Breastfeeding - The Ideal Schedule

Breastfeeding is the most natural thing a new mother can do for her baby. Breast milk is the best food for the newborn as it contains the perfect composition of fatty acid, glucose and protein its developing body and brain require.

Breastfeeding is also the most economical way to feed a baby. Breast milk is also always ready and a very ecological way to feed a baby as it involves no bottles or bags of any kind.

What is then the ideal schedule to have for a nursing a baby? The answer to this question might disappoint new mothers but in fact there are no schedules. The simple answer is that a nursing mother should adapt her schedule to the needs of her baby. A growing baby has different growing phases and may not show a regular schedule for the first few months.

Breastfeeding on demand is the best way to ensure that baby receives all he needs. The best way for a nursing mother is to put away her watch and clocks and get in tune with her baby.

It is recommended not to wait too long to feed the baby. Sometimes, when not fed rapidly, a baby can get very upset and cry profoundly and will have a harder time to breastfeed.

It is easier to put the baby to the breast when he is fully awake and showing movements of the mouth but not crying.

A nursing mother will greatly benefit from considering the breastfeeding time as occasions to relax and spend quality time with her baby rather than worry about her schedule being thrown off.

When a baby is born, it is recommended to breastfeed him in the first hour of life. Most babies during that hour will get calm and show chewing movements of the mouth or even move their head towards the mother’s breast.

Some people have ventured that the breast should be presented right after birth. In our experience, during the first seconds of extra-utero life, most babies are busy coughing and spitting-out the fluid that was in their lungs and mouth and will not be much interested in breastfeeding.

The best signs that breastfeeding is going well is if your baby sleep between feedings and wets his diapers.

Although breastfeeding on demand is the most recommended way of feeding a baby, one has to make the difference between a baby who is really feeding and one who is only using the breast for comfort.

When a baby is simply hatched-on the breast for cuddling, it is better to remove him from the breast. Most women give-up breastfeeding because they feel their baby is too often to their breast. If they could have made the difference between real feedings and just cuddling, they might have kept breastfeeding for a longer period.

As for anything else, getting the proper rest and keeping herself well hydrated is a must for the nursing mother.

Moving Checklist - Two Weeks Before Moving

Moving can be one of the most stressful events in our lives. By getting organized and planning ahead, you can prepare your family for a smooth move. A successful move starts with planning and organizing. Following is a checklist of items to consider two weeks before moving.

Two Weeks Before Moving

  • Arrange for help with your children and pets on your moving day.
  • Confirm any travel reservations.
  • Reserve an elevator if moving from an apartment.
  • Have your appliances serviced for moving.
  • Clean rugs and clothing and have them wrapped for moving.
  • Plan ahead for special needs of infants.
  • Close bank accounts and have your funds wired to your new bank. Make sure there are no outstanding checks or automatic payments that haven’t been processed yet.
  • Make copies of any important documents before mailing or hand carry them to your new address.
  • Check with your insurance agent to ensure you’ll be covered through your homeowner’s or renter’s policy during the move.
  • Defrost the freezer and refrigerator. Place deodorizer inside to control odors.
  • Give a close friend or relative your travel route and schedule so you may be reached if needed.
  • Arrange for disposal of anything not sold at your moving sale.
  • Take your car in for servicing in preparation for the move. Let the service technician know if you are moving to a different climate so your car will be properly prepared.
  • Return any borrowed items, such as library books.
  • Notify creditors of your move.
  • Cancel any newspaper deliveries.
  • Make sure you have an adequate supply of medications on hand and transfer prescriptions.
  • Mail change-of-address cards to family and friends.
  • Pick up dry cleaning, anything you may have loaned to friends, empty safe deposit boxes, etc.
  • File your change of address form at the post office.
  • Pack a travel bag with critical items, such as your checkbook, credit cards, phone numbers and contact information, toiletries, travel alarm clock, medications, first aid supplies, games and toys for the kids, etc.

