Burst Underground Water Pipes

During cold weather, not only can inside water pipes freeze up and burst, so can underground water pipes. For some projects, this means you either need open cut repair work done or horizontal directional drilling. Or course with either method, or even if you want to try to repair damage yourself, you need to call ahead and have utilities mark the ground before you dig, to avoid cutting utility lines: electricity, cable, phone, and other companies.

Open Cut Repairs

Open cut repair work is the old fashioned way; dig a whole, mess up the yard and landscaping, complete the repairs, fill in the hole and go. For this type work, you would need to call general contractors by seeking referrals from neighbors and friends, looking in the Yellow Pages or other advertising materials you have locally, or check with your local hardware for recommendations.

Gather bids from a couple of different sources to compare. And check their credentials, references and previous work by following up with phone calls before hiring.

Horizontal Directional Drilling

To avoid so much damage to your property and landscaping, you may want to check into horizontal directional drilling (HDD) contractors in your area. With HDD, the repair equipment sits stationary off to the side of your work area, while long, horizontal piping drills head on into the area for repair work, similar to a surgeon using tools to operate. Results are repairs with little to no damage to the outside are surrounding the project.

To see if this horizontal type of drilling would work for your own situation, contractors would check the following information:

  • They would need to know the required slope of the project and could work with your local contact to determine this.
  • They would need to know if the area’s geotechnical situation or condition was right for the project and would know how to check this out.
  • They would need to make sure your municipality permitted this type of work, and would know who to contact to find out.
  • They would need to know if this work would interfere with any municipal services or utilities that are already existing and would also know how to find this information out.

So before you dive in to repair burst underground water pipes, even if you know how, call all utilities first to get ground marked. And if you do need help, get some!

The Top Five Things to Consider When Buying a Storage Shed

If you’ve just made the decision to invest in a storage building, congratulations! There is, however, one important point you should know before you lock yourself in to a specific model or brand: Not all storage sheds are created equal.

How do you know if you’re getting the most storage shed bang for your buck? By evaluating whether the storage building you have your eye on meets or exceeds the following specifications.

  • Does the storage shed’s entryway allow for easy and accommodating access? Even the highest quality storage building is useless if it doesn’t accommodate your storage needs. Double-wide doors that measure 64 inches across will afford ease of entry for most riding lawn tractors and other oversized storage equipment.
  • Does your storage shed of choice come with a warranty? If the storage building you’re considering doesn’t come with at least a 2-year warranty, you could very well be throwing money down the drain. Protect your storage shed investment with a manufacturer’s written guarantee.

  • Are the storage building’s structural framing and shingles built to last? Durable, weather-proof shingles will protect your storage shed (and its storage contents) for years to come. Similarly, a storage building with heavy-duty 2×4 double top plating will withstand even the harshest wind and snow elements…both extremely important if you reside in a area that’s exposed to harsh weather conditions.

  • What type of flooring comes standard on the storage shed? If you’re evaluating the cosmetic exterior of your storage building only, you’re making a big mistake. That’s because a poor foundation sets you up for not only moisture problems (which can wreak havoc on your expensive storage equipment) but also invites insects (which can damage the entire framework of your storage shed). A sturdy, OSB floor with 40-year pressure-treated floor joists and 4×4 runners is optimal in any storage building.

  • How well is the storage building’s door hinges reinforced? This storage shed specification is also often overlooked as inconsequential, but if you want to keep your storage building’s door straight and properly aligned for years to come, you’ll want to look for continuous full-length galvanized steel hinges and engineered wood door stiffeners.

Is Irritable Bowel Syndrome Worth America’s Research Dollars?

The recent past has leveled a heavy blow to hundreds of thousands of people who suffer from Irritable Bowel Syndrome. Novartis was asked to halt its sales of Zelnorm, at least in the United States. Used mostly by women for the treatment of IBS symptoms, the removal of Zelnorm leaves the pool of available treatments for irritable bowel syndrome virtually empty.

