A father / son team of convicted felons actually did this in the early 1990s. The Dominion of Melchizedek, a totally fictitious, sovereign nation was located on an uninhabited Stoll owned by the Republic of Marshall Islands in the Atlantic Ocean,, off the coast of Columbia, South America. Notebook computers can be incredibly convenient for anyone who needs to travel or work in multiple locations. While external hard drives and flash drives can be used to carry around a hug amount of data, being able to work on the same machine, one that’s been configured by you for your specific needs and style, is a major attraction. And with a notebook computer you can do a little work, or watch a video, surf the net, etc nearly anywhere you go. You can’t do that with an external hard drive.

Prices have dropped and performance has improved, but you are still going to have to make some compromises. Substantially more powerful and flexible desktop systems are also now available for prices that are quite a bit lower than any reasonably well configured notebook. You have to pay a premium for your notebook’s portability. Notebooks are also less comfortable to use than a desktop system, though this can be corrected with an external keyboard and a mouse - but, you won’t be carrying a full size keyboard around when you travel. Ergonomically, notebook computers are simply impossible without external devices. So you also incur a comfort penalty. And usually the notebooks keyboards are more compact and may not have all the keys you’d like. Finally, they are also normally configured differently than full size keyboards. This can affect your productivity to some extent.

A desktop system is usually pretty easy to upgrade - even to add additional devices to. It can also usually handle more memory than a notebook computer and run a more powerful processor. Notebook computers can be hard to upgrade and your options can be quite limited. They generally have just two memory slots and are limited to maximum of 1 to 2GB of RAM. Replacing the memory is probably the only upgrade that won’t require a specialized service center.

And unlike desktop systems which are relatively easy to repair, notebook computers are not only difficult to repair and require specialized, highly trained technicians, they also require specialized parts. If they are even available. I’ve built 5 or 6 computer systems for myself from scratch as well as upgrading them, adding more devices, etc. It isn’t all that difficult. But mess with my laptop? Not a chance. I’ve upgraded the memory and that’s it.

So, when a desktop system goes belly up, I’ll replace the mother board (or whatever component failed) - or start from scratch and build a better system and recycle the devices that are still useable. However, if my notebook computer develops a problem, I’ve got serious and probably expensive trouble. Almost anything that goes wrong is going to involve specialized components of one kind or another. Remember that it takes some manufacturing ingenuity combined with miniaturization to cram a reasonably capable computer into a notebook case. So if you get yourself a notebook computer, make sure there’s a service center nearby or be very clear on what you’ll need to do if problems develop. You might also want to double check the warranty and see what components are covered and for how long and if you might have pay anything for certain repairs during the warranty period. Then get an idea of what it might cost after the warranty expires.

Overall, there are quite a few penalties involved in buying, using and fixing notebook computers. Mobility, however, has turned out to be an overwhelming advantage far overshadowing the negatives for a great many people. And, by now, many can’t even imagine living and working without a notebook computer. Would I recommend you get a notebook? Only if you need the mobility, otherwise it’s not a wise use of your money. Would I give up my notebook computer? Not a chance.

Let’s go “Bargain Hunting” for foreclosure real estate, pre-foreclosed, auction, bank repossessions… these all sound irresistibly attractive and potentially profitable. Who wouldn’t want to make a quick profit of 20 to 50%? But whether a foreclosure real estate deal is going to be profitable or not depends on a list of factors.

Foreclosure is a legal procedure that the financial institution who made the loan to the property owner reclaims the property because of ongoing payment defaults. Legal action is started by the lender after 3 or more months of non payment. In the U.S. some states allow ’strict’ foreclosure so the borrower has a certain amount of time to catch up on his payments, after which if he fails to do so the title reverts back to the lender.

Also keep in mind that, in some foreclosure proceedings, borrowers have the right of redemption. This allows them a certain amount of time in which to “make good” on the loan’ and make back payments, shore up credit, etc and reclaim title of the property. This is not a good time to get involved in a foreclosure real estate proceeding.

