How To Stay Happily Married

With the divorce rate as high as 60%, according to some statistics, it seems as though our whole country needs a lesson on how to stay happily married. Not just married, but happily married. Believe it or not, it can be done! Being married does not mean that you give up your rights as an individual, nor should it mean that you disregard the niceties and pleasantries that attracted your mate to you in the first place.

When I was young, little girls dreamed of meeting their knight in shining armor who would whisk them away from their dreary life, ensconce them in a little bungalow with a white picket fence and two cats in the yard. Ok so that’s part of a song title but still that’s what little girls of days of yore envisioned.

Things have changed!! Boy have they changed. Our white knights today are also looking for someone who will help take care of them. Something unheard of when I was a child. Men were manly men and they didn’t need anyone to take care of them.

Men can still be manly men but today’s sensitive women realize that men have the same needs that we women do. Men need to feel loved, wanted, respected, needed, and above all, desired. Too often, we let our own selfish needs supersede that of our mate’s. That is not to say that women should subjugate their wants and desires for themselves to men, nor vice versa.

What we need to do is recognize each other’s needs and always aim for fair play. What is the refrain from childhood that you probably still hear in your mind today? It’s “That’s not fair!!” All any child wants is to be treated fairly. We tend to forget this after we marry, and become complacent in our life, with our mate.

When children are added to the mix, the complacency toward the marriage and spouse can degenerate to the point where married couples sometimes are no more than roommates to each other. What began as the embodiment of the Cinderella fairy tale begins to take on all the manifestations of a Grimm’s Fairy Tale.

What happened? Where did the magic go? When your spouse walks into the room, where is the fluttering in your heart that once made you feel so alive, so happy to see him or her? Realistically, we know that this intense feeling of puppy love and unbridled passion can’t last forever. If it did, we’d never get on with the rest of our lives. For heaven’s sake, we’d never go to work or do any housework. We wouldn’t know any other rooms in the house existed other than the bedroom.

So how do we at least keep the embers burning with occasional sparks of pure passion? I am not a marriage counselor or professional expert by any stretch of the imagination. But what I do have is 40 years experience of being a happily married woman…most of the time. This isn’t a fairy tale so let’s be honest here. Life has its ups and downs and married life seems to have more of them than single life.

Here are some Dos and Donts then on how to improve your odds of being in the 40% of marriages. We’ll start with the Donts.

· I would say the most important criterion for a happy marriage is not to get married too young! Sow those wild oats and sow them with abandon. Enjoy your singlehood. Reach out and experience all of life’s flavors. Travel, go to school, meet a lot of new and exciting people. With luck and some hard work, you’ll be married for many, many years and you don’t want to look back on what you should have done, could have done. Just because all your friends are getting married and popping out babies 1,2,3, doesn’t mean you should.
· Don’t have unrealistic expectations of what married life should be. Remember you and your spouse are the same people as you were before you were married. If you were happy…or miserable then, marriage won’t change this.
· Never take your spouse for granted. This is probably one of the biggest marriage killers, next to adultery and money problems. Just because you’re married doesn’t mean the Valentine’s Day gifts should stop or the phone calls during the day just to chat, and on and on and on ad infinitum.
· Never argue over money. This is a very hard one to adhere to but try you must if you want to maintain a happy married life. Make sure you’re both on the same page when it comes to finances before you get married. If one of you is a spender, and the other a saver, you’d better have some sort of game plan before you walk down that aisle otherwise you’re walking right into marital, if not, financial doom.
· This one is primarily for women – try not to put the children ahead of your husband…or at least try to work out some rational “fair’ balance. (Remember “that’s not fair”?) When women become moms, something incredible happens to us. Something that other non-moms cannot understand. Our child (children) is now the most important things in our life. We are mama bears looking out for our cubs and damned anyone who tries to interfere with this bond. But before we were moms, we were mates and we must never forget that.

