New iPod Games

I can’t say for sure when I know I was bitten but I have the date on my receipts (11/15/06). I guess I was late to the iPod party but I’ve not missed a step since I got involved with “Buck,” my iPod.

I’ve got 3 now, one just for movies, and another for music and one for data and I’m negotiating with a contact in China for 5 more.

iPod is the brain child of Steven Jobs, Apple guru and all around genius. More than 22 million ipods have been sold to US adults, which amounts to approximately 11% of the population (according to the non-profit Pew Internet & American Life Project). I became a fan and user and my addiction continues to grow stronger.

Now I spend my days learning about new applications and my nights surfing for clearance sales, closeouts, underground sources for discounts on accessories. For example, last week I found a site that sells what they call an iPod Converter.

This unit allows for unlimited downloads of movies and music and games and software and provides a lifetime membership in their download club. As a full blown movie nut this little handful of technology is gobbling up my free time by the hour.

Talk about addiction, I was rummaging through some magazines in the basement of the library at midnight (don’t ask) and found this underground techie magazine. There was a story about an MP3 converter that took me a few minutes to realize was the iPod converter I heard about last week.

The techie manual indicated this is better than Blockbuster and NetFlicks all rolled into one very user friendly palm-sized unit. I’ll share the link here anyone who is interested can read all about it.

As I continue to learn about all-things-iPod I’ve just discovered about iPod hacks. This reference startled me at first as it is not in my nature to destroy other’s enjoyment in any manner, especially when it comes to something like PCs and iPods.

What I learned is the term hacks when it refers to iPod is another way of saying accessories, except that the modification most likely will void your iPod’s warrantee. In any case the lists I found were nothing less than fascinating.

For instance, according to howstuffworks.com, the range of accessories includes downloadable iPod games and programs that convert DVDs to iPod-friendly video files. There are also programs that convert PDA files your PowerPoint presentations into files that work with your iPod-compatible.

The howstuffworks website also provided a reference to a list of some current applications:
“iPod hackers are publishing all sorts of programs that alter the way an iPod works — some of the software is free, and some of it is for purchase. Some currently available hacks let you:

- Make an iPod work with Linux machines and run Linux applications
- Remove volume caps (iPods sold in Europe cap the volume at 100 decibels; uncapped iPods can reach more than 115 decibels.)
- Turn your iPod into a universal remote
- Attach an external hard drive to your iPod to increase the storage capacity
- Change your iPod’s font and graphics
- Watch movies on your iPod in full-screen mode
- Plug your iPod into any computer (even without iTunes) and listen to music from the hard drive

- Transfer photos to iPod without using iTunes
- Replace iTunes all together as the iPod’s main jukebox
- Use an iPod with a Windows 98 machine “

While I am fascinated with the expansion this provides I am too cautious and protective of Buck to try anything other than factory sealed products from Apple. I can be patient until they ramp up to the accessory list I peeked at in an underground publication.

The upcoming Apple list is robust and will blow away the hacker’s meager offerings. Meanwhile, I’ll stick to my movie and music downloading which keeps me rather busy and satisfied.

However if you hear any buzz about an auto-pilot for long cross-country drives that’s compatible with a 2006 STS, please pass it on. I might just let Buck give it a try.

The Sony DSC W35 is a compact, seven megapixel digital camera. It performed well in my tests, especially outdoors. Other important factors include the fact it is easy to use and it is also one of the cheaper pocket sized cameras available.

Looking at the test pictures I took with the DSC W35 I cannot really see any major problems when you are taking photos outdoors in decent light. This suggests that if you are looking for an unobtrusive digital camera to take on holiday then this one could be worth a close look. Compared to other digital cameras with a similar price tag I found the sharpness of the photos better than I normally see. When the zoom lens is not being used at all or if it is fully extended there is a slight decrease in the level of sharpness towards the edges of the photos. Aside from that I have very little to complain about.

