Estimates say that over 40 million people suffer from sleep problems every year. Without an adequate amount of sleep your health can be affected. For that reason, people spend billions of dollars a year on the latest sleeping medicines trying to solve their insomnia problems only to find out that some of the medicines they take can have some potentially dangerous side effects. This article will review SerenitePlus, an all natural sleep aid that the manufacturers claim does not have these dangerous side effects.

Recently, the Food and Drug Administration released a press release for all popular sleep disorder prescription drugs including Ambien and Lunesta, two of the more popular sleep disorder and most heavily promoted drugs on the market. In it, they requested that all manufactures provide stronger product labels to their products to make consumers aware of the potential risks of taking these drugs.

Some of the more dangerous side effects experienced were having severe allergic reactions, several facial swelling, and sleep driving. With sleep driving, people were actually found driving while being totally asleep. When awoken, they could not remember how they got there. This strange side effect can potentially have a life threatening situation for anyone on the road.

Two other side effects reported by the FDA were making strange, incoherent phone calls at all hours of the night and late night cooking and eating. People would wake up to a dirty kitchen with dirty pots and dishes and open boxes of food all over the place.

The statistics on these side effects may be under reported as people may be embarrassed to report them or may not want to risk a lawsuit for getting caught sleep driving.

SerenitePlus - is it a safer sleep medicine?

There are all natural sleep remedies that work as well or even better than the popular sleep drugs and do not have any strange and risky side effects. Serenite Plus is one of them. The manufacturers claim it has been in use for over 10 years and has been specially formulated to relax you as it allows you to go to sleep and wake up without being groggy or drowsy the next day - all the while giving you a full night’s undisturbed sleep.

Serenite Plus has no side effects and is non addictive so you will not develop a dependence on it to get you to sleep as some medications cause. You can even use it in combination with Ambien or Lunesta. You can then start to wean yourself off of the prescription drugs and rely on the safer option, SerenitePlus.

With the millions or people struggling daily with sleep apnea and insomnia, it is no wonder the major pharmaceutical companies keep coming out with drugs that combat these problems. Unfortunately, these sleep medicines come with some risks. The benefits of sleep aids like Lunesta and Ambien may be outweighed by the potential to become a victim of sleep driving or an allergic reaction. When choosing a sleep aid, you may want to consider one that is safe to take for extended periods, has no side effects and is non-habit forming. You may want to give a natural insomnia remedy like SerenitePlus a try.

Lock Bumping – A New Phenomenon?

The term lock bumping conjures up images of people in stripy jumpers with eye masks on bumping against a locked door on the off chance that it will open and they can fill their bags full of ’swag’. The reality is a lot less glamorous and a lot more worrying.

Lock bumping refers to a method of picking a lock that is effective against pin-tumbler locks. These types of lock are prevalent throughout the world and are used on most North American doors. It involves the procurement of a key blank for the type of lock that you want to open and an amount of work dependant on the type of lock that you have.

It has been shown on popular television that an average person can effect entry into your home using this technique with very little training. It is not a new practice by any means. Lock bumping was first documented over 50 years ago in Germany when Dutch and German locksmiths were experimenting with this technique for legitimate reasons.

The dangers have been brought home to the public by the power of information technology. Lock bumping was picked up by the media in 2003 and a report was commissioned by the lock pickers association in 2004. The information was picked up by the TV companies and then spread through the internet. It has now become a much debated topic.

The reality is that you are far more likely to be burgled because you left the front door or a window open or someone simply broke down your door. The main reason for this is that lock bumping requires the procurement of a blank key that fits your lock and an amount of tapping around the lock on your door with a hammer, something that would not go un-noticed in the most unfriendly neighborhood.

The message has to be don’t panic. Most modern locks have some degree of protection against bumping and Schlage and Medeco locks cannot be bumped. Many locks and keys are patented and this means that the availability of the key blanks is strictly controlled through authorized dealers. Only a rogue employee or a disaffected dealer could cause problems in this area, someone who can easily be traced.

Although statistics show that a large percentage of break-ins have no sign of forced entry the reality is that these probably occurred because a window or door was left open or the homeowner misplaced their keys and could not admit to it for insurance purposes.

If you are concerned that your lock could be susceptible to lock bumping the best thing to do is to ask a professional locksmith for a survey of the locks used at your property. They will be able to tell you if you are at risk from lock bumping techniques and will also be able to recommend new locks that cannot be bumped.