Some important Dos

· So do make time for your mate. Every married couple should have a Date Night. It doesn’t have to be a Saturday night. It can be a Sunday morning brunch, just the two of you, or a night out at the movies or dinner at some out of the way place where you won’t run into friends and spend the whole night talking to other people. Make this a time for just you and your spouse.
· Always make time for passion. A common complaint from spouses (although this is primarily a man’s complaint) is that their partner is too tired for sex. If one partner is too tired, then the other partner should do whatever it takes to help alleviate this condition, perhaps helping out with the dishes or helping to vacuum, and make beds. Whatever it takes to resolve the problem. Just like the people who say they never have time to exercise, there are those who say they don’t have time, or are too tired for, sex. You can always find time. Lack of time or lack of energy is really just an excuse.
· Compliment each other. It isn’t just women who need compliments. Men need them too. If your spouse looks particularly appealing don’t just think it and keep it to yourself. Let them know right then and there that you’re admiring them, that you appreciate them. If you think your spouse is a great parent, let them know. None of us are mindreaders.
· Take time to laugh with each other. Laughing is definitely good for our mental and physical health.
· Some people advocate never going to bed angry. Sounds good but truth be told an awful lot of us would be up all night then! Sometimes it’s good to let things cool down and literally sleep on them. Cooler heads may prevail in the morning. Fight fair (here’s that “fair” word again). Leave the past in the past and keep your fights limited to the issue at hand.

Remembering why you fell in love with your spouse, and realizing that marriage is not always a 50/50 proposition (sometimes it’s 70/30 or 90/10), treating your spouse with the same consideration and respect that you would a friend or co-worker, will go a long way in helping to insure a long, and yes, a happy marriage.

There is an old 30s or 40s song sung by Ella Fitzgerald which says “into each life some rain must fall” and when it rains in your life, which it inevitably will, you’ll be glad to have the comfort and love of someone who has stood by your side throughout the years. Someone you didn’t throw away because of a temporary idea that single life is better or that marriage was boring or hard work. You may not be sitting on your front porch in your rocking chair. Heck, you may be out dancing and boogying with the best of them. And the longer you’re married, the more you will appreciate the person with whom you chose to spend the rest of your life.

Why Being An Entrepreneur Is Nothing Special

Being an entrepreneur, whether of a multi-million dollar corporation and especially of a home business, is nothing special. It usually does not take special skills, or special abilities.

Now, you may think I’m making a bold statement here, and you’re probably tired of reading that many entrepreneurs are normal people just like you and me. You may still hold on to your beliefs that a successful is lucky or possesses skills and talents that you do not have. Well, I’m here to refute those suggestions in this article.

How does one become an A student in school, a top-class athlete or an entrepreneur who generates profits? Is it because they are special? Yes, some may be born with a higher IQ or a better physique, but what separates success from failure is the willingness to study and then implement in habits.

School has made many people despise books. And that is why what most people are learn are from textbooks, their friends and their parents. This is the path to become an employee, which the whole educational system has created.

If one wants to be an entrepreneur, he has to start in his spare time. It is what people do in their spare time that separates being an employee and someone who ventures out on their own.

Most people work hard at their job and gain skills, but they gain these skills to be a better employee, not to learn to be a better entrepreneur. I highly recommend the second path, if you don’t want to limit your earning potential!

Get the Lowest 30 Year Fixed Rate Mortgage by Comparing Rate Quotes

This article’s technique employs the mortgage rate comparison method to ensure that you get the lowest cost 30 year fixed rate mortgage.

This method proposes that we compare rate quotes from several mortgage lenders. The concept underlying this method is that mortgage lenders give you their best rate quotes for a 30 year fixed rate mortgage. These competitive rate quotes help you get the lowest cost mortgage in the following ways.

By comparing interest rates, by comparing closing costs, and by comparing other third party processing fees. If you use effective rate comparisons, you’ll be able to find the lowest mortgage interest rate, closing costs, and processing fees.

Let’s imagine that you’ve gotten several low interest rate quotes, and one or two of the lenders stands out with the lowest rates. Go back to those lenders with the lowest rates and ask the loan officer to give you the lenders fees, and fees from third parties. You may get loan quotes with a good rate, only to find out later the loan comes with unusually high closing costs and fees.

Now compare the lenders fees and other third party fees, and notice whether the lower interest rate is being made up in the form of higher fees and closing costs. If so, ask the loan officer to match the fees of the lowest priced lender. Most lenders have quite a bit of flexibility, especially in the area of fees and closing costs. Remember, loan rates and fees are always negotiable.

Use this method get the lowest 30 year fixed rate mortgage deal. Your goal should be to get the the best mortgage deal including interest rates, lenders fees, and processing fees from third parties.

