Hinduism - The Basic Ideas

Hinduism is one of the oldest religions in the world. Mahabharata was written more than 5000 years back. The Hindus call God as Brahman. Brahman is our soul. Brahman makes the whole world. There is nothing but Brahman in the world according to Hinduism. We do not see our true nature because of Maya. The goal is to break the curtain of Maya and see the self. Guru helps in doing that.

The foundation of Hinduism is non-dualism. God is same as we are. God shows himself as this world. Our objective is to achieve the godhood. That is the goal of a true Hindu. One who has done this becomes a Siddha.

Hinduism believes in the trinity of God. The three names are- Brahma, Vishnu and Mahesh. In different forms God performs differently. Brahma creates, Vishnu sustains and Mahesh or Shiva destroys. All three are same as Brahman.

Many people in India want to get extraordinary powers. Some of these powers are for doing well to others while others are for evil acts. That is black magic. For getting good powers, there is no way other than a true Guru. For other powers that are evil, people learn magic and do tantric and mantric practices. Most of these practices are performed in cremation grounds.

Beware of any Indian Guru who shows any magic. True Gurus avoid that. If you come across a guru who performs extraordinary actions, please keep away. You cannot follow more than one Guru. Following guru does not mean listening to him; it is much beyond that. Guru arouses the Kunadlini and helps his disciple reach enlightenment. Most of the Indians do not seek Guru. Most of them do not know who is a Guru. Any preacher can fool them. When a disciple attains enlightenment, he/she becomes Guru. Buddha, Lord Dattatreya, Ramakrishna, Baba Nityananda and Baba Muktananda are some of the Gurus of India.

Why Don Imus Was Right to be Sacked

The CBS popular radio announcer, Don Imus, who enjoys over two million listeners on the radio station WFAN, called the Black members of the Rutgers University team “nappy headed hoes”. As usual, he does not believe he is racist and leading Black leaders called for him to be fired. As a Black person, normally I would be against anyone losing their job or livelihood because of a racist remark, no matter how abhorrent. But this case is different for three main reasons.

First, Imus has had thirty years in his job, building up a sizable audience for his morning show; people who, no doubt, look to him for guidance and being a role model. One would have thought that those years in the job would have given him a sensitivity for the feelings of his audience and a respect for the listeners who keep him there. One would also have expected that such long years would have built up an expertise which fosters the kind of responsibility and respect we would expect from such an experienced talk show host.

Yet, his critics say that during his thirty years he has shown a ‘pattern of racially charged remarks’ which he retorted were either ‘misinterpreted’ or ’satirical’. Regardless of misinterpretation, or otherwise, they were still racist, yet he did not desist. But racist remarks of any kind have no place in the vocabulary of someone on the public stage who is supposed to be serving a diverse audience. Being in a position of authority, especially with the privilege of being White in a majority White community, carries certain responsibilities as well as rights. We cannot attack people who are weak, or powerless, then say we are not bullies. Just as one cannot continue to use racist language down the years, aimed at vulnerable members of the community, then say one is not racist. It’s a contradiction in terms. If we use the language of the bully, we are bullies, and if we use the language of the racist, we are racist. We cannot use the language of hate if we aspire to love. The two are incompatible.

Language Conveys Meaning

Second, the language we use defines who we are. For example, the word ‘boredom’ does not exist in my vocabulary. I have never used it in my lifetime to describe my feelings because I have too much to do in any one day and cannot find the time to be bored at any point. The word NO does not exist for me either, especially when trying to achieve something, because I believe everything is possible. Someone else who does not believe that will think ‘no’ first before they look at the possibilities. Moreover, I have never thought of saying anything racist about another person because I value every person and treat them with respect until they show me otherwise. So language is not just something we learn to use for communication or our benefit; not just something we pluck out of the air at random. Language represents who we are, body and soul, and the meanings we wish to convey.

We cannot use negative language and achieve positive aims, neither can we put down others and expect to make friends with them. Language reflects our identity, ethics, beliefs, who we are and aspire to be. We give life to what we believe through language. We would NEVER use words we are not comfortable with unless we are coerced. We also stamp our own style on our use of words so much that when something comes from us which doesn’t sound in line with our personalities, not the ‘normal’ thing we would say, people begin to wonder. Language comes from the heart and the head to reflect exactly who we are and what we value. So when we use negative terms against others, we are actually demonstrating our fears, our insecurities, our low self-esteem, prejudices and, most of all, our feeling of power over them. We have the power to say such remarks, so we do it. Otherwise, why would this man, who has a job many would die for, wish to say something so awful about vulnerable women far away he didn’t even know - comparing Black beauty to White beauty which is culturally incomparable.

Finally, his responsibilities. Don Imus has a radio programme which goes out to a diverse community with sponsors from that community. When he disparagingly talks about certain people in such racist ways, what message is he giving to his Black listeners about their worth and value? Most important, how does he expect those listeners to react who thinks him worthy enough for their time in tuning in to his programme? Sometimes, as we get so bloated with our own power, we forget about respect to the people who put us where we are. The word RESPECT has sensitivity at its core. Where was Imus’ sensitivity to his diverse audience?

