Buying your wedding dress is a major concern. You should choose wisely and in good time. Plan well in advance so that it is not rushed or a last-minute expense. Also, make it your personal project so that you get into the details like a terrier. In this way you will get it sorted more quickly and more successfully.

Don’t forget the power of two or more. You are better off shopping for your wedding dress with a companion or two. Tugging a buddy with you makes this whole shopping ordeal more worthwhile. Also, you get the bonus of having another opinion in choosing your wedding dress. More on, your friend’s opinion is more likely to be more objective than what you have as they probably won’t get overwhelmed by the beauty of your wedding dress that they’d end up disregarding your budget. Also, it feels so much better hearing compliments from another person other than salespeople; more so if they come from your friends.

Try to give a larger piece of the pie for salespeople. To avoid feeling frustrated, it’s always best to let salespeople know a bigger part of the picture. They can’t help you much if your descriptions are so general about your wedding dress. Let them help you better by confiding in them your taste, the designs you have in mind and the particular season you plan to get married. This narrows your search down to just a part of their wedding dress selection. Also, don’t feel afraid about sharing with them the budget you have for your wedding dress. This is so you won’t end up fitting in multifarious wedding dresses which are, in the first place, way beyond your budget. The worse thing than wasting too much of your time is blowing your budget for your wedding dress.

The Hoodia cactus plant extract has recently gained quite a lot of publicity in the media. The BBC and CBS 60 Minutes both sent reporters to investigate Hoodia, and interest in it is growing as a result.

Although there are several kinds of Hoodia plants, the one known for its remarkable ability to suppress the appetite is Hoodia Gordonii. For hundreds of years, this plant has been used by the San Bushmen of Africa’s Kalahari Desert. In this most inhospitable region, where food and water can be extremely scarce, the San people learned that they can go for long periods of time without craving food or water if they first eat a particular plant.

In the 1990s, the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) was doing research on the plants the San Bushmen eat, and they discovered that Hoodia Gordonii not only was non-toxic, but it reduced the desire for food of the animals that tested it.

After more study, researchers discovered that a molecule in Hoodia Gordonii works on the part of the brain that responds to high levels of glucose in the blood that come from having eaten a satisfying meal. Nerve centers in the hypothalamus located in the mid-brain, sense the glucose and tell the body it has had enough food. What Hoodia is believed to contain is a molecule that is thousands of times more active than glucose, so when Hoodia is ingested, the brain is tricked into believing the stomach is full, and the appetite is lowered.

How well does Hoodia work in stopping people from craving to eat? This was demonstrated dramatically in an experiment conducted in the United Kingdom. A group of people diagnosed as morbidly obese were chosen for the test. Half the group was given Hoodia and the other half a placebo (sugar pill). All were allowed to eat as much food as they wanted. In about two weeks, the group using Hoodia were eating an average of 1,000 fewer calories per day than the control group.

People who desire to lose weight are often concerned about whether there are any harmful side effects caused by diet products they may be considering to use. Weight loss products such as Hoodia Gordonii Plus have been found to have no harmful side effects. Of course, people using Hoodia who consume less food should be concerned about getting enough nutrition in their systems. That is why Hoodia Gordonii Plus was formulated to include magnesium, mangosteen oil extract and green tea extract. Magnesium is an essential nutrient the body requires to function in a healthy manner. Mangosteen oil extract, Garcinia Cambogia, contains significant amounts of Vitamin C and may help prevent excess calories from being converted to body fat. Green tea has been associated with not only weight control but also help in treating arthritis, high cholesterol levels and heart disease. It contains the powerful anti-oxidant EGCG.

Hoodia Gordonii Plus users should be cautioned, however, that it should not be used during pregnancy, by children, lactating mothers or anyone who is underweight.

Most companies of any size now have web sites that offer free online jobs listings. In
fact, many companies now use their web site as the primary recruiting method.

As a result, traditional job search methods have been turned upside down by the Internet.
Five years ago, company web sites would have been number four or five in order of
importance. Today, it’s my number one recommendation, as a hiring manager, for finding
job openings at the mid-management level and below.

Why? Simple. For the company, it’s a fast and - most importantly - inexpensive way to
recruit.

