Tutankhamun’s Exhibition is due to return to London in November 2007 after an absence of more than 30 years. Over 1.7 million people visited the exhibition when it last appeared in 1972 but these figures are sure to be surpassed with more than 130 treasures on show. The artifacts are all between 3,000 and 3,500 years old and include 50 from the actual tomb of Tutankhamun. London is bracing itself for the arrival of hundreds of thousands of visitors who will arrive in the city from all over the world to view the priceless Egyptian treasures.

British archaeologist Howard Carter, who was excavating for his patron Lord Carnarvon, discovered the surprisingly well-preserved tomb of Tutankhamun in 1922 that created a sensation throughout the world. It was the only tomb of its era that had been found intact and full of treasures. This amazing discovery, along with rumours of a mysterious curse, helped make Tutankhamun the most popular of the Egyptian pharaohs in the modern world. It took a decade to catalogue, remove and conserve the thousands of items in the small tomb.

Two stillborn baby girls were found in Tutankhamun’s tomb. They had been mummified and placed in tiny coffins. The hair, eyelashes and eyeballs were still preserved. They are thought to be the offspring of Tutankhamun and his wife, who miscarried at five and seven months.

The tomb still contains the pharaoh’s remains today although they are hidden from view inside the outermost of three coffins. The two innermost coffins are currently on display at the Cairo Museum in Egypt, while the outermost one still holds the mummy of Tutankhamun and resides in his tomb in the Valley of the Kings. As far as historians are aware, Tutankhamun is the only pharaoh still residing in the Valley of the Kings. The tomb itself is very small and appears to have been destined for someone of lesser importance. Tutankhamun’s unexpected early death saw the tomb modified very quickly to accommodate the pharaoh.

After discovering the tomb, Carter concluded that it had been broken into twice soon after the pharaoh had been buried. After both break-ins officials of the necropolis resealed the tomb. Fortunately, the tomb robbers did not steal a great amount of the hidden treasures and many of the artifacts buried with Tutankhamun may now be viewed in Cairo’s Egyptian Museum with a few of the items in Luxor Museum.

The Tutankhmun London Exhibition is open from 15 November 2007 until 30 August 2008 and is to be held in the O2, Greenwich London. Tickets for individuals and groups of less than 10 go on sale in September 2007. Parking at the O2 is available for 2,200 cars.

If your dog or cat has suddenly lost it’s appetite, take it to the vet ASAP! Menu Foods of Ontario Canada has issued a major pet food recall of 48 brands of dog food and 40 brands of cat food, including such well known brands as Eukanuba, Iams and Nutro. Ten pets have dies already at the hands of this mystery contaminate. Authorities and vets do not know what is in the food that is making the animals sick, but so far pets have been dying of kidney failure. One of the first symptoms is a sudden loss of appetite. Parrot Cages

Just as parrots come in many sizes, parrot cages vary from small to large. They come in rectangles and cylinders, plain and fancy. Parrot cages can be difficult to purchase, and the savvy buyer will do research before attempting to do so. Four of the factors to be considered are given here, but you will want to discuss your final purchase with a knowledgeable dealer.

1. Parrot Breed and Size

The breed and size of your parrot figure strongly in the consideration of available parrot cages.

Large birds need sufficient space to stretch big wings, climb around, and enjoy healthy exercise. Large parrot cages are needed for parrots in the size range of African Grey Parrots, Amazons, Cockatoos, and Macaws. Large parrot cages should be made of steel or metal, and have a bar spacing of one or more inches. Any smaller spacing in large parrot cages will permit your parrot to get caught and injure itself.

Medium parrot cages are good for medium size parrots such as Caiques, Cockatiels, Conures, and Senegals. Medium parrot cages should have steel or metal bars spaced 1/2 to 5/8 inch apart. Parrot cages with larger or smaller bar spacing may allow your bird to be injured.

If you have a small parrot such as a Budgerigar (Budgie), Lovebird, or Parrotlet, you will need to look at small parrot cages. Small parrot cages also should be of steel or metal, since all parrots love to chew. Bar spacing should be 1/2 inch or less in small parrot cages.

2. Configuration

The configuration of parrot cages is the size and shape. Since parrots like to climb and fly, parrot cages need to be tall. Even the most basic, small parrot cages should be at least 7-8 inches taller than their width and depth. Dome tops are functional as well as attractive in parrot cages. The parrot will amuse itself climbing across the dome. Wide cages are important for larger parrots, as they will need to fly back and forth. While some parrot cages are built to resemble castles or Victorian homes, complete with turrets, one must be sure the decor does not involve sharp edges or small corners where a parrot can injure feet or beak.

3. Accessories

Accessories can go a long way toward making parrot cages “loverly” in the parrot’s thinking. Stands raise parrot cages to a higher level, allowing the bird to see more, and feel more a part of the “flock” in your home. Stands also give owners better access to their parrots. For parrots that crave more attention, parrot cages on wheeled stands can be moved from room to room.

Parrot cages can also be topped with exercise areas, providing entertainment and exercise when the parrot is out for play. Swings, ladders, toys, steps, and more can be included in playgrounds.

The feeder cups in parrot cages should be easily accessible, and should be made of steel, ceramic, or reinforced plastic. Parrots will chew on the cups as part of their exercise, and can readily destroy other materials.

