The 5 Biggest Time Wasters & How to Overcome Them

The time you waste will drain you of your energies and your profits in this high-charged era of work and life. Here’s how to take fast action to overcome the five top ways we waste our time.

TIME WASTER #1: CHECKING YOUR EMAIL FIRST

Why? Checking your e-mail the very first thing in the morning takes you off track. The nature of those e-mails also may serve to increase your anxiety and stress.

ACTION PLAN:

Check your e-mail an hour or more AFTER you start your day to keep you on track.

TIME WASTER #2: KEEPING YOUR CELL PHONE ON 24/7

Why? The more often you answer your cell phone or check to see who has called during your day, the more behind you become at work.

ACTION PLAN:

Keep your cell phone off during the day, checking it only at a scheduled time you control, to get back your time. Ditto for the weekends, so you can truly relax.

TIME WASTER #3: STAYING BUSY DOING, BUT NOT PLANNING

Why? Staying busy, but not devoting time to thinking and planning, can leave you feeling disorganized and out of control, and bring your stress levels to the boiling point.

ACTION PLAN:

Schedule at least 5-10 minutes each day to STOP, THINK, PLAN and then EXECUTE. When you feel overwhelmed, ask yourself, “What is the Best Use of My Time Right Now?”

TIME WASTER #4: LEAVING NO TIME FOR EXERCISE

Why? Exercise provides oxygen to you brain to help you think more clearly and more creatively. Leaving no time for exercise drains your brainpower, as well as your energies.

ACTION PLAN:

Deep Breath. Exercise. Deep Breath. Stretch. Deep Breath. Take a quick walk. Schedule time each day to exercise, and leave your cell phone off to avoid interruptions.

TIME WASTER #5: WORKING AGAINST YOUR NATURAL ENERGY LEVEL

Why? If you’re not taking advantage of your PEAK ENERGY TIME, you are wasting time and energy.

ACTION PLAN:

If you’re a morning person, that’s your peak energy time. If it’s afternoons, that’s your peak energy time. Do those activities that require the most concentration during your peak energy time, when you feel most energized. Do low-energy tasks at other times.

Coping Emotionally With Overcoming Addiction

Overcoming addiction, particularly drug addiction (like the one mentioned in the recent HBO documentary Addiction), is perhaps one of the most difficult physical challenges we as humans can surmount. Our body’s dependency on a substance can lead to physical side effects from withdrawal, as our organs become used to life without addiction. The repercussions are multi-dimensional, and can be physical torture. Invariably it’s will power and professional help that’s needed to rectify the situation. But seldom when we think about overcoming addiction do we consider the mental and emotional impact of giving up. Arguably addiction is as much a physical dependency as a mental dependency, and it can be particularly hard to find the mettle to live in the face of addiction.

In order to have the first chance of success in overcoming an addiction (like in the documentary HBO Addiction), the addicted (the patient) must be personally willing to do so. The single most common reason for post-rehabilitation lapses is a lack of appreciation for the end goal. It is absolutely imperative that the patient understands the consequences, and actually wants to give up. Without that personal determination, the best medical and professional drug addiction treatment in the world wouldn’t stand a chance. With this hurdle out the way, its important to make sure the patient understands the process, and never loses sight of the aim. Demonize as far as possible, but understand that drug addiction is a lot more than lack of will. Regardless of the subject of a given drug addiction, the process is the same - gradual and awkward. It is therefore important for healthy recovery to present a balanced appreciation for the patient’s circumstances. Keep them busy, and give them a shoulder to cry on when they need it. Tough love is good, but it’s also essential you provide support and guidance.

