Honda to Reduce Carbon Dioxide Emission

The increasing awareness of the threat of the global warming issue in the auto industry has car manufacturers taking steps to reduce the greenhouse gases emission of their vehicles. New developments like better particulate filters are being used to trap greenhouse gases before they can be released into the atmosphere.

Honda is one of the leading car manufacturers in terms of reducing carbon dioxide emissions. Due to their dedication to the reduction of greenhouse gas emission, the company is named as the “Greenest Automaker” recently by the Union of Concerned Scientists.

The Japanese car company is already reducing the amount of carbon dioxide that is released in the atmosphere by their vehicles or in the production of their vehicles.

The second largest Japanese car manufacturer has already used advanced fuel consumption reduction technologies on their Honda and Acura vehicles. The use of such technologies gave them the best corporate average fuel economy or CAFE.

For 2006 model passenger cars, Honda’s auto fleet has an average of 33.9 miles per gallon while for light trucks the average is 24.7 miles per gallon. The mpg rating is determined by the United States Environmental Protection Agency or EPA.

The company’s dedication to reducing carbon dioxide emission became evident in May of 2006 when Honda became the first auto maker to announce voluntary carbon dioxide emission reduction by 2010. The targeted reduction is not only for their vehicles but also in the production process. Last year, the company announced that they will be reducing the carbon dioxide emission of their automobiles released globally by five percent from 2205 through 2010.

The five percent target reduction will bring the total carbon dioxide emission reduction to ten percent from year 2000 to 2010. Aside from reducing the emission of their automobiles, the company will also target to reduce the carbon dioxide emission of their motorcycles by ten percent from 2000 to 2010.

In order for the company to attain the carbon dioxide emission reduction it has set, they have embarked on the development of advanced technologies for their vehicles. Some of these advanced technologies that they have developed are the improved Variable Cylinder Management system and other intelligent engine systems. Honda will also be producing affordable gas-electric hybrids made affordable so that it will be easily accessible for a huge number of car buyers. The company is also developing a clean diesel engine with reduced fuel consumption and reduced emission.

Honda is designing the diesel engine to have emissions that would be as clean as their fuel efficient gasoline engines. These vehicles will, of course, offer that trademark Honda reliability similar to the reliability of Volvo valve cover gasket.

In terms of production of vehicles, Honda also aims to reduce greenhouse gas emission. From year 2000 until 2005, the amount of carbon dioxide released into the atmosphere during the production of one Honda vehicle is reduced by five percent. The company intends to further reduce that by five percent more through year 2010. For the production of motorcycles, Honda is planning to reduce carbon dioxide emission by twenty percent through the year 2010.

Acura Sales Dips for March 2007

Automakers have once again started to release their sales figures for the month of March. One car manufacturer that has already reported their sales for the month of March is the luxury division of Honda which is Acura.

The luxury brand owned by Honda is known for producing high performance luxury and near-luxury vehicles. The brand was established in March of 1986 which makes the brand 21 years old at present. Recently, the brand released its 2007 March sales which show a 6.5 percent reduction in their sales for the month compared to last year. Last month, Acura sold 16,986 vehicles while last year, the Acura brand sold 17,524 units for the month of March.

While the brand may have suffered lowered overall sales, they announced that they have set a sales record for light trucks. Acura reported selling 7,209 units of light trucks for the month of March. The record setting sales of light trucks is due to the increasing popularity of the MDX and the RDX crossover sport utility vehicles.

The Acura MDX is a mid-size crossover SUV sold in the U.S. market since the 2001 model year. It is the first crossover SUV to feature a third row seating. The Acura RDX on the other hand is a compact crossover SUV which made its debut at the 2006 New York International Auto Show (NYIAS). Its competition includes the BMW X3, the Lincoln MKX and the Land Rover LR2.

Sales for the mid-size MDX reached 4,785 units and that is a sure improvement over last year. In March 200, Acura sold 4,682 units of the popular MDX. Year to date sale of the MDX is also up with 13,268 units sold for the first quarter of the year. Last year, after the first three months, Acura sold 12,833 units of the MDX.

