I should have known better to say what I said, seeing how the caller was from an accounting firm. I merely suggested she put the firm’s logo on the back of a baseball cap. Her silence caused the sort of anticipation you experience when someone blows up a balloon until it pops. The words came slowly at first … finally she blurted, “You … you want to put my logo WHERE?!”

Trying to regain control of the conversation I asked, “Claudia, why is your firm’s sign out front?”

She replied, “What? Well, because that’s where everyone will see it.”

“Right. And if everyone could see your sign out back, you’d put it there too, right?” I asked.

“Of course,” she replied.

“Well,” I said. “When your employees are sitting in the stands at the baseball game, or standing in line for a hot dog or to use the restroom - everyone behind them will be looking at the back of their head. Would you like all those people to see your logo?”

“Hmmmmmmmmmmm.”

Placement of your logo on promotional marketing items, such as baseball hats, should be given as much thought as is given to selection of the item itself. For sake of this article, lets assume you’ve chosen an appropriate item for your event or promotion. And, your primary goal is to broaden your name I.D. Now, let’s give the same serious thought to logo placement. Consider the following: how will the product be used, where will it be used, venue, day or evening event, indoor or outdoor, will people be sitting or standing?

With ball caps worn to a sporting event, most want to put the logo on the front. But if you want to maximize the advertising potential of a cap, put the logo on the back as well.

Folding, portable chairs are another place people commonly misplace the logo. Why put the logo on the front of the chair, where it is covered up when the chair is in use? Better to put the logo on the backside of the chair where everyone behind the user can see your logo.

What about pencils and pens? If you think about it, you’ll ensure that the imprint is as near the eraser end as possible. This way, your logo remains to be seen … even after multiple sharpenings. Same goes for pens but for a different reason. People hold a pen towards the bottom. If your logo is imprinted toward the bottom it will be covered up when the item is used properly. Fat lot of good that does you.

With mugs, ask yourself, “Who do I want to see my logo? The person drinking? The person sitting across from the person drinking? Both? Pick up a mug and drink from it paying careful attention to what you see. Imagine your logo or message on the INSIDE lip of the mug. How about the bottom inside of the mug. And remember the bottom outside of the mug too. All these areas are imprintable with your logo. You need merely decide who you want to see your logo and how much you can afford to invest in a mug.

Say you want to have your name seen at the beach. “Hey! How about beach towels?”, someone yells. Beach towels are an ok idea, except for the fact that when people lay on them they’ll cover up your logo. And while some people may leave your towel stretched out while they take a dip or play beach volley ball, many will scrunch the towel up to keep sand off of it. So a beach blanket may be a great idea. But again, when in use, your logo is covered up.

A better idea for the beach may be a cooler. Here again, most people will want the logo on the lid of the cooler. That’s fine and dandy … if you pretty much want your logo to be seen only by the owner of the cooler and then only when they’re right on top of it getting in it. Better, is to put the logo on the front and/or back of the cooler. This way your logo can be seen by most who walk by the cooler and from a greater distance.

As far as the accounting firm? After some thought, Claudia put the logo on the front AND back of the hat and had a successful ballpark outing. She said that once at the ballpark, the back of the hat made perfect sense.

It’s a heart wrenching book and one that has impacted my life in a way that only history will be able the fathom as it compels me to write and to witness to more people who do not have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

I got my copy for $17.50 and it was well worth the price. I wish that every Christian would own their own copy of the book and even have the courage to lend it out to there unsaved friends.

It was interesting to see how every person in hell knew who Jesus was and how many of them knew of His call of their lives while they were living and then in some instances its quiet scary to see those who seemed to be quite repentant in His presence suddenly turn to curse Jesus as He passed them by.

I strongly recommend you buy this book.

Pressure is mounting inside DaimlerChrysler—maker of Mercedes vehicles and quality Mercedes strut mount— as it held its annual stockholders’ meeting. Shareholders are demanding for the immediate disposal of the Chrysler Group.

But despite the active calls by shareholder groups that want to see the German-American automaker scrap its US counterpart and return to being solely German again, those looking for answers are likely to leave disappointed.

As expected by most analysts, there was no announcement made at last Wednesday’s meeting participated by some 8,000 shareholders.

In a filing with the US Securities & Exchange Commission last week outlining the meeting, there was no mention of the sale of Chrysler which can be remembered has been on the table since Chief Executive Dieter Zetsche said last February 14 that all options for the Chrysler Group are already on the table.

It should be noted that more than one million shareholders of DaimlerChrysler is pushing to dissolve the union of the German-American automaker. Ekkehard Wenger and Leonhard Knoll have put forth such motion calling for the company to revert back to its original name, Daimler-Benz AG. They contend that in order to “maintain a corporate name that evokes associations with the failure of the business combination with Chrysler is detrimental to the image of the corporation and its products.”

Holger Rothbauer, a member of KADC Critical Shareholders-DaimlerChrysler, one of those who opposed the 1998 acquisition of Chrysler said that he suspects that Zetsche made his February announcement just to calm down the shareholders as preparation for the annual meeting.

Rothbauer although he opposed the merger is also against the selling of Chrysler for now since he claimed that the American arm of Daimler is undervalued. Instead he wants to see the unit fixed and then disposed of for a much bigger gain.

But of course, it is clear to all shareholders that if ever Chrysler is sold, Daimler would never gain back what it has paid for it. Analysts value the Chrysler AG from nothing to US$13.7 billion or euro10.29 billion. The estimates will also vary with the value placed on the assets such as brand names, factories and materials, all weighed against Chrysler’s estimated US$19 billion (euro14.3 billion) liability to pay healthcare benefits for unionized retirees.

