Although many people have now heard of audiobooks, it’s a fairy safe be that most of these people have never actually taken a moment to consider exactly what an audiobook is.

After all, unless you had an obvious interest in audiobooks, why would you take such an interest?

Likewise, some people, perhaps people who might tell you that they don’t like books, will shy away from audiobooks, simply because of the name, and the image that this name might conjure up for them.

This is a shame in many ways, because audiobooks can be, and can do, so much more than their name might suggest.

Of course, the very name audiobook will tell you that it is a book that you can access in audio format.

And this is, of course entirely correct. There are many thousands of great audiobook titles out there on the market that are literally pre-existing books that are read onto an audio soundtrack for you, the listener.

That description is, in itself, almost childishly simple, yet at the same time, extremely accurate, as far as it goes.

As the owner of my own online audiobook store at http://www.takalive.com, I can tell you that even this incredibly simplistic definition hides a couple of very important factors which partially explain the rapidly increasing popularity of audiobooks.

First, in the same way that we can all talk quicker than we can write (or punch a keyboard) we can all listen much more quickly than we can read. Also, we can listen wherever we are, and whatever we are doing, again, unlike reading a written book, which is something you can only do when the circumstances allow.

For these reasons, audiobooks are an incredibly handy and convenient alternative to the written word, although I would personally argue that audiobooks can never replace the written word.

The second thing about listening to an audiobook, assuming that you are listening o a high quality production (and you definitely should be!) then the narrator or reader will be a top professional.

Sometimes this narrator might b the creator of the original written work himself (of herself), sometimes a famous actor or sometimes a not-so famous actor who, in fact, is a specialist in voice-overs and audio text readings.

All of these different groups will bring their own interpretations to the audiobook text, and three different people may indeed bring entirely different interpretations.

For you, as a listener, this gives you the opportunity to hear, for example, a book that you have already read in a completely different voice, in an entirely new light.
Indeed, for me, as someone who listens to many audiobooks, this is one of the great delights of the audio medium. I know how I imagine the story to be told, but other people can tell if quite differently, making it, in some cases, almost a brand new story!

However, in all of these situations, we are talking a bout written books being transposed into an audio soundtrack, and here we come to the reason why audiobook is, in fact, a little bit misleading as a product title.

In many cases, audiobooks are not books at all!

Speeches, talks, sales presentations, radio and TV shows, all are available as audiobooks, although, of course, they were never books I the true sense of the word.

For example, in my own store, I have brilliant Internet Marketing presentations from industry leading figures such as John Reese and Armand Morin, lined up alongside BBC comedy classics (some free) and many, many radio favorites of the 50’s and 60’s from both sides of the Atlantic!

So, whilst the phrase audiobook is a handy shorthand term, it actually only paints a part of the overall picture, which is that many, many different and diverse types of audio works which are not, nor ever have been, actually books, are nevertheless called audiobooks.

Even if you are a person who professes to not like books, therefore, I would still urge you to give audiobooks a try.

The road to success is like a toll road. Most of us have been on a toll road at one time or another, so you know you must pay a toll or a fee for using that road or highway. You don’t have a choice - “you gotta pay.” Every so often, you stop at a toll booth, reach into your pocket and drop a coin or a token, and off you go until you get to the next toll booth. When you reach your destination, or you don’t want to pay a toll anymore, you head for the exit ramp and get off the toll road.

You must pay as long as you stay on the toll road, but incredibly some investors decide to get on the road to success and they realize real estate is the best vehicle to get them there, but they want to achieve success without having to pay a toll. They want to pay Nothing. Zilch. Nada.

Everything has a price, yet so many of us want to achieve success without paying for it. Or even when you accept the fact that you have to pay a price, you’re constantly shopping for success at bargain basement prices. You’re looking for the secret. The free pass. The easy road to “get instantly wealthy” and be done with it…NOW!

The fact is the easy road seldom leads to success. If that were the case, the road to success would be well traveled and well worn, but the road to success is hardly traveled.

Why? Because the road to success is a toll road and many investors are not willing to pay the price for success. You can get practically anything you want in life–if you are willing to pay the price.

Success is not haphazardly obtained. Like most things in life that we hold dear, it comes with a price tag.

As an investor, what’s the price tag? What’s the toll? Well, if you’re on the road to success, let me give you some coins, or tokens for you to use if you exhaust all your coins and you’re not ready to head for the exit ramp. These three coins, if you choose to use them, will help you stay on the road to success.

