Online Backups - Storing Your Files Remotely

There is one major problem with most computer backup procedures. Usually after a backup is made, all of the information and data stays in the same place as it always was. However, there are many disasters that could befall your data and computer that make it worthwhile to look into online backups as a precautionary measure. Online data backups will allow you to save a copy of your file or files in a hard drive that cannot be destroyed at the same time as your computer. This way, even if you experience theft or a natural disaster such as a fire or flood you will still have your data.

Is it safe?

Many people are a little bit unsure of putting their data online. After all, if the information can be accessed by them from any computer, doesn’t that mean that the data can be accessed by everybody? Yes and no. While it is theoretically possible for a different person to get into your data as it is stored through an online data backup, the chances of this actually happening are slim to none as long as you’re using a reputable service.

You also have the option of doing something on your end to make sure that the data stays secure. If you can get your hands on any backup software that can encrypt the data, then you should do this. Encrypted data cannot be stolen without considerable effort. Just make sure that you remember what program you used to encrypt it in the first place.

Are online backups easy to use?

Yes! Online data backup services generally only require that you upload the files that you want saved. Then, the files are saved for you, and that’s it! As you can imagine, online data backup services are becoming more and more widespread. You should also be able to access your online data backup from anywhere in the world. While I do not recommend using this as your only form of data backup I highly recommend using an online data back solution as part of a holistic approach to data security.

How fast are they?

This is going to depend by and large on the type of internet connnection that you have. If you are still going online with a dialup connection, then you should not look into this type of data backup. It will just take far too long to get your backup done, and during that time, you could easily have just put all the files onto DVDs and give them to a friend for safekeeping. If you have a high speed internet connection – either cable or DSL, then you’re in luck and this will not be a problem at all. Just log in, get an account, and upload to your heart’s content.

How much space will you have?

This is going to depend on the backup service that you choose in the end. However, most of the spaces available range between about 100MB and several GB of space with most of them offering at least 1GB of storage space to get started with.

Online data backups are going to become an absolute necessity for the smart computer owner. I wouldn’t live without one and use mine every single day at the very least.

Simple Vehicle Maintenance Guide

Regular preventative maintenance and upkeep can prolong a vehicle’s life, improve the resale value and keep routine problems from becoming significant ones. The owner’s manual for your vehicle includes a maintenance schedule to guide you on the recommended actions to take at specified mileage and mileage intervals. Any vehicle will eventually encounter mechanical issues, but you can prevent major problems and optimize your car’s performance by following the maintenance schedule and performing basic upkeep that is recommended for all vehicles.

There is no substitute for having your oil changed regularly. But it is also crucial to check the oil periodically between oil changes, particularly if your vehicle has high mileage. The level and condition of the oil will signify whether you should have it changed sooner than scheduled or have your engine serviced. If the oil level is in the low range, it is imperative that you have the oil changed right away, and it would be a good idea to have the engine checked for leaks. If the oil appears dark brown or black, as opposed to a reddish color, it is time for an oil change. Other signals that you should have your vehicle checked are oil leaks under the car, or a change in the oil pressure gauge.

Your vehicle’s cooling system regulates the engine’s operating temperature, and overheating can cause irreversible damage to an engine. Check the coolant level in your vehicle periodically, such as when you check the oil, and have any leaks repaired right away. It is also wise to ensure that the front of your radiator is not obstructed by debris, which is one cause of overheating. Be attentive to the temperature gauge in your vehicle, and stop right away if it ever rises uncharacteristically. Do not attempt to open the reservoir until the engine has cooled, and have your radiator checked before driving the vehicle any further.

If you have an automatic transmission, you should also check the level and color of the transmission fluid regularly. If the level is low, there is likely a leak that should be repaired. Again, keep an eye out for leaks under your car. You should have the transmission fluid changed on regular intervals as recommended by your vehicle’s manual, and if it appears dark or dirty (as opposed to a clear reddish or brownish tint). It is also important to consistently use the type of fluid that is specified in your vehicle owner’s manual.

Preventative maintenance is necessary to keep your car performing at its best and to prolong its life. Keeping a detailed record of your vehicle’s maintenance history is helpful for trading or selling the vehicle in the future. While this guide serves as an outline of helpful suggestions, it is recommended to follow your vehicle’s maintenance schedule from the manufacturer and have any problems checked by a professional before they have time to escalate.

I Want To Sell My Mortgage Notes - Options and Alternatives

So you’ve decided: I want to sell my mortgage notes, but I’m not sure how to go about it. Or maybe you just want to learn more about the process or need a recommendation for a note buyer. Whatever the case may be, this article will help explain the note selling process to you.

