Improve Direct Mail Response Rates With Promotional Products

Direct mail has been proven an effective marketing technique that generates new business. The same is true for promotional products. A number of research studies have shown that giving away promotional items augments a company’s clientele base significantly. As both are important strategies in the marketing of a business, many are now combining these two approaches for an even more successful outcome. Promotional products, when paired with a piece of direct mail, can greatly increase direct mail response rates. Experts say that sending a promotional product along with a piece of direct mail can increase the response rate by as much as 50 percent.

One real life case study involves a local mortgage company in a particular city. In the past, this certain company had utilized the methods of direct mail only. However, after learning about the maximum benefits associated with combining direct mail strategies with promotional products, a change was to be made. This certain mortgage company worked with a promotional consultant to create the ideal scenario and include both strategies in the same campaign. In addition, this business was already effectively incorporating the use of a mailing list, which the firm’s in-house marketing director had created. The results of the previous attempts of direct mail submissions were to be compared with the new approach of giving away promotional items along with the sales letters.

Each recipient on the mailing list received a personalized letter advertising a certain interest rate and explaining the details and legal restrictions that were involved. The material was time-sensitive and the packaging indicated so. The letter welcomed potential clients to make plans to purchase their first home, to refinance their existing home, or to upgrade into that house that they had been dreaming of. In addition to the sales letter the local mortgage company had composed, members of the marketing team also enclosed a small, easily mailable promotional item that fit easily into the package and didn’t add extreme costs to the postal fees. Small pads of paper in the shape of a house were an added bonus. Imprinted on the pads of paper was the complete contact information for the mortgage company including the names of the owners, web site URL, phone number, address, and hours of operation. Potential clients received the invitation to respond to the special offer via the direct mail piece, as well as a free gift item- one that was extremely simple, but one that could also be useful for taking notes during their mortgage process. The results were better than expected. This mortgage company noted a forty percent increase in the response rate of their efforts using both the direct mail sales letter in conjunction with the free promotional item.

Remember these helpful suggestions when organizing your next direct mail campaign.

–Give your prospective clients a reason to respond. Involve a brand new incentive, or a special discount. Tell them about a new program.
–Choose a promotional item to send that mails easily. Gift cards are an excellent example. Offer potential customers a few free ring tones for their cellular phones. Giveway a free Itunes song. Other mailable promotional products include magnets, bookmarks, wide shaped pens, letter openers, mouse pads, and pads of paper.
–Remember also the demographics involved with those you desire to reach. If you are targeting first time homeowners, connect your promotional products to this group’s age group, values, beliefs, and economic status. Also consider relating your promotional items to a certain theme. If you are promising to save your potential clients money on their down payments, choose an item that will express this. For instance, you could imprint a money clip with your business’ logo and contact information.
–Have a time-sensitive offer. Give your recipients a deadline by which to respond.

Many businesses have used direct mail strategies because of the powerful marketing technique that it is. It can reach new clients and generate new business. Similarly, other companies give away promotional products for their advertising. Experts have shown statistics indicating that both of these marketing strategies are very effective in increasing customers and sales in a company. Doubling these tactics can take your business to the next level. Have you considered combining these two approaches for an even more successful outcome? Pairing promotional products with direct mail sales letters increases customer response rates. Experts say that sending a promotional product along with a piece of direct mail can increase the response rate by as much as 50 percent.

Stock Picks 101 How to Become a Successful Trader By Treating Your Trading Activities as a Business

Trading should be treated like any other business; that is, you are trying to maximize your return on investment. In trading, your “inventory” is the cash balance of your brokerage account. Using this cash balance, you try to “manufacture” a return on your investment.

Of course, to begin with, you need to have experience recognizing profitable trading situations. Unfortunately, there is no good way to do this in the real world other than to have enough trades under your belt to gain that experience. Therefore, it’s highly recommended that you practice trading using a virtual account, or play account, before you go “live.” Most brokerages provide such “play” accounts. Like any business, you want to make sure you have the basic techniques of the business down before you dive into it.

