The most common type of cancer diagnosed in men is prostate cancer. The prostate is walnut-sized gland found only in men. According to the American Cancer Society, about 218,890 new cases are expected to be diagnosed in 2007 and about 27,050 men will die of prostate cancer. But the death rate is decreasing, perhaps in part because of early diagnosis.

In the early stages a patient may not exhibit any symptoms. However, after it is advanced, the patient may experience:

* Frequent urination
* A weak flow of urine
* Burning urination
* Painful ejaculation
* Blood in the urine semen.

A common test to detect prostate cancer requires a doctor to test the amount of prostate-specific antigen in the blood. A digital rectal exam will tell a doctor if there are bumps in the prostate that may be cancerous.

It is recommended the men 50 and older should be screened yearly with both the digital rectal exam and blood testing. The American Cancer Society recommends that men at high risk be tested beginning at age 45. African Americans and those who have a close relative who was diagnosed before age 65 are considered to be at high risk.

Other risk factors for prostate cancer are:

* Age. According to the American Cancer Society, about two out of every three prostate cancer patients are men over 65.
* Diet. Diets high in red meat or high-fat dairy products seem to increase the risk. As with all cancers, diets that include low-fat meat and dairy produces and five or more servings of fruits and vegetables seem to decrease the risk.

Prostate cancer usually grows slowly so early diagnosis can save lives. Because it usually grows so slowly, many elderly men who have died were found to have had the disease and were not aware of it. Because of this, many doctors treat it by not treating it at all. This is called expectant management or watchful waiting. This may be recommended if it is not causing any symptoms and has not spread

Prostate cancer patients are often treated with traditional therapies such as radiation. Surgery may be recommended. Hormone therapy, where patients are given medications to reduce the number of male hormones in the body, has been recommended for some patients.

Treatments vary from patient. Factors in determining treatment include age, the stage of the cancer and the patient’s overall health.

If when the prostate cancer is found it is confined to the prostate or has only spread to nearby areas, the five-year survival rate is nearly 100 percent, according to the American Cancer Society. If it has spread, the 5-year survival rate is about 33 percent. About ten percent of all related deaths in men are from prostate cancer.

Don’t Take Bipolar Depression Lightly

While the manic phase of Bipolar Disorder is perhaps the most disturbing to those around the sufferer, it is actually the depressive phase of this disorder that is most dangerous to sufferers. During these phases, bleak emotions can even cause some people to become suicidal.

In order to help someone suffering from a depressive episode, it is important to recognize the signs that some suffering a phase of depression may be considering suicide. Along with knowing the signs of suicidal behavior, you should also know who to contact to help this person.

As stated earlier, it is important to recognize the signs that someone may be contemplating suicide. Signs of a depressive episode include an enduring sad or empty mood, fatigue, changes in appetite and sleep, and a lack of motivation as well as feelings of guilt, anger and anxiety.

While these symptoms are uncomfortable for the sufferer, they are not necessarily dangerous. It is when these dark feelings brought on by Bipolar Depression give birth to thoughts of suicide they become dangerous.

Signs that someone is suffering or may be contemplating suicide include obvious signals such as the person talking about suicide or wanting to die.

Other signs perhaps known only to the person suffering from the depression include feeling as if they are a burden to family or friends, feeling as if their circumstances will never change or improve, or feeling that nothing they do is of any importance or makes a difference. The person contemplating suicide may turn to alcohol or drugs to help numb their emotional distress.

Another sign the person may be thinking about killing themselves include purposefully putting themselves in situations where they might be killed. Finally, the person may also put their affairs in order, as if they were preparing to die, or write suicide notes about their intentions and their feelings of emptiness.

If you suspect someone you know is considering suicide as the result of a bout of Bipolar Depression, there are some steps you can take to help stop the attempt. If you need immediate help, call the police, 911, or take the person to the nearest emergency room.

Be prepared to tell these people exactly what the problem is, what disorder the person suffers from and what, if any, medications they may be taking. You should also make sure the suicidal person is not left alone. Perhaps most important, be sure the person does not have access to any weapons or large amounts of medications.

