Juggling Kids, Career, Marriage And Personal Time?

Have you ever been fascinated by certain people and wanted to truly understand what motivates them, what scares them and what keeps them up at night?

Over the last couple of years, I’ve noticed that working mothers come to coaching looking for solutions to very specific challenges, not the least of which is balancing work and family. The more I coach working mothers, the more passionate I’ve become about helping them with their challenges. So, I decided to conduct in-depth interviews with 25 executive mothers to understand their deepest, darkest worries so I could develop coaching programs to help them effect change in their personal and professional lives.

The survey revealed that executive mothers cite guilt as their number one challenge. Guilt that they have to leave their kids to go to work, guilt that going to work sometimes feels like a welcome break from their kids and guilt that they have to leave work early to pick up their kids from daycare.

Following are additional survey results of 25 working mothers in senior-level management positions across the U.S.

Top Challenges for Working Mothers:

- 91% feel they’re struggling to juggle kids, career, marriage, and personal time

- 87% feel that if they just had more time, they could get it all done

- 82% report that running from commitment to commitment and lack of sleep take a toll on their personal time, health and well-being

- 77% are struggling to lose those last 10-20 pounds post-pregnancy

- 73% feel they are playing a constant balancing act in which something always has to give

- 71% feel guilty, stressed and exhausted

Top Resources for Working Mothers:

- 89% have read parenting books, magazines or websites

- 78% have tried mom’s groups

- 46% have tried parenting classes or workshops

- 82% said they received some benefits from these resources but were unable to make lasting change

Does this sound like you? While the study focused on working mothers, I’m sure working fathers face many of the same challenges.

So, what can you do about it?

One thing that was consistent for the dynamic group of women I interviewed is that they recognize the value of constantly re-evaluating, re-prioritizing and re-connecting with what’s most important for them that day, week, or year. They understand the need to take a step back, get perspective and re-calibrate their priorities both as new situations come up and as they go about their daily routine.

You may find that there are some times in your life when you need to focus on making money, some times when spending time with your family has to be the priority and some times when you just need to carve out a little bit of alone time. The trick is to get enough perspective so that you feel you are intentionally making choices instead of having life “happen” to you, completely out of your control.

So, the next time you’re feeling guilty, stressed or overwhelmed, take five minutes to go outside, look up at the sky and ask yourself, “What’s the big picture perspective?”

An Increasing Need for Nurses

Introduction

Health care is always a platform for a political agenda, but with the 2008 presidential campaign not so far away, the concern and conversation relating to the alarming number of Americans without health coverage is rising. It is speculated that there are around 47 million Americans uninsured.

“Pursue the nearest duty.”

A Solution?

Bush seeks to provide a remedy by focusing on two angles: making coverage more available by reforming the tax code and to provide federal funding to states with an abundance of low-income and hard-to-insure residents. The former plan would involve a standard deduction in taxes for those purchasing insurance on their own or through their workplace. The latter plan would seek to deliver basic, affordable private health insurance to applicable residents.

Bush intends for the two solutions to stymie the reliance on government-run health care. Bush hopes that his plan will foster the opportunity for Americans to be more in control of their medical decisions. Critics of Bush’s plan say that the lower income population would not benefit from this plan because they will still not be likely to afford the premiums even if they do have a plan. Another vociferation is that the plan might force employers to lower or drop benefits in parts of the country where premiums are the highest and in small business sectors.

Congressional Implementation

Congress will also attempt to peer into the health care problem. The federal government will address many nursing specific bills in the near future:

– The Nursing School Capacity Act of 2007 will allow research to focus on the constraints encountered by schools of nursing in relation to admitting and graduating nurses sufficient in meeting the pressing health care needs of Americans, assess if entry-level graduates are pleased with their schooling preparation, and evaluate salary and benefit structures within the field.

–The Nurse Education, Expansion, and Development Act of 2007would give nursing schools funds to add to their faculty, maintain facilities, purchase equipment, and recruit students. This bill would provide over $255 million over the period of three years.

–The Medicaid Advanced Practice Nurses and Physician Assistants Access Act of 2007, seeks to expand access under the Medicaid fee-for-service program. Currently, pediatric nurse practitioners and family nurse practitioners qualify, but the bill seeks to include all nurse practitioners, CNSs, and physician assistants as primary care providers.

“Duty is the most sublime word in our language. Do your duty in all things… You cannot do more. You should never wish to do less.”