One Day Before Moving

  • Take pets to your veterinarian for immunizations, if necessary.
  • Find new homes for plants that will not be moved.
  • Have the movers pack your belongings (unless you’ve handled your own packing).
  • Make sure you have cash or travelers checks for the trip.
  • Call the moving company to confirm their arrival time.
  • If moving yourself, dismantle beds and other large furniture.

Use this moving checklist as a guideline for tasks to complete two weeks before moving.

Giving Intentions Stickiness

Each year hundreds upon thousands of us start the New Year off by making resolutions with great excitement and the feeling that this year’s going to be different from last. This year, we recommit to following through and we swear that we are going to stick with our resolutions.

Well, that seems great in theory for most of us…Then life happens, we get back in to the day-to-day and our New Year’s resolutions often get cast aside like an old, dirty shirt. If this sounds familiar to you don’t be too hard on yourself…I promise it happens to the best of us!

OK, so knowing that what can we do to make our resolutions/intentions stick this year?

Here are just a few tips to support you in making your intentions sticky. Please bear in mind that these tips are in no particular order and I encourage you to use any or all of them…whatever is going to help you be successful with your intentions.

First, it is really important to get clear around your intentions and to be specific… the more specific the better. For example, if your intention is to lose weight, give that weight a number. It’s not enough just to say, “I will lose weight this year.” Provide yourself with something that has, what I like to call, “hang-on ability”…that’s something that feels real and when you think about it you get excited and want to hang on to it and the feeling it provokes. In other words, something you can hang on to because it is tangible to you!

2) During the initial intention setting, while you are getting clear and capturing your intentions it is important not to worry about the “how” your intention(s) will manifest themselves. That can detract from the intention setting and may act as an obstacle or a deterrent. You know the old, “I can’t do this..who I am I kidding?” syndrome. Try and remember the how is up to the universe to figure out. Your job is to be clear around your intentions and ask for what you want.

3) Also, be prepared to make a commitment to yourself and your intentions. Feel the intention(s) as if it has already become a reality. If it helps, create a vision board with pictures that resonate around your intention(s) that you can look at everyday. I have a beautiful vision board above my desk and it spurs positive feelings every time I look at the pictures on it.

If you are one that can visualize easily, visualize the fruition of your intention. Visualize living it! Remember, the brain, while it is an amazing wonder, cannot differentiate between what is real and what is visualized.

4) Once you visualize or have your vision board created, lock into the positive feelings that your vision board and/or visualization creates. You can even create a mantra/affirmation around your intentions that will help you stay charged. An important key to remember is to be sure your mantra/affirmation is in the present tense and positive, not expressing lack or negativity. For example, using the weight theme again, an affirmation can be… I am always able to maintain my ideal weight of 140. I am fit, trim, and healthy.

5) Write it all down, intentions, mantras and all. Be sure to re-read what you have written often. I recommend reading your intentions and affirmations 10 times a day; five times in the morning, before your feet hit the floor and five times before you drift off to sleep at night.

6) Really important, be present and in the present moment. Remember, it is up to the universe to help you decipher the “how” to achieving what you want, but in order for you to receive the “how” you must be present. That means not worrying about how your intentions will ever come to be, or worrying about the past or worrying about the future…just be present.

7) Often when we are intention setting we may become aware of obstacles or tolerations. That’s a good thing! If you find there are obstacles or tolerations standing in your way you will want to find ways to remove them so you can move forward and flow with your intentions.

If it is fear or self doubt standing in your way, tap into the fear and find out where it is coming from. Is it coming from your head or your heart? Most likely it is coming from your head, which is where fear often resides. What always helps me to deal with fear is to take a deep breath, and focus on my heart because that is often where the truth resides, and then I say (out loud) my mantra/affirmation.

