The Math Behind “How I Made $9,716.41 While I Slept”

You’ve seen those sales pages - “Buy my secret system and discover how I made $9,716.41 while I slept!” (specifying an exact amount like that is supposed to build credibility).

Are those claims real?

Common sense says no, but it’s so tempting to believe that someone really is selling the secret to wealth for just $47.

Assuming the person selling the information really did make that amount of money quickly, the math of selling it for so little just doesn’t add up.

Suppose you discovered a secret that allows you to make $10,000 a month for very little work. In order for you to be tempted to reveal this secret, you’d have to think you can make more than $10,000 a month selling it (or make that same amount with less work).

Let’s imagine you decide you could sell this information in an ebook for $50. In order to equal the $10,000 you make using the information, you would have to sell 200 copies of that ebook a month. Selling that volume in ebooks a month is certainly not unheard of in the internet marketing world, but how much time and effort goes into selling 200 ebooks a month?

More time and effort than it takes to make $10,000 using your information?

How many ebook copies would you have to sell a month for the extra aggravation of handling customer support and marketing for the ebook to be worth it? 500, 1000? How many more would you have to sell to make $10,000 a week or $10,000 a day like so many internet marketers claim?

That’s the math you have to do when evaluating someone’s “I’ll make you rich” claims.

If the information is valid and if you can use it to make money yourself, why does the author think they can make more money selling the information than using it?

  1. It’s a scam. The only way the author is making money is by selling the ebook.
  2. The information is outdated. For whatever reason, the income figures that the author is touting to sell the information aren’t repeatable.
  3. Marketing and selling the ebook is either much less work than using the information or makes the author much more money than using the information.

In any of these scenarios, selling the information makes the author more money than using the information or they wouldn’t be selling it. Buy that ebook if you want to, just realize the author is making more money selling the ebook to you than they are in using the information it contains themselves…

How Much Joy and Happiness Can You Hold?

As humans we have a harder time staying in joy and happiness than we do in pain and struggle. Joy is a very high, clear vibration in which life flows effortlessly and gracefully. Pain is a slow, low vibration that attracts disharmony and upset into our life. When we are in pain and are struggling, we are cut off from our natural connection to the heavens. This energy source that sustains all life and from which all creation comes is meant to flow to us freely, easily and abundantly. It is our God-given natural state to be in the high vibration of joy, yet, for must humans it is not the familiar state.

Let me explain what I mean by natural and familiar. “Natural” means what we have been created to experience effortlessly and spontaneously as our genuine selves. God created us to experience joy as our natural state. Enthusiasm is natural. Laughing a lot is natural. Feeling strong and secure is natural. It is natural to feel a zest for life although most people over eight years old have not felt such zest for a long, long time.

“Familiar” means what has become commonplace and habitual because of how frequently we have experienced it in our lives. Pain and struggle have become the familiar life experience for most people. It is unfamiliar to be happy and joyful all the time: intentionally choosing to create more and more of what brings increased joy to others and to ourselves.
Staying in a high vibration of joy and happiness and creating a wonderful life is the opportunity given to every one of us and one of the primary purposes of our time on earth. To achieve and maintain this high vibratory state, we must become aware of the patterns we continually recreate that keep us experiencing pain and struggle. As well as becoming aware of these patterns, we need to understand why we create them. For most of us there is a belief that these patterns add some value to our lives.

Examine your own beliefs. If you were told you could have a life completely free of pain and hardship, would you believe it was possible? What do you believe the struggles and hardships of your life offer you? Do you believe you could create those same benefits and claim those same blessings in a constant state of joy and happiness and prosperity? If you lived in a constant state of joy and happiness and prosperity, could you stay in a place of compassion and humility? Do you need adversity to keep you humble and submissive to God? As long as pain and struggle have hidden values to you, you will need them in your life.

