How To Train Herding And Working Dog Breeds

Herding and working dogs are actually two different categories in the American Kennel Club but have only been divided into the two groups since 1983. Previously the herding group was included in the working group category since these groups have many of the same traits and attributes. Both groups have been bred to work closely with humans and to be good, solid and dependable companion dogs.

Working Breeds

In generally the working breeds tend to be large dogs that have been bred to pull carts, pull sleds, guard and even perform various rescues. Breeds in the working group include:

  • Akitas
  • Bernese Mountain Dogs
  • Boxers
  • Bullmastiffs
  • Great Danes
  • Doberman Pinchers
  • Great Pyrenees
  • Newfoundland
  • Rottweiler
  • St. Bernard
  • Siberian Husky

There are also several other breeds including the amazing Komondor, known for its long, ringlet style coat. All of these breeds of dogs are large, usually weighing in excess of 60 pounds, with many of the larger males reaching over 150 pounds when full grown.

When working with these working dogs it is important to note that they are generally very gentle dogs although them may be aggressive or possessive around strangers. Dogs such as the Akita that has been bred to both hunt and protect will need additional socialization and training at an early age to prevent aggressive tendencies as they mature. These dogs need to be very obedient simply because they are so large and could potentially hurt someone even by simply jumping up. Usually very easy to train they require consistent and firm training with lots of positive praise and attention.

Generally these dogs will be natural watchdogs although they are not necessarily effective guard dogs. Some, such as the Doberman Pincher and the Rottweiler are excellent as both watch and guard dogs with the proper training. Professional trainers can be very effective in training and working with guard dogs.

For best results when training herding & working dogs, proper rest is important. Since most breeds of this type are pretty big, try an extra large dog bed for added comfort. Good styles are available at Oh My Dog Supplies.

Surgical And Non Surgical Facelift

The mentality has changed and people now think that a facelift is not just for the rich and famous. Today facelifts are one of the most well-accepted and most frequently performed cosmetic procedures in the world and with this surgical operation one lifts up the facial tissues and skin and/or the underlying muscle, in order to have a tighter and smoother face. A facelift can really reduce saggy skin and wrinkles and produce a more alert and youthful appearance. Several factors contribute to the final result of the facelift and they are the reason every facelift is different.

If your skin is still elastic and tight, but you are concerned with sagging or excess fat in you face or under the chin, facial liposuction can be very good option. The skin is then lifted outward and the underlying tissues and muscles are tightened and fixed. Sagging skin is simply the effect of gravity over time and seems to affect the face more noticeably as it cannot be concealed by makeup. With an incision behind the hairline running over the top of the head, the skin is gently pulled upwards, the eyebrows along with it, and set into a new position. And at the same time, excess fat and skin can be removed.

When it comes to cosmetic surgery we realize that it is a big decision and it can have a big impact on a person’s life. There are a number of preparations to be made and don’t forget to have a picture taken before the operation so that the results of surgery can be compared with your new appearance. The facial rejuvenation surgery has a goal and that is to restore both men and women with a more youthful contour to your face and neck.

A facelift operation starts with a local anesthesia, or a general anesthesia. Incision often starts from the ear to behind the ear and ends near the hairline behind the ear. After the incision, undermining is done and that is separating the facial skin from the underlying tissue below the neck, chin and cheeks using scalpel and scissors. Then the facial suspension system are tightened with stitches and the skin is pulled backwards and upwards to the required extent. The skin is then tightened with stitches and the underlying excess tissue may or may not be removed. Excess skin is removed and the incisions are closed with sutures.

As opposed to conventional facelifts, which can result into undesirable scars and a plastic look, the weekend facelift leads to a natural, rejuvenated appearance without any visible scars or the look of major surgery. This means the procedure can be kept totally private if desired and the weekend facelift is usually performed on an outpatient basis, with the surgery lasting one hour or less.

Also, one of the best features of this procedure is that it will allow you to return to work the same day you receive treatment. The main goal of a facelift procedure is to give you a fresher and younger look, preserving her/his natural characteristics, unless the patient has some reasons to change the natural look too.

Is Your Dog Happy With That Store-Bought Processed Dog Food?

The health and happiness of our dogs is of upmost importance to dog owners. But how can you help your dog to be healthy? One of the easiest ways is to avoid processed dog food.

Most dog food is highly processed. What you can usually buy at the pet store or grocery store is highly processed food. Even premium and prescription dog food is usually highly processed. People know that food that is processed isn’t as healthy for you and that it doesn’t taste as good. Well, the same is true of dog food.