But once the foreclosure process has completed, or at least become inevitable, and a Notice of Default has been issued you can start an action plan to acquire the property. Foreclosure auctions are the common place to bid on these properties and are sold ‘as is’. Unlike other property sales, no warranties are provided and no title insurance granted. You would have to have done the proper research on the property and know about all possible liens, mortgages etc.

If you hear about a ’short sale’ regarding a foreclosure real estate deal this means that the lender is willing to accept less money for a property than is outstanding on the loan. This is good

You can buy foreclosed properties at three different stages:
Before it goes to auction, at the auction, after the auction. The best option would be to buy direct from the owner before the auction but only if there is at least 20% equity after all debts and costs. This is because the owner’s debts become yours if you buy before the auction. The owners willingness to negotiate is not always there either.

If there’s not enough equity or the debt is just too large, or you can’t find or negotiate with the owner buy at the auction because some of the liens will be eliminated and once they are the remaining equity may be sufficient to turn this into a very profitable purchase.

Buy after the auction If the purchase price at the auction was greater than 80% of the quick resale value. (the bank would have been the high bidder at the auction). Banks will have private mortgage insurance that they can collect on to cash in on 20% in cash from the actual value of the property. So if the bank bought the property at the auction for $70,000 and it is actually worth 85,000 in the market, it can sell it to you for well under $60,000 without losing a dime.

Before you get to the auction stage you should at least have done a bit of investigative work on the property and have a professional inspection performed. The property doesn’t have to be free of every tiny defect, but you’ll want to know that the roof doesn’t need to be replaced, that the plumbing is sound, there are no serious foundation cracks, or potential for flooding, etc. Some of these can still be acceptable if you’re looking for a ‘fixer-upper’ and have the time and funds. Construct your offer accordingly.

Since spring is finally here, sort of (it snowed here in Denver on Easter day, sigh), I thought I would share one of my favorite strawberry recipes with you. It is a pretty easy recipe that does not even require any baking. Start to finish, it takes about 20 minutes. As I do at my baking site, I am going to share with you here the story behind the recipe.

Cream Cheese Strawberry Pie

Strawberries are my favorite fruit. I always have them around when they come into season in the spring. It always brings back memories of going to pick berries with my family in the summer. We would all pile in the car with buckets and ice cream pails, eager to taste fresh summer berries. We would go to one of the nearby berry farms that had acres and acres of berries. I remember it seemed so huge to me as a kid and I could not believe how many rows upon rows upon rows there were. All of us kids of course ended up eating just as many berries as we picked. There is nothing that has quite as much flavor as a strawberry fresh from the field, warm with sunshine. Makes me want to go hunt down a local berry farm so I can share that memory with my daughter!

Prepare the vanilla pudding according to the package directions. (Put the pudding mix and the milk into a bowl and whisk together for 2 minutes.) Allow it to set for 5 minutes. I usually use this time to start washing and cutting the strawberries. I typically just cut them in half for this recipe. Once the pudding has set, place the cream cheese in a medium sized bowl and mix with an electric mixer for 30 seconds at low speed. Add the pudding to the cream cheese and mix for about one minute on low speed. Put the mixture into the pie crust and put it in the refrigerator for 10 minutes. Continue washing and cutting the strawberries while the pie is in the refrigerator. Place the strawberries on top of the pie. Store any leftovers in the refrigerator.

He calls a third time to tell you that Consolidated Bread’s shares will rise. Very curious now, you repeat your observance. And, of course, once more, this mystic is proven to be correct.

How did he do it?

Simple! You were one of eighty people, whose names he’d gathered from the internet, phone book, a directory, or other list. His second call was to the remaining forty, those to whom he’d proved himself correct. By the time he calls the third time, his list is down to twenty. You were one of the remaining twenty.

The word “con,” as in con man, is derived from the word, confidence And, I think you will agree that, based upon abbreviated face-time performance only, “Stock Broker,” Ira Foghorn, has “performed,” thus generating confidence.

