If you are a beginning piano student, one of the first things you learn are the major scales. If you know your major scales, then you can easily play major piano chords.

A major piano chord is formed by playing the first, third, and fifth notes of the scale. For example, a D major scale is D-E-F#-G-A-B-C#-D. D, F#, and A are the first third, and fifth notes of the D major scale, so a D major chord consists of D, F#, and A. An F major scale consists of F-G-A-Bb-C-D-E-F. Since F, A, and C are the first, third, and fifth notes, they make up an F major chord.

For those who don’t know the major scales, there is a simple formula that you can use: root + 4 half steps + 3 half steps. A half step is the distance from one note to the very next one. C to C#, E to F, and A to Bb are all examples of half steps. So using this formula, let’s find an Eb major chord. The first note will be an Eb. Go from Eb to E, F, Gb, and finally G. That’s four half steps so G is the second note in the Eb major chord. Now start on G and go up three half steps: Ab, A, Bb. Now we know that Bb is the final note, so an Eb major chord consists of Eb, G, Bb.

Once you know how to play a major chord, finding the minor chord is an easy task. The only difference between the two is the third note; a minor chord has a flatted third note. By now, you have learned that a D major chord consists of D, F#, A. Lower the F# to an F natural and you have a D minor chord.

The minor chord can also be found using a simple formula. The formula is root + 3 half steps + 4 half steps. To find the G minor chord, start on G and go up three half steps: Ab, A, Bb. Therefore, Bb is the second note in the G minor chord. From there you go up four more half steps: B, C, Db, D. Now you know that G, Bb, and D are the notes that make up the G minor chord.

Now you know how easy it is to play major and minor piano chords. If you haven’t already learned your major and minor scales, now is the time to start. They will make your progress as a piano player much easier.

Whether you’re a beginner or an advanced piano player, there is always something new to learn. Stop by Supreme Piano today to receive six days of piano lessons for free.

The evening of the day my hair started to fall out, Christie, Barbara and I were having dinner at one of our favorite restaurants. Naturally, I had to tell them how it all happened.

“Guess what happened this morning?”

“What happened, Deb?” Christie asked, leaning forward in anticipation.

“I reached up to pull some fuzz out of my hair and the whole clump of hair came out. I’m losing my hair!”

“Wow! What did you do?”

“I kept pulling pieces from different places on my head - then I showered and washed my hair to see how much more would come out.”

Christie was fascinated. Barbara was unnaturally quiet.

“You know what would be fun?” I said, “Let’s go back to my house after dinner, sit on the deck, and see if we can make a checkerboard pattern on my head!”

“How can you talk like that!!?” Barbara shouted at us. Our heads whipped around as we looked at her with astonishment.

“She’s losing her hair! That’s terrible!” Barbara was near tears.

“It’s her hair, Barbara,” Christie murmured soothingly. But Barbara was not to be comforted. Barbara was one of those people for whom hair is a very important thing.

I didn’t realize right away that many people would be distraught about losing their hair. I had to learn about it from others.

When I spoke at a conference not long ago about my experiences, for example, one of the women from the audience told me how it was for her. She just shook her head, “I couldn’t bear to lose my hair - it’s who I am - my whole image of me is wrapped up in how I look with my hair!”

I was lucky that way. My image isn’t tied to the way my hair looks. For me, one of the hardest adjustments was not being able to do all the things I was used to doing.

I hated the “nap attacks” and not being able to just get up and go do the things I love to do. I found that my identity was tied up in being a doer. Not doing was hard and having to ask for help was harder, much harder for me than worrying about how my hair looks.

Even so, losing my hair meant something else that many of us with cancer have to deal with. Until we lose our hair, most of us look fairly normal. Losing our hair is the step that firmly sets us apart from the rest of the population.

We’ll always be apart from them. Once you’ve had breast cancer, even if you’re free of symptoms for years, you know that it can always recur. As a friend said to me, “Once you’ve had breast cancer you can’t be sure it won’t come back until you die of something else.”