If you’re addicted, or you think you might be addicted (to any substance including drug addiction), the first thing you should do is come to terms with the fact that you are indeed physically and mentally reliant on the subject. You need to stop, and put your life into perspective - understand the damage addiction can do, and understand your body’s needs throughout your treatment program. Try to ignore what your body tells you in the early days. for Addiction can cause biological confusion, so don’t worry about cravings. In fact, many recovering addicts find they gain weight rapidly as they try to compensate for their lack of the subject with food and drink. If this applies to you, take comfort in the fact that your health will significantly improve without addiction over time, and remember that your weight gain should level out soon enough. Keep your eye on the ball, and make sure you cry when you feel like it, laugh when you feel like it, and talk when you feel like it. Indulge yourself socially and talk about your problems. Others might get sick of listening, but at the end of the day social, hence mental reassurance is pivotal to a successful drug recovery, even more so than the best of drug abuse recovery programs.

Remortgage Quote - Reduction in the Rate of Interest

When do you need a remortgage quote? It’s needed only when you are in trouble with your present mortgage. You might be facing a bit of troubles in repaying interest of your present mortgage or you might need a remortgage quote to reduce your multiple debts into one single loan amount. And, what all you need is a better remortgage quote which offers you loans at cheaper rates than your current mortgage.

Remortgage means to exchange your current mortgage with a new mortgage to get better benefits form your new mortgage. You can get a remortgage quote form your present lender or you can choose a new one for your remortgage quote. The new remortgage quote lender will pay off the amount of your earlier mortgage and advance the remortgage quote with much lower rate of interest than your previous one.

However, there are various benefits of a remortgage quote. You can reduce your monthly repayment of the mortgage or you can consolidate all your earlier debts through a better remortgage quote. A remortgage quote is always better than having multiple debts in your bulk. It helps you to save your money because in remortgage you will have pay less rate of interest.

People generally take remortgage quote for several purposes. You can opt for it for debt consolidation, lower interest, remodeling your home or car or for anything else on the earth. Also, above all, if you are having bad credit record, hardly anything can better serve your purpose like a remortgage quote. You can enjoy greater flexibility in repayment terms and rate of interest and can easily repair or improve your bad credit record.

And, finding remortgage quote is the best possible online where you will find a lot of lenders engaged in advancing remortgage quote with cheap rates since their presence in large quantity results in tough competition. Also, the online option of remortgage quote is much faster than a manual one for no paper work is involved here. It’s all about clicks of your computer mouse.

Three Smart Ways To Plan Your Day For Higher Productivity

How many hours do you spend at work? Now, how many of those hours are spent on staying focused and productive? If you’re like most busy professionals, an honest assessment will show you spend very little time on bottom-line results.

Numerous reports and studies focus on the rule of 80/20, stemming from the work of Italian economist Vilfredo Pareto. His 80/20 rule, often called the Pareto Principle, is how evolving research has found that, in general, 20 percent of efforts lead to 80 percent of results. (Indeed, many software management reports have discovered an even more disheartening finding of 90/10.)

Imagine the extraordinary results if you can devote dramatically more than 20 percent or even 30 percent (and more!) of your time to staying focused and productive!

A major cause of lost time and productivity is what I call Overwhelm. We are overwhelmed by too many meetings and unanticipated interruptions. We also suffer Self-Imposed Overwhelm that distracts us from our goals. We spend too much time with our cell phones and email. We suffer personal stress. We don’t avoid stress traps.

Here are three keys to planning your day for higher productivity.

KEY ONE: Find Your Peak Energy Time and Use It!

What time of day do you have the most energy? For many people, it’s mornings. I find myself freshest and ready to go in the morning, so I protect my Peak Energy Time by scheduling those hours for my most important work. I block out the time between 8:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. each day for focused work and long-term planning.

Instead of forcing myself into a time frame when I am most resistant to creativity and action, I take control by establishing my own time frame for my most productive hours. My stress levels plummet when I’m in control of my Peak Energy Time, eliminating procrastination, helplessness and the resulting frustrations that can erode focus and productivity. Block out at least two hours during your Peak Energy Time.

-An Early Morning Person? Block out two early hour mornings.

- A Mid-Morning Person? Block out 10:15am - 12:15pm

- An Early Afternoon Person? Block out two early afternoon hours.

