Vegetarian Soup Recipe

Here are 3 great vegetarian soup recipes for you to make and try.

ARTICHOKE SOUP.

1 lb. each of artichokes and potatoes, 1 Spanish onion, 1 oz. of butter, 1 pint of milk, and pepper and salt to taste.

Peel, wash, and cut into dice the artichokes, potatoes, and onion. Cook them until tender in 1 quart of water with the butter and seasoning. When the vegetables are tender rub them through a sieve. Return the liquid to the saucepan, add the milk, and boil the soup up again. Add water if the soup is too thick. Serve with Allinson plain rusks, or small dice of bread fried crisp in butter or vege-butter.

CARROT SOUP.

4 good-sized carrots, 1 head of celery, 1 onion, 3 oz. of Allinson wholemeal bread without crust, 1 oz. of butter, pepper and salt, and 1 blade of mace.

Wash, scrape, and cut the carrots into dice. Prepare and cut up the onions and celery. Set the vegetables over the fire with 3 pints of water, adding the mace and seasoning. Let all cook until quite soft, which will probably be in 1-1/2 hours. If the carrots are old, they will take longer cooking. When the vegetables are tender, rub all through a sieve, return the soup to the saucepan, add the butter, allow it to boil up, and serve with sippets of toast.

LEEK SOUP.

2 bunches of leeks, 1-1/2 pints of milk, 1 oz. of butter, 1 lb.
of potatoes, pepper and salt to taste, and the juice of a
lemon.

Cut off the coarse part of the green ends of the leeks, and cut the leeks length ways, so as to be able to brush out the grit. Wash the leeks well, and see no grit remains, then cut them in short pieces. Peel, wash, and cut up the potatoes, then cook both vegetables with 2 pints of water. When the vegetables
are quite tender, rub them through a sieve. Return the mixture to the saucepan, add the butter, milk, and seasoning, and boil the soup up again. Before serving add the lemon juice; serve with sippets of toast.

Why Babies Need Full - Fat Foods

As adults, we know that we should avoid the full-fat versions of many foods — so doesn’t this rule apply to our babies, too?

Well, not for the first 2 years of life. Recommendations from the American Academy of Pediatrics place your baby in the very enviable position of being encouraged to eat foods such as full-fat cheese, yogurt and fromage frais.

This is because babies grow very rapidly at this stage — amazingly, the average baby will triple his birthweight and grow 10 inches in length during his first year alone! Unsurprisingly, his body requires an enormous amount of energy to support this growth — and he obtains this energy from fat.

Fat is also important for the development of your baby’s brain — did you know that 60% of the brain and the sheaths around the nerves are actually made up of fat?

At first, your baby’s fat requirements are met by breast milk or formula. Once you introduce him to solids, the extra fat he needs will be provided by full-fat dairy products. And, of course, dairy foods will supply your baby with additional calcium, too — yogurt is a particularly excellent source and provides your baby with more calcium than milk!

Remember, though, that cow’s milk should not be given to your baby as a main drink before his first birthday. This is because it is too low in iron to meet your baby’s essential iron requirements and also because the protein in cow’s milk can sometimes cause allergic reactions.

But once your baby is at least one year of age, you should give him full-fat cow’s milk until the age of two. At this point, the American Academy of Pediatrics recommends switching to a lower fat variety — if you postpone the introduction of reduced fat milk much later than this, you may find that your child is unwilling to accept it!

Home Business - Make Sense Of The Failure Rate

When there is such an enormous choice of ways to make money at home, it seems strange that so many people fail when they try to start their own home business. Do they all choose the wrong business for them or is there something inherently wrong with the idea of earning money working from home? The statistics produced in regard to home businesses say that 90% will come to an end within the first five years. Ninety percent is a frighteningly high failure rate. If we assume the statistics are correct, should we let them deter us from working from home?

Some people quote a failure rate of 95% or 98% for Internet based businesses but, for now, let’s assume the failure rate is at the same 90% level for any home business (online or offline). One thing that the figures don’t reflect is that five years is a long time for most of the people who start their own home based business. All sorts of people, for all sorts of reasons, decide to have a try at making money working at home. However, the majority of the people who decide to start a business so they can work at home are mothers of young children. They want to be able to earn money working at home whilst still meeting the demands of a young family. After five years, their circumstances can be very different.

Five years is a long time in childhood. In that length of time a child’s needs will change dramatically. Just picture the difference between a newborn and a five year old, or a four year old and a nine year old. For a really dramatic example think about how a child will change in five years from an eight year old kiddie to a teenager.