There are endless reasons why a real estate paper holder such as yourself might want to sell your note. Most of the time, it is to gain access to a substantial amount of capital for a new investment, to make a payment or even to make a big purchase. It certainly makes sense because it is one of the easiest ways to get cash fast, especially compared to obtaining a loan from a bank or other creditor.

With more and more transactions taking place online, you’ll hear many people saying: I want to sell my mortgage notes on the Internet. A few years ago this may have sounded strange, but today millions of people conduct their business on the World Wide Web. Mortgage note buying and selling is no different. If you know where to look, you can find some of the most reputable, experienced note buyers in the industry online.

The best part of selling your mortgage paper online is that it gives you access to people you wouldn’t be able to find otherwise. Flipping through your phone book, you would only find a handful of individuals, and calling all of them would be time consuming.

However, when you decide I want to sell my mortgage notes online, you are opening yourself up to a nationwide audience of note buyers. In most cases, all you need to do is fill out a short form with some information about yourself and your note, and someone will contact you within 24-48 hours to discuss your options. And with all of the competition online, you’re bound to get top dollar for your paper, especially if it’s a strong note.

Now, you might be asking I want to sell my mortgage note but how much can I get for it? Well that depends on many different criteria. The note buyer will want to know the remaining balance, the time left, the value of the property, the financial stability of the payor and other factors. Remember, the buyer is assuming the risk, so it has to make sense for him or her financially. They will take into account all of these things when coming up with a price. Obviously, some notes are riskier than others, so a less risky note will fetch a higher price, and vice versa.

If you’re thinking I want to sell my mortgage notes online, now is a good time to do it. Just make sure you find an experienced note buyer who can offer you a competitive rate.

Global Warming Update - Eskimos Spot First Palm Tree

In an especially inarguable event that global warming is proceeding apace, a group of Eskimos noticed – while hunting for caribou on the sort of unusually balmy day that they’ve been experiencing with ever-growing frequency – a tree they were not familiar with, growing high above the tundra.

Priding themselves on knowing the flora and fauna of their land, they puzzled over the strange growth.

“Look,” one said, “a tree I never saw before.”

“No branches,” another one puzzled.

“Even a bear couldn’t climb it,” a third one noted.

Then one of them pointed to the groups of large roundish green objects in the high and odd-looking leaves, known in warmer climes as palm fronds. “Look,” he speculated, “big fruit, maybe.”

Just then one of the ovoid objects happened to break loose and fall toward them.

Unfortunately, for the fellow who had just identified it as fruit, the object hit him on the head and, being rather heavy and hard, it knocked him out.

When he awoke, he felt the lump on his head, and concluded, “Not very ripe.”

Respecting the environment, as all Eskimos are famously known to do, except when poaching, they decided not to chop the tree down to take it back via dogsled for identification but to settle for returning with the unidentified object that had hit their unsuspecting fellow villager on the noggin.

When they got back to their village, they went straight to the village elder, who was revered for many reasons, one of them being that he was the only resident of the village who, one year when the salmon catch had been especially bountiful, had managed to wangle a trip to Florida.

When he saw the strange object, his brows fretted and he looked up, saying, “I thought you went caribou hunting?”

“We did,” one of the hunters replied.

“I did not know that there are caribou in Florida,” he said, questioningly.

“Florida?” another hunter asked, now even more mystified.

“Yes, because as far as I know, this thing only grows in Florida. As you know, once, in my younger days, I went there for a mid-winter break.”

“Then you know what it is?” the fellow who had been hit on the head with it asked.

“Yes, he replied. “It’s called a coconut.”

“Coconut?” they variously puzzled, passing it around for another look.

“Yes,” the elder confirmed. “Where did you find it?”

“In a tree we never saw before.”

“And where did you see this tree?” the wizened man questioned.

“In caribou country,” one of the hunters affirmed.

“I swear,” another added.

“Then,” he told them, “thanks to global warming, our way of life is about to change. You have found a palm tree in Alaska.”

“Palm tree?” they wondered.

“Yes,” he said, and whacked the coconut with a large knife.

He savored a sip of the nectar within and, passing the coconut around so the hunters might experience the milky delectation, he concluded, “And so, if I live long enough, maybe I will get to enjoy the climate of Florida without having to make another trip there.”

Burning Your Scented Candles

Sometimes we forget the basic principles of burning our soy scented candles. We have customers who praise our candles and tell us that they burn all the way through, while some tell us that the candles leave a well down the middle or leave black soot.

While some batches may differ due to scents, wicks, temperatures while pouring, and other factors, the only other reason may be not following the basic principles of burning candles.