- A Mid-Afternoon Person? Block out 2:45pm - 4:30pm.

Regardless of the time of day you schedule as your Peak Energy Time, there are two productivity skills you must use to maximize your results.
1.-Adopt the 100% Responsibility Rule. Recognize that you are responsible for your time. Take pro-active steps to stave off interruptions during this period to maintain control of your time.
2.-Protect your Time Boundary. No one else will protect the boundaries of your scheduled Peak Energy Time. You must be responsible for protecting Your time boundary.
KEY TWO: Make Time for Marketing!
If you skip creating time each day for marketing yourself, your services or your products, you skip out on success. Period. No professional can afford to leave marketing by the wayside. Carve out an hour - better yet, two - during your day for marketing.
Use that time to connect or reconnect with clients, learn, research, expand your reach. You must nurture your own future or miss out on a profitable, productive career and lifestyle!

Here are a few ways to spend this crucial time of your day … for you:

- Call or email clients or prospects. Shine the spotlight on you!

- Create a marketing campaign. Research, write and revise!

- Plan a workshop, a demonstration or a training session - or find out how you can make yourself a part of another event. Maximize your reach!

- Create a news release to send out to the media and to your database. Pick up a phone and call a member of the news media. Make yourself newsworthy!

- Create an online newsletter with interesting articles. Build your audience!

- Start a blog. Blogs are the hot, hip way to maximize the power of the Internet to publicize your name and your ideas, and also to attract wide feedback so important to knowing why and how to best grow your business. Blog away!

- Learn how to use an automated marketing system. This will help you SAVE time in keeping track of and responding to your client and prospect database and buyer purchases, and become the basis for successful marketing campaigns.

I use kickstart.com and recommend you visit www.kickstart.com to learn more about this time-saving, cost-effective automated marketing system. Kickstart.com will save you time and money, and make your profits grow!

- Learn how to capture email contacts. Capture emails of clients and prospective customers from your Web site, blog and e- newsletter by inviting readers to submit their name and email address in exchange for something valuable. For example, offer
FREE access to your newsletters to obtain this information.

- Make time to attend Ruth Klein’s Branding & Productivity Success Boot Camp March 4-5, 2007, in Santa Monica, California. (See Ruth Recommends below).

Learn 25 ways to capture email addresses and build your marketing database, and reap many more benefits. Maximize your marketing know-how and watch your business grow!

KEY THREE: Erase that Self-Imposed Overwhelm!

Learn how to leverage your time to avoid those self-imposed situations that overwhelm your day and distract you from your focus and productivity.

Here are a few ways to minimize distractions and maximize your results:

- Don’t answer your email when you first wake up (unless you’re an emergency worker). Wait until you first start your day with productive planning and vision time. Then answer your email. Take control at the very start of each day! Manage your email traffic. Instead of answering each email with another email, allow several to accumulate before crafting one comprehensive email response. Your answers will be much

- Take control at the very start of each day! Manage your email traffic. Instead of answering each email with another email, allow several to accumulate before crafting one comprehensive email response to your employees, colleague, clients, advertisers, etc.. Your answers will be much more astute, and best yet, it’s infectious! Let others take their cue from you on how to avoid daily email traffic jams.

- Delegate. Either delegate less important work to others or delegate your time to focus on the most important work first. Delegate at home, too!