Coin # 1 - Persistence. Those investors that reach high achievements are steadfast in their goals and driven by persistence. Successful investors do what unsuccessful investors resist doing. Successful investors do what they must do, when they must do it, like it or not.

For example, unsuccessful investors insist on a “rejection-free” approach to finding motivated sellers when searching for bargain properties. That’s probably why too many unsuccessful investors listen to some supposed real estate gurus that have never been in the trenches, but claim to have figured out the easy way to more money, more savings, more income, more properties, more retirement, and more stuff without even breaking out into a sweat.
.
The successful investors have their share of setbacks, defeats, disappointments, mistakes, and difficulties, but nonetheless, they persist. They know success is never easy, but they also know ultimate success is worth the price.

Coin # 2 - Patience. Successful investors realize very quickly when they get on the road to success that they need patience. When you get on a toll road, you’ll have some drivers cutting in front of you, others recklessly speeding, some going so slow, but you deal with the distractions and patiently stay on the road to your destination.

The greatest liability that many investors have when getting started is not inexperience but impatience. When I attend the local REIA meetings, I hear people talking about ‘losing their patience’ or not being able to ‘find the patience’ to deal with a seller, a buyer, or a situation. But that’s exactly why they fail. They deceive themselves into thinking patience is simply lost or found.

Patience is not a commodity. Patience is a decision. You must hold on and stay on the road on as you go through your learning curve, developing your skills, waiting for the right timing, then executing with assured confidence. After all, it takes times for seeds to germinate, plants to grow, and crops to be harvested. And it takes time for you to learn how to buy a house at the right price, fix the right things that quickly create value, and then sell the house at the right price.

Patience produces power. Doing the small things over and over again will produce major accomplishments that will result in success that other investors will only dream about.

Coin # 3 - Perspiration. Years ago when I worked for corporate America, I was a frequent flier with Eastern Airlines. I remember one of their slogans very well - “We have to earn our wings every day.” Similarly, you earn your success by paying the price with hard work every day. I have this book that I read almost everyday and it has a verse that says, “All hard work brings a profit, but mere talk leads only to poverty.”

Many investors claim to be ambitious and talk about getting on the road to success, but they’re unwilling to pay the price. Yet, everyday they go to work at a job they don’t enjoy, with people they don’t like or respect, to get things to impress other people who simply don’t care. Rather than pay the price for success now, they pay a price for remaining in a place of unrest and an unfulfilled life. Really sad.

Don’t allow the price of success to deter you from achieving success. The price of success might be more than you’re willing to pay, but it will never be more than you’re capable of paying.

The road to success is narrow, and many investors will miss it because the road to failure is broad and easy. Yes, the road to an average, mediocre life is easy, but for those who have a dream, the road to success is filled with life, real security, and freedom. Are you ready to travel down this narrow road to success no matter what the price? It’s your choice - so choose wisely.

Side Stepping Potential Disasters In The Workplace - A Primer

It’s 7:30am in the morning. Your alarm clock rings. Instinctively, you hit the snooze button and go back to sleep. A fatal mistake.

You arrive at work late, for the 12th time this month. Your boss complains about your repeated late comings, conveniently “forgetting” the fact that you are always the last to leave the office, because your colleague quit his job recently and you had to pick up the slack, for no extra pay. You bear with it because you think it’s the wisest course of action.

You’re WRONG!

Contrary to popular belief, it is possible to avoid unfavorable situations in the workplace without looking like a prick.

How to avoid

–Looking lazy: Always claim your work. Put signatures in Word documents you type, programs you code, pictures you drew etc. This is very important. You may risk getting overshadowed by “louder” workers who do less work then you do. A signature tells your boss, “Hey, I did this!”

–Getting more work then you can handle: If you’ve got your hands full, say so. It is unwise to bite more then what you can chew, and you may jeopardize the company’s reputation by doing a shoddy job.

–Chatty colleagues: Most of us do not have the luxury of having their own room in the office. Among the cubicle using staff, an unlucky few sit beside colleagues that can’t seem to stop talking, whether on the phone, over the internet (skype) or worse, to you. An easy way to avoid talking to your colleagues is to listen to music when you’re working, with a headphone. Works great for music lovers. If this doesn’t work, tactfully explain that you don’t work well with interruptions. Place a sign on your desk which tells people when you’re ok for some chitchat.