Here they are:

1. Keep away from drafts. Sometimes we don’t pay attention to where are candles are placed while burning. While they may be visually appealing on the dining room table, on the fireplace, or near the window, feel and see where a draft might be influencing a burn.

2. Trim the wick. Trim the wick 1/4 inch, or what you feel best suited. You’ll see sometimes a mushroom top on the wick before you trim it. This will reduce black smoke and or soot.

3. Leave a candle burning for at least a few hours, we recommend 3-4 hours at a time. When you burn a candle for only an hour or two, you’ll actually see the burning pool point, or memory burn. This expands the longer you burn the candle. So if it only burns for a short time, it will continue with a well, burning down before it reaches the end of the jar.

4. Remember, NEVER burn a candle unattended.

We hope that you follow these basic steps to burn a jar candle properly. This steps should work with any candle, not just ours, and remember, if there is still a problem, it may be due to the batch itself.

The Upcoming Presidential Election in France

This article describes the top four candidates in the upcoming Presidential election in France and their general political stances, as well as their standings in the latest public opinion polls.

In several weeks there will be a Presidential election in France which will end the 12
year reign of Jacques Chirac. It looks to be a close and interesting race, and the first
round of voting is on April 22. Here is a brief look at the top four candidates in the
polls.

There are in fact 12 candidates who have qualified to be on the ballot based on
obtaining the endorsement of at least 500 elected officials (mostly town mayors).
This list will be pared down to two, and a second round of voting will occur two weeks
after the first to decide the winner. The reason for two rounds of voting is that the
President must be elected by a majority of those voting, and that is virtually
impossible in one round with so many candidates.

Polls are notoriously inaccurate in France for choosing the eventual winner of an
election. Many people do not decide upon their choice until the end of the campaign,
and at best the polls are a snapshot of feelings on a given day.

The leading candidate in the polls thus far has been Nicolas Sarkozy, the leader of
the UMP party. M. Sarkozy is known to be tough, sometimes blunt, decisive, and
ambitious. He generally favors free enterprise as opposed to socialistic tinkering with
the economy and markets. In particular he opposes the mandatory 35 hour work
week limit passed several years ago by a socialist government. He is also outspoken
about the existing immigration policies in France. He recently resigned as Interior
Minister, a top cabinet position, in order to concentrate full-time on the campaign. He
has held a lead in the polls for some time, but that lead is normally only a few
percentage points. Polls currently indicate that he will be the top vote getter in the
first round and would defeat Mme Royal in a second round match-up but would lose
to Francois Bayrou in the second round.

The second strongest candidate in the polls thus far is Segolene Royal of the PS
(Parti Socialist). The PS is of course on the left of the political spectrum. Mme Royal
would be the first female President of France. One might say that she has a certain
advantage in that the UMP party with Jacques Chirac, her most significant
opponents, has held the office for 12 years, and the French might be ready for a
change. M. Chirac’s popularity is currently quite low, although it has picked up a bit
in recent weeks since he finally announced recently that he would not be a candidate
again. Mme Royal has been slightly behind in the polls, but it is entirely possible that
she can win.

The third strongest candidate in the polls thus far, Francois Bayrou of the centrist
UDF party, has been a surprise. At the beginning of the year his poll numbers were
low, about 6% intention to vote in the first round. He has steadily moved up in the
polls to over 20%, a major advance, and he is thus not far from Mme Royal and M.
Sarkozy. His centrist position seems to be appealing to the French, and in fact if he
manages to make it to the second round, the polls show him defeating both Sarkozy
and Royal! If he does not place in the top two, however, he will certainly have a large
voice in determining the eventual winner, assuming his followers will adhere to
whatever advice he chooses to give.

The fourth major factor in the campaign is Jean-Marie Le Pen, founder of the FN
party. M. Le Pen is still dynamic at over 80 years of age, and he has been an
outspoken factor in French politics for a long time. He actually made it to the second
round of the 2002 election by defeating the PS candidate. This was a huge shock
for the French at that time. It is inconceivable that M. Le Pen would ever be elected
President of France. His message is very much right wing, and he is a strong
nationalist and would certainly curtail immigration to France substantially. He is a
lightening rod for anti-immigration sentiment and has a loyal following with whom his
message resonates. Current polls show him at 13.5% intention to vote in round one,
rather far behind Sarkozy at 28%, Royal at 23%, and Bayrou at 21%, according to
the Ifop poll released on 30 March 2007. Le Pen surprised everyone in 2002,
however, and the polls did not predict his success at that time, so anything is
possible.