The company web site is already up and running, so posting job openings is virtually free
except for the time to input the data. Running newspaper ads, posting openings on the
online job sites, using recruiters, these all cost money. But the company web site is
already there, waiting to be used.

For large companies, the Internet has become the primary method for customers - and
job seekers - to find information about that company. Extending that information to
include job openings is a win-win situation. The company has a virtually free way to
recruit employees, and job seekers have a fast and easy way to find free online job
openings.

Case in point: I recently had two openings for a PC technician in the group I manage. I
told Human Resources to post the job on the company web site before paying to advertise
it elsewhere. In two weeks, we received almost 100 applications and were able to fill both
positions - without advertising elsewhere and without incurring extra costs.

Get the picture? In this instance, not only was the company web site the best way to find
these openings, it was the only way.

This is the approach many hiring managers take today for rank-and-file positions: post it
on the company web site first and then do newspaper advertising or list in the online job
sites if not enough qualified candidates apply.

BEST WAYS TO FIND COMPANY WEB SITES

Here’s my three favorite methods.

Google

If you know the name of the company, simply search on that name in Google. If that
company has a web site, it will be in the first few links displayed.

The problem with this method is that you have to know the names of the companies you
want to search. You can also search on the term “list of XXXX companies in YYYY”,
where XXXX is the type of company and YYYY is the state or city you want. You’ll get
lots of links to lists this way, which means you’ll need to sort through them.

America’s CareerInfoNet Employer Locator

This is a outstanding free resource for finding companies and thus free online jobs. You
can search by industry, occupation, location or keyword. You can find it at:
www.acinet.org/acinet/employerlocator/employerlocator.asp

You can further narrow you search by firm size (as measured by number of employees).
It will give you a list of virtually every company that meets your selection criteria, so you
have to be careful not to define your search too broad or it will return thousands of
companies.

When you click on the link for a company name, it returns a general information page
telling you the company name, key contact, street address, phone number, business
description, primary industry, size of company, and the web address - with link - if there
is one. It even has a link you can click on to get driving directions.

Fantastic!

You can spend hours on this site just browsing through the thousands of companies in the
location you select. The only problem with this site is that it returns too many companies
- even small ones with only a few employees - if you don’t use a fairly narrow job search.
Also, you have to click on the link for each company to see if it has a web site.

Dun and Bradstreet Million Dollar Database

This is probably the best single reference source for finding quality employers.

You can search by company name, industry, location, location status (whether that
location is a branch office or the headquarters), dollar sales, and total number of
employees. Once you get the results, you can sort it by any of these criteria.

Unfortunately, this is not a free service. You have to register at Dun and Bradstreet and
pay for access - and it’s expensive. However, most public libraries subscribe to this
database and many of them will let you access it online from home, so it too can be a
source for free online jobs. It’s the best source for finding quality companies to search for
job openings.

Whatever source you use for finding company web sites, I recommend you make a list of
the companies you find most promising. In fact, set their employment page as a
bookmark (or favorite) in your browser. Search at least weekly for job openings posted on
their web sites.

TIP: You can usually find a link on the main page that says “employment”, “job
opportunities”, “careers” or something similar. But sometimes it’s not so obvious, so if
you don’t see an employment link, click on the “About Us” link. Sometimes the job
openings link is on that page.

Test of time. It is best to plan ahead in choosing your wedding dress. Make sure that you start shopping for it nine months before your wedding day. This not only saves you from the stress of cramming while getting other details straightened out, but also from having to pay lofty fees for your wedding dress. Remember that rush orders usually have higher prices than those done in advance.

Pen it on paper. No matter how long the shopping time is for your wedding dress, you might end up wasting too much money and time if you don’t get everything on paper first. This means choosing right from the very start the designs you really want. Also, part of planning before your search is setting a clear budget for your wedding dress. These are so you won’t end up spending too much time browsing through hundreds of brochures, websites and racks of wedding dresses.

Get geeky. Be like an eager student hungry for knowledge and the task of searching through various resources. Treat your wedding dress search as your biggest project ever. Do your search not only through surfing the web or scanning wedding dresses in actual stores, but also through inquiring from your own connections. Ask friends, friends of your friends, colleagues and acquaintances for help and referrals. This will more likely give you leads to bridal fairs, sales, and other promos. Making the power of leverage work for you effectively will help you find your wedding dress sooner than you think.