After five years working at home, the mother might feel comfortable in arranging for part-time care for the child outside school hours so that she can go back to a career she enjoyed before the responsibilities of motherhood took over. Alternatively the mother might decide to replace her home business with a more challenging one because she finds she has extra time she can commit to working at home. Maybe more children arrive and the mother simply does not have the time or energy to run a business while caring for several small children.

In either of the first two examples, if the business brought in a profit before it ended, it can hardly be deemed a failure but, because the business ended, it will be lumped in with the doom laden figure of 90%. In the third example, it might be fair to say the business failed but again the figures don’t tell us that the reason was not because there was anything wrong with the business itself.

Another work at home statistic tells us that 50% of home businesses fail within the first year. Although 50% does not seem as foreboding as figures of 90% and above, for half of all home businesses to end within their first year is still a huge failure rate. The reasons most home businesses fail within the first year are mostly due to mistakes or unrealistic expectations on the part of the business owner.

Many people mistakenly think the freedom and flexibility to be enjoyed in having a home business means they won’t have to do any real work to earn money. Other people fail to behave in a businesslike way: they treat their home business more like a hobby they can play around with when they feel like it. These people put a minimal amount of effort into their home business and then wonder why they don’t make a profit. Other people make an unfortunate choice and, only when it is too late, they realise they are not going to be happy running the business they picked.

People from each of these three groups often get labelled with disparaging names like “quitter” because they drop their home business at a very early stage. Patience and persistence are key to succeeding with a home business but it is also true that there is nothing to be gained in applying the whip if your horse is deceased. If you have no real hope of getting anywhere, it is far better to take a realistic view, cut your losses and use the experience as a lesson.

Personally, I have quite a bit of sympathy for the people in the third group who realise they made a bad choice and give up: it takes courage to admit to making a mistake. The people from this group who reassess their situation and pick another home business to work at often make good use of the lesson to be learned from their early failure. They account for many of the people who end up in the magic 5% - 10% who own a successful home business.

I Love German Wine And Food - A Baden Pinot Noir

If you are looking for fine German wine and food, consider the Baden region of southeastern Germany. You may find a bargain, and I hope that you’ll have fun on this fact-filled wine education tour in which we review a local Pinot Noir.

The Baden region is the southernmost wine-growing region in Germany. Most of its many vineyards are found in a long, narrow strip between the Black Forest and the Rhine River. Across this river lies the French wine region of Alsace. While about 60% of the wine production is white, by far the most important Baden grape variety is the red Pinot Noir. White varieties include the German-bred Müller Thurgau, Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc, and Riesling. Baden ranks third in Germany for both vineyard acreage and total wine production. Slightly over one third of its wine production is QbA wine, the remainder is the higher quality QmP wine. Baden produces no table wine.

If you’re going to be in Baden, why not visit Baden-Baden? This town, simply called Baden until 1931, is the center of a famous spa taking advantage of the local hot springs already known to the Ancient Romans. The city offers a casino, the oldest casino in Germany. It was here that the Russian writer Fyodor Dostoyevsky wrote The Gambler to pay off his gambling debts, while not increasing them at the tables. Be sure to visit Abtei Lichtenthal, a medieval Cistercian abbey. The Festspielhaus Baden-Baden (Baden-Baden Festival Theatre) is Germany’s largest opera house and concert hall with 2,500 seats.

Before reviewing the Baden wine and imported cheeses that we were lucky enough to purchase at a local wine store and a local Italian food store, here are a few suggestions of what to eat with indigenous wines when touring this beautiful region.
Start with Schwarzwälder Schinken (Black Forest Ham).
Continue with Forelle (Trout) done in dozens of ways.
For dessert indulge yourself with Schwarzwälder Torte (Black Forest Cake, Chocolate Cake with Whipped Cream and Cherries).

OUR WINE REVIEW POLICY All wines that we taste and review are purchased at the full retail price.

Wine Reviewed
Konigschaffhausen Pinot Noir 2003 13.0% alcohol about $15

Let’s start by quoting the marketing materials. The hot growing season of 2003 facilitated a level of ripeness in the vineyards of many regions, including Baden, that was almost unprecedented. Expect ripe strawberry, cherry, and plum aromas and flavors. This Pinot would complement grilled salmon or veal chops.