The other 8 candidates in the race, mostly from small far left or right wing parties, are
splitting up the remainder of the vote. No other candidate has more than 3.5%
intention to vote in the first round, according to the Ifop poll cited above. These
candidates are in the race to promote themselves and get their messages out as
best they can.

The upcoming Presidential election in France could easily be won by any of the top three candidates. The results for the first round should be known at about 2pm New York time on April 22, unless it is too close to call at that moment.

French Architect Solves 4,500-Year-Old Pyramid Mystery; Awaits Answer

A French architect has surprised the archeological world by claiming that the Great Pyramid, in which the Pharaoh Cheops resided for an unexpectedly long time, was built from the inside out – and the innovative Parisian has presented 3-D, computer-generated images to back his theory. He is now awaiting an answer from Egypt’s Supreme Council On Antiquities.

Consider the riddle has challenged the minds of people who have nothing more important to think about for some 4,500 years, it seems expected that the response might take some time.

Prior to his pointedly different proposal, the theories were that it was assembled with an enormous ramp in the front or a corkscrew affair around the outside. But Jean-Pierre Houdin has the images to show that the main ramp was thirty to fifty feet under the outside, outlining, if you can believe it, a pyramid within a pyramid.

His computer model shows that the resourceful builders only used an exterior ramp for the first 140 feet of laborious and idiotic construction and then switched to a corkscrew-shaped inner ramp for the remainder of the 450-foot blockbuster tomb.

Houdin maintains he’s right for the most obvious of reasons, stating, “This is better than the other theories, because it is the only theory that works.”

A well-known Egyptologist commented, “This goes against both main existing theories. I’ve been teaching them myself for 20 years, but deep down I know they’re wrong.” He went on to say, “Houdin’s vision is credible, but right now this is just a theory. Everybody thinks it has got to be taken seriously.”

Egypt’s Supreme Council of Antiquities is still deliberating.

Learn to Play Guitar with Online Software

Like for many who aspire to learn to play the guitar, my quest at proficiency has taken many twists and turns. I have considered taking formal classes at $30 an hour. While this method appears to be the best, it is expensive and requires a long commitment. In addition, due to my busy schedule I found it impossible to commit to a set schedule. I purchased the latest books, videos, and online software. By using each of these different delivery methods I learned a bit, and am able to play many basic tunes on the guitar. The purpose of this article is to share my thoughts on the benefits and drawbacks of each method mentioned above. These opinions are based on my experiences and frustrations in my journey to learn to play guitar. So lets get started!

My love affair with the guitar started about 12 to 15 years ago. I was listening to B.B King and was entranced by the sounds coming out of Lucille. I knew that I would love nothing more than to sit back at home and play those awesome songs all night! I thought it would be pretty cool to play some sick blues for a few of my friends at my very frequent (and often drunken!) parties. So I started to look for information on how to learn to play guitar. The Internet was not quite so replete with information as it is today (and I did not have a PC at my disposal) so I went to the bookstore and bought a few books. These books gave a pretty good basic history of the guitar and a cursory introduction into music theory. When it came to learning how to play, problems occurred from the start.

The first issue was tuning the guitar! The instructions were to use a piano for tuning. I did not have one and I suspect not many people do today. The tuning fork was a pain and I suspect that my first few months of learning were done with an out of tune guitar. The next issue was hand and finger position. Six lines, frets and black dots are a poor way to show you how to place your fingers. Even if you have no problem with this, the dynamic nature of playing guitar is difficult to illustrate on paper. The next issue was reading the music. It was presented in a cumbersome and very boring manner. How did I know that I was playing the notes right? The big issue with the book method for me was a lack of visual step-by-step instructions that showed me how the fingers worked in unison, and how the notes (and songs) were supposed to sound. In later years, books on how to learn to play guitar came with CDs. This was a tremendous improvement and help. Tuning was much easier, and I could listen to what the songs I was learning were supposed to sound like. But many of the problems remained. I feel that books are not the best delivery method for learning to play guitar.

Next came the videos. This media was leaps and bounds better than the books I had purchased. I could see and hear what the instructor was teaching. Tuning was even easier than before. Video close ups shed light on many of my previous questions on hand position and the dynamic nature of guitar playing. I was able to copy the instructor and actually play some cool tunes. I used the rewind function hundreds of times to reproduce something I had missed or was having troubles with. There were some very painful limitations to this method though. The first was boredom. You can only rewind the same tape to watch the same thing so many times. After that you lose interest. The next problem was that you really only learned to play whatever songs are on the 60 min tape. You were never (or at least not very well) given the tools to play other songs. This was quite limiting for me. The last issue was the actual camera angles of the videos. The shots were often too far or at wrong angles for you to see exactly what the instructor was doing. This was frustrating for me.