Some people take the time to plan their suicide attempt carefully while some may think up their attempt on the spur of the moment. Either way, no suicide attempt should be taken lightly. With proper treatment and medication, the feelings of worthlessness and emptiness that come along can be relieved.

If you are on a doctor prescribed treatment regimen, stay on it. If not, your doctor and therapist can get you started on a plan that will help your life look more promising.

Efficient Market Hypothesis - Can You Beat The Market?

The Efficient Market Hypothesis, or EMH, is a concept developed by Eugene Fama, which asserts that the prices of financial instruments, reflect all known information about the future values and beliefs of the investors about those particular financial instruments. This means that you, the investor, cannot outperform the market in the long run.

Here is a quick example: Suppose you watch the evening news, and there is a report of how High-Tech companies are getting more popular. You think to yourself it will be a good investment, and you decide to buy stocks of High-Tech companies. Will you outperform everybody? probably not. What knowledge you have about the stock market is available to each and every individual. This means that you are not the only one that noticed that High-Tech companies are getting more popular and hence, these beliefs are already reflected in the price!

This may mean the price is higher if it were not for that particular belief. Please note that this does not mean that every idea and notion you may have about the market is already reflected in the price. You could predict something that nobody even considered, but that would be luck! You could also think you know how a particular sector or stock would perform and not get it right. This is what happens most of the time. Thus, in the long run, the prices of the financial instrument already reflect the consensus of beliefs about the particular stock/bond/etc and it’s future performance.

The EMH is usually divided into three categories: The first is called the Weak Form Efficiency. This means that you cannot outperform the market in the long run by using historical prices. This includes Technical Analysis and other statistical methods. For example, You may analyze past prices and see that on a Monday, stocks usually rise by 2%. You think you have a good shot at making some money out of it. The problem is that everybody has access to past prices and everybody would try to make money that way and hence the price would already reflect the use of those tools. This may be debatable and some have showed that there are statistical anomalies that have existed over a long period of time (although most have faded away by now).

The second category is the Semi-Strong Efficiency. This means that the prices reflect all known information and news about it, which means that fundamental analysis cannot help you in analyzing the value of the stock because yet again, everybody has access to the news and information.

The last category is, of course, the Strong Efficiency, which means that the prices reflect ALL information and no one can earn excess return. Of course, that would have to take into account, the legal issues of insider trading. For those who do not know, insider trading means that someone INSIDE the company, that has knowledge that the public does not know yet (such as a big merge), uses it for personal gains. If insider trading is not legal, than you could, and people had, outperform the market. Insider trading is very lucrative and that is why each year you can read the news about someone being accused of it.

You could argue and say that you know several stars and hedge funds that outperform the market but do realize this: there are more that fail and the percentage that is consistently outperforming is VERY small. So small in fact, that this be may attributed to sheer luck.

So how efficient are the markets? The bigger the market the more efficient it is usually as more and more people try to use information to help them gain money and outperform it.

Internet Marketing - It is Important to Have Your Own Web Site

If you are going to get involved in internet marketing it would behoove you to have a web site. Not too long ago it was a major undertaking to have a web site, unless you didn’t care about cost or were knowledgeable about html. Today it is much easier.

The reason you need a web site is because every phase of your internet business is launched from your web pages. If you start with affiliate marketing, you will need a web page to promote these affiliates.

If you write articles, you will want to link them to a web site landing page for your readers to visit. You will need a site for other tools you use to make your business successful. This can include auto responders, pay per click advertising, forums, etc.

Something you might want to think about, is start by getting a free website. There are lots of them out there. If you’re wondering why they’re free it’s because you’re required to promote their advertising . If you are using this as a beginning web site to learn your way around, than pushing their adverts is no big deal. It becomes a quid pro quo.