How To Put Shyness And Blushing Out Of The Picture

How to put shyness and blushing out of the picture

As a child, when we see something we are not familiar with such as a scary looking dog or a road with cars rushing past, we stare and retract from them.

As an adult, these reactions become less as we experience more. However, we still have this natural instinctive reaction to things we are not too familiar with.

So, when we see someone who blushes excessively or appears extremely shy, we tend to react just as we did as that young child - we stare and retract ourselves.

On the other hand, some people react in different ways such as laughter, criticising or questioning. These alternative reactions can be equally hard for those who suffer from shyness and blushing due to these reactions being the very cause of shyness and blushing in the first place.

Most of us however, take a little time to adjust to something new or less ordinary but, just as the child did, we become accustomed to such things in other people and move on.

So, knowing that by our very nature that others’ reactions and thoughts are only temporary, it becomes easier to accept our initial shyness and blushing behaviours. Once everyone else has moved on after becoming accustomed to your uniqueness, you should also move on with them.

It is impossible to venture throughout this wonderful world if you continue to let a pre-occupation about your skin tone or personality hold you back. All it tales is a little paddle in the big wide world to make many people realize that life is not so much about themselves but about others. If we all became so obsessed with ourselves the world would be a boring place.

Furthermore, it is vital to understand that friendships and respect are gained not from imposing yourself onto others, but from listening, helping and involving yourself in others instead. People are instinctively attracted to others who show interest and provide benefits and help in their own lives.

So you must look outward in order to feel better inward. Once you move the focus of your personal problems to that of helping others with theirs, you will soon notice how the shyness and blushing just fades away like an old painting.

Writing A Murder Mystery - Part 1 - Characters

Crime fiction in general and murder mystery in particular is a popular staple of bookshops, theatre and television drama, and is a genre often tackled by new writers. This article is written from the standpoint of someone who writes mysteries for theatre performance, but the lessons and techniques can be applied to any media.

However you wish to present your mystery, there are at least three vital elements to a ripping mystery: characters and plot. So often the budding writer gets so bogged down in developing a complex web of intrigue that the all important element of character development is missed entirely and consequently we hardly care what happens to them.

I strongly advise that a murder mystery, in what ever form, should start with the development of characters who fit closely into the environment you have chosen for your story. Plot will come later, and actually flow from the characters you have created.

So, let’s begin with the environment. Murder mysteries set in a 1930s English mansion have been done, pardon the pun, to death, but there are reasons for their popularity. For starters, this setting instantly gives the writer a set of stock characters with whom the reader/watcher will already be partly familiar. Secondly the confined setting often means that the list of suspects is immediately obvious. I’m certainly not advocating that you avoid such a setting, but there are hundreds of other situations which can give rise to a similar set of conditions. Consider, for example, a submarine, an office party, a medieval banquet, an Antarctic expedition, a spaceship, a cruise ship, a town council meeting - the list can go on and on.

Once you’ve picked your place you can easily begin to think of a series of characters. Let’s concentrate on the submarine for now to get an idea of how this might work. We obviously need a captain, and let’s add a couple of officers and ratings for good measure. We shall want to make the trip a little interesting along the way, so let’s throw in a mysterious passenger and his beautiful wife. We don’t even need to name our gallant crew at the moment - but we can begin to sketch in the characteristics that can point the way to an interesting plot.

So then, our captain. He needs a bit of backstroke. Let’s make him a gruff old sea-dog who demands high standards and is nearing retirement. He has a fear of water developed after his wife drowned in a pleasure boat accident. We can go on this way with all of our major players, and then the interesting part starts - working out their relationship with other characters.

I usually do this by drawing a bubble diagram and connecting each character to each of the others with an arrow describing their relationship. For example:
Captain ———–> blames for death of his wife ———-> Officer 1
Captain ———–> was once engaged to ——————-> Beautiful wife
Eventually we have a web of interconnections that begin to suggest a framework for a story.
Some of these interconnections may fall by the wayside or be changed as we progress, but it’s a good start.