Here is something I have also found very helpful…

8) Break your intentions down into bite-sized pieces and set some target dates for achievement. One of the main reasons intentions do not come to fruition is because we try to accomplish a huge intention in one go and that can be very overwhelming and discouraging. So, if your intention is to lose 50 pounds start with a smaller intention, for example to lose 10 pounds in five weeks and give it a date. Then each week set an action that will help you to achieve the weight loss. The first week could be committing to eating more veggies or exercising for an hour 3 days a week. INTENTION + ACTION = RESULTS

Most importantly, be sure to CELEBRATE each bite-sized intention you accomplish. Celebrating not only helps to make the process fun, but it keeps you motivated. Treat yourself to a soak in the tub, a night out at the movies. The celebration does not have to break the bank, but should be something you enjoy and a way to celebrate you and what you have accomplished.

9) Express gratitude for the intention(s) as if they have already been accomplished. Using the weight lose example again, one could say, “I am so grateful for my fit and trim body”. Being in “attitude of gratitude” not only helps to alleviate fear and bring us into the present moment, but it helps raise our energy level. Positive attracts positive so if we can remain positive around our intentions we can help set them into motion.

10) Develop an intention team. Find people who you can share your intentions with. Sharing is critical. When you share you are not only helping to make them real, but you open yourself up to all sorts of potentials. Remember, friends want us to be happy and successful so you may find that they have ideas and or means to help make your intention a reality. Also, don’t be afraid to ask your intention team to support you by holding you accountable to the action items you set.

And lastly, believe in YOU! There is nothing you can’t do.

Poker Party Games for Everyone, Young and Old

Ah, there’s nothing like good poker party games to keep you and the guests entertained at your next poker themed party. Keep in mind that a little variety can make your party even better.

Senior Poker:

Say you invite a lot of guests to your poker party games? You can use that large number of people to create separate categories of games. Silly games for the very young kids at the party and a special senior poker table for the elders at your poker party games. Go ahead and set up a tournament of seniors to see which of the older guests at the party have more of the skill of the game over their long years. Set an age requirement so the young folks at the party don’t try to get in on the game.

Rummy:

This is a good card game for people to start playing at your poker party games when they start to get tired of poker or just don’t feel inclined to bet on a game. Rummy is traditionally played with four to six players but you can get a game going with just two or three. Plus it’s a long lasting game so you don’t need to keep going on round after round unless you want too.

Set up these poker party games by dealing out seven cards to each player and putting the rest of the deck in the center of the table at your poker party games. This will be the deck you draw new cards from. Take the top card from the deck and place it face up beside the deck. The object of the game is to make matches of three like cards or three sequential cards in a deck. Each player gets a turn to place any card they want from their hand next to the card that’s placed face up and draw a new card from the deck. If another player wants cards from the discards they can pick it up, any other cards that are placed on top of it. When a play makes a matching set they use their turn to place it down on the table in front of them.
The first player to get rid of his or her hand is the poker party games winner. Count up all the matching sets to see how many points you’ve earned; one through ten is worth five points and court cards are worth ten, fifteen points for the Aces.

These two games will make your next poker party games a great hit. Use them wisely and have a fun time.

Five Essential Strategies for Managing Up

The game you once played on the school playground is now the game you play daily in the corporate jungle.

Remember tetherball? There’s a tall metal pole planted firmly in the ground with a long cord attached at the top. At the other end of the cord the ball is tied. No matter how hard you hit the ball, which direction it’s headed or how fast it’s going, the ball remains attached to the pole. The same goes for your relationship with your boss—and you can guess which one of you is the pole and which one is the ball.

For as long as you’re in the game, you’re firmly attached to your boss, to his history, reputation, politics, choices, and to some extent his future. How closely you entwine yourself with your boss will affect your reputation and will have a major influence on what you can accomplish on the job and where your career goes.

There are five laws that you absolutely must follow if you have any hope of creating, maintaining, and managing any productive relationship with your boss:

· Never outshine the master: You’re making a big mistake if you’re outsmarting, outwitting, or outmaneuvering your boss. Always do your best, but do it in a way that complements your boss’ strengths.

· Make your boss look good: Engaging in a smart game of professional flattery positions you as a person who is not only ambitious, but also supports company objectives.