The main thing is not to worry unduly about this supposedly new technique. It has been around for many years and you are not likely to arrive home and find your house full of uninvited teenagers, unless you’ve got one of your own and they’ve invited their friends around for a party.

Ankylosing Spondylitis

Millions of people are suffering with one or another form of arthritis. One such form from the 100 or more types of arthritis known is ankylosing (rigid) spondylitis (spinal inflammation). It mostly affects young people with the average age been just 26.

Symptoms for ankylosing spondylitis most commonly begin between the ages of 15 and 35 and it is very difficult condition to diagnose as progress of the disorder is very slow the first few years. One in every 200 people is inflicted with the condition. Twice as many men than women are diagnosed with the condition and they will experience more severe symptoms.

Back pain and stiffness, pain around tendon areas, eye inflammation (irititis, uveitis) and skin rashes are common symptoms of ankylosing spondylitis. The condition can also affect the heart and lungs, fuse vertebrae in the spine together, trouble the sacroiliac, hip and shoulder joints. Other symptoms are fatigue as a result of inflammation and gastrointestinal problems.

Ankylosing spondylitis is a long lasting health condition (chronic). Pain can persist for more than three months when the condition is worsened. It is frequently accompanied by symptoms of stiffness that are more pronounced at the beginning and the end of a day.

The cause of ankylosing spondylitis is not yet known. Most people with the condition carry a gene called the HLA-B27 gene but, no every one carrying it will develop ankylosing spondylitis.

Your specialist physician (rheumatologist) will begin with a physical examination and look for spinal mobility, sites of inflammation, pain and tenderness in the back, chest, sacrum and heels. He will also ask and take into account your family history of ankylosing spondylitis, He will ask your history of eye inflammations and of gastrointestinal conditions.

Most likely he will next order X-rays and/or MRI for the sacroiliac joint to check for any events of erosion typical of sacroiliatis (inflammation of the joint). Other tests he may order are blood tests such as * ESR (erythrocyte sed rate) - as an indicator of inflammation. * Rheumatoid factor - to eliminate the possibility of rheumatoid arthritis and * Antinuclear antibodies - to eliminate the possibility of lupus.

A common treatment program includes medication - disease modifying anti-rheumatic drugs, physical therapy and exercise - properly trained physical therapists can creating an exercise program suitable for ankylosing spondylitis sufferers, heat and cold packs - to help relax the muscles and in severe circumstances surgery - to replace deformed joints in the neck, hip and knees. Exercise in combination with medication, is usually effective treatment for the management of ankylosing spontylitis.

A number of nontraditional treatments for arthritis are also used by many people that want relief for pain and the other symptoms of arthritis that traditional medications has failed to provided for them. They also hope to avoid side effects associated with long-term medications and certain medical and/or surgical treatments cost too much for many of us to afford. Some evidence does support the use of alternative medication and some patients have benefited from such treatments. Most commonly massage, yoga and chiropractic treatments have been found by many people beneficial in ankylosing spondylitis.

There are SO many details to think about when organizing and planning a party. You’ve got to create the guest list, send out the Save the Dates and invitations, find a great venue for the party, choose a fabulous caterer and maybe even an awesome band. That’s the easy part.

Having a party that both you and your guests will remember for a long, long time means you can’t stop there! Once you’ve got the basic details of your party lined up, it’s time to take it one step further and get creative! And creating memorable, fun and unique party activities can do just that.

Now, I’m not talking about the party games that put you on the spot and make you cringe at the mere mention of them. No, what I’m talking about are party activities that engage your guests in uniquely interactive and fun way without them even knowing they’re being involved! Trust me, it’s great icebreaker fun for even the shyest guests!

Here are 4 interactive party activities that ALL guests at our Company’s Five-Year Anniversary party participated in for a truly unique, memorable and fabulously fun time:

#1 Very Fun Party Activity: Create a Mystery Cocktail

Create a custom cocktail for your guests to try and guess its ingredients! As each guest enters the party, have your catering staff hold trays of the special concoction and greet guests as they enter. You can also set up a special table with glasses of the “mystery” cocktail.

It’s a great way to get everyone in the party mood and at the same time it will get your party guests to immediately begin mingling with each other as they try to figure out what’s in the drink!

Tip: Have at least one “easy” taste in the cocktail for your guests to guess. For example, use something distinctive like pineapple or orange. And if it’s appropriate, rim the glasses with colored sugar or salt to make the presentation even more festive!