You must choose to experience joy and happiness. The more happiness you generate, the more life presents you with experiences to feel happy about. If you are feeling blue or downright depressed, you must make a conscious decision to “get happy.”
Here are a few suggestions to help you create happiness so it starts to become your familiar state:
1. Choose to be happy rather than right.
2. Repeat aloud: “it doesn’t matter.”
3. For every kind deed offered to you, do a kind deed for someone else.
4. Write thank-you notes often. The energy of gratitude feeds happiness.
5. Smile—even if you don’t feel like it. You eventually will.
6. When you think a complimentary thought about someone—tell them.
7. Refrain from judgments—think something positive instead.
8. Whistle.
9. Skip around your house.
10. Turn on your favorite upbeat song and sing along.

There will always be the contrast of pain and hardship available to us. The old belief has been, “I am learning and growing through adversity.” The new belief can be, “I am learning and growing through joy and happiness.” The question to ask yourself now is, “How much joy and happiness can you hold, and how long can you hold it?”

Essence of Affiliate Communication - The Affiliate Newsletter

Affiliate programs are reliant on their affiliates to sell and pre-sell their products and services. Affiliates expect regular communication, open communication channels to contact their Affiliate Manager, and improvements from their affiliate program. Welcome the affiliate newsletter; an important document connecting affiliate programs with their affiliates worldwide.

The affiliate newsletter allows Affiliate Managers to brief their sales force all in one fell swoop, which is impossible geographically without the Internet. The main components of affiliate newsletter are to recap affiliate’s progress, a clear to call action and an effort to build relationships. Newsletters are received by the handful for most affiliates, so catching their attention is a must. A smart, calculated subject line is an important first step in engaging your audience. A recap of past efforts is a nice personal touch for most affiliates (even though they generally track their own stats). The body of the newsletter should be your call to action. What do you want your affiliates to accomplish over the next measurable period of time. Preparing goals based on the S.M.A.R.T. method (Specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, and timely) lay down a reasonable plan that affiliates can accept and digest before setting out to obtain goals set forth. After goals are laid out and explained the next step in the newsletter offers tools the affiliate program is providing. Coupons, discounts, promotional offers, datafeeds or any other tools should be listed and emphasized by the Affiliate Manager. The final section of the newsletter should contain any incentives or bonuses affiliates will be able to earn; these offers should be time sensitive. The newsletter pulled together should be a cohesive communication that is informative and easy to understand.

Affiliate newsletters suffer from three major pitfalls. The newsletter email is eaten by SPAM controls and the affiliate never even sees the newsletter. The newsletter does not captivate their audience and the affiliate disregards the letter. The most frusterating downside to emailing newsletters is that you are going to receive a sizable portion of unreturned/undeliverable mail. Either the addresses are wrong or they have strong anti-SPAM measures, but an Affiliate Manager must find a way around broken emails in order to contact affiliates. Overall, if an affiliate newsletter has an open rate of above 30% and a click-through rate of 10-15% then the newsletter is a success. Affiliate newsletters are a great tool to motivate affiliates and encourage them to reach new heights with their affiliate sites.

Learn How to Succeed By Mentoring - Not Selling

Network marketing has been filled with success stories as well as failures in the past 50 years. There are plenty of reasons why there are more failures than successes, but the major reasons are not so obvious.

One reason for a high failure rate is that people join and don’t do anything to build it like a business. Network marketing IS a business and should be treated like one. It requires a plan, a system and perseverance. Too many people “try” a network marketing company to “see how it goes.” These are the people that you don’t want in your organization. You want serious business builders that simply duplicate what the successful people do. The “see how it goes” people are just not serious enough. They will be the ones constantly complaining about it not working and they will suck you dry of time and energy and are often the ones that jump from one program to the next.

Then there are those people who think of all network marketing opportunities as “get rich quick schemes.” Sure, the possibilities are there to make a substantial income with network marketing and it could happen faster than a regular job, but nothing is going to happen over night. Just because you sign up for a program doesn’t mean you’re going to make money. You aren’t “entitled” to anything for doing nothing, and that’s a fact of life. My experience working in an officer position for a major U.S. bank opened my eyes to the reality of this. My pension plan would pay me about $2,000 per month when I retire from the company. This would be after working for the company for 20 years!! Yikes! With network marketing, I could make $10,000 per month RESIDUAL INCOME after one year if I did it right! After doing the math (which took about a whole 2 seconds), I realized what I really had in my hands.