Now go back to your characters and assign them names. If you are planning a comical story these names could suggest their characteristics (eg Captain Stable), or you may want something more sombre. Add a few more notes on their character then you are ready to begin on part 2 - the plot…

Weddings - The Best Man’s Speech

In wedding speeches, the center stage is on the best man who must speak with humor and interest. He must not be very loquacious and go on a minute-by-minute account of the life of the groom and steal from the couple the attention of the audience. It is the best man’s duty to respond to this toast on behalf of the bridesmaids. His speech should be light hearted and fun. The best man delivers the speech that gains most interest at a wedding, It is a burdensome task and one which will need careful planning and preparation to carry out successfully.

The best man is an advocate of the groom. It is essential that the speech be suitably delivered so as to not cause either embarrassment or offense. A lot rides on the task. One must not, of course, be too boring but neither must one take over with verbosity or boisterousness.

Be sensitive to the relationship between the best and and the groom. Remember the times that you have spent together and, perhaps, the reason why the groom picked you for this delicate task. There must be some form of bond and relationship between you otherwise the groom would not have selected you. Read widely and gather sample;e speeches. Think about what you are going to say well in advance and write it down. Rehearse it over and over. Have crib sheets or cars to prompt you during the speech itself (this prevents drying up). Remember that rehearsal may make the speech boring for you but, if done correctly, the audience will be impressed by the delivery which, don’t forget, they will be hearing for the first time.

It is an honor to be chosen as best man at any wedding. Make the groom proud that he has chosen you.

No Bull

Gertchrude, my old milk cow was a dear soul and dependable as they come, still she was no Bull and neither is what I am about to say!

As I have transitioned my Inspection Business to Upper Michigan, I keep running into one specific problem that befuddles me. I suppose I should tell you first that in my Market, many listed homes are vacant. Sometimes the owners live out of state, sometimes there is a death in the family and often, people leave the area for career pursuits (usually returning at some point). in any case, Imagine meeting a client at a property to begin an Inspection only to find that the water, Gas or Electricity have been shut off. This brings up an interesting question…several actually. You might first ask, why didn’t the Inspector know the Utilities were shut off? More on that later. The next logical question might be: So the water is shut off, what’s the big deal, just turn it on…right? The short answer is: wrong, wrong, wrong! Lets say, for example that I do turn on the main water valve as it comes into the home. I begin by inspecting the plumbing, not difficult as I soon learn several pipes have burst (home was not winterized) and there’s a hole the size of Niagara Falls underneath the water heater. So, just quickly shut off the water. Not so fast, it seems the shut off valve which has been around since Moby Dick was a minnow, doesn’t…yep, you guessed it, want to shut off! The Listing Agent is unavailable and the municipal water might be able to get out later that afternoon. Now, luckily for me, that scenario has not happened, but less dramatic things have. Once I make the decision to turn on any component or utility during an inspection, I have not only just assumed responsibility for damages, I have also potentially peeved a whole bunch of people if there is a problem that can’t be immediately fixed.

So, I could have just written up the report without inspecting the plumbing. Sure I could have. But doing so would not be fair to the client who paid and trusted me to provide a complete inspection. One month later when this client closes on the home and finds the water heater leaking, or it raining in the dining room from the hall bath above, this buyer will be hopping mad, and ultimately, it won’t be me this client addresses his/her anger toward.

Yes, yes, but you say, why didn’t you just wait until the Utilities were all turned on? Well, now here is where we truly get to the nut of this problem. You see, in my market, when a purchase agreement is drawn up, sometimes the Realtors don’t address the issue (within the purchase agreement) of who is responsible for turning on and off ulilities prior to closing. This can cause a great deal of confusion and buck passing, and I for one, don’t wish to be caught in the middle. Further, as a generalized truth, I find that some Realtors (Listing Agents) are giving the buyer 10 days to have the Inspection completed and then not immediately working toward getting all the Utilities turned on knowing they are not. It has happened (to me) more than once lately that the water or electricy was still turned off at the time the inspection contigency expired.