Calling All Nurses

Those engrossed on the topics say that there is no better group to speak on these issues than RNs. It is projected that the nursing shortage will increase to add to the need of more than 1 million nurses by the year 2020. By 2015, all 50 states will experience a shortage of nurses.

K-Mart Bottled Water - Really That Good?

K-Mart bottled water is said to be great, but is it? In early 2005, John Stossel of ABC News did a special report on bottled water. Stossel and his team talked to people about why they choose bottled water over tap water. Most said, of course, they chose bottled water because they consider it safer. Some chose bottled water because it tasted better.

K-Mart bottled water entered the report when Stossel and his team ran a taste test. K-Mart bottled water, the discount brand American Fare, was pitted against New York City tap water and 4 better known, brand-name bottled waters.

Many of the people who participated regularly rejected tap water for bottled water. They were sure they could tell the difference in taste.

What Happened

1. One of the five waters was termed particularly bad by many participants. It was not New York City tap water, though. It was bottled water. In fact, it was Evian, an expensive French bottled water.

2. One of the five waters tasted was judged better than the other four. It was not the better known brands, though. It was not New York City tap water either. It was K-Mart bottled water.

These five water samples, four of them bottled water, all tested as equally healthy. When it came to taste, K-Mart bottled water beat the other four.

American Fare

K-Mart bottled water is, as mentioned above, the discount brand labeled as American Fare. That tells us little, but since it is a private label, it is difficult to find information about American Fare bottled water.

In mid-March of 2007, K-Mart expanded its American Fare line of beverages. The bottled water did so well that it is adding products such as vitamin water, bottled green iced tea, energy drinks, fruit-flavored water, and juice pouches.

If you search long enough and far enough, you will learn that American Fare bottled water is produced for K-Mart by “Famous Ramona Water, Inc.” in Ramona, California. Once you have learned this, you can inquire into the quality of American Fare bottled water.

What’s in K-Mart Bottled Water?

Famous Ramona Water, Inc. is one of 20 member companies of the International Bottled Water Association (IBWA) that add fluoride to their bottled water. The practice of adding fluoride to water is good, right? It has been added to U.S. tap water for more than 60 years.

Fluoride Can Be Toxic

A growing number of reports indicate that fluoride in drinking water can be toxic, especially to children.

While proponents of fluoridation assert that there is no legitimate scientific controversy over either the benefits or safety of adding fluoridation to water, records show that there had been clear scientific controversy from the outset. There continues to be scientific controversy to this day.

Reading just a few of the many facts available on the Internet shows the honest reader that there are real dangers involved in adding fluoride to bottled water.

1. Dental fluorosis is pandemic in areas where fluoride has been added to tap water. This condition is defined as: “an abnormal condition (as mottling of the teeth) caused by fluorine or its compounds.”

2. Dental fluorosis is recognized globally by scientists to be the first clinical sign of fluoride poisoning.

3. Other countries besides those in North America have documented staggering health problems as a result of adding fluoride to drinking water.

4. Approximately twenty nations show health problems that are clearly traceable to the ingestion of fluoride such as is being added to bottled water.

5. Nearly two years ago, as of the writing of this in April 2007, 11 EPA employee unions asked for a moratorium on fluoridated drinking water. These 11 employee unions asked the EPA to recognize the cancer risks associated with adding fluoride to tap water and bottled water.

Conclusion

The teeth are said to be a mirror of what is happening to the bones of the human body. I am not a scientist, but the pictures I have seen of dental fluorosis are frightening enough to make me choose water without fluoride. The scientific facts regarding fluoride that abound on the Internet are frightening enough to make me avoid bottled water that has been fluoridated.

K-Mart bottled water may be among the least expensive, but one must question whether it is even worth the low price asked when it floods the body with fluoride, a substance that is causing growing concern.

If you care about what is in your bottled water, you may want to research the effects of fluoride.

Money Out of E-mail Marketing

So how can e-mail marketing generate income to an individual?

Penetrating e-mail marketing requires not much from you. It actually entails very simple things: have patience, motivate yourself to work to the fullest and a few simple tips to bring onto your pocket and voila! You are all set!

To ensure that you get what you want you have to have a powerful material to equate your goal. Since the e-mail marketing requires that one should develop an e-mail to be sent out to potentially large market, then it is a must that the e-mail material is written at its best. Remember that your objective is to attract prospective consumers and catch their attention to at least consider buying or patronizing your product. Apparently, the medium that you have handicaps you from verbally catching the consumer, then it is just but right to put out the best e-mail material campaign. The e-mail leaves all the impression without you knowing it. Only when you are able to capture that market can you say that you have been successful in marketing the product. So, the rule is, give the best content you can think of in the e-mail!