So if you want to avoid highly processed dog food, what are your options? Many pet stores are starting to carry natural food. While these may be more expensive, they give you peace of mind because you know that the food is good for your dog. As an added benefit, for your dog at least, the food probably tastes better too.

Another option is to make your own dog food. Recipes for dog food run from basic to gourmet. Basic recipes require a minimal amount of ingredients and require only a few minutes to prepare. Some of the more gourmet recipes are a little more expensive and (quite frankly) sound so appetizing that you may consider eating them yourself.

Keep your dog happy and healthy. Try to avoid processed dog food. Buying natural food is one option. Another option, which can be the most cost effective, is to find recipes and make food for your dog on your own.

Lead Generation System Secrets of a Lead Generation Coach - Part 2

A Lead Generation System can be split in 5 key areas…

1. Set your objectives
2. Allocate your time and budget
3. Select your marketing approach
4. Test

5. Evaluate

1. Setting Objectives.

The first part of creating your Lead Generation System is to set your objectives. One of the best ways to decide upon what your objectives are going to be, is to do a marketing audit, to identify what has already worked, what hasn’t worked, what your marketing achievements have been, identify your disappointments, what you’ve learned, and what you are going to do differently over the next 12 months.

2. Allocating your time and budget.

The next part of your lead generation system is to decide on a budget and schedule that you dedicate to your marketing. Many people tend to view marketing as an expense instead of an investment, and most businesses know how many sales they need, but very few actually know how many leads they need. Ironically, this is what they’re marketing is spent on - generating leads. There is a very useful formula for working this out -

a) What income do you require per week
b) What is the profit per sale/transaction you offer
c) Divide a) by b) to give you the number of sales you need
d) Decide on what your closing ratio has been and is (e.g. 1:2, 1:5, 1:10)
e) Multiply c) by d) to determine the number of leads you need
f) You will know how much available marketing spend you have, so simply divide that by e)
to determine how much per lead you can sensibly afford to spend.

3. Selecting a marketing approach

Your Lead Generation System can utilise a number of methods for generating leads.

So the question is….

Which approach do you use first?

The answer is revealed in part 1 of the process - do what has worked previously for you. If however cashflow is good, and you have calculated your available budget and schedule using the very simple formula outlined in part 2. You may wish to test one or two new approaches on a limited basis, before deciding on which method to “roll out”.

4. Testing

Many people have a lead generation system that utilises just one marketing approach…what happens if that channel, tactic, or strategy fails for whatever reason? They have to try a new approach. (Even “Networking” as a channel has lots and lots of indirect and hidden marketing costs that people tend to forget about - train fares, tube fares, taxis, coffees (Lates, mocha and espressos which ever one you choose) , lunches, Beer, chardonnay…it all adds up and drains your cashflow. )

How cost effective (and successful) is your current marketing strategy?

There are 3 fundamental errors people tend to make when testing a new marketing approach.

They focus on what they OFFER the client.

They focus on what they DO for the client

They focus on THEMSELVES - not the client.

Whichever Marketing approach you test, ensure you rigidly stick to this simple formula -

a) Identify your target market and audience - and build a prospective client “profile”
b) Ensure you have a list of client problems that you know you can address
c) Ensure you know your product or solution that you are offering your clients
d) Have a clearly defined pricing strategy to help your casfhlow whilst the bigger deals take time to “land” and “close”
e) Have a well articulated message for your target audience that highlights b) and c) above.
f) Ensure you have implemented 2) in your Lead Generation System before you begin testing.
g) Decide on a marketing tactic - and try it, ideally for a period of 4, 8 or 12 weeks.

5. Evaluating your Lead Generation System

Remember part 1 - your objectives? Use these as your Key Performance Indicators or mile stones to monitor the effectiveness of your lead generation system and marketing campaign. Here are some indicators you could use to monitor the effectiveness of the system -

No, of new ezine subscribers

No. of new signups or downloads for your FREE “teaser” offer

No, of words or square centimetre columns (scc) coverage you got in the press

No of Appointments

No. of business cards collected

No. of referrals

No. of affiliate signups

No. of qualified sales leads

No. of sales

Determine which of the marketing approaches you are using is generating the most progress and business for you. If you are continually using a strategy that Is ineffective - drop it, and test a new approach.