If you liked this article and would like to read more mortgage articles then stop in and take a look at what we have to offer. We have articles for refinance, mortgage, home equity, and credit scoring. And of course, you can always get a free rate quote while you’re there. Thank you, Frank Ellis, U.S. Mortgage Quest

How to Make Money Selling on eBay - Sales Got You Down?

If you are just starting to learn how to make money selling on eBay then likely you have run into problems as your business has started to grow. Possibly you have found that you cannot sell any more of the product that you started with. Possibly you have reached a sales plateau and no matter how many you list the item there just don’t seem to be any extra sales to be found.

What actions should you take when that happens? How can you continue to build you business to higher sales levels? How can you make money selling on eBay? It all starts with research and gaining an understanding.

There are really two different questions to ask yourself when you reach a sales decrease or plateau. First, have you taken a great new product and just gotten about all the sales that you can from that one product? Second is the marketplace simply telling you that while there are sales for your product, have you reached the maximum for that specific product? The challenge for you is to find the right answer. That answer is critical as it will help you understand how to make money selling on eBay into the future.

As you examine whether your product is now mature and no more sales growth can be expected for your product really look at your history with the product. Was it a new product to the marketplace when you started selling? Was there something special happening (Manufacturer marketing campaigns, a shortage or is it a seasonal item and you started just as the season was approaching for example.) that made buyers want to grab it as soon as it was available? If you can identify something in the marketplace that made sales higher then look at future prospects for that extra boost in sales returning. If that is not the case, consider diversification by adding new items to sell.

After examining the first question move on to examine the second question. If the marketplace is indeed telling you that sales have flattened because the market is saturated you will know that you cannot achieve additional sales of that product on eBay. If that happens how to make money selling on eBay becomes a big question. Options include moving into other sales outlets or just accepting that sales are as great as they will ever be. It may be time to look into adding new products as a means of growing business sales to the next level.

If sales slow or flatten at a specific level it is time for the eBay entrepreneur to really examine the causes. To make money selling on eBay requires that sales growth must continue. Identify the problem and then respond accordingly.

Make Money Online - So Many Possibilities

The internet offers us a plethora of opportunities that offline ventures just plain can’t reproduce. We enjoy spending money like online shopping, losing money from gambling, and making money with online internet marketing. Many people who dream of financial freedom want to learn how to make money on the internet. What’s the best way?

There’s really no easy answer to that question. The internet offers so many possibilities. Almost any hobby or skill can be use to make money on the internet. You can sell an ebook on a subject your passionate about, or you can sell other people’s products and earn affiliate commission. Other people choose the freelance route, such as freelance writing, web-designing, typing, and programming.

Some internet entrepreneurs have learned that simply having a web site with traffic can generate a good income. Placing other companies’ ads on their traffic generating website can be very lucrative. This method can take quite a bit of time and work, but in time, you can build up your “virtual real estate” to produce massive amounts of income. These are just a few of the MANY ways to earn an income online. However, many people are interested in making the most money possible.

The bottom line is that that there is no best way to make money online. The easiest way for you to start generating income online is to use your imagination and be creative, utilizing your natural talents and abilities. Some people say doing what you love is always the best way, and that’s always a good place to start. Doing what you enjoy doing, and making money in the process – what could possibly be better than that?

There are also many “get rich quick” schemes floating around. Don’t buy into the fact that all get rich quick systems are scams. Many people will tell you if it’s too good to be true, it usually is. But when it comes to the internet, I’ve found the opposite to be true. The fact of the matter is, most people that feel they just got scammed by another product, are really only scamming themselves. They buy a product that promises them riches beyond their belief, and then in return, expect that product to magically work for them. This is NEVER the case. Every system, every “scheme”, and every get rich product requires the right attitude, effort, and perseverance.

The truth is, 90% of the people who buy a new product that promises them riches will fail. However, it’s not the product that is at fault, it’s the person. Success is 80% mentality and 20% skill. For example, that same product that made one person fail, can be deadly in the hands of the right person, with the right attitude. I’ve seen people fail with spectacular products, and I’ve seen people explode their income with dead-beat products.

I promise that if you treat your new online business as a business, with the right work ethic and mentality, you will succeed every time. The internet is wide open with possibilities, and the money is out there. You just need to find your niche. Here’s to your success.