The FDA made the request after review of 29 studies that showed that 0.11% of patients taking Zelnorm experienced cardiovascular ischemic events including: myocardial infarction, stroke, and unstable angina pectoris, compared with 0.01% of patients treated with a placebo. The data, which was reviewed by independent experts, showed that events occurred in 13 out of 11,614 patients treated with Zelnorm/Zelmac (0.11%), compared to one case in 7,031 placebo-treated patients (0.01%). All patients affected had pre-existing cardiovascular disease and/or CV risk factors. Although the numbers are small the FDA deems them statistically significant.

Novartis has suspended the marketing, sales and distribution of Zelnorm in response to the FDA’s request, so that public discussion and an Advisory Committee meeting can take place to determine the risks and benefits of this medicine.

So where does that leave those that suffer from IBS? Approximately 12 million Americans alone suffer from some form of Irritable Bowel Syndrome, yet there is still no push by the government at this time to mandate or back any substantial research. It seems to me that it should be more then mildly apparent to those in the research field that IBS poses more then just a minor threat to our national economy by virtue of, if nothing else, lost work days. Not to mention the impact it has on quality of life for those that are afflicted.

To put a total figure on the number of workdays lost due to work absences could run into hundreds of millions of days each year. With that many lost work days by an estimated 12 million US workers, it is bound to have a major impact on the GNP. Although exact figures are not available, it doesn’t take a genius to figure out the loss runs into billions of dollars each and every year.

Yes, it is true that IBS is a non-fatal disorder but the fact is, at least for those that suffer; the symptoms they deal with on a daily basis dramatically diminish their overall health and quality of life.

The US Government set up a website in 2000 for the listing and tracking of federally and industry funded research projects, the list also contains projects funded by foreign governments and companies as well. You can view it at http://www.centerwatch.com/

Every IBS sufferer should have a look at the Center Watch website, but if you don’t have the time, I can save you the trouble. There are currently over 1000 research projects in clinical trials for different intestinal diseases and disorders. Worldwide, only 30 of these studies are for Irritable Bowel Syndrome. Of those 30 studies, only one is funded directly by the United States Federal Government and two others have some indirect sponsoring by federal funds. All the rest are sponsored by either pharmaceutical companies or by foreign governments.

Now those figures in and of themselves might seem significant, that is until you put them along side some other figures such as how many other medical research studies there are that draw federal funds. It really is amazing where the money goes.

For comparisons sake, there are 112 studies currently under way for inflammatory bowel diseases, such as Crohn’s Disease and Ulcerative Colitis. Most of these projects were funded by some form of federal money. That kind of gives you an idea where IBS stands in the overall research money picture.

Other, more obscure maladies and diseases seem to get the greatest number of funded studies. Take Intestinal Neoplasms for instance. It has 363 clinical studies, primarily government funded. So what do Intestinal Neoplasms have that Irritable Bowel Syndrome doesn’t? Intestinal Neoplasms can be or might lead to certain types of cancer that possibly could have a certain mortality rate. What is that mortality rate and how many people nationwide or even worldwide are affected?

Those figures I found to be very elusive. Most of the literature I was able to find states it as a rarely encountered clinical condition (to paraphrase information by the National Library of Medicine and the National Institutes of Health). Rare or very uncommon were words most used in the information describing it. I wasn’t able to find any actual figures as to what percentage of the population might be affected. But because it might cause a death, it becomes of great study funding importance.

The more I looked through the Centerwatch.com site, the more frustrated I became. Please don’t get me wrong, I do most whole heartedly believe that life is precious, and that preventing death is of the utmost importance. When I see over 850 studies for leukemia almost totally funded by federal funds, I feel it is money well spent, for a notable and worthy cause fighting a disease that affects humanity in such a horrible manner.

There are tens probably hundreds of thousands of medical research projects being conducted at any given time, that our government sees fit to endorse and in many cases even support. To say which studies have merit and which do not, is probably beyond the scope of any one persons ability to determine. But when I see 49 studies for something like Dermatitis of which half are either directly or indirectly funded with federal funds, it causes me pause.

