Choosing Plants for Your Betta Fish Tank

Betta fish use plants as a defensive strategy in their natural environments. This allows them to avoid contact with predators and other male Bettas Nervous or threatened-feeling Bettas will squeeze through close together plants to escape danger. Because of this, it is important to include some kind of plant in your Betta’s tank, to reduce stress and allow it to feel that it can hide. While some people prefer artificial plants in their aquariums, live plants help to take care of harmful chemical byproducts in the tank, such as ammonia, nitrite and nitrates. They also perform the important function of gas exchange, keeping the water more oxygenated than an environment without plants or with artificial plants. Soft and leafy plants are preferred, to prevent damage to the Betta’s scales should it squeeze between leaves or branches.

Plants do require light, however. An aquarium with live plants should have either access to sunlight or a light built into the hood. Some plants which are recommended for use with Betta fish are the floating Water Sprite, Hornwort, and Elodea. Tiger Lotus is considered good for use in tanks with breeding Bettas since it puts out a lily-pad-like leaf that sits on the surface of the water. Male Bettas use this leaf to shelter their bubble nests. Be sure to keep an eye on your Betta tank’s plants, since dead and rotting vegetation can be bad for the water quality. Java Moss and Java Ferns can thrive in uncycled bowls without any filtration. They also require low to medium light, and are thus suitable for aquariums or enclosures that cannot be put close to a window.

Live plants for your Betta tank can be found locally from some aquarium stores or ordered from the Internet. All plants should be bright green and very healthy looking. They should also be quarantined before placing them in with the fish, to make sure that they do not carry diseases or parasites that could harm your Betta Be sure to acquire plants from a reputable source. It is wise to do some research into your supplier before purchasing live plants for your Betta tank. Bettas tend to interact more with live plants than with artificial plants. Many types of artificial plants are also rough and could damage fins and scales. Unlike fake plants, real ones will also sway attractively in the water as the fish swims through them. When the time comes to clean the tank, some plants can be gently removed and rinsed if this is desired. This is particularly easy when using free floating plants like the Java fern.

Travel as Teacher

Travel. It is the one way a person can really get to know them self. One of the healthiest ways to understand one’s self and all its abilities and limitations is to go to some place that is different from what we are used to. It will challenge the traveler to navigate through the streets of his destination and sometimes the murky waters of the soul. There is nothing like travel. It is always an experience that one will always learn something from, it is the ultimate teacher. It gives each traveler the gift of a new perspective and new understanding about the world. It can be at once awesome, frustrating, humbling and inspiring. Sometimes our journeys do not lead us where we want to go, but where we are supposed to go. We are given the opportunity every time we travel to learn the lessons about life that we can learn in no other classroom but the vast world, and all its people, animals and plants have to teach us.

Travel enriches life in a way not possible through any other modality, and there is always so much more to learn and see and gain perspective on. Life is a journey, and each person’s journey is enriched by the people we meet, the places we go and our own experiences.

In learning about other cultures, especially ones in ones own country, that are so misunderstood, the realization comes that you can learn so much by putting yourself there, with the people and on the land. People are often misinformed about other countries in the world, because all one sees on the news are the bad parts the poverty, the dangers, the misfortune. However, there are gems to be found everywhere! If people were actually to go to new, interesting and sometimes feared places, interact with the people there, eat the food, walk on land, see the art and just be in that space, perspectives would certainly change. When you see how the other half lives it is inspiring and humbling. At that point “the outside world” is no longer an abstraction or a fear, it is a place you have been. It has become part of you, part of your life’s experience. It is people you have had a meal with, or a store you bought something in. Your life is forever changed, and you can carry that knowledge with you, and when you hear things about that place where you have been that is misunderstood or perhaps even other places you have yet to go, you have a new and different lens to see the truth in it.

When you see with your own eyes how people who live in intense poverty also have some of the richest lives, your life is enriched and you will never be the same again, guaranteed. You begin to ask yourself the basic, important questions in life. You wonder how much does a person really need to be happy? Or more importantly What IS happiness and how do I get there for myself? How much extravagance do I really need in my life?

What better way to answer those questions than to go out there, get out of your comfort zone and get more from your life!