My first meal consisted of breaded, fried chicken breast with potato salad, eggplant, and tomato salad. Perhaps because I knew that the wine was a Pinot Noir, I tasted the earth and a bit of tobacco. I really enjoyed this combination.

For my next tasting, I started with a tomato-based eggplant salad and humus topped by very piquant Moroccan spices. I continued with beef stew and potatoes. Once again I knew this Pinot Noir was a Pinot Noir and I enjoyed it all the way.

The final meal wasn’t really a meal. It was a late night snack of cold barbequed chicken. The wine was excellent and tasted of light cherries. At first I thought it was short, but later sips changed my mind.

As often, I tried this wine with two cheeses. The first was an overripe French Camembert, a soft cow’s milk cheese. The wine became flatter, and while it was still fruity what a shame to combine the two. It was as if somebody shaved the top off the wine. I guess you know by now that German Limberger cheese can be quite pungent; this one was certainly starting to smell but interestingly enough the odor didn’t really affect its taste. My Pinot Noir retained a bit more of its fruit than when paired with the Camembert, but frankly, why waste this wine with this cheese?

Final verdict. I’m going to buy this wine again. The 2003 vintage is no longer available so I’ll grab the 2004 and see what a difference a year makes.

Relief Of Back Pain While Healing

Back pain, especially lower back pain, is one of the most common types of pain reported in the U.S. It is probably just as common in many other countries, since it is often brought on by improper lifting techniques or unaccustomed exercise.

Most back pain will resolve itself in two to four weeks, but until it does, what can you do for relief of back pain?

Initial Relief of Back Pain

For immediate relief of sudden back pain, try lying flat on the floor on your back. Raise your legs and place them on a chair. This position will relieve the pressure on your back. Remain on the floor until you begin to get relief of back pain.

Ongoing Relief of Back Pain

In the first weeks, there is a tried and proven regimen for relief of back pain. Using most or all of the following in conjunction with one another will give maximum relief of back pain.

1. Rest

Most of us naturally resort to rest for relief of back pain. This is good when done in moderation. However, you should not take to your bed and stay there. Relief of back pain depends on as much activity as is comfortable. Getting up and moving around can ease the stiffness and hasten the anticipated ultimate relief of back pain.

2. Heat

Heat gives relief of back pain by relaxing the muscles. By dilating the blood vessels, heat improves the flow of oxygen to the affected area, reducing the pain and relieving muscle spasms. Use a heating pad on a medium setting to avoid burning the skin. Apply heat for no more than 20 to 30 minutes at a time, since constant heat for prolong periods can negatively impact organs in the abdominal area. Never sleep with a heating pad for relief of back pain.

3. Ice

Ice packs, or cold packs, are another part of your regimen for relief of back pain. Ice packs may be as simple as crushed ice wrapped in a towel. Or use an ice bag or professional ice pack. If neither is available, wrap a bag of frozen peas or corn in a towel. Ice works in an opposite manner from that of heat. Ice decreases blood vessel size, and reduces the flow of blood to the affected are. In doing this, cold reduces inflammation in the back, and provides relief of back pain. Avoid prolonged contact with cold packs. Instead, alternate heat and ice, 20 to 30 minutes each for maximum relief of back pain.

4. Exercise

Relief of back pain must include exercise, especially stretching exercises. Many people avoid exercise, but physicians recommend it highly for relief of back pain. Stretching exercises reduce stiffness in the back, and may relieve compression on the spine. In addition, you will strengthen the muscles while you are healing. Strong core muscles will help prevent future back trouble. Ask your doctor or therapist for exercises suited to your condition.

5. Massage

Massage is important for relief of back pain, whether it is administered by a professional therapist or by on of the available massage cushions. Massage can stimulate blood flow to the affected area. It can also relax the muscles, giving the desired relief of back pain.

6. OTC Medications

Over-the-counter (OTC) medications are also useful in relief of back pain. Choose analgesic medications such as aspirin or acetaminophen, both of which are intended for relief of back pain and other similar pain. You may also want to try OTC medications that are spread on the back. Ben Gay, Icy Hot, and Zostrix are examples of topical analgesics that give relief of back pain. If your back pain is accompanied by swelling, consider using non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDS) to reduce swelling and give further relief of back pain. Nonprescription NSAIDS include such medications as Advil, Motrin, Actron, Orudis, or Aleve. Check with your physician to be sure these will not react negatively with any prescriptions you may be taking.