In today’s unreal, alternative universe, smoke and mirrors magic proliferate. In this setting it is most tempting to accept the infamous “free lunch,” Now, Ira’s suggestion that for a small up-front fee he will put you into Suckers, International, so that you, too, can share in the benefits of his omnipotence, sounds enticing indeed.
(After all, lunch is always free, isn’t it.)

If you bite, any further conversations with this flim-flam man will only get you a reaction akin to the fast-talking physician checking his watch as he mentally consigns you to his scrap heap of victims. To him, the surgery on your wallet is over. Successfully. Now it’s time to brush you off, and get on to the next “mark.”

Finding the right person to share your life with is like searching the ocean floor until you find a clam that shelters a priceless pearl. It is so prefect that you take it to a jeweler and you place it in a beautiful ring setting so you can show it off to everyone you know. Every time you glance down at the pearl you are inspired by its brilliance and it inflames your heart with love.

This is the reason that it hurts so much when you are betrayed by love. It was as if the pearl that was so valuable fell out of it’s setting and was lost to you forever. But it was worse than that for me, because I was not lost. The person I loved just discarded me, she cut me off without a word and left me bewildered as to why. I believe one reason she tossed me aside was because our relationship would have caused a change that her family would not have liked.

She confided to me that her son forbid her to ever have anything to do with me! I was surprised, but I just brushed it off believing that her son would eventually get used to us being together. It is true I had no relationship with him after we parted, but it was her decision to cut him off from me.

We had previously spent seventeen years together and I had been her son’s other parent from the age of four. I still loved him and I still thought of him as my child. I always prayed for him and his own young son, just like my own three children, whether his mother and I were together or not.

I really didn’t understand why her family was a problem. When we were together there never was a good relationship with her father or her grandparents. So why would this time be any different.

Things were totally opposite with my own children. They were very open to the possibility of us getting back together. They all stated emphatically that they wanted me to be happy and they would accept any decision I made. Even though they knew it would mean I wouldn’t have as much time for them.

I listened to everything she had to say about how hard her coming back to me would be. I once again asked her if she was sure and she said that she was. I believed she truly was done with her current relationship and that in time her family would accept us being together.

Love shared with another person is the most valuable thing a person can have to sustain life. When love is in place then you feel secure and safe, because you know the other person has your back.

True love makes you willing to give up your life for the other person. You happily make sacrifices because the love you feel is worth more than all the money in the world.

It was an easy thing for me to not even question that she was using me for money. I believed her when she said she was behind on her bills and she needed money for food. I believed her when she said she loved me and that she and I would be together again soon.

True love is the reason why couples can face all forms of disasters. Love gives them the strength to stand by their children when they are addicted to drugs or alcohol. Love gives them the ability to face the loss of a child or to handle the affects of a natural disaster that takes everything they own. Love makes a couple strong!

This is the reason people say it is better to love than to never have loved. Human love is wonderful, but real love is to understand that when it fails, God’s love is everlasting!

I accepted Jesus Christ as my Savior when I was seven years old. I didn’t understand what an important decision that was for me until I began to experience all the pain the world can throw at a person. I didn’t understand how much I would need Jesus to be my Savior!

I didn’t understand how much I needed a God that had supernatural powers. I only began to understand how much I needed a Savior when my world came crashing down around me.

My human weaknesses wanted me to give up and believe that I had no hope! My inability to hold onto love made me want to quit life and cut myself off from all human beings. I wanted to protect myself from ever being hurt again and death seemed like a wonderful option.

This is when I needed a Savior! This is when I needed Jesus Christ to give me the strength to take one day at a time. This is when I believed that I could have a future that is better than the betrayal I found from the person I loved.

Falling back onto my faith in God I sought Him to explain why I had to suffer for love. I believed that God was giving her back to me. Yet here I was alone.