For portrait shots again I found the camera performed well as long as there were satisfactory lighting levels. Inside in poorer light the camera can struggle a bit. This is especially the case if you move towards the edge of the range of the flash unit. This is just 2m when you are using the zoom lens to its full capacity.

One shot I could not get right was the macro shot. In my test I take a photo of a watch, but I was unable to get the picture really sharp. The camera also struggled to get the colour right when up close. You may be able to overcome this problem by trying different white balance settings.

At 23mm wide you should have little problem fitting the DSC W35 into a pocket. There are slimmer models around, but this one is still compact enough.

This is also one of the few pocket sized digital cameras to include a viewfinder. Perhaps not surprisingly on a camera of this size the viewfinder is on the small side, but it can still come in useful, especially when bright sunlight is bouncing off the LCD screen. The screen is 2 inches in size. This is smaller that the 2.5 inches that is becoming the standard size.

In terms of features this is a typical point and shoot digital camera. It does come with all the regular features such as zoom, movie taking, scene modes, macro and various flash settings.

Sony have built 56mb of memory into the DSC W35. This is very generous when compared to the 10 to 16mb that many rival brands offer. This is enough to take a around 20 still image or shoot some movie footage. This gives you the chance to give the camera a good once over before deciding if it is the right one for you.

Battery power is supplied by a lithium ion battery. Sony supplies both a battery and a charger in the box with the camera. If you are concerned about the battery running down just when you need it you can always purchase a spare, but I would recommend making sure the battery is fully charged before you set off to take any important photos.

In conclusion I am impressed with the Sony DSC W35. It is not often you are able to find a genuine pocket sized digital camera available for such a low price. It works well in most situations and I can see this camera selling well.

Three Email Marketing Tips That Make It Easy For Your Subscriber

Easy is the name of the game. Email marketing receivers love it when your company keeps it simple and easy. Discussed below are three ways to make email marketing easy for your subscriber.

Easy To Subscribe & Update

Place your “subscribe here” link on every page of your site; from your home page, to product/service links, to “about us” needs to have the link. This way your viewer can subscribe anywhere and at anytime. As well, place the “subscribe here” link on transitions, confirmations and other emails sent to subscriber. This can bring in new customers through “work of mouth” or “through the grapevine.”

When taking your future subscriber through the process of registration, three clicks are all you need. Click from link to subscriber page, click from subscriber page to submission and click from submission to confirmation. Keep it simple.

Once you have your subscriber give them the option to fill in more preferences. This option is put in with the emails they receive from your company. Avoid this during the request for subscription it can discourage your viewer and turn them away.

Easy To Identify Your Email

On the subject line of your email enter your companies name followed by an interesting phrase pertaining to your email campaign. This will get the viewer interested, while leading away from suspicion of spam. Stay away from dull, original subjects, it will only get lost in the mix.

Easy To Unsubscribe

Yes, this will be of value. When your subscriber is ready to unsubscribe allow them to do it in one click. Always keep the unsubscribe link on the bottom of your emails. This way they don’t have to hunt for it. If you make them hunt, you’ll likely get the “report spam” button or they will be ignored and deleted. This makes it easy on your company as well because then their email is removed from your mass list. This feature is beneficial to you and the subscriber.

Keep it easy and you will keep them happy. When drawing customers in make it easy and accessible. When getting identifying yourself through email, identify your company name and a striking headline. When saying goodbye to those not interested anymore, make it easy.

Once you have decided that you would like to make some money on the Internet, it might be hard to try to figure out exactly how you can. One easy way to start off is to put Google AdSense on your website, if you have one. Google AdSense are the ads that you see on people’s websites where it says “ads by Google”, and also show up at the right hand side when you search on Google’s website. If you have a page with AdSense on it, and someone clicks on it, you will get paid for the click. It can be a simple way to earn some extra income on your website, or a way to start earning income.

If you already have a website, and traffic going to that website, you can easily get an AdSense account from Google, and add a few ads to your site. The great thing is that the ads will be on the same topic as your website is, so the person who is visiting your site has a good chance of being interested in the ad. If they are interested, and click on the ad, you will get paid for it.