That’s the shadow that’s always lurking around the corner. It’s also the reality that puts other things, like being bothered by asking for help, or losing your hair, into perspective.

For me the hair issue was easily solved. A few days after that dinner with Christie and Barbara, I decided to shave my head.

First, I went to the beauty parlor and got “buzzed.” Then I went home and borrowed my husband’s shaving cream and razor and shaved the stubble off to be truly “bald.”

I didn’t stay bald, but I did find that I liked short hair. You can see how I looked before and after chemo by visiting one of the photo galleries. And you can see how I look today by checking out the picture on the main page of this site.

Everyone who gets breast cancer has lots of hard things they have to deal with. But for me, checkerboard hair was one of the easy ones.

Methods
The best, safest and most effective method of fasting is juice fasting. Although the old classic form of fasting was a pure water fasting, most of the leading authorities on fasting today agree that juice fasting is far superior to water fast. We can help this cleansing process by drinking alkaline juice instead of water while fasting. Elimination of uric acid and other inorganic acids will be accelerated and sugars in juices will strengthen the heart. Juice fasting is, therefore, the best form of fasting.”

Vitamins, minerals, enzymes and trace elements in fresh, raw vegetable and fruit juices are extremely beneficial in normalising all the body processes. They supply essential elements for the body’s own healing activity and cell regeneration and thus speeding the recovery. All juices should be prepared from fresh fruit immediately before drinking. Canned or frozen juices should not be used.

Benefits

Fasting is highly beneficial in practically all kinds of stomach and intestinal disorders and in serious conditions of the kidneys and liver. It is a miracle cure for eczema and other skin diseases and offers the only hope of permanent cure in many cases.
There are several benefits of Fasting

1. During a long fast, the body feeds upon its reserves.. Being deprived of needed nutrients, particularly of protein and fats, it will burn and digest its own tissues by the process of self-digestion. But it will not do so indiscriminately. The body will first decompose and burn those cells and tissues, which are diseases. Damaged, aged or dead. The essential tissues and vital organs, the glands, the nervous system and the brain are not damaged or digested in fasting. Here lies the secret of the effectiveness of fasting as a curative and remunerative method.

2. During fasting, the building of new and healthy cells is speeded up by the amino acids released from the diseased cells.

3. The capacity of the eliminative organs, that is, lungs, liver, kidneys ad the skin is greatly increased as they are relived of the usual burden of digesting food and eliminating the resultant wastes.

Fasting should, however, not be restored to in every illness. In cases of diabetes, advances stages of tuberculosis and extreme cases of neurasthenia, long fasts will be harmful. In Most cases, of neurasthenia, long fasts will be harmful.
Breaking of fast

The success of the fast depends largely on how it is broken. This is the most significant phase. The main rules for breaking the fast are: do not overeat, eat slowly and chew your food thoroughly: and take several days for the gradual change to the normal diet. If the transition to eating solid foods is carefully planned, there will be no discomfort or damage.

It was early February, 2000 and while everybody else was getting ready for Valentine’s Day, I was getting ready for a full battery of tests, including my first MRI. I was in a bit of a funk.

Earlier in the week, I got the reports from the pelvic ultrasound. The “lesions” they’d seen on the CT scan seemed to be cysts, but they weren’t sure. One ovary was greatly enlarged by this “mass.”

I had done a lot of research on the net and talked to my doctor and I knew this might be more cancer. Breast cancer and ovarian cancer often go hand in hand.

I was devastated. I had been feeling really good about making a great recovery from breast surgery, but now it looked like a hysterectomy might be in my future.

I moped around the house on Tuesday night, all of Wednesday and Wednesday night thinking about maybe having a whole new kind of cancer. I didn’t even get dressed. Finally I found the strength to call the doctor and schedule more tests.

Thursday I was in a much better mood. I’d taken some action and scheduled the tests for Friday. Plus, I was thinking about all my friends who were there for me and praying for me. Life might not be good, but with friends and faith it usually doesn’t stay too bad for too long.