Fair warning: if you start trading with real money before you have a good, solid feel for your unique trading style, it is quite possible you’ll lose your entire “inventory” (that is to say, cash balance), before you have developed enough expertise to be successful. Although everyone is different, typically it takes hundreds, even thousands, of trades before you can expect to develop real expertise. Depending on trading style, this will usually take months, if not years, to achieve.

Therefore, one of your initial investments needs to be the time to come up the learning curve before you actually put real money to work for you. Otherwise you will be in danger of failing before you even have a chance to really become successful.

Before you enter a trade you should have a clear idea of the risk-reward ratio and the potential return on your trade. Of course, because you are dealing with a statistical process with many unknowns, you will need to make educated guesses as to what this potential risk-reward ratio might be. This presumes you have a certain level of expertise at calculating risk-reward ratios. In most cases, again, this can only be achieved through experience.

Another important aspect of any business is proper record keeping and performance evaluation. Again, fair warning: if you’re not keeping a trade diary that includes all the particulars about when you entered the trade, how many contracts or shares you bought, the reason for entering the trade and the outcome of the trade, you’re setting yourself up for failure. It’s also extremely helpful to make notes about your psychological and physical state as you enter trades; that is to say, are you refreshed, are you tired, are you in an upbeat mood, are you concerned or in a pessimistic mood? All these factors should be carefully noted.

Later, as you go back over your trading diary and evaluate performance, you may notice that there are certain conditions under which you simply should not be trading. This information is invaluable. You may also find that there are certain trading intervals and types of trades that you do better at than others. This should also shape your trading plan. You may also find that you do better with some trading vehicles than with others. Some people are naturals at stock picks; others do better with options. Or you may be a futures or a forex kind of person.

Trading is a very difficult profession because you’re constantly dealing with a large number of unknowns. Dealing with conflicting and contradictory information is inherently stressful. The more you can do to minimize your stress, the higher your chance of succeeding before you’re inclined to give up, or before you lose your trading account.

Another thing to keep in mind is that trading can be a very solitary activity. You may want to find a select group of other traders to either physically or, more likely, virtually meet over the internet. This should be a group you feel comfortable with bouncing ideas around and with whom you can generally develop camaraderie. Being a member of such a group helps tremendously with maintaining your perspective and making sure you don’t get lost in a funk. Keep in mind that we are indeed social beings and that working alone may not be good for your mental health.

If you keep the foregoing tips in mind as you begin your trading career, the chances of being successful in it increase immeasurably. You need all the advantages you can get when you start trading so you have the highest chance of succeeding.

However, the rewards of being a successful trader are what make it all worthwhile. You will have the flexibility of working from whatever location you choose as long as it’s conducive to a trading mindset. This can make trading a dream of a profession. Paradoxically, you can gain security by trading on the uncertainty of others.

Best of luck in your chosen career of being a trader.

Alcohol Cravings - Which Food Reduces Your Desire To Drink? Part One

Recent studies show that eating certain foods can support a reduce alcohol intake. That’s right, it is possible to reduce your alcohol cravings by changing your diet. The most important change you can make to reduce the desire to drink is eating more raw food; this means more fruit and vegetables.

Recently I read about a study that showed a nutrient-dense diet of 60 - 70% raw foods can eliminate cravings for alcohol. A 1985 study put 32 people with high blood pressure on a 6-month diet which included 60 - 70% raw food. This diet succeeded in lowering their blood pressure and balancing blood cholesterol and blood fats. However the researchers also discovered that 80% of those who regularly drank alcohol abstained without suggestion or encouragement. A similar percentage of smokers also quit.

