Making Plans For Your Dallas Wedding

Congratulations, you and your espoused are on your way to making a lifelong commitment. Between now and your wedding day, you’ll be planning for what will be one of the biggest events in your life – marriage to the one that you love. The busiest days of wedding planning are just ahead of you, with reception venue, wedding party details, and a whole host of other matters to tend to. If you are planning on getting married in the Dallas area, then the fine points as outlined here will help relieve some pressure as you organize your plans.

A Date And A Venue

Your wedding plans will involve much more than the size of your wedding or even your honeymoon planning. Coming up with a date and a venue will determine virtually every other aspect of your wedding day.

Many couples give strong consideration to holding an outdoors wedding event, particularly in a setting rich with flora and fauna. Historic Lee Park is most popular during the months when Dallas’ humidity is at its lowest. During the hotter months, Arlington Hall at Lee Park provides the majestic setting that so many couples desire. Arlington Hall is able to accommodate small, intimate wedding parties as well as lavish, wondrous weddings for as many as 500 guests. You and your guests can beat the heat and feel refreshed with the hall’s air-conditioning keeping everyone comfortable.

Besides Arlington Hall, couples will often take a look at the Dallas Museum of Art as a special place to hold a wedding. With three options available including the Harmon Atrium, Seventeen Seventeen dining hall, or the breathtaking outdoor Sculpture Garden, the museum could be a memorable setting for any couple in love.

Favorite hotels in Dallas for weddings include the Hotel Adolphus and the Crescent Court Hotel. Choose the Adolphus if it’s near century long tradition of hosting weddings appeals to you or select the Crescent Court if modern day elegance is what you want. Either hotel can accommodate your wedding guests and both hotels will be a favorite place for your out of town guests to stay too.

When Help Is Needed

Today’s busy couples cannot imagine arranging for their own festive event without some sort of outside assistance. While a family member or friend can be of immense help with making arrangements, most couples choose professional assistance in the form of a wedding planner to provide the help that they need.

A knowledgeable wedding planner is able to listen to what a couple wants and turn those desires into a successful wedding event. Relying upon her vast storehouse of wedding vendor contacts and previous planning skills, a capable wedding planner can relieve the couple of all of the unavoidable pressures associated with organizing a grand affair so that they can look forward to their big day in peace.

Enjoying Your Day And Each Other

When it comes down to it, a wedding should be about you and your spouse, not the scores of attendant responsibilities that come with arranging your special day. An accomplished wedding planner taps her favorite resources to present a graceful event that allows the newlyweds to enjoy their special day, the company of their guests, and above all else – each other.

If you should need assistance planning your wedding, it would be a wise decision to contact a dallas wedding planner to help you achieve the day you have always dreamed about.

To Deep Link or Not to Deep Link? That is the Question

Once you determine that you are going to submit your page to a web directory. Your next question will be if you should deep link or not. First let’s cover what deep linking is. Deep linking is a process by which a link is generated to a specific page within a domain, rather than linking to the main home page of the website.

The decision to deep link or not, should be based on the needs of your site and what content is relevant. You will want to deep link to a partictiular page of your site to a web directory, if the category you are linking to is relevant only to that page of the site. That should be the ONLY page linked because it contains the relevelant information the searcher seeks. Once you determine what you want your audience to see what they link to your site. You will be able to better determine if you should deep link or not to deep link. As I said, determine what your needs are. What you want the audience to retrieve first and what your sites represents to the audience you are targeting. Doing this will answer the question to deep linking or not.

If everyone on your site is relevant to the category you are linking in to then linking directly to your home page is a better choice to take. Of course, your home page is an important page to your site, and you do want people to see that when they visit. But if it isn’t relevant to what the searches needs, doing a deep link will make your site more user friendly.

One of the purposes of back linking and submitting your links to a web directory is to bring traffic to your website. As well as to increase your page ranking with the search engines. The most important part of linking is linking to relevant site and the content of the site.

How to Break Up a Cat Fight

Here are some tips on how to do it without hurting you or your cat…

1. Avoid hitting the cats or getting your hands anywhere near their mouths. Hitting could make the situation worse and could cause the attack to be redirected toward you.

2. Spray the aggressor with a water hose. If this doesn’t make a difference, aim for the nostrils.

3. Hold a broom between the cats to separate them.

4. Use a noisemaking device such as an air horn to drive the animals apart, and be prepared to move away quickly or defend yourself.

5. The quickest way to break up a cat fight is loud hissing, spitting, and a glass of water appropriately applied (aim for the face).