The Acura RDX, on the other hand, is a new addition to Acura’s lineup posted strong sales figure of 2,424 units. Year to date sales for the RDX is now at 6,256 units. The best selling model for the Japanese brand is the Acura TL, the entry-level luxury car from the Asian outfit. The TL is the successor of the Acura Vigor and it is also the second best selling luxury sedan in the United States. Sales for the Acura TL reach 5,769 units. This number though is significantly lower than last year’s March sale for the model. In March 2006, Acura sold 6,767 units of the TL.

Another fast selling Acura model is the Acura TSX. The TSX is an entry-level sedan slated to compete against the BMW 3-Seiries, the Audi A4, the Mercedes-Benz C-Class, the Saab 9-3, and the Lexus IS. All these cars from Honda’s luxury brand are known for their smooth operation, as smooth as Volvo wheel bearings.

Wake Up, Mankind! Part Two

Wake up ,mankind! Part Two.

In part one of this series readers were challenged to examine their mindset in regard to their values and capacity to reason as well as understand that the current socio environmental problems are the result of our passive endorsement of the industrial culture.

A brief synopsis of the industrial culture:

What defines a culture is the ways in which human needs are satisfied and whether we can allow for more adequate satisfaction of the entire system of needs depends on how we organise our economic system. There is basically one culture remaining on this planet, the Industrial Culture. All others seem doomed to disappear. One of the most important tenets of the industrial culture is the belief in the eternally growing economy. However the spirit of industrialism is rapidly losing its’ grip. The doctrine of material growth has signally failed to provide people with any lasting ideals or values. The social order is expending all of its’ creative energy on just maintaining the status quo. When personal alienation feeds on ecological breakdown then all we have to look forward to is a veritable technocracy of ruins. We are now an overpopulated and over consuming society that is pressing the carrying capacity of the global ecosystem.

Political parties invariably, if understandably, have difficulty in adapting themselves to conditions other than those which gave them birth. By clinging with growing desperation to the industrial paradigm, by supposing that the politics of plenty is still the only way to achieve progress, they condemn both themselves and us. To them will fall the increasingly thankless task of dividing up an ever diminishing economic pie that they have promised should be getting larger; to us will fall the sordid consequences of so profound a failure collectively to get a grip on reality. The longer we resist the inevitability of change, the less chance is there that we will achieve it peacefully; the sooner we commit ourselves to change the easier such a process will be. We know that continued economic growth in developed countries will be at the expense of those who really need an increase in material well-being, the underprivileged in the Third World. There is no connection between increased living standards (beyond sufficiency) and happiness/contentment. There can be now doubt that material living standards in Australia have increased since 1960. However consider the rate of murder and other violent crime, the increase in drug and alcohol abuse and suicide. It would appear that we live in a less happy society in the third millennium than in 1960. It is difficult to draw a line between sufficiency and extravagance, however it is certain that in Australia we are dying of the stresses of abundance rather than the stresses of scarcity.

Again I state the theme of this series, if you want to change your world you must first change your thinking. Your primary resource is your life, your primary responsibilities are your actions and those of your children. What do you want out of life?

Make a list and then compare it to these: beauty, truth, love, freedom and peace.

I suggest that if you don’t know what you want, you will end up with something else. Therefore the first step must be to identify what you want, then to quantify it. These values mean different but similar things to everyone. I don’t expect you to dismantle to global political and financial systems in order to achieve a more satisfying life, I only suggest you realise what is really important to you and concentrate on obtaining those things and not suffer distractions.

Think about how you spend your average day and therefore most of your life?

The majority of people in industrial cultures spend their days mindlessly occupied performing unimportant tasks in the pursuit of increased wealth with which to purchase more consumer goods to make up for the fact that their lives lack meaning and value. It is not only possible to live in a luxurious house with a wealth of consumer goods and feel impoverished, it is in fact very common. Imagine you are at the end of your life, then do a rough calculation as to the percentage of it that really means anything, that was really worthwhile.