#2 Very Fun Party Activity: Take Polaroid Pictures and Give Them as Party Favors

Polaroid pictures are great fun at parties because they are funky, retro and most of all, instant! They capture the fun of the moment and can be given to your guests in a nice picture frame or photo mount as party favors. Assign someone to the Polaroids and have special frames or mounts ready to insert the photo in and voila! Your guests will have an instant personalized souvenir to remember their special moment at your party for years to come!

Tip: These frames or mounts are readily available, but do require some lead-time. So be sure to include an RSVP on your invitation so you know how many to order. Allow yourself plenty of time (especially if you want them personalized) so you don’t pay rush-shipping charges.

#3 Very Fun Party Activity: Create a Polaroid Instant Photo Guest Book

Since you’ve already got the Polaroid camera and film ready to go for your guests’ favors, you might as well just go ahead and take the plunge for yourself and have a Polaroid Instant photo guest book on hand! Instant photo guest books like the Adesso Album Instant Photo Guest Books® will put your guests to work for you to create an instant memento of your party. Now you’ll be able to enjoy your party’s memories the instant the party is over and for many years to come. These photo guest books often become the life of the party, especially after a few custom cocktails!

Tip: Assign someone to go around the party, take Polaroid pictures of guests, slide them into the Adesso Photo Guest Book® and then pass it around to have guests write a personal message to you. It’s less pressure than being videotaped and far more personal.

#4 Fun Party Activity: Philanthropic Party Donation

It’ll make you feel good, and it’ll make your guests feel good. Find something you can “sell” to your guests, and donate 100% of the profits to the charity of your choice. It’s a win-win-win situation for you, your guests and the charity you select. People will really like “sharing” the good time they’re having with others who are less fortunate.

Tip: Make sure that your guests get some value for their contributions. It can be a product offering or something as simple as a gift card, gift certificate or coupon for a popular product or service.

Final Party Activity Tip:

Have cards printed listing your interactive party activities with a checkbox next to them. Provide a way to get the activities checked off as they’re completed during the party. Make sure guests know that if they complete all the activities by the end of the party, they are eligible for a grand prize, even if you don’t have one! You’ll be surprised how competitive your guests can get and how relieved they are to have something to chat about with the person they just met for the first time!

Selling Your Home More Easily and For More Money During a Buyer’s Market

If you must sell your home due to a job transfer or the need to relocate to a new area, there are things you should know to be able to sell your home more easily and for more money in a buyer’s market. First impressions and curb appeal will make your home more desirable to buyers.

  • Stand on the sidewalk in front of your house and see what potential buyers will see when they first drive up. This is called “curb appeal”. Does your home need painting? Just redoing the trim can make a huge difference. Choose colors that are more neutral instead of ones that shout at prospective buyers.
  • How is the landscaping? Planting some brightly colored flowers makes the home look well tended. Trim back any overgrown bushes or trees so that your house can be more easily seen.
  • Put garbage cans and containers out of plain view. They will detract from your homes overall appearance. Research shows that almost 70% of buyers make a decision about a home before they ever step foot on the property. First impressions count.
  • Once the buyers are inside of your home they will be looking it over to see how their furniture and belongings will look. Get rid of excess clutter. Purchase several moving boxes and pack up items that you will not be using during the period of time when you will be moving.
  • Start throwing away and giving away items that you will not be taking with you. If you have lived in your home for any period of time you have most likely accumulated things that you do not need or want. Store these items in the garage until you are able to dispose of them.
  • Arrange for your pets to be out of the way while the buyers are looking through your home. Not everyone is an animal lover and pets can be distracting. This applies to young children as well. If you have enough notice that people are coming to see your home, have your spouse or other responsible adult take the children out for the time during which the prospective buyers will be there.
  • Be aware of odors that could be offensive to others. Things like the smell of fish or a cat litter box can make a buyer subconsciously dislike your home. Use odor reducing sprays throughout the house.
  • Stay out of the way of the buyers while they are looking. If they are with their realtor let them walk freely through the house. Be available to answer any questions they may have without being right on their heels the entire time they are there. They may want to make a comment to one another about a feature in your home and not feel comfortable speaking about ir in front of you.

Stay positive and focused on your goal. Do not take it personally if the buyers only stay a few minutes and then leave. They may have a very specific need that your home does not meet and you may never know what that need was.