6. Put a magazine or a newspaper between the two cats to block their vision of each other. This works where the cats are in a frozen position, but not yet making contact. It allows the frightened one to run away (if it can) and you can pick up the dominant one if it is tame. Without blocking the sight of the other cat, picking up or even touching the aggressive cat can make the attack start. Usually the frightened cat is cornered and can’t get away, so your only option may be to move the aggressor after blocking it’s view.

Abscesses resulting from cat fights can pose serious health risks and are expensive to treat.

A cat can become infected with feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV) when it is bitten - such as in a cat fight. FIV will be transmitted only if the biting animal is carrying the virus.

There are some areas of the world that do not have FIV though it’s far better to be on the safe side. Having a well trained cat that comes with called is the best preventative way of stopping cat fights. If the cats that are fighting are both your cats it’s clearly a sign you need to make some changes to your household.

When cats are aggressive usually it’s because they are stressed. If the cat fights are the result of a new cat being introduced into your house you need to gradually introduce the cats to each other over the course of a few days and do your best to reduce the stress level of both cats.

To reduce your cat’s stress, provide lots of perches so she can get away from other cats, and ideally have separate areas of the house they can live in, until they start to accept the other cat.

Patting one cat just after you’ve patted the other cat is an easy way of having them start to associate the smell of the other cat with you. This is vital as they’ll be relaxed and enjoy your company (if they don’t you’ve got bigger problems, be sure to read our other articles). They’ll then link the good feelings they have about you with the other cat.

Within a week or so you should have a happy multi cat household. The same method applies to introducing a dog into the house (or breaking up a cat and dog fight).

If your cat has been hurt you should get your Vet to check her over. With so many cats now living in urban environments, problems between cats of different owners are increasing. You may want to de claw your cat and keep her inside (or simply trim her nails every so often and supply scratching posts- this is cheaper and more humane for her).

Indoor cats have a much longer life span and you get to bond with her as she is around more often. A well trained cat can be allowed outside but tends to want to be close to you most of the time. Something you can do to help this occur is to tell your neighbors to not feed your cat, that way even if your cat wonders she’ll most likely come home when she’s hungry.

10 Website Sins and How to Avoid Them

Your Website stinks, if you have committed any one of the 10 Website Sins listed in this article. They not only turn your visitors away, but can also prove fatal for the life of your Website. This is especially true if you plan to make some money from it!

1. The biggest problem for many years is waiting for your Website to download and open the page. There are countless times I have not bothered waiting and closed the browser Window. Do not assume all your visitors are on Broadband, because the bulk of people on the Internet still use dial-up connections.
If you have to display videos, let the visitor decide whether to play them and do not let them load automatically.

If you have a Flash intro, put a visible bypass link to allow people to get to the meat of your Website without wasting time watching your granny in the garden.
When your Website is media-rich, let your Home Page be a simple choice for the visitor to select either Broadband or Dial-up.

2. The second reason your Website stinks is if your message is not immediately obvious. I want to know—within the first couple of seconds your page opens—exactly what it is you do, offer, or sell. Define the purpose of your Website, then write a strong headline message, and feature this in the Home Page title, description, and page heading.

3. Do not attack me with multi-colour Website, or one with an extremely dark background and weird, light-coloured text. In the early days of Websites, some pitiful techie gave out the information that on computer screens it was easier to read text if it was white on a dark background.

You may even be old enough to remember the DOS writing software called WordStar, which featured white text on blue background; in fact, you can still use this effect on most word processing software today.

However, the truth of the matter is that everybody prefers black text on white background; yes, I know there are exceptions to every rule but if you are going to sell to that tiny market sector, you going to go broke very quickly!

4. If your page opened quickly on my browser, and within a couple of seconds I understood exactly what your Website offers in a natural colour scheme that was attractive to me and 6 billion others, I may try to open another page.
This is often the fourth reason why your Website stinks, because you make it far too difficult for me to:

a) find out where I can go, and

b) get there!

You will hide your navigation stuff right down at the bottom of a horribly long page, and then make the links in the smallest possible text. Worse, you use evil looking graphic buttons with strange pictures and unknown text that I can never decipher.

Let me give you a free, hot tip that not many people know—your links to other pages on your Website are usually keywords. Ah! The light is beginning to dawn, because keywords are the little things that Search Engine spiders look for and gobble up before indexing your page, or rushing home and telling daddy Google there is nothing to eat!