If on the other hand you don’t have a website up, this can be a good time to start one. This shows you that you don’t even need to be selling a product in order to earn an income. If you have a lot of knowledge on a certain topic, you can start a website on that topic. You can get a domain name, hosting, and put up a lot of information on the topic that you are interested in, and know a lot about. You can then add the Google AdSense ads, and you will be able to make money.

If you have a lot of knowledge on a particular topic, but don’t want to spend any money at all, you can still use Google AdSense to earn money. There are many places you can start a blog for free, such as at Blogger. Here you will be able to start your blog completely for free, and still be able to earn income from AdSense, which is great. You will just have to put the time into getting all of the information about your topic so that other people will be interested in reading it. Another way to earn income from Google AdSense is to find a website that will share the income with you. There are many forums, or other sites like Squidoo that will share any income they earn through AdSense with you. So completely for free, you can set up a page or more with information, and end up earning money.

This is a great way for someone who is new to making money on the web to get started. It can be a very low cost (if you get your own domain and hosting), or even free to start, and you can start making money right away. While most clicks only give you a few cents here and there, they definitely add up, and before you know it you can be making a decent amount of money through Google AdSense!

A. Self-Centredness. This is an easy road to travel, especially when we want our own way. Letting one’s self-interest take priority in an unbalanced way can be poisonous to a partnership. The other person usually ends up feeling deprived, resentful and unimportant. Furthermore, the more self-involved you are, the more you tend to take your relationship for granted, the less you appreciate your partner and the more alone you actually feel. Wherever there is selfishness and being self-absorbed, there will be very unhappy people. If your relationship is slanted in this way, you also lose out, because you experience less of the joy that a true connection can bring. Couples are guaranteed to get more from their relationship through reciprocity than from focusing on themselves.

B. Attacking and scapegoating. Aggressive communication is unacceptable, especially if the abuse is getting physical. Physical or sexual abuse break all bonds in a marriage, and should prompt a permanent separation. The abusive partner needs to get professional help to learn skills in anger management, in order to gain (and consistently demonstrate) better control over his/her emotions and behaviour. Even if the help is sought and progress is made, the risk of recurrence remains high. So, in most cases, the abused partner should not return to the relationship. Returning serves to reinforce the abusive behaviour, leading to increased severity and frequency. As someone once said, physical abuse is like opening a Pandora’s box. Once opened, it’s difficult to close.

Ask for Help

Verbally blaming, accusing and insulting your partner are less extreme forms of destructiveness, but they are not acceptable either. Assertiveness training can provide the essential skills for healthy communication. As to taking out your anger or frustration on you partner, that is cowardly. Being held responsible for things that are out of our control is the most stressful of conditions, because we cannot help the situation and we all have our own problems too. Rather than hurt the ones you love, you should do what it takes to face the real problem and deal with it as effectively as you can. If you are unsure of how to address a problem, the mature thing to do is to ask for help and support from trusted sources (i.e. a friend, relative, or counsellor). When we look to others to relieve our frustrations by holding them responsible for our unhappiness, we carry around the same baggage to every relationship and end up getting the same results every time.

C. Neglect. This includes workaholism, addictions or ignoring partners. A primary function of a relationship is to provide companionship and to meet each other’s needs. When other activities, interests or preoccupations interfere with our availability, partners end up being short-changed. This can be thought of as domestic absenteeism. Taking an inventory and making adjustments in how we spend our time are the first steps in remedying this problem. Treat your partner as the important person he/she is by spending enough quality time together to satisfy both requirements and maintain your connection.

In the latter years of our marriage, my ex-husband used to lie in bed until the afternoon each Saturday and Sunday, the prime time for us to be together. Once he got up, he was impatient to do his chores until the rest of the day, totally ignoring my needs. As I would normally be up much earlier, I tended to spend many hours on my own each weekend without him seeming to care what I did in that time. Yet, once he got up, if I were busy with my computer work or paid him little attention, he then regarded that as selfish and uncaring. He never acknowledged the effects of his consistent neglect of our available time together to be somewhat selfish and uncaring.