Remember, in a condition of need, when you’re short of new business, it is hard to hide that, and when you’re “needy” that feeling of neediness, even desperation is apparent, because you are preoccupied with you, and your focus is on you and you tend to talk about what you HAVE, what you can DO, not what the client GETS or NEEDS.

Your prospective clients are preoccupied with themselves, and their problems too, that’s why it’s important your lead generation system is set up correctly so that it isn’t YOU focused and it is client focused.

Setting up a Lead Generation System can and does take time, but once created, can run like a well oiled engine, if the process above is followed. Many self employed service providers who don’t have a lead generation system in place for their business very quickly believe that marketing is a waste of time and even begin to doubt whether self employment is actually for them.

A Lead Generation System can and does work, but you have to start thinking differently and then taking consistent action with your new thinking. This new approach can be place you out of your comfort zone, can be perceived as HARD WORK, even frustrating on occasion - but it can pay enormous dividends, and even increase the Life time value of a client by as much as 100 - 500%.

So, stop pushing people away, start attracting new prospective clients in their masses because you have something they want - the promise of a solution that works.

Hope this helps.

Regards

Business Kissing

Have you noticed how suddenly everyone’s kissing. I’m not talking continental kissing, pecking one cheek, and then the other. I mean a bit of a hug then a kiss on the cheek or the side of the face at least. And it’s not just extended family and very close friends here. Though certainly they’re at it too. No, I mean kissing in a business context. Seems to me the rule is, if you have ever met the person before even just once, then you greet them with a kiss. Male-female kiss, yes. Female-male kiss, sure. Female-female absolutely. Male-male, actually I’m not sure. Maybe my readers can enlighten me.

Everyone’s doing it. Bank manager and customer. Boss and employee. Next door neighbours. Client and accountant. Any old colleague. They’re all welcoming each other with a little muffle and a scuffle around the cheek and lip area. Granted, not a full smackaroony, I’m talking fuzzy, huggy, apologetic, crushing of cheeks, lips or anything else around the upper head region.
Where has this come from? It’s stolen upon us insidiously. What was once an occasional phenomenon 18 months ago when I was still with Ernst & Young, is now rife throughout the world, business and otherwise.

What’s your take on this? Mine is a bit of awkwardness. If I don’t do it first then I get treated to muffled hug-like I’ve forgotten. Or when the other party is more inhibited, I find we are looking at each other with inadequately covered discomfort, knowing what we should do but not quite mustering up. And the uneasiness sits with you throughout the meeting, like a thinly veiled sensation of indigestion.

Well, I’m having no more of it. From now on I’m sticking to the rules - as I have perceived them. From this day on, whoever you are, if you know me, expect a kiss. The only exception being those I am meeting for the first time. But that’s your only ever opt out, next time you’ll get one, just like everyone else. Brace yourself.

Car Maintenance Costs - The Real Story…

If you walked into your local car dealer and requested a 30,000-mile maintenance service, is it safe to assume that the dealer will follow manufacturer guidelines when servicing your car? Should the dealer “only” follow manufacturer guidelines? Can they bend the guidelines…?

Here’s a recent and very common scenario that occurred at a local Toyota dealership….

A service customer called the dealer to schedule the manufacturer’s recommended 30,000-mile service for his 2005 4-Cylinder Camry. However, the dealer added several services NOT included in the guidelines.

The additional services included a coolant flush (drain and refill), automatic transmission service (drain and refill), and a power steering fluid change.

According to the manufacturer, the coolant does not need to be replaced until 100,000 miles. The automatic transmission fluid can last until 120,000 miles. And there is no specific maintenance interval for the power steering fluid.

Now, before we throw the dealer under the bus, which, don’t get me wrong, is always a blast to do, is there any legitimacy in recommending these extra services? Are there any circumstances where one may want to consider performing a coolant or transmission service 70,000 to 90,000 miles sooner than recommended by the manufacturer of the car? If we assume that we’re not driving the vehicle beyond its limits, such as racing, off-road, or a high-speed police chase, the answer is no - not in this case.

There are times, however, when it is ok to venture outside manufacturer guidelines. The conditions include, but are not limited to: maintenance neglect, abuse, vehicle age, poor manufacturer design, and poor quality of fuel.

While each of the exceptions above are fun to explore, we should highlight fuel quality concerns. Poor gas quality often leads to carbon build up, which can be remedied by a professional fuel injection service. Aside from this fuel cleaning service (which no manufacturer recommends during regular maintenance), there is no service outside of the manufacturer guidelines that offers any real or lasting benefit.

