the northeast - we don’t like it pointing directly to the east or the west.

We also like to set up some target greens on the range so that there is something interesting for people to aim for.

What about considerations for the actual landing area? There can be problems with the golf balls getting beat up if the surface of the driving range is not in good condition. Problems like rocky surfaces, poor drainage, etc.

This is really a function of turf quality and maintenance and proper construction. You want to make sure that rocks and debris are removed before you put the seed in the ground. You need to also make sure that you have a quality stand of grass out there. Irrigation, fertilizer, maintenance and drainage are all important to make sure you have good healthy turf.

Any other considerations that a developer should consider when they are developing a driving range? I would suggest that if people are considering building a practice facility they should find themselves an architect to work through the process of exploring their options. I would encourage them to get detailed plans and work out all the details of drainage and safety issues.