· Exceed expectations: If your achievements make your boss look great, she won’t see you as a competitor but as an indispensable member of the team.

· Bring solutions, not problems: The smartest way to succeed and get promoted is to be the person that your boss looks to first when there is something that needs to be done, managed, or fixed.

· Protect your boss’ back: First, keep confidential any professional or personal issues that might reflect negatively on your boss. Second, stand in for your boss without hesitation if he is ever unavailable—but be sure to give him credit. Finally, never use your position to trade information.

Aloha Party Games to Say Hello

Planning a tropical themed party requires a great set of Aloha party games. Here are a couple games that will get your party going.

Hawaiian Fish Relay:

For these Aloha party games set up a circle made of chalk or tape. Before the tropical party create three separate groups of 10 pieces of paper fish. Tell your guests that all the paper fish have popped out of the sea and need to be put back into the ocean which is the circle. The players will fan them back in again with a simple paper fan you make. The separate groups of 10 fish should be different colors, one for each of the three teams.

You can have the creation of the paper fans before the game starts as a separate fun activity. Decorate them with some fun seashells and fish to help them look more Aloha themed for the Aloha party games. The players can keep their fans and take them home as mini party favors.

Set up the game by scattering the colored fish around the outside of the circle. Line up each of the three teams equidistance from the circle in three straight lines. Each player stands ready with their own fans and at your ‘go’ the first player in each group will run forward to start fanning fish back into the circle. Give each player 15 seconds to fan the fish back before he or she must run to the back of their group and have the next person start fanning fish. The first group in the Aloha party games to completely fan all of their fish back is the winners.

Water Volleyball:

If you have a pool you can get the blood pumping with these fun Volleyball Aloha party games. It’s an especially great game to play with kids and older people because the water cushions the guests as they move around. Get some inflatable sets for the older guests at your party and the kids will love hitting an inflatable ball around. Water Volleyball is just like regular volleyball so you’ll have an easy time explaining the rules at you Aloha party games. Just get two teams of three to six players and have some fun.

These two games are bound to make your Aloha party games a fun time for all. The kids will love the activity and you’ll love having an activity that can keep guests entertained.

What to Look For in a Cosmetic Dentist

We need to remember that we’ll be entrusting an important part of our lives to the dentist we choose: our facial appearance and smile. Choosing the wrong cosmetic dentist could mean disaster, so it’s worth taking a little time to make an informed decision, and not accepting the first dentist who seems like a nice person, or the one with the most convenient location.

Gather a list of names from family and friends, co-workers, neighbors, the phone book, and even an online search. When you have a good list in hand, check out a few things about the cosmetic dentist and the practice before you call to schedule an initial consultation.

Check the Professional Affiliations

An experienced cosmetic dentist will belong to at least one professional association, and preferably several, including the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (AACD). Such memberships are useful in many ways: they help the dentist stay in touch with his or her peers, keep up with the latest technology and techniques, and keep to good ethical and professional standards. Many established cosmetic dentists also belong to one or more local organizations, or sponsor local events. Even try calling your State Licensing Board to see if anyone has filed a complaint against the dentists you’re considering.

Experience is Key

You won’t want to choose a dentist who’ll be experimenting or practicing on your teeth. Look at how long the dentist has been in practice. Ask how many times he or she has performed the procedures you’re interested in having done. Cosmetic dentistry is a mix of art and science. It requires something of an artistic eye, from judging the right shade of porcelain for your veneers to the best way to recontour your gums. An experienced cosmetic dentist will be looking at your entire face, your personality, even your coloring, and making dental decisions that will enhance your total appearance.

During Your Initial Consultation

Schedule several of these consultations, and take a written list of questions to each one. As you talk to the cosmetic dentist, briefly write down his/her responses. If you don’t understand a response, ask more questions until you do. You want to choose a dentist who has time for you, who listens to your goals and concerns, and who wants you to fully understand the procedures you are interested in having done. The cosmetic dentist should be willing to discuss the advantages and disadvantages of any cosmetic procedure as well.

