Patio Design Suggestions

So you are planning to pour a new patio, but you feel you want a little more than the plain concrete and your budget doesn’t have much left to work with. Well here are a few suggestions that you could use to spice up your patio and make it look unbelievably good with very little extra cost for these patio designs. After your concrete is poured, use a float to smooth out the surface and then place small decorative stones in your concrete by gently tapping them before the concrete sets. This will give you a cobblestone effect, which is very nice.

While you’re mixing your concrete, add a concrete dye to the mixture. This will give your patio a different look and if you want to get really inventive, section off your patio and use different colors throughout. If you want to imitate flagstone use a jointer to divide your concrete into flagstone shaped sections. After you have smoothed it with a float, make each section a differ color, using the right colors will turn out a fantastic patio.

As a child every one of us longed to play in wet concrete to mark a name or leave a handprint. Well on this principle, you can do it now and there is no one around to say don’t. Use your handprints in the wet cement or pre make some interesting shapes and place them there. If you’re using shapes of different materials, don’t forget to spray them with a lubricant so that as the concrete dries they can be easily extracted from the concrete.

Whatever patio design you choose, you can make it more than plain concrete. Only your imagination can stop you, so go for it and have an original patio. It may turn out to be the best patio around and just think of the fun you’ll have telling the neighbours how you did it.

Writing Articles - How to Generate Fresh Ideas

If writing articles is your way of creating traffic, you know the importance of building volume. However, it is not always easy to come up with fresh ideas for articles. But there are resources you can use to help get you over this hump.

Here are some beneficial suggestions on how to increase your writing production:

  • If you are writing articles for affiliate marketing, go to the search engines and look up that term. You will find whole sites dedicated to this subject with hundreds of articles. There is no suggestion here to copy anyones work, but read through them. Not only will you learn more about affiliate marketing, they will also trigger ideas for you to write about.

  • Since you may already have written your own substantial number of articles, go back through your work. You will be surprised how an article you’ve written might contain a paragraph or two that creates a spinoff article you hadn’t previously thought about.

  • If you are into internet marketing, at some point you will probably have ordered ebooks to learn about your subject(s) in order to become an expert in your field. There are reams of material in those books to write about. You will find writing about the same subject(s), since you probably have your own niche, will have an entirely different spin than the author.

  • On the subject of internet marketing, there are many related components. This will provide you a copious amount of material to write about. For instance, you will probably learn about websites, list building, auto-responders, pay per click advertising, ClickBank, Commission Junction, and others. You will have a variety of subjects on which to write about. At the same time you will become very knowledgeable in your field.

Keep in mind if you are writing articles in volume, focus on the main points of your topic and try to make them as clear as possible to your reader. By doing so, you can keep your articles short, somewhere in the neighborhood of 350-450 words. This will generate a larger volume of articles in a shorter period of time.

To learn more about article writing and many other skills necessary for a profitable
internet business, click here: http://www.theaffableaffiliate.com/ You’ll receive an ebook, “15 Steps to Internet Success,” and a series of lessons about topics much like this one. Trust me, you will learn a lot, no matter how long you have been marketing. Just do it!

What’s In A Name? A Quick Guide to Naming Your Business, Product, Book or Service

Before you get attached to the brilliant name you’ve just created, there are some important places to check so you won’t be disappointed. Even worse, so you don’t run into some legal hassles down the road. It’s important to be clear in your product branding and marketing. A confused customer doesn’t buy.

Here are 3 essential places to search before you sign on the dotted line:

1. Domain Names. Make sure you check to see if your chosen name has been registered by someone else. It isn’t the end of the world if someone has your .com, but you want to make sure your market won’t be confused by the .com website. Owning a domain name doesn’t give you any legal rights, so don’t be confused. A great resource is www.godaddy.com

2. Trademark Search. You’ll want to do a trademark search on your desired name. It’s easy to do, but not necessarily quick, depending on the name. You can do the search at www.uspto.gov Click on the Trademark link on the left side of the page and then the search button. Use the new user search and put in all the words of your name. For your first search, use “and” in the search term box (3rd box down) to see if someone has a trademark on your desired name. Then do a search for “or”. You’ll see a lot more responses. Take the time to go through all the responses to see if there is a conflict with the name you’ve chosen. A trademark is the only way to protect the intellectual property of your name, so if it will extend your company’s visibility or brand, you may want to consider securing the trademark.