Want Your Marriage to Blossom - Lighten Up

Sharing joy and playfulness was how you first experienced love and bonding as an infant. As adults, repeatedly sharing moments of playfulness and happiness will increase your bonds of love. You will have a base to help you face the challenges that will inevitably come.

Many people mistakenly believe that play, especially for adults, is a waste of time. There is the misconception that if they are not being productive, they are just taking up space.

But play is productive. It is necessary for both physical and mental health. It is relaxing and stimulating for the brain at the same time. It unleashes our creativity and increases problem solving. Laughter lowers blood pressure, reduces stress hormones and boosts immunity.

When you play, you are also fully enjoying the present moment. Past and future worries fade away, giving you a break and a chance to gain perspective.

Chances are, when you first met and started dating, you played. Through pleasant, non-competitive interactions you began to fall in love. You talked, you laughed, you touched, and you played.

If you have stopped playing in your relationship, it is time to lighten up. It is time to add some fun, some humor and some play to your everyday lives. This kind of mutual enjoyment is more than just fun. It is a chance to relax and renew your love for each other. Sharing delight and joy will bond you in a special and healing way.

Every relationship is unique and you will have your own ideas of what is funny. One example was Jamie and Alex, who had been married for 15 years. Jamie was trying to overcome a bad habit of calling Alex nasty name. One day when she was getting frustrated with him, she started, “Why you . . . you, person, you!” Her restraint and that statement broke the tension. They looked at each other and laughed. They were then able to talk things out.

Find or create you own inside jokes. Have fun together, laugh and enjoy one another. Taking time to play together will make the good times great and help smooth out the rough times. A sense of humor goes a long way toward adding life to marriage.

This type of play is not to be confused with making fun of each other. Mocking is not humor. A cutting remark, followed by I was just teasing, is not play. Humor is only funny if both parties are laughing.

Many difficult situations that occur, are things that we are able to laugh about later, sometimes years later. When we can learn to see the humor in difficult situations as they are happening, we will greatly reduce our stress, increase our ability to find solutions and strengthen our relationship.

Play is good for the heart and good for the soul. Humor and play will add joy to your relationship as well as helping to sooth hurts and struggles.

Corporation Tax Benefits

The subject of corporation tax benefits is a complicated one. Most types of business entities - sole proprietorships, partnerships, subchapter S corporations, and limited liability companies - that have not elected to be taxed as regular (or C) corporations have taxes that pass through the business. These taxes appear later on when the owners file their individual tax returns. A regular C corporation and any LLC that elects to be taxed like a corporation are separate tax entities that have to file their own tax returns and pay their own taxes.

In the previous decade, the IRS issued its so-called “Check the Box” regulations. Effective beginning 1997, these regulations allow taxpayers to choose the tax status of a business entity without regard to its corporate (or non-corporate) character. Thus, a business entity with more than one owner can elect to be classified as either a partnership or a corporation in order to gain corporation tax benefits. An entity with only one owner can elect to be classified as a corporation or a sole proprietorship. In the event of default (that is, where taxpayer does not make an election), multiple-owner businesses are classified as partnerships and single-person businesses as sole proprietorships.

A business entity that is actually incorporated under state law or one that is required to be a corporation under federal law will have access to corporation tax benefits. Limited liability companies are not automatically treated as being incorporated under state law, which is why they must elect either corporation or partnership status.

Corporation tax benefits under Federal income taxation may acquire more meaning if compared with the treatments to individual taxpayers.

The gross income determination for corporations and individuals is done in the same manner. This includes income derived from business, compensation for services rendered, gains from dealings in property, interest, rents, dividends, to name but a few. Individual and corporation tax benefits contain certain inclusions of gross income, but corporate taxpayers are allowed less exclusions. For instance, both classes of taxpayer may exclude interest on municipal bonds from gross income.

Gains and losses from property transactions are treated similarly. Where non-taxable exchanges are concerned, individual and corporation tax benefits allow non-recognition of gain or loss on a like-kind exchange. Both may defer recognized gain on an involuntary conversion of property. Neither corporations nor individuals are allowed to deduct losses on sales of property to related parties or on wash sales of securities (with certain exceptions). The business deductions of corporations also parallel those of individuals, although certain credits that are personal in nature, like child care credit, are not available to corporations.