While you’re having your consultation, glance around the facilities, and even ask for a brief tour. Ask questions to yourself. Does the staff seem content and competent? Are the cosmetic dentist and staff friendly to you? Does the dentist seem to relate well to the staff? Does the office seem well-organized and clean? Do you feel comfortable being there?

Code of Ethics

In your search for the right cosmetic dentist, if anything makes you pause and wonder about a dentist’s ethics, move to the next name on your list. Remember how important your smile is in your daily life, so take time in choosing the cosmetic dentist who seems most qualified on every count. We need to do our research and trust our instinct when it comes to choosing a cosmetic dentist who can help us achieve a new smile.

3 Easy Ways To Lose Weight

Is there an easy way to lose weight? That’s usually the question on most people’s minds this time of year as we hurdle towards bathing suit season. Often, just the thought of losing weight makes people think of deprivation diets and painful stomach rumblings.

But weight loss doesn’t have to be like that.

There are several easy ways to lose weight. Many slim people know about them and use them this time of year to take the weight off rapidly without a lot of fuss or hassle. This article will review 3 of these ways, giving you a bit about each.

As always, consult your doctor or health care team before making any changes to your diet and/or lifestyle.

#1 Hoodia Gordonii

Hoodia is a natural appetite suppressant that tricks your brain into thinking that you’re full and turns off the desire to overeat. It not only helps turn off physical hunger but many people also report that they do not even have the desire to overeat, which makes it REALLY easy to lose weight.

Hoodia is a natural plant extract from the South African desert and has been declared safe to take by experts. It has also been eaten by the South African tribesman for years with no ill effects.

Compared to synthetic diet pills that can make you all jittery and nervous (and may cause serious side effects), Hoodia Gordonii is an excellent natural alternative. People taking it have reported losing up to 5-7 pounds per week.

The only downside is that the market is flooded with ‘fake’ Hoodia. Because there is too much demand and not enough supply (Hoodia plants take approximately 4-7 years to mature), a lot of companies are using fake Hoodia and/or not putting enough Hoodia into their pills.

If you end up buying a poor brand of Hoodia, it won’t work for you and you’ll have wasted your money. So be careful when shopping to buy from a company that uses South African Hoodia Gordonii and offers you certification like their C.I.T.E.S. certificate and lab analysis. If you do your research ahead of time, you’ll be much more likely to find pure Hoodia and get the weight loss results you want.

#2 Weight Loss Patch

Weight loss patches are growing in popularity because they’re easy to use, often work better than pills and offer a great variety of fat burning ingredients.

Weight loss patches work by decreasing your appetite and/or increasing your metabolism or both. Instead of taking something through your mouth, a weight loss patch is placed on the skin and delivers it’s ingredients transdermally (through your skin).

For many people with compromised digestive systems, this can be a better way of absorbing the fat-burning ingredients into their system.

You can get weight loss patches that offer Hoodia, green tea, caffeine, guarana, fucus vesiculosus (a natural seaweed that boosts your thyroid) and other fat burning ingredients.

It’s important to choose a weight loss patch that only has ingredients you feel comfortable with (for example, if caffeine makes you feel jumpy, avoid those weight loss patches that use green tea and/or caffeine.)

The beauty of a weight loss patch is that it’s working to help you lose weight while you’re going about your daily business. How easy is that?

#3 Diet Home Delivery

Diet delivery is becoming an extremely popular way for busy people to lose weight. These days, we may want to eat better - but really, who has the time? It’s so much easier to have the food prepared for you.

Many popular diets are offering their diet food delivered straight to your door. You pay a monthly fee and you either get the food delivered weekly or daily to your door.

Unlike in the past, diet delivery is actually quite affordable due to companies growing and buying in bulk. Many plans start at around $15-25 a day for all 3 meals.

Plus it’s extremely convenient. In most cases you just take out your meal from the fridge or freezer, follow the heating instructions for 5-10 minutes and eat. Diet delivery is like having a dietitian or personal chef helping you lose weight.