The only thing I can think of is to try to provide some guidance and experience on this issue to Realtors in my area. They need to understand that a Home Inspection Contigency, is just that, a “Contigency”. Failure to allow the buyer a complete inspection within the agreed upon time frame voids..or makes voidable, the purchase agreement. If the Utilities are shut off and the Listing Agent knows this, and the listing agent also knows the home has not been winterized, it seems reasonable to assume that they may need more than 10 days to fix any forseable problems (i.e. leaks in water and NG pipes, servicing the furnace or boiler, making sure the electricity is safely turned on). These are not my repsonsibilities.

I do also understand that in Michigan, there are no state standards or competency requirements for Home Inspectors…yet (more on that in another post). Personally, I adhere to ASHI standards. How do I know those standards? Well, I have been licensed in Wisconsin for nearly 9 years now. I also engage in a minimum of 40 hours up to 200 hours of Home Inspector Training classes and seminars each year. I know what Michigan Inspectors should be doing, but with no standardized guidelines, there is little consistency and perhaps some Realtors are misinformed in general about the scope the Home Inspection should encompass.

And how is your weekend going?

What if I told you that you, unknowingly, are poisoning your child on a daily basis?

This is to all you mothers out there. Stop whatever it is you are doing, sit down and read this article from A to Z.

It is amazing the things we have been taught and led to do and trust. We believe that there are laws governing just about everything and anything out there.

Well, there isn’t!

-Is your child hyper-allergic and lives on Benadryl or Claritine?
-Does your child suffer from asthma attacks and cannot go anywhere without his/her puffer in case something triggers it?
-Do you have a child who was born with a neural tube or congenital defect? If not, do you fear it might happen?
-Has your child been diagnosed with ADD/ADHD?
-Are you at all alerted by the increasing cancer rates in children and adolescence?
-Do you know that the number 1 cause of death in children less than 5 yrs old is accidental ingestion of common household toxins?
-Are you currently pregnant?
-Do you know that less than 2 % of all new and existing chemicals have been tested sufficiently to allow a complete health hazard assessment?

Ask yourself this question;
Where do I go to get my daily household products? If your answer included words like the grocery store or a convenience store then read along or regret not doing so 10 + years down the road from now.

The average house has an estimated 3 - 10 gallons of hazardous material. Do you live in one of those average homes? Want to take guess where most of us keep these poisons? Under the kitchen sink within easy grasp of anyone under 3 feet tall. (Including pets)

Some products contain ingredients that have not been officially recognized by the government as hazardous but still are cause for concern. “Inert” ingredients are chemicals added as “carriers” for the active ingredients in cleaners and pesticides.
Pesticide companies keep their inert ingredients secret to be competitive in the market. This information is considered a trade secret.

When was the last time you read and fully understood the labels on the back of any of your house hold products? Want me to take a guess for you? How about never?

Labels tell you about the chemicals immediate effects only. You are not given information about “chronic” or long-term effects of chemical products, such as relationship or causation of cancer and/or birth and reproductive defects. Also, many labels do not tell you how to dispose of a product safely. Antidotes listed on the label may be incomplete, out-of-date, or even wrong. In addition to all of the above there remains to be no standardized list of chemical names.
Here is a miniscule list of what you are exposing your family to on a DAILY BASIS:

1- Air fresheners and Deodorizers : Formaldehyde (Toxic, carcinogen irritant to eyes, skin and airway)
2- Bleach: Sodium Hypochlorite (Corrosive, burns skin, eyes and respiratory tract, Can cause pulmonary edema, coma and vomiting when ingested)
3- Floor cleaners/wax: Diethylene Glycol (Toxic, causes central nervous system depression, liver and kidney lesions)
4- Window cleaner: Diethylene glycol, Ammonia ( vapor causes chronic irritation to eyes, skin and respiratory tract)
5- Laundry detergent: cationic, anionic or non ionic solutions (if swallowed cause nausea, vomiting and convulsions and coma. Also irritate eyes and skin).
6- Dishwashing detergents: cationic, anionic solutions and phosphates ( irritation to skin, mouth and gastrointestinal tract)
7- THE LIST GOES ON AND IT GETS WORSE.

Now, do you think it is worth 30 minutes of your day to learn of a cost effective way to switch products and stores to better your family’s life?