3. Corporate or Business Name in Your State. Contact the Secretary of State’s office and see if anyone is using the name in business. Many states have a website where you can do a search on corporations and LLC’s or PC’s.

If you are creating the title for a book or product, the copyright law does not protect you. Titles are not covered by copyright law, so you’ll want to make sure your title stands out from the crowd. For more information about what is and is not covered by copyright law, visit the US Copyright office at www.copyright.gov .

The reason we check these 3 areas is so that you don’t run into trouble down the road. It would be a shame to produce a product or great service and then send your potential clients to another business. Seeing the Light - Knowing What’s Right

Have you ever seen a photographer outside in the middle of the day, using a flash? Did you ever
wonder why he or she was doing that? I mean, it’s high noon at the baseball field in the middle of
the summer without a cloud in the sky. Shouldn’t there already be enough light?

All photographs need light, that’s obvious. But just as all photographers are not created equal,
neither is all light the same. Some of the types of light include: Natural light (the sun), florescent
light (overhead lighting), incandescent light (light bulb), Electronic light (Flash), Reflective light
(off of water or snow), Bounce light (off a ceiling or wall).

Photographers like Ansel Adams or Edward Weston have been known to wait for hours or even days,
until the light was just right. What makes the light just right? What was it they were waiting for? They
were waiting for “the right moment” that brief instant in time when all the elements and principles of design, happen at the same instant. As far as light is concerned, it must compliment your subject. It
must enhance the natural beauty, not distract. It must be one with the subject. Before I start sounding
too much like a Zen Buddhist Monk, let me give you some examples:

Most photographers when shooting outdoors prefer early morning or just before dusk in the evening.
The most obvious reason is that light is not as harsh. If you are trying to create the mood of a beautiful sexy model, you don’t want dark shadows that make her nose look like a small mountain peak. Likewise you want to be able to see her big beautiful eyes, not have her squinting so she looks like she’s in pain.

On the other hand, say you are trying to shoot an advertisement for some new sports drink. The
harsh sun glistening off, beads of sweat of a prominent athlete; may be exactly what you want. Does
that kind of make you thirsty? Good. That was the idea.

Reflections off a pond or lake are much more pleasing to the eye if it is overcast. A twinkle in the eye
is usually a quick bright light source at a slight angle from the subject. Red eyes are caused by a light source that is directly lined up with the subject’s eyes. (The light you see as “red eye” is nothing more than a reflection off the back of the eye.) The best way to avoid it is to move slightly up or slightly
down in relation to your subject.

Most indoor lighting will change the color of your film (unless you use a flash.) Florescent lights will
cast a blue- green (cool) color across the image. Incandescent lights will cast a yellow-orange (warm) color across the image. That doesn’t mean the light is wrong, if you choose the right subject. If you
are shooting fish in a fish tank, a blue green tint might actually improve the over all image. A nursing
child might benefit from the warm feelings of incandescent light.

Electronic flash is balanced for daylight, which means it’s the same as having the sun in your pocket.
You bring your light source with you. A flash can help good shots, look great. A flash can fill in harsh shadows. A flash can stop motion. A flash can allow you to take shots that your naked eye can not see.
A flash can become addictive, but remember it also has some negatives points. Red eye, washed out subjects, backgrounds that go totally black are some problems created by flash. Don’t get me wrong,
I love using flash, but to be fair, it CAN make things worse. Try bouncing your flash off a wall or ceiling for a more natural looking effect.

Your job as the photographer is to be aware of all these different types of light and know how they will affect your subject. When you use a fill flash outdoors with someone wearing a baseball cap you will actually be able to see their face. Others who think: “Oh, there’s plenty of light” will get really dark shadows and wonder why yours look so good. Anyone can rush out and buy a camera but remember;
the camera is only a tool, the light is what makes it just right.