Once you feel comfortable, you might want to upgrade to a point and click web site host that charges for their services. No need to get upset about price. You can join a hosting site for as little as $5.95 a month, that generally includes a free domain name. Usually you have to sign up for a certain period of time to get that price. You will find these pay for websites a little more sophisticated, but like the free ones it won’t take you long to figure it out.

It is not necessary to know html with the newer versions of point and click web sites. They all have what they call a site builder or some similar name. This generally has all the tools you need to build your site.

To learn more about internet marketing and many other skills necessary for a profitable
internet business, click here: http://www.theaffableaffiliate.com/ You’ll receive an ebook, “15 Steps to Internet Success,” and a series of lessons about topics much like this one. Trust me, you will learn a lot, no matter how long you have been marketing. Just do it!

Have you reached a point in your life where you know you have to do something to increase your retirement income or you want to find a way to increase your spending cash This article will provide the necessary background to help you find profitable investment properties. Armed with your property investment objectives, it is time to go out and find profitable properties..

However, before you start your search you need to remember that we will be looking for investment properties where we can make a profit from motivated sellers. If the seller is not motivated, you will not be able to negotiate a good deal. I will repeat it again, you make the profit when you buy not when you sell. The road begins by developing a list of potential properties using the profile that you developed during your objectives session - see previous article “How to succeed in Property Investing”. There are several sources of properties:

Real Estate Agents. You will get better results if you take the time to interview several Real Estate professionals and ask them if they own any investment property themselves. If you are able to locate one of this professionals in your area, hold on to them. They will understand your needs and they will be invaluable helping achieve your objectives. Real estate agents can be an excellent source of undervalued investment properties. After they get to know you, they will search you every time that a good property hits their desk. They can also help you determine the market value of the potential property. Your Agent can provide you with a list of all the investment properties that meet your requirements.

Foreclosures Lists: This is my favorite way of finding investment properties. The main reasons for foreclosures are missed payments due to job interruptions, divorce, and health problems. The easiest way to get a hold of this list is to perform an internet search in any of the main search engines for the words ‘foreclosure list”. The monthly subscription price varies from $28 to $35. This money is well spent. I have found very nice investment properties using this method. For instance in 2003, I found a 4 year old house with 3 bedrooms and 2 baths in a nice neighborhood. I knew that this was a good deal because the bank was asking for $87,000 and the original sales price was $105,000 two years before. In addition, the tax assessor had valued this property for $106,000. You are able to obtain all this information without leaving your house. The internet is a wonderful tool to get information. After looking at the house, I decided that this was an excellent deal. The Real Estate Agent almost fell off his chair after he saw my initial offer of $69,000. After more negotiations, I ended up buying the investment property for $72,000. The current assessed value is $115,000.

In order to use this method, you need to take the following steps:

- Review the daily foreclosure list for your area

- Select the properties that have been on the list for less than 30 days

- Circle the investment properties that fit your budget.

- Pay special attention to the properties that are located in nice neighborhoods. They are the first ones to go.

- Only select properties that are within 50 miles from your home.

- Use the internet and access the local tax records and obtain the house tax value.

- Use the internet to access zillow.com. This site will give you another clue as to the value of the property.

- Ask your Real Estate Agent to show you your potential investment property .

- If this is your first investment property, you might want to take a general contractor with you or some one who knows about repairs. They will advice you if the property has any major issues.

- After you have gone through all these steps, you should be ready to make an offer. This is one of the best steps if you enjoy negotiating. This will be the topic for my next article.

Other methods for finding investment properties that I have used less frequently include: local newspapers, real estate magazines, driving around, government websites, fliers, talk to the local chamber of commerce. It takes a bit or work to recognize a profitable deal. However, this article has moved you miles ahead of your competition. This is the second article in the series ‘How to succeed in property investing”.

Life is Now Exponential in Size and Travels at Warp Speed

Recently I received a PowerPoint presentation that questioned what we know as individuals. This was quite powerful because one of the tools that I use with my business coaching clients is the Law of Process that explains what we do not know or our incompetencies.

Have you ever heard that you are “one in a million?” Maybe your husband or significant other said that to you or maybe you said that to your child. Today that means there are another 1,300 people just like you if you lived in China.