For me at least it raises the question of why is it that Dermatitis gets more studies and funding then Irritable Bowel Syndrome. In my perception IBS is much more easily perceived as being of consequence by nature of its drain on our national economy not to mention its detriment to the quality of life for sufferers then is Dermatitis. It may be because Dermatitis is in many cases is outwardly visible; affecting the acuity our nation seems to have about beauty.

It amazes me that quality of life seems to be so unimportant in the research field. Three things come to mind in all of this; death, beauty and money (not necessarily in that order). Suffering seems to fall far below these factors. Yes I am biased, because I suffer with Irritable Bowel Syndrome. And it never ceases to amaze me at how something which has such undeniable impact on the lives of millions of people, can slip through the research and funding cracks so easily.

If you suffer from IBS the statistics that I have presented at the very least should concern you. Hopefully they have infuriated you enough to make your voice heard. Irritable Bowel Syndrome doesn’t have a cure; it doesn’t have any known or widely determined beneficial treatment. It doesn’t even have a well defined causation. It doesn’t have a lot of things. What it does have is a lack of support in the medical community for the implementation of studies and the acquisition of funding, even though it is currently one of the most reported medical conditions in the United States today.

Its time for IBS sufferers to stand up and be counted among those that are deserving of consideration when it comes to finding treatments and cures because the statistics on IBS overall are quite staggering. While the effects of IBS don’t kill us, and for the most part are invisible to the world around us, we tend to suffer in silence. Its time for that silence to be broken, its time for our voices to be heard in the halls of Congress, its time for Irritable Bowel Syndrome sufferers to take a stand and yell out to the world that we are worthy of consideration. We have the right to a better quality of life. We deserve to be free of the limitations that IBS places on us. It’s time to stop suffering in silence and take action.

If everyone who suffers from IBS would make one phone call, write one letter, send one email to their state representatives or to their congressman, I can all but guarantee that a resounding positive and immediate action would take place. Millions and millions of letters, emails and phone calls to the offices of our elected officials would not be ignored, could not be ignored.

If the facts presented stirred you even a little, take the time to do one of the three things mentioned; letter, email or phone call. By your voices being heard, collectively we can affect change in the way IBS is viewed in manner of importance relative to its detriment on overall quality of life. If you took the time to read this article, then it was important to you. It’s equally important to you to take action. Don’t wait.

The mission of IBS Help Site is to bring to light any new developments that may have a positive influence for those that suffer from Irritable Bowel Syndrome. If you or someone you know has IBS then it will be worth your time to spend a moment or two and view the site at http://ibshelpsite.com/.

Make Money on eBay - You Need Your Resale Products Quickly

Locating the right suppliers for products takes time, energy and perseverance. Often sellers who want to make money on eBay are so relieved when they finally locate the supplier they are seeking that they step back and breathe a sigh of relief without realizing that their job is not finished.

Many sellers don’t realize that once products are located there are other challenges just waiting to be addressed. Successfully resolving those challenges is key to sellers having the ability to make money on eBay. Those challenges are freight costs and timely delivery of the products that are being purchased for resale.

The first obstacle to overcome with delivery is pricing. To make money on eBay requires that everything possible be done to minimize freight costs. As fuel prices continue to increase, freight becomes a bigger and bigger part of the overall cost of merchandise. Sellers need to look to their suppliers to do everything possible to keep freight costs down. Sellers should also work to do everything that they can to minimize freight costs. That includes ensuring there is never empty space on a pallet. It also includes negotiating with freight companies to reduce freight costs.

The other piece of the freight equation is the speed of delivery. Once you have paid for the merchandise, it is money that you need to turn around to invest in new merchandise as quickly as possible. It does you no good to pay for freight and then have it sitting in someone’s warehouse. To that end expect your suppliers to ship immediately upon receipt of payment. Track your incoming shipments to ensure delays are minimized. It is impossible to make money on eBay if freight is not on hand and ready to ship once items have been sold on eBay.