Fragrance, A Life Changing Experience

If you haven’t ever seen a lavender field, but know what lavender smells like, you can easily create a mental picture of a lavender field. Many blind people have chosen fragrance design as a career after exploring various scents and the oils that are necessary to make them. As a result of developing their sense of smell, some have gone on to become experts in fragrance design. This ability to use their sense of smell in a new way is the same as learning a new language and a new way of life. Blinded eyes cannot see, but a developed sense of smell brings new light and life through mental vision.

Those of us who can see should exercise the same diligence as many of the blind by developing our sense of smell. Is your nose trained to know when you smell an authentic designer fragrance rather than a knockoff or imitation? Many department stores have cards bathed in the perfume or bottle testers. Using the testers allows you to become acquainted with the scent before you spend your hard earned money to buy it. The “real” thing doesn’t come cheap. The smell from a knockoff or imitation is short lived and the scent is in no way representative of the designer brand fragrance. This does not mean that there aren’t pleasant scents among the imitations, but it does mean that you won’t enjoy the memory trail provided by a great designer fragrance. The designer fragrance lives on after you have left. It is not over powering, but leaves a pleasant reminder of you for your family, friends or co-workers.

We all like to feel confident about ourselves. There are many things we can learn about confidence building. There are ways to walk with confidence without opening your mouth to speak. Proper grooming and the designer fragrance you have chosen to become a part of your personality can truly lead to the comment “she walks in beauty.” The “well dressed” man can also walk with assurance because he looks good and he smells good.

Even though we can see with our eyes, there is much to learn from the blind. We all should have the desire to increase our mental vision by learning to recognize the natural beauty of fragrance through our sense of smell.

Over becoming powerful
Sincerely listen and relate
Be considerate and rational
Fully present and engaged
In the person in front of you
Don’t think to bulldoze through
Merely get for good old you
Kindly prefer your fellow man
Help him get to the promised land
Gently assist whenever you can
Don’t resist having an open heart
Neither be quick to up and depart
During your friend’s greatest need
Feel deeply for and even bleed
For and if necessary suffer with
Knowing that life isn’t always bliss
Nevertheless care and tenderness
Goes an amazingly very long way
By the simple things you do and say
When you refuse to let your pride
Obscure you and get in the way
Life becomes by far more meaningful
Friendships become most delightful
Acquaintances are easily endeared
Helpful hands for you readily appear
Ears for you also attentively hear
Your wife affectionately calls you dear
When you triumph, people happily cheer
Companionship continually grows
Your heart connects and captivates
Wherever it goes and lets love flow
Vanity finds no place for a vile show
Selfishness dies and the God kind of zoe
Breaks forth elegantly and dynamically
Multiplying everywhere exponentially
As you love your Creator and neighbor
Trust in sweet and sudden serendipity
The glory of heaven shines radiantly
Transforms one’s countenance brilliantly
Transcends and reconciles humanity
Bringing hearts together in humility
To interact and collaborate peaceably
Work together tirelessly and cooperatively
As we prefer others generously and lovingly
We ignite an unstoppable power collectively
Therefore prefer being personal over powerful
As you do a phenomena will occur most natural
Together united as one we all become influential.

Travelling With Your Cat - Keeping Your Globe-Trotting Kitty Safe and Comfortable

Having travelled with my pets many times, I only recommend doing it whenever it is totally necessary. Cats are creatures of habit and like being in their own familiar surroundings. Some cats like travel more than others, but in general it takes them out of their comfort zone. Here are some ways to make the experience as least traumatic for kitty as possible, while keeping him safe at the same time.

Travelling by Car

Before leaving home, compile a few important supplies to make travelling successful for you and your cat. Make sure kitty has a collar with an ID tag on it, so if for any reason he is separated from you, he can be returned home later. My cats are microchipped by my vet, but I still put collars on them when I travel. Keep a leash with you, in case you need it while travelling, but don’t attach it to your cat’s collar until you get him out of the crate. Have a pet travel crate or carrier to keep kitty in while in the car. This is important because if you let your cat walk around the cabin of the car as you drive, not only will he be a distraction to you but he can get between your feet and possibly cause an accident. It’s better to be safe than sorry.