You like your contemporaries live the life that your society expects of you if you seek to live otherwise you are branded anti social and outcast. This has always been the case, people have rarely if ever been able to escape the confines of their times. Ants, sheep, people, not a lot of difference in the mind set really. The first step to escaping such a prison is understanding, the second is reason. The connecting link between the material man and the spiritual man is the intellectual man, for the mind partakes of both the material and immaterial qualities. Realise that your day to day existence is not in your best interests nor is it the way to achieve your potential in this life. Once you have done that, the rest is easy. Your values and attitudes will change accordingly, you may appear to continue your boring existence, but your thoughts and motivation will be altered. Your goals will be of a higher order. Ultimately you will work yourself out of the rut that you live in rather than to mire yourself deeper. Ie If you have got yourself into a hole, stop digging.

Realise that the day-to-day life in the industrial culture has no higher purpose.

Basically, WAKE UP! Live consciously; don’t merely exist in a dream state moving from one situation to another as they present themselves.

You accept that the way you live is not just right but the only way when in fact it is neither. Look at our past beliefs,

The earth is flat,

The earth is the centre of the solar system, galaxy and universe,

Man is separate from his environment and not a part of the web of life,

The laws of science are changed when a new theory comes along that fits with reality better than the previous theories.

So now we have the big bang theory that is being proven wrong by the discovery of new galaxies further away than would be possible under that theory. We are told that the universe is expanding out form a single point and that all of space is moving away from all else, and yet we see details of galaxies colliding which should not be possible. We have special and general theories of relativity because neither theory works under all conditions. All my life I was told there were nine planets in our solar system, astronomers discover some more and now there are only eight.

The studies of finance, economics and politics are not subject to the same scrutiny as science and yet remain largely unquestioned. A great part of our word starves whilst for economic reasons food is left to rot or is destroyed.

A few individuals have massed wealth greater than whole countries, and while these people have not necessarily done wrong in creating wealth and in many cases apply much of their wealth to the relief of poverty and hardship, the fact remains that wealth represents excess use of natural resources at some point. In order for us to create wealth we have had to produce more than our immediate need, this is stored as wealth.

What is needed is a new concept of wealth in order that it would be conceivable that every person on the planet could hope to attain it without destroying our delicate ecosystem.

I do not measure wealth in terms of what I have, but rather by what I am not lacking. I have my health, I have the love of my children who are also healthy, I have a (very) modest income and the ability to earn sufficient to meet my needs. I have more freedom than most, I have a roof over my head and sufficient healthy food, I can choose the hours I work around the local beach conditions, I can surf when I wish, lay on the beach when I wish and when I work, it is neither stressful nor boring. Nor is it well paid but that is the choice I made.

The result of my lifestyle choices is that I am free to live and think as I see fit on a daily basis, what I do and don’t do each day are the result of conscious choices. In the absence of the biases that arise out of the need to conform to society I have been able to think through to a new reality with independent values, new concepts of right and wrong based on a clear understanding of good and evil. A belief in a higher purpose that is supported by more than blind faith and yet allows understanding of the faith of others.

This has resulted in a self-actualisation where the needs of being a means to and end and the effect of being an end in my own right are reconciled.

Thus concludes part 2 of this series, part 3 will expand on understanding of human needs proving how these needs are interdependent and how to develop an ethical set of values.