A further corporation tax benefit is that corporations pay federal income tax at a rate lower than that of most individuals for the first $75,000 of their profits - 15% of the first $50,000 of profit and 25% of the next $25,000. Professional corporations are charged a flat 35% tax rate. All allowable corporate deductions are treated as business deductions, making the determination of adjusted gross income, which is so essential for individual taxpayers, of little relevance to the corporation. Corporate taxable income is computed simply by subtracting from gross income all allowable deductions and losses. Individuals, on the other hand, have to consider itemized deductions or the standard deduction.

Camping - Recreation or Survival

Most people camp when they travel because it is a fun, inexpensive way to spend with the family. Getting away from the city to enjoy the countryside is one reason that many chose this option for their holiday time. Just getting out in the open air is motivation itself for others. Some people like the thrill of living in the wild amongst the wild creatures in the woods.

But there are some who camp as a necessity for survival. More people are facing homelessness because of either financial problems or the inability to find affordable housing. For them what should be a means of relaxation becomes a means of survival.

What is supposed to be an enjoyable activity becomes stressful and embarrassing for family members. It is especially painful when you are business or professional people. How do hard-working people end out living at a campsite? Well I can tell you it does not happen overnight.

This article is not so much as to how a person ends up at a campsite but how they manage to live as normal a life as possible in one. In our case the first thing on our agenda was to purchase state of the art tents. We did not know how long we would be out there so weather proof tents were the first priority. Then we had to pick out a site that could be made comfortable. Most of the spots were out in the open so I felt blessed when we found a shady spot that had lots of room.

Although getting all the necessary equipment was important. The most important thing to our children was to remain inconspicuous as possible. The further we were from the main road the better they felt. They also did not want their peers to know that they were homeless. They were extremely embarrassed by all this and could not see the benefits that come with camping.

Benefits you may ask. What benefits? After all we were homeless. Well for one we had the best air supply. The negative ions coming from the ocean kept my mind clear and alert. At night I slept like a baby (forgive the pun). I did my best writing sitting on the beach taking in the sights.

Another benefit was that I could go swimming as soon as I got back from work. All I had to do was change in my swimsuit and go jump overboard. There was a shower facility at one of the beaches so I could always get cleaned up after my swim provided I did it before it closed in the evening.

Although my girls enjoyed the beach just as much as the next person, they pretended that we were camping for a holiday. They could pull it off because it was camping season and lots of people in Bermuda choose to camp during the summer even though no one is ever really far away from home.

But there were others who like us had no choice but to camp. We were all grateful that the weather was warm and comfortable most of the time. The hardest part for me was keeping the family morale up. I did not want them questioning our faith in God. It was not God’s problem that we were homeless. It was ours. But I knew that despite it all He would never leave us. We just had to believe that He was with us.

We did have a few scares while camping. There was the time there was a bad storm. I was kind of worried because our tents had not been truly tested. We only knew by the testimonials of others that they could withstand really strong winds. We were in a secluded spot so we did not get the full brunt of the wind, so we thought. But I was nervous expecting tree branches to fall on us and injure us. Not only were our tents safe, they kept us dry from the rain and the only things that fell were the Bay Grape leaves and immature Bay Grapes. Our neighbors on the other hand were soaked. They had to dry out practically all that they had.

We actually camped for six months just before it got really cold. My granddaughter’s Godfather was instrumental in finding a place for us. It was a fixer upper and we are still fixing, but the rent is low and our family is together.

I would like to camp again but this time I want to go just with my husband. This of course will be purely for recreation sake.

You read magazines and books filled with stories of famous people and you may never realize that your life stories are as interesting as the ones from them. Maybe you wonder how you could capture the events in your life and make a story out of them that would be interesting for others. And even if you have a story in your mind, you may struggle with a pen and a blank sheet of paper, not knowing where to begin.

This article will guide you through the process of discovering stories in your life, and trying on the writer’s hat.

Where are the stories in your life?

Imagine having a dinner with a friend. At some point you probably say something like “Oh, guess what?” or “I wanted to tell you about” and continue with something that happened to you, or to somebody you know, something you thought about, or something you wanted to discuss. All of these are great examples of stories.

Whenever you think about something you would like to share with somebody else, stop for a while and make a note.

You now have a story in your hands!

Your friends know you well. However, the readers of a single story from your life wouldn’t have the advantage of knowing all the facts from “the previous episodes”. Try to think what the summary of the story could be. It may be something like “A coworker took advantage of my work again”, or “My mom is always making me laugh” or “Finally, I know why my brother was acting so weird last Sunday”.

