Redesigned Jeep Liberty Unveiled at the New York Auto Show

The country’s largest motor show has already opened its doors and the public is once again treated to a wide display of amazing concept vehicles and production vehicles. One of the redesigned production vehicles for the 2008 model year is the Jeep Liberty.

The mid-size sport utility vehicle was introduced back in the year 2002 and this year marks its first redesign. The upgrades in the 2008 Jeep Liberty are made to further enhance the off-road driving capability of the nimble Jeep Liberty.

The 2008 installment of the Jeep Liberty is equipped with a new independent front suspension which gives it the ability to tackle rough terrain without sacrificing the comfort of its occupants. A five-link rear suspension is also part of the enhancements made to the Jeep Liberty. Handling is also refined with the inclusion of a power rack-and-pinion steering gear. The combination of the suspension and steering system gives the Jeep Liberty one of the best off-road driving capabilities found in its class.

The 2008 model year version of the Jeep Liberty can also come with either a Selec-Trac II or a Command-Trac drive system. The Selec-Trac is a full-time four wheel drive configuration while the Command-Trac is a part-time four wheel drive system. Consumers can choose between the two for their choice of wheel drive systems which would suit their needs or driving preferences.

The power of the 2008 Jeep Liberty comes from a 3.7-liter single overhead cam V6 engine. The powerplant produces 210 units of horsepower at 5,200 revs per minute and produces torque of 235 lb-ft at 4,000 rpm. To transfer that power from the engine to the wheels, two choices of gear boxes are available. Consumers can either opt for a six-speed manual transmission or a four-speed automatic transmission. Both of which are energy efficient just like the Jeep window motors that powers the vehicle’s power windows. The smooth gear changes facilitated by either of the two transmissions improve the fuel efficiency of the vehicle.

The 2008 Jeep Liberty has an EPA gas mileage rating of 23 miles per gallon which is truly an improvement over the previous versions of the Liberty.

Aside from the changes in its performance parts, the Jeep Liberty also received improvements in its exterior and interior design. The redesigned Liberty is characterized by rugged looks found in its ancestors. One of the most notable features of the 2008 Jeep Liberty is its Sky Slide™ technology. It is essentially a canvass roof that fully opens to give that “Only in a Jeep” open air feel.

The interior of the vehicle is also upgraded to give the vehicle better versatility. Storage capacity is increased compared to the previous version of the vehicle. The seats are also improved to provide better comfort to consumers even on extended road trips.

When it comes to safety, the Jeep Liberty boasts of a lot of advanced safety features which are designed to avoid accidents or reduce dramatically the risk of sustaining severe injuries. The Jeep Liberty is equipped with an Electronic Stability Program which allows it to make tight turns without the risk of rolling over. Aside from that, the new Jeep Liberty also features Electronic Roll Mitigation, All-speed Traction Control, and Brake Assists. Standard features for the vehicle also include anti-lock braking systems, rain sensing wipers, tire pressure monitors, and a complete lineup of airbags.

The 2008 Jeep Liberty will be hitting showrooms in the United States by the third quarter of this year.

Imus and Politically Incorrect Language

The “N” word is out. The “F” word is out. “Ho” is out. “Scr..” is out. “Inte…….” is out.
“Dag.” is out. “Di..” is out. “Qu…” is out. “Spi..” is out. I could go on all night long.
Lo.. is in. Pea….. is in.

Even Ezine will not allow the use of anything questionable. So much for freedom of the press or free speech, it no longer exists!

I wrote about this last year. About 40 years ago, the Smother’s Brother’s Comedy Hour
TV Show shared a song they had written;”Chocolate.” “I fell into a vat of choc, I fell …….
And what did you do when you fell……? I yelled Fire! Why did you yell fire? Cause when
I yelled chocolate, no one came!”

George Carlin, the comic, even entertained an entire show’s audience, where he discussed the words that were/are considered nasty, offensive or synonyms for body activities.

I keep wondering…PRESUMING that courts still believe in the first amendment and also presuming that the churches of America do not represent legislation for and of language, thus, what or who are the judges of “Proper” language.

One judge was quoted, decades ago, regarding pornography “I know it when I see it”, but no one has determined absolutely what may and may not be spoken with invulnerability!

While some entities dislike this word and that word, I have my share of words I dislike;
avocado, broccoli and spinach.

Do you know that the more “Radical” an entertainer is in his/her appearance, singing or acting style, the more “Fans” that entertainer “Creates!”