Parrot cages require at least three different perches, each made of a different material. Rope, hardwood, and cement are three possibilities. Proper perches are important to the health of your parrot’s feet.

Cage covers are important additions to parrot cages, allowing your bird to get the right dark and light cycle to get sufficient rest.

4. Toys

Finally, all parrot cages will need convenient places to attach toys - and entertaining toys to be attached. Like parrot cages, parrot toys come in different sizes and materials to suit the breed of parrot. Parrot toys do not have to be elaborate. Toys may entertain, and may stimulate your bird intellectually, but their main purpose is to help parrots use the actions they would use in the wild. Toys help them “hunt” food, hide in the “leaves” of a tree, and exercise their beaks to keep them strong.

Toys in parrot cages can be for their feet, giving them foot exercise that helps them maintain dexterity. Toys may be filled with food that parrots must retrieve, chewing away obstacles as they would in the wild. Small mirrors in parrot cages allow the birds to converse with “friends” in the same tree.

Learn as much as you can about your parrot breed, and ask for appropriate toys that will meet the bird’s varied needs.

Over the past weekend I used EFT several times a day to completely alleviate the swollen gland, which promised to evolve into a hefty flu. I used EFT whenever the swollen glad was especially painful. I also used it whenever a negative emotion arose, because I know from experience that sinking into frustration, drowsiness or anxiety weakens my immunity further. What amazed me was that whenever I tapped the symptoms reduced. As the emotion departed the physical symptoms lessened.
EFT allows you to be creative, so when I realised that a small part, albeit very small, of me was actually wanting to get sick, I asked myself why, and realised that in the past I have used being sick to have time off or to get affection. After tapping regularly, the sore throat departed over two days and I felt great. This was a real shift for me, as usually I’d feel worse after the swollen gland. I could feel my body removing the infection effectively, without the added stress of negative emotion.

Street Magic has become extremely popular in recent years due to David Blaine’s hit street magic television series and is growing hotter and hotter with recent magicians such as Criss Angel and Cyril Takayama. Previously, street magic was only known within a “community” of magicians and the secrets were passed on from person to person. Now, with the advent of the internet and television, anyone, and I mean anyone, no matter how old or young, can learn street magic effortlessly, quickly and inexpensively.

What are the advantages of learning street magic? Here are a few of the benefits:

Buy a Deck of Bikes
The foundation of street magic lies in ordinary playing cards. Some of the most incredible street magic effects are performed with a simple deck of cards. As a beginning magician, it is absolutely necessary to learn a few basic card tricks. Bicycles are the best playing cards in my opinion. They are durable, comfortable and easy to handle. Get a deck of cards and become comfortable with them- practice shuffling, cutting, dealing etc. When you can handle the cards comfortable, learn a few basic card tricks. They don’t have to David Blaine type street magic card tricks; you can learn a simple kiddie trick or two. What’s important is you get a feel for handling cards.

Purchase a few Tricks
The truth is- the best street magic effects are not free. The creator has put months and even years of hard work in creating the effect. If you see a trick that blows your mind, write it down on a piece of paper and find out more about it. Be sure to read reviews of the trick. Ultimately, make a decision based on your gut reaction to the trick and what you have read about it.

An alternative to buying single tricks is buying “starter” sets, DVDs and books with many tricks, designed specifically for beginners. Perfecting your Sleights
The key to success in performing street magic is practice. Practice the moves slowly, step-by-step. After a while your hands will naturally become accustomed to the motion and speed will come on its own. Here’s a great checklist when practicing any street magic trick: This is a check list that I use whenever I think I am ready to perform a sleight.

1. Are there any fingers that jerk or jump?
2. Do the fingers that should stay stationary stay stationary?
3. Does anything make a noise when it should not?
4. Is the get-ready for the move well covered?
5. If it is supposed to look like something else, is it identical to that?
6. Can you perform it even if people are burning your hands?
7. Can you do it without looking at the deck?
8. Is there any stop in the movement / does it flow?
9. Is your hands/arms relaxed?
10. Do you move your body when you perform it?
11. Did you practice the sleight in the actual effect? Is it flowing with the routine/effect and the presentation?

If the sleight is angel sensitive, ask yourself: Can it be done…

1. When the audience is looking at it from the very front?
2. When the audience is looking at it from the right?
3. When the audience is looking at it from the left?
4. When the audience is looking at it from the top?
5. When you are standing up and the audience is sitting down?
6. When you are sitting down and the audience is standing up?
7. When there you are sitting at a table?

If not,
1. Do you have a method to cover those angles?
2. Do you have a way of not letting people view from those angles?

Performing Street Magic
Even with hours of practice, performing to an actual audience can be tough. I have been performing magic for about 8 years, and I still get nervous whenever I perform. Here are a few things I do to calm myself down: Breathe deep and slowly-you can even build this into the initial stages of a routine, e.g. blowing on a card to change it, using a long magic word etc. This will slow the heart rate and make you feel calmer .If you have shakes, tap your feet and the shakes will soon go away! Also, use big broad sweeping gestures. Before you perform, visualize as clearly as you can what you are going to do. When under stress the brain shuts down to a large extent and you have to rely on visual memory retained in the upper spinal column. Clear visualization will help to stop you freezing/forgetting what to do.