Therefore, to give yourself a chance of a listing, use text links at the top and the left of your Website, and use your keywords as links. Make it the same on every page and be consistent, do not make me have to search for it, because I won’t—I will simply close the browser.

5. While I am on the subject of your hyperlinks, please make sure that they are all active and point to the right information on the correct page. You can close browsers so quickly, and sent all your visitors away—never to return—when your navigation links don’t work!

6. There are a lot of very clever people and more than a few billionaires who do not know how to spell, and have no idea of good grammar. However, that is no excuse for you to publish Websites with pages crammed with errors of this nature. Even the most simple of word processors has a spell-check button and frequently a grammar check that you can easily apply.

If this subject is totally beyond you, find somebody who can do it for you; and don’t be a cheapskate and ask your best mate, look online and get it done by a professional.

7. Do you know what makes your Website really stink? It is when I keep finding pages listed as under-construction; often with cute little cartoon pictures of men in hard hats digging holes or building skyscrapers. I am not interested in seeing pages with nothing on them so do not even upload them or publish them on the Internet. Just write the full page and then shove it online and you will have happy little visitors who may even return.

8. Who are you? What on earth is the point of publishing a great Website on how to play par golf every round, if I don’t know who you are, where you have your office, and how to get in touch with you?

You can put these details at the bottom of your pages, or better still have a nice little text link on your navigation bar that simply says ‘Contact’ and I will know what it means. This page can include a lot of useful information that not only gives your Website some credibility, sadly lacking from the mauve background with yellow text, but tells me exactly what I want to know.

Do not confuse ‘Contact’ with ‘About’, because the ‘About’ page is to provide me with information About the Website, its objectives, the information it provides, and its authors and contributors.

9. I am really choked with I return to your Website and find dusty old pages covered in cobwebs because you have not updated them for yonks. You might think spiders like cobwebs, and in real life they even make them, but if a Google spider finds them on your Website it will scurry home to tell daddy and you may lose your listing. If you have a rank, you will certainly slide down a notch or two, so keep your pages filled with new information, and update it regularly.

10. The final point that makes your Website stink is when the information and advice you offer is not relevant or useful. I visit Websites to find information and solve problems, not to see funny little cartoons or quotations from Shakespeare because you like them.

Furthermore, write your copy just as if you were talking to me and avoid jargon—those words that only you and other ‘insiders’ understand. If you have to use a technical term, make sure you provide a full explanation of it.

So there you have it, 10 cosy little reasons why your visitors do not come back; so off you toddle and re-write your Website!

Is a Niche or General Web Directory Better - Which to Choose?

Web directories are listing of sites on the web. They usually are grouped together by categories and these can be generalized on a broad surface or a more specific surface.

A niche web directory is a web directory designed for a specific topic. All the topics and categories in that web directory are going to be related to the main topic in the directory.

A general web directory is just as it sounds. It provides a general listing of variety of topic that may or not be related to each other.

In order to decided which one to choose for your website you need to determine what you want to get out of the web directory. If you simply want a reliable site that has some back linking potential, a site that will be relevant totally to yours, that will help to generate content specific traffic, as well as attract people to your site. Then you most likely will want a niche directory. These sites help list sites that meet the needs of the searchers and a niche directory does just that.

The decision to pick a niche or general web directory is decided by the needs of your site and the type of traffic you want to generate to your site. More specific and relevant traffic comes from a niche directory and more general traffic comes from a general directory.

Both directories provide you with great results and both generate traffic to your site. One simply does a better job of getting to your targeted audience faster.

Only you can decide which directory is best for you. Either one will generate traffic or that of course, is what they are meant to do. Do you want a mixture of both? Use both then. There is nothing wrong with doing just that.

The Dachshund and Chihuahua House Training Dilemma

I use Dachshund and Chihuahua as a foundation for starters because my little dog, Hollie, I believe is part Dachshund and part Chihuahua. When I found her at a rescue, the information I received was that she was a four month old miniature Dachshund. But as she grew her legs got very long and her belly area became more concaved like a Chihuahua. I also found her mannerisms to be mixed between the two breeds as well. This included the dilemma of housebreaking.

Because the Dachshund is a strong working dog, they have a very willful personality. This tends to make them stubborn and/or independent. Although the Dachshund is trainable they may not be easy to train. As a matter of fact the Dachshund may attempt to train its trainer. The owner of this breed needs to be comfortable letting the dog know just who the “leader of the pack” really is. The stubborn temperament of this dog makes them resistant and not the easiest to house train. With positive and continual scheduling the Dachshund does learn and with a determined owner the Dachshund will develop the training quickly.