During the course of one minute to read this short article, 7 babies will be born in the United States, 30 babies will be born in China and 44 babies will be born in India. Now multiply that by 1440 minutes and the world’s population for just 3 countries will increase by 117,360 individuals in just one day.

We all know that the world is changing at incredible rates. The change we experience in one year exceeds the change that our grandparents experienced in their entire lifetimes.

Young people today according to the U.S. Department of Labor will have 10-14 jobs by the age of 38. And what is even more incredible is that the anticipated top jobs in 2010 did not exist in 2004. What this means is that we are attempting to prepare young people for jobs that do not even exist and we are still using an 19th century agrian school model to create 21st century jobs. Not to mention that these future jobs are trying to solve problems that are unknown as well.

Did you know that 3,000 books are being published each and every day? Imagine over 500 years ago and how long it took to print just one book on the Gutenberg press?

Life has reached exponential proportions where size does matter. However, do not forget that even the largest of the large can be brought down with the smallest of the small. And that my friends is what we all must remember as we enter this new era of incredible size and enormous speed.

Did You Know that 90% of Serotonin Levels Come from the Colon?

Did you know the acronym for the standard American diet is SAD?

It is a fitting acronym since our American diet is in a SAD state of affairs. With the rise of obesity, diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, ulcers and depression not only in adults but now in our children one can look to our diets as a big part of the problem.

Stress is always an easy thing for our society to come by. We have all experienced it in our lives and now so have our children. There is never enough “time” to do all of what we create as our “life-expectations.” We go to work, take care of the kids, drive them to school, their practices & games, do the cleaning, go grocery shopping, or work long hours enduring the “crises” around us.

We create our stresses to a degree and let them internalize into negative feelings or emotions, which eventually lead to physical manifestations of disease and/or depression.

Not only do we NOT make enough time for ourselves but we continually spiral down a path of poor eating habits.

Why not? Who has time to make dinner? It is just easier to get a pizza or go to Mc D’s, right?

Of course it is also easier to pop a pill to make it “go away.” Unfortunately, taking prescription medication over long periods of time can lead to liver, kidney or heart damage. For some people it is an absolute necessity in order for them to function, however what they do not know is that by changing the way they eat, they will actually improve their depression by improving their serotonin levels.

Serotonin is a neurotransmitter that helps the brain with necessary chemical reactions & functions, which help in maintaining a balanced state.

Most people have heard how exercise boosts their endorphin levels, which are “feel good” neurotransmitters but never learn how to boost their serotonin levels.

Since the standard American diet (SAD) is full of processed, refined chemicals, sugars, hormones & antibiotics the average person is walking around with an inflamed colon and does not even know it.

Eventually they need to be treated for IBS (irritable bowel syndrome), Gerd (gastro-esophageal reflux disease), hiatal hernias or ulcers–and again turn to medication.

What most people do not know is that these are just symptoms of a bigger problem.
The problem is the inflammation of the gut that has been produced by poor dietary habits, a diet full of processed foods loaded with trans-fatty acids, refined sugars, hydrogenated oils, hormones and/or antibiotics.

Many people are too acidic in their guts. This means their ph balance, which is important for normal GI function to occur, become out of balance. This can lead to an overproduction of yeast or candida or a destruction of healthy bacteria, which in turn leads to an increase in fluid and inflammation. Many people are not just overweight from excess fat. Many could be carrying excess fluid in their guts, which may be the result of inflammation from irritated tissues and toxins that have spilled, leaked or backed-up from their large to their small intestines.

Since the majority of serotonin is produced in the colon, does it not make sense to treat the cause? If you could change what you put into your body and reduce the fluid and inflammation, restore the healthy bacteria and gut function to a more balanced state and boost your serotonin levels, do you think you would feel better?

Credit has become a way of life for many people in the UK. Secured loans, unsecured loans, credit cards and store cards are commonplace and the amount of credit that exists, may be at different rates of interest. Some of these loans may be subject to comparatively high interest rates. It is understandable then, why so many decide to consolidate this credit into one more manageable monthly repayment.