And basing from the evaluation of the Chrysler AG it is rather obvious that the liability exceeds the value of the assets which is exactly the point that Rothbauer is stressing. The purchase of the Chrysler Group would seem as if Daimler has paid someone just to take its money-losing unit which should not be the case in the first place.

Rothbauer has also stressed the fact that the union with Chrysler has tainted the image quality of Mercedes-Benz. With the disposal of the Chrysler Group, Rothbauer would also demand for the ousting of Zetsche whom he blames for getting Daimler-Benz into the deal in the first place.

There are no sure buyers for the Chrysler Group yet but the Canadian auto-parts supplier Magna International Inc. has been reported to have submitted a bid to buy for Chrysler at a price range between US$4.6 billion to US$4.7 billion (euro3.45 to euro3.53 billion). Similarly, major equity firms Blackstone Group and Cerberus Capital Management LLP are also rumored to be in pursuit of Chrysler.

Another name arise as a possible buyer and that is General Motors Corp. which was reported to express interest shortly after Zetsche announced that it will exchange Chrysler for a stake in GM. According to Alex Neuberger, an analyst who keeps track of DaimlerChrysler for the CA Cheuvreaux brokerage in Frankfurt, Zetsche is under intense pressure from the German shareholders to once and for all dispose Chrysler.

He also said that Zetsche was probably dismayed when Chrysler CEO Tom LaSorda has announced another round of restructuring plan promising a 2.5 percent return on sales by 2009. It should be noted that the rate of return promised was rather low considering that it would be after the restructuring program plus the fact that numerous new products would hit the market.

DaimlerChrysler AG’s annual general meetings have always been a stormy event in recent years with stockholders hammering out at the transatlantic car giant’s management over the group’s declining share price plus the failure of its ambitious global expansion to produce positive results.

And now after nine years of spending money into the troubled Chrysler operations, what the company’s shareholders and investors would like to know from DaimlerChrysler’s Chief Dieter Zetsche are his plans for the next stage of rolling back the group’s international empire specifically the disposal of the loss-making US arm—Chrysler AG.

Discarding Chrysler AG would take DaimlerChrysler back to the year 1998 when its former chief Juergen Schrempp introduce his vision to covert the Stuttgart-based company and maker of Mercedes-Benz luxury cars and auto components such as Mercedes steering rack—-into a Welt AG or World Inc.

It was also Schrempp that spearheaded the union between Germany’s Daimler and US-based Chrysler which the former chief hailed as a “marriage made in heaven’”. But just like any marriage that doesn’t “work” the union of Daimler and Chrysler has to end. Since staying married to each other would only cause both parties more damage than good.

It should be noted that starting last February the company’s share price has recovered after DaimlerChrysler Chief Zetsche has announced that all options were on the table for its US-based arm. According to Unio Investment funds manager Ingo Speich in an interview with the German business daily Handelsblatt, “Splitting off Chrysler appears to us as appropriate.” This statement made by Speich reflects the views of other fund management groups attending Wednesday’s AGM.

Last February Zetsche also unveiled another plan to revamp Chrysler including cutting 13,000 jobs after fierce competition in the US resulted in the American carmaker to obtain an astounding 1.92 million euros (2.6 billion USD) loss last 2006. There are already couples of equity firms and carmakers that are looking at the possibility of taking over Chrysler and one of which is General Motors Corp which have been sizing up Daimler’s loss-making US arm. The news of a possible buyout from GM has helped increase the shares of DaimlerChrysler to more than 30 percent obtaining 1.3 million for the DCX stockholders.

In fairness to DaimlerChrysler it has exert all efforts as well as resources in trying to turnaround Chrysler to the extent that it has unintentionally neglected the company’s flagship Mercedes Benz cars which were suddenly bombarded with complaints about deteriorating quality and mounting losses.

It would have been easier for Mercedes Benz to address such problems if only its arch rival BMW has not emerged as the world’s premium car brand. The disposal of Chrysler would once and for all help ease the pressure on DaimlerChrysler. Chrysler on its part is continuing to struggle to deal with its loss-making Smart minicars which unfortunately form part of the Mercedes Benz Group.

Actually the first time that Daimler pulled an alliance with Chrysler, analysts were forecasting a bleak future which they based on the previously failed partnership between Daimler and Mitsubishi Motors Corp especially when the German automaker refused to help its debt-ridden Japanese auto group.

The tie-up with Mitsubishi formed a key pillar of Schrempp’s vision to build a global empire with operations across Daimler’s home base in Europe expanding to the world’s biggest car market in the US up to Asia’s fast-paced economy.

The countdown for the disposal of the Chrysler AG has increased the stock of DaimlerChrysler’s by 1.4 percent to 62.26 euros in a trading conducted last Monday following media reports that the carmaker has been able to acquire bids totaling to 9.0 billion dollars.

Last month US investment house Morgan Stanley has increase its price estimate for DaimlerChrysler shares by more than 20 percent to 75 euros on the grounds that basis that the group manages to split off Chrysler. According to the report written by Adam Jonas, an analyst from Morgan Stanley to clients, “We are prepared to value it under the assumption that it extricates itself from Chrysler.”

Similarly most analysts also share the same opinion that DaimlerChrysler would not sustained rebound in its share price if it will not dump Chrysler. There are three private equity firms that are lining up to take Chrysler off Daimler’s hands and these are the Cerberus Capital Management LP, Centerbridge Partners LP, and the Blackstone Group.

Cerberus has already asked the help of former Chrysler chief operating officer Wolfgang Bernhard, who after leaving Volkswagen AG in January resurfaced shortly after as an adviser to Cerberus.

Other carmakers such as Renault, Nissan, VW, and Toyota have ruled out bidding for Chrysler.