Now, you have completed your campaign material. The next question is: Do I have a database of potential market?

The Internet in itself is the primary source of this. But maximizing it is another question. Of course, you can always refer to having someone else’s address book, as a source of your database, but you can never have the address book of other potentially opened-up for you. Also, not discounting the fact that with this method, the probability of getting undeliverable or mailer-daemon message return is at a high percentage.

If you want to maximize your capacity, you can indulge into purchasing some programs from the net where it can give you the number of databases that you want — even more, you can have millions of address lists in just a snap. With millions of address lists, are you not ensured of an income even when just a portion of this returns back to your advertisement?

Hollywood Gets Inspired By…

For years, attempts were made to depict God, faith, and spirituality in film and television without sweeping success. Other than dated films, Mel Gibson’s Passion of the Christ, and Dan Brown’s Davinci Code, faith based productions were received best on stage.

While it is a common challenge for “Tinseltown” to express God in a way that most people believe he exists, Hollywood recently got inspired by, The Bible Experience.

“This isn’t just a project,” says Grammy-winning music producer, Louis “Buster” Brown. “This has taken on all the characteristics of a movement,” Brown said.

The Bible Experience is a dramatized audio recording of the Bible set to song, sound effects, and music. Unlike prior audio or visual productions of Bible stories, The Bible Experience is likened to “a drama played out in [the] mind.” The project’s media producer and technology expert, Ron Belk, says this is because “it paints a picture of what you hear and see”.

Developed and produced by Inspired By Media Group–a company comprised of highly regarded award-winning television, film, and music veterans–the purpose of The Bible Experience is aligned with the company’s vision to “[produce] creative and culturally relevant products for the faith based and family markets.”

The first of its kind, The Bible Experience is published and distributed by Zondervan. Last fall, the New Testament, was released on CD. Upon completion of the Old Testament later this year, production will begin on a Spanish Bible Experience. In order to retain its effect, the Spanish version will have the same “DNA,” in terms of format, casting, music, and production. Product hybrids will also be made for the elderly and the hearing impaired.

A movement indeed, the project has already transformed the future of faith-based entertainment. Among a number of branding initiatives, The Bible Experience will expand to include ring tones, animation as well as formats for MP3s and iPods.

Many Were Called

In addition to being enlightening and engaging, The Bible Experience is proof that God, faith, and spirituality is an experience. Breathing life into even the dullest Bible stories was an exceptionally talented cast. “Everyone who’s become involved in this project is God’s tool. And, we have taken these tools–whether they are dull [or] sharp and we’re using the tools to accomplish God’s will,” Belk said.

Casting director, Robi Reed, had no problem filling voiceover roles for the 70-hour project. In fact, 98 of the first 100 prospects either signed on to assist when asked or volunteered. Since then, the cast list has grown to more than 300.

Comprised of stage and screen actors, athletes, pastors, personalities, and recording artists, The Bible Experience was recorded by an all black cast. Blair Underwood who plays Jesus, Angela Bassett (Esther), Cuba Gooding Jr. (Judas), and Denzel Washington, who reads the Songs of Solomon with wife, Pauletta added to the “star wattage”. The main character, God, took a while to place. A lot of recording hours meant that God had to be the right fit. Eventually, Samuel L. Jackson was selected to fill that role.

Why an all black cast? According to Belk, there are few opportunities for blacks to have a voice. “The Bible Experience is an offering of our God experience,” Belk said. Remarkably, and unlike similar efforts, the final product has little to no sign of color because the voices are “accent-free.” As such, The Bible Experience can appeal to anyone of faith particularly those in the 18 to 34 demographic. In fact, Belk adds, “With the recent resurgence of faith based entertainment and its appeal to both urban and mainstream audiences, this project serves as a cultural bridge connecting people of all races and ethnicities.”

More than a captivating audio performance, The Bible Experience amounts to a “timeless memorial of God’s word.” “Whether you believe the doctrine or not, you cannot deny the impact that the life of this man, Jesus, had on everyday life,” Underwood advised.

Former The View talk show host, Star Jones Reynolds describes the experience best: “When you participate in a project that is inspired simply by God; to have the privilege and the honor to sit before His Majesty and do His will–that’s when you know why you’re here.”