However, the comment which summed up the real effect of Don’s offensive remarks came from Senator Barack Obama about his children and went straight to the heart of the issue with its simplicity. “He didn’t just cross the line,” Obama said in an interview. “He fed into some of the worst stereotypes that my two young daughters are having to deal with today in America. The notions that as young African-American women…..that somehow makes them less beautiful or less important. It was a degrading comment….”

Imus abused the authority placed in him as a public announcer, one who is supposed to be serving ALL members of his public, not just the White section of it. If he decides to make racist fodder out of others, he should know that carries consequences. By showing little sensitivity to his diverse audience and supporters with those awful sexist and racist remarks, he effectively relinquished the authority vested in him to act in an unbiased way and forfeited that respect. It depends on the society we seek if we can actually condone such discriminatory behaviour in the 21st century. The world has moved on a lot with our global interaction, a point that certain old hands are ignoring and resisting until they are foced to acknowledge it. Perhaps for the first time in his life, Don Imus is learning that certain actions have consequences, and free speech actually carries responsibilities for ensuring the rights of everyone.

Disability Help - How To Overcome Panic Attacks?

Panic attacks arise of anxiety disorder and can have a life-changing impact on a person. It not only leaves a person helplessly distressed but also makes one see oneself as a lesser individual. This plays havoc with one’s confidence and self-image. It has also seen that the person who undergoes panic attacks frequently tends to stay alone and does not even try to mix up with others, which depresses the person further.

During panic attacks the person starts panting as though he or she had run miles, has a severe headache and may vomit. These attacks must not be ignored, and if they are quite frequent, a competent specialist must be consulted immediately.

However, one need not worry because the condition is very much reversible. You are supposed to choose either the medication way or the natural alternatives to it.

The medication available these days has undergone tremendous change and offers a great deal more than the medication available a few years back. However, all the drugs are considered to have some kind of side effect. Besides, the relief they provide is most temporary. Even if you have settled for the medication way instead of the alternative natural therapy, do consult a doctor before you start medication because not all drugs suit everyone. Taking the wrong drug could be plainly dangerous.

So far as the alternative cures available are concerned, you have ample. One of them is relaxation therapy, which lays emphasis on controlled breathing. It works on the fact that controlled breathing helps one calm down and relieve stress and anxiety. Since the method uses no medicines, it has no side effects and can be leaned by anyone in a very short span of time.

Another well-known alternative natural therapy that works in most of the cases is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. It works on the proven assumption that our active thoughts have the capability of changing our subconscious reactions and can, therefore, cure panic attacks, as they are one’s reaction to certain kind of situations.

Once a person learns to train the brain to block negative thoughts, panic attacks can be history in no time at all. This therapy, too, does not involve any drugs, which means it has no side effects.

Therefore, there is no reason for you to suffer from panic attacks any more. Choose the right cure and you are sure to say goodbye to the problem.

What Does It Mean to Be Spiritual?

You go to church every Sunday and you say your prayers every day. Does this mean you are a spiritual person?

No.

You practice yoga and meditate every day. Does this mean you are a spiritual person?

No.

You belong to spiritual group and are devoted to following the teachings of the group. Does this mean you are a spiritual person?

No.

What, then, does it mean to be a spiritual person?

Being a spiritual person is synonymous with being a person whose highest priority is to be loving to oneself and others. A spiritual person cares about people, animals, and the planet. A spiritual person knows that we are all one, and consciously attempts to honor this oneness. A spiritual person is a kind person.

So, you can go to church every Sunday and say your prayers every day, without caring about loving yourself, others and the planet. You can practice yoga and meditate every day without being conscious of what is loving and what is not loving in your thoughts and actions. You can belong to a spiritual group and devotedly follow the teachings, yet still be judgmental toward yourself and others in your daily life.

There are many people who do not practice a religion, who do not meditate, pray or belong to any group, who are very spiritual people. These people naturally do caring things for others. They think about how they can help. Their thoughts are kind rather than judgmental toward themselves and toward others. When you look at them, you see their kindness in their eyes.

There are many religious people who are anything but kind. We all know of religious people who are extremely judgmental, righteous, and outright mean. Can you be both religious and spiritual? Of course! But only when you are operating in your religion from your heart rather than from the learned dogma of your mind.

Years ago I very briefly attended a “spiritual” group. People would meet in an auditorium to hear the leader of the group speak. The second time I attended I heard a number of parents yelling at their children and judging them to try to control them. These parents were being anything but kind with their children. That was the last time I attended the spiritual group. The focus of the group was surrender to God, but love was rarely in the picture! They obviously had a very different experience of God than I did.

My experience of God is that God is the energy of Love that created us and sustains us. In my experience, “God is Spirit” (John 4:24) and “God is love” (1 John 4:16). Anything that is not of love, peace, joy, truth and kindness is not of God. Praying to God does not mean that you are allowing the spirit that is God - the love, peace, joy, truth and kindness that is God - to guide your thoughts and actions. Practicing yoga or meditating does not mean that you have invited the love that is God into your heart, or that you are turning to that ever-present love to learn about what is in your highest good, and the highest good of others and the planet.