With so many concerns today with identity theft and stolen credit cards, the safety of transacting business with a merchant who is willing to accept a credit card by phone remains on the minds of many people. We know that with secure websites, firewalls, and other safety precautions, the Internet is usually a safe place for transacting business using a credit card, but what about using the phone for credit card processing? How safe is it to give your credit card information to someone on the other end of a telephone? This is especially of concern with so many people today using only wireless or cordless telephones.

Unfortunately, many people still think of the telephone as a mechanism that is safer than that of the Internet, but the problem with that line of thinking is that there are no safeguards built into the telephone. It’s easy for anyone with even a minor knowledge of electronics to learn how to tap into someone’s phone line and record their conversations, including those that obtain personal information such as social security numbers, credit card numbers, bank account information, and much more. This is simpler still with cordless phones that actually access radio towers rather than telephone lines. Remember the influx of irregularities of the 900 numbers that were billed to people’s phone lines as direct dial access, and there was no one home at the time? Many fought with the phone companies over that, and some were stuck paying bills for charges they never made. Consider if things are really much different than before? It appears that with all the advances in technology, it is likely that the problem has worsened.

For those who think it’s safer to transact business with a merchant who is willing to accept a credit card by phone, think of this-the person at the other end of that line may take your credit card numbers and use them for his or her own benefit. With a computer-generated purchase on a secure network, no one at the company sees your credit card information. It is securely stored within the confines of the credit card processing system, which is why many online retailers ask for the secure three-digit code that is on the back of your credit card. The code identifies that card with an individual person as it is making its way from the SSL network to the computer of the credit card processing company, and finally, the credit card issuer. None of the personal information reaches the hands or eyes of a person unless you fail to secure your information, and it finds its way into the hands of a hacker. For the shopper who wants to protect his or her identity, the chances of that happening are far less than the risks you take when placing an order over the hone to a person.

Of course, there are those who don’t have access to a computer that rely on the integrity of merchants who will accept a credit card by phone, and this will likely never change. However, for those customers, it’s important that you follow all precautions, not the least of which is to never give your credit card number to anyone who calls you. If you are not the one making the original phone call, then protect your personal information. Instead, ask for a number to return the call.

It didn’t seem like too long ago that you had just begun working on your new network marketing opportunity. Each and every day you would talk about how much money you were going to make and what you had planned to do with the money when you made it.

Now for some reason you have decided to give up your dream and quit working with the network marketing company. When asked about it you answer half-heartedly saying I guess it wasn’t for me, it was just too hard, etc. After speaking to you a little more about it you reveal that your spouse was getting mad about how much you were spending trying to get your business off the ground. You can’t really blame your spouse for having a job mentality and not understanding that it costs money to make money when you are in business. You don’t just go in work for eight hours and go home with a paycheck.

After speaking with your spouse further about your business you learn that your spouse is really behind you on your effort even though they don’t understand it. The main objection was the amount of money being spent on the network marketing opportunity. There is a big range on what each network marketing business costs to operate. You really have to investigate the whole aspect of the business. If it claims to pay out a lot of money very quickly then it is safe to assume that the monthly requirement is pretty high. The high monthly requirement can be a budget challenge especially since you are not making any money yet.

If you have a budget you would be better off starting out with a less expensive network marketing opportunity. There are some as low as twelve dollars per month and they still include the free website. Of course you will have to do a lot more business to make the money that a more expensive opportunity will pay but because it is less expensive you may have a better chance of finding people interested in joining you in the business. Do your research and find an inexpensive opportunity to promote. Once you start making money with the less expensive company you can start working with the more expensive company if you would like and use the money from the less expensive one to pay for the more expensive one. Working it like that would be gentle on your household budget and keep your spouse happy.

Spring Kitchen Clean Up Tips

Spring is the time for baseball, blooms, and of course cleaning. These ten tips will guide you through this year’s kitchen clean-up. Please feel free to use them in any print or broadcast story, with appropriate attribution of source.