So those are 3 easy way to lose weight. They give many people that extra push that is often needed when it comes to weight loss. Remember however that the easiest way to lose weight is found when you match the right plan to your lifestyle and unique tastes. Choose a weight loss plan that gets you excited and motivated - you’ll have much better (and probably faster) results!

Hawaiian Party Games to Keep Anyone Interested

Hawaiian party games don’t necessarily require a luau to be played, just some warm weather and plenty of friends.

Aloha Name Ripple:

You can use these Hawaiian party games to help the guests get to know each other at the Hawaiian event. Plus its very easy so you don’t have to explain a lot of rules. Basically the game involves saying someone’s name, along with ‘Aloha’ while making a dance motion. Put everyone in a circle an arm’s length apart.

You can start the Hawaiian party games by saying a guest’s name at random along with ‘Aloha’ and performing a Hula dance motion. For example, you can yell ‘Aloha, Ralph’ and swing your arms forward and up above your head slowly in a Hula motion. The game works well with some Hawaiian party music playing in the background.

The person to your left will repeat this motion with Ralph’s name and the next person and the next until it gets to Ralph. Ralph will pick someone else’s name and perform a different Hula motion and the new motion will be repeated until the ‘Aloha Name Ripple’ gets to the next person named. Keep up the game until everyone at the Hawaiian party games is named.

Hawaiian Knots:

One very close and probably one of the more interesting Hawaiian party games, Hawaiian Knots makes a fun puzzle game. Get all of the players to stand in a circle with hands placed in the center of the group. These Hawaiian party games can only be used for ten people at the most because the circle gets too big for everyone to hold hands eventually. Have the players close their eyes and hold hands with one of the many other hands in the circle. They have to keep eyes closed as they are doing this. Plus don’t let them try to get away with holding hands with someone next to them or even trying to hold their own hands

All the guests can open their eyes and try to undo the Hawaiian party games knot that’s been created by moving around to get back into a circle with everyone holding hands. Keep it fun and don’t stress out if you can’t undo the knot.

With these two Hawaiian party games you’ll have an easy time keeping the guests interested and entertained at your next tropical outdoor event. They will help to add an extra dimension to the party.

Mrs. Party… Gail Leino takes a common sense approach to planning and organizing events, celebrations and holiday parties with unique ideas for Hawaiian party supplies and fun free educational party games. Help, I’m Stuck and Going in Circles

Sometimes it is all too easy to fall into the feelings of being a flop or defective because a clear direction is no where in sight. Those feelings can come from internal and external pressures. It would seem that society expects one to have a course mapped out, one that covers from the time you are born to the time you depart this earth.

Now, I am not saying that having goals, aspirations, or even a plan is a bad thing. What I am saying is this; it is OK to be an explorer, to try different things, to pursue different dreams and potentials. In doing so, that is when we often find what we are most passionate about.

If you are feeling stuck, lacking direction, or passion for what you do, I would like to offer the following as supportive suggestions:

1) Be loving and compassionate to yourself. Beating yourself up for not having a plan is not going to help much and most likely will serve as an obstacle.

2) Be very present! That means not getting too caught up in the future or the past, but being in the here and now. Being present supports you in seeing what is happening in the here and now that may ignite a fire for you.

3) Set goals/intentions that are integrity based…meaning you know in your heart those intentions/goals are the right ones for you.

4) Try and get very clear on what you DO want in your life and what you DON’T want. THEN…

5) Establish some action items to support you in getting what you want. For example, if your passion is to become the next bestselling author, set some short-term, forward moving goals/intentions to support you in achieving that passion.

6) Remove the things from your life that you do not want, things that weigh you down, hold you back, and things you are tolerating. Using the author example, if your office is a mess and not supporting you in writing your best seller, set an intention to clear it.

7) Be open to possibilities. The course you may choose to travel initially might not be the course that will ultimately get you to your desired designation. Know that it is OK to choose another course.

8) Find someone to support you and hold you accountable.

I can tell you this, you are worth it, and you deserve to have all that you desire!