Sellers need to ensure that they recognize the importance of freight to the success of their eBay business. Low freight costs and prompt delivery combine to affect a seller’s ability to make money on eBay. Recognize the freight challenge and do everything possible to minimize that challenge.

Beating Adwords The Easy Way - Affiliate Marketing Using Google Adwords

If you are playing the game of trying to beat Google AdWords it can be a total uphill struggle. Some days you can spend hours getting your campaign up and running and get a sale or two …. GREAT!

But for the next seven days NOTHING! What do you do then? It can be destroying for the affiliate marketer. If only you could just get one or two great campaigns up and running you KNOW that you could start earning some great money.

So how do you get to that point? It’s easier than you thought. All you need to do is stop concentrating on lists of keywords. You don’t need hundreds of keywords. What you do need to do is start targeting desperate buyers. Who are these desperate buyers? They are people who are so desperate to find the answers to their problem that they are willing to pay.

This is how you become a great and successful affiliate marketer. Stop worrying about having these huge lists that are way too broad to help you get huge amounts of traffic. I’m going to let you into a little secret here that will go against everything that you have ever been told. Traffic is NOT the answer!

Hmmmm, I hear you say. It’s true, look at it this way. What good is traffic flooding through the door of your site off the back of keywords such as “Make money online.” There could be so many things that these people are looking for it’s scary. They might be looking for the answer to where to invest their money online, or how to make money using ebay etc. You might get lucky and get a few people become interested, but the chances are that it just cost you for that click that was a waste of time.

So the answer is this. Quality, highly targeted traffic. How do we get that highly targeted traffic, the ones that have their credit cards at the ready? We have to dig down deep with our keyword phrases, this is where it can become confusing.

Think of it in terms like this: Are people losing sleep at night thinking of how to bring up their child? Probably not. So keywords like:

bringing up a baby
baby help
baby bible
etc,

are not going to do anything for you.

So think about what would be worrying a parent, what would keep them awake all night worrying (enough to make them part with their cash.)

How about:

how to stop my baby crying
why does my baby cry all night
how can I stop my baby crying
etc, etc

I’m sure you’re seeing what I am talking about here. Knowing what is a big problem and using what people would search for is the key here. This is highly targeted traffic.

How to Use Hypnotic Themes & Personal Trance Words in Your Hypnotic Sessions

Hypnotic themes are by nature the big brothers of hypnotic words; they are stronger, bigger and more powerful. A hypnotic theme takes the hypnotic words we have been working with and puts them together into a new context. The idea or activity in the themes is loaded with hypnotic characters and as I give you some examples you will see what I mean.

There are many, many hypnotic themes. You see and are confronted by them everyday probably without even noticing it. A hypnotic theme that is very common is when you sit down to watch a movie, whether at the movie theatre or on your television at home. As you are engulfed in the movie’s action you are eventually so absorbed that the very activities around you go unnoticed.

You are too busy experiencing within yourself the lives of the characters you are watching. You are feeling the emotions they are feeling and closely following their story as if it were your own life being played out for the world to see.

This is an example of a hypnotic theme; another example would be if you are a person who enjoys reading. As you sit down with your book you usually end up so wrapped up in the story line that you don’t even notice that you are actually reading words. Instead there is only a picture playing out in your mind, and nothing happens around you except what the characters in your book are doing and saying. Often you will lose track of time and continue reading because the story line is too captivating to put down.

Now the two examples I just gave you are common everyday samples of how a hypnotic theme happens, feels and looks like. These are activities that are loaded with the hypnotic concepts found in the 4 Stage Protocol. Your attention is completely absorbed and the critical factor is bypassed mainly because you believe it is a story, therefore needs no or little analysis.