CAUTION: If you continue to have pain after two to four weeks, please see your physician for relief of back pain. See your physician immediately if you have any of these other symptoms:

* Leg pain below the knee

* Leg or groin numbness

* Fever

* Nausea or vomiting

* Stomach pain

* Weakness

* Sweating

* Loss of control over bathroom functions

Sexual Problems In Relationships (2A) - Differing Gender Approaches

Both parties in any relationship, especially when the couples are older, bring a long sexual history, different instincts and preconceptions to the overall sexual experience. One partner may have masturbated almost daily since he first discovered his body and had fantasies of having intercourse with many different people. He might also have heard various stories about sex from friends, movies, parents, teachers, books etc., while the other partner may have been more sheltered and ignorant, or perhaps just stroked herself curiously without any sexual fantasies. Taken together, it means the likelihood of a big difference in self-knowledge and sexual confidence between any one couple.

According to one male writer, “Most inexperienced males imagine that really good sex consists of getting the woman partly undressed and then thrusting an enormous penis in and out of her vagina until they both explode simultaneously with a fantastic orgasm.” But nothing could be further from the truth. The fantasy ends there because of the many hurdles awaiting us before that final conclusion. Being preoccupied with penis size, many men believe that ‘the bigger the better’. But that is a definite myth.

Really great sex is not about penetration or penis size. It is more about what a man actually does with that penis when both partners are fully aroused. Our brain and our hands are far more erotic sexual tools than a penis on its own could ever hope to be! In fact, an inexperienced young woman is unlikely to be turned on by a penis at all and even less by its size! Until she understands and appreciates its usefulness, she may be scared of touching it and might even be repulsed by it, even though the man is likely to think that his penis is the greatest thing in the world, one which no woman can possibly do without!

Romance and the Trimmings

A woman is likely to be more stimulated by the emotion of the moment, the romance, the attention, the kisses, the caresses, the feeling of being wanted and being greatly appealing - difficult elements to label or put into words. Most women interviewed insist that warm, loving, emotional connections between themselves and their partners are essential to, and inseparable from, the experience of sexual ecstasy. Thus a well-romanced woman is a well-lubricated one and an explosion waiting to happen! This difference in sexual approach is the first misunderstanding between the two genders.

For this main reason, the first sexual encounters are usually fraught with danger. To begin with, most women view romance as the biggest turn-on to enjoying intercourse. As a prelude to any sex, a woman may fantasise about romantic settings in which she might be holding hands, talking, laughing, dancing, etc. Later on, the nice-looking, sweet-talking confident lover, with the great sense of humour (not the great penis!) admires her appeal and tells her about his feelings, his need for love, perhaps their future together, etc. She imagines being held tightly and kissed over and over, with perhaps some gentle caressing of various parts of her body. Eventually he undresses her and they have sex, but that isn’t the end of her story. After love-making, she imagines being held, comforted and told that sex has brought them even closer. She expects reassurance that she was an exciting sex partner and that he will now want to do many other routine things with her, not just desire her body!

The man in the same situation is likely to perceive it most differently, especially if he just wants to have ‘fun’ and fancies a ‘quick shag’. The fewer preliminaries, the better. Wining, dining and dancing are often regarded as necessary preludes that the man wants to conclude, sooner rather than later, in order to cut to the chase and get on with the action. Sex for women might be an integral part of an emotional connection, and take a long time to master, but many men do not necessarily need to put the two elements together for their satisfaction!

Can Disabled Dating Bring Hope?

“Can I have a girlfriend, teacher?” asked one of my students Iskandar. I looked at the boy and was speechless. I did not know whether I would be giving him false hope and unrealistic expectations or giving him more faith to believe for a better future.The school I was volunteering at were for kids who were mildly to moderately mentally handicapped mostly because of Down Syndrome. Iskandar was mildly handicapped and was just short of qualifying for the local school system. He was a very cheerful and polite boy and who is blessed with a loving and supportive family. Having a loving and supportive family and environment is critical for a disable person. It could make or break them.

The question from Iskandar had been in my heart for a long time even after I have stopped volunteering because of too many commitments in family, work and life. Should disabled people - be it physical or mental be encouraged to form dating relationships that could potentially lead to marriage? What positives can disabled dating bring?

Firstly, it’s not really a question of whether they can or not. Every person has the freedom to express their beliefs, ideas and passion. However, while all things are permissible, not everything is beneficial and careful and wise reflection should be given especially when such a question is posed to us by sincere individuals. Over the years, I have mingled and made friends with people who are visually and physically handicapped who try to fit in and live a “normal” life in society. Disabled dating is often the last thing on their mind because they are burdened with many worries - financial, relationship and health.