The United States has included, in its reasons for going to war, the defense of language and
equality for all. Thousands of people, when they see a politician, entertainer or other person on TV, that they do not like, all do the same thing; change the channel. They do not work
energetically to stop the language or the entertainer from “Entertaining.”

When my friends wish to taunt or tease me; the Black friends call me “Whitey”, my Blind friends, call me “Sighty”, my tall friends, “Short stuff .”

I feel calling a Black women’s basketball team “Gimpy Hos” to be stupid, absurd, and colorful.
Is it intolerable? Why is calling anyone, anything, intolerable? Over the last few years,
the term “Politically incorrect” has entered the American English lexicon; how absurd!
If the constitution does state “Freedom of expression”, then politically incorrect has
no purpose existing!

While I do agree that morals and laws evolve as society needs such, I cannot figure out
how or why we need to evolve to “Nicer, cleaner” language.

Cranky Boomer Men And Male Menopause

Cranky Boomer men really do need to chill! I came across an article in the Santa Barbara Independent by Dr. Michael O.L. Seabaugh. He’s a licensed clinical psychologist in Santa Barbara. It was titled Men of an Uncertain Age and I could swear he was talking about me. Okay, maybe me and a couple of million other Boomers my age (58).

You know that old men’s saying “Can’t live with ‘em, can’t live without ‘em”? Well Dr. Michael wondered what the women who live with those men might say, “Can’t live with ‘em and can’t imagine putting up with this until he’s ninety!”.

Now, one theory is that we’re suffering from Irritable Male Syndrome. Yes, some in the medical profession really believe that men go through a form of “male menopause,” generally between the ages of 40 and 55. Okay, so I’m a little late. Or maybe, I’ve been having it since I was 40 and never realized it. One psychotherapist of 35 years claims to “have seen too many men destroy their own lives and the lives of those they love because they didn’t understand the inevitable changes that go on in a man’s body, mind, and spirit at mid-life.”

According to Jed Diamond in his book, Mid-Life Men: What Families Should Know, more than 25 million men in the U.S. are now going through male menopause and emotional symptoms that include irritability, worry, indecisiveness, and depression. Physical symptoms include fatigue, weight gain, short-term memory loss, and sleep disturbances. And there’s plenty of stuff about sex and those dysfunctions we see on television commercials. Sounds like me. I thought this is just the norm for men our age.

Now, I don’t dismiss any of this. I have another theory. We male Boomers came of age balancing the stereotypes of men passed on by our fathers and society and the new image demanded by the sixties and seventies and women who didn’t take any B.S. Somewhere along
the way, we had to or decided on our own that it was both wise and prudent to make a choice. We, along with some help from our female friends (women, girlfriends, wives, and sometimes mothers), evolved into some higher male being where we could feel lust for women, while at the same time, respecting them and championing their equality.

Now add to that volatile mixture (read, confusion) a refusal for many of us men to “act our age”. I don’t know about you, but while I’ve heard this for most of my life, I still don’t understand what it means. That’s mainly because, in my heart, I know that no one has ever been our age before, this particular way, in this time, in our place in history.

My father may have been a member of the Greatest Generation but we are the Baddest Generation. We challenged all the norms, changed history, the rules, the game, hell, we just said “no” to so many things. Don’t you remember? We were the petulant spoiled generation that wanted what we wanted when we wanted it.

So what makes you think that just because we’re getting older, we’re going to simply accept the old rules (no pun intended. okay, maybe just a little). No, we realized some time ago that there are no rules. Most of us really are making this up as we go along.

The generation of my father saw life more clearly. There was school, marriage and many kids, a job for 20, 30, maybe even 40 years and then you retired and either bored yourself to death or were lucky enough to travel the world and live high on the hog. Well, scratch that for us.

I’ve been married three times, gone through several life changes and had too many jobs to remember, been around the block more times than people have been alive and I’m just 58. Now, I’m looking for my next act, juggling ten prospective projects at once that may or may not result in a paycheck and still trying to maintain a twenty year old marriage and you want to know why I’m a proud member of Cranky Boomer Men ?

As I said earlier, Cranky Boomer Men just need to chill. We know the solutions don’t rest alone in a pill that we’ll need to take or the trip to the gym we refuse to make and the acceptance that we Cranky Boomer Men don’t need to suffer alone or in silence.

We need to stop acting like all this is the end of the world just because it seems like the end of the world. Take a deep breath and remember we’re making up the rules as we go along because there are no rules. So, if you can just make a rule that you really are in charge of your life and that you don’t have to be a Cranky Boomer Man, then that’s the rule.