When I started eating mostly raw foods I gradually found myself drinking less and less alcohol. Previously I had been working as a restaurant chef and I’d have a beer or a wine most evenings after work. Often I had a couple more drinks when I got home! I wouldn’t say I was addicted (who does?!) but I did have a well-entrenched habit of regular drinking. When we started eating more raw food I didn’t have any intention to stop drinking alcohol completely; wine is a actually a raw, fermented product, which I continued to enjoy occasionally. But I found myself becoming less and less interested.

Many other studies have shown that alcohol craving is associated with poor nutrition. Nutritional support is essential part of any programme for long-term recovery from alcohol addiction. The best way to get a boost in nutrients is from a high raw food diet with plenty of fresh vegetables and fruit. A close friend believes that eating plenty of bean sprouts helped him give up smoking cigarettes - and he lost interest in alcohol at the same time!

A 60 % raw food diet is easy achieve with inspiration, support and ways to make fresh fruit and vegetables tasty and delicious! There are thousands of raw food recipes available on the internet and in cookbooks. The variety of sweet and savoury dishes will amaze and motivate you. Your kitchen skills will be transformed and rejuvenated!

What is a healthy level of alcohol consumption?

Alcohol is a central feature of leisure time, celebrations, sporting events and holidays for most people. We seem to share an unspoken belief that there’s more talk, laughter, dancing and relaxation when our gatherings include “a few drinks”. We may often refer to alcohol as a “social lubricant”, hardly considering the detrimental affects.

From a physical health point of few it’s clear that low to moderate consumption of alcohol is not necessarily harmful. There has been much publicity (and toasting!) of recent studies that tell us a glass or two of red wine a day can actually have long-term beneficial affects. Personally I know I wouldn’t feel as energetic, alive and happy if I drank alcohol every day - I generally drink a glass of wine once or twice a week, at most.

Sadly, there many drink way more than one or two drinks a day. The health affects of this are serious. Excessive alcohol consumption is a significant risk factor for high blood pressure, heart disease, some types of cancer, and Type 2 diabetes. Long-term problems include digestive disorders and irreparable damage to the brain, liver, intestines and pancreas.

See Part Two of this article on Alcohol Cravings and find out why malnourishment, hypoglycemia and coffee increase desire for a drink. Plus get a list of the top foods for reducing alcohol cravings.

Why Leaders Fail

In the recent past, the world has witnessed the fall of great leaders in religion, politics, business and sports. One day they are admired and supported and the next day they are ridiculed and abandoned. Of course you as a leader would like to think that that would never happen to you, your organisation, your business or your family. Yet the truth is that previous great leaders of the past were human just like you and me.

Listed are 4 warning signs you can look out for that can lead to failure as a leader.

1. Shift of Focus. Leaders by nature are driven and motivated. These are great qualities but failure occurs when a leader looses site of what is important. This can happen very easily. Maybe they get caught up in micro managing every area of the organisation and they get consumed with the trivial and unimportant aspects of the business. This tendency can be worsened because by nature, many leaders like to do things well, border line perfectionism. If a leader is trying to manage all aspects of the business and lead at the same time, they are sure to get side tracked from the long term goals.

Action Step: Take the time today to realign your focus. Reread your business plan or goals and refocus on what is important.

2. Poor Communication. Followers cannot follow somebody that is unsure of where they are going. When a leader looses site of the main focus, they lose site of where they are going. Effective communication is so much easier when you know what you actually want to say.

Action Step: Be absolutely clear about what you want to convey to your followers or core team in the area you are in leadership.

3. Poor Self Management. While leadership is great, it can be tiring, draining and exhausting. Most people will not pick up on signs of exhaustion in a leader. As a leader, it is vital that you take care of yourself emotionally, physically, psychologically and spiritually.

Action Step: When you feel you are stressed or running on empty in any area, take time out for yourself to be refreshed and refuelled.

4. Driven by fear of failure. Being driven is a quality every leader needs, but what drives you is what is important. If the desire to succeed is what is driving you, then you will willingly take risks. But when fear of failure is the driving force, it makes risk taking so much more difficult.