Live Stronger and Longer

Live stronger and longer
Life is short, so play hard
Passionately live your dreams
Like there is no tomorrow
Identify and remove sorrow
Cultivate deep joy within
Don’t always lean and borrow
From others who pay the price
To dig deeper for precious life
Preparing and planning for more
Boldly opening opportunity’s door
Greatly going forward to ensure
Their hearts within are pure
Tender, attentive, and sensitive
To the inner divine inclinations
Images, impressions, and agitations
Listening and happily hearkening
To the Maker of earth and heaven
Uprooting and removing leaven
That would seek to dull and weaken
The necessary strong foundation
Upon which we’re established and stand
Anything less is merely sinking sand
Christ Jesus is the unshakeable rock
The immovable anchor where we dock
The Holy Spirit our guide and eternal clock
Positioning us for progress and purpose
Enabling us as a compass to stay on course
Exposing demons and negativity to divorce
Filling us to overflowing with divine force
Supernatural power to live victoriously
Every year, month, day, and hour
Lest the mediocrity of this world devour
Our priceless purity and fiery passion
Which we must fight for with aggression
Annihilate every enemy and evil foe
That would seek to enslave us below
Heaviness and apathy of heart and mind
My friend awake and arise in this your time
Break forth into blessings and joy full of glory
Rid your heart of fear and incessant worry
Be not troubled, overwhelmed, nor perplexed
For long enough has Satan your soul vexed
Today we shall conquer every fatal attack
With an unstoppable vengeance you’ll be back
As you triumph over every struggle and test
Zealously enter the unknown to be your best
Living stronger, longer, and happier in God
This is the path of the warrior on which to trod
All crippling fear and mental exhaustion goes
As here endless supernatural strength flows!

Weight Training for Women - Fitness for Weight Loss

As obesity levels rise higher and higher around the world, there is one aspect to this problem that hasn’t changed…

You have to expend some energy and put in some effort if you want to achieve weight loss and fitness with diet and slimming exercises and weight training.

While there are many ways to go about this one of the most efficient weight loss methods continually meets resistance… (Hmm. Maybe that’s why it’s called resistance training …) namely, weight training.

Women generally have the hardest time accepting weight (resistance) training into their fast fighting repertoire. After all, few women want to bulk up and look muscular and less feminine…
and that’s what’ll happen if you pump iron, right?

Wrong!

The only time you see a female body builder is when they’re posing on stage and a common reaction is ‘Yuk. I don’t want to look like that! I just want fitness and a nice slim figure.’

Yet if you saw those same women in normal clothes in normal situations you’d most likely want to have the trim, shapely body that they have.

The common misconception is that if you do weight training you are going to suddenly bloom out with muscles all over you. If only that were true; keeping the weight down would be easy.

The fact is, very few women could ever make themselves look like a Ms Olympia body builder. They are professional athletes who work incredibly hard in their training and on their diet in order to maximize their muscle mass and muscular appearance.

Believe me, getting too muscular is the least of your problems. So don’t reject this major weapon in your arsenal against body fat on a mistaken assumption.

Instead, consider what weight bearing exercise will do for you in the war on fat:

1. Build a firm foundation to your muscle structure.

You have muscles all over you. We all do. Without them we wouldn’t be able to move. Moderate resistance training is all that’s required to firm and tone your muscles. Remember, it takes a lot of work to actually look muscular.

2. Burn more calories right away.

You know aerobic exercise burns calories while you’ve doing them but a real boost comes from weight training. Your metabolism (rate of calorie burning) stays quite elevated for 20-40 minutes after an aerobic workout. With resistance training your metabolism stays elevated for at least an hour after your workout. Overall your metabolism will stay somewhat elevated and boosts calorie burning for anything from 4 to 24 hours depending on the intensity. It is important that your resistance training be progressively increased in intensity.

3. Burn even more calories in the long run.

With resistance training you are actually building muscle tissue, which is very active metabolically in comparison to fat, which is nearly inert. A kilo of muscle requires 50-100 calories a day just to maintain itself. So the more muscle tissue you have the more energy (fat) you’ll burn off just by living, even when you’re resting!

4. Strengthen bones and supporting muscle structure.

This is so you don’t become prematurely old, stooped and weak and susceptible to injury. This is a major reason why even women who don’t need to lose fat should still be concerned about maintaining muscle tissue.

5. Improve self-esteem.

When you look good you tend to feel good. With more toned muscle you not only look better but feel good because you actually have more energy. You feel more confident and positive about life, and better able to cope with stress.

So c’mon ladies, regardless of your age, let’s assist your diet and slimming program and boost your general fitness. It’s time to get into moving some weights around so you can move that excess weight off your body and raise the quality of body and life. Don’t wait. Start your weight training today.