Okay, it’s not that easy. But it can be. I take solace in some wisdom I found in a website called man-o-pause (www.man-o-pause.com) which bills itself as providing midlife men a place to breathe. In one entry, Dennis Gaskill, the creator and owner of BoogieJack.com, a popular webmasters resource site, elaborates on the difference between self-image, self-worth and self esteem. In his seven keys to self-worth, he waxes eloquently (visit http://www.man-o-pause.com/manopause/ for more details):

1) Self-acceptance.

2) Self-responsibility: We must own our thoughts, actions, and emotions and be responsible for them. We cannot blame our parents, family, friends or others; nor can we blame our location, education, environment, childhood, race, gender, or any other external factors for who’ve we’ve become, who we are becoming, or what we’ve done in the past. It’s accepting that no one else is responsible for your happiness and no one is here to live up to your expectations for them.

3) Self-justification: It is your right to exist. You are not here to live up to anyone else’s expectations. Your life does not belong to another. You exist, and that is the only justification you need to be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to tell you who you should be.

4) Self-reflection: Without self-reflection we cannot make personal value judgments about our behavior and character.

5) Sense of Purpose.

6) Personal Integrity.

7) Selflessness.

Nicely put. Read it, absorb it and for one moment, imagine yourself as a Cranky- less Boomer Man.

Three Chevy Minicar Concepts Unveiled

The ongoing New York International Auto Show is hosting some of the most captivating concept vehicles. The country’s largest motor show is the best place to unveil concept vehicles which are designed to be loaded with advanced features that will be integrated to production vehicles in the near future.

Car manufacturers have gathered at the event to showcase their developed concept vehicles. One of the major brands in the U.S. auto scene has even unveiled not just one but three concept minicar concepts at the said event.

Chevrolet, the most popular and the best selling marque of General Motors, has unveiled three minicar concepts at the New York International Auto Show (NYIAS). These three are the Chevrolet Beat, the Chevrolet Groove, and the Chevrolet Trax. All of these three concepts are characterized by good-looking exteriors which are designed to be coupled with a good fuel economy. These three vehicles were designed at General Motors’ design studio located in Inchon, South Korea. The said facility is known for designing small cars and has been tapped to provide a concept vehicle that may soon hit the U.S. auto market.

Ed Welburn, the Vice President of GM Global Design, has this to say during the unveiling of the three concept minicars: “The Chevrolet Beat, Groove and Trax concepts highlight the strength and diversity of GM’s Global Design capabilities, as well as the ability of our Global Product Development team to anticipate and quickly meet the evolving needs of our diverse markets around the world.” The diversity of GM’s Global Design is exhibited in the fact that while the three vehicles were designed in South Korea, the Beat was built in India while the Groove and the Trax are built in Michigan.

Welburn also emphasized on the design team’s zeal to provide fun minicars in urban centers around the world. “The design team was so enthused about being given the assignment to develop the perfect small car for urban commuters that they created not one, but three interpretations of how this car may be developed for Chevrolet customers around the world,” says Welburn.

While these vehicles have one common aim, they are being pitted against one another in a poll by Chevrolet. The car manufacturer urges consumers to vote for their favorite concept minicar at the web site www.vote4chevrolet.com. The result of the poll will help the company determine which features they will include in a future production minicar for the United States.

The Chevrolet Beat is a micro import tuner designed for fun-loving individuals. It has a front wheel drive configuration. The Beat is a three-door hatchback loaded with entertainment and technology features. It features a state-of-the-art navigation system and top of the line stereo system. The Beat is powered by a 1.2-liter turbocharged gasoline engine coupled to an automatic transmission designed to give smooth gear changes. It is also equipped with amenities found in other Chevrolet production vehicles like power windows powered by Chevy window motors.

The Chevrolet Groove on the other hand is designed to look “aggressive”, bordering on “sinister” even. Its dark finish gives the Groove concept that luxury vehicle look. Its short hood and extended cabin makes it look longer than it really is although it gives adequate interior space. Its power comes from a 1-liter diesel engine. It is one of the best choices for those who are looking for a cool looking vehicle without sacrificing fuel efficiency although interested consumers will have to wait if General Motors will indeed put the Groove into production.

The third concept minicar is the Chevy Trax and it is designed for tough driving conditions. The crossover concept is equipped with features that allow it to handle off-road terrains quite respectably. The Trax looks strong enough to tackle harsh terrains due to the fact that it employs design concepts one can find in a full size SUV like the Trax’s one-piece bumper. Just like large SUVs, the Trax concept also features a rear-mounted spare tire and a roof rack. The Trax’s power comes from a relatively small 1-liter gasoline engine.