Death Knell For Incentive Stock Options

A federal court in Florida has just ruled that restricted stock (on which most incentive stock options are based) cannot have any value merely because it is restricted. (Visit Site below for Court Opinion.) Williamson v. Moltech Corporation began in New York in 1995. Although now in bankruptcy court, New York law, not bankruptcy law, applies in this case.

Restriction of stock is typically utilized by early-phase companies who want to award employees and/or attract necessary employees. The stock is restricted because when the company goes into an initial public offering (IPO), the underwriters of the offering do not want the company principals selling their stock at the IPO since this would undermine confidence in the company. Usually the restriction is lifted after a period of time following the IPO.

This new ruling would mean that any company can award incentive stock options based on restricted stock and then abrogate its agreement, leaving its employee with no recourse. This would be the case, even if the company value had increased astronomically. Clearly, this does not meet the test of reason.

This ruling destroys as impractical the use of incentive stock options and the restricted stock underlying them for compensation purposes. Companies that desire quality technologists and managers, but with little cash with which to compensate them, will now find the formerly-valuable technique of awarding incentive stock options to be snubbed by knowledgeable employees, who realize that the company can breach its incentive stock option agreement with its employee at any time with impunity. Thus, at any time after helping to build the company, the employee could be left with nothing for their sweat equity efforts. Since companies will no longer be able to compensate their employees with stock options, more cash will be required, leading to a drying up of technological advance.

Additionally, the court failed to observe the previous ruling of the courts of New York denying summary judgment to Moltech on the damage claim related to the incentive stock options, even though the court is bound to give comity to the New York ruling under res judicata. (Visit Site below for New York Summary Judgment Denial.) The court gives no apparent reason for its utter disregard for the prior New York ruling.

New York law requires that damages be measured at the time of the breach. Oscar Gruss & Son, Inc. v. Hollander, 337 F.3d 186 (2d Cir. 2003). Further, where there is no market for stock, as is the case with restricted stock, a hypothetical market model is used to establish the value between a buyer and a seller. Boyce v. Soundview Technology Group, Inc. 2004 WL 2334081 (S.D.N.Y. 2004) vacated and remanded as to damages by Boyce v. Soundview Technology Group, Inc. 464 F.3d 376 (2d Cir. 2006); Boyce is similarly a bankruptcy case. Thus, although the Williamson v. Moltech matter was in bankruptcy court, the ten-year later bankruptcy can have no effect on the value at the time of the breach. The court appears to have struggled with this, both recognizing that the valuation must take place as of the time of the breach under New York law, but also bringing in language related to the cancelling of stock through the bankruptcy plan approval, which is clearly inapplicable.

Of further interest is the earlier hearing before the court. (Visit Site below for Hearing Transcript.) The reader will find the comments by the court at the top of page 31 very interesting, since this hearing was prior to the court receiving any evidence as to valuation from Williamson. In fact, evidence of the restricted stock value was put before the court by Williamson in the form of un-refuted valuations, among others having been performed by Moltech’s own analysts/auditors, including Price-Waterhouse and sales of stock by Moltech (outright common stock sales were made as were preferred instruments convertible to common stock).

Thus, if the ruling this case were to be upheld it would result in a loss of stock options by employees holding them if their company decided to breach their incentive stock option agreements. Companies could breach such agreements pre-IPO leaving the employee high and dry with no high value stock subsequent to the IPO. Naturally, incentive stock options would lose their luster for compensation. New high technology companies would suffer.

The case is currently under appeal in the U.S District Court for the Northern District of Florida, Gainesville Division, Case No. 1:07-cv-00016.

10 Steps To Leverage Attending Live Events

With a busy schedule and clients to serve it is sometimes easy to make a decision not to attend live events and conferences as they can be seen as a drain on your resources.

However attending live events is a great way to connect with potential clients and even joint venture partners.

So here are 10 steps to leverage your attendance at live events:

1. BE PREPARED – before you attend the event, review who might be speaking or attending the event that you would like to make contact with. Consider sending them an email prior to the event and express an interest in meeting up at the conference or event.

2. DRESS FOR SUCCESS – make sure that you know the dress code for the event so that you can dress appropriately. There is nothing more uneasy than being at an event and feeling uncomfortable in what you are wearing. If unsure it is better to be more formal than casual.