He is also a shining example of his own assertion that “Failure is simply the opportunity to begin again, this time more intelligently.”

In 1928, Henry Ford set out to increase his bottom line by exerting more control over his supply chain - now called vertical integration - and began the process of creating his own rubber plantation in Brazil. There is some debate over whether his motive was strictly to achieve better pricing for the raw materials needed to make tires for the automobiles he was manufacturing; there was, at the time, a virtual monopoly on rubber coming from a limited number of producers.

He persisted in his venture through numerous difficulties, including a riot by the workers on his plantation who were not enthusiastic about being forced to adhere to the American lifestyle imposed by the management of the facility. He finally gave up in 1945 when the advent of synthetic rubber made organic rubber obsolete for manufacturing purposes. He sold the entire operation to the Brazilian government for a loss of $20 million, which equates to $200 million in today’s economy.

But Henry Ford didn’t just give up and walk away. He continued to build his automotive empire into what we know today as one of the premier automobile manufacturers with a global market. He persisted, and continued to work toward his ultimate vision. His achievements are legendary, and his insight into the human condition is profound. Other quotes from his writings and interviews are:

“Whether you think that you can, or that you can’t, you are usually right.”

“Coming together is a beginning; keeping together is progress; working together is success.”

“Obstacles are those frightful things you see when you take your eyes off your goal.”

“Time and money spent in helping men to do more for themselves is far better than mere giving.”

“A business absolutely devoted to service will have only one worry about profits. They will be embarrassingly large.”

I have no doubt that Henry Ford learned some of these concepts the hard way - through experience and occasional failure - but I am equally certain that the lessons he learned and have passed on will prove to be as valuable in the present and future as they were to him in the past.

Failure is a learning tool…not an indication of worthlessness.

Success will come to those who are devoted to the concept of service, and can work together with others of like mind.

Developing a mindset for accomplishment and staying focused on the goal will be the greatest challenge, and the sweetest victory.

Whatever your challenges are, and despite the obstacles that life places in your path, your dreams and goals can be achieved by applying the same principles that have resulted in one of the greatest success stories of the 20th century. Use these principles on a daily basis, and your achievements will astound you!

Sneaky Little Truth That Puts An Easy $2000 Adsense Money In Your Pocket

Google’s Adsense program is quietly making people rich and I am sure you know that. However, most people who are into the adsense program and *trying* hard to make good monthly pay outs are in the dark on certain killer strategies that produce good cash from adsense.

I was playing around in my adsense account when something caught my attention. It read..

“When a publisher who signed up for Google AdSense through your referral earns $5.00 within 180 days of sign-up, you will be credited with $5.00. When that same publisher earns $100.00 within 180 days of sign-up and is eligible for payout, you will be credited with an additional $250.00. If, in any 180 day period, you refer 25 publishers who each earn more than $100.00 and are all eligible for payout, you will be awarded a $2,000.00 bonus. * (* A Google AdSense referral is counted only for publishers never previously enrolled in Google AdSense. You may only receive 1 bonus payout per year. )

WOW.. I was shocked. So, if several people join the adsense program through me, I stand a chance of earning an easy $100 when they become eligible for payout and even better, I get $2000 when 25 people become eligible for payout in a 180day period. That got me thinking..

Why on earth have I been mucking around, inserting the images for download of the browser when I could have concentrated my
efforts on promoting the join adsense links? Of course I know fully well that a lot of those who join the adsense program will try to get their payouts as quick as possible and as soon as they do - I also get paid.

Immediately I realized this, I began “mucking” around with all adsense on all of my sites. I changed a lot of the banner images to reflect “join adsense” instead of all the other low paying… you know.

If you still haven’t caught on to this,
well you are hearing it now. Its time to begin to do some tweaking at your end of things and start getting people to join
your adsense.

A 30 Day Crusade Against Smoking - Day 7 - I Am Bitter

Bans on public smoking are spreading throughout the world. That suits Eric who is a lifelong non-smoker, nay, ANTI-smoker. For 30 days he will change the world and the habits of current smokers.