I recommend a pet crate as big as you can fit into your car, with a pillow or oversized cat bed inside to give kitty something to feel like taking a nap in. Sprinkle the bed with catnip just to make it even more attractive to him, for good measure. If the trip is long, he will tire and finally get some sleep at some point. Have a crate fan (found on Ebay or pet stores) to keep him cool if you are travelling in a very warm climate. Even if you have air conditioning in the car, the cool air may not travel to the back of the car cabin, so a crate fan is a good idea when driving in heat, no matter what. If there is room in the crate, a cardboard box is a good idea, as well. Cats love boxes, having one will give kitty something to hide in when feeling uptight.

Have travel feeders for food and water. If you don’t buy them, have a small lidded food bowl and water dish to give your cat when stopping at a rest stop. During trips, at least supply water every hour or so, so your kitty doesn’t get dehydrated. A smallish litter box is a must, too, for long trips. Cover the cage on all sides except the one facing you, with a blanket. This will keep your cat from becoming frightened or over-stimulated by all the passing cars and other unfamiliar sights outside the windows around him.

While travelling in the car, talk to your cat, to soothe him. Your voice will help him to feel more secure. If the trip is short, I put the cat carrier on the front seat next to me, so my cat can see me, and talk to him as I drive. Ok, the other drivers may think I’ve lost it and am talking to myself, oh well. I want my cat to feel less vulnerable and it works. One of my cats has learned to love riding in the car. He now enjoys seeing the cars go by and meows at the people he sees at the stoplights. Beau is the minority in the family, the other cats run for cover when I get the cat travel crate out.

Staying at a hotel is a breeze once your cat gets used to it. When I get to my room, I place the cat litter box in the bathroom, and the food dishes in the kitchen or dinette area. Then, I show my cats where everything is, leaving their pet crate open on the floor in the corner, in case one of them wants to go rest in there. They now head straight for the middle of the bed or on the pillows. They’re no dummies, they know the most comfortable places to sleep at. I take a pillow or two of my own, and that way I can share the bed with the cats and there’s enough pillows for everyone.

Travelling by Airplane

I have only flown by plane with one of my cats, and it was an experience. Our trip was to Mexico, where we stayed for two years. Before flying there, I had my vet check over Blackie to make sure he was healthy, and document it for airport officials. Each pet needs a certificate of health from the vet in order to enter and leave a foreign country. It is also proof that your pet was not acquired overseas, that it is yours and came with you from your home country. Without it, he is any cat off the street, in a foreign country, to authorities. Keep these documents in a safe place when travelling, because you will need them. Without proper documentation, customs officials can ask for quarantine, and you don’t want that. Going and coming to the United States, customs officials thoroughly looked over the documents. I had to get a new certificate of health from a Mexican vet before coming to the US, since I’d been in the country for so long. Do not let officials keep those documents, let them look only.

One airport checker tried to scare me by saying if I didn’t pay him extra money, then he wouldn’t allow my documents, and my cat couldn’t go on the plane. The flight was about to leave soon, so he knew he had me at a disadvantage. I didn’t pay and quickly contacted security, and we got through. Don’t fall for bribes. His parting shot at me was, “You’ll never get your pet into the US”. I did, without a problem. He was only trying to scare me since I didn’t fall for his little scam. Otherwise, officials acted properly, it may not happen to you when travelling in a foreign country, but it bears mentioning.

When flying, it is better to bring your cat in the airplane cabin with you than storing him in the underbelly of the plane with everyones’ luggage. Being with the luggage is cold and unpleasant, and there is a chance your beloved pet could be lost. Just ask those people whose prize Whippet dog was lost at the airport due to poor handling. When the pet crate leaves your hands, you don’t know how they will handle your cat and his carrier. Keep the cat in a regulation sized carrier, under the seat in front of you on the plane. To me, this is the only option. Ask airline officials about details on taking your cat on their airline, they will tell you what they do and don’t allow. Sometimes there is a fee for bringing the cat in the plane with you, sometimes not. Whatever the case, your cat’s safety is what is most important so bring him with you, even if the crate is kind of small for his body. My cat barely fit his crate, but he was docile so I let him sit in my lap part-way through the trip, and nobody complained. People were sympathetic, and happy that Blackie was allowed to be with me. He was scared and it showed on his face. Tranquilizers didn’t work on him at all, I tried them on the first leg of the trip and regretted it. It made him delirious, adding to his misery. Try to avoid using them if you can. Travelling by plane is not a pleasant experience for any pet, so try to avoid it unless you have no other options.