The third reason for failure that I want to mention in this article is that people try to make it into a sales business. It’s not! Stop trying to sell your business to someone else! You are not here to convince people. You are here to look for the one that is looking and present the opportunity. If they are interested, you simply train and mentor. That’s it! You train and mentor them to duplicate what you do…train and mentor. The moment you think of it as a sales business, you’re sunk.

Here are two key things to keep in mind when talking to someone about your primary business:

  1. You can not say the wrong thing to the right person.
  2. You can not say the right thing to the wrong person.

Don’t try to “convince” someone they should join and don’t worry about messing up what you say. You’ll get discouraged and end up quitting yourself. Just present the opportunity. I once had a guy email about my opportunity and he said, “I challenge you to convince me this is the right opportunity for me.” I kindly replied to him stating that I don’t consider it a challenge. I told him that I GET the opportunity, and if he didn’t that’s fine. It’s not my “job” to convince people. I wouldn’t want him to feel he has to convince people as well should he join me. Realize it is not an event, it is a process. Expecting overnight success won’t happen without action. If you change your perspective on network marketing and focus on duplicating a “mentorship”, then your chances of success are almost guaranteed.

Darren Robinson has been involved in network marketing for a number of years. Many of those years spent in frustration and failure. Now, success is all that happens in his life and you can visit Darren’s blog at http://workathomefreedom.blogspot.com for more articles to help you achieve your goals.

10 Tips For Successful Weightloss

1) Eat Less Fat- Everyone knows that eating less fat helps you lose weight. The only problem is that some people will eat fat-free foods in larger amounts. This is not a good idea. Fat-free foods still have calories, and if you are eating more calories than you are burning off you will not lose weight.

2) Exercise- Exercise is a very important part of losing weight and keeping it off. You can’t burn calories if you are sitting on the couch watching T.V. You should try to exercise at least 5 times a week, 30 minutes each time. You could also work out for 10 minutes 3 times a day, and it would be just as affective as a 30 minute session.

3) Eat Slowly- This is a very easy technique for weight loss. It has been proven that it takes the brain about 20 minutes to start signaling feelings of fullness. If you eat to fast, you will end up eating more than you need to to be full. Take smaller bites and just try to take at least 30 minutes to eat your meal.

4) Lift Weights- The reason this will help you lose weight is simple. The more muscle tissue you have, the more calories you will burn. Muscle is active tissue and fat is not. This means that muscle will “burn” a good number of calories a day just for it’s own maintenance.

5) Remember To Lose Weight SLOWLY- Losing weight fast is not healthy, and you most likely won’t keep the weight off. When you are losing weight too fast, you are most likely losing water and muscle and not fat. This is not good because you need the water and muscle to keep your metabolism level elevated. You want a weight loss of no more than 2-3 pounds a week.

6) Keep a Food Diary- Keeping a food diary can really help in your quest to lose weight. Spend some time every day to record what you have eaten and how much, how hungry you were before you ate, and any emotions existent at that time. Keeping a food diary can provide a large amount of self-awareness. It can help to identify emotions that lead to overeating, make you more aware of your portion sizes, and help you discover your personal food triggers. By studying the diary you will probably notice patterns, then you can make some conscious behavioral changes to fix the problems.

7) Eat Smaller Portions- These days the portions you get from restaurants are huge. Just because someone puts a huge plate of food in front of you doesn’t mean you have to eat it all. You should always eat slow, and stop eating when you are full, not when you are stuffed.

8) Focus More on Being Healthy, Not on “Getting Skinny”- Studies have shown that trying to be healthier will end up in healthy weight loss. Trying to get “skinny” will usually end up in unhealthy weight loss that will just come back. Try to focus on picking out healthy foods, not foods you think will make you “skinny”. It is suggested that you follow the food pyramid for optimal health.