Find the point you are trying to make.

And now, imagine talking to a stranger who wants to know more about the situation. You would probably give him a little introduction, but just enough for him to understand what you are going to say next. You may omit unnecessary long descriptions, because you don’t want to lose his attention. And to keep him entertained, you’ll probably sprinkle some juicy parts here and there to keep his curiosity high. You can do it, everybody can. Just watch yourself a couple of times and you will see how good you actually are.

We are all natural storytellers.

In today’s era filled with computers and word processors it’s easy to write, rewrite, edit, move text around, or save now and continue later. You can start from the main point, from the introduction, from the closing paragraph, or from special words that you want to use in your story. It’s all up to you.

Just start writing!

Don’t be afraid to point out your vulnerabilities, failures, silly mistakes, or misunderstandings - everybody’s life is filled with them and your story is real. Right?

Don’t be shy to share your victories of what you’ve learned about yourself and others. Add flavors to the facts: feelings, metaphors, opinions, or your interpretations.

Avoid preaching - it’s easy to get caught up in telling other people how they should behave. But would you like to read that kind of story? Write what you think and include authentic examples.

I hope you can see now that you have many stories in your life. Your stories can motivate, educate, inspire or just simply entertain. Don’t let them be forgotten and share them with others.

A couple of years ago, I had attended a health/nutrition and business training meeting. I was a newbie at the business and was learning as I went. It was around the month of January and during one of these in-home meetings, I started to feel as if i were passing out. I was sniffling, and getting dizzy. Pretty much, I was coming down with the flu. One of my associates asked me if i was sick and I told her that I needed to go home but was feeling sick.

What she did for me probably changed the way i saw nutrition. Instead of the usual tylenol to suppress my pain, she gave me 6 Garlic Tablets and 5 Vitamin C tablets. I decided to take them and continue with the meeting, despite the pain.

As the hour went on, I started to notice that the pain was slowly going away. My energy suddenly returned and weird enough, the flu was gone like magic. Considering that these were not drugs (but food supplements), I became a believer and decided to devote my life to learning more about the wonders of good nutrition, health and wellness. It is a huge field.

For this article, I will be focusing on Garlic, the herb that we all love to have in our foods. Garlic is a wonderful herb and makes a great food. But Garlic is only as good as how it is handled and used.

The powerful nutrient in garlic is called Ancillin. When you break open a clove and cut the garlic fruit, the ancillin is activated. This very nutrient helps in the bloodstream and does wonders for the heart. But its real claim to fame is how it is able to fight off viruses and disease in the body.

Garlic’s nutritional powers work when it is in raw form. If it is fried, it most likely won’t be as effective, even though it always tastes better friend.

One of my very best friends is Lebanese (middle eastern). He mentioned to me that in the middle east where he grew up (Lebanon), he didn’t know what the flu was. But when he came to Canada and started eating the food here as a teenager, he later had his first flu ever. To most people, that is very strange, because everyone in North America has experienced the flu at younger ages.

It seems that the food in the middle east are herb-rich. From Falafels to Shawarmas, you name it. All nutrient-living foods. So I decided to give this a try and devoted my lunches strictly to falafel and Chicken Shawarma (my personal favorite) at Toronto’s famous Naz’s Falafel house. For almost two years during my lunch breaks, I would eat only Lebanese food. Not once did I experience the Flu, even though all my workmates were experiencing it. And I loved the food too!

Garlic supplements are also wonderful to have, if you’re not into the sharp taste. In fact, the best supplements will have pure concentration, are living food supplements and are free of any pesticides or contamination.

I would recommend that if you have a meal, whether it is Chinese or a roast beef, try dicing garlic and sprinkling it on your food. Try a little bit of ketchup (not too much! There’s sugar in ketchup) to balance the taste. Combine this with a vitamin, proteins and good carbohydrates. You’ll find that it will keep you healthy.

One suggestion is to also avoid any Soda Pop or anything Carbonated, as this can rob your body of vitamins, especially the Garlic.

Give Garlic a try, make sure it is in raw form (you can dice it.) If you feel you must have a fried, crispy Garlic Chip, at least try to sprinkle raw dices of garlic on it too, or have it on a side salad.

It’s good for your heart, your health, it fights disease and is definitely a much better alternative to the flu shots.