Come to think of it, they are definitely just like normal people just with different problems to deal with. Not to digress from the main purpose of this article, I would argue that every person always has some form of disability and the greatest disabilities are unseen rather than seen. A prideful, stubborn and lazy attitude is a terrible disability for example. A girl who had been sexually abused since young might carry emotional scars and wounds that could make her emotionally disabled and prevent her from ever having an authentic romantic relationship unless she receives healing and restoration within. So in a way, everyone experiences disabled dating because we all have our imperfections both physically and emotionally and our own unique set of problems.

However, for the sake of our readers, let us talk more about the practical pros and cons of disabled dating from the perspective of physical and mental disabilities. As mentioned earlier, everything is permissible but not everything is beneficial. A friend of mine has a relative (let’s give him the name “Joe”) who lost one of his leg in a car accident. Thankfully, Joe is a man of strong character, maturity and wisdom. He voluntarily left his managerial position although the company wanted him to stay badly and “create” some role to fit him in. He told me as we were hanging out one day,”I know who I am, Paul. I don’t want any free hand outs. Even with this leg gone, I can still create and add value for people in other ways.” I was moved, encouraged and inspired by his faith and sense of dignity. Joe is now an established consultant from the field he used to be a manager. He is also a savvy investor and is a partner of several small and medium enterprises. I admire his great and inspirational comeback.

“Disabled dating?” Joe looked at me and smiled. “Yes I do think about having a dating relationship sometimes.”

After the accident, Joe asked his fiancee to leave and to move on. I don’t know how he did it..but it must had been very painful.

“I know, Paul. It would definitely make life happier and more meaningful because you have a closer friend, a companion to share your life with,” said Joe. “But we’ve got to think further than that too you know. Everyone is free to pursue the relationship of their dreams and I encourage them to. Personally, I guess I think too much about the future. Because I believe that dating should be taken seriously and dating can lead to marriage and marriage is for life. If I become a father, who is going to play football with the kids? And in this wheel chair, I am more liable for accidents to happen at home and if something happens who will take care of the family?” Joe speaks passionately and it was obvious it was something close to his heart.

Well, I have met families where mum and dad are blind while the child isn’t. While these families often struggle financially because the parents can’t bring in substantial income, they are happy and they learn how to make it work. I admire them greatly and my heart goes out to all these people who DARE to love and to shoulder the responsibility of taking care of others. Disabled dating CAN bring hope. But you must have hope in yourself first! Because if the relationship doesn’t work out, like everyone else you will spiral down the hole of depression because you are not assured of your self worth and value.

I wish I could travel back to the moment when Iskandar asked me that question and give him a real answer rather than just silence. I would tell him “Iskandar, can you love someone and be committed to that person and take responsibility for that person for the rest of your life even if it doesn’t work out? You can be all that you have within yourself to be! Dream big and work hard to make all your dreams come true.”

To all in the disabled community, I thank you. Your life and your courage to continue living inspires the world. Keep looking at the possibilities and keep walking toward the dream that beats and pulsates within your heart. All the best.

Top Tips For Winning At The Seized Car Auction

Buying cars at government auctions has become more popular in the last several years, not only because you can get the cars cheaper, but because with the advent of the Internet, the seized car auctions have been thrust into the limelight. These auctions have been going on for many years, and perhaps you have heard about them for a long time, but they were generally not well known as far as their locations and times unless they were in your local area. Seized car auctions are put on by the government in order to get rid of their inventory of automobiles that were seized from people who violated the law in one way or another. This is great for you because you can sometimes pick up these seized vehicles for pennies on the dollar. Here are some tips to help you to find the seized car auctions and to win at them.

First you should know where the best auctions are located. Try calling your local government office to see if they can direct you, or check out your local newspaper to see if there are ads for the seized property auctions. There are also some great websites out there that will list all of the government auctions so that you can choose which ones you would like to attend. You should be familiar with the Kelly Blue Book price on these cars, and if you aren’t then take the time to get familiar with them. Generally the seized auto auctions open a couple of days early to give the bidders time to inspect the vehicles up close. Write down vin numbers and mileage so that you can check them out with a service such as Carfax.

By being diligent and, of course, knowing where these auctions are located not only can you be present at these auctions, but you can actually win the car of your dreams.

Seized Vehicle Auctions and repossessed items on auctions are now listed on our website at http://www.carbuyingfacts.info/