9) Get Support- A big part of long term weight control comes from receiving encouragement and support from others. Look around your area for any kind of weight loss support groups.

10) Find Your Emotional Connection- Most of the time overeating is caused by some kind of emotion. It could be stress, boredom, loneliness, anger, depression, and the list goes on. You should try to learn about your personal eating triggers and then learn how to react to them without food. If you feel that your emotional connection to food is too strong then you can seek help from a licenced counselor or psychologist in your area.

Used Car Buying Tips - Getting The Most From The Test Drive

When you are in the process of buying a used car, the test drive is a very important part of the decision making process. While most look at the test drive simply as fun, it’s actually a lot more than that. Here are five things you should do when taking a test drive of a used car:

1. Inspect the key before you put it in the ignition. Make sure it is not worn, cracked, or otherwise damaged.

2. After you check the odometer when you get in the car, keep an eye on it while you drive. Does it seem like the mileage is adding up reasonably? If you go two miles and the odometer doesn’t move, this is reason to be concerned.

3. Do you hear any clicking noises when driving at slow speeds?

4. Make sure to test the steering wheel and the car’s turning ability. If possible, try to drive in a circle in an empty parking lot. Make some sharp turns during the drive to ensure the car steers well.

5. If the car has cruise control get it going at 50 plus miles per hour to test it. If you are unable to test the car at this high of a speed, you can test the cruise control at a higher speed. Ideally, it should be tested at a higher speed.

Taking a test drive is fun, but you should be sure to learn about your car during the test. Use these five tips to make sure you get the most out of your test drive.

Ebooks That Solve Problems Will Earn You Money

Ebooks that solve problems sell best because people generally are lazy and want their problems solved for them. And I’m not complaining, it’s great because I don’t mind writing ebooks for these people. Why? Because they will pay good money for information that makes their life easier.

You’ve heard it before…. A win-win situation. And it’s true.

What is your background, really think about it. What things do you know that would solve problems for others? They don’t have to be earth shaking problems. Write an ebook that solves problems as simple as getting gum out of hair without they use of scissors. How about 10 best tips for being the best babysitter?

By the way you didn’t hear me say that an ebook that solves problems has to be a hundred pages did you!! Not at all. If it solves a problem in 10 pages, then it’s a report and it will work just as well.

I love to write tips for tasks in software packages. I can write a few tips, make a report and sell it for $5.00. It takes me about an hour and it sells and keeps making me $5.00 a pop. I can crank out a lot of tips after teaching for 20 years. ebooks that solve problems through tips that can be as short as a few paragraphs to as long as a few pages, but short reads. Make it easy for people to remember.

You can take reports that solve problems and as long as you have the rights to them, you can combine them into a very helpful ebook that solves problems.

Example: I write reports or tips on specific tasks in Microsoft Word, Excel, and other software packages. Once I have 20 to 30 sets of tips done up I can create an ebook with all of them in it. I am a really fanatic for short cuts and love to share them with people and earn extra money in the process.

Keep an open mind and a pen and pad in your pocket. Write down any and all ideas for tips and helpful problem solving ideas. They are worth gold to you.

I love fly-fishing for bass, trout and salmon and have fished for many years. I do plan to write a ‘Tips for Trophy Trout’ for my local conditions in the Maritimes. Even including a few of my best fly-fishing flies that I tie myself.

How many friends do you have that are full of great ideas, pick their brains and make some money doing. Let your friends fill your mind with ebooks that solve problems and earn you money.

Now another way to go if you find that for some reason you were not blessed with anything at all in your life. Well there are Private Label Rights products.

Private Label Rights products are articles and ebooks that have already been written for you. All you do is purchase them and then take the time to modify them using synonyms and add some text to make them unique.

Then you have an ebook that solves problems and it took you very like time or money to prepare and then you can start earning from that point on.