Action Step: Take a good honest look at what you are driven by. Great leaders are never afraid to take a risk.

As you consider these four warning signs of leadership failure, do not be afraid to take an honest look at yourself. If any of the warnings ring true, take action today! The good news is that by paying attention to these signs and heeding their warnings, you can avoid disaster and sustain the kind of leadership that is healthy and fulfilling both for yourself and your followers.

Buying Your First Hobby Farm

There are many aspects to consider when buying your first Hobby Farm.

How far is it from the nearest public transport? Now you may not think this matters too much, if you are giving up your jobs to “go on the land”. This can have a huge impact on your outcome. What happens if your dreams of being self sufficent don’t work out. Someone in the family is going to have to find work.

Okay, okay, you have two cars, you don’t need the public transport system. You can get there under your own steam. Well, what if you decided that the way to bring in more money was to run a B & B. How do your prospective guests get there. Yes, most people do have a car, but some like the elderly do not and rely heavily on public transport to get to where they are going. That could be a source of revenue, you have just eliminated.

What are the roads like? Sealed or dirt. If dirt, do they have bridges that flood. Does that pretty creek down the bottom of your property near the front gate ever flood? If so, and you are wanting to transport stock to market, how do you get through. In fact, how on earth do you get to town for food?

Can you cope with being cut off from everyone if it floods? Do you keep a well stocked larder. You will need to. You would need to have either tinned, preserved or frozen food that you can rely on. Otherwise, you may have a house cow that gives you milk, cream and butter, some chooks that give you eggs and quantities of flour to make bread with. Some staples like spreads in the pantry and meat and vegetables in the freezer, you will be able to survive, quite well.

These are just some of the questions you need to ask yourself. If you have fallen in love with the place, then you won’t consider any of these problems. However, if you are going off to buy a place, then there should be a check list of things that the place must have and things you really CAN’T cope with.

One really critical one is does it have plenty of water. Bore, rainwater tanks, dams etc. This may not be as crucial if you are in a high rainfall area.

Try not to buy a parcel of land that you have to travel through another persons property to get to your front gate. Everything could be great in the beginning but if people fall out, it can get ugly. We have seen where large logs have been put across the entrance gate to stop people going through. Some have padlocked the gate and the people couldn’t get in to their home. Not very nice and certainly doesn’t lead to a happy carefree existence that you may have dreamed of by going to the country.

How to Make a Fortune in Gold Playing World of Warcraft

Ever play World of Warcraft and find yourself short on cash the second the first decent epic gets listed on the AH? You’re not alone. Gold sellers are making hundreds of millions per year selling to players just like you. Do you really want to trade real cash for fake gold? I don’t, which is why I make my fellow players buy me anything I want. How? I use the AH to line my pockets 24 hours a day.

Using my simple strategy, anyone can make a few hundred gold per week, if not per day. Here’s how I did it: First I created a mule/twink and sent her to Org. I then sent her some cash from my main, which was 100 gold to start with. Since I didn’t have much, I needed to make money on small fry stuff. Most people who play the market buy up greens, blues, and purples and then reprice them. Sure, you can make some money, but only if someone who wants the exact item you have happens to be looking for it at the exact time you have it listed, and, if no one else has undercut you. Do you really want to tie up all your cash in Troll’s Bane Leggings or a Zealot Blade hoping a twinker will buy it?

The easier way is to corner the market on things people have to have. For this example we’ll use cloth. Linen and wool are easy targets. At lower levels, most of it is consumed with bandage making, and even more of it is sitting in player’s inventories waiting to be vendored. What’s left is listed on the AH. Here’s where your cash comes in; you run the market buying everything up below a certain price, which in this example will be one gold. Keep soaking it up until the cheap stuff is gone and you have a decent supply. Don’t blow all your cash, as you’ll need it to defend your position when other sellers try and undercut you.