Get A Grip On Your Business

Not wanting to over-simplify the whole ‘running a business thing’, but I’ve developed a list (based on my own experiences, and that of my clients and other business owners), which covers some of the things we need to know for different stages of building a business:

Start-up phase:

- Start a business because you want to, don’t just fall into it
- Do your homework - know what you’re getting yourself into, and who else is doing it too
- Do what you love - have a passion
- Recognise that it’s going to be tough and be prepared
- Budget for a completely different level of income (!) (that’s a lower income, not a higher one…)
- Talk to people who remember setting up their own business, and learn from their advice.
- Use suppliers who can meet your budget. Don’t be ’sold’ into paying more than you want to - there will be time enough for that when your business is making plenty of money.
- Know where you want to go, and don’t lose sight of that
- Make sure you have plenty of capital to get you through this phase - you’ll need all of it. Keep expenses to a minimum - it will take time to start generating an income.
- Depending on your financial position, join relevant networks and associations, and attend events.
- Make sure they’re the same groups where you will find your target market.
- Draw up a database of all your contacts and spend time getting out there and talking to people. Tell them what you’re doing, and listen to what they need.
- Try to do business with people you want to do business with. This is likely to be amore effective strategy in generating referrals and building your business.
- Don’t neglect the marketing fundamentals: understand what it is you can offer potential clients, understand what they need, develop a very clear value proposition, and know who your competitors are and what makes you different. If you haven’t sorted this out, you aren’t ready.

Up and running:

- Keep the momentum going - keep selling, keep acquiring new business, watch the cash
- Use good financial measurement systems to understand the key drives and key performance indicators of your business. Think of it as a control panel.
- Relationships are critical - pay attention to them (staff, clients, associates, etc.)
- Don’t employ staff until you need them, and provide clear guidelines to those you have.
- Make sure you understand your financial and business reports, and generate them on a regular basis.
- Keep your costs down, even when you don’t need to worry. It’s a good discipline for when you need to pare back, and will keep you in much better financial shape.
- Don’t take you eye off the numbers! Know how your cashflow is tracking.
- Secure yourself some reliable and competent advisors - accountants, financial advisors, a lawyer, a business mentor
- Start to build your knowledge and expertise in areas where you’re not naturally strong (finance, marketing, sales, etc)
- Have goals, know how you’re going to get there, and just do it! Planning without action won’t get you anywhere and you’ll never move forward.
- Sell before you buy - don’t extend yourself before you have the required level of business coming in
- Keep focused on your priorities. Don’t sweat the small stuff but don’t ignore the big stuff. Focus on what will generate revenue (and be profitable).
- Customer retention is important in maintaining stability. If you focus on this now, it will provide a strong foundation for the future.
- Stay healthy - it takes a lot of energy to maintain and build a business.
- Get support - business and emotional support is essential. We all need help in some way.
- Understand the different business models which you could be using, and which are more effective. - — Don’t be scared to re-engineer what and how you deliver to your customers if a new model is more profitable. This is really very important.
- Build you reputation and your image. Be consistent in the process!

Established & Growing

- Implement systems where you can - it helps make the business run more efficiently and makes it less reliant on you
- Focus on the big picture and know what it looks like.
- Have a vision and a strategy to realise it.
- Keep watching the cash.
- Innovate to stay ahead of your competitors
- A good client list and a cash cow product will be the key to you ‘having a life’
- Look seriously at growth strategies and why you want to grow - acquisition, organic or both

Wisdom of experience:

- Finance & funding are critical - know what you need, be prepared, understand your options - always.
- Sales and marketing are critical to success - never stop these activities.
- People management and leadership - start the way you wish to continue
- Systems and process add value to your business - you may want to sell it one day
- Revenue from cash cows frees you up from your business. It’s all tied in with the business model.
- Strategy and execution are a never-ending cycle.

Igniting a Spark

Your Volvo has thousands of parts in it. Some play a crucial role in the car, while others do not. Some are used all the time, while some are needed only for a specific time.

One of the latter is your Volvo’s ignition coil. Also called a spark coil, the ignition coil is an induction coil in the automobile’s ignition system. The Volvo ignition coil transforms a storage battery’s 12 volts into the thousands (which sometimes could reach as high as 120,000 volts) needed to ignite the spark plugs.