So we get to my favorite method: Online software! Today’s Internet gives us the ability to download full courses that allow you to learn to play guitar in the comfort of your home.
Some of these courses are multimedia instructionals that allow you to use technology to maximum effect. One such course is Jamorama. This course teaches the user TAB, and how to play songs by ear. It takes advantage of the thousands of TAB songs available for free on the Internet. The price is close to what you would pay for one hour of instruction, or what you would pay for 2 good books on learning to play guitar. This course overcomes the shortcoming of books and videos because it is dynamic. There are games that teach you to learn the tedious and boring tasks of reading and transcribing music. There are over 148 videos that show you step-by-step how to play songs. One of the more interesting things about Jamorama is that it also has 26 tracks that you play along with. In fact, you can turn off the guitar track and play along with drummer and bassist. This is a vast improvement over the other methods. The main benefit with this method, and with this course in particular is that it is more interactive!

So what are the downfalls? Because these methods are made to appeal to a large audience with many different musical style interests, there are a lot of songs that just don’t appeal to me. I personally have no interest in Nirvana, Van Halen or a multitude of Bands/singers that always appear on these types of courses. Much of the content is just not interesting and therefore some of the wealth of information that is offered is often wasted.
I still believe that online software is the best way to go to learn to play guitar. The interactive benefits are excellent. This is also a very convenient way to learn!

According To News, Happiness Is No Longer Possible; World Too Crazy

If you listen to the news without the healthy defense of perspective, you can easily begin to think that the world is so crazy happiness is no longer possible or, at least, a highly irresponsible proclivity.

As you well know, from the time we wake up until the time we doze off, the news presents the most egregious outrages it can assemble, as if to demand of us, “With all this mayhem and other craziness going on, how can you dare to be happy?”

Since it would be a sorry world if nobody was happy, we began to think about how to manage the pleasant state and concluded you either have to be very stupid or very smart. Everybody in between is bound to be swamped with the world’s collected and concentrated agony.

Here’s why.

If you’re really just plain stupid, you probably don’t listen to the news much anyway. You long ago gave up on trying to keep up with things you hardly understand anyway.

On the other hand, if you’re even reasonably savvy, you discovered the enormous difference that almost always obtains between the news and your personal life. While bombs and lunatics are always starring in the news and most of the other media that attempt to monopolize your mind, you notice that your personal life is actually generally quite peaceful and, when the reverberations of the news dissipate, still alive with occasions for happiness.

Why, you even find that there are still splendid and, in much of the media, little-regarded values like sincerity, kindness, love and, yes, laughter.

Meanwhile, if you’re not too dumb or intelligent enough, you’re right there on the receiving end of all the outrages the news can whip into a frenzy to engage your rapt reactions and elicit your legion of laments. Result: sorrow, with any hope of happiness long abandoned. ‘

Of course, everyone who reads NewsLaugh is smart enough to keep the news in perspective. Or we wouldn’t have the capacity to laugh at it. Which means, happy or sad, at least we’re primarily responding to the events of our personal lives, instead of

Eight Fired U. S. Attorneys Asked If Gonzales Should Stay

In a rare turn of events, in which the victims of political nonsense get to have their day in court, the eight U. S. attorneys who were fired under the watch of Attorney General Alberto Gonzales have been asked to decide if he should stay on the job.

When asked how they might vote, one of the attorneys said, “I always like to give the guy who fires me a chance to keep his own position.”

Another one noted the testimony by the Attorney General’s chief of staff, Kyle Sampson, that Gonzales coordinated the evaluations of the 93 attorneys “to see where changes might be appropriate.”

“I think firing me was inappropriate,” the ousted attorney maintained. “And I think it’s only fair for Attorney General Gonzales to enjoy a fate that’s just as inappropriate.”

A third member of the dismissed U. S. attorneys struck a more sympathetic note. “I don’t think Albert Gonzales should allow himself to be a victim of the sort of political witch hunts that have become all too common. I think he should stay on until he himself realizes what a relief it is not to be part of the current administration.”

Given the widespread sentiment of the eight attorneys about their firing, there seems little doubt that they will come down on the side of handing Gonzales the pink slip. With eight to choose from, they certainly have a ready supply.

Yet they must face the fact that Gonzales believes that, as the first attorney general of Mexican descent, he cannot, for ethnic reasons, resign. To bolster his position, he said, “”At the end of the day, I know what I did. And I know that the motivations for the decisions I made were not based on improper reasons. I was simply making it easier for these eight attorneys to take a vacation in Acapulco.”