One of the first big mistakes Internet marketers make is to try to copy what they think is successful. They hear stories of how popular sites like Digg or MySpace have become and their first thought is to try to copy those ideas without putting any thought into whether those sites are worth copying or not.

Simply because a site receives a lot of traffic doesn’t mean that it’s profitable or that its underlying business model is worth copying. Many sites are successful because they came along at the right time and filled a unique need in the marketplace that just doesn’t exist anymore. Many more sites seem successful, but can’t turn that success into significant income for their owners.

Digg receives tons of traffic but barely breaks even financially. MySpace and Facebook have millions of users but those users are strongly tied to those sites because of their strong brand and because that’s where their friends are. Even if you were to come up with a better version of Digg or MySpace (and many have tried), a critical mass of people have already committed to using those sites and there just aren’t enough unaffiliated people in those markets for your “me too” site to be successful.

The million-dollar home page is another good example. Being first to market with that idea and a great public relations campaign were what made that site successful, not the underlying business model. But, thousands of copycat sites popped up trying to siphon off some of its success without understanding that the business model relied on factors they simply couldn’t duplicate. None of them could hope to capture the media attention of the original and that’s what made it as successful as it was.

While there are certainly ideas in the Internet marketing world that are worth copying, it’s rare to find a successful website that you’ll make money copying. Typically, successful websites become successful due to almost random factors and those factors simply can’t be duplicated by the second or third movers in a market.

For example, while it’s certainly lucrative to run a popular Internet marketing forum, you’ll face a long hard road if you enter that market now with your own copycat Internet marketing forum. The big players are simply too entrenched for your entry to attract many of their users without a compelling reason for those users to defect. Unfortunately, “I want to make money with my forum too” is not a compelling reason.

Your path to success will be much shorter if you break out of the copycat mindset. Big success doesn’t come from trying to imitate someone else’s big success. Imitate their methods, imitate their approach to marketing, and imitate the principles that made them a success, but don’t try to imitate their ideas. Their ideas were successful because of a unique combination of their effective action, their experience, their reputation, and a healthy dose of good timing and good fortune that will be nearly impossible for you to duplicate.

Leaders need passion, how does it work?

I become more fascinated by people and behaviour. Can you think of any outstanding leaders and what it is that sets these people apart?

Some develop in large corporations, through political activity and many other routes. It’s therefore difficult to pin point one feature that is common to all.

There are I think three characteristics that have to be there;

1 Self critical to the point of setting standards for ones self so that others will want to measure up and help. If people know what you stand for they are going to be confident in your company and listen to what you have to say.

2 Natural, so that you are the genuine article. No airs and graces, down to earth, easy but decisive. Again people will know where they stand and know you have courage and confidence.

3 Passionate about what you do. If you think of some of the great leaders, they were/are passionate about their cause. Committed to achieve strategic results and will follow through until achieved.

No matter what you are engaged in, corporate activity, entrepreneurial activities, consulting or your own business in some form you will need passion to achieve success.

Passion, to make your contribution to the corporation.

Passion, to exploit your entrepreneurial instincts.

Passion, to give outstanding service.

Passion, for your product.

I remember early in my corporate career having to take over a department and organise it as a profit centre. It needed re-organising with proper management disciplines introduced. There was lot of resistance to change but one person understood what was needed. He gave total support and we turned the department round.

I was passing through; he was established and took over the running of the now profitable department. He never believed he could do it but went to make an outstanding success; he developed into an effective manager.

Proud as I am of what we achieved together and pleased for him for what he went on to become, he was not what I would describe as a natural leader. If he hadn’t been shown the way he would have continued to accept the status quo.

Perhaps he lacked some of the passion real leaders need.

Does Size Matter In The Bathroom

Bathrooms have steadily increased in size over the last 30 years, and on average today’s bathrooms are twice as large as they wore back in the 70’s

Taking stock of the size of your bathroom is essential before rushing out and picking furniture, tiles and accessories. Most importantly think of the functions your new bathroom will have to perform, that huge walk in steam shower you’ve had your eye on will be no use for your children’s bath time toys! Get everyone’s ideas of how they use the space now and how they would like to use the new bathroom. It might then seem practical to invest more of you budget in a power shower if your family all love showers or splurge on a whirlpool bath if you would like to spend more time relaxing.

To optimise the space in your bathroom if it is a little on the small side look to clever design ideas, such as corner or offset fittings, to fit into otherwise wasted spaces. There is also some great ranges of combination furniture and products available, TC Bathrooms (Traditional Contemporary Bathrooms) have some fantastic shower baths to fit most spaces, as well as a good selection of other co-ordinating furniture.