Invented by A. Kent Atwater in 1921, the ignition coil is a simple transformer that has two sides: the 12 volt or primary side and the high voltage or secondary side. The primary side contains a few hundred turns of a large diameter wire and it builds up the magnetic field in the coils. On the other hand, the high voltage side contains thousands of turns of small diameter wire. The coil uses “electromagnetic induction” to create the high voltage. When the voltage in the primary side is turned off, the collapsing magnetic field in the secondary side induces a voltage in the secondary side, producing thousands of volts.

In older vehicles, a single, large ignition coil would serve all the spark plugs, distributing voltage via an ignition distributor. In modern systems, the distributor is omitted and ignition is controlled electronically, instead. Much smaller coils are used with one coil for each spark plug or one coil serving two spark plugs (so two coils in a four-cylinder car). These coils may be remote-mounted or they may be placed on top of the spark plug (coil-on-plug or direct injection). Where one coil serves two spark plugs (in two cylinders), it is through the “wasted spark” system.

In this arrangement, the coil generates two sparks per cycle to both the cylinders. The fuel in the cylinder that is nearing the end of its compression stroke is ignited, whereas, the spark in its companion nearing the end of its exhaust stroke has no effect. The wasted spark system is more reliable than a single coil system with a distributor and cheaper than coil-on-plug.

Where the coils are remote mounted, they may all be contained in a single molded block with multiple high-tension terminals. This is commonly called a coil-pack.

Your Volvo ignition coils are part of a larger system, which is the ignition system. The ignition system is part of an even larger engine system. The ignition system’s primary responsibility is the timely burning of the fuel-air mixture in the engine. Your Volvo user’s manual would carry the recommended service interval for your ignition system, including your Volvo ignition coil.

Your Volvo engine might run rough, buck, surge, stall or even get poor fuel economy. These are signs that your ignition system might need servicing as they are potentially an ignition system problem.

When this happens, drive to the nearest Volvo dealership and have a qualified technician take a look around. Your Volvo engine might be in problem in the long run.

Eliminate Six Common Mistakes in Time Management

Do you wish there were more hours in a day to get everything done? Well, isn’t it true that you have the same amount of hours as any other person on this planet? Maybe what you need is not more hours, you just need to learn to manage the hours you already have. Here are six common mistakes that people make, and how you can avoid them.

For some reason, it is common belief that to get more done, you need to work harder. This is totally false. The secret to accomplishing more is not to work harder, but to work smarter. That is why you should always start your day with a plan of action. Every morning write down what you will accomplish that day. Start your day with this plan in mind. Mark through each item as you accomplish it. Do not let anyone derail you from this plan.

Another big mistake is being out of balance in your life. If your financial life is a mess, you can’t focus on your personal life, so therefore your personal life may suffer, which will cause you to be unable to focus at work. Each area of your life influences the other. Do your best to achieve a healthy balance in all areas of your life and your day will flow better with less stress.

Trying to work on a messy desk is another big mistake. Studies show that a person who works on a messy desk spends one and a half hour per day looking for things. Being organized is the key to good time management. Knowing where everything is at can be a great stress reducer. Need to find that important document for your boss in the next five minutes? An organized person, with an organized desk, would have it ready with four and one half minutes to spare.

Not getting enough sleep can mess up your whole day. If you are tired, you can’t work as effectively as you should. Projects will take longer to complete and therefore more time is wasted. Get eight hours of quality sleep a night. The quality of sleep is important. If you are tossing and turning, waking up every hour, you are not getting quality sleep. You may have been in bed for eight hours but you will still be tired.

Not delegating is a huge mistake in managing time. If you have the resources by all means delegate. There are other people out there that can do a job as well as you can. Don’t waste time by trying to do it all yourself.

Not taking a lunch break is another common mistake in managing your time. Sure you may get that extra half hour of work in, but is the work quality work? Could you have done it better and faster if you would have taken the time to eat and recharge your mental batteries? Our minds need a break every now and then. Take a lunch break and relax. You may find that you get a lot more accomplished.

These are the most common mistakes people make in managing their time. Stop making these mistakes and stand out from the crowd.