Only One Repayment, And Cheaper Too!

Rather than have several cheques to write or direct debits to set up, many people decide to consolidate their debt into one loan which means only one payment to organise. But the advantages of having only one loan don’t stop there. Had you thought that by consolidating your debt, you may be able to pay off your exisiting credit that incurs comparatively high interest charges into one where you pay a lower interest rate? You may also decide to pay this new loan off over a longer period, which means that your monthly repayment will be lower than with your existing credit agreements. You must remember however, that this may mean that you end up paying more interest over the longer term than at present, but for now at least, it could make it easier to meet your repayments each month.

What? No More Telephone Calls And Letters?

If you have lots of creditors chasing you for their repayments, a debt consolidation loan could solve these temporary problems for you. By taking out a debt consolidation loan, you can use the finance to pay off the existing creditors and earn yourself some breathing space. No more harrassing calls, chasing their money!

Many people opt to organise a debt consolidation loan by releasing some of the equity in their home. Effectively, they are taking out a secured loan which as is suggested by the name, in the event of a default, the lender could enforce the repossession of the property in order to get hold of their money. You should always think hard about whether you could afford the repayments but in real terms, isn’t this what you wanted the debt consolidation loan for in the first place?

By taking out a debt consolidation loan, you could enable the lender to secure the new loan against the value of your property, and by so doing, the loan may attract a lower interest rate than you may have done with an unsecured loan. This of course, only applies if you are a homeowner and have enough available equity in your home. For tenants, there may be different options where you could still have a debt consolidation loan but by taking out an unsecured loan instead.

Debt consolidation loans are relatively easy to apply for these days. There are also many lenders and finance brokers in the UK that offer this type of facility. You could make an online enquiry in seconds and potentially have an offer within minutes. Of course, you will still need to complete and sign a credit agreement and your chosen lender may require proof of ownership of your property, proof of citizenship etc and they may also need to request an independent valuation so the whole application process may still typically take between 4-8 weeks.
Always make sure that you read and understand the terms however, and make sure that your new loan is as affordable as you need.

Divorce to Remarriage - Parental Dating Advisory - Rated G for “GROSS”

Dating after divorce is a natural process for you. It may take awhile to get there, but most of us eventually would like to be in another relationship. Your dating is NOT natural to your kids. For teenagers, thinking about their parents having a boyfriend or girlfriend will probably elicit something like “Ooh, gross!” And for younger children, it just seems wrong that their mommy and daddy are with someone other than their mommy or daddy!

So, what do you do with these conflicting emotions from everyone? Let’s take a look today at some steps you can take to make this transition a little easier for your kids.

1. Be open - Let your children know that you feel like you’re ready to date. Explain to them what that may mean exactly for them. Don’t hide the fact from them. You aren’t seeking their approval, but you’re letting them know so they don’t become afraid about what all of this means.

This is an excellent opportunity for you to talk to them about what dating is and isn’t. You can share your values with them about relationships.

2. Reinforce how important the kids are to you - One of the reasons that kids get leery when their parents are ready to date again is fears that this will mean some type of abandonment. Their family has already been split apart and they are seeing less of each parent now than they used to. What will this dating thing mean to the time they get to spend with you?

It’s also not uncommon for children, especially the oldest, to try to take on a caretaker role for their single parents. They may fear they’ve not done a good enough job or will be replaced. Let your children know that you love them very much, but you require adult friendships as well as the relationship you have with them. This is not a taking away from them, but an adding to your life so that you may ultimately be a better parent because your life is more well rounded.

3. Be prepared for anger and resentment - This is yet another change in their ever changing lives. As I’ve said numerous times before in other articles, kids don’t like change! Honestly, does anyone? They may complain. They may ask a lot of questions or they may just sulk. You know your children and should be able to read their emotions. Deal with them head on. Don’t ignore them. Again, I’m not saying you shouldn’t date if your kids are unhappy. What I am telling you is that you need to address the issue with the kids, not ignore it and just assume they’ll get over it.