Wedding Plans - Date, Guests, Important Players

The first thing that a couple should decide upon, of course, is the date of the most important event of their lives. Choosing a date that is meaningful to the couple would be a perfect choice. It’s also important to choose a perfect date especially if the couple wants to get married outside the church so that the condition of the weather won’t be a hindrance to the celebration. This can take some thought as the weather in some parts is not always predictable! Don’t forget that the date should also be a suitable one for many of your guests as well.

If the date is set, the number of guests must be considered next since other factors regarding the celebration will greatly depend upon the number of guests that the couple will be having. If you don’t want too much of a crowd on your wedding, then invite only those who are closest to you, that is, your family and close friends. Make a list of all the people you know before writing invitation letters to make sure that no one is missed out. When this is done, start planning for your reception.

The reception is the celebration of the marriage. It’s a time of bonding and strengthening of relationships between families. It’s a time for sharing. Choose a venue that can accommodate all the guests and at the same time provide space for chatting and dancing. Memories will be made here - you want them to be good ones.

You also need to choose the people that would take part in the holy matrimony celebration itself. The couple should decide upon and both agree with the people who will take part who should be the bridemaid, maid of honor, the groom’s men and others. When all of it has been planned and decided, it is always nice to have a marriage rehearsal so that each one will know what their task is and what to do on the special day and avoid any untoward or funny incidents.

By carefully planning and organizing, you can ensure that your wedding will be trouble-free and run smoothly.

Eric Hartwell oversees “The World’s Best Homepage” intended to be a user-generated resource where YOUR opinion counts. Anybody can contribute and all are welcomed. Visit us to read, comment upon or share opinions on weddings and wedding plans and visit our associated site articles for free.

Fig Leaves For The Catholic Faithful

I can recall sitting in Catholic Church as a boy. I had always wondered why it was that, at Communion time, some people remained seated or kneeling in a very prayerful, pious position while others shuffled forward to receive the bread and wine. As time went on, and the length of time between my confessions grew too long (in my own opinion) and the types of sins I was capable of committing grew “worse” (again, in my own opinion), I found that, I, too, would refrain from taking communion because, in my own opinion, I was simply unworthy.

Unworthy? As time went by, the Lord has allowed me my share of ministry opportunities to Catholics. Here are a few examples:

CASE #1: I met a pretty Catholic woman in her 40s who told me she hadn’t taken communion in 10 years. Why? Because she had been divorced and felt unworthy.

CASE #2: Another Catholic woman, a single mom, confessed to me that she was not only not skipping communion, but was feeling unworthy of even entering the doors of the church. Why? She, too, had been divorced.

CASE #3: At a Coffee Shop Bible Study, a young Baptist college student introduced me to a friend, a lovely Catholic girl he’d met at school. She was very vocal during the Bible Study, anxious to read the verses and had much to add to the discussion. Afterward, she asked me to pray for her. She wanted to become a nun, she said, but she had this strong desire to raise children, too.

CASE #4: A Catholic woman had become pregnant as a teen girl and gave the baby up for adoption. She later married another man and was unable to bear children. She wondered if she wasn’t being punished for her past sin.

CASE #5: A devout Catholic man had an affair many years ago. In repentance, he poured himself into his religious practices becoming downright professional; a dedicated model of the perfect Catholic man. By outward appearances a pillar of faith; inwardly, like Samson, he was in bondage to those pillars.

WHO SAID YOU WERE NAKED?

Across denominational lines, the Church has declared to all people that they are separated from God, that they are guilty and that He’s angry at them. We go so far as to preach that, unless they attend church on our prescribed day, at the prescribed time in our particular denomination, that they remain separated from Him. Heaven forbid that anyone in attendance should sin - at least sin in such a way that others might notice (pregnancy out of wedlock, divorce, you know…one of the “biggies). Those types will be brow-beaten and “scarlet lettered” from now till Doomsday, as they say.

Do you recall what God said to Adam after he and the wife ate off the tree? God saw that they had covered themselves with fig leaves and, when Adam said they covered themselves because they were naked, God responded, “Who told you that you were naked?”

We must answer that same basic question: “Who told you that you sinned?”

Our answers might include:

“My pastor.”

“The Church.”

“My parents.”

How about “The devil”? You see there is NO CONDEMNATION for those who are in Christ (Rom 8:1). There are two voices in Heaven, we read; Jesus who makes intercession for the Saints (that’s you and me actually, not dead Christians - LIVE ones), and Satan, who accuses “the brethren” (and sisteren) incessantly.

Just as Noah’s sons walked in backward and covered his nude body when he collapsed from drunkenness, after having attention called to him by the other son, Jesus, too, covers our nakedness.