The activity is also getting an unconscious response from you in that it is evoking emotions, sometimes strong emotion if you can identify with the characters and sometimes just the sharing of the experience. You are also putting the uncommon response into action, you are taking in the experience you are watching or reading about and making it your own, adding it to your file of the way things feel, look, sound and the way they affect you.

Reading books and watching movies are both experiences that will be categorized in the hypnotic themes section of life. We usually don’t view them this way and no one expects them to change your life for the better, but that is because they are simply themes and not the whole process of hypnosis.

As you begin to use hypnotic themes in your practice you will be giving rich and deep descriptions of things, ideas and activities. The more you focus in on these things in your stories the more focused and interested your listener will become in your words. The more you speak in hypnotic themes the more your listener will become engaged in what you are saying. Their neurology and the related matters within them will begin to activate and start buzzing them with excitement about what will be happening next. They will be lost to your conversation much like they are pulled into a book or movie.

This in itself is the activation of a trance. It usually isn’t going to be the type of trance where a person falls on there face because they are so hypnotized but it is defiantly an altered state of mind. They will seem awake with their eyes open and they will respond to your words with slight nods of the head, an occasional word of agreement or facial expressions.

However, you may notice the eyes slightly more dilated and glazed over, and a difference in their breathing. This is because the signal recognitions systems you have learned about will be present even in this sort of trance.

Hypnotic themes are a very powerful way of conveying a story and engaging people in only what you are saying. They will be very helpful in creating a positive environment for other Conversational Hypnosis skills. They are very powerful and can have a dramatic impact on the lives of those around you.

Look for these signals the next time you are in a deep conversation or telling a good story to a friend and you will see that you are probably inducing these everyday without even being aware of it.

Another skill that we need to discuss is that of personal trance words. These are again related to hypnotic words but they are different in that they are words important to the person. Hypnotic words have a universal meaning to them, one that most people understand in a broad sense within the culture.

Personal trance words on the other hand are words that people will lean on unconsciously because they are words that are defining to them. People will find their personal trance words without even knowing it and they will use them over and over again. Each time they use the words they will lean on them in the same ways, using the same tone, emphasis, body language and even the same facial expressions. These words become natural triggers for the people that they belong to.

The bottom line is personal trance words are unique to the individual my personal trance words will likely be different than yours and they will have a special meaning or significance to each person as well. Now there are both positive and negative personal trance words and as you work with people you will begin to pick up on these.

For your purposes in hypnosis you will want to use only the positive personal trance words as you interact with your subjects, you want a positive experience. When you are in a session with a subject and you are using personal trance words you will not have the same trigger effect if you simply state the word.

You must pay attention to the mannerisms, tonality, rhythm and general way they express the word to be effective. Then when you use the word or repeat it back to them you need to do it as closely to how they say the word as possible. This will give you the greatest effect and will allow you to use these words in your language to your advantage.

Signs of Navicular Disease

Navicular disease is somewhat of a mysterious condition among horseowners. They may walk to their barn one day to find a horse that is sitting on his haunches and appears to be in enormous amounts of pain. Or, they may notice that their colt in race training tends to slow halfway through the workout. Owners of pleasure horses may not even realize it until one day the horse is unwilling to move forward and stumbles through gaits that it once performed with ease. These horses are often feeling a burning pain due to the increased bloodflow in their hooves and the shifting of the coffin bone.

If the hooves are not properly trimmed on a regular basis, the horse is more susceptible to suffering from navicular due to abnormal growth of the hoof. The hoof grows and wears in accordance with the footing that the horse is kept on. The bone may become immobile and cause poor circulation in the hoof. In extreme conditions, the coffin bone will slowly sink to the floor of the hoof and may pierce the bottom of hoof. The condition usually occurs only in the front feet and generally affects both feet. Horses that are at a high risk are those that are stall-kept and have strong physical demands such as being overweight or those horses that are not conformationally correct.