So how can a dealer recommend services outside of the guidelines set by the manufacturer of the product that they sell and service?

The answer is that car dealerships (the majority anyway) are independent of the manufacturer. In other words, they’re not bound to adhere to set guidelines. In fact, many dealers create there own maintenance schedules. This creative practice is increasing as manufacturers continue to extend maintenance services, stripping dealers of there usual high and comfortable profit margins.

Interestingly, in terms of service, a manufacturer and a dealer are in opposition of one another. Manufacturer’s set vehicle maintenance schedules to keep vehicles maintained according to their standards; however, one of those standards is “low cost.” Low maintenance costs net a positive image to the manufacturer. The service center in a dealership on the other hand, wants cars to be as “high cost” as possible to maintain.

Despite all this, there is another possibility worth exploring in this dealer versus manufacturer scenario. Given that the client called the dealer it’s likely that he spoke with an untrained and under-qualified customer service representative. The representative may have misled the client, providing outdated maintenance recommendations, as the older Toyota’s did in fact require the coolant and transmission services mentioned above.

In larger dealerships, telephones are usually answered by Call Centers. This is a group of people who know little about cars, but are generally pleasant on the phone. Call Center representatives are famous for providing misinformation and miss-reading a detailed automotive service menu, such as a 30,000-mile service on a 2005 4-Cylinder Camry. In other words, one of these representatives may have listed services which are NOT actually part of the service. This happens every day! Few notice…who actually remembers anything after: the service includes and oil and filter change, check fluids, belts, hoses, replace the air filter, set tire pressures….blah, blah, blah…

The owner of the Camry was quoted $450 - which - if the dealer was actually going to perform all that it stated, and the car actually needed it - would actually be a good deal.

The real and fair price according to manufacturer guidelines for a 30,000-mile service on a 2005 4-Cylinder Toyota Camry is $272.03 @ $100 per hour. To see the break down of FAIR charges visit: http://www.repairtrust.com/auto_repair_estimate_toyota_camry_4cyl_auto_2005_30k_serv.html

The service includes the following:

Inspections:

  • Inspect ball joints and dust covers
  • Inspect brake hoses/lines
  • Inspect brakes, pads/discs/runout
  • Inspect and test traction control
  • Inspect CV joints and boots
  • Inspect coolant
  • Inspect automatic transmission fluid
  • Inspect differential fluid (A/T trans)
  • Inspect radiator/hoses
  • Inspect steering system
  • Inspect exhaust
  • Inspect fuel system/lines/hoses/gas cap/induction system

The only items that actually get or require replacement:

  • Engine oil and filter
  • Cabin filter
  • Air filter
  • Transmission fluid (manual transmissions only)

Other services:

  • Reset maintenance reminder light
  • Rotate tires
  • Tighten nuts and bolts on chassis

The frequency of manipulating the guidelines with extra services is astounding. And it’s only one tactic of hundreds. Stretching pre-determined guidelines expands across all makes, models - foreign and domestic, and occurs at dealers, local shops and franchises. It occurs because the automotive service industry has zero accountability in any tangible sense.

Thus the service customer has no true advocate, information, or resources in which to turn, that can provide sound, fair, and reasonable prices and advice. For this reason alone, rests the creation of RepairTrust.

Why Do Beverly Hills Women Seek Breast Augmentation?

Breast augmentation has become, if not the most popular, at least one of the most popular cosmetic surgery procedures sought in Beverly Hills. In fact, the popularity of breast implant surgery has moved beyond Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, and Southern California, to the rest of the United States. According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), in 2003 nearly 255,000 women in the United States underwent breast augmentation; nearly twice the number performed in 1998.

In this educational article about breast augmentation, as well as in other breast related articles provided on www.beautifulfigure.com, board certified plastic surgeon and renowned breast augmentation specialist Dr. Sean Younai reviews some of the pertinent topics about breast augmentation (or enlargement), saline and silicone breast implant placement or exchange, breast lift or “mastopexy,” breast reduction surgery, and the treatments for complications of breast augmentation or “augmentation mammoplasty.”

Why do women seek breast augmentation?
–Some women never developed normal shaped, or normal sized breasts as the rest of their body matured. Frustrated with the lack of results from breast enlargement firming creams, pills, exercises, or machines, these women turn to breast augmentation surgery to achieve the proportional figure that they had always desired.

