I know there are times when our children can really be a pain in the butt. I know they can get on our nerves periodically. I know if it wasn’t for my child then I personally don’t think my life would have become what it has become today. It amazes me when I look back over the last twelve years of my life and see my daughter continuing to grow up. It seems like yesterday when I use to bathe her, feed her, and watching every move she made in the house so she wouldn’t run into any of the furniture. I know twelve years don’t seem like a long time; but if you have been through what I’ve been through over the course of her young life then you’ll understand why I appreciate my daughter.

Through it all though; my daughter has turned out to be a remarkable young lady. It’s funny how the years truly do fly. Now she’s off to school each and every day, catching the school bus, coming and going to her extra-curricular activities and enjoying the time of her life. I have to appreciate all that has happened in my life when it comes to me being a parent and raising my one and only daughter. She’s typical and like any other child, having her own way of thinking and she is the joy of my life. One thing I do is let my child know how much I appreciate her. Give your child their props now. Don’t wait until some sugar daddy comes along and sweet talk her and sweep her off her feet. Let her know now how remarkable she is to you and express your feeling towards your child. If you have a son then treat him the same way with the respect of not letting some sweet sugar momma sweep him off his feet and blow him into an outer-space entrapment.

Regardless of the challenges, pain and disappointment your child can bring into your life, it should help bring out the best in you. You and I made a conscience choice decision when it came to having children. So, it’s our responsibility to raise them to help shape and develop their character and watch them mature into young adults; but by the same token during this process your lifestyle and character should have been improved as you have grown as a parent, meaning if it wasn’t for the changes and attitude adjustments you had to deal with being a parent you never would have become the parent you are today. Are you a responsible parent today?

Regardless if you are a single-parent or are happily married, parenting is a two-fold deal. One good way of making sure you and your child are on one accord and are bonding is by showing how appreciative you are of him or her. This type of parenting will teach both you and your child how to have mutual respect for each other and it will show others in general how to have a good and lasting relationship with their children. Express your feelings to your child or children and let them know how much you appreciate them.

I can’t help but to love my daughter in many different ways. Yet her behavior can be a thorn in my flesh. I’m far from being the perfect parent; there are times when my daughter attempts to get away with murder to the degree like it’s killing me. She simply uses manipulation. She has her way of wanting to control me and to get what she wants. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t.

It’s tough when you are raising your child in two different environments; and that’s just what happens when you and the other parent are no longer together. However, there are some of you who are together and your children play you one against the other; and it works well if you and the other parent don’t get along with one another. For instance; your child ask you if he or she can go to a particular place and you say no and then as soon as your spouse comes home from work your child comes to you and ask you the same thing he or she just asked your spouse. They attempt to manipulate. To help you avoid and nip manipulation in the bud; keep your communication lines open with your spouse especially if you are married and are on one accord. If you are a single parent; then basically you will do the same thing by letting the non-custodian parent know your child asked to go to such and such a place or do a certain thing and you told them no; and you share your reasoning of why you made such a decision.

Hopefully you and the child’s parent are on same page to prevent any misunderstanding of what’s best for your child. The better the relationship with your child; fewer conflicts you will encounter with your child using manipulating tactics. Have you ever noticed how you do not have to teach your child how to be bad; and how to practice unacceptable behavior? I simply educate my child by using different analogies that make sense. I may say to her if she tries to be slick; then she will probably slide. If you lie; trust will surely die. I could go on and on. The point I make to her is the fact of her reaping what she will sow. This works in most cases; however sometimes children including mine have to learn the hard way and then they learn from the consequences of their choices. Are you having difficulties bonding with your child due to being a single parent? Then I want you to begin using wisdom which is simply using common-sense approaches to deal with your child and their manipulative ways. Become a wise parent and watch out for signs of manipulation.

While it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to explain the law of gravity; it does take a simple explanation to share with your child the consequences for their actions. My daughter has tried over and over, time after time to test the waters with bad behavioral actions. The best I can do is explain to her the consequences for her actions. While sometimes it seems as if what I tell her goes through one ear and out the other, I believe I’ve finally gotten through by letting her know that I’ve lived long enough and there’s really nothing she could do or think that would surprise me whether it’s good or bad. I’ve let her know there are consequences for bad behavior and a price to pay for her actions, and there are rewards to be gained across the board for her good behavior. I simply let her know she’s only hurting herself by her own actions with the things done that’s not acceptable, not only to me, but to mainly herself. Using corporal punishment is not always the solution to kids’ bad behavior. Each and every child is different to how they respond to the decisions you make when they choose to be defiant occasionally.

If you want to help your child overcome their bad behavior; have a face to face sit down conversation with them explaining the consequences for their actions. Hopefully sooner better than later they will begin to take heed to your words of wisdom and knowledge and begin to practice what you have preached and taught them. By talking to your child you will let them know they should pay close attention to what you are sharing with them so that there lives won’t be as complicated with good counsel verses not getting any kind of counsel at all. While it’s true we as parents do not have all the answers to life problems; we do or should have enough life experience to help our children. If you are a very young parent then seek the help of an elder of someone who’s much older than you or someone with good parenting skills to help you along the way as you grow into becoming a mature parent yourself.