Now there is absolutely no reason for you not to succeed. You can earn any amount of money on the internet as long as you come up with ebooks that solve problems for people. You have them and they help you without hesitation.

James Mann has been writing manuals and guides for 20 years and since he has retired James now writes ebooks that solve problems for people. eBooks That Solve Problems

VOIP Over Satellite Internet: A White Paper from Galaxy Broadband Communications

Voice over IP (VoIP) Over Satellite

A White Paper by Galaxy Broadband Communications Inc.
April 2007

Voice over IP or VoIP is fast becoming accepted as a communications platform. The purpose of this paper is to describe the particular challenges with VoIP over satellite, including the inherent latency of satellite connections and their effect on VoIP quality.
At Galaxy Broadband we have been involved with VoIP over satellite for many years and understand the unique advantages and disadvantages users of this technology are faced with. We have experimented with various hardware and software configurations and service providers over the years with both success and failure. This paper will provide background of the issues and present our recommendations.

Who Should Consider Using VoIP Over Satellite
If you are contemplating purchasing a satellite Internet system just so you can eliminate your telephone company and save $35.00 a month, we suggest you reconsider. Voice over Satellite Internet should be considered as a viable option only if you do not have a reliable wired telephone line. Those in remote areas where cell phone, radiophones, or satellite phones are the only options to communicate with the outside world can benefit from this technology and should seriously evaluate the benefits, including cost savings.

VoIP as a Technology
VoIP begins when a regular telephone is connected to a local device called an ATA or VoIP router. This device converts actual sound waves into data packets by way of a process referred to as a codec. Not all codecs are equal, and it’s very important that the user use the right one, especially when using a satellite connection. These packets travel in the same way as data packets to a destination (VoIP Service Provider) where they are converted back from data packets to sound waves for the calling number to hear.

An amusing story we like to tell about VoIP over satellite Internet is about a geologist working at a drilling location in Northern Alberta. Prior to installing his new system, the geologist had to drive several miles to a hilltop to make a cell phone call which was usually hit or miss whether it connected at all. Given his daily billing rate this was an expensive proposition, let alone the inconvenience factor. His newly installed satellite Internet configured for VoIP offered calling from the comfort of his camp but if the connection halted or missed in any way, even a single syllable missing, he would immediately complain and cuss about the technology! Why would he react this way when 99% of his calls were good enough to carry on a conversation? You won’t see him or anyone else tossing a cell phone out the window during frequent “burps” so why the lack of tolerance in VoIP? The answer lies in a peculiar perception about VoIP created by a combination of expectations in new technology and popular culture.

VoIP over Satellite Internet works, but it’s not perfect. In fact, VoIP is not a perfected technology in itself, let alone the additional complications due to the satellite link. The voice quality can be quite good, often better than a cell phone call, but it is definitely not toll quality to most modern terrestrial telephone networks.

Satellite Latency and its Affect on VoIP
Latency is the term that describes the time it takes to get a packet to its destination. It is usually expressed in milliseconds, or ms. Since the satellites are located 23,000 miles above the equator, and satellite signals travel at the speed of light, this journey takes approximately 540 ms. You then add on the latency of the various Internet hops and servers plus the VoIP provider’s network to end with a total latency in the range of 650 ms to 700ms or more depending on the state of the Internet itself. Another contributing factor could be the quality of your satellite signal which may cause packets to be resent. This latency is heard as a delay between the sender and the receiving ear. Users of VoIP over satellite need to learn how to communicate with this inherent latency much like the older press-to-talk radio phones. Further, the delay requires the users to be patient and refrain from interrupting the caller.

VoIP on the Ground
Even using terrestrial low latency connections, VoIP is still facing challenges due to the multiple hops and connections of the Internet itself. The technology is good, and likely getting better, but still not perfect.

Shared Networks over Satellite
Satellite Service Providers offer service plans in two major categories. The lowest price group are referred to as best effort networks designed for general Internet access for a typical home, farm, or small business with web surfing and email the primary uses. The second category are commercial grade connectivity plans with Quality of Service. Quality of Service or QoS is an industry term for networks that offer end users specific optimization and performance assurances and tend to be closely managed.