By now I was used to tests so I wasn’t nervous about most of them. They started Friday morning at 7:30, way before I usually even get up. The first test was the MRI. The prospect made me nervous.

I’m just a little bit claustrophobic, and the idea of being stuck inside a really small space was scary. But the staff did everything they could to make me comfortable.

They covered me with a blanket for warmth and gave me ear plugs for the noise they said I would hear. Then they gently pushed me into a narrow tube. The quick look I took showed about 5-6 inches of space between my face and the tube.

I kept my eyes shut most of the time!! One time though, I opened my eyes and found that it was light inside the tube. That helped. Don’t ask me why, but I didn’t really feel closed in.

Then the MRI started: Tap, tap, tap - like a drummer counting cadence on the rim of a snare drum. Then loud discordant sounds: sort of a doo-wop, doo-wop, doo-wop coupled with a low pitched busy signal.

This went on for what seemed like about 10 minutes. Slight pause, tap, tap, tap and different pitches of static like you get on a TV station after it goes off the air. I kept myself amused trying to imagine what tones would be next.

Then I was wheeled out, given a dye injection, and wheeled back in for “three more sets!” By then I was used to it and I got to see some of the pictures. They looked pretty to me, but I would have to wait until the following week for results.

So I set off for the rest of the day’s tests, with one more thing I could check off life’s list. I had my first MRI and survived by listening to the strange music of the tube.

We have all played the game at one time or another. Its trademark green foldaway tables are a staple in garages and basements no matter where you go. Often a party pastime, ping pong games are a great way to relax and have fun among friends; until, that is, there is a dispute about the rules. The truth is that while many of us have played casual games of ping pong, few of us have ever seriously played the game the way it was meant to be played; by the rules, and under its real name, table tennis.

Table tennis is more than a recreational game, it is a serious sport with world wide appeal, particularly in Eastern countries; it is even an Olympic sport! Like any legitimate sport, a true game is played in strict accordance with the official rules. The only problem is that many of us do not know what those rules really are. Here is a brief primer on the rules of table tennis that should allow you to understand and enjoy the game at a new level.

The game starts with one person serving to the other - the determination of who serves first can be made any way the competitors choose, although a coin toss is used in high level competition. There are simple rules that govern the serve. The serving player must toss the ball upward and away from the table - at least six inches high and without spin - and then hit the ball so that it bounces once on his side of the table before clearing the net - without contacting it - and bouncing once on the other side of the table. A ball that hits the net before landing on the opposite side of the table is a let and must be served again without penalty.

Once the ball is successfully served, play continues until a point is scored. A point is scored by an opponent several different ways: allowing the ball to bounce twice on one’s side of the table; not hitting the ball after it bounces on one’s side; hitting a ball that then bounces on one’s own side; not returning a ball hit to you; hitting the ball before it bounces on one’s side; hitting the ball twice; touching the ball with any part of your body other than your paddle hand above the wrist or the paddle; touching the table with your free hand; and failing to make a successful serve. While this list may sound long and confusing, after a few minutes of game play the various scoring scenarios will become readily apparent.

Players alternate serving with each player serving for two points each. A game consists of eleven points, and the player reaching that amount first is awarded the game. The only exception is if players are tied at ten points each, in which case the winner is the first one to attain a two point lead. After each game the players switch sides, and that continues until the match is decided. A match should be awarded to the competitor who wins the greater number of an odd number of games; i.e., best two out of three.

Table tennis is also played in doubles competition where there are two players per side. The rules for doubles are the same with two basic exceptions. When serving one must pay attention to the line that bisects the length of the table. A successful serve is played diagonally from one half of the table to the opposite box on the other side of the table. The second key difference is that teammates must alternate taking shots with neither member of the team striking the ball on consecutive turns. For example, if you serve and your opponent makes a successful return, your teammate must hit that return shot. Failure to do so results in a lost point for your team.

Now that you understand the rules you will be able to enjoy the game on a deeper and more serious level. No longer shall you play ping pong; you will play table tennis, the Olympic sport.