Real Estate Marketing - Is Your Message ‘Expert Resource’ or ‘Still Have a Pulse’?

I give credit to every real estate agent who makes an effort to keep in contact with current and past clients. They understand something important, which is that regardless of how much our clients like us, life gets in the way and we can’t just assume they’ll remember to call us in 3, 5 or 7 years, when it’s time to sell that home.

(Not to mention send us their referrals along the way, which really takes front of mind presence.)

So I feel especially bad when I run into agents who understand the concept, but are spending good money on efforts that send an ineffective message. They’ve almost got it right! But they’re not benefiting from it, and usually neither are their clients.

Case in point:
I just ran into an agent who sends out postcards to her previous clients every 3 months, of the pastoral scene or seasonal/patriotic motif variety. Each one has a short inscription on the back that’s in poem form, reminding the recipients to call her for their real estate needs.

Now, I’m not saying this to be mean - and in fact, I have no right to, because I have sent out some stinkers myself.

(What rushes immediately to mind is a long-ago Thanksgiving season mailing, prepared by me, that inexplicably recounted the history of turkeys, Thanksgiving, turkey trivia and heaven knows what else. I do know I managed to throw in a quote from Benjamin Franklin, the number for a Turkey Baking Disaster Hotline, and a few other items equally strongly associated with Seattle-area real estate.)

To use a Dave Barry line, kind of makes you want to lie down on the couch and yell for someone to bring you a cold beer, doesn’t it?

Anyway, back to someone else…
The problem with the postcard example I gave is that effectively the message she’s sending is this: “Hello, still alive, and still in real estate.”

That’s fine if you combine this type of marketing with something substantial that meets your clients’ needs to maximize their real estate investments. But if this is all or most of what you do don’t be surprised if they look elsewhere when it comes time for a serious transaction.

It’s not that they don’t care about you. But consider this. What do you think is the one common denominator of nearly every real estate client, in absolutely every market?

Across the board, the number one common denominator is a shortage of time.

The less time we have, the more we are forced to concentrate our attention on items at the top of our priority heap. And items at the top of your clients’ heap will always be those that are about them, not you.

If you want your message to hit home, make it about them! Yes, they need to know you’re a good person, but that only helps them if you’re also an expert in real estate. That’s the priority message.

So find ways to show them that you know your stuff, by helping them to maximize the value, safety and enjoyment they get from their current or future homes. Good examples are market reports, remodeling trend updates, how-to tips, and home safety information.

When you provide this type of information consistently, you become your clients’ expert resource – the obvious go-to person for all of their real estate needs.

By the way, if you want to send something that’s not industry-related but still useful and about them, try looking up local events online and sending your clients a list of your top picks each month. If you send a postcard you can have the events on one side and a short housing market update on the back. (See, you’re nice and an expert!)

When you handle your marketing this way, everybody gets a good return on their investment: You, on the time and expense you put into your sending your message, and your clients on the time they spend reading it.

DaimlerChrysler AG’s Chrysler Group division, the maker of Chrysler, Dodge, and Jeep vehicles has recently reported a 5 percent decline on their March 2007 sales compared to the sales output last March 2006.

Dealers have sold 13,397 units of the Jeep Wrangler and Wrangler Unlimited in March 2007, which has significantly contributed for the overall sales of the Jeep brand. Acording to Tom LaSorda President and CEO of Chrysler Group:
“We continue to deliver on our promise to spend more time with our dealers, and make their profitability a priority. One important achievement in the month of March was that our vehicle inventory was down by more than 100,000 units compared to the previous year – in-line with the guidance we gave earlier.”

Meanwhile, for the month of April 2007, Chrysler Group is offering new marketing incentive called the With ‘National Minivan Month’. Here is what Michael Manley, Vice President, Sales and Dealer Operations of Chrysler Group has to say about the ‘National Minivan Month’:
“Combined with a competitive vehicle pricing, we will feature a no-extra-charge DVD system for our Chrysler Town & Country, Dodge Caravan and Dodge Grand Caravan minivans.”

“The Minivan Month follows a successful ‘National Truck Month’ in which our no-extra-charge HEMI engine upgrade contributed to another 15 percent gain in sales for the Dodge Ram light duty pick-up truck – following two already strong months in 2007.” he added.

Great Homemade Wedding Favors

Like many brides, you may be overwhelmed by all of money it cost to simply say “I Do”. Fortunately, there are ways to bring down the cost without substituting quality and elegance.