Quarter horses tend to be prone to the condition as well as Thoroughbreds, who tend to have small feet in proportion to their bodies. Navicular has been diagnosed in horses as early as one year, so even a young yearly is susceptible if their hooves are not properly cared for if they are allowed to consume to much grain in a short period of time. This may happen on farms that try to rapidly grow their young horses for sales, show, races, etc. The condition is gradual and causes progressive lameness in the front legs. Navicular is hard to detect early because the condition worsens over time. Often horses are found with severe lameness from navicular one day because they have not been showing symptoms until it has progressed to the extent that the horse is put in extreme pain.

Signs of Navicular Syndrome

· Horses place their weight on their toes to avoid placing pressure on the heel while walking. The heel becomes inflamed in the bone and the bursa. The bursa is the outer lining layer of the bone.

· Heels are contracted and smaller due to poor confirmation.

· Shortening of stride

· Shifting of body weight when resting

· Stumbling gait

· Uneveness in turns

· Reluctance to go forward or lengthen stride

· Resting with weight resting on the toe

· When pressure is applied to the hoof; the horse will indicate heel pain

· Sitting back on hind legs to avoid pressure on front feet (also common in horses that are foundering)

Make Money on eBay - The Perfect Market Niche

Is your goal to make money on eBay? If so then the market niche that you select is one of the most important decisions that you will make. That niche needs to be focused and specific. It needs to be big enough that there are enough buyers to allow you to make money on eBay.

So how does a new seller handle this balancing act? How do you get down to a small and specialized niche while remaining big enough to generate enough sales? How do you identify a niche that will allow you to make money on eBay?

One way to determine a specific market niche is to think of the search as being like a funnel. The funnel is largest at the top. In fact, if you were to attempt to use a real funnel that was as large at its smallest point as at the top, it would be of very little use. The funnel needs to taper down to a smaller size to be of use to you. The same is true when identifying a niche where you can make money on eBay.

Find a market that is of interest to you. It might be a hobby or a special interest. From there work down to a specialized market niche. It is just as if you were in a funnel. Once you work down to a small more specific niche it is important to test to make sure that you have found the niche that will make money on eBay for you.

Be sure that the buyers in your niche are ready, willing and able to spend money. The best niche has many of these buyers who have a problem that your product solves. Once you find that combination you are on your way to make money on eBay.

Medicare Part B - What Are Your Benefits With Medicare Part B?

As you might already know, Medicare is a federally funded health insurance program for citizens over the age of 65. Some individuals who meet specific requirements are able to get Medicare coverage before the age of 65. They include people with permanent kidney failure, people with Lou Gehrig’s Disease and people who have been receiving Social Security benefits for at least 24 months. In this article, you will learn more about a facet of this coverage known as Medicare Part B.

Medicare Part B is a voluntary service that those receiving Medicare can choose to pay for. This coverage will take care of many outpatient services. This might include things like doctor visits, outpatient hospital visits, X-rays and other diagnostic tests, medical equipment, physical therapy and even certain mental health services. How much you will pay for Medicare Part B will depend on your determined income. Usually, the cost for this service is deducted from your Social Security check each month before it reaches your mailbox.

Medicare Part B also pays for certain types of medical equipment. Medical equipment includes things such as wheelchairs, oxygen tanks, walkers, neck, arm, leg and back braces, and eyeglasses with an intra ocular lens after cataract surgery. It gets confusing at times because Medicare Part B does not cover items that may be medically related but are not medically necessary, like safety bars or air humidifiers. Also, with Medicare Part B, you will find that some of your medical equipment will be purchased while other items must be rented.

You will also receive coverage for certain preventative procedures. First, you get a physical within six months after your enrollment. You will also get cholesterol and triglycerides testing every two years. Tests to screen for diabetes are covered for individuals deemed to be high risk. Annual mammograms are covered, as are Pap and pelvic exams every two years. Certain types of colon cancer screening are also covered.

All in all, Medicare Part B is an affordable service that anyone who receives Medicare or Social Security benefits should seriously consider. Otherwise, those outpatient doctor visits, medical equipment items and preventative screenings may take a toll on your finances as they are quite expensive.