More powerful than any drug, more intoxicating than any alcohol, love can lift us to heights of euphoria that we may never have experienced previously. The blush of first love or the deep comfort and trust of a love that has lasted throughout the years can fill us with happiness and peace and spectacularly color the events around us. Part of what feeds a love - no matter what stage it is in - is true romance; romance that comes from the breadth and depth of our souls.

The definition of true romance differs for everyone; one person’s idea of a romantic evening may be another person’s idea of a nightmare. Infusing romance into a relationship means doing those things that make your partner happy so ultimately, romance requires a level of understanding about each other’s likes and dislikes that will allow you to make choices that will be appreciated.

For instance, a sunset picnic on the beach may be a dream come true for one person; but for someone doesn’t like the beach, it’s just food served on top a blanket of annoying sand. Really listen to each other; get to know what would elicit the best response from your partner - horseback riding, dinner for two in a romantic restaurant, backpacking in wine country, traveling back to a destination that was integral in your relationship, revisiting the place you got married, reenacting your first date - the possibilities are only limited by your imagination.

The real key to true romance, however, is integrating it into your daily life. Romantic overtures that only come once a year - for Valentine’s Day or an anniversary - are lovely, but not ultimately enough to sustain the romance in a relationship. It’s wonderful to make those large gestures with travel, a special evening out, or a beautiful piece of jewelry; but often, it’s even more special to make smaller gestures on a more frequent basis.

When you leave for work in the morning, leave a note on your partner’s pillow or windshield of their car wishing them a good day and telling them you love them; phone during the day to say hi; make a special dinner during the week even if it’s on a Monday and include some of your partner’s favorite foods; set up “date night” - a once or twice a month set date that can not be broken and share some uninterrupted time together. Making romance work means working at it every day.

If you are having trouble in your relationship you may find that true romance will put you back on track. There are a bevy of books on the market today, all designed to help couples find the romance in their relationship again. You’ll find instructional guides on romantic ideas, sensual massage, and communication. Read anything you can get your hands on - together - and make an effort to put some life back in your relationship.

Ultimately, true romance shows that you are listening to each other; when you internalize those things that are important to your partner and then use them to provide a romantic experience then you are showing that what’s important to them is important to you. And that’s the most romantic thing of all.

Women understand the power of scent. And just as they pay an enormous amount of attention to the clothing they choose, the shoes they wear, the hair that they style, and the makeup they don, they will pay just as close attention to the perfume they apply.

Perfume, when chosen to complement your body, will linger for hours as your signature scent. Finding that special perfume that will elevate your style to the next level often takes a bit of research and trial. Most designer and brand name perfumes are available in high-end department stores. But there are also online perfume stores where you can find a variety of products at affordable prices, as well as shop from the comfort of your own home.

Shopping for perfume has always been a popular pastime among women - and the men who buy for them. But what was once exclusive to department stores and discount perfume stores, has now been adopted by online commerce. With the growing popularity of the Internet, the world of retail has changed. Gone are the days of limited choices and exhausting price comparisons.

Now, consumers have the ability - with just a few clicks of their computer mouse - to find the lowest prices on their favorite fragrances. And while the ability to test perfumes is not available through computer shopping, there is the benefit of narrowing down your choices based on price and consumer ratings. And if you are simply re-purchasing a scent you have already used, online outlets can be your best bet for savings and convenience.

Online perfume stores do not discriminate when it comes to their offerings. You can just as easily find high-end designer fragrances as you can find lower priced replications or stand-alone scents at rock bottom prices. And what you pay for in shipping is most often made up for by the discount you receive by shopping in this manner. Some stores even offer free shipping on certain products. What is a coffee table? It depends on whom you ask. While the name implies that a coffee table is made for the express purpose of serving coffee on it, or gathering around it to enjoy a good, stiff cup of coffee, most people use a coffee table for anything but.