1.-Harsh, expensive chemicals aren’t needed to bust dirt and grime. For a natural, healthy alternative use lemon juice, baking soda, cake soap and vinegar as substitutes.
2.-Clear out your refrigerator and give it a proper cleaning. Use water and baking soda to remove stains and deodorize. Discard any expired food and add a fresh, open box of baking soda. Scrub the outside with soap and water. Finally, unplug the unit and vacuum the condenser coils to remove dirt and dust.
3.-Ovens, stoves and vent hoods can get filthy fast. Use soap and water to clean the cook-top, burners and knobs. Remove the knobs first to get all the dirt behind them. Next, deep clean the over, as described in your owner’s manual. Finally, wipe the outside of your vent hood with hot soapy water, then remove it’s filter and soak in hot soapy water to remove grease. Rinse and dry before replacing.
4.-Wipe cabinets to remove grease. Use a sponge and warm soapy water to clean hinges, handles and pulls. For stubborn muck, use a toothbrush to loosen and then wipe clean with sponge.
5.-Remove dishes and utensils from drawers and cabinets. Wipe clean and then replace lining if needed. Run any items rarely used through the dishwasher.
6.-Clean crevices around your faucet and sink with a toothbrush and white vinegar mixed with water. Buff dry with a soft cloth. Re-caulk if needed.
7.-Deodorize your drains and garbage disposal. Pour ½ cup baking soda, ½ cup ice and ½ sliced lemon into the disposal. Run until dissolved. For drains, pour in ½ cup baking soda and ½ cup white vinegar, cover drain and let stand for 5 minutes, then flush with warm water.
8.-Dishwashers get dirty fast. Wipe surfaces clean with warm soapy water. Run one cycle with 2 tablespoons of citric acid and ½ cup vinegar.
9.-Small appliances get grungy, too. To clean your spice or coffee grinder run ½ cup of uncooked rice through to collect oils and particles. For particularly dirty grinders, run a second cycle with one tablespoon of baking soda. Wipe completely.
10.-Soak your garbage pail with ½ cup lemon juice and 1 quart of hot water. Rinse and dry thoroughly.

“Even the cleanest of homes needs a proper spring clean-up” states Hoosier House Help owner, Jennifer MackInday. “Regardless of the size of your home, there are cleaning details that shouldn’t be overlooked. Remember, spring time is the best time to get your home in tip-top shape.”

Imagine a beautiful, classic Greek fishing village, right on the water, Greek music coming from all the seaside shops, the smells of Greek food wafting out on the sea breezes. Imagine whitewashed buildings with blue accents. You don’t have to go to Greece for this experience, just head to Tarpon Springs, Florida.

Tarpon Springs boasts the largest Greek population in the United States, as it makes up about 1/3 of the community. Its inhabitants are the descendants of Greek sponge divers who came to Florida from Greece around the turn of the century. This influence has become the backbone of Tarpon Springs and the art of Sponge Diving still exists today.

A wonderful way to start your romantic day in Tarpon Springs is at the Tarpon Springs Castle Winery, located at 320 E. Tarpon Avenue. You can usually see a sign in the front of the winery around 11:30 advertising Wine Tastings. As you enter the winery you are greeted by Diana, who will give you a history of the winery and how the wines are produced. Diana and her husband Joe make wines in the old world tradition. The entire process of wine making is done without preservatives, sugars or chemicals and is personally supervised by the family. This attention to detail and the care that is put into the making of these wines is clear when you taste them. Each of the nine wines you taste (a variety of reds, whites and dessert wines) are distinctly flavorful with a clean finish. You can experience the grapes as they were intended, not the fillers, sugars and chemicals which are components of many other wines. The tasting itself is a great bargain at $5.50 which includes a wine glass with the winery’s emblem on it to take home. If you want you can purchase a bottle of your favorite for later.

After the wine tasting, head down to the Sponge Docks, where all the action is. If you are feeling hungry, walk down Dodecanese Blvd and check out all the restaurants featuring Greek specialties. Many claim to have “The Most Authentic Greek Food” or the “Best Gyro in town, but if you want to eat at the restaurant where the Patriarch eats when he comes to town, try Mykonos. You will not be disappointed. The restaurant is family owned and has a wonderful ambiance. From the minute you walk through the doors, you feel like you are in Greece. The smells of wonderful food are overwhelming. If you listen to people talk in the restaurant you will hear a lot of Greek being spoken. Therefore the restaurant’s claim that they are “Florida’s Most Authentic Greek Cookery” seems right on the mark.