Do you recall reading where He told the sinful prostitute, “You tramp! you’re going to Hell!” No, because He never did that. How about where He told that obese man that there was obviously sin in his life or he would be thinner and subsequently happier and have a higher paying job and date more often? No, not hardly. His usual response was along the lines of “go and sin no more.” If anything, He repeatedly told those to whom He ministered, “Don’t tell anyone,” and they ran off and told EVERYONE.

To the woman “caught” in adultery (wasn’t the MAN caught, too?), Jesus said, “Woman, where are your accusers? Has no one condemned you?” She said, “No man, Lord.” And Jesus said unto her, “Neither do I condemn you: go, and sin no more.” (John 8:10-12)

To the paralytic in Mark 2:5, He said simply, “Son, your sins are forgiven.”

When some guys lowered their friend through a hole they made in the roof so that Jesus might see fit to heal him, Jesus was impressed. Luke 5:20 tells us, “When Jesus saw their faith, He said, “Friend, your sins are forgiven.”

While dining at Simon’s with a group of Pharisees, Luke 7:36-49 reveals how a “sinful” woman came in with a jar of perfume. She stood behind Jesus at his feet weeping, and began to wet his feet with her tears. Then she wiped them with her hair, kissed them and poured perfume on them. Verse 44 says, “Then He turned toward the woman and said to Simon, “Do you see this woman? I came into your house. You did not give me any water for my feet, but she wet my feet with her tears and wiped them with her hair. You did not give me a kiss, but this woman, from the time I entered, has not stopped kissing my feet. You did not put oil on my head, but she has poured perfume on my feet. Therefore, I tell you, her many sins have been forgiven-for she loved much. But he who has been forgiven little loves little.”

Then Jesus said to her, “Your sins are forgiven.”

Hebrew 10:18-19 reminds us, “Their sins and lawless acts I will remember no more. “And where these have been forgiven, there is no longer any sacrifice for sin.” Did you notice: no hoops to jump through; no performances necessary; no obligations. Just faith.

Unworthy? Not on your life! Don’t believe the lie of the enemy that anything you ever did has re-qualified you as unworthy. I am convinced that NOTHING is able to separate us from the love of God (Rom 8:38-39). Friends, there are NO V.I.P. Sinners! To wallow in guilt and cling to thoughts and feelings of unworthiness is to tearfully declare, “Thanks for the crucifixion, Jesus, but it JUST WASN’T GOOD ENOUGH for me!”

THE RESULTS?

Regarding those five cases mentioned above, in every instance, I shared what you have just read.

In Case #1, the woman rejoiced, smiled tearfully and assured me that she understood. I believe with all my heart that she resumed the practices of her faith.

In Case #2, I had actually driven 4 hours to teach a Bible Study that never happened once I arrived. This woman had asked me to come to her office so that we could speak. After sharing with her something similar to what you’ve just read, she exclaimed, “I know you drove a long way to get here, but if the only thing you accomplished was telling me what you just said, IT WAS WORTH IT!” She has since become engaged, I’ve been told, to a Baptist boyfriend from her youth.

In Case #3, after the young lady told me she wanted to be a nun but also loved children, I assured her that, if that was indeed her calling, a nun can love children, too. As a Catholic boy, several nuns had quite an impact on my life; they loved children and it showed. I remember them fondly. She’s married now.

In Case #4, that woman now understands that God doesn’t punish His family. He loves her and has a plan for her life. She is serving the Lord with gladness and has been re-acquainted with her child.

In Case #5, we can only believe that God will minister the truth to this individual and that he will receive God’s grace (Eph 2:8,9), step out of his performance mode and experience the liberty that has been bought for him by the blood of the cross. Does that sound like YOU, or anyone you know?

Though you may not be a Catholic, trust me, the devil has no problem condemning non-Catholics of their past mistakes and current bondages as well.

How many sins had you committed 2,000 years ago, after the crucifixion? None.

So, if your sins were forgiven, for how long did that “offer” stand? For 150 years? For 1,233 years? How about 3,000 years? You see, everything you’ve ever done - or will ever do - was either forgiven 100% by the shed Blood of the Lamb of God, who TOOK AWAY the sins of the world…or it wasn’t. That doesn’t give us a license to be evil. We will reap as we sow, after all. But we can rest in the hope that God’s mercy REALLY is new every morning.

We REALLY have been justified.

God REALLY does see Jesus when He looks at us for we are the righteousness of God in Christ.

Our debt REALLY has been paid.

Now, is there anyone YOU need to forgive?

Every blessing,

Michael Tummillo

A servant of God