Now that you have a few bags full of wool, it’s time to list on the AH. You paid one gold and below for your supply, so taking into account listing fees and the auction house cut, you need to price it at a point which will help you make a decent profit. I like trying for a double on wool, which is two gold per stack. I buy everything in sight for one gold, and then list it at two. Every time some gets listed at one, I buy it. When buyers come in looking for wool stacks, they can’t get any cheap stuff, as I am buying it all. This forces them to start taking out all the stacks between where I am buying and where I am selling. Once that is gone, they have to buy mine.

While is seems like you can just list it and walk away, to make serious money you need to constantly check your positions in the AH. If there is a seller who seems to have an unlimited supply, keep buying it up. Stacks of wool take time to collect. He’ll run out of stacks long before you run out of cash. Most likely, the sellers who are dumping it cheap will start to sell for a higher price out of sheer greed. This helps drive up prices, which helps get them closer to your supply of two gold stacks.

After I doubled my money on wool, and forced the market up so the cheap stuff was no longer available for me to re-supply, I moved up to silk, mageweave, runecloth, and then netherweave cloth. Over the course of a month I was able to take my main from 60-70 and make right around 5,000 gold on my market twink. By this time, my twink actually was a twink due to my snapping up level 19 twink gear cheap.

This is a really simple strategy which can be employed to almost anything on the AH that is in constant demand. Primals, essences, enchanting dusts, leather, etc. Just make sure you pick something easy to start with. Lastly, treat the AH like you would a BG. You are there to make money, not friends. Don’t tell people who your twink is if you don’t want them hitting you up for loans or items. You’re just setting yourself up for constant /w from people, or worse, making yourself a target to get hacked.

Snore Stoppers - Using Technology to Stop Snoring

Snoring can be one of those habits that is very painful… to your rib cage! Does your partner elbow your ribs throughout the night to get you to turn over or move positions so that you stop snoring? Not only are you tired from lack of oxygen from the fact that you are snoring but your partner keeps waking you up also. Talk about a double whammy! This is an old malady shouldn’t there be new technology to take care of this annoying problem. Well let’s take a look…

Well of course there is the CPAP or Continuous Positive Airway Pressure device. This device blows air onto your upper airway to prevent them from collapsing and making the awful noise. It does work to stop snoring. The problem is that it has to be fitted by a doctor and costs a small fortune. Some people also find it difficult to wear at night because it covers your nose and mouth.

In 1990 a new laser surgery technique called Laser-Assisted Uvula Palatoplasty or LAUP was introduced. Exciting technology using CO2 lasers to treat snoring! It did this by using the laser to reduce the size of the uvula and soft palate thus reducing obstruction and reducing the noise level of the snorer. The problem was scar tissue that formed afterwards; in fact, many times the snoring was made worse by around a year after the surgery. There are other surgeries now using similar technologies that produce decent results, but scarring is always a problem.

There is a method using sound levels and lights - there are many different products out there using this method. The electronic device monitors for sound waves similar to snoring and then flashes lights just long enough and bright enough to stir you a little to teach you to stop snoring. Two problems with this device, one is that it may recognize other sounds as snoring and stir you needlessly, thus not really teaching your body not to snore. The other problem is that it stirs your partner as well.

Another device called the Snore Ender uses a biosensor feedback mechanism to detect snoring then it uses vibrations to stimulate your body to tighten throat muscles or change your position while you sleep to end the snoring. This teaches your body to eventually stop snoring all together. This product shows some promise, but in many cases the vibrations are not enough to stimulate a change in the behavior.

One of the newest technologies called the Snore Stopper is similar to the one above, it uses a similar biofeedback mechanism to detect the early stages of snoring. It is worn on the wrist and when snoring is detected it sends a gentle micro-pulse of electricity (NO it does not zap you!) that stimulates the muscles of the throat to contract thus ceasing snoring. This device teaches the individual how not to snore and does so in a couple of weeks. Out of the high tech technologies available to help stop snoring this seems to be the one with the best results. However it is fairly new to the market and only time will tell if it really works.