After lunch walk around the sponge docks and check out all the shops full of sponges, shells and Greek paraphernalia. If you are not into shopping you can take a boat tour to experience a live sponge dive in the traditional manner circa 1905. The sponge diver dresses in a huge orange diving suit, equipped with boots made of iron and a huge copper helmet then gets screwed onto his suit. He is then is draped with several weights. Between his suit and the weights, he gets over 170 pounds of extra weight in order to help him sink to the bottom of the bay where the sponges are. So he dives in the water and after watching him descend the depths, after a few minutes he will come up with a sponge. You will also learn about Sponge Diving, the many varieties of sponges and their uses.

After the sponge diving experience go to Hellas Bakery, the largest and best bakery in town, according to the locals. Hellas bakery has a huge variety of Greek and non-Greek pastries, as well as many varieties of coffee. Or try a Frappe, made with coffee, cream and sugar. It is frothy and delicious.

For a romantic end to your day, drive out to Fred Howard Park and Beach and enjoy a picnic while watching the sunset off the gulf coast - don’t forget that bottle of wine!

The percentage of internet users having a business/personal email account is about 90% Unites States. Internet businesses are very different then traditional businesses, many times you don’t speak or see the customers you only deal with them through the internet. Many types of Internet advertising don’t work as well as they once did.

Your most valuable asset is a list of people who have given you their permission to email them periodically. Using email confirmation is a great way of keeping your list clean, your list will only consist of people who have a real email address and who took the time to the confirm there email. We all put a lot of effort into our internet business. We all have the same hopes and dreams about where our internet business will go. Many people starting out on the Internet believe that their main marketing tool is their website. Many webmaster think that if they have a list of people and they blast a sales letter to all of them they will automatically receive traffic and sales.

If you own an auto responder many have used tricks to get by some spam filters, you can change words around like using free for the word free, since spam filters have been getting smarter they are now blocking most of the tricks. Spam blockers help the email user control the amount of junk they receive to their email boxes, now the email user has the power to decide what they will read and see and what they will not.

When creating your website you should make sure you have away of capturing email addresses, this is important when building your list. Frequently, people opt-in to receive these types of e-mails so you are not spamming people with unwanted mail. By hosting the auto responder on your own website, you have complete control over the program. If your auto responder is remotely hosted, you will not be able to get an auto responder that matched your domain name. A desktop-hosted auto responder is just a program that is run directly on your own workstation or computer. A locally-hosted auto responder is one that is hosted on your own web server. An auto responder that is hosted means that the actual software is kept on someone else’s host and you have the ability to use but not control the software.

Search Engine Marketing - How To Find Targeted Keywords That Will Dramatically Increase Your Traffic

What are targeted keywords?

Targeted keywords are those words which will connect to your website through organic
searches. These words are usually discovered with specific Internet tools such as
overture (inventory.overture.com), where you can identify keywords that are related
to your business. For example, if you sell laptops - ‘laptop’ keyword would be expensive
and unaffordable for a small business. However, you could use ‘lightweight laptop’,
‘large screen laptop’, and ‘custom laptop’ from the overture keywords tool.

Not only are these keywords less expensive, but they’re actually more effective
because they end up converting your visitors better.

How targeted keywords are used?

Once you have selected your targeted keywords, you apply them into well-written,
quality content articles. The traffic of your website will be boosted in direct
proportion with the popularity of your articles. In order to use this method optimally,
you need to pay close attention to the use of the targeted keywords in your articles.

Here are some pointers:

1.Density - Use the keyword in three to five percent density, i.e. in a text of
500 words, the keyword should be repeated a minimum of 15 times and a maximum of 25 times.
Any more or any less would either be ignored or rejected by the search engines.

2.Placement - The targeted keyword should figure in the title and first paragraph as well
as the last paragraph. A few should be kept in the body - but that is optional.

3.Cohesion - the keywords should be used in such a way that they make perfect sense in
the context of the article. Just peppering the text with the keywords when they do not
make sense would prompt rejection by the search engine.