Another reason they may be upset is that with your dating, they need to accept that the dream they may have been holding onto, about you and their other parent reconciling, just isn’t going to happen.

This whole single parenting thing is tough. The only constant in it is change. Each time a new change occurs, it takes everyone time to figure out how it’s going to affect their lives and how to deal with it. Your dating is just another one of those changes. While it may be tempting to just not mess with the hassle of it all, remember that a happy and content parent is better able to parent than one who is frustrated and sacrifices their happiness for their children.

Parvo is a viral disease that attacks the immune system and intestinal tract of dogs. It was first identified in 1978 and can be transmitted by direct or indirect contact with vomit, feces or diarrhea from an infected dog.

Incubation & Indications

When a dog has been exposed to Parvo, the virus will enter the dog’s lymphatic system and incubate. Once the virus has completed the incubation stage, which can take anywhere from three to fifteen days, it will work its way into the intestinal tract and bone marrow. At that time the puppy will begin to show symptoms, which can include diarrhea, vomiting, lethargy, depression, dehydration, high fever and even sudden death.

Traditional Treatment

Historically, treatment has required taking your dogs to the vet where they will be kept for two or three days and given IV drips and anaesthetics. What’s more, they will be all by themselves in a strange environment, which can only cause your pets yet further distress. This treatment is not guaranteed to be successful - the only thing you can be certain of is that it will cost you hundreds of dollars in vet’s bills.

Natural Treatment

However, new, safer and more cost-effective all-natural solutions can now be obtained, thanks to the hard work and dedicated research of a handful of companies, one of which is Amber Technology from Utah.

Not only are these products safe (there are no known side-effects), but you can treat your dog at home in its every-day environment for a small percentage of the cost of the traditional treatment at a vet’s.

Clinical Trials

Amber Technology has tested two of its products, Parvaid and Vibactra Plus, to see if the virus could be prevented at the incubation stage (i.e. before the dog begins to show any symptoms). The results of the study prove that using Parvaid and Vibactra Plus before the puppy becomes symptomatic results in 90% of dogs not showing any symptoms.

However, if they have been wormed or vaccinated within seven days of the onset of Parvo, the numbers are less. If the dog has been exposed to Parvo AND has another illness, such as coccidia, the percentage numbers decline. (Amber Technology does not have an opinion as per the maintenance of vaccinations. Amber Technology suggests that you do your own research and make your own determinations as to whether or not you will vaccinate.)

Parvaid As A Preventative Measure

It takes an average of three days for the incubation process to take place. Let the puppy expose itself to the virus and allow its system to build its immunities for a couple of days. On the second day, begin giving your puppy Parvaid and Vibactra Plus. This process gives your puppy a greater chance of stopping the virus from reaching the intestinal tract (nine times out of ten, according to studies). The puppy can contract the illness if the exposure is not allowed because the puppy does not have the opportunity to build immunity to the virus.

This process is not a guarantee, however. As soon as the preventative treatment has been completed the puppy can contract the illness, either immediately afterwards or in the future. If this occurs, you should begin the full dose recommended for the treatment of Parvo.

There are a few other things to consider:

** Adult dogs can also become infected.

** If you have multiple dogs, there is a high risk that many will become infected if the virus is present.

** Parvovirus can be spread via vectors such as flies, mosquitoes, and other animals, making it nearly impossible to keep your yard virus-free.

** Since the virus multiplies easily and likes to hide in the ground, it can be all around your dog’s environment; therefore it is best to use Parvaid as a Preventative rather than trying to eradicate the virus from your yard.

Rae & Mark rescue dogs and have a mission to find natural, herbal-based remedies for both animals and humans. Prescription drugs can create many more problems than they solve and often exacerbate the ailments. We have therefore spent months researching alternatives. We’re happy to report that we’ve found some wonderful natural treatments, including Parvaid, which can be used to both prevent and treat Parvo.