Ask ten different people and you’ll get ten different ways in which each of them uses their coffee table. Some people use the coffee table in their living room to put their feet on while they watch television. Others use the coffee table as a decorator accent in a room, often bedecked with flowerpots, floral displays or magazines. Others use the coffee table as an eating table while they watch television. Still others use the coffee table to place study supplies or as a general catchall in the living room. How often to you see an empty coffee table? Not very often. They’re usually either cluttered or spotless, depending on how many children or teenagers live in the household.

A coffee table can be made of anything, really. Glass, wood, plastic, even a piece of plywood balanced on cinderblocks can serve as a coffee table. Children use a coffee table as a toy, sometimes creating a pirate ship or tank with it, while teens convert it to a platform for their game stations. Men use a coffee table to put their feet up when they get home, and women do the same.

A coffee table is an indispensable piece of furniture in most living rooms and dens, but it’s rarely used to serve formal coffee from. Gone are the days of afternoon get-togethers when coffee and biscuits were served, complete with linen tablecloths and silver spoons and fine china. Today, a coffee table is a sturdy piece of furniture designed to withstand the antics of children and adults alike. For many households, the coffee table is the place to store backpacks and textbooks and homework. It’s a place to spread out the newspaper or to complete crossword puzzles. It’s a place to gather around, either on chairs or on the floor.

A coffee table these days can often be the one piece of furniture that a family gathers around on a nightly basis. For that reason alone, a coffee table is a valuable piece of furniture for every family, no matter what it’s made out of.

A coffee table can be made of marble culled from an Italian quarry or pieced together by nails and two-by-fours. It can be made of stone or pressed plywood. But a coffee table is more than a collection of physical materials. A coffee table is the true centerpiece to any living room or den and nearly every homeowner or apartment dweller has one. It serves its function in the household, no matter what that function is. It may be fancy or plain, outrageously expensive or cheap as dirt, but a coffee table is a coffee table and no home is complete without one.

Treating ourselves to massage is one of the many gifts we can give ourselves; and one we fail to give often enough. It has been shown time and time again that massage holds strong physical and emotional healing properties; the likes of which can relieve stress, induce calm, and speed physical healing. But too often, we have neither the time nor the money to treat ourselves to a full body massage. Fortunately for the time-deprived among us, the massage chair has made the power of the healing massage both affordable and accessible.

When people speak of a massage chair they are generally speaking about one of two things: the first is a portable chair that professional massage therapists use to stabilize their clients and provide full access to the back, neck, and head; the other is a vibrating chair that is controlled by the user to provide stimulus to particular areas of the body.

The massage chair used by therapists is generally a collapsible piece that can be folded and taken along with the therapist to different appointments. Such a chair is often used in the workplace where the professional fifteen minute chair massage has become a popular perk to offer stressed out employees in the corporate world. The chair is designed in such a way that the client sits backwards on it. There is a seat on which the client straddles; a face cradle - a donut shaped cushion that allows the user to rest their face inside a cushioned ring; a sternum pad that supports the chest; arm rests, and often a place to rest your legs. With the client in this position, the therapist can access all back muscles, the neck, the head for some cranial work, and arms and shoulders. A chair massage is often a shorter massage than when the therapist utilizes the massage table; but it can be relaxing and rejuvenating nonetheless.

Another form of the massage chair is that which can be found in salons, spa, and even in homes. They are custom built chairs of every material and color that provide vibration - sometimes in conjunction with movement that can simulate the movement of a hand - over different parts of the body. Depending on the scope of the chair that you experience, you can often feel just as energized after leaving this particular chair as you would leaving a professional therapist.

Some chairs only work on the back; these are often used in conjunction with pedicures in spas or salons. The client has the ability to - by adjusting it through the remote control - change temperature, strength of vibration, zone in which the movement is occurring (i.e. lower back, upper back, etc.), and the adjustment of any simulated movement. But there are chairs today that work on the back, while your feet and legs are massaged in the lower portion of the chair. Some of the designs are just incredible. And depending on your budget, and the space availability in your home, they could be a difficult purchase to decline.

A massage chair - in any variety - can offer a quick pick-me-up over the course of a busy day; and in fifteen minutes, turn your world around.