Day 7:

I need to move on now. My plans are not being as effective as I would like and I need to be firmer and more resolute in my attentions.

I enjoy a trip to the local public bar / inn / tavern. It’s a nice place - homely in the winter with the roaring log fire and light and airy in the summer. A few beers, a sprinkling of newspapers and some fine food add to the ambience and sensation of well being.

If it were not for the smokers.

Smoking and drinking seem to go together like strawberries and cream or black and white. Except, I don’t believe I will ever die from a strawberry, even if it was thrown at me (although I concede that it make an awful mess and my wife would have difficulty removing the stain).

So, I’m sitting there drinking best bitter. It is cool to the throat and goes down well apart from the 20 cubic litres of stale (and fresh) cigarette smoke that I am consuming every minute. The smokers are there at the bar and at the tables. They are oblivious to the fact that they are ruining my enjoyment of the time at the establishment. They fill the air with putrid fumes that make me want to gag and, of course, that can significantly add to my demise.

Today I got my own back. A particularly vile person next to me was loud and boisterous. Getting out cigarette after cigarette made my blood boil. Why should they interfere with my enjoyment? I do nothing to them.

Except today. I took a pint of best bitter (that I know and love so much) and tipped it over their head. It drenched them and, luckily, some of it extinguished the cigarette. It was an empiric victory but backfired a little. That is why I am typing this from the hospital internet cafe.

How Having A Plan Can Kick Start Your Email Marketing Project

Email marketing is an excellent source for finding, reaching out to and keeping in touch with clients and visitors. All great designs stem from an idea, which is then implemented into careful planning. Discussed in this article is exactly that, how to create a communication plan for your email marketing.

Determine Your Objective

What does your business want to accomplish from your email marketing? Think in general but measurable terms. You want to be able to refer back to your objective and evaluate your positive or negative results. This will aid in change, if needed in your objectives. Lets look at an example:

Maxwell’s Brew will contact 50 clients through email marketing in our first week of program use.

This objective is simple but it can be measured. Did they get 50 peoples email addresses? Did they reach them? Did any respond, bring in coupons or attend a special day event?

Objectives can always be changed as the project increases and becomes more tangible.

For example:

Maxwell’s Brew will contact 100 clients and will chart the coupon return for a month following the email market send out.

This objectives is still general and measurable, but at a more direct scale.

Objective Must Be Directed Towards Your Audience

As in all business plans you will not go far unless you know exactly who your target audience is. This is important to identify because you want to tailor your email plan directly to your target audience. For example Maxwell’s Brew is located right outside a college campus, but within miles from two high schools. Maxwell’s audience would be young adults from 15-23. Additionally researching the demographics surrounding your audience will aid in targeting that right audience. Some examples of demographics include: age, race, income, education, and location.

Your Audience Wants To See Benefits

How will each target audience benefit from your email marketing? They want to know what you can do for them. If your email marketing is weekly or monthly switch it up a bit, give them something new each time. Feature new or old items; offer a percent off, or something extra with a purchase.

Along with developing benefits is creating a meaningful message. What do you want your audience to know? What do you want to tell them? Keep in mind you need to be persuasive in your writing and distinguish yourself from the competitors. Tell them what makes your business unique.

Designing A Look For Your Audience

An email marketing campaign is similar to designing a web site. Does it stay true to your organizations values and brand? Don’t overwhelm your viewer with to many graphics or text. Keep it simple and don’t forget to put your contact information.

Take Time For A Timeline

It’s important to have a written agenda for this project. This will keep you on track and aware of deadlines. Get together with your team and decided how much time each person will need to finish his or her work. If one person can do everything a timeline is still needed. This way they can go from creating the mailing list, to finding graphics, developing text and putting it all together in a well regimented time-span.

Email marketing must be carefully thought out and planned. Start by setting your objectives, determining your audience, describing benefits, communicating a meaningful message, designing a look and make a timeline.