If you want to be a spiritual person, then let kindness be your guiding light - kindness toward yourself, toward others, toward animals, and toward this beautiful planet that is our home. Recognize that we all have the spark of love that is God within us, and learn to honor that love so that you can know and experience the Oneness of all that is.

OTC Currency Options Explained

OTC (Over the Counter) Currency options are defined as bilateral contracts, the value of which is derived from the value of some underlying asset or security. A Derivative covers any transaction where there is no movement of principle, and where the price performance of the derivative itself is driven by the price of the underlying asset.

It is especially this aspect (the no movement of principle) that makes Derivatives such useful instruments to hedge other exposures and to do specialized risk management.

Foreign exchange derivatives are the following:
–Currency Options
–Forex Futures
–Swaps and Forwards

Foreign Exchange derivatives can be traded over the counter or on organized exchanges - On organized exchanges fixed and prescribed contracts are bought and sold. An OTC derivative instrument is tailored to customer’s specifications regarding the specific dates, currencies and total amounts involved.

One of the main differences between exchange traded currency derivatives and OTC currency derivatives is the credit risk. In the OTC Market each party takes on the risk of the other party - On an exchange, the exchange’s clearinghouse covers the parties’ risk. In the OTC Market, because of the very specific contract details, liquidity may be very low, i.e. it may not be easy or possible to trade with such an instrument if the right party cannot be found.

A Currency option gives the holder the chance to fix the rate of exchange that will apply to a future exchange transaction. The Option writer (the seller of the option) must guarantee the rate chosen by the holder. For this guarantee a fee is charged. The holder of the option has all the rights implicit to the option but only one obligation - he must pay the fee.

The Option writer or seller has all the obligations, but no rights. In return for the fee he must have the underlying currency on hand (in stock) in case the holder chooses to exercise his option.

Currency Options can also be exercised at expiry or they can be sold back or sold on at any time during the duration of the transaction for fair value, which depends on the underlying currency price movements. Alternatively they can be physically delivered.

Currency Options is more flexible than a traditional forward outright foreign exchange transaction and gives the holder several alternatives:

–Whether, to exercise the option?
–When to exercise the option?
–How much to exercise?
–At what price to exercise?

This is a very simple and concise explanation of what is OTC Currency Options.

5 Ways to Approach the Job Search

You’ve drudged your way through college.
You’ve got that shiny diploma in your hand.
You’ve prepared yourself mentally and physically.

All you need to do now is get a job.

Eeeeeeeeeeek!

Relax. Job searching doesn’t have to be stressful. Let’s explore five ways to undergo your job search with attitudes (and actions) of approachability.

Attitude
Approachability starts in the mind. You must first understand your strengths, goals and desires before even considering a job. Ask yourself the following questions:

*Are your goals written out with specific dates and numbers?

*Do you carry your goal sheet with you at all times?

*Do you have a daily job search plan?

The answers to these questions will help you approach your search with an attitude that will attract the right people and situations.

Business Cards
Wait a minute: how can you have business cards if you don’t have a job?

Exactly. That’s why you need them. You never know whom you might meet! Go to your local copy shop, meet with a professional designer and create your own personal cards. Include pertinent information such as name, phone number, email, job objective, email and personal website, if you have one.

Remember, it’s not that opportunity doesn’t knock, it’s that people aren’t prepared to answer the door. Get your contact cards today!

Contacts
Speaking of contacts, here’s a great exercise. Sit down and make a list of every single person you know. It might sound tough, but odds are, you’ll easily be able to come up with over 100 people. Make a spreadsheet showing how long you’ve known them, where THEY work, and how they might be able to help.

Then, (and here comes the hard part)…

CALL EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM.

Scary? Yes. But the Federal Bureau of Labor did a study in 2004 indicating that 70% of all new jobs come from some sort of networking.

So, simply tell these people what type of job you’re looking for, and ask if they might keep their eyes open for you. Also tell them how to best get a hold of you.

No hard selling. Just a gentle reminder. You never know! After all, everybody is somebody’s somebody.

Discipline
The key to any job-hunting approach is discipline. It’s about your willingness to be on the phone, schedule interviews, submit resumes, meet with potential employers, attend networking functions and email people in your network EVERY SINGLE DAY.

Every. Single. Day.

Make it your goal to do five job-hunting activities on a daily basis. That’s 25 a week and 100 a month. Stick to that and your chances of obtaining a position will skyrocket!

Expectations
Because a large part of approachability is mental, you need to underscore your attitude with expectations. Every morning, read aloud affirmations to yourself such as:

“Today I will be an amazing interview!”
“Today I will make great contacts to whom I can provide value!”
“Today I will persist until there is no time left in the day!”

Have fun with this. Create your own affirmations. Spend 15 minutes every morning preparing yourself mentally. It will lay a foundation of approachability and attraction throughout the remainder of your day.

Sure, it may sound hokey. Your spouse may even make fun of you.

But just because it’s hokey doesn’t mean it doesn’t work.

Ultimately, your job search doesn’t have to be a chore. With these techniques, ideas and suggestions, you can make it fun! More importantly, you can make it fruitful with attitudes (and actions) of approachability.