The fact that Chihuahuas are so small makes house training them a little challenging. Chihuahuas can hide under furniture or sneak into corners unnoticed and leave little surprise piles to be found at a later date. Patience will be needed in the house training process of this dog. The Chihuahua will learn quickly with positive reinforcement training. Some owners never get their Chihuahuas fully house trained especially in bad weather. The Chihuahua does not like the cold and tends to shiver. They do not like to get their feet wet so going outside to damp grown or wet grass deter the Chihuahua from going outside to potty.

In either dog breed there are two recommended training methods to house training your dog. The first is to crate train or confinement train your dog. The second is to paper or puppy pad train your dog. In either case, consistency is the essential key. Once a bad habit starts, it is much harder to break and retrain your dog.

Hollie, my Dachshund-Chihuahua has a little of both temperaments which has made house training her quite the challenge. She was originally paper trained when I got her. As she got a little older I put her in a pen during the day with a doggie door access to the outside. Hollie would use the carpet piece just inside the door as her potty. She did not like the grass because she was so small that the grass rubbed her belly. When the grass was watered she did not like getting her feet wet. So, when she did go outside she would use the patio instead of the grass and the carpet piece right outside the door as her potty. When she visited other homes she would go to another room and leave the owner a little surprise in the corners even though they had a doggie door she was able to use. As last winter set in the pen was too cold to keep her in and she was given a little more room to roam so to speak. Now she thinks the throw rugs are her bathroom area.

With this frustration at hand, I set out to find some answers. I never had a dog previously that had these issues. Once introduced to the doggie door the rest was a done deal. Not with Hollie! I found a training for dogs that has helped me to overcome Hollie’s behavior issues.

This training source I found has helped tremendeously in house training Hollie.

Self-Respect - Six Examples of How Learning to Respect Yourself Attracts Respect From Others

Too many people expect to be respected by others when they don’t act respectfully themselves. Once you learn to respect yourself, you will attract respect from others. Here are some guidelines for learning self-respect.

“I want him to respect me.”

“If people respect me, I’ll respect them.”

“My kids should respect me (it doesn’t matter how I treat them).”

If you don’t respect yourself, you’ll never respect others.

Self-Respecting People

1. Think about how their behavior affects the people around them

2. Consider what they say before blurting out hurtful words

3. Understand the Golden Rule according to Eugene Brown, LPC (my former supervisor and mentor): Do unto others as they need to be done unto

4. Seek first to understand, then to be understood (Stephen Covey, The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People)

5. Take responsibility for their behavior

6. Let go of the need to hold grudges

Let’s look at these six ideas about self-respect:

1. Think about how their behavior effects the people around them

Self-respecting people realize that they don’t live in a vacuum; their behavior affects others. They think about what they do and ask themselves, “How will my doing ________ affect the people I care about/my coworkers/others I come in contact with?” They weigh the consequences carefully before acting.

2. Consider what they say before blurting out hurtful words

When self-respecting people engage in disagreements with others, they act diplomatically. Yes, they experience anger just like the rest of us, but they choose their responses instead of allowing a knee-jerk reaction to determine what happens next. They realize that hurtful words won’t help their partner understand what is wrong and will harm the relationship.

3. Understand the Golden Rule according to Eugene Brown, LPC (my former supervisor and mentor): Do unto others as they need to be done unto

This ties into understanding that their behavior impacts others. They realize that just because they would like something done a certain way, that others may not agree. They take the time to learn how others need to be treated, rather than just using a “one size fits all” approach.

4. Seek first to understand, then to be understood (Stephen Covey, The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People)

Self-respecting people understand the value of active listening. They know that if people feel understood, then they are more likely to be willing to listen to another person’s point of view. Self-respecting people do not try to push their views on others to be understood first. They are willing to work to earn the other person’s respect and trust.

5. Take responsibility for their behavior

This means they are willing to admit when they are wrong. They feel comfortable with themselves and don’t feel threatened if they make a mistake. Their ego isn’t tied up in always needing to be right. This also means that the self-respecting person lets others be responsible for their behavior, letting go of the need to control them or change them.

6. Let go of the need to hold grudges

Self-respecting people realize that when they hold a grudge, they keep themselves locked into anger and resentment. They know they will keep growing as a person when they allow others to be responsible for their behavior instead of holding a grudge to try to make others change.