Other ways to increase the feeling of space is to replace your pedestal sink & toilet with a wall hung sink and toilet, by moving these items from the floor onto the walls creates the illusion of a larger room, even more so when combined with the latest seam free Corain flooring Wall hung towel rails rather than traditional radiators can also be used to utilise wall space and draw the eye up and around the room.

When choosing bathroom furniture look for white and light woods that reflect the light can make the room feel airy. Darker woods are great in larger bathrooms that can loose their cosy feel, darker woods give these rooms more warmth. Whatever bathroom storage you choose make sure you have enough storage for all of the users. There is nothing worse than a windowsill full of shampoos and other bath time essentials! There is some great storage ideas available from all of the main suppliers, they come in all different styles and suit every budget.

The trend towards lending space from a spare bedroom or swapping a bedroom for a bigger bathroom is also growing. Modern living and fast paced lifestyles mean that people are in need of a sanctuary in their home. The bedroom was traditionally this sanctuary but now with a lot more and more people working from home creating bedroom / offices there is a need for another option. The bathroom is now being used as a restful inviting haven, a place you can look forward to starting and ending your day, with invigorating morning showers and long soaks in the bath on an evening. But this haven comes at a cost, and the cost is usually the sacrifice of a bedroom. To accommodate the Wellness Shower and Freestanding bath or the His and Hers Vanity units, we do need a larger space.

Overall size doesn’t matter in the bathroom as long as you optimise clever design ideas and space saving devices. But if you do want something really special and feel you deserve the bath time haven of your dreams you could always forgo a spare bedroom.

It’s not easy being human; it’s a hard row to hoe.

First we have to develop the skills to cope with our own problems, and then we have to deal with the difficulties of other people; our family members; co-workers, and the general community. This is not an easy task; it takes great fortitude to control our emotional selves. How do we approach some of our most complex problems? First, we have to realize a very basic Truth; we are all in this together, bound by our emotions.

This is why Shakespeare will always be relevant. Though we live in an advanced technological age, he is still the king when it comes to exposing our personal and social interactions. He points out our shortcomings as well as our noble deeds; our fall from grace and our redemption. Shakespeare tells us that, yes, it is what it is; life is messy.

–Romeo and Juliet - Teen love is often a disaster. The adolescent brain is under construction and the frontal lobe is not completely developed. Decision-making skills are poor; the tragic deaths of two teenagers, Romeo and Juliet; messy.

–Taming of the Shrew - Male/Female Relationships. The high spirited and intelligent woman can develop a hard edge; the man who knows how to soften this kind of woman brings balance into her life, and both benefit. This is messy, but doable.

–Hamlet - Living a life of revenge often backfires. It’s all negativity and we often hurt innocent people; extremely messy.

–King Lear - Father/Daughter Relationships. Break down in communication; lack of trust; betrayal; broken hearts; really, really messy.

–Macbeth - Blind ambition; violence; murder; loss of morality; a downward spiral that never seems to end; beyond messy.

The list is much longer, but at least you can get a sense of the “drama” that is played out in our lives. Shakespeare captured human behavior in a mirror and showed us a reflection of ourselves, which could be both beautiful and repulsive.

Why read Shakespeare? You can easily find the same information in a psychology journal, a social science lecture, or in any textbook. But there’s a hidden advantage to reading the work of Shakespeare; it lights up your brain.

Shakespearean language excites the mind because it tricks the brain to work backwards. Professor Philip Davis, from the University of Liverpool, states the following about the process of reading Shakespeare, “. . . similar to putting a jigsaw together. If it is easy to see which pieces fit together you become bored of the game; but if the pieces don’t appear to fit, when we know they should, the brain becomes excited. . . .” The reader finds insight into the simplest things, and becomes more self-aware.

Professor Neil Roberts, from the University’s Magnetic Resonance and Image Analysis Research Centre, describes the mental action taking place within the brain when reading Shakespeare, “The effect on the brain is a bit like a magic trick; we know what the trick means but not how it happened. Instead of being confused by this negative sense, the brain is positively excited. . . Shakespeare surprises the brain and catches it off guard in a manner that produces a sudden burst of activity. . . .”

Yes, life is messy. But if we can read through Shakespeare, perhaps we can sharpen our thoughts, and then our lives would be less messy.