Once you and your pet get to your destination, make sure to make them feel at home and give them lots of love. They will associate travel with praise if you make their trip as painless as possible. Like people, cats need time to settle in their new surroundings and grow accustomed to them. They will appreciate being home once their adventure is over, and you most definitely will, too. Good luck and be safe.

Mortgage Refinancing - No Closing Cost - Is it For Real?

You’re bombarded with the ads for mortgage companies almost 24 hours a day it seems. “Mortgage Refinancing – No Closing Cost” Some mortgage companies claim they can get you a great mortgage with no closing cost. Others trumpet how they can get you the best rate and fee structure. Still others claim they can get you both the best rate and fee structure and no closing cost. What gives? Is it really possible to get a great rate on your mortgage refinancing effort and pay no closing cost?

First of all, there are a couple of things you need to watch out for. One line the mortgage companies love to use is “No out of pocket cost” Think about that for just a second. That’s not the same as no closing cost, is it? In many cases, “No out of pocket cost” means they simply roll the closing costs into your loan, there by increasing your loan balance from the word “Go”. Such a mortgage deal usually isn’t a very good one. You’ll just end up paying not only the closing costs, but the interest on them for 30 years too.

What the heck are closing costs, and why are they part of the mortgage transaction in the first place? You’ll find the closing costs can be under one of four general classifications; government fees (taxes, deed recording, etc.), lender fees (points, loan origination, documents, setting up escrow, underwriting), third party fees (title search and insurance, home inspection, appraisal, etc.), escrow and interest (advance payments for PMI, real estate taxes, interest and insurance).

The lender has little control over third party and government fees, however they have supreme control over their own fees. Do they need to charge you an origination fee, points or doc fees? That depends upon how badly they want your business, and how much they’re making on the back end of the deal. In most cases they’ll sell your loan to another lender on the secondary market. This is known as “selling the paper”. They make thousands of dollars when they do this transaction. The more interest they charge you up front, the more they make when they sell your loan to another lender.

If the mortgage company really is offering to pay all the closing costs, check the interest rate you’re being offered. Is it competitive? In many cases they claim to be letting you avoid paying the closing costs because they’re making plenty of money. At least they’re truthful. They are making plenty of money. That’s because in the vast majority of cases where the mortgage company offers to pick up the closing cost tab for you, they’re kicking up the interest rate a quarter or half a point. In the long run, you’ll typically end up backwards on such a deal.

Take a look at this example: You’re getting a $250,000 mortgage. Closing costs typically run about 4% of your loan, so figure about $10,000. The key to avoiding excessive fees and other closing costs is to ensure you compare the lender’s good faith estimate they provided when approving your mortgage. If you’ve done so, you’ll usually be around the 4% figure. If you’re getting a 6% mortgage, you’ll pay $289,595 in interest over the term of the mortgage. If the mortgage company changes the interest rate to 6.25%, it may not seem like much, but you’ll now pay $304,145. Is it worth saving $10,000 now to pay $15,145 extra in interest over 30 years? It may be depending upon your financial situation.

If your mortgage company rolls the $10,000 into the loan balance, you’ll pay $301,179, or almost an extra $12,000 on a 6% mortgage. If they both up the interest rate and roll in the closing costs, look out! You’ll end up paying $316,311 in interest over the life of the loan, or almost $27,000 more over the life of your mortgage. What can you do with $27,000? It’s up to you. Only you can make the decision which mortgage company to use. The fact is most of them have access to basically the same mortgage products. What, and how, they charge you for them is up to you. Choose your mortgage and mortgage company carefully.

Don’t be on the outside looking in. You can know the secrets to refinance with good or bad credit, improve your credit rating so you can get the best interest rate, and manage your debt and credit, go to the Home Mortgage Refinancing Guide.