3. BE ON TIME – arriving a little early is a great way to make sure that you have time to meet the event organisers. They are likely to be busy so you might even want to offer your assistance. Event organisers are a great resource to help you connect to other people you plan to meet.

4. MIX AND MINGLE – many people attend events with other people they know. Be sure that you do not stay with the people you came with. One of the powerful aspects of attending live events is not just to learn from the speakers but to meet other attendees.

5. COLLECT CARDS – always, always remember to take your business cards with you to the event. You goal however is to connect to others and be sure to get their business card. Then you have their contact details so you can follow up with them after the event.

6. TAKE NOTES – from time to time you may find some of the content not as relevant to your needs. But who else could benefit from the information being shared. Could you create a summary of the key points and share them with your clients or network contacts.

7. LUNCHTIME LINKING – a great place to connect with people is over the lunch break. Do not be afraid to join a table of people you do not know. Be engaging but do not commandeer the conversation.

8. SPEAK TO THE SPEAKERS – just because someone is on the platform speaking does not mean that they are setting themselves apart from the crowd. You can be sure that they would welcome connecting with you – perhaps even for you just to say how much you enjoyed their presentation.

9. BE ALCOHOL AWARE – many events may start or end with a drinks reception as a great way to connect people. Do however be aware of what and how much you are drinking. You want to make sure that people remember you the next day for the right reasons!

10. FOLLOW UP – make sure that you plan time in your calendar before you leave for the event to put what you have learnt into action and to follow up with the people you met at the event. That way you will realise a return on your investment of attending the live event.

YOUR ACTION STEPS:

1. Review what live events are taking place that would be relevant for you to attend either to build your network or to enhance your expertise in your field. Plan to attend one live event in the next 90 days.

2. Take note of the 10 steps above – perhaps even copy the 10 steps into your calendar as a reminder of 10 actions you can take to ensure you leverage the power of attending your next live event.

Three Variations of Golf Shots

While there is only one type of swing in golf, there are three variations of golf shots: Right curving, high-flying shots that inevitably turn into slices; Low-flying shots that curve to the left causing a hook; and the perfect straight shot, which is neither too high nor too low, and always manages to stay right in the middle of the fairway.

You may think a straight shot is all you’ll ever need to master the game. But, the ability to perform a hook or slice at will gives you an edge over other players when you all stand there facing a fairway with a sharp dog-leg to the right.

What’s the secret to intentionally shooting a slice or hook? It’s all dependent upon how you set the club before you begin the backswing. If the club is set in an open position, then the ball will veer off to the right. Closing the clubface will reverse the effect, and cause the ball to turn left in flight. Keeping the clubface square will result in a straight shot, down the middle of the fairway.

In order to master these techniques, you must first have a thorough understanding of each type of shot and its effects on the ball itself. A slice almost acts like a boomerang - flying high to the left and making a sharp turn to the right.

Slices can be helpful when you have a fairway that curves to the right. However, people who slice each and every shot are faced with the dilemma of limiting the distance they can achieve because the ball turns to the point of almost coming back to the one who hit it.

A more severe form of slicing is known as “shanking,” in which the ball is hit on the heel of the club and shoots off wildly to the right. Learn how to properly perform a slice so that it can be used to your advantage. First, play the ball slightly ahead of the left foot. Place the club so that the toe is slightly turned in and the shaft is not tilted forward, but rather, perpendicular.

Learning a hook is just as easy. For this type of shot, the club is positioned back towards the right foot - just as you’d do for a bad lie. The clubface, however, is kept square to the ball, with the shaft tilting forward. Your right foot is drawn back to the right of the intended line of the shot.

Sometimes, the lie of the ball will affect the body’s pivot, and result in a hook or a slice. If the ball lands on ground that is higher than the player, it results in a hook. Likewise, a low ball position results in a slice. To offset these tenancies, the player can adjust the aim of their stance and play with an open or closed clubface.

How do you use the eight steps if you’re a left-handed player? Simple. You just reverse both of the four step sections for positioning and swing. It’s the same as if a right-handed player finds himself up against a tree or other fairway obstacle that prevents him from taking a full right-handed swing.

Visit Think and Reach Par for more great free golfing advice, or maybe treat yourself or the golfer in your life to a golf birthday gift like the Body Golf series.