Both of theses network types are shared networks meaning the available bandwidth is shared among all users. Virtually all Internet access providers including cable and DSL share their bandwidth with multiple users, but since satellite space is much more expensive than local wires, the satellite services tend to have more users to share the cost. The price is a good indication of the number of users sharing the available bandwidth. Given a similar speed offering, the lower the price the more users share the available space. Overloaded networks will result in fluctuating performance.

“Best Effort Plans” Networks
As the term implies, packets sent and received arrive at their respective destinations at the earliest possible time depending upon the traffic. No users or particular applications receive priority. All home or small office Service Plans offered by virtually all internet access service providers on satellite or terrestrial are “best effort”. The price per month is a good indicator as to the number of users allowed on the network as the more on, the lower the cost to all. This results in fluctuating speeds depending upon the time of day. Peak times like evenings or after school gets out tend to have more users on the network as compared to early in the morning. If a VoIP user is conducting a conversation during congested periods, the voice packets will slow or drop resulting in missed syllables.

So, given the need for more users to share in the overall cost of the network itself and the additional latency of the connection itself, VoIP over best effort satellite networks will encounter performance problems.

QoS Networks
Think of a Best Effort plan (above) as a freeway with congested traffic where traffic stops and starts according to the number of cars trying to drive on the road at the same time. If the freeway had a priority lane (an HOV or high occupancy lane is an example in some cities) or an open lane that only some cars were entitled to travel on, these cars would travel faster without congestion because the lane is open. This is the benefit of a QoS Service Plan on a managed network. Time sensitive traffic can be prioritized to reach its destination sooner and without starts and stops. However, this comes with an added cost.

For end users needing VoIP over satellite Internet to work consistently well a QoS managed network that specifically prioritizes voice packets is required.

Minimum Connection Speed
The codec used by the VoIP provider is the key determining factor on connection speed for VoIP to work consistently well. Most big name VoIP providers that sell primarily to terrestrial cable and DSL customers are designed to work without the latency of satellite. These services don’t work well on satellite and tend to use codec that need a higher minimum bandwidth. Satellite service providers use codecs that require 30 kbps or less to function well. It is important that the end user works with their satellite service provider to insure the VoIP router or ATA device is configured with the correct codec for satellite.

The Importance of a Properly Installed Antenna on Performance
Most people today are familiar with satellite TV which is a one-way service, meaning a satellite TV dish picks up radio signals from 23,000 miles out in space. Satellite Internet not only picks up signals, but it also sends radio signals back to the satellite 23,000 miles out in space! This two-way communication requires a very precise antenna properly mounted so it can hit a receiving dish 20 feet wide on the satellite. Any “misses” result in lost transmissions so they must be sent again, slowing the speeds. If the user is transmitting a voice packet, these misses result in a lost syllable or two. Data packets lost are rarely discernable but VoIP packets lost can be heard. Using weather proven antennas, well engineered mounting systems, and a professional installation will result in a dish that can consistently send an accurate signal to hit the satellite every time.

911 Calling
911 Service for VoIP providers requires special attention since in many cases, there is no land based telephone line attached to a physical address that emergency responders can go to. It is important to consider the ramifications of this before deciding on VoIP, and with the added mobility of satellite, it becomes more of an issue. Most VoIP service providers have specific 911 Service solutions that may include a call center equipped with a database of last known location but the end user is responsible to keep this updated.

Summary
Voice over IP over Satellite Internet works but the degree that the end user is generally satisfied with the service will depend entirely upon the quality of the satellite service and the connection itself. QoS networks will work best and offer consistent quality. Low end consumer service plans will not, as a rule, perform adequately. That said, the expectations of Voice over IP over Satellite need to be thoroughly discussed with professionals in advance of the buying decision to avoid disappointment as described in the story of the Alberta geologist.