Semi-Automatic Control - Creativity Even in Auto Mode

It occurs to me, that if I mention the phrase f-Stops, there are a growing number of young photographers who don’t know what I’m talking about. That’s not bad, if you know what they do.

In the old days, when someone mentioned “f-stops”, we knew they were going to talk about “Depth of Field”. To those of you who have never seen an f-16, don’t worry, it’s not your fault. In this world of automatic cars and power windows, it stands to reason that automatic cameras, would some day dominate the market. That day has come.

In most cameras you now see several “automatic settings”. These include: the green rectangle, the small child’s head, the mountain with a cloud, the small runner, a flower, and a person with a star over one shoulder.

The green rectangle means go. Quick, don’t think about the settings, just start shooting. Unfortunately, this gives you very little creative control. It is a great mode for snap shots or someone who is too intimidated by cameras in general.

The girl’s head is a portrait mode; meaning the camera will pick a small f-stop, giving you a small depth of field. Before I go too far, let me explain the idea of depth of field better. Hold a pencil out at arms length and stare at the tip. Now look beyond the pencil. As the sharp pencil tip becomes soft and the soft background becomes sharp this is “Depth of Field”. The human eye can only focus on one point at a time; but how wide that area of focus is, does vary greatly.

If I want to take a picture of my cute granddaughter who’s playing beside the garbage can, do I want all the garbage can in focus? No. I only want to see my granddaughter, so I choose a “Small” Depth of Field.

If on the other hand, this cute kid is playing in Zion’s National Park in front of a waterfall, do I want both child and water fall in focus? Yes. That’s when I use a landscape mode (the small mountain and cloud), because that’s when the camera would pick a “Large” Depth of field. The easiest way to remember this is: small child equals a small amount in focus. Large Mountain equals a large amount in focus.

The small runner is a sports mode. This allows the camera to pick a fast shutter speed which can stop action. The opposite would be the person with a star. Although basically meant as a night shot mode, it also forces the camera to use a slower shutter speed, good for dreamy effects on moving water.

The flower is a close-up mode - which is similar to the portrait mode, but on a much closer scale. In most cases, the Depth of Field is fairly small. Remember that close-up generally means taking pictures within a foot or two, NOT an inch or two. To get that close you either need a special Macro Lens . . . or a set of Close-Up filters to increase your magnification.

The person with a star over one shoulder indicates a long exposure. Don’t even play
with this mode unless you are using a tripod. This is where you start shooting in full
seconds, full minutes, or even hours. Great for fireworks or lightning, but not something
you want to hold by hand.

Knowing what the symbols are for, gives you much more creative control than always shooting in green mode. Remember your camera is like a paintbrush to the painter, you control how much light to apply to the photo. Point and shoot cameras that offer NO adjustments, are for tourist not photographers. As long as your camera has options; whether they are manual or automatic you still have choices. “Creativity” comes form having those choices and using them.

Preparing For The Worst In Business - What To Do?

Let us say that you are a wholesale distributor and your wholesale business runs out of free traffic? What do you do? Are you prepare to handle the financial scrutiny it could be for your more than likely present, better yet, are you having all your eggs in one basket?

Very recently, so called Mr. big daddy search engine erased me from SERP results for my main wholesale sub-niche commercial businesses. From niches to sub-niches related, everything gone! Instead of girls gone wild, more like partners gone crazy since every work is based on commission price gaps.

Can you imagine if this is you? Could be you paying rent, credit card bills, college, miscellaneous and business itself. What backup plan could you have right now if you have trusted and have been getting comfortable with only one source of marketing for your businesses?

One of the things you should not do when it comes to search engine free traffic is trust in luck. Waiting in the hope word will not get you guarantee that you will be able to pay your mortgage or any current demand you are in debt with. You need a source where you can predict results. Even when the traffic will never ever be the same, you must have it tested before you even started the business.

The advertising and marketing funnel that many of us rely when it comes to testing and seeing a potential great business investment online is known as pay-per-click. With pay-per-click marketing you cannot only appear in the top of SERP results, you can also track what exactly is bringing you a profit.