When Adam and Eve ate the apple, they changed our world. Their desire to be like God brought all mankind to the valley of decision. A decision where we would be presented with choices. The Bible describes these choices as tests. The ultimate goal of the test is to get us to understand the difference between good and evil. Differences that would lead us to understand why love is God, while hate is Satan. God also refers to this as overcoming sin. This is illustrated in the example given to us when Cain kills his brother Abel.

Genesis 4: 6&7, “Then the Lord said to Cain, ‘Why are you angry? Why that scowl on your face? If you had done the right thing, you would be smiling; but because you have done evil, sin is crouching at your door. It wants to rule you, but you must overcome it.’”

The illustration of Cain and Abel shows us how freewill works in our lives. Our own will determines which path we take. One path leads to the reward of Heaven and unconditional love and the other to losing our game of life to evil and being destroyed by the tests we face.

This is the reason why those who don’t have the saving power of Jesus Christ, commit suicide or get lost in a drug addiction. They can’t stand up to the betrayals of life, so they give up. This is the reason why people commit crimes against each other by taking money under false pretenses. They do this because they choose to take care of themselves and they don’t think of how it hurts another person.

Being betrayed by love doesn’t make your heart stop loving the person. You still love and knowing how the game of life works makes you look at the betrayal differently. You are afraid for the person who caused you harm. Because you know that what she did to you was wrong.

When Jesus walked the earth He brought an entirely different message. His words changed how people reacted to those who hurt them. These words brought a kinder and gentler way of handling the problems we will face in the world with love.

Mark 12:31a, “The second most important commandment is this: ‘Love your neighbor as you love yourself.’”

John 15: 12&13, “My commandment is this; love one another, just as I love you. The greatest love a person can have for his friends is to give his life for them.”

Matthew 6:14&15, “If you forgive others the wrongs they have done to you, your Father in heaven will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive others, then your Father will not forgive the wrongs you have done.”

We are to love regardless of what happens to us. We are to forgive because when we harbor the grief we feel, then it can pull us down and make us hate. And hate is the opposite of love. To hate is to sin and that makes us just as susceptible to evil as the person who hurt us.

Matthew 6: 24, “No one can be a slave of two masters; he will hate one and love the other; he will be loyal to one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.”

When she took money from me, I truly believed that she did have real financial needs. I do not love money, I use money to live and to help others.

I tell the story of my betrayal not to get back at the person who did this to me, because I will always love her. Rather I tell it so the betrayals that you suffer will lead you to forgive and move on with your life.

Jesus Christ is the Savior of the world and He will help you to let go of the pain. Letting go allows God to help you heal. Having faith in a supernatural God helps give you strength and helps you to endure no matter what happens to you in the greatest game ever played, the game of life.

Worry according to wikipedia refers to negative self-talk that often distracts the mind from focusing on the problem at hand. Why is it that so many people allow themselves to be affected by worrying? Worrying can destroy a person’s life if he or she do not take control. Do you know that worrying can be eliminated. Yes it can. The secret to eliminating worry can be found:

1) In the Bible. The Bible says we should be careful about nothing but through prayer and supplication we should make our request be known to him. It is simple that is if you know God and you can talk to him through prayer. That is how I overcome my worries. When I see people who know God worrying their mind out I wander if they read their Bible. Because it is simply stated as above do not worry about anything but pray and believe.

2) The old I grow the more I realize that most of the things we worry about do not or will not happen. Think of some of your past worries. Did they happen or you were just worrying for nothing. If you realize that whatever you are worrying about will not happen then you are one step ahead of your worrying problem.

3) To conquer your worries, determine the worst outcome of the situation you are worrying about and accept it if it happens. Once you have determined the worst outcome of the particular situation you are worrying about, it makes a whole lot easier to face it if it happens.

Combining all of these three keys, your worrying has no chance. No matter what form it comes you can combat your negative self talk with positive ones and transfer all the worrying to God through prayer. Believe that He is able to do what He has promise. Then finally come face to face with the final result and face it with God’s help if it happens. But most of the time it will not happen anyway.