–Other women were unfortunately born with abnormal or asymmetrical breast deformities such as Poland’s Syndrome, which results from the failure of breast gland and pectoral chest muscles to development on one side. Similarly, others were afflicted with tubular or tuberous breast deformity which causes the constriction and narrowing of the base of the breast along with the enlargement of the areola. Breast implants and breast augmentation surgery has been able to give these women normal-looking and beautiful breasts.

–Many women have lost breast volume, fullness, and shape with pregnancy, breastfeeding and nursing. While happy with being blessed with childbirth, these women feel that in return they have lost their youthful appearing breasts. These fashion-conscious women of Beverly Hills, Los Angeles and Hollywood have sought breast augmentation as a means of regaining their proportional figure, so once again they can fit into form-fitting tops, bras, and other clothes.

–Obesity afflicts 65 percent of all adults in the United States, according to the National Institute of Health (NIH). Bariatric or Gastric Bypass surgery has become a very popular treatment for morbid obesity. After such massive weight loss surgery, women lose significant breast volume and are left with empty and sagging breasts. Breast augmentation along with breast lift surgery, or mastopexy, has been the answer for those women who seek to regain a normal figure and breasts after massive weight loss.

–Breast Augmentation with breast implants has been a viable and safe option for breast reconstruction, which is done on many women who have lost their breasts to breast cancer. Breast Reconstruction with breast implants utilizes breast implant expanders to first enlarge the breast skin envelope before the final saline or silicone breast implant is placed.

What information should you consider before proceeding with breast augmentation?
During your consultation at the California Center for Plastic Surgery (www.beautifulfigure.com) , Dr. Younai will review your options for different types, shapes, textures, and sizes of saline or silicone breast implants, as well as, different approaches for breast enlargement.

Breast implants can be inserted via an armpit incision (transaxillary), areolar/nipple incision (periareolar), breast fold incision (inframammary), or belly button incision (transumbilical). While an armpit or transaxillary incision scar might not be very noticeable, it usually results in the breasts being too far apart, causing lack of a strong cleavage. It also carries a higher risk for implant displacement and breast asymmetry.

An inframammary or periareolar approach can usually produce the nicest cleavage and the most precise placement of breast implants.

While the transumbilical approach is marketed by some plastic surgeons as “scarless breast augmentation,” indeed it is not so! I have personally consulted women who were not pleased with the belly button scar; especially since they were no longer able to wear cut-off tops. The transumbilical route of breast implant insertion also carries an increased surgical risk of possible damage to internal organs if the inserting metal rod is misguided.

In Conclusion, breast augmentation has become very popular, not only in Beverly Hills, but also throughout southern California and Los Angeles. There are many factors and issues to be considered before embarking upon breast augmentation. Therefore, you should educate yourself about breast augmentation topics by visiting our educational web site: www.beautifulfigure.com

Iowa chiropractic schools offer professional training in the practices of chiropractics to provide natural healing to those with skeletal and joint problems. The first chiropractic school was founded in Davenport, Iowa, in 1897 by D. D. Palmer just two years after he performed the first recorded chiropractic adjustment. Chiropractic medicine soon set a path to this new approach to health care that has since grown into the second largest licensed health care profession in the United States. Chiropractic schools in Iowa continue the tradition, teaching this beneficial form of natural healing to thousands annually.

Iowa chiropractic schools provide extensive programs in chiropractic medicine, which emphasize prevention of disease and disability through natural means without drugs or invasive surgery. Rather than the traditional approaches to medicine, chiropractic schools teach students structural and neurological aspects of the body and how to provide treatment for correcting physical misalignment and various ways to address disease prevention.

Chiropractic is generally considered an alternative or complementary form of health care. Students study many of the usual medical sciences - anatomy, biology, chemistry, pathology - but also study nutrition, communication skills, psychology, counseling, X-ray, diagnostics, and practical hands-on clinical treatment. In Iowa chiropractic schools, students can expect to receive thorough preparation in alternative healthcare chiropractics as they learn spinal manipulation, joint adjustment, physiological therapeutics, clinical nutrition, lifestyle counseling, and hygiene for improving the general health of clients.

Students will find many services available to them, such as Financial Aid through assistantships, scholarships, loans, and grants. Assistance with housing and placement services may also be available in Iowa chiropractic schools.

In short, you can take that first step to becoming a licensed chiropractor with excellent training from one of the top chiropractic schools in Iowa. So why not start now?
